He's great. Tells you from the start what is expected. It's not an easy A but it's not hard. Convey that you understand the material and you'll be fine. Participating is very important.
Joshua Kreger, College Success, despite the few who dropped in my class during spring 2016, cols 101 has the be the easiest class I've ever attended in my life span. I've had roughly 6 papers, they're simple, easy and takes me 2 hours to complete. He will usually give you 2 weeks to complete 2 pages. Topics: Study habit, career expectation, goals
He seems like he is a hard grader, but he's not. He does like his pop quizzes and it seems like he only pops them up when he knows no one is paying attention. I did enjoy him as a teacher though. As long as you put your work into the class you'll do fine. Oh, and he is totally awesome to look at, haha
His teacher style refelects his hair, smooth. I love the way he teaches with such passion and emotion. He knows everything that he teaches and would definitely recommend him to ANYODY.
He is a very enthusiastic teacher. He isn't necessarily a tough grader but he does assign a lot of short writing assignments, sometimes a few due the same day. He was a very nice teacher though. Discussion is a big thing in his class. Although it is an introduction class, the class does require some background knowledge.
Hands down, he was my most influential professor this semester. You need to participate in class, you need to do more than just take notes, engage in the discussion! The book won't help you, he goes above and beyond the requirements for the course. As mentioned by others, very nice to look at.
Get ready to write papers. I probably wrote 8-10 papers, from short 1-2 page assignments to 4-8 page research papers. Good news is that helps cushion your grade because as long as you put in effort and follow instructions you'll get good grades on papers. Only 2 tests, midterm and final, and participation is important! I learned so much though!!
This was a good class. I learned many new things !
Josh was a very good professor overall. Yes, he gave a lot of work for a COLS101 course but he did help us understand our self-concept as well as teach us how important time-management is in the real world.
Josh was a great professor overall. He tried his best to get his students engaged in the lesson even though some of them didn't take the class seriously as it was only 1-credit.
He was alright. He has a bit of a dark sense of humour, and he requires papers to be ridiculously in-depth and really well researched before you earn one of those little stamps he likes to put on papers that exceeded his expectations. He really stresses citations and making sure you have good sources for your papers.
This guy deserves a raise! He works too hard to not be recognized. He gives lots of feedback to students so that they could be successful in College. I wish I wasn't timid so that I can let this professor know how appreciated he is by a plethora people. At the end of his course he gives a heartfelt lecture. Highly recommend to a throng of people!
The best thing about Joshua's class was that he did his best to teach the material without adding any bias. He gives information, different perspectives, and then allows you to make up your mind without pressing his beliefs. That's something I miss greatly with being at a larger school. Great Professor, better person.
Definitely gives a lot of assignments but they are really easy. Great lectures in class that help you plan/think about the future. Felt like a real resource to ask questions about anything college related.
He is an amazing person inside and out. I had a hard time with this class as I failed it twice before. I gave up on myself and he didnt allow that. He helped me in ways I could never thank him. I actually retained the information and can use it with my daily life and actually know what Im talking about. It literally is the best feeling
Very educated good teacher! Everyone was interested
He's a great professor and makes the class interesting. There is a lot of writing and a few tests but as long as you come to class, participate and stay on top of the essays, you'll be fine. He makes jokes and we have good discussions about the topics. I very much enjoyed it.
Josh is a great professor, he strives to introduce course material in an unbiased and comprehensive way. There are a lot of papers, and this can get stressful, but the prompts are always interesting and thought provoking. I learned a lot from his class and I would definitely recommend it to others who are interested in anthropology or sociology.
Great teacher
Expect 1-2 short papers due every week. Yes it's a lot, but it certainly avoids having to write 12 at once at the end of the semester. Kreger is one of few who will NOT disclose his personal beliefs and encourages open discussions. Easy work as long as you do it. He offers extra credit & is easily approachable if any extensions are needed.
No better professor than Kreger
best teacher to take. would recommend taking him
Great guy. I enjoyed being his student
Good professor, very well respected and knowledgeable.
