Really cool teacher. Lectures could be sometimes boring and sometimes fun. All quizzes are online and easy As, give 2 essays, a midterm and a final. Takes attendance but you can miss two days without a penalty. Material was extremely interesting and he isn't a hard grader. Take him! Class is an easy A/B
Josh is a great professor! He took Political Philosophy, which I expected to be awfully dull, and made it interesting. He gives online quizzes every week but you can take them as many times as you need in order to get a 100. Attendance is mandatory but you can miss class twice with no penalty. He is a great professor! Taking another class with him!
I love this class! It is one of my favorite classes that I have taken in this major thus far. Josh makes the class really fun and is always willing to let students giver imput in class. I have learned a lot and I am taking another class with him next semester. If you have to take POLS1170 and there's more than one professor, choose Josh.
He makes a class that could be really boring pretty funny and easier to understand. There's a lot of reading that's pretty difficult, but the lectures definitely help. Take a class with him if you can.
Some of the material can be boring and a drag, but he has a lot of energy and makes the material easy to understand and relatable. There are quizzes online, 2 essays, and 2 exams.
Amazing professor, he's able to combine his literary knowledge and really really get through the information to everyone in the class. He's very energetic and helpful. Would take him ten times over, I wish he taught more political science or history classes.
Really great professor, very relatable. Super smart guy, really knows his stuff. Get ready to read a lot, because this guy is passionate about what he teaches.
Very cool teacher. He really shows passion when he is teaching. He loves class discussion and for you to get involved and the more your involved the easier the class is. Not a tough grader, just be prepared to write a couple of papers. Overall, i would take him again.
Prof Miller made this subject enjoyable! He looks like he is 13 years old, but is very knowledgeable on the subject. He has two exams (a midterm and a final) that are essay questions and you have to write two 5 page papers. The papers are very challenging but he grades leniently. I had no idea what I was talking about and made an A in the class.
Professor Miller is by far the best professor I have had at UNCC. He is very smart and funny. He knows what he's talking about and offers great feedback. He genuinely cares about his students. Overall the class was not too hard. Take Professor Miller you will not regret it!
You will learn everything you need to know from his lectures! Go to class! He is fantastic!
Mr. Miller's class is the only class I can pay attention in at 8 in the morning! He makes political philosophy fun and interesting with relevant application to modern life. He is absolutely hilarious, while also being extremely informative. I am able to now speak in depth about ancient philosophy to my friends! Take this class!!!
Great professor. To be completely honest, History of Classical Political Philosophy sounded incredibly boring, but I needed a class. I'm really glad I was proven wrong! He made the content interesting, relatable, and funny. His lectures were great and super informative.
Professor Miller displayed one of the most in-depth understandings of his subject of all the professor that I have had thus far. His classes are lecture heavy, but the lectures are detailed, funny, and powerful. You can learn a lot about yourself by taking one of his classes. Take notes in class and you should do well. A few tests & a couple papers
Really easy class. Two tests and a final. If you read the book and take notes on the lecture then you're guaranteed at least a B. There are quizzes as well but you have two tries on them and they are extremely simple.
Don't know what the point of this class was, but I enjoyed it! Miller is funny and makes the philosophical material interesting and I honestly felt like I learned something. The bulk of your grade is a research paper you have to write, but he's super helpful with it! He takes attendance, but it's not a painful 50 mins. You'll laugh & prob get an A!
I thoroughly enjoyed his version of LBST 2301; I would definitely recommend it to others, esp. those in PoliSci who would like to further engage in political philosophy. In lecture, Miller is funny, engaging, and informative. He puts a great deal of effort into this class, providing extensive feedback on the rough drafts for our final paper.
For POLS1110 I would highly recommend this professor, has online weekly quizzes with multiple attempts and you have to "read" a book throughout the semester, all his tests are online but are timed. He is a great POLS teacher and really cares about the topic, not biased on his views and really cares about what he teaches, attendance not required.
The entire class is based on attendance, participation, and an 8-10 page essay that will be worked on throughout the semester. There are lots of long readings that can be difficult to understand, but the class is great overall!
Professor Miller is very good at what he does. He understands the material extremely well and even though the class was at 8:30, he made it interesting enough. Attendance is mandatory and is taken every class. Had two 5-6 page papers, three small quizzes and that's about it. There are about 7 books to buy but I never bought any since they're online
Dr Miller is an excellent professor, I read previous comments and let me tell you he is an oustanding professor. Go to class, read and participate and you will pass. We had 2 papers , I am not fan of writing but he gave me a B on both. Take notes it helps
He is an excellent lecturer. He also is very good when interacting with students in terms of class participation. The assignments are fairly demanding, but there aren't very many of them.
