He's actually a pretty nice guy if you get to know him. I wish he helped us more in the labs and not make his tests so tricky as to have only one person get an A.
his quizzes are definitely too difficult, and his lectures are not so effective. most of my classmates feel as though their success in class really depends on just their independent study.
Not an easy class. Teaching and lecturing skills leave plenty of room for improvment. POOR teacher, but good scientist. Must be motivated and have a good understanding prior to taking his class. Uses a not so easy multi-choice system on tests ( example- A or B or C or A&C or A&B&C). Uses lots of sli
Parker wants to intimidating, but he is not! On the first day he will try to scare you with this lecture about how this is a hard class. It is a difficult class, but you just need to read, ask questions, and do NOT listen to him, rather take notes from your lab teacher if they are different. He's o
Parker is a traditional professor but his quizzes are ridiculous. He lets you take them before discussing the materials on the quiz. I suggest perform VERY well in labs so that you can have room for mistakes on lectures. Tests are going to be easier towards the end of the semester.

He is a pretty cool guy (the kind you might see at an ACDC Concert drinking a beer). His class is very hard though. If you do not pay attention and study a lot, you will not pass. I did not do enough studying, but some how I still past with a C (I think he just bumped me up just to be nice).
He is a pretty cool guy (the kind you might see at an ACDC Concert drinking a beer). His class is very hard though. If you do not pay attention and study a lot, you will not pass. I did not do enough studying, but some how I still passed with a C (I think he just bumped me up just to be nice).
He recommends an Intro to Chemistry workbook. Definitely buy it. Its probably the one single thing that will help me through this class.
I just do not see at all how this class/teacher can be considered difficult. He does not teach well(only by Powerpoint) but I merely read the chapters assigned and went to class once every 2 weeks and got a near perfect A. Don't major in science or engineering if you find him difficult.
Parker looks like an easy going and fun teacher, but his lectures are boring. He does nothing but reads off his power points which come straight from the book. His tests cover way more than he lectures on.
Very hard, nononsense teacher.
this guy seems to want students to fail!!!!!!!!!!!! he acts as tho he was the 1st scientist born
cant understand what hes saying
Great teacher. He is very helpful and knows what he is doing. Always open to help students, very easy to talk to. Slightly difficult, which is normal for a biology class. Most of the ratings I've read are untrue. Some of you should stop whining and start opening your books!
very hard. most of his notes are from the powerpoint, which is from the book so if u try to ask something he will say "look back in the book". dats why i find him unhelpful. but he's a pretty cool guy,he can be easy if u see it that way but hard if u dont pay attention. also take lil' side notes from lecture even though its from the powerpoint coz
It took awhile for me to get used to his style of teaching, I remember how he talked so fast during lectures, But his class became easier somewhere in the middle of the semester. If you want to pass his class, all you gotta do is read the book and do well on the homework if you do those two.., you will get a good grade on the tests for sure.
I think that he knows too much (10 years of biology)PHD but he realy do not know hot to transfer his knodlege to his students,he does not know how to teach, talks too fast and if you ask something related to the material he can't answer just tells you read the book.So do the homework and read,read,read....
He has been the worst teacher I have had at CCSN. He is very unhelpful and talks way to fast through his lecture, and seems annoyed when you ask him a question. Overall, if there is another teacher available take the other teacher.
If you want a good grade in this class make sure you read or go through the chapter BEFORE the lecture and know all of the vocabulary. Before the exams definately look through all of the powerpoint notes! Also write down anything that Parker emphasizes or spends a lot of time on in lecture, it will usually be on the test.
Dr. Parker is educated, but if you just bring your book and highlight whatever he says or does on power point, you've got it made! As for understanding biology.. to me, it was in one ear and out the other... I just needed this class as a prerequisite to Biology 223 and 251. I did a lot of studying on my own by reading the book BEFORE going to clas
He is not the correct professor for Biology. Ecology works well for his subject. His tests are difficult and has a lot of "all the above answers." His homework are very tricky. Do not buy the Mader Biology book, its not even use. Buy Campbell/Reece Biology, he gets his questions from there. Be able to know everything before exam time.
Bad teacher! I ever had.
