His class is pretty clear. He explains his material thoroughly and enjoys teaching the class. He's funny and doesn't give hw assignments. He gives extra credit opportunities for every test, and his tests are completely fill in the blank. NO SHORT ESSAY questions. Highly recommend Dr. Camper.
This instructor is absolutely terrible. All he does is lecture, which is not how I learn. The history department needs to understand that students no longer learn by this outdated system. We need active learning projects not taking notes and having exams/quizzes. He is boring and can not teach the material well at all. Take someone else.
Mr. Camper is an extremely good teacher and I would recommend him to anyone for modern US history. He gives 4 fill in the blank exams with identification and an essay. He tells you the exact essay you will see on the exam and he hosts a review before each test. Attendence is also 20% of your grade. His lectures are clear and interesting.
I LOVED this professor! He was so nice during class and outside of class! He really respected us as college students. You must pay attention in class and take good notes. Reasonable test and quizzes! I would advise him if you want a laid back history class.
A very good teacher! He highlighted all the important terms on his powerpoint slides and he told us what essay we would see on the exams. His reading quizzes were kinda hard, but he dropped the lowest quiz grade. Mr. Camper's lectures were the only thing I wasn't used to. He gives very formal and imformation packed lectures.took 8-10 pages of notes
Mr Camper is a very nice man and will help you study if you ask but he is very demanding when it comes to earning a good grade. I made a 12 on my first test and he would not replace it. He just said you will have to do well on your other tests. Mr. C helped me study during his office hours. Take notes, study,go to him for help,& you should do fine
If you fail this professor's class then you don't belong in college. He is crystal clear in his lectures, which he makes into a story and he tells you ALL the important terms you need to know for the exam. Dr. Camper also holds a review for the exam. He is very approachable and kindhearted. If you want an enjoyable class and an easy A take him!
Dr. Camper is an amazing professor. He keeps you interested the entire semester. If you don't like history going into his class, I gaurntee you'll like it at the end. Overall great man.
I really enjoyed Mr. Camper's class and I don't really care for history that much. He is helpful in an outside of class. Tests are reasonable and the extra credit is nice. I really want to give him a hug because he seems lonely
His jokes fall flat, however, this man is really good at explaining history and just can tell he enjoys teaching the subject. He approaches the class at a basic level and his tests are not tricky at all. attend class, take notes, ask questions, and you should make an easy A. I am a C student and I have an A.
I had him for 201 and 202. I highly recommend Camper as a professor. Attendance is mandatory because his tests come directly from the notes. He also gives out a list of terms that will be on the test. If you take notes on those specific terms, you will definitely make A's on the test. Take him if he's available!!
Prof. Camper is an excellent history teacher & the sweetest prof. I've had at UTM. His class isn'teasy but you can easily make an A or B if you study. His tests are fill in the blank so study the ID sheets and read the textbook for his extra credit quizzes before the exams. Finally, DO NOT TEXT IN HIS CLASS or he will kick you out of class.
Camper is a nice guy, but far too easy. Without reading the textbook you can score decently on the EC quizzes (which he said he plans to drop) and the exams are purely lecture. He tells you exactly what to study, so an A on the tests is easy. On the downside, his history is rather lacking if you really know and understand the subject.
Dr. Camper is the best history professor I have ever had, but he's super cheesy. Very easy tests but you have to study. Attend class, take notes, and study the ID terms and its an easy A.
Very nice. As long as you study the terms its easy.
A very nice guy and a pretty good class. Take notes, read, study and you should do fine.
You will definately learn alot in JC's class, but you need to be prepared to study from day one. He is helpful if you stop by his office and aske questions. Write as much as you can on his exams because he expects completeness in the answers. If you want to learn about US history then take this professor. If you want a joke class takesome else.
Reading quizzes every 2 weeks (a LOT of reading I might add.) HIs study guides can be misleading and T/F, fill in blank, and 13 essay questions on tests. He likes to make jokes in class and tells stories to make the history better to understand. To get even a B you will have to study though. Wouldn't recommend him.
Great guy but difficult professor. His test consist of short answer and essay questions. If you take this guy be prepared to study every night for this class! We started with 65 students and ended up with 30 at end of the semester after drop date. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR PERIOD!
