Dr. Melko has a love for chemistry, and seems to enjoying helping you understand it. He leaves no excuses for not doing well by giving you plenty of resources. He always has an open door as long as he is on campus. Respectable guy. Also, a great lab instructor.
Melko is an awesome teacher. Heading in to P Chem can be a little intimidating but Melko is there for you. One of the best teachers regarding office hours and helping you out with problems if needed. Tests can be ehhh. I gotta A-, B and B on the three midterms and the final didnt seem bad at all. Take him and you wont regret.
Dr. Melko gives lectures where he does several sample problems related to homework. He also helps out a lot in office hours with homework and lab reports, and does this even outside of office hours. He is also a great lab instructor. I would recommend anyone to take his class.
He can be a bit condescending. Go to class and do the homework. He will not give you specifics on what to focus on for exams. It can make the exams hard because they are cumulative. He did start giving reviews before the exam but said don't base the tests off of them. He is very willing to help if you need it.
Great Professor. Helpful in spite of the challenge of PChm
Melko is a great professor despite how hard chemistry is. Expect the exams to be tough and homework per chapter in the book to be assigned. Buy the textbook and READ, it will help you in the long run to pass his class.
Dr Melko is a good teacher. His lectures are clear and he gives clicker questions (easy credit towards your grade if you show up to class). I would take him again.
This professor was alright. Pretty sarcastic at times but whatever. He explains the material but in the long run you wind up teaching yourself. Book and mastering chem program needed.
Melko is what I would consider below average. Wouldn't necessarily take him again, I probably could've found a better professor if I looked more before choosing through word.
P-Chem 1 wasn't an easy class, but it's not on the professor to make a class easy. Dr. Melko is an amazing resource for students. It should go without saying that participation (attendance, doing homework, studying, etc.) is required - chemistry is no joke. He makes lecture fun and breaks down problems in a way that makes them easy to understand.
P-Chem 2 is no different than P-Chem 1, if only slightly easier. Dr. Melko makes it very clear what he expects on tests. He covers all material in class. Optional practice problems are assigned every day (DO THEM). His tests are very straightforward. Come to class, do practice problems, practice derivations, and you'll be fine. Would take again.
In the senior seminar course, students pick a faculty member to be their mentor for their semester-long project; I picked Dr. Melko. He took his mentor position very seriously for this course. He treats your project as seriously as any of his own projects by providing copious amounts of feedback and novel ideas. Put in work and you'll excel.
His exams and his grading are very tough, even for Pchem. He also plays favoritism toward students and very sarcastic in lectures. But he's helpful during office hours which is limited due to long lines of students. But do the homeworks and lectures and you'll pass.
Dr. Melko is a great lecturer. He puts his notes online and gives practice exams. Also lets students do practice questions in class. He is fantastic, but provides NO extra credit and the exams are difficult. An A is achievable, but you will have to put A LOT of time into the class- it is a tough subject.
Most of my problems were because I suck at chemistry. But he was really easy to understand. I haven't made more than the minimum 70% in Chemistry since high school and I made a B in this class. He always answered my emails within a few hours. HW problems showed up on tests so show up to class. He brought donuts and candy and coffee randomly.
He is very good. Mastering chemistry however is trash. Mastering also counts as part of your grade, i wish they would drop it from the university. He honestly makes it easy, but chem 2 isn't easy, especially if you dont practice. Most negative ratings are kids who didn't do any practice problems on their own and failed easy exams. Oh well. A+
Melko breaks everything down very well, he goes at a pace to where he makes sure everyone understands before moving on. You do not use a textbook but you use the access code for homework, you get one chapter assignment but have a week to do it. He includes all test dates in the syllabus but studying is easy because you get his old tests and many ex
Dr. Melko was a great professor. He was funny and made classes interesting. I'm terrible at chemistry so I always came to office hours. He was always patient and willing to help.
Homework is entirely online, assigned once the chapter is completed in class, and due a week later. Tests are all cumulative, though more heavy on the current unit. Dr. Melko does a great job explaining concepts and works out many practice problems in class. Clickers are required and used toward an attendance grade.
Amazing prof! He's really good at explaining all of the concepts and making sure you understand. Attendance is mandatory but you get 60 points for showing up to 16 classes and participating in questions. Super easy as long as you study and he gives tons of practice problems and practice exams so you can practice for the tests! 12/10 would recomend
I loved this class. He had his lectures posted on canvas. I barely used my book bc his PowerPoint was easy to understand. The hw is due the day you finish your chapter and it's not hard. I would take him again.
