You don't have to do textbook homework, only webwork problems. He always pushes back the webwork so people have enough time to do it. Explains things well. Knows what he is talking about. Dentz is the man

Great Teacher

He's excellent. Extremely clear and precise. He's always willing to help people after class. If you miss class, he will re-explain everything just for you. He makes the subject more interesting. By far my best math class at Baruch.

Amazing professor hands down! He is very clear and helpful, but you still have to study a lot in order to do good. He gives two tests and a few quizzes which don't even count, and the homework is only webwork assignments, but it doesn't hurt to do the textbook problems. I would take him for every math class if I could.

A really nice and easy to understand professor! He stays behind for as long as you need and helps out a lot. There's only webwork hw and he always extends the due date. Gives tons of practice exams for the final and makes practice exams for his own tests that are pretty similar.

Overall great professor. Makes things easy and clear to understand. There is homework, online mathwork that isn't too overwhelming and really helps. Tests are okay if you pay attention and there are curves on the tests. 2 midterms and a final. Personally didn't use the textbook at all but it is needed to log into mathlab.

Very useful when you need an explanation of how to do a certain problem. Didn't find his lectures all that helpful, I relied on the textbook and mathlab to acquaint myself with the material, but he is bar none the best to go to with examples. ASK QUESTIONS, he will always answer. Pop quizzes, but doesn't even count them for credit.

He is very helpful. he is always available during office hours, he sets up times to tutor before an exam, he maybe confusing, but its really the subject. Math is not an easy subject, at least for me. Two test and a departmental final. Pay attention and do the mymathlab and you'll do fine.

If you pass the final all your previous tests are forgiven but if you fail the final you fail the class!

I suck at math but he was extremely clear and helpful. His lessons are detailed but sometimes you can get lost. Just ask questions and he WILL answer it for you. he will make sure you understand the material. He wants you to get an A. Has numerous review sessions for tests. He is very clear and goes step-by-step so everyone can follow along and understand the basics (but there is way more self-study required for 2205 than 2003). His lectures are more to grasp the foundations of the chapter, after that the HW and PRACTICE is what ensures you'll pass the dept's final. He hosted some review sessions - wants you to pass.

Professor Dentz is beyond helpful. He truly goes the extra mile for his students, gives review sheets before every exam that is literally almost identical to the test layout. He gives phenomenal curves on exams. Walks around class to make sure everyone is up to par with the lesson. In addition he hosts detailed review sessions for the final.

Goes out of his way to explain the material and will always repeat himself if you ask for it. Will prepare you for his tests in the best way by giving review sheets that are identical to exams and offers curves if needed. I would suggest him.

Professor Dentz is great. MTH2003 is a tough class but he always makes sure the students know the material. Really helps prepares you with great review sheets and review sessions before the final. Would definitely take again.

I love professor dentz he may not seem like it but he really wants his students to succeed. He goes above and beyond scheduling review session before AND after every test. He drops the lowest test grade I believe. He may go fast at times but he'll answer any question you have.

Truly one of the best in the math department at Baruch. I took him a year ago for pre-calc and calculus and his lecture style focused on the students' questions and his explanations. Gave lots of reviews before exams, hardly any quizzes. I bombed both midterms and ended with a solid grade because of the prep I had on final. It weighs the most!

Professor Dentz is the best professsor I have had here. I dropped this class last semester and taking it with Dentz was great. He is clear and concise. He wants you to succeed. He curves almost all the exams and he prepares you extremely well for the final. But for the final, do the practice exams! I wish I was taking him for Calculus.

Professor Dentz literally saved me! I was so depressed thinking I'd fail the course, I wasn't even going to take the final but then I realized that even though I failed all 3 quizzes, I did all the homeworks and got good grades on them! Homeworks have the same value as quizzes. He is very helpful. He prepares you well for all quizzes/final. 3

He is a great math teacher and I am so bummed he is not teaching Calculus next semester, or I would definitely be taking him again. His style is easy to understand and clear. He has many reviews in and after class for exams and the finals. His exams really prepare you for the department final. If you do well on those, you'll do well on the final.

Professor Dentz is so helpful and teaches the subject in a way that is clear and direct. He tries his best to teach you everything that's on the final and also prepares you for MTH2205. He gives generous curves on tests if the whole class did poorly.

