Is really a Philosophy teacher disguised as a communication teacher. The class was COM151- History and Criticism of visual media, which he took as art, which he took as philosophy. Seriously nothing to do with communication whatsoever. I would not recommend him if you're a com major, does a disservice by not teaching what's relevant to the course.
Grades on grammar.Teaches philosophy, not communication. Isn't a good teacher mainly because he does not teach what he should, but he's a great philosophy teacher. If I taught what carbon was in an anatomy class because it's the basic building blocks for everything, I still wouldn't be doing my job as a teacher because I didn't teach what I should.
Danaher teaches with passion. He has tendencies to take a philosophical view on subjects but it’s for a reason. He’s really good at making you critically analyze issues and structures in the communication field. If you want to be challenged, take his classes.
Really nice guy, helpful, but grades very odd. Had a group project that took a lot of work and should have been worth a lot more than it was. I do hope to have him in another class. Writing for the media was a little experimental at the time.
Professor Danaher is one of the few Professors I have had that truly cared about the material he was teaching and students comprehension of the material. He's passionate about the subject of communication and impresses upon the class this enthusiasm. You will not find a higher quality Professor at GCU. He is like the Dr. Jones of Communication.
He was a great teacher, very funny! He was a bit tough in grading, but really enforced self-improvement! Definitely one of my favorite Teachers thus far!
Prof. Danaher is a good teacher who is pretty well engaged during lectures and does his best to help students understand the material. Very tough grader, but is extremely detailed when it comes to why you deserved that grade. If you show little to no effort then he wont hesitate to give you the grade you deserved. Be ready for some presentations!
Makes you work for your grade buts helps you get there.
Very confusing about how to organize the speeches, especially at the beginning of the semester. Very tough grader. Quizzes are made to trick you, not let you show how well you know the material. Mean grader, no heart.
"C gets you a degree" Impossible to pass the class.
Super harsh grader! I felt lucky to get the grade I got. Definitely have to work your butt off in this class. Be prepared for lots of busy work and not getting the grades you expected.
Half the time I think he likes making his students fail. He grades super harshly and has the moto "C's get degrees." I do not recommend this teacher.
This was one of the best classes I have ever taken. It was not easy and make sure you read the chapters before coming to class. Danaher is a excellent teacher, and is very passionate about the subject and this is transferred to the student. You will walk away a more critical thinker, and with a greater understanding of persuasive theories.
Really cares about his students and will make the extra effort to help you succeed if you ask for it. Overall nice guy who is passionate about what he does and loves discussions in class. He is strict when grading speeches and the outlines but in the long run the class pays off.
I loved having Prof. Danaher for public speaking. I went in to this class being extremely terrified and shy of speaking in front of large groups. On the first day when he talked about grading I thought there was no way in heck I would pass this class, but by the end of the semester not only did I pass but I am so confident about public speaking now
The best teacher at GCU. You will be challenged, but you will learn a lot.
Class is a lot of group work. Pick a country that you are truly interested in learning about. RESEARCH ORIENTED
Professor Danaher is engaged in classroom activity, and makes his lectures interesting; I enjoy going to his class, and feel like I have gained so much throughout this semester. He is fair in his grading - you must earn your grade. You will do well in his class if you ask questions, participate, and ask for feedback on your essays.
Overall, Danaher is a great teacher. If he doesn't believe you are putting in the full effort you will see your grade drop. C's get degrees? Alright. People with scholarships can't take this class because he won't give A's. Although, I believe he got in trouble for some things because it seems he has changed a lot in the classroom.
Mr. Danaher is a tough teacher; however, he is a great teacher. I had to work hard for my grade in this class, but that is not a bad thing. He was very helpful and will especially help a student out in office hours. I would not take this class again specifically, but I would not mind having him as a teacher again.
