Prof. Kritzer started at Tufts about a year ago? He uses lots of corny jokes, slides and rushes thru material as if we already knew it. Tough class.
Prof Kritzer knows his stuff and really enjoys teaching. Lectures are interesting and engaging and he tries to keep it entertaining too. Lots of work but definitely worth it.
Too many slides and tells jokes at 8 AM that are not that funny. Tough class but enjoyable.
Good teacher. the only problem is that he uses way too many slides. Makes the lectures go quickly but the main point is lost ...
Toooooooooo many slides. Rush thru material.Pls take time to explain and ask qeustions.
Nice lctures but the exam grading was awful. I dont know if it was the TA's fault but too many errors on exams that were so, so easy
Prof. Kritzer puts a ton of work into his classes and if you put in the work as well you will learn a lot of biochemistry.
Class runs at too fast a pace. Clarity lost sometimes because of that. Slow down and pay attention to the students.
He has a great personality! Super clear lectures.
Clear that he's super passionate about orgo, and that made all the difference; he incited the same passion in his students. Orgo is difficult, but with Kritzer, it was (almost) fun. Great class.
Kritzer is an amazing professor. But there is a lot of leg work involved to actually apply what he teaches.
Kritzer is a really great professor and highly recommended for any chemistry/biochemistry course. His lectures are helpful and he gives plenty of resources to succeed. Orgo is tough, but with hard work you can definitely do well. He is also very helpful at office hours. Attendance wasn't mandatory but his lectures were clear and useful.
He is super responsive and wants to help you learn.
Organic chemistry will consume your life, but Kritzer's accessibility and passion for the material make it almost okay.
Kritzer is a good professor. He's engaging in lectures and has a lot of good insight. Teaches the important stuff, leaves out unnecessary fluff. Textbook is really good too. Definitely a lot of time outside of class doing problems. Tests/quizzes/grading are fair
Kritzer is the man. His class isn't easy, but his enthusiasm for the material he teaches is contagious and he truly cares how well his students learn the material. I can't imagine having taken Orgo without him.
I wish Kritzer taught all my classes! He's very clear, very thorough and very accessible outside of class. He definitely makes sure you have the tools to succeed, but you will have to work for it! The class definitely moves as a fast pace, but I don't know if that can be helped with organic chemistry.
Kritzer is a caring and articulate teacher. He is very dedicated to explaining concepts fully and in a way that makes them accessible. Organic chemistry is not easy, so if you're not willing to do the work then you won't enjoy anything about the class. If you come ready to work and dig in, though, I guarantee you'll appreciate him and learn a lot.
Great lecturer! Very clear and concise, and obviously incredibly knowledgeable. Slides are very well thought out and systematic, bringing you step-by-step to the solutions and reasoning. The course in itself is fair and okay in difficulty. As long as you don't slack and keep things fresh in your head, you should be able to succeed.
During each class, slides were annotated by the professor with a tablet using all sorts of magical colors. It was nice. But more usefully, these slides really captured key ideas and proved a crucial tool when studying for tests. Professor Kritzer is one of the most accessible professors due to his use of a question and answer tool.
Prof. Kritzer is one of the best professors I have so far in Tufts. He asks you to understand rather than remember most materials. His way of teaching makes organic chemistry a lot more intimidating to me. Though the materials are difficult and require real hard work, it is good to have Kritzer to teach you these stuff.
Kritzer is honestly an amazing professor who is incredibly passionate about chemistry and really wants his students to enjoy it as much as he does. He is super personable and interactive and makes orgo fun. Definitely one of the best professors that I have ever had, and by far the best professor in the chem department!
Kritzer is amazing. Lectures are great, he takes good notes on his slides and he is just the best chemistry professor one could ask for. I would take anything he teaches.
Great teacher. Go to class, read the textbook, go to recitation, do the questions of the day, and you will be fine. He is very good at explaining mechanisms, and cares about you doing well. Take Kritzer!
Absolutely my favorite professor so far at Tufts! He is incredibly engaging and makes such an intimidating class much more approachable. He also seems to care so much about us! If you must take orgo, take it with him.