Do NOT take him. He makes lectures easy to follow and interesting, but when you get to the test you realize that 90% of the test is stuff he barely went over or not at all! Reading quizzes every 2 weeks. He assigns quite a bit a reading. If you do end up taking him then good luck b/c no one made an A on the first test out of all 4 of his classes!
First, Camper is an excellent prof. if you want to learn US history TAKE HIM. Second, no he is not easy. All the complainers were frats who wanted their grades given to them. He hold you accountable for your grade so read the book & study the notes. His lecture are crystal clear & his tests come from the lectures. Go to him for help & he will help
This is by far the most ridiculous class and professor I have had at utm. His tests consist of 10 true/ false, 10 fill in the blank (no word bank) and 15 essays. You also have reading quizzes which count for a large percentage of your grade and those require reading about 10 long articles out of the textbook. DO NOT TAKE CAMPER!!!
You have to STUDY to do well, but it is not impossible. I failed the first exam and went to Mr. Camper for help thereafter. He was more than willing to help me study and we held review sessions. I made high Bs on the next exams. Don't be afraid to go to him for help. Read and study and you should do fine in the class.
Mr Camper is a great teacher and he really likes for people to work hard and ask questions. Come to class, don't text or sleep, ask questions, take notes, and be as complete as you can on his short answer questions and you should have no problem pulling at least a B out in the class. He is approachable outside of class too.
Mr. Camper is FANTASTIC!!! His exams are fill in the blank so write down EVERY terms he writes on the board because those are the items you need to study for the tests. He also give 3 reading quizzes and drops the lowest quiz grade. Mr Camper doesn't mind answering questions during class or before/after class. I liked him ALOT!.
I took Camper for 201 and 202. No matter how the test is set up, as long as you go to class, take thorough notes, and participate, you should make it out with an A. He wants you to succeed, but you must EARN YOUR GRADE. He doesn't do hand-outs, he respects hard work. He's always available to answer questions, and he's just an all-around great dude.
Mr. Camper is by far the best history professor at UTM. He is always there for his students, and if you participate in class you will really learn a lot from him. He cracks a lot of jokes that are corny, but laugh anyway. He really made history fun for me. Great professor! You need to study for his tests, though. Can't expect to pass without that!
I really don't like this professor because all he does is lecture and it is soooo boring. Where is the group work? Where is the homework assignments to improve your test scores? Where are the videos? My high school teacher did all these things and made history so interesting. Not Camper. Avoid him if you can
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOORRRRRIIING! He just keeps going on and on and on about history day in and day out. It gets old quickly. He doesn't diversify how he teaches. He just does the same old thing over and over again. UGH!
Not too bad! Very clear on powerpoints. But be prepared to write a lot of notes. His tests are difficult, he puts a lot into each test. STUDY. Also, try your best not to skip or you'll be lost on tests. Other than that, he is a very nice professor and I would take him again.
Dr. Camper is awesome! Took him online and as long as you listen to the lectures and take good notes, you will do fine. He is always there if you need help and is super nice. Do your lectures before your quizzes-- a lot of the questions come from the lectures and not your readings. Tests are hard, but if you study your notes, you will do fine.
I took Mr. Camper for the online history class and he was wonderful. I highly recommend him to students who want to learn US history from a non biased perspective. His exams require extensive preparation for but they come directly from the lectures. If you put the prep time in you will do fine. If you have questions, Mr. Camper always replied.
He is a pretty good professor. He is pretty non biased when it comes to lectures and he gives good advice on the writing assignments. I would highly recommend his class.
I despise this teach and the way he teaches, which is all lecture and reading the textbook. I don't learn that way. His test are multiple choice and insanely tough. He gives a worthless study guide - don't bother attempting it because it won't help. Camper is a worthless professor at UTM. Take Coffey instead.
One of the best professors at Martin, they really need more guys like him. His reading quizzes are a pain but his lectures are very interesting.
If you skip class it will be very hard for you to recover from missed notes. He's a funny guy, and tells many interesting stories. The book is a must have and you have reading quizzes. There is A LOT of studying necessary to pass this class, but he's a very good teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. He only lectures - shows no videos, writes nothing on the board- only lectures and it gets old. He needs to learn that students are different now. We use phones and electronics, that needs to be incorporated into learning now. His tests are multiple choice and they are stupidly hard. I disliked Mr Camper passionately.
