Just don't. You'll probably regret it. He doesn't explain the material he tests on and spends most of the class on a soap box about one thing or another. And he made me feel dumb for asking questions.
Like to be frustrated? Then maybe you will be one of the few to enjoy this experience. Never knew where I stood; Always a sinking-stomach feeling. Wouldn't recommend for the faint-of-heart or those who want to feel like they are learning.
UNPREPARED for class and refuses to prepare students. Steers students in wrong direction...better off not going to office for help. Feel like I want to hurl when I leave class after each session...time better spent sleeping.
This all depends on the course he is teaching. He is a good teacher when he is teaching a course that he wants to teach or one in his field of interest - primarily math modeling and differential equations. I've heard the horror stories, but have no prob
Okay lets just say I stayed in his class for one day! "I don't teach the material to you, I show you how it should be done." And he launched into this big speech about why people don't like him as a person. Who Cares!
An exercise in futility. Spent 1/2 a semester on 2 weeks' material; received out majority of our grades on the days before the final as last test occured late; didn't cover 1/2 the course. Not recommended for those who like to learn/not have ulcers.
Gets upset at students wehen they don't get concepts in class. Makes people feel stupid for asking quetions. Don't take if you can help it.
Very unclear about the material that he teaches. Tests are like nothing that is assigned in the homework. Our class is on chapter three right now and were supposed to be in chapter 6 by the end of the semester, which is 3 1/2 weeks away.DO NOT TAKE.
Very unclear about concepts, presents them but never explains them. Tests are about 3 times harder than the material discussed in class or in the book.
Dunno what's up with all the low ratings. I had Dr. Jossy for Calc 2 and Linear Algebra and thought he was an excellent instructor. Yes, he made you work for your grade but you were guaranteed to learn in his class! His ability as a teacher really shined when you'd see him in his office for help!
Calculus 2 was very hard with Dr. Uvah. But i think he is a great professor. I think if you work hard and let him know that your working hard in his class he will give you the grade he thinks you deserves.
AT LEAST 15 MINUTES LATE TO CLASS EVERYTIME! DR. UVAH IS A SMART MAN, IF YOU DON'T THINK SO, TALK TO HIM FOR 5 MINUTES AND HE WILL TELL YOU HOW SMART HE IS. TESTS ARE NOT AT ALL LIKE CLASSROOM DISCUSSION. POOR JOB OF EXPLANATION. DON'T DARE ASK HIM FOR HELP, IT WILL ONLY MAKE MATTERS WORSE. FRIENDLY WARNING: AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

He is The best instructor that I have in Mat curses. I have a hard time in the beggining of the class because my background was not good enough. I got A in the others test, and I am doing very good in the Electrical Engineering programs. I recomend UVAH for how is interesing to learn.
just dont take him
best teacher I have ever had. Not an easy class though
I had a little difficulty understanding him at first but a really good teacher once you get used to his accent. Really Hard though!!! You must really know your stuff to pass.
I took this class over the summer and this guy was a tough professor but he knew his stuff very well and I learned a lot even though I got a C. If you do more homework than he assigns and learn the terminology you'll be fine.
I wouldn't say he's really a horrible teacher.. It's just a hard class! You'll get bored sometimes..(-_-)zZz His quizzes aren't TOO hard if you do your homework and study. It's the tests that can really hurt you. It's a HUGE part of your grade and they are more difficult than the homework and quizzes. Getting on his good side will help! =P
BUS CALC____ DONT TAKE HIM. In a class of about 40 students we had 27 F grades in the first test. Lowest grade was 3%. NOT A JOKE! He is always late, DONT ASK HIM A QUESTION, "I will show you where the math lab is after class". It is better if you just try to learn by yourself reading the book.
He knows what he is doing, but he does not know how to teach at all. Will not work a problem for you if he has worked one like it before. I'm a EEL student at UWF and this guy is the worst teacher I have ever had by far. Do not take this class from this guy unless you have to.
Jossy's the best math teacher I've ever had. He teaches using concepts and examples that really do help you learn Cal II. DO THE HOMEWORK, attend every class, pay attention and TAKE NOTES (especially on the important things he points out) and you'll do fine in the course. The tests can be deceptively difficult; don't forget your Cal I.
has no teaching ability what so ever ..does not teach you all material just expects you too see everything and ace all his tests which he grades different than he speaks
The class is going to be hard no matter who you take. However Uvah makes it pretty fun and if you go to class every day (trust me don't miss a class. hard to catch up) and do your homework you'll do fine. You may not make an A but you'll pass.
