Mean, and uses a true grading curve (if everyone got a 90, they'd get a C)
He was very helpful to my group and even assisted us with our project.I though Curve grading was great; if you're actual grade is c, then there's a possibility that you can get a b. Do great on the first exam! Make a good impression-it will really help.
Had him for Calc 1, was hard but helpful (Sometimes). If you are good at math in general he is challenging enough for you, If not find someone easier!
seems nice but really plays games, in how he presents lectures, and tests. Doesnt grade evenly. Expects you to know a lot of stuff without proper presentation! If your great at math its fine, otherwise find another teacher!!
Calculus I. A very knowledgeable teacher but dosen't explain things very well. Test questions are much harder than the examples he goes over in class. Grades on a true curve. Do not take unless you can learn math on your own.
Not very clear, makes it much more difficult than it is. He put advanced calc on the test for a basic calc 1 class!!! Oh, and he we had no tests until the end of the term, and he gave us 3 in a row. Unless you want a challange, do not take this teacher
Calc. I. What can I say - 3 test all at the end of semester and the class average for all the test was 39 out of 100. He does grade on a curve but even with that 10 F's in my class. Problems on test are much harder than examples he does in class.
no longer doing a bell curve! he now grades on a solid block: 80-100=A, 70-79=B,60-69=C,etc. Gives interesting lectures and one class each week is dedicated to homework time where you can earn extra credit! Also allows extra credit for attending events outside of class. His accent is not difficult to understand and his class is great! Very fair.
Don't take this class unless you intend to work hard. You MUST come to class,do your homework, and be brave enough to ask questions in class if you don't understand. For extra credit, you can work hw probs on the board (be brave..do it!). He grades on a nice curve (80+ is an A). It was hard, but I really enjoyed the class. It was very interesting.
Don't take if you don't like math. I do. He was very interesting, unusual teacher. I enjoyed.
Very hard class. I did horrible on tests, but plenty of extra credit is available to boost your grades. You have to do your homework, go to class, and to Q and A's if you want to do well. He is very friendly and funny, may seem a little intimidating , but if you need help then you should seek it after class.
Don't let his tests get you down. His tests are impossible for everyone, not just you. If you work hard, it is possible to go from an F to an A. Gives plenty of chances for you to bring up your grade so there are no worries. Even gives you an option to retake 2 of your previous exams. Great teacher
Good teacher. He makes you think a lot and wants you to look at other perspectives. He is very nice and friendly. However, his class can be very stressful. You go through the semester not really knowing what your grade is. I enjoyed the class, but it stressed. It is not an "easy A", there is work involved, but it is an "achievable A."
Forget the accent, his grading makes up for it. Tests are tough (even open book), but the final consists of re-taking 2 tests. All homework counts as extra credit. Big extra credit assignment at end of semester.
Not an easy class, but if you work for it there is no reason not to get an A. His goal is fo ryou to learn the material and he could care less about a grading system. Lots of extra credit opportunitys, but remember, you will work very VERY hard for this class, but you will get so much out of it. Very few people didn't have an A at the end.
this is not the teacher to take for anyone who cannot learn math on their own. the tests are impossible because they are so much harder than the examples given in class, and it gives you a feeling of false confidence. very funny in his own way. passionate about math, but not for anyone who doesn't have a strong math background.
Don't Take him! His tests are 4 to 10 questions that are endless. Can use notes and gives extra credit.
he is very difficult. He actually started teaching calculus for the first two cycles and then the trig.If you plan on taking him then make sure you plan on going to the math lab twice as often as you take his class and take advantage of the extra credit. Tests only has 5ques ea.So if you miss a ques you're basically screwed but can makeup 2 on final
I will never take another one of his classes. Unless you're already good at math don't take him. He does offer a lot of extra credit but i didn't learn anything..and spent a lot of time in the math lab along with the rest of my class
i loved his class!!! ton of extra credit you can get! class is still hard you have to get close to the math lab and the people in it. it doesnt matter if you fail all of his test the extra credit can make up for it. final is just redoing two of his test with just different numbers and you dont even have to do it.
Finally, a place to vent...Although, he offers extra credit, which got me the A, he does not know how to teach students. He was a high level of thinking that goes beyond trig. He expects you to know things and if you dont he makes you feel like a TOTAL idot in front of the whole class! He DOES NOT give you examples that help with the homework.
I love math and planned on being a math major until I took this class. The hardest class Ive ever taken when it comes to math. He is very monotone and doesnt teach you. Its hard to actually learn and he expects you to know everything hes teaching. Tests are impossible and nothing like the homework.