Dr. Miller is a phenomenal professor. His engaging lectures made 9am class worth it. All the readings are great too - all we're a good balance of challenging and interesting. Tests are straight forward no tricks, a true chance to display your knowledge. Take him if you get the chance.
Great lectures. Good slides. Study guides before exams. Open office hours. Very understanding. Not a complete easy A but if you try its definitely doable
Literally the best professor Ive had here. The content may be difficult sometimes but he tries to stay clear, open to questions and tests/quizzes are all online. Nicest guy ever, 100% would take him again.
Really hard to write notes in class because he only talks and does not actually put important key info on his slides. Its mainly only pictures and questions on his slides. Plus, the tests are extremely challenging. My class average for the midterm was 67% and he only curved it by 2%.
Dr. Miller is an absolute expert in philosophy and extremely passionate about the material in class. The reading is long and difficult but the lectures really help with understanding the reading. The midterm and final were both online and multiple choice.
Excellent professor, really cares about his classes and takes the time to get to know everyone, teaches in a clear understandable manner, without tons of stress, even in high level courses
He is a great professor and is really in tune with his students in terms of offering feedback and being flexible to help. The readings and exams are very difficult so really take advantage of his office hours.
Overall a great teacher. Loved his class.
Took Prof Miller SS2 Summer 2020 all online during COVID season as a visiting student. High A with extra credit given. Tests are a bit challenging but ended with a solid A--102. He is such a well versed and outspoken professor that taught IR well! I still keep in touch back in my home college and he is such a approachable and smart professor! TAKE
Honestly took this class for a requirement but it wasn't a bad class. I find the topics really boring but he makes lectures better by relating it to todays society. Theres 1-3 short reading almost every week with a multiple choice quiz. Some weeks you will have a discussion from. Overall, the workload was more than bearable.
Great guy! You should ready, the tests are a little tricky but reading helps a lot. I think I'll end this class with an A-.
Dr. Joshua Miller was one of my favorite professors. His lectures are very interesting and insightful. Hes also very helpful and willing to answer and questions that come up. He actually inspired me to pursue a major is Political Science. Would recommend him, even if its just for a required class.
This was one of my options of classes I had to take as a freshman and I am so glad I did this class focused mostly on reading excerpts of literature and diving into the meaning of it and what the implications are for everyday life, a very easy class with an amazing teacher
One of the few teachers I will give a 5 too. Really nice guy, and funny. His classes are so easy, you're supposed to use the textbook but I haven't touched mine once this semester and I have an A. Gives weekly quizzes (easy) very understanding about personal problems. Also weekly discussion board posts, and thats it besides exams.
Professor Miller was a pretty good professor. Because of COVID, this class was completely online with no specific meeting days. Miller did a great job at making sure all students knew of all assignments due each week. Packback is a weekly assignment and there were weekly reading quizzes. Not too hard though.
Dr. Miller was a real goat during this pandemic. I had him for intro to political philosophy and it was great. You have two assignments a week. Packback and quiz. You get two attempts for the quiz so it should be easy to get an A if you read the textbook. Easy A for anyone who can read a text book.
professor miller is the most incredible professor at uncc. his lectures are incredibly light hearted and enjoyable, he often relates topics back to modern day society. incredibly accessible outside of class and very respectful and just an incredibly enjoyable person. 10/10 recommend taking a course with him, you wont regret it!!!
Loved having Dr. Miller, he is such a great teacher and has a talent for being able to explain complex concepts in a way that anyone can understand. A genuinely great guy who gives great lectures 10/10 would recommend!
I transferred from UNCC two years ago and still think about this guy. He always made everything interesting and made it easy to keep up with concepts. The class never felt like work, it was just like engaging conversation. Classwork was never difficult either, I took multiple classes of his in the same semester and aced everything.
Honestly, he was great. I didnt pay attention but I still passed with a 97. Great professor and he grades nice and has few assignments except weekly quizzes and db. overall 10/10
Dr. Miller was one of the best professors I've had! He is very engaging in the lectures and isn't a harsh grader either. As long as you attend most of the classes (as well as the discussion section) and complete your work on time, you should be fine. If you have a chance to take him for anything, do it!
Hands down Prof Miller is the best prof at this University. I actually wanted to go to class, not a lot of work. Midterm was no time limit, open note and take home. Final is an essay, you have 2 months to work on. He cares about you and is always available to help, answers emails and is literally the only professor who actually cares about you.
He is a nice professor but is stingy with giving out extra credit. The last test requires studying. His percentage scale for tests is not fair. If you dont do good on the last test, (30%), then you really blew the class, all of the hard for the semester goes down the drain. You can only miss 2 days after meeting 3x week?? This needs to change.
