Had a great time learning first year Calculus with Josh. As long as you stay honest with yourself with the homework/journals and ask help when needed, you will be on a good path towards a good grade. I am currently enrolled in 5B and I definitely feel confident and comfortable taking this class from what I have learned in 5A.
A lot of homework due each week, but its very straight forward and easier to understand given so much.
Josh is a very nice guy and a good professor. The class is heavily group based, so only take this course if you are comfortable with collaboration. He is lenient with grading and genuinely wants you to succeed in his class.
No difficulties throughout the course so long as you attend most classes. He was very clear on his grading standards, which I appreciated. The provided notes and in-class lectures were extremely helpful and I felt well-prepared for each exam.
Good professor. Breaks it down for you and simplifies it to help you better understand it. Could be difficult at first to understand. Good modules if you prefer to read. Straight forward professor and class
Josh is a good professor, and I do recommend taking his class if you are okay with doing a LOT of work. Everything is laid out in a very organized way on Canvas, which makes it easy to follow, just be prepared to carve out a significant amount of time to work on it. The course moves very fast at times, so tutoring helps. This isn't an easy A class.
Good professor and class, I found this class to be interesting and not boring. The class has a certain amount of projects to be done depending the grade you choose to receive but overall great class and the homework was structured well where it helped me study and do better on exams. Overall great class, I do recommend!
As one who struggles w/ math, stats class was very helpful and easy to navigate. Offers extra credit, interesting grading technique. He wants you to pass, definitely. I felt like sometimes he talked in circles, but he just wants you to understand. No paper notes, but in-class slideshows. No crazy einstein formulas, just a chill math class. HOMEWORK
The class work is easy, but be prepared for a lot of it as well as some projects that may be difficult.
Very straight forward when it comes to grading and what is expected in the class.Consists of taking notes and working with groups to figure out problems. Multiple group projects but manageable and flexible with extensions. If you show up to class it will be very easy to get through with a good grade.
Josh is a solid stats professor. He makes what is expected of us clear, but also achievable. There is a lot of homework, but not an absurd amount. I would recommend taking his class.
Good professor, great class, moderate amount of homework not too bad, helps with the exams, group work, projects not Too much. Overall reccomend
Professor Robles is pretty straightforward with the expectation he has of the overall class. He assigns a lot of homework, discussion posts, and in class projects. Although, he does provide a lot of work it prepares you for the exams. He does provide a in class tutor which is helpful.
Professor Robles is a caring teacher who really wants his students to succeed. Succeed in not only his class, but in life. He encourages his students to look into their potential job fields and even offers extra credit to help yourself and your future. He's also a younger professor that is able to relate well to his students.
If your learning style is step by step then this is the class for you. Yes there is group work/projects which are all done in class but the turn in assignment is done independently so your grade won't depend on the overall group. Exams are extremely similar to the work content in Canvas, but he allows a "cheat sheet" for exams!
The structure of the class and the method Professor Josh teaches the class is very easy to understand most of the time, and in case you get behind with something there is always the option to ask for help from the tutor that is present in each class, personally this has helped me a lot because I don't do very well in this type of classes.
It seems like a lot of homework at first, but they are small quizzes and if you understand the material well you can get it done quickly. The exams are extremely similar to the homework and his lectures are very easy to follow and understand. He gives a lot of examples of how we can use statistics in the real world which is nice. Very understanding
Professor Josh's class is highly interactive and collaborative, with a tutor available when the professor is not. I recommend taking this class, even if you struggle with math, as he explains well and cares about your learning. Make sure to attend all classes to stay on track with the material.
I really did enjoy Josh's class, his lectures and notes are very direct and easy to follow and understand. It is a lot of work outside the class but it easy to follow and just takes a lot of time. Overall he is a great professor.
Overall, a great professor. He takes the time to explain anything you don't understand. However, the content is dense, so paying attention and attending all classes is crucial. The exams are very straightforward. By doing the homework, and paying attention, you'll be ready. An unexpected perk: you get to borrow an iPad for the semester!
Honestly he's a really great professor. In-class group work was awkward at first, but by the end of the semester everyone knows each other well and it makes a very supportive (dare i say fun) learning environment. He also really knows his stuff. The lectures are clear and surprisingly easy to follow. Office hours very helpful as well.
The textbook is online and the professor will provide it for you to take notes in class, each unit will have a check point that will be very helpful for the exams. There is always the option to ask the tutors for help but most of the time you will probably be fine with attending all the lectures. I highly recommend you take this class.