Professor is clear and goes over the material kinda fast but its understandable. Lots of study material, and hes provide practice problems over the material and Homework is a good review. Exams are easy because he provides practice problems over the material. Would take him again.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He takes his time per chapter, so everyone understands. There are clicker quizzes in class that arent mandatory but will help your grade IF YOU DO THEM (graded for participation). Test are simple but still a bit challenging. The course is not impossible. He is always helpful and he is pretty funny.
One of the best instructors I've ever had. He really cares for his students and is loaded with chemistry puns and jokes to keep lecture interesting, but you gotta work for the grade because his exams are fairly difficult. Do not skip class and beware of pop-quizzes; the homework and practice exams he provides help.
Professor Melko made this class fun and enjoyable. He posted everything you needed to know for the tests in great powerpoints that were online and identified things that would be on tests during the lectures repeatedly. He took time in class to identify what we should be able to do and made himself easily available if you needed help. Loved him.
By far the best prof I've ever had. It is really important to show up to class because his lectures are so beneficial and he really breaks everything down for you. Intro to chem with Melko has helped me tremendously with upper level chem classes and really set a good foundation for chemistry. Mastering chem homework on line and only a few easy test
Dr. Melko is the best chemistry professor I've ever had. The lectures that go with the PowerPoints are spot on and filled with just the right amount of information from the book. With some of his lectures he includes actual experiments showing characteristics of elements as well as videos that further demonstrate. Very hands for all learning styles
I've had a chem class before, so the class itself was very hard for me. However, I went to his office hours every week and he was very willing to help. He also does online streams and youtube videos. He makes really bad jokes in class that are so unfunny that they are funny. He's a really cool guy and is very knowledgeable, so I would take him.
Really great teacher and is accessible quite easily. He really knows what he's talking about teaches it very effectively. Melko is one of the few science chemistry teachers that tell you how it is in such a refined way that you just get it. Tests are fairly good and studying is quite easy.
He was my favorite professor so far and made everything so easy to understand! His lectures are awesome and has office hours that he is always willing to help you at. I wish I could have him as a teacher for all of my science classes. His homework is online and you need a clicker for the class to get participation points.
I took Dr. Melko for introduction to chemistry and he made the subject so much easier to understand. I had no previous knowledge of chemistry and his detailed lectures and online office hours helped me so much! The class is a bit challenging if you havent taken any chem before, but he is passionate and understand and wants you to pass!
The best Chemistry teacher I've ever had. Took his class at 9am and the lectures were easy to pay attention to, and we did lots of practice problems in class with clear steps that made sense. The one think that tripped me up was forgetting to convert units on the tests, but he warned us that the units would need conversions. Tell you what's on test
Dr. Melko is simply the best! His lectures are engaging, and not to mention entertaining. Also, he mainly uses Twitch for office hours, which is pretty cool! 4 exams and a final. If you study the powerpoints and the practice problems from lecture (not mandatory, but very useful), since chem 2 is very math intensive, then you should be fine!
The class started off fine up until Test 3 and 4 (there are 5 tests total) due to a HUGE lack of time for those two exams. I studied and went to SI nearly every evening including all 5 exam review sessions and still did not reach my desired grade. I suggest going to every SI session, every lecture, every class, and studying . It's difficult.
I would take Professor Melko if you have the choice for Chemistry 2. He made the course really simple and the exams were very straight forward. I attended SI which helped me get an A since the material was taught in a very simple manner which made lecture and tests easy.
I seriously don't think I would've been able to pass chemistry if I hadn't taken Professor Melko's class. It's super evident he wants everyone to succeed in his class & actually learn. He is really accessible outside of class & it has never taken him more than 10min. to answer an email, even at 9pm. By far the best professor I've had at UNF
He does make participation a grade, but its easy to get, asks a few questions, log on to his twitch live and you're good to go. He post MANY resources online, youtube videos(his own), his lecture slides which are thorough. His test are easy, just look over the slides and SI is helpful as well. He goes the extra mile to make sure his students pass
Prof Melko is a great Professor he really does try and teach you and explains Chemistry great
Melko is a good professor. His lectures are a little boring but very informative. He uses canvas so it always helps to go back and study on your own. The homework is really easy. His tests are very similar to his PP slides and examples so definitely study those. GO TO SI!! Attendance isn't necessary but I recommend going.
prof melko the best
I took him for both pchem 1 and 2. He's an awesome teacher but his tests are hard. His grading scale is not bad and its widely range so there's no chance of you failing his class, unless you don't study. I recommend studying for his exams like a week advance. Studying two days or a day before was not the best choice. He wants his students to pass.
Melko makes chemistry make sense. I actually decided to take his class for another chemistry class. The mastering homework is required so be prepared to spend the money on that, but if you have to take general chemistry 1 and general chemistry 2 and you choose the right option through mastering, you get the course for all those classes. Super nice.