I did not take him from lecture, but his labs are extremely easy. He was helpful to our group and really cool to talk to once you get to know him. If you take him for lecture I guess you can say if you got an A - you really deserved it and know your stuff.
if u dont wanna waste ur money, dont take this professor! coz u will gonna end up dropping his class 2 weeks before finals...mostly in his class, out of 50 students, there were 7 usually left and everybody drops from his class. ouch! waste of money.... he enjoys "tricky questions" even nonsense like "bogar questions"
I think he is a great teacher! He's not easy....you really have to study but I came out learning a whole lot!!! He had study sessions before the tests which were very helpful. He really went the extra mile for those wanting to learn....if you think he's a bad teacher, you are either stupid or just plain lazy. this isn't 3rd grade science!
This teacher has no sense of teaching people. His test hard hard, no clarity regarding study notes, powerpoints are useless. Has trick questions on test ! what is the need for them. Unable to understand or know what to study for an exam.
He is the worst teach I have ever had. He does not clarify and expects you to know everything. His teaching manner is horrible and does not relate to students!
he sucks big time
Parker's class is really hard. When he is focused, it is concise and interesting. When he gets distracted, nothing makes sense. His lab is hard too. It helps with the understanding of the concepts he emphasizes in lecture, but the quizes are often very hard. He has an obvious passion for the subject. I wish he would teach less from the book.
Pay attention in Lecture, and take notes...then you'll get a good grade. Questions on test come from notes taken in lecture. Dr. Parker does take a while to post grades and sometimes makes errors on test answers and quizzes. He is very helpful and will work with you if needed. Sometimes goes fast when he starts lecturing...you gotta pay attention.
this teacher sucks! im sorry, but i know that BIOL 189 is tough, but there are teachers out there that make it easier to understand. he is not one of those teachers.
Dr. Parker is not a bad teacher but he is NOT easy. You just really have to pay attention in lecture cause sometimes there are things in the test that are not in the book.
Practice your listening skills, especially when listening to fast talkers! He talks fast but he definitely knows what he's talking about. His tests are a trip though! Whenever you have a spare minute, STUDY!
No question he knows his biology, the question is does he know how to teach it. He talks and talks and talks and sometimes he makes no sense and if you ask a question he won't know how to answer and then he would loose track of what he was saying. His test are very confusing, so if you like biology don't get this proffesor. If you don't care go ahead
Dr. Parker is a great teacher. He's not easy, but if you need help he is more than happy to help. My advice is study the notes and in class material. I would bring a tape recorder, replay the lecture, and rewrite my notes on 3X5 cards. Also do the practice tests available on WebCT, he might put a couple of the questions on the test. He is really easy to talk to, so that helps when you are having trouble in lecture. I learned so much from his class and couldn't be happier. I also had him for lab and that was a blast. I am going to take him for 223lab.
Dr. Parker is very passionate about his subject -- he has a dual masters, so that should tell you something! He will help you all you want, because he really does want you to know what he's talking about. He will terrify you in the very first class when he tells you, "This is a hard-core course."
TOTALLY FUN CLASS. Teacher is very knowledgeble and makes the class fun and interesting.
No way to skate through this class - moderately hard. If you do your work, read your assignments - its no problem. If you don't do your work and are a complete slacker - you are going to have problems. Parker is a very easy going teacher - he knows his stuff.
Alot of people seem to not like his teaching styles but I personally don't think he was that bad. I passed with an A. His lectures are straight from his PowerPoint but if you read the chapter then you will know exactly what he's talking about. It was also very helpful that he let us print his lecture slides off of WebCT. My advice to you is READ!!
I absolutely hated this professor! I would never take him again, and I definitely don't recommend him. Skillen is a much better professor for this subject.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! Take a risk with someone else. You had homework that were 30-40 questions due before he actually lectured on that topic! Equal to quizzes. The questions were very critial thinking. Lecture notes were hard to read when printed from WebCT. I dropped his class after I studied for 5 days and got a 62% on the first test!
total time and dedication is needed for this class or it will be very tuff i had a full load of classes so this was hard. attendace is very helpful also reading is too. i couldnt understand the reading so homework was hard!!aslo exams are very hard i am re taking with a different professor.