As a teacher he could be better. Not overly helpful with much anything and good luck if you have a question. Test scores don't matter - just do tons of extra credit and you'll get at least a B. In my class we had 15 A's, 3 B's, 7 F's and a lot of W's all with test averages below 30. Not recommended but if you can't get around him he is passable.
As a person he is nice and funny, but as a professor he is HARD! I suggest never take his class during the summer. All the extra credit talked about from other students is non existant. The HW counts for most of your grade and he doesn't use a text book so you can't get help. The math lab didn't even know how to solve most of his problems.
Tons of extra credit. Besides the people who dropped out and quit coming, everyone in my class got an A except for two people that got B's. If you have the time to dedicate to doing extra credit, you'll be fine, otherwise, it could be pretty tough.
Harder than necessary. Really critical with grading, not much partial credit on tests, but more than enough extra credit to pass his class. I love math but i hated taking his class.
If you are not a math major, and work full time DO NOT TAKE HIM...the only way to pass is with the extra credits, it requires you to attend MathTalk during the day. Open book, notes, computer, internet...except cell-phone.
He made the class so difficult - and it didn't have to be. I am a math major and found this class almost impossible. Run!!
makes the class ridiculously hard for no reason, if you fail the test you still pass. Worst math teacher at Kennesaw!!!!!!!!!!
He made this class so much harder than it should be. He shows such favoritism to certain students, that if anyone else tries to answer he will put them down and make them feel bad for even talking. The tests and homework were impossible.
I had him for Statistics and Calculus. I don't think this professor was hard, but I certainly think the material was! However, like anything in life - if it's hard, it means you might be learning something! His examples and homework problems would clearly illustrate the flaws in our logic or questions. I feel much more prepared for the next level.
Awful Prof!!! And hes the only one teaching this class. So you have to take him if your majoring in math. Calls the same people over and over do the extra credit thats the only way you will pass.
This class is hard, especially when you have to type all your assignments. He gives out a lot of extra credit, so get all your points at possible that will help.
worst prof in ksu....i ma beggin ya'll dont take him @ allllllll...u will regret it...i was told n dint listen n now i see myself getting an f...i have never made not even a c in any class and i am soon to be a junior...bt i think i will make an f in this class....be warned he's the worst prof....
Very challenging professor, but the only way he will let you fail is if you simply don't try. There's tons of extra credit so that even if you do fail something you can make up for it. One thing that I did think was slightly annoying was that he wants everything typed; other than that I learned a lot from him.
Extremely hard. If you have kids, a job, or a life at all, don't take this class. Not impossible to get an A, so stick it out until the end of the semester no matter what. He can be mean, but he's trying to help you become a better learner. He's not the worst teacher, but you definitely have to earn the grade you get. Good luck!
THE WORST PROFESSOR I ever had -unorganized, it looks like he himself doesn't know what he is going to talk about; not helpful - no pre-test reviews or post tests or assigments explanations, very few examples, lectures are not related to the assigments, arrogant, often ignores students questions, you get extra credit if don't have daytime job. RUN!!
He is a good professor and he knows what he is talking about. I would not recommend this class to anyone who was not a math major, for it is not an easy class. He gives very hard test and homework, and requires everything to be typed up that is turned it. He also gives lots of chances to get extra credit.
classroom setting very hostile! he goes by point system. you get points from tests, hw, and presenting hw in class or telling someone else they are wrong when they present. no partial credit and points are VERY hard to get. students jump at each others throats for points by telling the presenter they are wrong. derado is also rude and condecending.
This is the worse professor i have ever had! unless you have all the time in the world (homework assignments can take up to 15 hours to figure out and then he requires that you type it too). he gives you extremely difficult graded homework assignments without teaching the material first (so i had to google it) and he does not give partial credit.
This class is hard! You have to pay attention and write down everything he says. I always leave class confused. I am an A student and will be lucky to get a B.
Nice guy but extremely hard teacher. The class is extremely competitive and you must do the extra credit in order to get an A. If you live for math this is the class for you otherwise I would try everything I could to take another professor.
Terrible class. He goes off a points system which is nice because you can't lose points, only gain them. But to receive an A you will need to present in front of the class multiple times and criticize other students. Very competitive class. He teaches for the "upper" students only. Tests are basically impossible. Try to avoid.
you're either going to love or hate him. he is hard, but he gives you every opportunity to make a good grade in the class. I was working full time and in school full time and while the class was time consuming and challenging it is not impossible. love the grading system. loved him.