Kritzer does as good a job as he possibly can, given the large amount of course material he needs to get through and the massive class sizes. His slides do a good job introducing material and especially explaining the concepts behind the material so that it doesn't all feel like memorization. His mid-lecture questions are also helpful for learning.
One of the best professors I've had at Tufts! This class was a huge amount of work, but such is the nature of organic chemistry. Professor Kritzer made it as enjoyable as it could be. I went into the class hating chemistry after gen chem, but came out loving it.
Kritzer - fantastic lecturer with very clear expectations that are laid out for you for the class (and you'll know what "Kritzer don't care" about). Although orgo is known as THE pre-med weeder class, this class doesn't feel like a weeder class thanks to Kritzer's class set up. Honestly, this course was more understandable than general chemistry.
One of the best professors I've had at Tufts! Lectures are super straightforward and interesting. He also plays music before the lectures, which I thought was a nice touch. Organic Chemistry is known for being a tough class but if you do all of the optional practice he provides you'll do fine!
He was an incredible professor. Organic chemistry is generally considered one of the bear classes of any STEM major, but he made it both easy and straightforward. His lectures are well organized and cohesive, homework is a strong indicator of test difficulty. Overall he is very patient, passionate and if you need help he is excellent.
Kritzer is AMAZING! Every lecture was so engaging, and I honestly had fun taking Organic Chemistry (which I would have never ever expected). Slides are super helpful, expectations are super well laid out, and he genuinely cares about his students. Go to lecture and use his practice materials, and the class is totally doable!
Kritzer is the best professor I have ever had. Organic chemistry is a daunting class, but he makes it manageable. He loves chemistry and is excited to share his passion. He is incredibly accessible on Piazza and during office hours. It's a hard class, no doubt, but Kritzer made me love orgo. I really hope I get to take another class with him!
Read the textbook before the lectures and do what he tells you to do, and if you need help go to his office hours. Orgo is hard, but if you're going to take it you should take it with Kritzer. You might not get an A, but you'll actually learn and you'll have one of the best professors. This guy was meant to teach!
I was soo happy taking Orgo 1 with Kritzer! He made class quite enjoyable and his lectures combined with Klein readings (the textbook was also surprisingly great) taught me an immense amount of interesting material. He provides alot of tools for you to do well in this class, you just gotta but in the hard work.
To Mama Kritzer: Professor Kritzer is doing a great job, you should be proud!! Kritzer is fun to listen to, relatable, and makes orgo as seamless as it could be. His impressive 30 min Piazza response time shows how much he cares and how willing he is to help. Would definitely recommend using the textbook as a learning aid (its amazing).
Truly the best science professor I've ever had. Really wants his students to understand the material and do well, even though there was close to 300-400 of us! I was pretty unconfident in my science ability after chem 1/ 2, but Kritzer made me confident that I can actually do science. He's always willing to help, super intelligent, just the best!
The greatest professor that I have ever had. He had extremely interesting lectures and I was always intrigued. He helped to making Organic Chemistry interesting and fun. He was always accessible and easy to talk to when need be. Really cared about the students and their success.
i was super nervous about orgo but he's a great guy and made it as easy as possible
Orgo has a scary reputation and Kritzer does a phenomenal job of changing that around. As long as you keep up with the work, the class is genuinely not that bad. There are a ton of practice tests, problems done in class, and explanations to do just fine. If you keep up with the quizzes they become free points and they make you stay up to date.
Really great lecturer. He knows how to explain concepts in easy to grasp ways, such that attending lecture is more valuable than thoroughly reading the textbook. Exams are fair and there are plenty of practice materials. With him, Orgo is NOT scary. Chem was much more difficult.
Professor Kritzer is literally the best professor I've ever had. He's incredibly smart and good at teaching organic chemistry. Obviously orgo is hard, but Kritzer's enthusiasm for the subject is contagious. He really wants his students to succeed. If all professors were like Kritzer learning in college would be so much better.