I cannot believe what a terrible teacher this guy is. I have been working my butt off and it's near the end of the semester and I have not gotten the grades I deserve. He is not helpful at all!!!!
This guy prides himself on failing students.
Please do NOT take this teacher. He goes against everything a teacher should do. His tests have many trick questions, he gives homeworks that are extremely hard before going over the chapters in class, makes you feel stupid in class if you don't know the right answer, and doesn't let you study the previous tests for the finals.
He is very knowledgable, but it almost does seem he is out to fail you. His test questions are very tricky, and Extremely specific. My class started with 40-45 students, and ended with 9.
Very knowledgable. Gives a lot of information. Very tough on tests! He does not give tests back but you can review them in his office. May want to lighten your credit load with this class.
I don't know why they allow this instructor to hurt the students learning morale. He is not a teacher at all. All he does is read his note, which needs definition to understand when he lectures. When we start the class, we were about 40 students, at the end of semester L than 10 remains. You make a decision not even 2 think to be around his class.
I have mixed feelings on this professor, but mainly only because I got away with a B! He's hard and his homework is almost impossible to get full credit on because you have to turn it in (on webct) before he's even covered the material in class. Not the worst but def. not the best either!
Unorganized. homework doesn't parallel what your studying & has many errors. take him for a C or possibly a B, if you need an A take someone else. He is not a bad instructor. However, he could work on his people skills. this is a difficult course and you will have to put some effort into it.
HARDEST PROFESSOR! Not an easy A, U will have to work VERY hard to even get a B, aver. grades are C. HW (class,WebCT) given b4 material is covered in class. Tests are tricky, H-A-R-D & booger ?s. Lighten your class load! (think P/T...6 credit max) Optional online quiz, but takes 1 or 2 questions per quiz, and puts it on Exam! Take @ your own risk!
Had this Prof. a long time ago and thought he was unclear, but since I've moved on into the nursing program, I realize that he is easy! You can get an A in this class, he gives an optional study group that tells you what will be on the test-all you have to do is go. If u don't get an a or b, it's b/c you didn't try or science isn't your thing.
I had Dr. Parker a few years ago at CCSN for a Biology class. He was an awesome instuctor and always seemed to be concerned for the success of the students outcome. Many occasions he would set up some study sessions after class to help the students better understand the material. He was great! Incredibly hot. I never missed a class!
I took his class a year ago and it took me a couple of trys to pass this level but I used his notes and another professors notes to pass. He's very detailed, you have to read and you MUST commit to studying to pass!
WORST BIO professor. Gives you flunking grades. Very negative NO matter how hard you work. Does NOT PLAN . ALL he wants is to FLUNK FLUNK students. If you don't want to waste time DO NOT SIGN UP with this re-incarnated DEVIL
This teacher, Parker, is one of the hardest teahers I have ever had in my life! I had him a few semesters ago and his exams are very Tricky making it hard. He gives quizes every week before going the lecture for that Quiz. His lecture is too fast and does not explain very well such as the Cell Cycle or Cell. Respiration. No visual expalaining. HARD!
Had him for 189 last semester. Parker teaches at a high university level. You need to commit at least 2 hours per lecture on studying. He is tough indeed but in a way, it made the rest of my classes: 223,224,251 more easier to understand. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone who is serious in pursuing a career in Science field.
He isnt nearly as bad as his reputation. As long as you show up to class and take good notes you'll be fine. Hes really approachable if you have extra questions or go to his office hours. I wouldnt reccomend this class if you are looking for an easy grade but if you want to actually know the information he definitely knows what hes talking about.
Professor Parker is the toughest professor I have ever encountered. I studied and studied and studied. All that studying barely got me a B- while I was there. His tests are insane. He only gives 1 homework assignment the whole semester. If you don't have hours and hours and hours to study every week, or you get test anxiety don't take Parker.
Dr. Parker is definetly not an easy professor, however, he is reliable, knowledgeable, truthful and real down to earth. He was always available and encouraging, but not pacifying. He speaks with respect and is eager to have students succeed. He does have the qualifying gift of filtering out those that might not belong in the Health Sciences.