Amazing teacher. Emphasizes class interaction and discussion. Goes on a point system, but class is not as competitive as others make it seem to be. There are enough points from classwork alone to get WAY over an A+. He is very intelligent and very fair. He has high mathematical standards, but gives RIDICULOUS amounts of extra credit opportunities.

This class is very challenging, and he uses a unique grading style. It seems next to impossible to meet the required points to get an A at first, but there are numerous opportunities at the end of the semester to get lots of points. If you pay attention do presentations, it is easy to get a "B".
Not an easy class. He has his own ways of teaching and unique grading system which worked out very well. Attendance is not mandatory, but you don't want to miss single class, If you want high score. Easy to get score from presentations. He covers more materials compare other professors and you will be more than ready for Linear Algebra2 at the end.

Attendance- not mandatory, but you dont want to miss single class unless you dont care about score. Easy to score thru presentation. He covers more materials compare other professors and you will be more than ready for higher courses at the end.
he is a very good professors and he knows how many of his students are working hard and who are not, his points system makes students to learn more present more and talk more in class at first it may seem that the points are easy to get but in the middle it does get hard but he gives a lot of opportunities to bring ur grade up work with his pace
He is a very good teacher for calc 2. he makes the subject easier and his grading system is very intimidating as you want to attend the class because to get more points it helps in learning new stuff too. he knows his stuff and covers more material too. at first it may seem that it is an easy A no but need work with his pace and you are good to go
Extremely difficult tests and hw. The professor knows his material but can not always explain in the easiest way. Make sure to get a LOT of practice for tests and participate every chance you get in class.
Hard homework, hard tests. Grading system is cumulative points & you can't lose them once earned. He gives no partial credits though, so earning points is tough. I had never had Calculus before, and I learned a lot. But I still only got a C, which is disproportional to the amount of work I put into this class.
Very smart, but doesn't have the best teaching method for this subject. He writes mostly proofs so when an assignment or test comes up, you're screwed. I wouldn't recommend him for Linear Algebra
Great Professor! Goes in depth with calculus and you will learn alot! I recommend him if you are a math major! or atleast are intrested in mathematics.
Good: All his tests are open book/internet, has a grouping system to give ppl appropriately hard problems based on their previous work. BAD: Not good at explaining ideas clearly(im a math mjr) u get points for going to mathtalk/capstone, but if u have class u have an unfair DISadvantage. Ppl way worse at math than me did better b/c they could go.
he does not use a book at all, says that "any calc book will work" so if you get to use a book on the test, its pointless, the internet for the tests are also pointless, so you have to know the material, and he does not do a good job of teaching it to you. so you must learn on your own. take another proff. like berman, ji, babenko, laval.
He has his own teaching method, which scares the living crap out of students throughout the semester, but will start giving assigments and tests more often towards the end of the semester.
Was scared away for 2 years b/c of comments here. Took a diff prof for this class & failed. Never got below a B in math in my life. Took Derado & got an A. Nuff said. Show up & actively participate in class, & take notes & a B is an automatic. You can use any & all books, notes, computer, etc for tests & assignments are take home. Def Recommend
Overall an easy class if you PARTICIPATE and do your homework, but a lot of not so easy content to cover.
I got an easy A in the class, but I couldn't tell you a single thing I learned because every assignment/test is open notes/book/internet. Also have to be willing to answer questions/problems on the board to get points for your grade. If you genuinely need to learn calc, I wouldn't recommend him..
The basis of the class is proofs and presentation. So you could expect to have to present proofs. If you do this you can get an easy A and even finish early because of the point system. Struggling and staring at math problems for an hour is the only way to learn proofs
Grade determined by a points system, tests aren't required. If you participate in class regularly you will get an A and finish class early. I finished ~6 weeks early. He expects the students to teach each other and acts more as a guide for the class. When he teaches he is very well spoken. Very sarcastic and funny! Wouldn't recommend for calc!
I found this class VERY challenging.Only good thing about his grading is that you do not lose points, can only earn points towards your final grade.I did not like his teaching styles;sends other students up to the board to solve problems and sometimes they were just as confused as I was.You will not need a book in this class.DON'T RECOMMEND!
This class will make you THINK. The professor works on a point system so don't miss out and PARTICIPATE! Also, keep up with the assignments and class. Don't miss unless you ABSOLUTELY have to.
Very unattentative professor using students to teach while he played with a rubix cube. Caused much confusion to everyone. Entire class was in math lab for help. Bad example for a professor.