I LOVED Dr. Camper! I can't wait to take him next semester. His reading quizzes are hard but if you are confused about anything he is more then ready to help you figure it out. He will give you different ways to study if you need it. just ask him for help and go to his office and go over your tests. He will give you insight on what you miss.
Provided a clear syllabus and for the most part stuck to it. I really enjoyed the class and appreciate his down to earth personality. When I had questions he immediately responded. Would take another class with him again.
I took Mr. Camper for HIST 201 & 202 and I really liked his class. His lectures are insightful and he explains the content very clearly. His tests are tough, however, but they are fair and you do have to study to be prepared for them but he is no more difficult than any other teacher. I stopped by his office & asked questions and he didn't mind.
I took Camper for dual credit and he was fantastic. I learned so much about the political foundations of the US, the struggles of our early country, and the military & diplomatic incidents. He always responded to my emails with encouraging comments and gave wonderful advice on how to write the papers. Work hard and he will reward you for that.
I'm in his class now, it is very difficult, and there is a lot of reading involved. He is a nice guy though.
I'm in his class now, it is very difficult, and there is a lot of reading involved. Does not really explain what to read outside of class. He is a nice guy though.
Good professor. Exactly what I expected out of the class.
I had Mr. Camper last year for dual credit. He was very personable and easy to get along with and when I had questions outside of class MR. Camper also replied to my emails in a timely manner. His class is not the easiest in the world but if you study, ask questions, and try Mr Camper will help you pass the class. He rewards hard work and effort
Camper isn't a bad professor his exams are just so hard. his exams are 100 fill in the blank questions with no word bank. also doesn't allow computers in class. if you miss a class you will miss an entire section of notes cause you have to write what he says, his powerpoint just outline. won't take him again but it wasn't the worst I guess
I really liked the way Mr. Camper organized class. He gave extra credit for attendance, gives 5 open note quizzes, and four major exams that are IDs and Fill in the Blank essays. He gives partial credit for making an effort on the IDs. The only issue I had was there is A LOT of information covered in class so bring a recording device!
Great teacher. Always emails back quickly. Eagar to help you with anything. Very knowledgeable. Great lectures, lots of notes but he does put the powerpoints online so you can print them off before class so you won't have as many notes. Gives extra credit for attendance and pop quizzes. Tests are hard, all essay format, require a lot of studying
Took Dr. Camper in high school for dual enrollment. He is a tough grader, expects you to know very specific details, but is great. Most of the test questions stem from his lectures. If you listen, take notes, and study prior to the night before, you should do well.
Camper is a really nice guy and easy to talk to outside of class, but he packs a lot of material into this lectures and you had better be ready to write from the moment class starts to the moment it ends. His exams are not unreasonable. He also does not let class out early and holds you the entire time. If class are cancelled he uploads recordings
Mr. Camper is great! His lectures are thorough but they really do prepare you for the exams, which come straight from lecture. Nothing from the textbook. His exams are IDs and essay, but they are easy if you study. Mr Camper is a really nice guy, easy to talk to, but I really want to give him a hug because he does seem kind of lonely.
He tells stories of history that keeps you interested in learning.
Camper lecture style is handwritten heavy. They only times he would use the computer is when he wants to demonstrate geographical maps, quotes by significant persons, & pictures of significant persons. His exams are half fill-in the blank & half written responses. He does make it easy to understand the topic at hand
I took Camper for History 202 and it was a great class, and I really learned a lot about US history that I had not learned before. I went by Camper's office quite a bit because he does cover a lot of material, but he was always willing to help me fill in my notes on material that I missed. Tests are hard so study for them and take notes!
You DO have to attend class & you DO have to take notes b/c Camper does cover A LOT of material every class, but he is also a very compassionate person IF he seeing you trying your hardest - which means taking notes, asking questions, and attending class regularly. He bent over backwards to help me w/ history b/c it isn't my best subject to learn
Camper is good at what he does; the class is not the hardest but it isn't the easiest either. The exams can be very unforgiving if you don't study and take advantage of the hints he gives in class, esp. telling you the 3 possible for the fill in the blank essay options. Take notes the entire class because those are the exam!
fall semester just started and have had no assignments but I already hate this professor. just uses powerpoint & talks all class. slides have terms in yellow to know. BORING. all you do is take notes. pointless & useless class My sorority said to take David Coffey who is better and probably way more easier too so take him instead.
