i took him for anthro 201 and it was really easy. you learn a lot without wanting to bash your head in. tests are not hard and he gives you a study guide. one research paper. and all the notes are put on blackboard. class discussions can vere off course. but they're really interesting. in short: take him. you won't regret it.
He's a super-nice guy. Passionate about his profession, along with other subjects he brings up. Very easy class, all notes on blackboard, tests are not too difficult. Maybe he doesnt have as much knowledge of Anthropology as he should, but he's a good professor with a good sense of humor.
Great teacher! Very easy (including tests)
he is the best
He is a great teacher but he looses you sometimes. But he is HOT!
Enthusiastic and engaging. Recommended.
Very Very easy class...and he is very cute!
Prof Jones tries 2 be humble & teach his subject but his cutness is distracting. He does have a great sense of humor. He uses group work alot to help drive home important concepts. He is well prepared & i did leave there w/ a whole new respect for the world around me & my responsibilities to it.Good teacher who's making a difference thru his students
He is a very young and good teacher. He is very clear and helps the students to understand and see the world with real eyes. I highly recommended for another classes. He always is there for any questions or extra helps. He is very interest about students problems and points of view. I really like him a lot.
Mr. jones is pretty cool teacher. Easy to understand, you can tell he wants students to do well in class, provides extra credit. If you pay attention and read, it will be a breeze in his class
He can appear easygiong, but he has a sharp mind and finds the best way to teach the class. He uses different teaching techniques to hit the material from different angles. His personality akes you want to hang out with him outside of class. Easy grade, but you learn so much anyway.
I took this teacher after reading the reviews here, and I guess I expected a lot more from the class because I ended up disappointed. I found Jones to be lazy, uninspiring and way too easy. I was highly interested in the subject (cultural anthropology) but I didn't gain a thing from the class. Seriously overrated, he is only average at best.
I love this prof.I ended up taking 3 classes with him.He is reall down to earth and is really willing to help his students undertand and apply soc sci concepts. He does lose you at times, but once he gathers his thoughts, you get it again.I HIGHLY recommend this teacher, because even after 3 classes, I would take more with him if I could!
Mr. Jones is an awesome teacher. His class is very engaging and fun. He is understanding and always willing to help. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his classes!
Interesting subject matter, completely uninteresting instructor. Bipolar tendencies, childlike attitude. If given the option take MARION MCCREEDY for Anthro 202. She actually did field work in Africa for over a year... WAY better instructor.
I found Jones incredibly condescending. He talks down to students, laughs at what he deems "stupid" questions and favors the men in the class. It's disappointing b/c I was really interested in the subject, but he drones on and gives busy work. It seems like he's only teaching b/c he can't do field work. Take someone else if you want to learn!
I HAVE A HUGE CRUSH ON MR. JONES! Mr. Jones, if you are reading this, call me! He's a good teacher. Easy homework, work group, and he reviews every test.
Prof. Jones can have the attitude that he doesn't want to be there any more than we do but in all fairness he is a good teacher and he is crystal clear about what he expects for a good grade. Just do the assignments and it's easy
Prof. always prepares well for his classes and grades papers quick. Interesting class.
I'm taking his class now, I like him a lot. If you are willing to, u can easily get an A. And I think he is very generous, thinking to take his Anthro class next semester.
Prof. Jones is a great instructor.Very helpful, encouraging, and making course and tests accessible.Pretty easy to get an A if you show commitment.
Best professor that I have had here.
Excellent prof! By far my favorite I've ever had. Knowledgable, nice, helpful, considerate, thorough. And to top it off, he's incredibly attractive - so you have something to look at. Projects are fun and the work is easy - just make sure you don't include any biases in your work, answer questions fully, and show up for class.
Easiest A..(had an 100%)i had in my life...an excellent professor. He gives review before the tests....and 85% of them comes out on the tests...plus he gives chances of lots of extra credit..his subgroup observation projects are pretty much easy..