This class works on a point system. As long as you participate & do the homework you should be OK. I'm good at math, so this was easier for me. He teaches, but then likes to have the students teach a problem and become the teacher to other students. This does make you think! I really like is he makes you understand WHY you do something. Good class.
AMAZING. If you are a math person you will absolutely love him because he explains concepts pretty well, and he uses a point system which is almost nothing to worry about! Participate somewhat, do the assignments, and you're going to get a B without trying. I learned a lot because I enjoyed his teaching although it was different. Would recommend!
Sends other students up to board to teach and that usually left me more confused then when we started. Never had to come to class but i always did and still struggled throughout the semester. The point system of grading he uses is only good to you if you have prior knowledge to the material so you could go up to the board and teach the class.
This class was relatively easy. The class is based on a point system. You must get 120 points to make an A. Pretty much everything gets you points: assignments, exams, answering questions. It's an alright system. The thing I dislike the most about the class is that he has students teach. Which ultimily does not facilitate learning.
Dr. Derado used a point system that makes it very easy to do well in this class even if you don't understand the material 100% of the time. Points can be earned by going to "Math Talks," answering questions in class, and on assignments and tests. He also allows you to use any resource (including Wolfram Alpha) on assignments and tests.
I took Professor Derado for MATH 2390. Participation matters so much in this class. He has a point system, and can be stingy about points. Nice guy. Will help if you ask for it. 2 tests, midterm and final. final looks almost exactly like the final. Assignment give you a lot of points, if you know the material. Never used a book.
Great class. Difficult subject. He makes it easy to understand the concepts, and he will go over it as thoroughly as needed. Grades in a way that makes it so easy to get a B and a little challenging to get an A. I never used any books, took notes on what I needed, and passed with an A. Assignments are CRUCIAL. Do not feel discouraged by the tests.
Easiest Calculus class if you actually participate. There will be no homework overload, no forced textbook purchase or no boring lectures. You can not "lose" points and it is possible to guarantee an A without even taking the final. The student-given lectures are a source of controversy but if you defeat your public speech anxiety, it will be easy.
Honestly one of the easiest class I've taken, especially if you like math. Its Stress Free, but you have to pay attention. He helps you if you need it. Ask questions if you are confused he will go over it. Its also good to get in his good graces, do so by participating. You can do nothing until the last month and still make a B in his class.
pay attention and you'll pass
Dont let the bad reviews scare you, if you take him you will pass, but you have to work for the A. If you are shy and wont participate in class DO NOT take him! It will be almost impossible to get an A if you do not participate so in that case you need to show up for class. Nice and funny guy! I would definitely take him again!
Class structure isn't suited for math or science majors. You are told to use online software to find answers. If you're good at math, take this class. If this is a terminal math class for you, take it; easy A as long as you are active in class.
Since this class is based off of participation I struggled to maintain my B because I am shy. As I grew in his class I became more open to ask him questions and he was more than willing to help! His class is not just based off of what you learn in class you also need to be self motivated and learn at home.
He has an accent, but it is easy to understand him. All grades during summer semester come from participation and online assignments. If you do not like working problems out in front of class, then you will not do well in this class. He does not give extra credit on anything, so getting points on assignments is difficult.
The tests are all based on the homework and the in class assignments. So if you go to class, participate, do homework, you will do just fine. He is a fair grader, funny and approachable. Lots of opportunities to make a great grade.
Steer clear from this class if you are shy! I cannot emphasize that point enough! Most of your points can and will be earned through classroom participation, allowing one to theoretically pass the class using only that method. He also doesn't teach through conventional means, and relies solely on the knowledge of his students to carry the class.
Barely teaches the class and chooses to have students teach the class. Better hope the students that decide to go up actually know what they're doing or you're stuck erasing until somebody gets the right answer. If you have to take his class, coast in the "lower" group for the semester. You earn the same amount of points for less work.
Stay away from him. Worst class I have ever taken. His notes are from his mouth and most of your grades come from participation. His assignments and labs are hard as heck. There are no book to help you and his lectures are useless in helping most of the assignments and labs.
please do not take this professor i am telling you, because you gone cry like baby. 1st he do not use textbook at all. 2nd his grading system is so complicated 3rd no exam at all 4th the only time you will get grade is when you do group work and class participation , i mean this guy use some kind of middle school teaching technique , boring class
ATTENTION: PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. YOU WILL FILL LIKE IN MIDDLE CLASS . HIS CLASS IS SO BORING AND HIS GRADING IS SO COMPLICATED
The most confusing professor I ever know
Please do not waste your time and money with this professor
Avoid if possible. Uses a unique currency-like points system that would be alright if the professor wasn't so proficient at lazily avoiding teaching the class how to do the problems he assigns. No partial credit. He seems to look for excuses to give no points on assignments and most points are lost due to inadequate instructions.