Toughest class of my college career. Ruthless when grading. Goes through concepts way too fast and expects students to understand. Good guy with great motives but is just too intense. Genuinely cares for students but has too high of standards for them. It is a 200 level class but he treats it like a 400
He's not the greatest professor. He really does not help his students and he is very confusing. He is such a tough grader and he is super unfair. He picks his favorite students and if you aren't one-it's hard to get a good grade. I am a straight A student and I go a B in his class. He was not willing to help me and he is super passive aggressive.
Professor Danaher was amazing this semester. Yes, it's a hard class, but if you put in the effort and go to office hours, he'll make sure you won't fail. His lectures are highly intellectual but he makes sure the class stays engaged. Isn't biased and will treat you with respect as long as you're willing to communicate with him.
The material in this class is very difficult! He was always there to help even in office hours, but he is not a easy grader. Make sure to read the chapters and use the vocab in your essays. also DO NOT i repeat DO NOT skip class!!
Prof. Danaher was a great teacher. He is great with students and try to help. In the beginning of the semester he clearly said that this class is going to be hard and I learned so much and did every assignment to get a good grade. If you do your work and actually do it correctly, you'll earn a good grade. My favorite prof. so far but hardest class
Professor Danaher was great and I enjoyed his class very much! The discussion throughout the semester was outstanding and I learned a lot! He is a pretty tough grader, but if you put in effort and do what is asked you'll get a good grade and you'll also learn something. Great professor and NOT passive aggressive. I definitely recommend his class.
This class was a lot of fun. It is obvious that Professor Danaher loves what he is teaching. I did not think I would like this class but he made it interesting. He likes to joke a lot and have fun with his students. I enjoyed this because nobody wants a boring teacher. If I had to take any more COM classes, I would take them with him.
He definitely will make you work for your grade. His lectures are sometimes hard to follow but overall he explained things in depth and at the end of the semester, I ended up learning a lot. My advice if you take COM 263 is to never skip class, pick a country you are actually interested in, and don't be afraid to speak up in class.
Great teacher! Hard grader, but well worth taking his classes.
Professor Danaher grades very strict to the rubrics, so unless you are following it precisely do not expect an A. He is a great teacher and is enjoyable in class. YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS! Participation is so important in this class. When choosing your country and group for the semester choose wisely. Pick a country you can find a lot of research on
Danaher is amazing! He is the reason I enjoy my degree choice so thoroughly. He cares about his students not only their success academically, but spiritually and emotionally (but still very professional). He relates everything in his classes to the real world, and experiences that we have had or will have in our future careers. He is a great prof.
I really enjoyed Danaher's class! I'm not even a communications major, and I still found myself applying what I learned from his class to my everyday life, and gave advice to friends with influence from what I learned. When choosing a country, definitely choose a larger one that you can find research on. I'd definitely recommend him, though!
Professor Danaher is really engaging and energetic! He does a great job of teaching the material thoroughly and providing good examples and explanations. Lots of fun interactive activities to help understand concepts covered in class. Professor Danaher cares about his students and wants to see them succeed.
Great professor in class. But when it comes to papers he knows when a person is slacking and is not afraid if giving you the grade you deserve. Good guy though, enjoyed his corny jokes and great spirit every class.
It was a great class. Overall, I did not need to put in more effort than I normally do for this class. Make sure to choose a good group to work with on your presentations and that will make the class much easier. He's reasonable in regards to grading and gives pretty solid feedback on papers. I would take one of his classes again.
Professor Danaher is the best of the best. He equips his students for success and provides feedback that helps you understand what you can do to improve. His classes are not only applicable to the class, but to your life in general. I would highly suggest taking his class!
Wow! He's such a great professor- I'm hit every time when we have class with something new; I learn so much. He makes the saying "I try to think of 6 impossible things before breakfast" possible; everything in this class I find myself thinking about, even after the class is over. Class work is hard, but the hard work has worth. I love this class!
Goodluck actually finding him during his "office hours"
Overall, he is funny and a great professor. He makes class engaging and fun. He makes you not want to skip class)
Fun class but it kinda sucks that you can't take notes on your computers. He talks a little fast so it is hard to keep up but overall he is a good teacher.