Besides the fact that he speaks extremely FAST, I loved this professor. Book usage I would say is 50-50. His tests are based on his Slides, which are all on BB. I found him very handsome, and helpful. I received a 50 out of 50 on the research project, and got A's on the 3 tests. He gives enough extra credit to pass his class!! TAKE HIM!!!
can we say best teacher at truman?! this man works hard outside the classroom and inside. literally you hear kids that come back asking what else do you teach and take like 2 or 3 of his classes even changed their major, super nice and very informative loved all the classes i had with him wish i could have had more
socio and anthro classes make you think critically and prepares u to face the outside world. If you get too much load, how are you gonna manage overall science classes, family, job etc.The topics discussed in the class and the way he makes us think critically is worthwhile. I feel happy that I am getting university level education b4 transferring.Tq
this dude does talk really fast. id suggest reading the book for a little more clarity on some of the topics. he gives study guides and offers loads of extra credit. the ethnography is really simple dont over think it. he can be a cool dude. try to pay attention and participate as much as possible. study! those tests arent as easy as youd think
Awesome - very fair, and will teach you a lot. He does speak in jargon a lot, so pay attention, and you will think like an anthropologist by the end of the semester. Genuinely good guy. Took the time to write all assignments with previous version of textbook also to save us money. That says a lot about him right there alone. Wish he had more classes. A++++++
Prof Jones is down to earth! He cares about all his students. Lots of passion and knowledge. Hands down, he just keeps it real. Just do the work and you'll be fine. If you're more of a visual learner, his slides are avail on BB. Do the study guides. He has a lot of real world experiences it seems. Nice to pick his brain.
Mr.Jones is a very good teacher! I wish more teachers were like this one. He is very helpful and will help you pass!!!! Take him if you want to pass!!!!!!!!!!
He is a very clear and concise instructor and made the class very engaging and informative. He is very respectful and fair. His powerpoints were always on bb, and he always had study guides for every exam.
Come to class on time. Do you assignment/extra credit. Study everything on the study guide, and you'll get an A. He's hot too! ;)
Prof. Jones was great for Anthro 202. There are only 3 exams and 3 quizzes throughout the whole semester. He offers some extra credit opportunity. Lecture slides are available online. Participation is big part of the grade. Don't be late to class. He gives study guide before the exams, which are super helpful. I'd take him again. Oh he's a cutie!
Excellent Professor who is knowledgeable about his subject matter. Very organized grader, every missed classlateassignment counts as does participation. Extra credit is offered only to those in class. Get the textbook, read it. Get on blackboard for his slides- use it. Uses 3-4 exams and 3-4 quiz grades + in-class assignments and homework.
I like the Professor. He explains things pretty well, and repeatedly. Every lecture includes an in-class exercise, unless time is running out, then the exercise is given as homework to be turned in the next lecture. He provides PP slides and study guides for the tests, so as long as you study them, you will do well in the class.
I loved his class, and his teaching was one of the best I ever received at Truman. He ensured we understood the topic and illustrated with videos. He gave us tons of assignments too and it's really important to submit them exactly when they are due. Do not be late for class and participate too bcus he likes it and grades on them. I'd take him again
I found this class and instructor to be very transparent, well organized, and interesting. He does have a sense of humor, but he's not condescending.
Professor Jones is one of the best professor at Truman, he very friendly, offer a lot of extra credit, and study guide for every test. it's also impossible to fail his class if you do the work and attending the class. trust me he is the best, 80% of his test is base on PPT and book.
I really enjoyed this class with this professor. He is very clear with what he expects and gives great study material for all the exams. This class was very interesting too!
VERY clear on grading criteria from the beginning. Powerpoints of all lectures and study guides for exact concepts on exams given in advance so you'll know what to focus on. Final presentation project is a big deal but follow clear guidelines for a relatively easy good grade. Simple extra credit opportunities offered to boost grade.
You must show up because he grades on attendance and on engagement separately. His lectures are on BB power point at all times. Exams are fairly easy if you review the study guide for a couple hours the day before and the day of the exam. Couple group presentation. You need the book to do homework and class work. Overall his class is an easy A.
be in class all the time and know about the homework (no updates on bb) disrespectful replies to emails if you miss it, you miss it (if he likes you he might give you partial grade) i think that professor not transparent
Professor Jones is awesome. He knows how to prepare his students for the class and tells you what he expects from day one. The tests are pretty hard, but if you do the homework, come to class, pay attention, and speak up every so often, you can do pretty well. He does offer some extra credit that isn't too hard, so you get a boost.
Makes class fun and lectures interesting. Lots of powerpoints that are coded with material to study for exams. Exams can be tricky so you'll really need to understand the material but if you study the powerpoint material you'll do well. LOTS of opportunities for extra credit to boost your grade. Would take him again if I were an ANTH major.
Professor Jones is amazing he is VERY helpful if you are having trouble understanding any of the material and i loved that he responds to emails quickly. i would take any class with him again I highly recommend.