Horrible!!!!! He said, "I don't tutor students thats why we have a math lab."
Horrible. Upset when asked questions, loves to rant, does not help with multiples of problems. Intelligent, and therefore hates answering questions "not for this class." Merciless when it comes to grades, and expects you to remember everything from every other math class you've taken. Take anyone else for Calc 1.
Worst teacher ever. I strongly recommend to not take him. He has no teaching abilities and gets pissed off if you ask him questions. He is totally unrelaible and his tests are totaly different from what he teaches. I'd shoot myself if i had to take him again!!!!111
Took jossy for cal 2. i thought his class as easy. He has a little bit of an accent (he's from africa). The hwk isnt checked till the end of the semester but he give u answers to it. there are 3 tests and a final. final has 3 sections, u take it all or the section for the test u did bad on. im taking him for DE
He does not make points to what he is explaining clear. You never know what he is doing, he does not explain himself well.
Don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for Jossy, he's a great teacher. Just stay up with the class, do your homework, etc, and you'll be fine if you ASK QUESTIONS WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO! He won't answer questions from 3 sections back, which people seem to not like here. If you can't keep up, get out. Will take him again hopefully!
Worst teacher ever. The class was hard, his teaching methods were poor, and I failed every test. Keep up with the homework, come to class, and don't ever get behind and you may be able to pass. I went to the labs, studied really hard, and tried my best, but it just wasn't the class for me. Brush up on your algebra if you don't remember it!
Jossy is the man.
He is the rudest teacher I've ever had. He actually tried to justify his rudeness by saying it was beneficial to his students!! Very unhelpful and loves to go on tangents about how great a teacher he thinks he is. His tests aren't too bad if you keep up with the homework. He is very smart and knows the subject well but he has no people skills
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Any tangents he has are either amusing or wholly motivating. Very serious toward education... I feel as though I came out of his course knowing the material (despite having failed). And somehow, I knew I hadn't deserved any better... as if I could have done better with what he taught me. DO THE HOMEWORK!!
Jossy is the best teacher I have ever had in all of schooling. He explains the concepts so well that it's a breeze when studying. Attend every class and do the HW immediately after the corresponding lecture. He's always relating teaching/learning methods with "going to the beach" and other anecdotes. But this is not an easy breeze through with an A
Spends more time justifying why he will not be teaching things you should already know (in his opinion). He'll spend 40 minutes on the actual material. He'll then ask if anyone has questions. IF you do & he thinks it's a "hold my hand question" he'll proceed to eat clock like you've never seen to justify why he will not be answering that question.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. Te be fair, some days I've enjoyed the class, but he is not clear sometimes and not helpful when students ask questions. What he's said to some students discouraged me asking questions. I watch other colleges lectures on youtube to understand the material better.
He's a good teacher, it's just not an easy class. If you do the HW and attend all the lectures you will pass no problem. You REALLY need to spend the time to study for this class. His exams are hard, but his quizzes prep you for them. Show your "spark" in the final, and you'll do fine. DO THE HW, then "go to the beach!"
In the classroom, Dr. Uvah has little patience for those who have not mastered prerequisite material, and no tolerance for those who do not take his class seriously. His demeanor and method of lecture are stern, but interspersed with comic relief. Outside of the classroom, he is an entirely different man; charismatic, charitable and wise.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I'm having to withdraw for the first time in college. If you have to take him, I would definitely recommend devoting an entire day of studying each week to this class. This guy has the pedal floored and you need to stay focused to keep up.
I have to admit Dr. Uvah is tough but he is definitely the BEST math professor ever! I worked really hard for my B+ but it is not always about the grade. I've learn more from him than all the classes I have had combined. He is unique and one of a kind. We need more professors like him that makes our diploma worth more than just a piece of paper.
Great teacher. If you don't do well its because of either two things 1.) you don't spend the time needed for the class, or 2.) you don't do his homework
great teacher. This guy knows his stuff, and if you are taking him for advanced calculus, just pay attention. He pretty much tells you what is going to be on the test.
Dr. Uvah is the man. Definitely not an easy A, but if you get an A in his class you will be ready for all your courses that utilize calculus.