Great lectures! Show up to class and you will learn. Encourages conversations in class and that is the main form of learning. Plays devil's advocate a lot and that might be why people misunderstand him.
Class began very questionably, the first day of class he talked about his ANUS. Overall, the class was very interesting; however his class was very hard to engage in and is very lecture heavy. He has good lectures but goes off on tangents a lot and is hard to keep up with on the lectures.
Danaher is a great teacher, he is funny, and challenging. There aren't many assignments, but the ones he gives are worth a lot of points. if you don't try hard on the assignment you wont succeed in the class.
If you can, get in his class.
I really enjoyed this class.
He cuts his office hours in half during the most import weeks of the semester...
YouTube-based course material, rarely in his office during "office hours"
He is not clear on any grading criteria. Never in his office during office hours. Not clear with instructions, he expects us to just know what we are doing without teaching. Extremely opinion based grading on papers.
Great guy. Actually cares about his students but makes you work for the A, which is respectable. Not too many office hours/during weird times which is inconvenient. Lectures are good and has good control of the class period. Make sure you attend class or lose participation.
Danaher has been, by far, one of the best professors I have ever experienced in my college experience. He genuinely cares about the well-being of every student and desires for everyone to be successful. If you want to be successful, you need to dedicate yourself. Doing well his class is a two-way street. He gives back the effort you put in.
His class was so life changing for me. I don't really even have words to say how much I respect him; if you're looking for a professor who genuinely cares about you and wants you to really learn more abut the world and who you are, take Danaher. You know those movies where a student changes immensely because of a class? His class was that for me.
He is such a wonderful professor! My life changed after taking his class. Such a respected human being.
This professor grades like this class is the most important thing you will ever learn in you're life. If there are any other COM-263 professors available, take them instead and you can thank me later.
Teaches like a 400 class but he makes it worth it
Danaher is entertaining, believes in his students, but also expects you to put in the work. So put in the work and you will do well.
Amazing, hilarious professor! Very knowledgable and available outside of class to answer any questions. Really takes the time to try and get to know all of his students! Likes class discussions. I've seen reviews he's a hard grader, but he truly is not if you follow the rubric and put in the work. You get out what you put in. DEFINITELY recommend!!
Danaher does an amazing job explaining material well and helping his students. This class is super fun and enjoyable! Danaher is fun and makes the class interesting. Some say he is a tough grader, but quite honestly, he isn't. Follow the assignment rules and you'll be fine. Be sure to ask him if you have questions, he is always there to help!
Awful! This professor does not have a passion for students, he has a passion for his own ego. Extremely arrogant and does not care about students. Avoid at all costs. Try to find a prof that has some empathy, this guy has no idea what the word means. He believes he can make you better through punishment and making you feel small. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Danaher is an incredible individual. You to grow within every class period; it is always a conversation instead of a lecture. He is intellectually inclined; this allows a student to want to grow themselves as well. He also makes sure students feel heard. Yes it is true- he does push his students, however for better. He only does it to grow you.
Danaher is a great professor. While he grades "tougher" it is all clearly laid out on the rubric, basically glance over it before you turn anything in. I have seen comments that he is never in office hours, but I have had him for 2 semesters and never had this problem; in fact, if you go into his office, he will often find research for your papers
Do not take this professor!! He loves to hear himself talk and the lectures are super boring. If you want to feel the life sucked out of you, then take his class. He is the hardest grader ever and takes the research class way too seriously. You aren't allowed to have your computers or phones out ever and the whole class period he lectures.
Honestly you get out what you put in. The lectures are kind of scattered so it isn't super important about note taking but the textbook will help you a lot. He is a tough grader but if you do what he says then you will be fine. He is always willing to work with students during his office hours and I thought he made the class really interesting!
This guy grades as if its a Doctorate program at Harvard lo. His class is a laughable example of watered down education. YT vids galore, no real content....