Professor Kritzer is the best professor I've had at Tufts. A lot of people are so fearful of organic chemistry, but he makes the class as interesting as possible to every student. He answers questions on Piazza in 15 minutes max, and his office hours are great. You have to work hard, but you are provided all of the resources you need to do well!
Professor Kritzer works INCREDIBLY hard for his students and I'm so happy he was my introduction to orgo. The material is super hard but he truly goes above and beyond to provide resources for students. Makes me happy I came to this school.
1. Piazza is a lifesaver and all professors should do this too. 2. Nicest professor ever and I thought I already met all the awesome ones but apparently I was wrong 3. Organic chemistry changed my life 4. ATTEND RECITATION, PREVIEW LECTURE! REVIEW DAILY 5. This class will require lots of work and you might "fail" but IT IS OKAY!
Kritzer is the one of the best professors at Tufts. Taking organic chemistry with him was a great experience. Lectures are very helpful and he provides tons of resources to excel in the course. His way of teaching makes it easy to grasp the challenging material. If you intend to take organic chemistry at some point, Take it with Kritzer.
An excellent professor. He goes fast, so it is helpful to look at the material before lecture. If you do and are able to keep up, he makes the material very accessible and interesting. Exams and grading is very fair, as is the course overall.
Great professor and even greater person. He genuinely cares about how you're feeling/doing in the class. A testament to how hard he works to help his students succeed: he responds to piazza questions faster than my friends reply to my texts. In all seriousness, orgo is challenging but there's no better prof to take orgo with than Kritzer!
Kritzer is a great lecturer -- he is very funny and explains things in a way that is very easy to grasp, even if they aren't. There are also plenty of practice materials to prepare for exams.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!! He made organic chem so much less daunting and his lectures were soo organized and fun! I always looked forward to his class. He is very caring and jokes too and very approachable. You can talk to him about anything and he will understand you!! Def take his class.
Kritzer is the best professor I've had at Tufts, in the most daunting course I've taken. He's so caring, gives a ton of time/energy to students, and is a super fair professor. The class requires a lot of time/energy, but is really manageable (and possible to do well in!) if you can put in that time. The lab sucks, but that's not his fault
Dr. Kritzer is one of the top profs at Tufts. He is passionate and knowledgeable and is a good teacher. Most professors profess, but Dr. Kritzer is a true TEACHER. He is constantly looking for feedback and working to tailor his course to his students needs. Has high (but reasonable) expectations. I love chemistry and he made organic the best.
I love Dr. Kritzer! He truly cares about the wellbeing of his students and is always looking for ways to help them do better. He made orgo fun for me, which I definitely wasn't expecting to happen!
I'm a freshman and did really well without opening the book. That's how good his lectures are. Office hours and recitations were super helpful. Soooo many practice exams, just doing them all was more than enough studying. If you don't have to take the lab at the same time or at all, DON'T because it actually doesn't even remotely compare to CHEM51.
Kritzer is honestly an incredible human being who really cares about his students. I absolutely love orgo because of him
In a lecture class, it is easy to feel lost, esp in OChem. Kritzer's dedication is unmatched. He is one the most kindest, understanding, and intelligent professors you will ever have. Never once did he lose my attention in a 75 min lecture about chem (a huge feat). You must take a class with him. Orgo is hard, but he makes it easier to learn.
This man needs to be teaching Orgo 2. I understand he must be doing important research on his own, but his incredible teaching talent shouldn't go to waste!
love him
Kritzer was my favorite professor I've ever had. I was really nervous going into organic chemistry since it's notoriously very difficult. However, Kritzer cares so much about his students and wants them to succeed. I decided to major in biochem because of this class.
Maybe the best teacher I have ever had
Kritzer is one of the most caring professors on campus! This class makes organic chemistry easy and it's because of the systematic approach that Kritzer takes towards the class and how each topic builds on the next.
Professor Kritzer is really one of a kind. You can feel that he cares about his students and really presents the material in a way that is accessible to all. Not an "easy A" but if you put in the work, you can do well in this class. His office hours are very helpful and he is great about responding to questions online.