Professor Kreger is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and is always providing feedback and willing to help. He wants everyone to be successful and you can see that from day one.
Breaks assignments down easily, and also gives a week between assignments(sometimes more) to hand them in. His mini-lectures are actually worth listening to, because you will be applying them for all your classes. He is well-spoken, humble when teaching, and gifted in engaging the class with topics that actually matter in the real world.
This professor was great to have as my first morning class. He's able to show interest in the topics and give information without any biased opinions. Just facts. While much of the material is course specific, important fundamentals are taught that can be applied to all classes. Really a great professor and very easy to connect with. Recommended!
Really nice guy. Enjoyed his class and listening to what he has to say. Papers are assigned weekly. His papers requires some research and time, but he is a fair grader.
Really enjoyed the course and it's content along with all the history surrounding the subject!
Professor Kreger is dedicated to his students, and it is reflected in the time he takes to ensure you understand the material. He is not your average, read chapter this through that type of professor, he doesn't even use a book. His lecture is all on a powerpoint and meaningful discussions. You just need to be present and participate. Worth it!
This was the best class I will ever have. There were many papers, but grading criteria was very clear, and you're given plenty of time to complete work. You bring your papers to him & he hands them back with constructive feedback. He's efficient with grading & accessibility. He cares about the future of us & is respectful & very open-minded.
Mr. Kreger is an excellent teacher. He always gives such inspirational lectures and each class is filled with lots of useful information. He is extremely funny and I always looked forward to each class. The class gave me great information to help plan my career and my future. If you participate and complete your assignments it's an easy class.
Professor Kreger was definitely my favorite educator by far this semester. You can tell he's really passionate about what he does, and has no problem making time for students who may not understand the task. Very easy to succeed in his class as long as you participate and do the assignments! I hope to get the privelage of having him again! :)
By far one of the coolest teachers I have ever had. Brings up cool concepts that further discussion. He does no dismay the facts and is very clear with his instruction.
AMAZING!
After taking the class, not only did I retain the information a year later, and refer back to what I've learned over this last year (because it applies SO much to life), but by the end of the class, I didn't know if Professor Kreger was religious/not religious and conservative/liberal. I shouldn't have taken that for granted, I appreciate him!!
Does an exceptional job presenting valuable, practical information in a manner which is applicable to both Sociology and life at large. Places an emphasis on methods of analysis rather than rote memorization, so that skills learned within his class may be transferred to all facets of life. Hence, grading is somewhat based on your analytical skills
My first professor as a high schooler taking my college course for credit. His class is easy to understand if attending lecture and fun when participating and engaging. A paper every week or two roughly but exams are not hard if listening to lecture. Id love take his classes again if possible.
Professor Kreger is caring, hilarious, and overall an outstanding professor. I enjoyed his class very much. From the lectures and discussions to the papers, Professor Kreger has taught me everything I need to know about Cultural Anthropology. I highly recommend Professor Kreger to everyone for Cultural Anthropology. I wish I could write more!
Professor Kreger was very patient and he made sure we understood what we were doing and he gave us assignments to show how we understood the topic. He took his time in teaching us. Thank you for being patient with us. It seemed hard at first but once i understood it got easier and I will use what I learned in this class. Thank you, professor.
Professor Kreger was one of the best professors Ive ever had. You can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. His class was very interactive and discussion based, so it was easy to understand the material. Would definitely take another class with him again.
Professor Kreger is one of the best teachers I have had at NCC. He cares about a students understanding of topics and will help them whenever they need it. Our lectures are very attentive which makes the exams and papers super easy to get an A on all you have to do is show up.
This class is one of my easier classes but if you are not the type to write multiple papers, this class may not be for you. I thoroughly enjoyed the class as it taught me how to write a good research paper and learning about cultural values. He is a good professor if you care about the subject and engage in it.
Prof. Kreger is a passionate professor with a love for what he teaches to an almost radical degree. He does everything he can to facilitate student interaction & engagement in Anthropology. If you have the chance, I recommend him for every student.