His enthusiasm for this subject is amazing. I had to take it online due to COVID-19, but his lectures were still very engaging and he provided us with MANY resources to make sure we do well. You need to study for the exams, but once you do, they are simple. I highly recommend taking a class with Professor Melko, you won't regret it.
Professor Melko is amazing! Because of COVID-19 classes were done virtually. He assigned homework every week, due within a week. 4 exams, one of them being the final. For the homework it was very forgiving, but he stilled made it important to actually know the info. He replies super fast and does live reviews. He streams his lectures on twitch!
Melko is the best. I don't know how such an amazing professor ended up teaching intro chem but I am so thankful he is. He is really corny and childish but he really cares about his students and makes learning easy and fun. I have learned so much in this class because his lectures are so interactive. Easy hw, easy test. Cant say enough good things.
The idea of Chemistry made me so anxious but professor Melko did a fantastic job of providing resources to make sure you pass! A homework assignment is due every & 4 exams thru the semester. He explains chemistry so well and has such a positive energetic attitude. He also streams reviews and holds office hours through twitch. GREAT PROFESSOR 10/10.
The exams (4) are doable, but they are at a faster-pace because there are lots of questions (30 Q for the 3 exams and 45 Q for final). You are allowed to use notes on the exam, and he doesn't use HonorLock proctoring. In this class, you can get extra credit from the HW assignments, and he drops your lowest exam grade (could be the final exam).
One of the best professors by far I have taken. Dr. Melko is very passionate about what he is teaching and will make sure you understand the material. Chem 2 is already a pretty difficult course but he definitely made it easier, and genuinely wants everyone to pass. Do make sure to go to every lecture though so you understand the material.
Professor Melko is a great professor, I had him for intro to chemistry, and I'm very very bad at chemistry. He made a lot of difficult topics easier and taught the class in a clear and understandable way. Highly recommend!
Professor Melko streams on twitch for his lectures, which is refreshing! Class Structure: MyMathLab HW for each chapter, 4 Exams (None dropped), and a math quiz. Solid lecturer, but chemistry is ROUGH, so beware of the material. He also (MIGHT) provide an extra credit assignment for your class. He's fun and knows what he's doing!
Professor Melko is a solid choice for people who are comfortable with the subject. He does go over a lot of material in lectures, but he is accessible outside of class for questions. His tests are difficult, I would recommend studying a lot and going to SI. Homework due on the weekends through the textbook's online program. Hard, but manageable.
Melko is the best! His lectures are easy to understand and I don't normally do well in chemistry. You just have to practice and ask him if you don't understand. He doesn't grade by Canvas so count your points manually! I'd take him again :)
Prof Melko was amazing! All of his lectures are pre-recorded & on YouTube. He's very accessible, very funny, and explains things very well. Take notes, do your homework, ask questions when you need to, and you'll do just fine. He'll support you however he can. All quizzes/tests are open notes. He made a difficult class fun!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER, TAKE HIM IF YOU EVER GET THE OPTION. He is such a great teacher and assists students with anything they need and does great review sessions. The exams are difficult but open note when taken online. He is hilarious and has a great personality so you dont feel like you talking to a professor even though you are. TAKE HIS CLASS
MELKO IS LITERALLY THE GREATEST!!!! HE DOES RECORDED LECTURES OR YOU CAN JOIN THE LIVE LECTURES ON TWITCH. HE'S SUPER FUNNY AND CARING.
Melko is the best chem prof I've had so far. Never read the textbook & got everything I needed from his Powerpoints which had examples. He uses ALEKS, which keeps you on track. Exams are fairly easy considering the class and he will curve/allow test corrections if everyone scores lower than average. He made me actually understand chemistry.
Professor Melko is ALWAYS there to help you succeed!! He has great office hours and is responsive to emails. I enjoyed his lectures because despite the difficulty of the topic, he never failed to make jokes along the way. This is one of the most difficult college courses so you definitely need to do your part to learn the material!
Professor Melko took every opportunity to make fun jokes and assist students. I recommend him to anyone as I will be using his videos in the future as I take difficult chemistry courses. He does not give much work. I took an online class and it was entertaining to watch his videos, he made it easy to follow.
Aleks is what we used for hw. Got very hard at some points.Your grade consists of aleks and exams. Exams are very hard. I spent weeks studying and still would not pass. If chemistry does not come easy to you do not take him. His lectures are hard to understand and I learned more on Aleks. Melko is a good and funny guy so no disrespect.
prof melko has all his videos on youtube, they're fun to watch, easy to follow, and he's super kind and always sends out a weekly reminder/to-do. you watch the modules videos, take notes, and then take a quiz on the material. Exams are over 3-4 modules and aren't terrible.