He goes pretty fast, but if you really pay attention you'll understand. He goes step by step if you ask him to. He gives extra help to review the previous test after class. He'll even open up homework after the due date to give you more time. Dentz is a great professor!

He is a good professor, you can tell that he is very passionate about math. His explanations could be more clearer and he goes fast from time to time. He curves exams, but won't tell you by how many points. But he really cares about the students and want everyone in class to do well; always happy to stay after class and fast to reply to emails.

Dentz is the man. I dropped the class last semester and now with Dentz's curve I got a B-. The homework and his curves are the reason why I got this grade. He goes pretty fast and sometimes teaches things that are not important so make sure you study at home and go to tutoring.

Dentz really cares about his students and wants to make sure you understand the material. His lectures are at a good pace, stops for questions and is available outside of class. He curves his exams and drops the lowest of two midterms and all that's left is the final. Prepares you well for the final exam, would highly recommend.

Joshua Dentz is a gem of a professor at Baruch, I was lucky enough to have him stay on as a permanent substitute for my class and I've never been more grateful. Professor Dentz works hard to make sure every student understands the difficult topics of pre calc and goes out of his way to help students. A must have professor!

Very respectful professor. Has online homework, no quizzes and has tests on different chapters. Be ready to take wonderfully detailed notes and explanations are very understandable. You need to buy a calculator and a code to access homework online but thats for all MTH 2003 classes. Not too harsh on attendance but very kind to all students.

This man is legit the goat! Took his for pre calc and calc and he taught those class wonderfully. Hes mad chill and gives extra credit, he doesnt penalize you for being late, just show up. Goes really in-depth with lectures and makes sure the students understand everything. Dont take this guy for granted, best calc teacher in Baruch.

Professor Dentz's TEACHING STYLE is FANTASTIC. This was one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes the topics very understandable. If you feel he's going too fast, he'll be more than happy to answer your questions. I hate math, and this was actually my favorite class. An added bonus is he is a NICE PERSON and CURVES TESTS!!!!!!

Prof Dentz is always there to help you. Don't be shy to ask questions! The class is relatively hard (well it's calculus what did you expect?) There's going to be homework assigned frequently, don't slack because the course moves fast. Be sure to attend each lecture, or you we feel lost. The quizzes or no big deal only if you study. Great guy, he teaches very clearly. Do not skip class, calculus is a tough course. He will review practice exams before any exam. He will extend your homework due dates. Make sure to pay attention and you will do well! Take him!

Really enjoyed this class because of the teaching style. He really does a great job explaining material is everyone understands. The review for the exams are also really helpful and he gives generous curves on the exams. Pay attention in class, complete the math labs, and you can do very well with. He also drops the lowest exam.

AMAZING PROFESSOR curves exam grades, I believe if you pass the final you pass the class. His teaching style is so amazing and easy to understand. I suck at math so I failed both exams but did all my homework & passed the final, I received a C+. I could have gotten a better grade if I tried harder. Definitely take him!!

Best teacher. Calculus 1 is not easy, but he's super clear and patient. Works really hard that everyone understands. Fast-paced class. Lots of homework. Make sure to come to class. Stays after class to help with homework questions. COVID-19: Clearly out of his teaching comfort zone, but was my best remote teacher. Uses whiteboard, shows his face.

To be honest, I'm terrible at math but this professor was really kind and understanding. Very nice man. Would I take him again? No, but that's only because I struggle in math. I've had several math professors at Baruch and professor Dentz is the only one I didn't hate. Take him. Great guy.

Seriously, take him!!! Calculus is difficult, but it's a little less difficult with this professor. He actually explains the concepts in a way that's digestible, and he truly cares that you understand what he's teaching. When you have a problem with the homework, you email him and he gets back to you quite quickly. For real, take him.

He takes so many questions from them on the tests. Also usually curves his exams. Didn't really care about attendance in online classes and records all lectures.