Taking the statistics class with Professor Robles was an enjoyable experience. His focus on group work really made the subject easier to handle. He was always available to answer questions and provide clarity when questions arose. He has the option of extra credit projects which is a big plus. :)
just study and pay attention in class. teacher gives alot of chance to get your grade up.
just study and pay attention . gives alot of chance to get up your grade
Pay attention in class and study. A lot of chance to get your grade up.
Professor Josh was a good professor. Recommend you take his course if you want to understand well.
Good and easy to understand, not too much hw
very understanding and keeps class engaged in lectures. exams are the same as the homework. You'll probably need to buy statcrunch though.
Good professor. Would take the class again
Professor Josh focuses more on the application of Stats rather than just throwing a bunch of math formulas your way. Overall that was really helpful because I understand Stats better than I would with just being given formulas.
Just make sure to do your work and get an A for the class. This is a really easy test as class and he has a unique way of grading so just put in some effort and its easy to get a good grade.
Great teacher I recommend to take this class
If you are someone who struggle with math this would be a good class to take. Lectures are easy to follow as well to access during and after class. HomeWork is based on what is discussed in class. This class is straight forward to pass, show up to lecture and do the work which is not a lot to do to begin with.
I would take this class again
Professor Robles is a good professor. Be ready for tons of homework. There are some 150 pieces of homework throughout the semester. While not a tough grader it is easy to fall behind especially if you do not show up to class.
Prof. Josh is a very good speaker when it comes to his lectures. He provides a lot of resources such as Canvas and Goodnotes and makes sure the work is easy to understand. He usually assigns a lot of homework but it gets easier as the class progresses. Tests usually cover a lot of the unit so be prepared to study a lot. Overall, good class!
In Professor Robles' Stat050 class you will learn about stats. Not only will you learn about stats but you will be able to see how stats is incorporated into everyday life. Professor Robles teaches you how to analyze & understand why instead of just plugging numbers into a formula and moving on. Lots to learn for an introductory class.
The class is structured very differently from your typical math class but its a good different in my opinion. There is a requirement for each grade in regards to homework, quizzes, test, and projects. Its not based on percent when it comes to everything other than the tests its based on completion. Overall, I enjoyed this class and would recommend.
His grading is not purely based on points. You HAVE to complete projects, group work, and quizzes in addition to the chapter exams if you want to receive a high grade in the class. If you are good at self-study, this class should be a breeze
read the relevant textbook sections before you go into class or you will suffer. do the homework so that you build the muscle memory for the test problems, but expect the tests to be a bit more confusing than you expect
He is nice to learn, test grade is not hard
the way you learn in this class is different than normal. he emphasizes his "preview/review" method where you should read the upcoming chapter and go over the previous chapter to make sure that you understand the concepts. tests are hard but you dont need to score as high to get the grade you want
The professor is good. But if you major in stem, maybe it is not your first choice.
His teaching approach is different from what I am used to for learning Math but it is not like bad difference. You got to solve problems in new topic as a group after he gives lecture or explain with notes about that topic. Tips: better to catch up the topic daily after his class to get more understanding on the topic.
His teaching approach for Math is different from what I am used to for learning Math but it was a good experience too since we have to do some problems as a group after he gave lectures and notes about the new topic. The good thing he is accessible during that to ask or calrify. Tip: Make sure to study back after each class time to catch up.
honestly, i chose the class for the ztc option but it proved to be more difficult than i expected. his teaching style is meant to encourage us to study on our own while class time is more supplementary in nature. on the other hand, he makes it very clear the quality of work he expects you to turn in if you are aiming for a specific grade
Taking Prof. Robles' calc course was a unique experience. His innovative teaching methods, including presentations, group work, projects, and exams, made learning engaging. Effectiveness may vary per student. His dedication to innovative teaching is interesting.
His teaching style is very different from most math teachers I've had in the past. I suggest you review chapters before entering class.
Very good professor, but you will have to
Great teacher, very kind and would help you a lot if needed, do come to office hours
Professor Robles' approach to teaching involved a lot more independent study than I was used to. Granted, there was a lot of content to cover with not much class time. If you aren't keeping up with your studies, you can easily fall behind
it is tough to learn from just class because he explains things in a roundabout way. he has external notes and videos to help you learn on your own but i had an easier time looking up the concepts on youtube for most sections
He would talk about your current grade and assess the future to help maintain your grade that you will select at the start of the class. Do believe that you will have to be very consistent, on homework and self/group projects. Although, it can be self taught and independent and if you need help due show up to class. Overall, good and easy class.