I dropped this class at mid-term because Camper's class is hard. You have five exams and that is it. He did offer a forgiveness policy on the first exam but you have to do well on the remaining four tests to earn it. Lectures are dry and boring with only powerpoint to go by with terms highlighted in yellow. Take someone else instead of Camper.
I would have dropped this class at midterm but I needed the hours. Camper is tough because he lectures in a story like fashion that makes it hard to take notes because you don't know what to write until he is done talking. His exams are all objective questions so if you get things wrong there is no partial credit. He's a wolf in sheeps clothing
Mr. Camper is a really nice guy. If you go to him for help he will take all the time you need to fill in your notes or help you study. Take notes the entire class period because he doesn't let you out early and he wil cover a lot of content each and every class because those notes are the examinations. Study the names of people and major events.
Took Camper in the Spring '21 online during the pandemic. He used Zoom to teach his class and Canvas for extra credit discussion boards and for the exams. The exams were not terribly difficult and they were matching, T/F, and multiple choice questions. He answered emails promptly and was understanding when events happened in life. I liked him!
Camper is a terrible professor. He only lectures and lecture is extremely BORING. I mean gouge your ears out boring. I don't understand why he is rated so highly on the UTM campus? Everyone I spoke with said to take Camper because he's great. Ummm. noooooooooooooooooo. He is horrible and his tests SUCK SUCK SUCK. Peace out and God Bless.
Took his History 202 class and it was great. A lot of people complained that it was too hard but that was because my class was filled with slackers. If you study the terms in yellow on the powerpoint slides you will do fine in the class. Ask questions and participate in discussion moments when he asks you what you think about a topic and you pass.
I took Mr. Camper for dual credit History 201 and it was an amazing class! His lecture are very easy to follow and the exams were exactly based off the content he covered in class. Just study and you will do fine. I hope to take Mr. C for History 202 next year!
A very solid professor who teaches American history in a understandable way. He lectures the entire class but the content he teaches is very easy for people to grasp if you have never had history taught to you. He passes an outline out for each topic to follow along with and terms are in yellow that you need to understand for exams.
Next to Coffey, JC is the second best history teacher at UTM. He gives small weekly extra credit opportunities, open note lecture quizzes, but his exams are rather difficult so you had better study and not put them off to the last minute. JC also has a great SI, so attend Caleigh's sessions. JC is willing to hold study sessions in his office too.
It amazed me that he NEVER has to look at notes to teach. He just walks in and can talk the entire class about the topic he is covering. He covers ALOT of interesting material in class with some interesting history about our Founding Fathers. He really opened my eyes to how interesting our history is and makes me want to study it more.
I honestly love him as a person, but as a professor he is probably one of the most boring you'll have. He just shows a power-point with highlighted terms and he talks for the whole entire time. If you don't take notes in his class, you will not pass. He wants to help his students so don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. :)
I took Dr. Barber for 202 & Dr. Lewis for 122 and I hated their classes, Camper's is the only one that I can sit through without being made feel guilty about crimes done in the past. He keeps his political views neutral and just teaches the content. I respect that after Barber & Lewis. His tests do require studying, but he offers bonus points
Camper's class isn't flashy with just PowerPoint and lecturing, but he does an excellent job teaching history. His exams and quizzes are based entirely off his lectures so if you miss class you are in trouble. You also have to take notes in class or you will have nothing to study. You don't have any readings and the quizzes are open notes.
camper is one of the best history professors on campus. his class is based on lectures and if you miss a day's notes, you are in trouble. his tests go by the powerpoint terms and can be somewhat difficult but just study! if you need help, just ask! he is super understanding so dont be afraid to reach out to him! overall a very great professor! :)
I had him for History 201. It is so amazing how he can pull up words on the board and just talk about them without looking at a single note. His tests are actually really hard if you do not study.