Listen, Calc is hard enough as is, but less Prof. Dentz. He's such a sweet guy and really cares about his students. I struggled so much in his class and he lectures pretty quickly, but is always willing to answer questions and slow down to explain it again. He is a wonderful professor and goes through everything very cleary, which helped me get 100s on both exam. He is heavy with the curves so even if people in the class got a 75 on the exam, he would round it up to an A. Shout out to this guy for always looking out for everybody.

I took this class on summer which mean is that it is going fast (obviously) although didn't did well on the first exam, however he will curve the exam which it is way better and care about your grades! take him!

Mth2009 as a summer class can be really challenging but prof. Dentz makes it easier even tho his lectures are super fast. Hes also willing to go over some stuff you didnt get, just ask ! His tests are curved and if you work hard youll def get an A. He always answers pretty fast to emails. Take him, hes a great guy and a great mathematician.

Professor Dentz is great teacher and person. I am a Journalism major and had to take his class to fulfill a math requirement. The entire semester was online. He gives 2 test and a final and drops your lowest test grade. He curves all the exams quite generously. I am terrible at math but still managed to pass his class. Take him he's a gem.

You have to really work hard to get a good grade. If you speak to him he will try his best to help you. The class was online but he answers his emails instantaneously. He's a great professor if you really want to master the material. Work hard and you will pass his class!

He is incredible. I took him after dropping last semester. He has office hours, replies emails, and grades fair. He has 3 tests, drops the lowest, and then a final. You have to do a lot of homework, but its my mathlab assigned and he extends time if you ask him. Also, he CURVES. Hes the nicest, kindest, easiest mth2003 Professor. Just take him.

Prof. Dentz is one of the most caring professors I've had at Baruch. The MathLab and extra problems he posts on Blackboard are very helpful because as you will eventually see this is not an easy course. Before all his tests he does a review which is basically a cheatsheet for them. If you still need the extra help, go to him during his office hours

Hes crazy but worth it. Answers any questions. GIVES a lot of helpful study materials. Just keep doing practice tests over and over again until you understand. Currently passing.

The best professor in the math dept. He encourages office hours and will actually help or tell you to come back until you get the material. Super sweet guy and is open-minded. He explains all the math he writes on the whiteboard, leaving you with no questions. He is also willing to open the Web Assign homework at the times you may need

A little odd but such a funny professor. He goes SUPER fast so you have to tell him to slow down but he offers a lot of time to help if you have any issues. Make sure to study a lot.

Prof. Dentz was honestly a great professor. Goes pretty fast, but will absolutely explain something if you ask. VERY difficult & content heavy course though. Three exams, curved, and he drops the lowest. Reviews for exams are like cheat sheets. I also HATE math & would have failed if he wasn't my prof, still don't know how I got an A-. Take him!

The downside is that the subject is hard so tests and finals are extremely difficult. He also assumes you already know what he is teaching, so he zooms through lecture

Josh Dentz is a great professor but goes very quick and expects everyone to think the same as him.If you struggle to understand material I would suggest to go to the SAC tutoring.

Took this class a 2nd time so I already had some knowledge of the material. He's very quick and easy to understand but he does want everyone to think & be on the same page as him. HW given from MyMathLab and there were 2 exams & 1 midterm. Ok professor, just show up, pay attention & DEFINITELY attend SAC tutoring.

Dentz is truly a great professor. Seeing him for the first time will be scary; he DOES NOT at all look like a professor, but he is very clear on all the topics he teaches and maintains a good style of teaching that is easy to catch on to.BTW he will repeat the phrase "You have to pass the final to pass this class" very often.

3 tests, no pop-quizzes, and curves the test based on the class average. he can be demanding sometimes, but he wants everyone to understand math since you have to learn a lot in about 15 weeks. hw is from my math lab, so complete the assignments to further understand the topics. you have to have some knowledge of math, but show up ask questions.

This professor was amazing and made this difficult course manageable. He was encouraging through tests where I thought I bombed, and gave an uplifting attitude to content that was very hard at times. I would definitely recommend this professor and I would even say if you are able to get into his early morning session it is 100% worth it! Good luck

This professor is worth it. He curves exams and is very lenient, you just have to ask. Took the class during the summer, so it's extremely fast.

Best math professor @ Baruch. Funny, compassionate, patient, thorough. Takes his time to make sure you get the material. The homework can be a bit much, but thats not within his control. He curves well and just really wants you to succeed. His lectures are engaging and he encourages you ask all of the questions.