Kritzer is probably the best professor I have had to date. He takes a difficult class and makes it interesting and manageable (his dad jokes, puns and memes are much appreciated). The tests are difficult and heavily weighted but as long as you keep up with the material you should be alright. But do NOT fall behind!!! It will make it so much harder.
Kritzer is the definitely a great asset to the Chem department at Tufts. Exceptional lecturer, very down to earth, and makes great dad jokes. Your grade is almost entirely exam based, but the exams are fair. Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had, and doubt the best professor I've had so far at Tufts.
Professor Kritzer will tell you on the first day that he will teach you things that are important and he kept that promise. He makes organic chemistry very entertaining and much less intimidating and is really supportive and caring. As long as you put in the work and pay attention during lectures, you will do great!
Professor Kritzer is incredibly engaging, and he knows how to make organic chemistry a class that is not something you need to dread. He provides great and numerous resources for you to find your own success!
His lectures are great, but his notes and online materials are also so good that missing a lecture won't screw you in the long run
Makes Orgo fun which is surprising
Professor Kritzer is caring and passionate about Orgo . Though it is a tough class, Kritzer makes it feel manageable with a consistent and organized class structure combined with an engaging lecture. His quizzes and "Questions of The Days", weekly problem sets, help you stay on top of the material making studying for exams less daunting.
Made me like Chem again.
Professor Kritzer is the best professor I have had at Tufts and possibly in my life. He truly cares about his students and is so passionate about the material that his excitement makes the class engaging and fun. I did not expect to love organic chemistry but he makes it less intimidating and actually interesting and applicable!!
Orgo has a bad reputation and going into it I was fully expecting it to be the worst class I have taken to date. He is as clear as it gets in explanations and expectations. Refreshing coming off of gen chem. He received a voluntary standing ovation by college students at the end of the semester so that should tell you all you need to know
Not only is he a great professor, but he is an amazing person. If you get the chance to have him as a professor, TAKE IT.
The most well organized and caring professor I could have asked for while taking the most dreaded class to ever exist. I could not imagine taking this course with anybody but Kritzer. He tells you exactly what you need to know and makes it as interesting as it can get. He loves his cat Cookie and will remind you about it weekly! Love him!
Yes, organic chemistry is one of the hardest science classes. But, Prof. Kritzer is an amazing professor, and he truly cares about each and every one of his students. He is constantly incorporating our feedback to improve the course, ex: cutting out material so we could move at a slower pace, etc. Must take!!!
Professor Kritzer's organic chemistry class ended up being my favorite class I have ever taken. He is an extremely reasonable, caring, and accessible person and will do the best he can within his ability to make sure all his students succeed in his class. I cannot recommend Professor Kritzer enough for any class taken at Tufts.
Professor Kritzer is amazing. His lectures are so helpful and engaging. The course is very structured (exams, quizzes, weekly homework) and requires a lot of time but every assignment is purposeful and really does help you stay on track. As someone who dreaded taking organic chemistry, he truly made the experience enjoyable.
Love Kritzer. Very thankful to have him as a professor. Amazing at explain things, extremely kind. When students ask questions on Piazza (anonymous/nonanonymous online q and a website for professors to answer questions), he always goes above and beyond with his explanations. If you are reading this, thank you Prof. Kritzer
Professor Kritzer is so passionate about organic chemistry and it rubs off on his students. I really enjoyed his class and became really interested in organic chemistry after taking it! Super communicative, easy to reach outside of class by email or Piazza, down-to-earth, and funny professor.
I'm so grateful to have Professor Kritzer for this course. He teaches organic chemistry in a way that's easy to understand and his quizzes/exams are pretty much what you would expect them to be. He's also kind, reasonable, and accommodating, pretty much all you could want from a professor.
Had Kritzer for Organic Chem last semester (Spring 2022). He was absolutely amazing, offered online lecture recordings if you were sick, & was an extraordinarily caring and helpful teacher. The class was quite difficult regardless, and you need to work very hard to succeed, but Kritzer was accessible, considerate, and definitely the best Orgo prof.