Professor Danaher is the first professor at GCU who intellectually challenged me. Although he has high expectations, he is always willing to give feedback and help outside of class. He also makes class fun by cracking jokes and showing cute videos of his kids. If you're willing to work a little for a better understanding, take Danaher's class.
he is a great professor. just have a hard time studying because im not interested in the topic. i have learned alot about how to talk to people and identify thier microculture, and wish his papers had like an outline so i know what each paragraph is supposed to be about. the last paper i was totally lost on what to write about.
Danaher is a great professor and made the mornings not as bad. He lectures straight from the book so if you need some more help in understanding, the book will be your friend. The papers are graded hard and I wish there was more of an outline for them, but he is available during office hours to help you with it all. You get out what you put in!!
SO helpful! Even when I am emailing him, talking to him in class, and seeing him in his office about an assignment, he doesn't appear to be bothered? Even when it's not for his class!! I get great feedback each time. He's also super caring. I cried in front of him once, but he gave great advice! Highly recommend.
He is very enthusiastic and enjoys what he is teaching but is a little too strict on his grading and class, most of his students take this class as an elective but he treats us all as COM majors. He is a little self-centered but not in a demeaning way, I would recommend him for higher division COM classes or majors, but for COM210 avoid him.
he is a bit of a tough grader but if you do what he explains the assignments aren't hard. he is really passionate about what he teaches which is nice because he makes it interesting. As long as you pay attention the class isn't hard
Danaher is what every professor should strive to be. He knows anything and everything about Intercultural Communication. He calls on everyone in class to spike participation and get diverse outlooks. He always has office hours to help you study, prepare for a quiz, or write (1 of 2) papers. He is so funny and caring with his students. Definite fav.
My favorite professor
Danaher is a great professor I really enjoyed his class. He was able to use great examples from outside of class to help us understand the information. He always got the class involved and made it easier to understand what was being taught. He is great when it comes to office hours and really takes the time to help. Make use of office hours!!!
Danaher takes pride in helping his students so really take advantage of his office hours. He does a great job of getting his class together and does a lot of activities that help you understand what is being taught. He uses real-life experiences as examples which are really helpful. Participation matters show up to class!
Best professor Ive ever had. He remembered every single students name after the first day.
Danaher is amazing and anyone who says anything different is whack and probably just skipped class. He cares, hes funny, and hot. Those who dont like him are just plebeians #Facts
Professor Danaher is great. I was a freshman this year and this class really made me feel comfortable. He is funny and makes an effort to remember students by there name. Work hard, make an effort to participate, and don't slack off because if you do you wont get a good grade. He also gives clear instructions which is nice so don't screw that up
I ran into Professor Danaher earlier this week and remembered to rate him on here (he is that good)! He is the type of man where he genuinely cares about what he does and truly wants you to succeed. If you do not make an effort to succeed, it can get difficult. I had trouble, but Prof. Danaher answered all my questions, guiding me to a solid A.
Danaher is a great professor and very straight forward. If you put in the work, it is easy to do well in his class. He is lecture heavy - however, it's broken up with many short discussions with the people who sit near you. I've made great friends in his class primarily from those discussions. He is accessible outside of class during office hours.
Danaher is one of my favorite teachers. He makes class very entertaining by bringing in his humor, and he makes an effort to connect to the students. He does not give "busy work" which makes the work much more manageable. Overall, simply pay attention to the material and there will be no surprises! He makes his expectations very clear :)
Danaher is a lot of fun in 263 and you can learn a lot. He cares about all of his students and wants them to succeed. He makes him self accessible to his students. Attendance is never required but if you skip youll loose participation points and you will fail. He does some funny things that are very entertaining which helps his lectures along.
Danaher is a great teacher because he is very passionate about what he is teaching. However, I do wish he was more attentive to the fact that not everyone in the class is majoring in communication. I am thankful though because it challenged me and I learned a lot.
he is simply the Goat no cap!