Absolutely excellent inside and out of class. Yes, show up and take good notes. There is no mandatory attendance, but he will offer extra credit of which you will only know in class. He is very flexible around life outside of school and open to discussions. Not a single better professor for History 201.
camper is hands down amazing. he teaches so well but very lecture heavy so if you cannot handle that, don't take him. if you don't look over your notes daily for the exams, you will fail. he's very communicative and helpful so if you need help in his course, just ask! he is the sweetest man alive.
Mr. C is really good at lecturing and explaining early US history! throws a lot of material at you, but it is all interesting. I hated history before taking Cs class. Now I love it! Exams are matching, T/F, & multiple choice. Can be difficult if you don't study. questions come straight from lectures. Offers extra credit for each class attended.
Mr. Camper is a really good history teacher. He is willing to work with you when life issues happen. Camper will lecture the whole class time, but the information is usually interesting. Some lectures can be boring but there aren't that many.
He is the GOAT! I didnt have the best history teachers in high school and came into history with severe deficiencies. Camper took time out of his personal schedule to help me fill in my notes on items missed and to help me study. No other teachers at UTM took the time to do this. Camper is a nice guyDont be afraid to approach him if you need help.
Pros: good at teaching, good storyteller, makes history interesting, tests are easy if you take good notes Cons: must be present to understand, hard to catch up if you miss a day, not forgiving, gets carried away sometimes about certain subjects, always uses the full class time, voice can be annoying, and the books/book quizzes are impossible
AWFUL! He just stands and talks the entire class time with powerpoint slides with terms highlighted. He is boring! He is boring! I hate every second of going to his class and I can't wait for MWF at 10:00-10:50 to be over!
Taking him for History 201 and I am REALLY enjoying the class. He is so passionate about history & I can't help but enjoy it too. I am learning so many new things that I never heard about in school, such as how human our Founding Father actually were & how politically manipulative they were in certain areas. Great class, exams & quizzes are fair
LOVE HIM! Plan on taking HIST 202 with Camper. He is a kind, sweet, person who cares about students and how we are doing at UTM. He enjoys class participation and people asking questions. Don't be afraid to speak up and ask him to repeat anything or ask questions. Get small bonus points for attending class that add up at the end of the semster.
He is one of the best professors UTM has to offer! Cares a lot about his students & what he teaches. Lectures are like a story which makes class more interesting. Gives bonus points for attending class. He's very responsive to emails and any questions you may have. If he doesn't have an answer to your question, he will research & get back to you!
Only have 3 exams & 5 quizzes so take them seriously. Moves fast in lecture since there is a lot of content to cover from 1877 to 2020. Easy to talk to in and outside of class. Very laid back. Enjoys having questions and discussions in class. Politically he is very unbiased and calls out both parties in history for their activities.
I LOVE this professor and I plan on taking another one of his classes next semester. We do cover a lot of material so the pace is very fast but he makes it interesting. I love how you get extra credit for everyday you are in class. This boosts my grade so much. You do have to study pretty heavily but the extra credit does wonders to your grade.
Quite possibly the GTOAT (Greatest Teacher of all Time)
Just take the class! He is AMAZING!
Great teacher, off book. Interesting lectures. Would 1000% recommend!
He lies about history a lot. over exaggerates too much. talks about his kids a lot.
Mr. Camper is a great guy who is easy to talk to after class. His lectures are interesting, but it is hard to take notes with him because he teaches history like a story where you have to write everything down. Test are rather difficult because of the amount of material he covers. Exams are multiple choice, Matching and True/False.
Mr. Camper's tests are rather difficult, but his lecture classes are simply amazing. He is a wonderful storyteller and he makes history come alive. It is almost as if you are watching the events of history happen through his stories. But his exams are rather hard, so you'd better be ready to study and participate in class for those bonus points.
His tests are very hard, but he gives a good amount of extra credit but it's still really hard to make a good grade
4 - 50 question quizzes.
Best history class I've taken. Camper is funny and keeps lessons interesting. Note-heavy but no homework, and you earn bonus points for attending. You can take any exam (except the final) whenever you want. Four short reflections are required but easy As. W professor.
Mr. Camper gives a lot of bonus points, but his test can be confusing.