This professor makes sure you understand the topic that is being taught in their class. They are attentive and willing to help. It is hard to fail their class if you put any noticeable effort that shows that you want to learn.
Professor Kreger was awesome! Every lecture was super interesting, and our class had countless valuable discussions throughout the semester. I always looked forward to his class because he knows how to make learning fun and engaging in creative ways! He is respectable, professional, and clearly very passionate about what he teaches. Thank you!
Hey cares greatly about his students and giving you the proper education you deserve. He is understanding, and will work with you to help you succeed. Highly recommend his classes.
I took Professor Kreger for Sociology and enjoyed the lectures so much so, that I took Cultural Anthropology. There are mainly writing assignments and only two exams. Grading criteria are so incredibly simple. I would recommend attending lectures given course material is not online. However, Kreger does his best to accommodate students' needs.
Prof. Kreger is very intelligent and teaches with great passion. He is very innovative and engaging. In some ways he is quite genius. Lecture time is shared with discussion. He wants you to succeed. Extra credit is available. His delivery of material is true to anthropology, I sensed no bias, objective, or agenda. I highly recommend this class.
One of the best classes Ive taken. I've never been a good writer but after this class I learned so much in terms of learning how to write papers properly and how to analyze my information given to me. If I didn't know something Professor Kreger always knew how to help with every situation. He is one of those professors that is def for the students.
Kreger's class was, without a doubt, the best class I have had thus far in my college experience. He encourages class engagement and interaction while tying seemingly tangential discussions into the main curriculum in a way that makes learning not just interesting, but fun. You will have to write a lot of essays, so be prepared!
Joshua Kreger is one of my favorite professors I've had so far. Everything you need to know, he will tell you, and he is very clear on what he wants you to do when papers/homework is assigned. He also doesn't take away your ability to be a free-thinker in class, but will mostly keep you on track with the topic at hand. Ultimately, he's great.
Professor Kreger is definitely one of my favorite professors here at NCC. He does assign a lot of papers but they're usually between 2-4 pages. He isn't a tough grader if he sees you're trying you'll get a good grade. Come to class and pay attention and you'll do just fine. He genuinely cares about his students and is overall a great person.
Professor was amazing, if you don't want political views from the professor in the classroom, get this professor. He did a great job explaining the curriculum and he obviously knew what he was teaching to the students. Just be prepared for an essay every week but don't let that be the reason you don't go to this class, he's great.
Absolutely fabulous professor. The concepts contained in the course were broken down so they were easy to understand, and Prof. Kreger went outside of the standard curriculum to include topics that were supplementary to the course. He was engaging and animated, and I looked forward to class every week. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Professor Kreger is a fair professor who cares about his students he taught me more about the world than any other class I have taken. His papers are clear and concise and are pretty easy going from 2 pages to about 5 but a majority of them are 2 pages.
He's a good professor and gets back to you when you message him. Just keep up with the papers and pay attention to the lectures. If you are struggling, be sure to talk with him.
Very understanding and definitely wants to see his students succeed !
He has amazing lectures that really make you think and he truly wants you to succeed in his class. Its not hard to pass at all as long as you participate and do his papers and small assignments. I loved it!
Among the best teachers. You learn, rather than memorize and regurgitate info. I looked forward to deep conversation, and to sharing my knowledge. Concepts are applicable to daily life, and are paramount to individual and communal well-being. He is considerate of personal matters, and goes above and beyond to ease your nerves and keep you engaged.
Absolutely a great professor, very willing to work with you. I learned so much from his class and had a great time.
excellent professor. I highly recommend you go to class notes are not accessible outside of class but as long as you go and pay attention, you definitely will pass.
He is very caring, and guaranteed you will learn lot from him
Professor's approach urged me to dig deeper into subjects, emphasizing research & critical thinking over shallow sources. His unwavering commitment to truth & passion for teaching left a lasting impact. My essays improved significantly, thanks to his thought-provoking assignments. Prepare to take notes & engage in vibrant class discussions.