EXTREMELY hard to stay focused and follow along in his class. I consider myself to be a great math student, but I was always lost in his class. He spends most of his class telling stories or doing something else completely random. He doesn't work enough examples, and shows too many ways to work a problem. On the lighter side, he is extremely funny!
Well he may be a funny guy helacks in a lot of other areas. He eats up class time preaching when students ask questions they should already know. We spent around 40min of him yelling about a function when the time could have been utilizied with example. There are much better teachers in the math department no matter how great his knowledge is.
SUPPPPPPPPPPER NICE. BEST TEACHER EVER.
Dr. Uvah is a great teacher. Easy to understand. If you pay attention, then you'll have an A.
Dr. Uvah is probably my favorite teacher at UWF. He has a strong, deep voice that's very easy to hear and understand. He teaches you everything you will need to know for exams, and doesn't waste time in class going over multiple examples of the same material. Great teacher with reasonable expectations for students taking differential equations.
Good professor, but then again I like math and physics. I feel he explains everything clear if you don't think so it's because you didn't have a full grasp on your prerequisite. I will be taking him again this summer for Diff Equations
Great class. Uvah was very great teacher. Learned more from incorrect answers than correct ones. Wanted everyone to learn. Does not like to give grades. Walked into final with no idea what my grade was, performed poorly on final, then was given A-. Very lenient
Not flexible, no additional help, does the bear minimum, self involved, and rude. Poor at explaining the topics. Cut and dry is his style. If you do not need any instruction, this is the professor to take.
Study study study Cal 2 isn't a joke, go to class and know your cal 1. Great teacher, quizzes are very hard but the test are much easier, if you study for them.
Of all the mistakes I have made in life, taking his class would be in my top three. Not very lenient (will mark you wrong if the answer is not the way HE wants it). If he is the only option for the class, take it somewhere else.
Calc 2 is tough. I've taken Tone and LaForte at UWF for Calc, and Jossy is by far the best. Ignore the naysayers. This isn't easy material, and Uvah does a fantastic job of explaining the material. The only con is he IS impatient and I can see him being intimidating. But even when he's frustrated, he still does his best to answer the question.
Professor is terrible. He thinks so highly of himself that he refuses to truly answer questions or show complete examples. 20/35 students FAILED his first test. The class before the next test, he promised to have previous assignments graded. He did not. He also did NOT REVIEW, but wasted the class and went an extra ten minutes, too. He needs to go.
Cal 2 is a hard class and Dr Uvah does a great job teaching the class. Do not miss a single class. I could not imagine taking cal 2 with anyone else. He expects you to know your stuff so you WILL leave his class knowing what you are talking about. He make math class interesting which is hard to do.
Tough teacher but great too. Enjoyed this class even though it's one of the dreaded ones for a math major. So, tough teacher with high standards but will make you learn and remember the material.
Yeah, it's hard... if you have never studied before. He brings people who think they are all that back down to earth. Study and you'll do well, and go to his office to ask questions. For DE, don't buy the textbook. "It was written by an engineer".
Exceptional teacher! Was very thorough and articulated himself very well. He seemed to have an analogy for every lesson. This made the material relatable and easy to understand. I went into Cal 2 thinking it would be very tough but found myself getting As on all the tests very easily. Make sure you keep up with the HW so you can go to the beach.
Excellent Teacher. Clear and concise. Doesn't baby students, expects them to know prereqs. Do the homework, pay attention and you'll do fine.
I have had Uvah my last two semesters and I'm sad I won't have him this semester. He pushed me harder than any other professor because he truly believes in his students. Cal II was hard but it's supposed to be. DE with him has been my favorite class so far. I recommend him to students who actually want to be challenged.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He is VERY INFLEXIBLE! Treats graduate students like children! He will NOT HELP YOU! A good teacher is willing to be flexible and help students. He will NOT answer any questions outside of class. He is rude and does not care about students.
Dr Uvah is very helpful, even outside of class. LOOK IN YOUR NOTES before asking a question he may have already answered! And come to class prepared for new material. If you're a grad student, DON'T EXPECT him explain Calculus concepts (this would be ridiculous). Be an adult & do what you're supposed to & you'll be fine.
Teaches in what I call parables and he calls stupid stories designed to assist in recalling concepts, methods, and development of formulas. Really neat, clear-cut classes, and extensive office hours. Definitely recommend for cal II.
Great class great teacher, he will tell great stories and you'll remember them.