Dr. Danaher was an awesome person but as an educator he could be better. Dealing with COVID he made mandatory zoom classes where he would just play movies or have the class staring at a blank wall while he lectured to in-person class and we couldn't hear him. overall he's a good professor but he could be more clear with the material and assignments
I'm gonna be honest... I thought I'd give him a worse score. The biggest downfall is that he's a little too transparent with his politics, sometimes making others feel excluded for being different politically. However, it's abundantly clear that isn't intentional, and he does put a lot of effort into helping students succeed.
Danaher was a great professor for this class- the assignment instructions were always clear, as long as you participated it was pretty easy to do well. However, the blended classes felt like a waste at times since we usually talked about the same things as our in-class day. I'd still definitely take him again since he was a kind & great COM prof!
great teacher, my speech at the end made me a little upset when i was confused where to submit as there were two places, it went to the other and i loss a good chunk of the grade.
One of my favorite professors ever. His class was my first class in college and he was so welcoming and caring for each student. He made sure that the content of the textbook and material was understood. The papers we had to write were explained thoroughly by Professor Danaher and he made sure that every student was able to pass the class.
This is one of my favorite professors at gcu! He made every class engaging and made sure that each person was involved with the conversation and topics at hand. In this time of blended learning and in-person classes, I looked forward to his class for his personality and amazing teaching methods. Highly recommend!
He was fun and enjoyed talking to his students. I would take again!
Com-100 requires attendance and your grade is made up of participation. His lectures are interesting and he is a very caring teacher. There is a speech at the end of the course that I was nervous about. I expressed this to him and he was very accommodating. Genuinely cares for his students. He offers extra credit too. Picky grader though.
Absolutely LOVED Prof. Danaher & wish I had more classes with him. He knew everyone's name in the class by the second week and allowed everyone to be themselves & converse in class. Lectures were never too long & he made them engaging. Not too much hw, ALWAYS helps, & he gives you study guides, DO THEM. Please take him if you have the chance.
Professor Danaher is a true gem. His lectures are incredibly engaging and he is so accessible to his students in and out of class. He creates a classroom environment that is hilarious, intellectually challenging, and discussion-heavy. If you have a chance to secure a spot in one of his classes, DO IT!
This is the man. I had him in the fall of 2021 at 7am and he made the class very enjoyable. I hated the course itself but he managed to save my sanity with his comic relief. He also knew me by my beautiful hat.
Great professor, would 100% recommend
Danaher was a great professor, the only thing that I struggled with is finding how the class content connected directly to the assignments we had to do throughout the year. I felt like I was taking a different class in person than I was online. Danaher is very interactive and likes for his classes to participate so expect to be called on.
Professor Danaher is one of the best professors I have had. He makes class very enjoyable and allows us to have freedom in discussing controversial topics through various exercises. I wish we did more of these, like the civil discourse, but they were enjoyable nonetheless. I loved his class and cannot recommend it enough. He needs to be paid more!
Professor Danaher is by far my favorite Professor I have had at GCU! Out of all of my classes this is the class that I have never skipped. He teaches this course perfectly and has allowed for me to pay attention and stay involved with my culture and learning new cultures too. I recommend taking his class if you have the chance.
Professor Danaher is a great person and has great energy. He is very engaging and enthusiastic. He shares a lot and is able to connect with students on a personal level. However, the curriculum wasn't always clear, nor were the assignment instructions. I took this class as an upperclassman, and he grades stricter than any English teacher I've had.
Professor Danaher was a great teacher. He knew how to make lectures that interested the class, if he could tell students were getting bored he would find a way to make it fun. With Danaher I was able to understand this class so well, assignment instructions are very clear and he is always willing to help all students out during office hours.
Danaher is extremely engaging, directed with his lectures, and very helpful. He is my favorite professor that I had out of all of my freshman classes.
Great teacher take advantage of his office hours, go to class, participate in the lectures, (he loves when people talk) and do the work which is about 1 paper every other week and you will do just fine in his class, absolutely love this dude.