This guy made a subject I had zero interest in absolutely fascinating. He is incredibly passionate about his field and always came to class prepared for what he was lecturing on that day.
He is very intelligent and kind. He makes class interesting. Explains things very well and always willing to help you. Tells students EXACTLY what you need to know for tests. Always look at study guides for tests! Engagement is key, always come to class! Reread slides, lots of key info are in the slides. One of the best professors ever!
Professor Jones is super charismatic and very knowledgeable on his subject. I took Anthropology on a whim with him based on reviews here, and he was probably my best professor. Lots of extra credit opportunities, tests and assignments are straight forward and amply prepared for both in class with review games and out of class with study guides.
Awesome professor! Explains material really well & is available outside of class. He gives a total of 15 E.C. points - do the 3 pointers (there are 5 total). Study guides he posts are extra helpful for exams. Pay attention to the fill in the blanks questions as they are 2 points each. Participation matters as you do writing exercises in class.
What can I say!! Great professor. Knows what he wants to transfer. The lectures were amazing. He made me to have interest in something that I hadn't before.
Hes really a tough grader. Though his lectures are amazing it just sucks that you have to be present all the time. Unforgiving of engagement points, you have to adapt to the culture in his class and demands you get the right answers all the time otherwise you wont get those points. Its quite intimidating. Makes the exams harder than it should.
I took anthro during the summer. Prof Jones made it mandatory to attend his classes all the time (participation and engagement ) is crucial for an A or B. Despite the heavy lectures, his tests were harder than they shouldve been. During finals and he still kept giving everyone homework on top of the final project which was incredibly unfair
Its tru that participation matters with Jones. Get it right or it wont count as participation. I took his class during the summer and It was just awful. His grading criteria wasnt clear at all and if you email him about anything, hes quite rude about it. I chose him because of the great reviews here but was greatly disappointed that I did.
Josh is really intelligent and you can tell by just listening to his lectures. I feel like he told me he was a head of a department and the school should be proud of that choice.
I took Mr. Jones' class in the Summer of 2017 & it was one of the fastest classes ever. If anything I would suggest anyone if they can to courses in the summer since they go in a short amount of time but you get easy credit. I definitely learned a lot + he also offers LOTS of extra credit which helped my grade SO MUCH.
I took Mr. Jones' class in Fall 2017 & it was nice since I taken his class during the summer I already knew what to expect of him. Even though it was a different subject it was pretty much the same text wise & extra credit. He was also sweet & offered to write me a letter of recommendation. He knows what he talks about& his lectures are informative
Great Professor! I took two courses with him, anthropology and social science. He is really helpful. All you need is to read the chapter before class for participation. He explain very well the material. If he teach other courses, I will definitely choose him as my professor. The school is lucky to having him.
Hes a great professor I think its the fast pace of teaching the subject overall he is a great professor and anthropology is a great class to take.
Hes a very enthusiastic professor. Hes clearly very experienced and has streamlined his class to be both informative and convenient and fair. He puts in effort to make sure his students all pass, in fact he put up study guides of the key terms we should know going into each test as well as hosting a test review game before each test!
This class was pretty easy, to be honest, but the way he structures the discussions is mediocre, to say the least. He encourages participation and I mean encourages and doesn't accept wrong answers. If you do get it wrong, he doesn't count it for the points which means you have to read in advance. Didn't specify the requirements for the final proj.
Hes so unprofessional, and doesnt like to accept when hes done wrong. Over-explains, and makes things a lot harder to understand.
Mr. Jones is a great, smart guy. Don't be shy to see him outside of class! I was and it lead me to misinterpreting my grade. Try to go to the lectures even if you are not feeling too well. What I did on my really sick days was prepare at home. However, the lectures really help when understanding material. Overall a great course to take
A great professor, who gives you several opportunities to earn a grade in class. Participation, tests, hw, final project, if you slowly put in the work there's no way you should get anything lower than a B (or even C if you slack a bit). Definitely take this guy, as you can see a passion for subject and care for students.
excellent teacher :)
He is nice to an extent
Professor Jones exams are tricky and harf sometimes. You need to be on time in his class and participate. He gives tons of assignments. Be ready to read a book Evicted.
Love this man! is very specific in what he wants when grading and is pretty understanding when it comes to turning things in late as long as you let him know in advance.
This professor grades very harsh, hes very intense. I was going through some health issues and he wasn't really understanding. I had a very very hard time in understanding the material. He not a compassionate teacher or shows grace when you are really trying hard. if i was you i would run and not take this class. I had to drop his class .