He is THE WORst Professor ever. I do NOT know why they keep such BAD prof. at CSN? He Does not help students. Grades unfairly. You answer an exam question and you get zero from him. He should be a policeman and not a professor.Does not give handouts. No feedback. Does not explain the labs and gives zero to most students. You come few minutes late t
I took this prof last semester and i gotta say that hes probaly the best teacher i've ever had. Yes hard, but sooo clear and really helps you to understand. Really wants his students to succeed, but also filters the ones who shouldnt be there. If you think he was hard and planning to major in health sciences, you should def pick a diff major.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR BIO 197. His material is way too comprehensive, and he does not give an inch for his grading policy. His lectures are long and terrible. The lab is even worse. AND he turns the class into an entomology class. There are 5 exams and you must do a research paper and a bug collection. The bug collection is terribly hard a
After being warned to check with this site before I take a class, unfortunately it was too late and I took my chances. I am an A+ student and I can not believe the problems everyone had in his class. First he is very impatient, and patrionizing when asked questions. You will have to learn all on your own, get a tutor, and read the book and you migh
HE IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER, HE KNOWS WHO WANTS TO LEARN AND WHO IS JUST A SEAT WARMER. I HAVE TAKEN HIM TWICE AND EACH TIME HE HAS BEEN PATIENT WITH ALL OF MY QUESTIONS AND ALWAYS TRIES TO GRADE FAIRLY, PERHAPS THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T LIKE HIM, JUST DON'T LIKE CHALLENGING CLASSES.
if you are a masochist take this prof.he will make your life a mierable one. he will alwys make any test or exam a study in esoteric gobbly gook. at the end of a1.5hr. lecture your head will be spinning and you will remember very little. he insufferably boring but has avery high opinion of himself. he is also very anal so if you misspell one letter
It seems at lot of people don't like Parker, but he is very clear about what he wants you to know, and he's an extremely smart guy! Want to be prepared? Take him and give it your all.
[1] Ok people. This is how it is. His expectations were the highest top5 of all classes that I took (more than 140 credits); however, he represented the top5 quality also considering helpfulness, clarity, and availability. He, himself is the one of the hardest workers in the CSN Biology department and he proved it to me.
[2] Moreover, as only few professors, he really thinks ahead in order to help students. I'm not only talking about having high selections standards in order to prepare student but also making any students aid available for students. It was tough but possible, so I got an A with 95% average.
PASSIONATE AND KNOWLEDGABLE. ALTHOUGH DIFFICULT AND EXTENSIVE THE EYE CANDY MAKES UP FOR IT.
Currently taking BIO189. Overall he's good teacher. He's not easy, but he teaches you what you need to know, and i think it will better prepare me for my future BIO classes. He's not impossible or out to fail you. I think he cares if his students pass, but only for the students who care about passing. Study the lecture notes and you'll pass.
If your world is in the sciences I recommend Dr. Parker even though he is a tough cookie. As long as you attend every class and study his lecture notes, you wil do fine. By the way, HOT GUY!
i took him last semester. horrible professor. i didnt learn anything, and i studied. i got a b in his class only because i went to a previous bio instructer for study help. everyone on here who likes him just likes him because hes hot. if youre just looking for eye candy, hes your guy. but not a good professor.
He is very engaging during class, and makes the lectures interesting. But he is hard to pin down outside of class, and can take awhile to grade the exams. The exams are very difficult, but straight out of the notes. Exam question are very wordy. To prepare, study the online chapter tests, which have similar questions, and a few are the same.
I liked him a lot.He is not that bad.His lectures are interesting, and he explanes the material very good.Just study your notes, and you'll be fine. For sure, it'll take time, but it's all worth it.
Great prof- bad rep for being difficult. Actually incredibly easy if you just go to class and take notes. Homework assignments are helpful study tool for tests. Very knowledgeable, thorough and passionate about his subject.
Awesome prof, but only if you are not lazy. If you can't hack the class, it is because you don't want to work. Attend class, take notes, record and study notes daily for best results. See him after class for additional help. If you don't ask, he can't clarify.