Danaher is an amazing professor. He helped me in my confidence with writing. Some advice I would give is to go to his office hours, participate in class, and let him look over your assignments. He is so kind. I wish I had him a few more times during my time at GCU.
Professor Danaher truly wants his students to succeed and does his very best to keep the class engaged. Intercultural Communication is my favorite class this semester and I look forward to attending every week.
Professor Danaher was the best professor I have ever had. He cares so much about his students, makes for an engaging classroom, and is willing to help in any way he can. This was my absolute favorite class and I wish I could take it again -- would 100% recommend for any comm class!
His lectures seemed like their was no applications when homework came along. I think that his assignments were not explained well and were left with lots of confusion.
The class concept is a little confusing but he does a good job integrating student participation into the concepts. He starts every class with 3 "for fun" questions to start the day off well. If participation isn't your thing then this might not be your professor. (Also do not be on your phone, IAs will mark you off for participation)
The curriculum he taught had little to do with assignments completed outside the lecture hall. His lectures often dragged on and not helpful for assignments. Heads up, he doesn't grade assignments, his IAs do. You can get help during office hours from his IA's. This class is easy. Do the work and get help when you need it.
Overall a great professor to have. The is not a ton of consistency within the course, and things kind of seem in the moment.
Professor Danaher made what I expected to be one of my boring courses very interesting and engaging. The professor has a great attitude and energy in class and makes the class very engaging. Danaher did a good job keeping the class engaged and making the class interesting. One of the few complaints was the class size which was far too big.
Professor Danaher lectures to the end of class but he makes class time fun. You have a lot of discussions with your peers during class. You have to take notes with pen and paper, he does not like if you are on your phone. He is always happy for you to visit him in office hours.
Mr. Danaher was not only engaging, encouraging and supportive but he respects his students. He always told us to go to office hours. He is so invested in the students success. He has been my favorite professor.
I went into this class fully expecting it to be boring, especially because it is a topic I wasn't really interested in, but Professor Danaher made it fun and interesting. He cares for his students and values participation, which is easy to do since he makes class so engaging. I would 100% recommend, this was my favorite class so far!
Danaher is honestly super cool he is very engaging with all students even though this was a class of 200.
Prof Danaher is a G. Such engaging lectures with relevant homework that is actually fun to do! Super funny too, take him!
Danaher is incredible, one of my favorite professors at GCU. He works very hard to make class engaging and is very knowledgeable in what he teaches. He will hold you accountable in this class but he cares a lot about his students. Enough to learn all of our names and even invite us all over to dinner a couple times. It's obvious he loves his job.
Danaher is a great professor who tries to keep class fun and entertaining. He might not be the best professor to take if you aren't so outgoing because he makes sure that everyone participates in class. Overall he is a fun professor teaching a fun class.
Danaher is a great professor and a standout guy. He brings tons of energy to class, and he truly wants to help instill confidence (and jiu jitsu skills) in his students. For a Gen-Ed, I enjoyed taking COM-210, but I'd only recommend it if you're somewhat extroverted to begin with since you'll be speaking in front of a large group of people often.
Danaher was the perfect professor to have my first year at college. He did great at keeping the entire class engaged without making me feel pressured to participate. Some may say he's difficult because of the assignments he gives you, but he does well at taking time to make sure you understand what is expected of you.
GREAT TEACHER. He is amazing at teaching, and I much prefer him over the English profs. He's funny, inspiring, and straightforward, he applies biblical teaching here and there! Writing this halfway into the semester and so far, so good! - Your favorite class couple (:
Professor Danaher was awesome!! As a Finance & Econ major I wasn't excited to take a COM100 class, but he made the class engaging and interesting. Attendance is required, but going to class isn't a drag. He definitely cares about his students. Sadly, he is leaving teaching to pursue his other career passions.
Danaher is by far of the best professors GCU has to offer. I had him for both Relationship Com and Public Speaking in one semester and it was a joy. He is so incredibly smart and amazingly knowledgeable on what he teaches. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him. He is caring, realistic, and funny if you actively participate. 1000/10!