He uses a contract based grading system. You need to fulfill certain requirements (number of projects, number of hw assignments, get a minimum score on tests) to get a grade but that also make it's really clear where you stand in the class. He's also very concept heavy and puts emphasis on comprehension and projects so you understand the material.
He gives a very broad idea of what is going to be on the tests and tells us about problems that might show up. Sometimes, the problems that he says to work on end up not being on the test. Otherwise, he is a solid teacher who is very knowledgeable about calculus, and you can do well as long as you are consistent and attend the lectures.
A kind professor
This professor is the start of a new way of learning and teaching. He utilizes projects instead of solving a ton of questions.
Please do not take his class! He is a tough grader, he doesn't explain anything, and when you ask questions about the material, he doesn't give a straight answer. Don't believe the majority of the good reviews, he promised extra credit to everyone who wrote a good review. Unless you want to teach yourself everything, do not take his class.
I wouldn't recommend this professor. There is a TON of homework, sometimes 20+ assignments due in one night. Half the lectures wouldn't make sense, and he would move on quickly. Questions wouldn't really be answered, and most times, his answers would create more confusion. BTW, extra credit was given for writing good reviews.
Don't take this professor, wasn't helpful, ton of homework/projects, had very short attitude with those who didn't understand everything right away. Wouldn't recommend if math isn't your strong suit, only brightside was EC that he offered, even though that didn't help much. EC was offered for good reviews, not much though.
talks so fast and just breeze through class discussions without caring if the students understand, can be really rude at times, dont take this class
Taking stats with Professor Josh has been great so far! I have taken stats before with other Professors and failed because they didn't break it down well enough for me to understand. Josh's teaching methods have really helped me understand stats. The homework assignments are set up like small quizzes, so they are really good exam practice.
Great Professor!
Professor Josh is the best ever, kind, patient, understanding, willing to help. The only stats professor I had that really cared!
Exams and homework was straight forward and organized. Lots of reading and notes
was terrified bc reviews+failed all math in hs+hadnt taken math in 3yrs: pls dont believe the bad reviews! hes @ at explaining once he understands how u perceived it. HW was quick, 99% multiple choice. lots of makeup tests+EC to improve grades. test answers literally in the HW mostly. btw he didn't bribe EC for good reviews, he's just the GOAT!!!!!
Prof. uses contract based grading instead of cumulative. Three exams (retakes) plus Finals (Not bad, but still requires studying). Lots of Group work (make some friends, it helps). Has some projects (pretty easy). Has you attempt problems first before he explains (at times frustrating). Overall good professor and good class, would recommend.
Have a contract that you need to sign an A, B, C... grade A must finish 2 solo projects B only 1 U must follow the contract, or may not get what you want. Good thing: The Tests and Quizzes are the same as the HW no need to worry about the questions or answers. Retake: same question and answer Have questions, go to the MSC bulling he will help you.
Have a contract that u need to sign an A,B,C Grade A must finish 2 solo projects B only 1 u must follow the contract or may not get what u want. Good thing: The Tests and Quizzes are the same as the canvas no need to worry about the questions or answers. Really good professor and makes things clear. Grading is kinda weird but just do the HW and Quizzes and study for the exams and you'll be fine. 3 exams and 1 final and allows retakes for the exams. Allows cheat sheets on exams and the final but make sure you study and pay attention to the lectures.
Professor Josh is a professor that actually cares about your success. He sat down with me and helped me discuss transferring and my future classes for probably close to 2 hours, giving me great advice and helping me figure out my goals. Calculus is not an easy class, and I never liked math. However Josh made it enjoyable to learn and rewarding.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes you sign a contract for a specific grade that you want and you just have to put in the effort to do it. He usually makes you go up to the boards and do work with people and it gives you a chance to practice and connect with classmates. He lets you retake tests/quizzes 10/10 recommend.
As someone who has previously perceived calculus as the boogeyman Josh set a welcoming and collaborative environment in his class. He's very understanding and is willing help students succeed in his class. He makes calculus approachable and fun. Point based grade contract, allows quiz/exam retakes, very wise. I definitely recommend him.
I definitely recommend taking him. You will be signing a contract on what grade you want. Most of your efforts will be on participation and group work (meet new people), extra credit (if you come to class early), projects (easy to do). and homework (you can get an extension for one week). He does let you retake the exams and quizzes. Study hard!
He was an okay teacher. Since this was a hybrid course there was a lot of homework. However most of the grading was based on the exam and final. Grading was a bit confusing but the quality of this class wasn't so bad. For the exams you get a cheat sheet but then again, the grading is based on exams and not homework.