So far the best science professor I met in Tufts. Nice and kind, always prepared for questions and reply on canvas very often. The weekly quiz is kind of stressful and there are 4 exams per semester; however if you prepare well it would not be a problem since he would try to help everyone to get a fine grades
Professor Kritzer is an incredibly engaging professor and made organic chemistry seem fun. He explained the reasoning behind the concepts, making the content much easier to think through than just memorizing. He provided many old exams for practice and was quick with Piazza responses. I would take every course with him if I could.
Kritzer makes organic chemistry enjoyable. He is so nice and approachable. His exams are easy to study for and predictable.
Prof. Kritzer is great. He makes organic chemistry understandable and enjoyable. His lectures can be difficult to follow, however they are not mandatory as he posts the recordings and annotated slides. He is a relatively easy grader and his tests are very predictable.
he is so sweet and understanding but this material is not for the weak. so be prepared
Such a great professor breaks down the material in a super logical way. He explains things in such detail and takes time to make sure students actually understand. Material is hard, but he makes it manageable.
I cannot stress enough how much I love professor Kritzer. I will admit that it took me almost the entire semester to get fully used to his class style, but he is one of the kindest, sweetest, and most engaging professors I have had. He genuinely cares about his students and loves his job. You do need to put in the work to learn content, though.
Prof. Kritzer is an incredible person and teacher! The content of the course may seem daunting at first, but he provides ample opportunities and resources to practice the material or ask questions as necessary. Take his class, enjoy his endless handcrafted memes, and don't be afraid to ask him or the TAs for help.
Kritzer is one of the best professors I've had at Tufts so far. He is a great lecturer and makes organic chemistry pretty easy. He is very accessible outside of class on piazza and office hours, and on top of all that his real work is pretty awesome and it is a cool opportunity to get to take an intro class with him.
Professor Kritzer is the one of the best professors I've had during my time at Tufts. Very helpful and accessible for questions! Such a great lecturer and explains organic chem concepts perfectly!!!!
great professor! very accessible outside the classroom and elucidates concepts very clearly! 10/10 memes. His pre-lecture playlist is also a 10/10!
Terrible. Does not care about students or their success! He likes orgo, but doesn't like students. I have worked with him the entire semester, and he has only ever made me feel worse, and recommended the same one size fits all approach the entire time, even when I told him it wasn't working.
My glorious king Kritzer. Best professor I've had here. Class is fast paced and material covered each lecture is dense but weekly QotD HW problems are fairly easy and straightforward. Heavy on exams but very easy to prep for as he gives 5 practice exams for each.
Best professor I've had at Tufts! Knowledgeable and wants you to succeed. 3 exams, 6 quizzes, 1 final, lots of opportunities for you to do well through homework. He makes organic chemistry understandable, lectures were packed but he provided SO many practice problems. Fast-paced and content-heavy. Kind, understanding, and very accessible (Piazza!!)
Kritzer is one of the nicest and most caring professors at Tufts. His lectures can be difficult to follow, but he always posts the recordings and annotated slides to review. His tests are predictable as they are reflective of the practice exams and QotDs. He is accessible outside of class through piazza. Defiantly take a class with him!
Professor Kritzer is one of the most engaging and caring professors at Tufts. While the material can be dense, his lectures and Piazza support make it manageable. The weekly assignments and practice exams really help with prep. Unstuck study was a game-changer for my studying.
Interjecting through the cloud of CHEM51 for a three-thumbs up rec for CHEM176. Wonderful discussion-based class covering the application of everything from introductory Chem courses. Ends on a unique (and necessary!) unit -- at least in the natural sciences -- on systemic racism/bias in research, one of my favorite units, three hands down.
Weekly units divided between a lecture class and a day discussing weekly reading response questions (based on 3-4 papers). The material covered can be challenging, but the class structure is not. Kritzer is a FANTASTIC professor who cares deeply about his students. A unique and refreshing class in the chemistry department. (doable without biochem)
Great class
Professor Kritzer is amazing. He is extremely knowledgeable about all chemical biology topics, and I learned a lot from him. He was very accessible outside of class and provided great feedback for the final project. I would definitely recommend taking this course with him!