Such a great professor!! I enjoyed being a student to one of the very few professors who actually care. He does rely on participation and is heavy with research papers, which are fairly easy. I had him for sociology and being that it's my first year I enjoyed him being my professor. He cares about each students future and is very understanding!
Great professor! Very opened minded, very understanding and very kind.
Would highly recommend you will learn a lot about history and modern society the lectures are fun and entertaining.
Explains topics in depths and helps guide you to succeed in the class.
Pay attention and you will learn a lot more than cultural anthropology. Professor Kreger is passionate about his subject and cares about creating curiosity and critical thinking skills.
Really good professor, highly recommend taking his class. His lectures are engaging and easy to follow, he takes his time to explain things if a topic is not making sense and gives a lot of examples! This has been by far one of the best classes I have taken at Northampton.
Kreger's obvious interest in anthropology makes the lectures fascinating. Class participation is a must. So are notes (for exam prep). A lot of papers, but he tries to assign topics that will allow you to show what you've learned, which means, you know, you learn.
if you are hate writing papers, don't take this class, if you want a competent teacher who encourages people to learn from each other? than this is the class for you, also, if you like interaction heavy classes then this is also the class for you i had to withdraw from this class due to my subpar grades, but I still immensely enjoyed his class.
Professor Kreger was well versed anthropology and made the class very fun. It was a safe space where any topic could be discussed without any fighting and debates were encouraged. I would not recommend for anyone that does not like writing papers especially the writing intensive course. I have not finished yet but would highly recommend.
Doesn't use a textbook, show up to class, take notes. Everyone has the ability to get an A.
In my opinion, Joshua Kreger was an amazing professor. He gave us informative information about how cultures work. He gave us clear instructions on how to work on our assignments, and what notes to use for studying. Being a student who has a 504 in place, I felt as though he was considerate and fair towards my understanding of the assignments.
Professor Kreger is a great professor because of his desire for student to learn and genuinely leave with something students can use in their lives. I admire his hard work and his knowledge on a wide range of things. He taught me to question everything and I am grateful I had him as my professor.
He assigned papers every week but at a maximum of three page papers, and as long as you had the correct formatting, work cited, and wrote the paper on what he was looking for, his grading was efficient. He also was always available if any help or questions needed to be addressed. I would highly recommend him for any future student!
This class is enjoyable with a lot of discussion, showing up matters! If you're writing intensive, expect to write more, we had papers due and assigned every week. Overall, communication and showing you care is important for any questions about assignments or guidelines :)
Professor Kreger truly cares about his students. His course material allowed us to learn, review, and apply the concepts to real life topics which in my opinion, really allowed me to fully grasp the material. Even though you have to write a bunch of papers for this course, they aren't that heavy and you can apply any idea you want if you ask first.
Great lectures, very in depth information when necessary. Answers questions with much care and insight. As long as you show up pay attention/take notes, it can be a very easy class. Many papers but only average in length of 3 pages per.
I needed this course to fulfill my writing intensive credit. Kreger is very well spoken and passionate in what he teaches, he cares. Attendance matters as it is a lecture heavy class for exams. Participation makes the class a fun learning environment. Would definitely recommend this class and take this professor again for another class.
Takes time going over each topic to make sure his students really understand it and get the most out of each lesson. He also explains what is expected with each assignment clearly and works with his students the best he can do they can succeed.
I would take this class again if I had the chance, it seemed very difficult in the beginning but got easier throughout the semester, and very understanding professor.
Looking for a professor who values balance, workload, and fairness, look no further. Professor Kreger's teaching style is unique and effective, presenting material clearly and engagingly. The syllabus provides all the guidance needed for success. This course has equipped me with valuable skills that will support my academic and professional growth.
He is an awesome professor and the simulation he puts out is really cool and i recommend doing it because it makes you look forward to class. He does make you write a lot but however the prompts are pretty simple. 10/10 class
This profesor is unique and the way he teaches is very interesting and informative!