Contract grades so if you get A's on everything except for 1 exam, you get a B. But exams are easy if yoyu do the homework. Open note too. And your're allowed 1 retake with the same questions, but no notes. It was a hybrid summer course so it was definitely a burnout. But fun class overall, Josh is the goat!
I took Professor Joshua's summer hybrid class (he prefers to be called Joshua instead lol) and really enjoyed it. Be prepared for homework. Make sure you do the checkpoint assignments because he bases a lot of the exam material on them. He is genuinely inspirational, fun to talk to, and cares about his students. He's the GOAT!

had him for precalc/MATH4z. he has a very straightforward and dry personality, doesnt give room to ask questions during lecture. available outside of class tho. lots of useless homework and the tests throw you off because the lecture doesn't prepare for it. LOTS of group work. personally, his class didnt prep me much and wasnt worth the stress.
Professor Robles was amazing, I took the math 4z course, there was a lot of group work which I think helped a lot with learning certain units. Really caring about his students and grading was really easy to understand with a simple format. Homework almost weekly but really helped when it came to test days.
Great professor explanations are mostly clear, though sometimes they need extra clarification. He is very accessible both in and outside class. He assigns many tasks but most are extra credit. Grading is fair and he allows exam retakes. Important to complete journals, videos, and group projects. Another thing I took him on math 4Z. I recommend him.
In this MATH 4Z class, prepped me for MATH 05A. Today was a good day, we went over many transformations. and he broke it down in a simple slow way. I dont need to memorize the Unit Circle no mas.His grading was straight forward and fair. The extra credit opportunities we easily availble and engaging towards Mathematics and STEM based majors.
I signed up for his Math 4Z class and truthfully one of the best math teachers at the school. He helps each student understand the information thoroughly. He gives a lot of opportunities to earn extra credit, projects and even retakes. He is a fair and respectable, respect him and he will respect you. He wants you to learn and pass!
This rating is for Math 004Z. As someone who hasn't taken math in a few years and entered the course with little to no algebra 2 education, I can say this was an excellent choice for me to build my math skills without pressure. The grading is clear from the start; sign a grading contract with the grade you want in the class.
Took him for Math 004Z/Pre-Calc. The grading system will either mess you up or help you. It depends on if you do the homework on time and weekly, journals, and projects. The homework will also help you to be semi-prepared for the tests. If you are good at doing homeowrk on time and keeping up with online assignments your good.
I took Professor Josh for MATH4Z. He is good at teaching the information and there's videos outside of class as well. There are a lot of assignments but it's easy to get them done for full credit because you can redo problrms and there is extra credit. Overall easy class you just have to actually do the work. This is a forced rating by him for EC.
The group work is nice and assignments are simple and manageable. Does not really gives a lot of notes for lessons in class so it can be somewhat annoying to try to write down/take notes for the lesson. Overall, enjoy the work aspect but not the notes.
Great professor for Math 4Z. The class is a solid refresher of high school math with some new topics to prepare for Math 5A. He's firm with grading, but gives many chances to raise your grade. Overall easy class as long as you keep up with the homework.
I took his Math 4Z course. This class had a lot of group activities, a good amount of homework every week, and allowed for cheat sheets and retakes for every exam. The point of the course is to prepare you for Calculus, and i'd recommend it. Getting a good grade is very easy if you take the time to complete the assignments.
Makes you sign a contract that gives you a list things to do & what you need to score on exams to get the grade you want. Gives a lot of EC that's mostly worth a point or two. EC for coming to class early. Cheat sheets for exams and no cheat sheet on retake. Sometimes the way he lectures can be confusing. Forced us to write a review for points lol
Overall the class is good. He gives out many assignments throughout the week so it can be easy to fall behind, so it it's important to be concurrent on the homework that he gives out. His grading is not the same as any other professor so be prepared for that but it's nothing to really worry about.
Math 4Z. I've always hated/struggled with math. I felt like this class was very informative and I learned a lot from it. I really recommend taking this professor if you are struggling in math.
I took this professor for Math 004Z. I think this class is overall an okay class. He encourages class participation and group activities. The tests were difficult but all of the questions were on the study guides. Lectures were a little confusing so be ready to depend on videos. However grading was very confusing!
I took Math 4Z with him. He's a good teacher because he always helps students to overcome difficulties and offers every student opportunities to make progress.
Very kind, he's my professor for 4Z but it wasn't an option. He's a great professor, he really puts a lot of time into his lectures.Lots of homework so just be aware of that however its manageable.Tests are pretty much the homework so if you practice them its a breeze. Plus there's plenty of extra credit just opportunities. Definitely recommend!