You shouldn't believe everything that's posted here, but Dr. Derado is still pretty bad. His weird "points" system results in either getting full credit for a problem, or none. (He once gave me a zero on an assignment because I gave too much information.) He's also condescending when you ask questions, and his problem wordings are often ambiguous.
You know that song "In The End," by Linkin Park? That's the song I think about every time I see my grade in this class. Anyways, avoid this class at all costs. Most of your points can be earn by simply participating, but it's still harder than it sounds. He gives rigorous assignments every other week, and he only gives out two hard exams.
He has an unique point based system which only helps you. The best way to get points is with participating in class and do the group work. Ask many questions during the group work and he will guide you to the correct answer. His mid term was hard but he put up a slightly altered version of it online for you to work. I would recommend.
I'm 98% sure all the reviews from this semester are from two people reposting over and over. Prof Derado is awesome. His point grading system mean youre grade can only ever go up. There is literally no penalty for missing assignments or doing poorly on a test. Points can be earned through participation, homework problems and tests. Very low stress.
this guy is not suppose to be a college processor at all. I mean he suppose to be kinder garden teacher. this is college! the way he teach is so confusing, I mean he do not teach at all, cuz student learn each other and he stand in the front to watch. I mean give me a break, we pay our money to get education right? so I am telling u before u cry
Guy gives a pop quiz within the first 20 minutes of class on the first day that is worth points. He has a very poorly structured currency grading system and tells you to submit homework via Microsoft word. Beware!
Easy A class, if you participate during the lecture he will give you points. you might get an A before the ends of the semester and probably focus on your other classes.
If you find yourself unfortunate enough to land in this man's class, know that you are taking the second worst math professor on campus. He will give you a graded and unannounced pop-quiz the first day that is worth points. Your homework must be submitted via Microsoft word including all worked steps of the problem.
He isn't completely terrible. He's just lazy, and has an *eccentric* teaching method. As long as you attempt every single assignment, collaborate with the people around you, and do extremely well on the midterm you'll be fine. However if you do take him, make sure you have Friday's off, because that's when you can get extra credit. GO TO CLASS!!!!!
Dr. Derado has a very unique grading scheme. It ends up making receiving a good grade in the course rather simple. If you show up, participate, and do some of the required work, you will pass. The professor is very interested in the history of mathematics. His eyes light up whenever he talks of such things. That is always fun.
His point grading system mean youre grade can only go up. There is literally no penalty for missing assignments or doing poorly on a test. Points can be earned through participation, homework problems and tests. Very low stress. He does not care. It is quite wonderful. Take him in a heavy load course. Easiest class thus far. JUST SHOW UP
I actually quite enjoyed this class because I had an amazing group and felt like I could go to others with questions. Sometimes what you have to do on assignments could be clearer, but in the end, if you show up with a good attitude and at least try you will be completely fine. Just have a good attitude and he'll like you. He's great!
I took his probablity class in the spring and scraped a B. He has a very thick Russian-like accent which can be hard to understand at times. Papers/tests are written by him and can be hard to decipher due to the poor english. Also there's no central work for his class which makes it difficult to learn concepts outside of what he puts on the board.
This professor is great. This is my second semester in a row taking him and I've enjoyed both of them. He's kind, fun, and I always feel like I'm going to be successful in the class even if I don't completely understand all of it. I've made some of the best friends I've met here through his group projects. You'll really enjoy his class.
Active learning class. Requires the student to put in effort and is not spoon fed. This is not an issue for students trying to learn. There is a lot of group work, so team up w/ another good student. The grading is black or white. It's completely right or wrong, so be precise and clear.
Very unique grading system where nothing counts against you. For example, going up to the board to solve a problem, 3 points. Group worksheets worth 10-20 points handed out each week, and whatever points you get gets added to your grade. Plenty of people earned B's in like 2 months and stopped coming. Super easy, but didn't learn much.
"Low stress" is the best way to describe any class taught by him. You can earn an A or B before the semester is over & stop coming (attendance is optional). Tbh, I didn't learn much at all from him but got an A. If youre just taking him for fun and want an A, then do it. But if you're like a math major and NEED to know this stuff, DO NOT take him.