My 3rd time taking this course and I finally passed thanks to prof josh. I failed the first exam, even with the curve and I spoke to him about what I was struggling. Pre calc isn't easy, but prof josh provides a lot of materials on bb, including previous zoom recordings; exam reviews and notes. His teaching is clear and he makes sure everyone.. (1)

(2) understands the material before moving on. If you do not want him to pick on you, DO NOT sit at the front. he will expect you to participate. He gets a little too passionate about the material and will start screaming at the board its funny. When you ask him a question, he will make you feel dumb but not on purpose. But thats

Great professor. This was my second time taking this class (summer session ) since I did not pass the final the first time around. He genuinely wants to see everyone pass and do well ,he also curves well. Professor Dentz was very clear, he does a lot of examples, but that's the only way you will really learn the topic. His practice exams that he posts are a big help and he does a good job at making the subject understandable.

Mth class so every lecture is heavy, took attendance early in the semester. Starts on time or a few minutes early. Had 3 quizzes. The only issue was the time of the class but he was great at teaching each section and making sure you're able to solve questions on the calculator. One of the best math professors at Baruch. 10/10 would take again

Pre Calc within it's self is a difficult course and if you don't study you will struggle. That being said Joshua Dentz is quite literally the best professor I've had at Baruch. He's extremely passionate about wanting his students to pass the course. His lectures are clear and his 3 in class exams help prepare for the department final. DEF TAKE HIM!

Considering how poor the average math professor is at Baruch, this professor was a blessing. Curves exams depending on the class average, goes slow when people are confused, and is a fair grader. Just make sure you actually ask him questions or he will yap so fast and you will fall behind. Also get there a little early sometimes he starts too soon.

He was a great professor. I took this class three times and now I finally passed. He was much better than my previous two professors. He's a great guy and would do everything he can to help you pass this course. He gets along with all the students and his lectures are crystal clear.

Don't give up! Took this class in the spring but he was a great professor and curves generously on exams. I was very close to failing however he curved my grade and I ended up passing the course...I am so grateful for him. Professor Dentz you are a kind soul and I will always be grateful.

He might seem off-tone at first but he is hilarious on the low and would answer your questions. There are 3 tests and ALL OF THEM ARE SUPER HELPFUL for the finals. The practice is usually harder but worth it. the homework is only MyPearson and you only need the textbook for the code. Considering Pre-Calc is a pain for most, this was a light class.

Professor Dentz made this tough math class manageable. He's patient, encouraging, and really wants students to succeed. Attending lectures and using resources like Unstuckstudy for extra practice helped me pass with a decent grade.

He is a great professor. Calculus is difficult on its own & requires a lot of practice. Most of the grading is from the department, which adds more weight to what's already a stressful class. He provides old lecture videos, goes over practice exams, and curves the exams/Tests a lot. Just be cautious with Calc in general. VISIT HIS OFFICE HOURS

He is the nicest professor I have ever had. You must take his class (if you haven't yet). He repeated all lectures and answered all questions until you get it. He gave you extra time for homework. The test is not easy (it never been) but he has fair curve. Just attend class, stay focus and curious - you will do great. He is too good to be true.

TAKE THIS GUY! Amazing at teaching and willing to repeat things until you understand it. Reopened homework assignments weeks after due dates. Good curve on class exams (no curve on final exam because of department rules). Homework, Exam1, Exam2, Exam3, and Final Exam makes the course grade, but he dropped the lowest exam score. Funny as well.

I tool this professor over the summer and he is very chill! I highly recommend him and he is clear on his lectures and his tests are also good prep for the final! Really enjoyed his class and it helped me understand the topics better!

Professor Dentz left around the second month of the fall 2025 semester, but the way he taught was effective and made math actually understandable, which is crazy considering that it's one of my weakest subjects. His replacement was a clear downgrade. If he does return in the future, I highly recommend that you take him.

Took him for MTH2009 but he left a quarter into the semester. He teaches math really well, and he will help you on any question you have. He posted a bunch of videos and materials on brightspace to study. He is a bit odd, but can be awkwardly funny sometimes. Overall, pretty good