Professor Miller is very engaging and most of the class is just talking about philosophy or your own opinions. One of the easiest classes I've taken at UNC Charlotte, no quizzes or tests just a midterm and a final paper.
Dr. Miller was the best professor I think I could ever have. His lectures were amazing, interesting, funny, and encouraged participation. Every day I would actually end up looking forward to his lectures; I think his class was the only one I went to every day this semester. The workload is light and very easy, just highly participation based.
is super passion about what he teaches. This made me want to be engaged in the course material. The only assignments in the class are 3 papers and they are very easy to construct. I am very glad i took this course it was very beneficial
Lectures were engaging and he made sure students voices were heard. Extremely respectful and amiable. Feedback on essays were sometimes provided from him, other times by the preceptor or TA but relatively good feedback. Also quick to respond to emails and questions. Easy class to take for the credit needed.
By far the greatest professor I have ever had. Can not recommend him enough. I literally made this RateMyProfessor account just so I can give Dr. Miller a 5/5. I had him for two classes and both were an easy A. He was always accessible and is funny/caring/the greatest. Literally the dream class. Please take him if you have the opportunity.
This professor was truly engaging: during each class, it was fascinating to see just how knowledgeable he was while also narrowing down the material to its focal points and encouraging discussion among classmates. Although online, it was perhaps the best weekly Zoom class I attended at this university. Highly recommend for the lectures alone.
Amazing lectures, easy to follow, kept the class interesting and engaging
I took this class Spring 2022. The class was easy enough, if you show up/try, you're golden. There is a quiz once a week, and a writing assignment once a week. There were three exams total, and the final Exam was included in that, if I recall correctly, so the point distribution was not my fav. I'm a terrible test taker. Lectures were good, though.
Professor Miller is the best! Attendance is mandatory but if you have an emergency he is very understanding. Professor Miller is very passionate about his job and includes the classes feedback in all of his lectures. We also had breakout sessions with our TA and he is also very caring and helpful. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone!
My all time favorite professor. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he makes you want to come to class because he's funny. Weekly assignments and reading are perfectly manageable and the exams are open note. Definitely recommend!
Greatest of all time. His lectures actually make you want to come to class and he always makes everybody laugh. He has weekly quizzes that are straight forward. His tests are definitely harder than the quizzes and more application based, but he curves them if needed. There are also weekly discussion posts. There is an opportunity for extra credit.
Dr. Miller is an amazing professor, and I highly recommend taking him if possible. There aren't a lot of assignments, and it's only papers, even the final. The lectures are super interesting, and the breakout class is amazing in helping you truly grasp the weekly concept. Best class I took during my first semester at college.
Professor Miller was incredibly knowledgeable and was always prepared for class. His lectures incorporated student involvement and there was also time for any question a student had. His exams were pretty self explanatory as long as you turned up to class and read the textbook, as they were always open note. 10/10 would recommend Professor Miller.
Professor Miller is hands down one of my favorite professors at UNCC. I seek out classes he teaches. He is hilarious and extremely effective at conveying often complex political science subject material. Absolute expert in his field, and you should hands down take one of his courses.
Dr. Miller really makes his class worth taking. I thoroughly enjoyed this course because of him. I also enjoyed having a small group day, it made me and many of my peers comfortable enough to speak in front of one another.
Dr. Miller is great at his job, he's pretty accessible outside of class and is always willing to answer questions during office hours. His lectures are pretty interesting as well. I will say that you should keep up with notes and readings from day 1. A lot of exam stuff comes from the reading and lecture notes. 10/10 for sure!
Great professor, I hate philosophy but actually learned a lot in this class.
Dr. Miller is a great professor and the class was interesting! Only 5 Packback grades, 3 short papers, and an open-book final exam (4 short answer questions). The only issue I had was reaching him through email and not knowing the class was canceled a few times. There was a breakout group on Wednesdays that the TA led which was fun and laidback.
Dr. Miller is a kind, funny professor. He made the class interesting. There were a couple of difficult assignments, but as long as you focus on the material you learned, they should be moderately easy. I truly appreciate how understanding he was when I had family issues. Overall a very good person.
He was a great lecturer and always related back to his students in a way we would understand. Very rare to have a lot of assignments and the breakout sessions seemed to always be interesting topics discussed.
Attendance is 'mandatory' but it's really just a poll everywhere he does. Lectures do get a little monotone since the topic wasn't engaging for me, but he always showed respect to those with differing and even controversial views, having an open mind and allowing many students to speak their opinion and views. Very easy, just do packback.