WARNING!!! Parker makes this class more difficult than it should be. His exams are all short answer/essays! He is so picky about grading and will deduct points if you're not COMPLETELY thorough. His lectures are interesting but exams are tricky and long, not to mention subjective.
Unapproachable
He is a smart guy and clearly he knows his subject well. I suggest you take his class if you already know bio and just want to have a disscussion with him about it. He's hottt and smart, but not not a good teacher. I read and studied alot but still had a very hard time. It felt like i had to teach myself the material, he wasnt helpful.
To tell the truth no biology teacher is easier than the other. They will all seem hard because Bilogy is hard. That said Biology with Parker is so much more difficult than it should be. There are no study guides just power point notes, you will need tons of tutoring.Believe me parker is not there to make friends. So try really hard.
I will have to agree with everybody. I dont think he is there to help students. He brags about being helpful but everytime i ask him a question i dont understand his answer is u should know this. He probably doesnt unserstand he is the teacher and that is what we pay him to do is help us.With his tests you have 2 apply what u know or else you fail.
He was boring, unhelpful, and the exams were extremely hard, and were worded very tricky. I hated this teacher, but I don't hate biology, so it had to be his crappy teaching methods. Do yourself a favor, find a better instructor!
Parker is old fashioned when it comes to grades. He is not an easy teacher, he actually makes you learn the material. He class his kick your ass. You have to study or you will fail. However, if you do pass his class I can guarantee you, that you will know the material better than any "A" student from another professors class. Study hard good luck.
From what I have heard, he is a very tough 189 professor, but that class is also much more difficult for most than it was for me. As a 197 prof, I think he rocked. The only studying I did was reading each chapter in the text, and I did exceptionally well. I think the majority of my peers are just kinda lazy, dumb babies. Whoops did I say that? Yes.
His class is definitely not an easy "A," or a "C" to say the least. He's pretty hardcore when it comes to knowing the material so I would suggest to study HARD. Great teacher, nonetheless, but you better be ready to put in A LOT of effort to get a decent grade.I'm sure after him, all the other classes beyond this intro will be a breeze.
makes everything very very hard and confusing. not helpful at all. does NOT explain the exams. no reviews before the exam. you have to study everyday for the whole semester if you want to get at least a C. no consideration. he gives F to students.
He is not the greatest professor. He just reads from the power points. He doesn't make the class fun at all. I pulled off a B but it was really difficult. His tests are tricky- application rather than just knowledge. I wouldn't recommend him if you want to learn something. But if you're looking for eye candy he's the tops!
He isn't a good professor, very hard. But he looks like James from twilight. So thats a plus.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had because he assumes that if you don't get a good grade on your test then you just didn't study hard enough. First day of class he said "More than half of you will fail my class." Nice.
He's impossible. He expects the students to read all of 5 chapters in 1 week. He asked us to complete a graded homework before discusing it in class. Very Unapproachable.
Very knowledgeable. However, that's where it ends.If you take him, make this your only class. Because, you will have to pretty much teach yourself. I withdrew because I had two other classes, and it was affecting my other grades. Read chapters 5,6,7 by Monday? (200 plus pg.) Not good for returning students, that work 50 hours a week.
I don't know where to start. I thought I was going to get a high B on the first test got a 42%. Used his examples from class and the book. He told the class the book was wrong (on multiple questions) and the examples he used in class were not good examples. I will never go to another one of his classes again. He is the only one that likes him.
Enjoying challenging your students is one thing, being masochistic is another. I had to drop this class because we were tested on things not prepared for, and his lesson plans were not put together well. He could not get on his game about handing papers and tests back, and it seems he barely changed his tests and quizzes over the past few years.
How does a professor expect students to long-answer 20 essay questions in 80 minutes for a major test? I never got above a C. Each question requires lots of analysis, sometimes a chart or diagram, all within a small slice of a page. Oh the instructions.. you can't use any other space besides the tiny area provided. No pencil either. Dropped class.