Prof. Jones was a good professor overall. He can be quite specific in what he wants and sometimes hard to understand, but if you follow the rubrics you'll be fine. Also, the exams can be difficult because they're more practical rather than memorization but you'll have to pay attention in class to do well.
Professor Jones is one of the best professors I have ever had. I enjoyed his lectures and I could say his class was my favorite. he is not boring and you could learn a lot from him. he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I would definitely take his class again.
Professor Jones was one of my favorite teachers at Truman. I had him for Anthropology 202 and Sociology back to back. He is very passionate about both subjects and is very clear with what he wants out of projects and homework. He is a fair grader and very accessible outside of class. Lectures were never boring and he kept the class engaged.
Great professor. Took him for Soc 201 and would take every class he taught. Clearly very interested in the material and tries to engage his students (which is hard on Zoom). Good lectures and is clear about what is expected for each assignment. Tests aren't difficult if you take notes and pay attention during class.
I was so nervous to take an anthropology class but professor Garcia-Jones structured the course very easy to follow and stay on track! The assignments were always clear and he was easily accessible if you had any questions. Most of the class was lecture but he did a good job of asking questions & playing media to keep us involved and attentive.
Sociology 201 class with Prof. Garcia Jones was interesting in Spring 2022, This class consists of 4 exams, 8 Written Assignments, 3 Discussion Boards, class group assignments, 1 final Cultural Ethnic Presentation/ Present in front of the class. The book Sociology The Real World Ver 6 can be found in a free version online as a PDF (Safe money).
I loved this class. attendance is mandatory or else you'll fall behind. He was very clear in his teachings and was always willings to go over things if you needed help. material for the most part is pretty simple if you pay attention. easy A if you do the work.
I did this asynchronously. There are three zoom calls. Three test, one assignment/chapter is done every week. Also a bunch of extra credit opportunities. Make sure ur response is over a 100 words, other than that if you do bad on assignments/tests, the extra credit does help.
Sociology is my major and he is an amazing professor! He goes over the homework in class and if enough people participate so usually leads to no homework. His final project is the most important since you'll either have to write a paper or do a powerpoint. His workload is manageable is he is accessible and communicates very fast. Cool teacher!
This professor was extremely stiff.
I just can say that you should take his class because he is a really good professor, and his voice catches your attention.
Jones is a wonderful professor but he also gives a lot of homework and you need to actually put effort in them, if you don't he will see it. He gives feedback every assignment you turn in and you have to participate in his class. Since it was an online class get ready to turn on your camera because if you don't you're going to lose points in class.
I had a disappointing experience with this professor. They often came across as dismissive and unapproachable, which made it difficult for students to seek help or clarification. This lack of support and respect for student concerns created a frustrating learning environment.
Professor Jones stated that I was withdrawn from this async course due to failure to meet the "active pursuit" clause. However, I had completed nearly all of my assignments with 100% and active in discussion boards. Brightspace only displays the last login date, not the total time spent, making it impossible for students to see the required hours.
Four hundred of his class points go to five quizzes with 16-20 questions that you have to complete in less than 7 minutes. There is no time to think, no time to answer correctly. This is the worst class. The content is really interesting, but the professor is not great with his methodology.
The class started easy. There were 2 discussions, 5 quizzes, and 3 writing assignments. Quizzes had 16 questions in 6 mins—no time to read. Assignments were simple and grading wasn't harsh. He accused me of copying with no proof (gave points back). You had to log into Brightspace 3x/week for points. Never saw my final grade-class closed early :(
Great professor! Really knows his stuff and wants to teach the material in a fun, digestible way. Do not use AI in this class, it ruins his spirit!
Too much grading on participation (there shouldn't even be grading on attendance anyway, to be honest) and his lectures are at lightspeed. Unapproachable, snarky, and perhaps passive-aggressive; I said within an assignment that my computer couldn't do a certain part of it and he literally made the "it works on my machine" joke unironically.
Information-heavy lectures/slides that you'll need to revisit. No study guides. Personable, knowledgeable guy. Think critically and stay on top of deadlines. Lost 50% off of 3 diff assgnmnts for turning in less than a day late :( Loved his Anthro202, hoping to try his Soc201 also. Overall rec if ur a hardworker who actually wants to learn.
Unfortunate experience my first semester back at school after a year and a half. Lacking on communication (emailed many times about the same thing) and tough grader. I feel like I could have retained more from this course with another instructor.