Professor Kreger is a great professor who loves his craft. The way he teaches inspires you to want to do better. He extensively drilled on getting good sources on any research being done and using reasoning and evidence to support your views and values. Overall, it was a great learning experience. Would take another course with him.
Yes, there was a decent amount of papers but he is truly passionate about what he teaches and shows the true story and meaning behind each lesson. If I could I would take the class again!
Professor Kreger is a very mindful teacher on the aspect of him wanting the best for his students and to take what is taught in class to use in the real world. This class is mandatory for attendance and it is best if you participate for better class discussion to benefit yourself. I would highly recommend this class, Kreger is a great professor!
Professor Kreger is one of the BEST! His lectures were amazing, his simulation was so much fun! He is absolutely passionate about his students and challenges you to do your best.
One of the best Professors at Northampton. Professor Kreger is there to help you understand and has a genuine desire to see you succeed. He is a gift to his institution.
Well read and brilliant teacher.
Professor Kreger was a pretty cool dude. His classes are very lecture and discussion-based. He really enjoys this subject, and you can tell that he is very passionate and knowledgeable. Although it is very essay-based, most weeks he will assign some sort of essay, but as long as you listen and follow his instructions, you will have no problem.
Probably my favorite class for this entire semester.
He was one of two of my favorite professors this semester. He doesn't judge you for any questions you ask and encourages curiosity and doing your own research. He wants you to thrive and do good in his class. He does assign you at least one paper a week but as long as you know what you are doing, you are fine. If you dont, you can always reach out.
Kreger was an absolutely fantastic professor, he was exactly what I was looking for. He helped to give everyone a new perspective of the world. This class was incredibly enlightening, and I learned a lot about many new cultures current and past. This class does require effort, you're gonna have to write and pay attention, but it's very worth it.
Professor Kreger is a valid professor that allowed me to see things from a different perspective. He taught us how to view things unbiased and write about them. While he did assign a lot of papers, they were not too difficult and it really help me get better at researching and writing. He is funny, I would def take him again
He's amazing and I would 100% take the class again just for fun! Taught me to see different angles and perspectives while staying informed and unbiased.
Professor Kreger is a very interesting one. His lectures are very engaging and insightful, he trys to teach you the fundamentals that you need to be a rational thinker and to find research beyond just a simple answer. He does not care for attendence but does like participation. He also assigns a good amount of papers so be prepared for that!
Professor Kreger is an excellent teacher who is focused on improving the critical thinking skills necessary for college students. Very paper heavy but that isn't a problem if you do the research and properly cite your sources. His best quality is remaining unbiased in such a heavily politicized topic such as culture and his lectures are engaging.
Kreger is a spectacular professor who able to convey topics effectively. Despite the abundance of papers, which is the only non test graded work, these analyses do help you understand topics better. His lectures and educational and stimulated. Overall a great class and a wonderful professor.
Participating in the class goes a long way! There's a lot of papers, but I learned a lot from the assignments. Also, the extra credit opportunities really helped get my grade up!
Professor Kreger is easily one of the best I've had. Super engaging and informative lectures, you learn so much. He's a funny guy, and he gives out tons of extra credit. There's a list of movies/books/games, and if you finish them and analyze them, you get bonus points. Lotta papers, but they have engaging subjects. Really lenient with grading, too
Incredible professor. There is NEVER a dull moment in his lectures, and I received an overall better/sharpened understanding of humanity, society, and even myself regarding where I fit into all of it. Kreger has a great sense of humor, shows concern/care when needed, and is very likable as both a professor and a person.
Professor Kreger is a passionate and skilled educator whose class was an enriching experience. I recommend anyone take classes with him at NCC if they get the chance.
I cannot stress this enough, take his class! Professor Kreger truly allows for a safe environment for learning and talking about some maybe touchy topics. He is willing to help with papers (with enough notice), open for discussion, and his grading is fair. Again, don't miss out, take the class and be sure to participate!