Probably the best professor at UNCC. Super easy to talk and get a hold of him. Quizzes and exams can be challenging if you dont read the chapter. He uses pollev for attendance and waits until the end of class. Just talk to him if you want an A and he will help you. Trust me.
If you have to take POLS 1150 I definitely recommend this professor. His lectures are energetic in a way that makes you pay attention and he explains things in a way you can easily understand. There are two assignments weekly but they are easy and not time-consuming. His tests are easy as long as you go to the lectures. 10/10 recommend.
Dr. Miller is the MAN. He's a great teacher and a great dude. I loved his class, extremely informative and he made it all so easy to understand. Every time I see him out of class I say hello. He is friendly, understanding, and a very clear grader. He has set deadlines, and his work is not too hard.
Professor Miller is a great teacher. Only three essays throughout the course and weekly quizzes/packbacks. He seems to use packback in most of the courses he teaches. This is the first class of his that I have taken completely online and I honestly recommend taking him in person instead of online so you can know how funny he is.
I have taken many classes with Dr. Miller, all of them have been really great. This class was a little harder to understand because of how philosophical it was but even if I did not understand the concepts deeply, his assignments were heavily based on you taking a stance and being able to support it with evidence so you can still do well.
Professor Miller is one of the best instructors I have had in my time at UNC Charlotte. Every single one of his lectures was incredibly interesting, he spoke loud and clear always and was never monotone, and he was hilarious, keeping the entire class engaged. The class itself isn't that hard, and if you put the effort into it, you should do well.
You need a professor like Dr. Miller in your life. You will feel smarter after taking his class; he is the kind of professor that could explain calculus to a toddler. The requirements for everything are objective and precise- what you see is what you get. There's not too much work, but tests are almost everything in this class (the tests are fair).
Professor Miller was very engaging with his material and always knew the topic at hand. Expert in his field and was always able to answer any questions you needed answers to.
Dr. Miller is an amazing teacher. I recommend taking a class with him. He uses PackBack and quizzes mostly, which neither are difficult.
10/10, amazing professor. I've taken his courses for 3 years. Only drawback is that he speaks in a very advanced way. He explains concepts very well for anyone to get but when he asks questions to the class to incite discussion, you have no idea what he's asking. There were many times that someone would have to ask him to rephrase his question.
Dr. Miller is a great professor. The class is lecture style with weekly quizzes which are easy and weekly packbacks which are also very easy. I loved this class and I love this professor.
The reviews speak for themselves. Dr. Miller is hilarious and passionate about what he teaches, and he makes normally dry-sounding lectures like exchage rates and trade policy hilarious and interesting to listen to. I looked forward to his class every day, and strongly recommend that you take him at least once if you have the chance!
Dr. Miller is the best teacher I have had at my time at UNC Charlotte. He always comes to class ready to teach and crack some jokes along the way. He has a great sense of humor, is extremely understanding when it comes to assignment extensions (given that you communicate properly to him), and is very accessible outside of class. Take his course!
I adore Dr. Miller. He's extraordinarily intelligent, but he's not pompous. He's a real sweetheart; he's very understanding about absences. He does add a lot in his lectures, but you'll want to be there for them; missing out isn't just missing out on info. He's super easy to reach, he's very friendly. I even go to him for issues outside of class.
I love Dr. Miller. Everyone loves Dr. Miller. Take his course. His lectures are so entertaining, you find yourself surprised every time the clock indicates class is over.
Dr. Miller is one of the most energetic and enthusiastic professors that I've had here at UNCC. He knows a lot about the topics he teaches and always has answers to questions. Most of the homework will be Packback questions and reflections, but they are easy. I'd reccomend taking his class!
I'm taking his class right now; HE IS SO FUNNY!! His classes are hilarious and so informative. He is so open to answering questions and making sure we understand the topic clearly. I would SO recommend this class. He is super energetic and very helpful if you need. Assignments are fairly easy. 10/10
I've taken Dr. Miller multiple times at UNCC. He is hilarious, helpful, and accessible by email if you ever need anything.
Dr. Miller's classes are absolutely phenomenal. Yes, it's almost entirely lectures, but they're some of the most enjoyable lectures I've sat through in the 3.5 years I've attended this school. Dr. Miller is both funny and knowledgeable, plus very approachable outside of class. It's a shame he only teaches two classes, and I've taken both!
Lectures were entertaining, not much assignments. just one essay and final
I really enjoyed this professor. Usually, those big 100+ people lectures are boring, but he was pretty funny, and made me want to attend his lectures. Assignments were easy an exams were online. He technically requires attendance, and checks with Poll Everywhere most days, but he's also pretty understanding if you have to miss class.