Parker was a tough, but I LEARNED a lot from him.I took Bio 189 in the summer with him. He gives you a great base to go to Anatomy and Microbiology!! Listen to the lecture!! Pay attention. He isn't easy, but uses good examples, and even though he is SUPER smart he kinda "dumbs" it down to our level. Again, he is hard, but worth it.
u cant learn off parker because his tests arent at all what he covers.. BIG problem! u get a powerpoint with sample questionsand then u get major test questions which would have required alot of memorization gimme a break.,, he dosent teach
DO NOT TAKE DR. PARKER. HE'S THE WORST BIO TEACHER EVER.
Very intelligent and passionate about what he teaches, but unapproachable and absent. Very hot, though.
I hestitated to do this but I must state the facts and the huge lack of interest in his teaching skills. The first day everyone was told that by mid sem half of the class will drop and most people earn a c! Not everyone is made to be a teacher. I am an A+ student and I did earn it in bio 189. Good luck
integrity and consistency are important. holds kids to a sky-high standard for work being prompt, following instructions exactly, requiring memorization for tests, and doing mountains of work. the problem, he cant answer most questions, slacks on handing anything back, and integrity: HE WRITES ALL HIS OWN POSITIVE REVIEWS. CHECK THE SIMILAR TONE.
okay seriously, do not take this professor. I never had to withdraw from a class before but i had to for this guy. He is really smart and hott, but he didnt connect with the class and..it was quite dreadful. &i read all the chapters req. and took notes on every page, he is a smart guy but his teaching method is bogus, impossible A.
Grading is out of line - literally at least a month to get a test returned.
You never know if you are prepared or not, and he's vague on what you really need to know or do. Basically a lot of guessing. Not a lot of directions, but expects you to know what he wants. He showed pictures of pierced female genitalia for an example as opposed to a diagram. You will come to hate him.
Dr.Parker is tough, no doubt about that. One can earn an A because I did (barely). He is helpful as long as you make the effort to talk to him. If you take his class just be prepared to study EVERY day. His tests require you to know the material inside and out. Good guy, good teacher don't judge him by all the negative comments.
Certainly not an easy class considering the amount of material covered, but if you go to class, pay attention and take great notes, this class is do-able. I found him to be very approachable if I had a question in class or after a test. This guy definitely knows his stuff and is passionate about teaching bio to students who WANT to learn.
He's hot!! But hard... after the first test you'll understand.. He wants you to learn and use your mind so be prepared. However, he is always willing to help. A lot of new concepts and vocabulary with this course so get ahead on that... best of luck had to withdraw but am hitting it head on in the fall
Dr Parker is a good teacher, he may be tough, but I learned a lot from his class. If you attend his sessions regularly, study, and take good notes you'll do fine. It helps to record his class, as he always covers what is on the exams. I respect this guy, he knows his stuff.
Mr Parker is a nice guy and very knowledgeable. That said, his exams are ridiculous! You have to have full memorization and PURE understanding on every concept he teaches. His tests want you to read between the lines and are very challenging, you better know the material inside and out in order to pass! Rough Class- DONT RECOMMEND
Wow, to take a NON-MAJOR class and have this difficult testing is crazy. It wouldn't even be a problem if you could take notes during Mr. Parker's class. He just talks and talks and everything is in Chineese (sorry it's a figure of speech).Nobody wants to ask questions because nobody gets the class. Why do we even have to buy the book when we don't
Worst teacher ever but looks like james from twilight only with longer hair.
HE KNOWS HIS STUFF, BUT KIND OF MAKES YOU FEEL STUPID IF YOU ASK QUESTIONS AND DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS TELLING YOU. DOESNT LIKE TO EXPLAIN THINGS MORE THAN ONCE.YOU NEED TO GET A VOICE RECORDER, READ THE BOOK AND STAY UP ALL NIGHT TO PASS HIS CLASS.
Extremely difficult exams require thorough knowledge of all material covered. This is frequently not enough as many exams questions deal with extremely specific portions of taught concepts (he requires knowledge of detail which he only covers in passing, use the book.) If you want to learn, audit the class, he will annihilate your GPA otherwise.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Seriously, he is one of my worst teacher ever. Being in education is not easy to talk negative about a teacher but he's just impossible to follow. We had a substitute when he was away and OMG what a difference! He should not teach but be in a lab or do researches...would do all students a favor!