Melko is very funny and care about his students. The subject he teaches is difficult, but he understands that not everyone gets it right away and is always willing to help. Stay on top and study, and as long as you do that, I say take him!
He was amazing. Very understanding and funny in class. General chemistry II is a hard class, but he made it the best it could be. He even brought donuts to our class one day. Overall, he is just a very nice, funny, and chill person who is very passionate and knowledgeable in the subject (and can teach it well).
He is nice and very knowledgeable. His lectures can go pretty fast definitely recommend studying a week prior to exams. He gives practice exams. He uses Aleks which can feel like a lot. Try to get ahead. Chem 2 in general is hard and involves some calculus. Math HEAVY!!!!!!! Do the aleks it is a grade saver !!!!!!
Melko was a good prof. Gen Chem II is HARD! So take any kind of help that is being given to you. Make study groups, go to SI, go to office hours, do practice problems. He does drop one exam grade which includes the final. There are Aleks assignments and a pie progress chart in which he includes as a grade which helps a lot. He goes fast tho lol!
Weekly assignment is a quiz(one attempt) lecture is on his youtube, detailed with examples questions. Test is similar to quizzes, and correlates with lectures. Not an easy course but he does well explaining and if you go to office hours he is very helpful! Find time to study on your own but he sets you up for success.
Melko was a good prof! He mostly lectured, but also gave practice problems, in-class worksheets (for practice), and practice tests that were a good representation of his tests. He was also a pretty funny guy! If you want to see his teaching style, look up Prof Melko on youtube to see his COVID lectures.
He is a really great professor, if you need help with anything he is very happy to help.
Literally amazing. 1. Literally has his own textbook with practice exams and answer keys (be fr) 2. youtube videos for lectures 3. amazing canvas setup ily melko
Professor Melko was an amazing instructor to kick off my first year in college. He loves what he does, likes to crack dad jokes, and makes a difficult course feel like a breeze. Be prepared to put in the effort, study well for exams, and take advantage of office hours and SI sessions. Highly recommend him!
Chemistry is generally a difficult subject (for me at least.) Be prepared to study! Prof Melko was overall amazing though. He truly cares about his students, emails back promptly, and is very flexible. He wants to see you do well so will help in any way he can to make sure you understand the material as well as work with you on deadlines.
I will say I did drop his class about 2 weeks into starting it but only because I realized I did not need it. Dr. Melko is a dad teacher. He cracks lots of jokes, he is very witty, but most importantly, he is a master of his subject. Lectures were honestly super boring but the material he gives online is very accurate to the test.
Having him as a prof made me want to do the work and do it well. Primarily because I often took advantage of his office hours (+SI) which were always super helpful and enjoyable. He knows how to accommodate&target the needs of each student he teaches. He's friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and funny. profmelk if you see this, don't be too flattered
Useful to attend lectures although not mandatory.
wonderful for understanding the basics. Everything is open note and timed. 3 exams, 1 final, and 12 hw assignments. Take him if you want to pass and learn
Professor Melko is great, he makes a difficult subject easier, and there is one book for the class that he asks that you get, it is a workbook with all different practice questions and tests.
I took him online, his lecture videos are very enjoyable, he explains everything very clearly. He also has open office hours for zoom so if you have any questions you could just join that! Def take him!!!
Very nice professor! Always available if you have any questions! His practice exams on his book are very similar to his exams. I recommend doing a lot of practice problems and studying the powerpoints. Very good at explaining things.
His online intro to chem class is an easy A, you have weekly Homework that's a 20 question quiz due every Sunday, 3 exams plus the final. He has a workbook, i don't think is required, but definitely helpful since it has practice problems with answers. Course is easy to navigate, and his lecture videos are very informational. Take this class!!
good paste course even tho it was online he provided good lectures to learn the topic. the only thing i dislike was the fact i could not remediate anything. I'm ending with an 88.7 and he will not round anything and despite me trying to email to keep my grade up all semester and would not do anything.
The best professor by far. Everything is online and he makes amazing understandable YouTube videos. I love this teacher. Everything was easy to follow and study.
I would 100% take this class again if I could. He made chemistry seem easy
I loved Professor Melko! His lectures were never boring, and he always kept me engaged in what he was teaching. He is extremely nice and exceptionally good at explaining complex concepts. I would really recommend him, especially for Intro to Chem.
Dr. Melko is a great teacher. His online course is straightforward and simple. The material can be challenging, but the homework modules and practice exams give you a clear idea on what you will be tested on. His videos are helpful, and there's a good timeline on what we will be studying.