Dr. Parker is one of the best teachers I ever had, if you want to go into the health profession, take his class. He wants to make sure that you understand the integral elements of Biology. Are you trying to pass College, or do you really want to learn?
BEWARE! His classes are very boring. He uses the powerpoint every time and goes extremely fast. Most people bring recorders. He is unapproachable and likes to brag on the first day of class that 75% will fail. I dropped his class and took it with another professor and I learned so much more. He is one of the worst teachers. I've had.
I took him this spring and I must say he is very knowledgeable about his stuff. if you are prepared to study biology and not just breeze through the class you can take him. he would enhance your study skills cuz you will actually be studying biology if you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. he is my favorite bio teacher, even
DON'T TAKE HIM!Dont understand why he makes Biol seem so hard. He starts off the first day saying that students fail his class because they don't ask for help. But how can you when he tells you more than half drop or fail. And if you ask him for help on something, instead of helping you he tells you to drop the course. Wish he didn't teach Biol 197.
Dr.Parker is a great teacher. If you take the time to review your notes you will do fine. It is not a walk throught the park but if your looking for one go find another profession. Plus he isnt to bad to look at! Id almost be willing to take it again just to stare.
If you are planning on a career in healthcare, then Parker will prepare you for the many harder classes to follow. This class was by no means easy, but if you do well in Parker's class you will survive A&P too. I found him approachable, was quick to answer questions via email or in office. I can see why people dont like him but I thought he was ok.
Gosh, is this guy hard or what? If you are not the studying type, this is not the class for you! He makes you ACTUALLY learn things. He's very knowlegable about Biology, but is not very approachable. Very stiff, stern, and a little intimidating. Parker will definitely prepare you harder, more demanding courses.
He is a horrible professor. Highly knowledgeable, but doesn't know how to convey his knowledge. He reads slides and that's it. Also, he is a tough paper grader. The whole grade is based mostly on exams and a research paper. I think he should read these comments and adjust his ego teaching style. He is unapproachable and not helpful when you do.
Fun and engaging lectures but to do well you must attend all classes, read the entire chapters, pay attention to slides texts and your notes. Study and understand all figures/pictures in your text book. Tests are difficult if you don't study. Don't just memorize definitions- understand them. Don't over analyze test questions.
Dr. Parker is very knowledgable but expects a lot from students. His test are very difficult, at a level of a colleauge not a student.
Regardless of who your instructor is this is a hard class! I think Parker is an excellent instructor. You will do well as long as you listen and record his lectures, read the book and be able to apply the knowledge. His test questions may seem hard if you don't understand the information but if you take the time to study you will be fine.
He is a horrible professor. When you ask him for help he gives you answers like, "study and you'll be fine." But thats his answer to everything. He's rude and just reads powerpoints. Thats it. He doesn't elaborate on anything. The only good thing is that he is incredibly hot. But other than 80 minutes of eye candy, the class was worthless.
VERY RUDE AND NOT HELPFUL TO STUDENTS AT ALL.
He is not a good professor. His understanding in this subject is not very clear to be a Dr. in this profession. He is very short-tempered to avoid questions asked by the students. Study guides are not required by professors, but if you think you are going to get help from him----you are sadly mistakened!!!!
Take a different teacher! Ya, he is full of knowledge and loves biol; but, he seems to get off on making things difficult. You might be an A student & study hard and still fail his tests. What's the point in making things so difficult for yourself? Head all the advice, Take Another Teacher and Call It A Day! (He even brags about students failing)
he thinks he smarter than anybody
I took this guy for 3 days and walked out of his class! He is extremely rude and egotistical. He made some lil' girl cry for asking a question, so I left and told him that he was a joke. Anyway, I walked over and was lucky enough to get into Dr. Kimberleys lecture. Got an A. I gave you fair warning.
Dr. Parker is a good professor. I took in summer 2013 and I enjoyed his Principles of Biology class. He knows the info can get tough and he was very helpful. Hey, people if you want to work hard go some place else. He knows who is trying and who wants a donation!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! he is the worst ever. he expects you know everything and when you don't know something he doesn't even try to help you. he will tell you to study hard or you will fail his class and he doesn't even care about his students at all! he's a very rude person too and gets frustrated easily