Interesting teacher who makes an already hard subject and makes it even more difficult. Jossy is the hardest grader I have ever had. His lectures are interesting but expects you to already know and remember so much and will not spend any time refreshing. If you take his class get familiar with Kahn Academy and Professor Leonard on youtube.
He gives adequate examples in class, assigns homework (if you choose to blow off the homework, expect poor quiztest grades). He uses a tough love approach and has humoroushelpful anecdotes. His class is demanding, but not unreasonable. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere - if you want to learn, this is the professor for you.
Difficult class made harder by a difficult teacher. Jossy is very hard to understand and sometimes talks in ways that are impossible to follow. Definitely would not recommend this class with this professor.
Jossy was tough. He forces you to attend class by not posting his lectures or recordings and then by the end does not follow through on examples. If you are unsure of elementary material DO NOT ASK HIM TO CLARIFY. He will belittle you. At the end of the day you do learn a lot but for convenience pick a different PDE teacher.
Worst math class experience ever. I have taken many online math courses. The medium was awful ( loud buzzing was fixed but sound quality still poor- easy to miss stuff and no recordings provided). The teacher was worse. Unhelpful, condescending and rude "he's tenured" says a lot. Few basic examples - do not prepare you. Outsourced a lot to learn.
Prof. Uvah was one of my favorite professors. If you show an interest in the course, he'll provide deeper insight to the material, and if you really try, you will pass.
i think he is a great teacher, at first, i do not like him, he talks a lot at first class, and i almost drop his class, i am so happy i did not, because he explain everything so clearly, and the test is really simple, if you pay attention during the class, you will pass the class with an A+.
He gave absolutely NO feedback on any of our assignments this semester. I'm about to take the final exam and turn in a project, and have no idea if he is satisfied with the level of my work so far. It is very frustrating. He rambles on and on, ends class late, and doesn't let people ask questions. The work is not too hard, but he is annoying.
He was by far one of my favorite professors. Yes, his class was very tough, but Calc2 is referred to as the "monster of math" no matter who you take it with. He had a very clear and to-the-point teaching style. His stories to go along with lessons were very funny. He is an amazing professor and cares about your grade, but YOU have to care too.
Anyone that says Jossy is a bad teacher, is a bad student. He is the best teacher I have ever taken. Yes, he is intimidating, but he loves teaching and his students. It is teachers like Jossy that inspire people to become STEM majors. His class is hard, but you will never learn more from another teacher. If you don't take Jossy, you're wrong.
AMAZING. His examples are exactly his test questions with the numbers changed and his expectations are laid out all semester. He tries his best to explain things in a way that relates to you, not just using the textbook definition. I wish I could take him for every class. Go to class, study, and take good notes and you'll ace it!
Jossy is a great person to have instructing you in Cal 2 because he will always explain a problem to you out of class. In class he's going full throttle because of the amount of material to cover. Biggest tip: copy his examples and write your own explanation of the material to the side of it because he won't do more than one problem of it's type.
An example of a professor overly concerned with his dramatics, rather than making the material accessible for the students. His method of teaching is very intense, juxtaposed with his odd sense of humor, which is received with nervously forced laughter. His ramblings are mostly nonsensical and unnecessary, and he takes himself too seriously.
one of the best math prof. ever. Please attend his class and I assure you will pass with A.
Best mathematics teacher you will ever have. He would show exactly why each equation is
The class was very difficult but still passable. He's a pretty good teacher though he tends to go off on random tangents. My main issue with him was that he was EXTREMELY rude to students when they asked questions in class. I have a feeling that he felt we were all idiots. TONS of useless homework that almost never shows up on tests.
No one can teach Calc like Dr. Uvah. His ability to explain Calc 2 topics in the most straight forward way in amazing. That being said dont ask any stupid questions in class or you will catch a rude side of Uvah. You will be accountable for everything you learned prior to his class. I would strongly suggest against taking with stuff like UP1
Took him for calc 2, and he is very harsh and straighfoward. However, he knows his material and is overall a great person, so he will go the extra mile for you, all you have to do is ask. In class, because he doesn't want to be behind schedule and he wants everyone to be on the same page, dont ask a silly question, but his office hours are for you.
Amazing professor. Took the class multiple times but with Jossy it was the first time I truly understood the material. He is extremely descriptive on how math works and why it works the way it does and he is very good at explaining what we did wrong on exams. As long as you put in work in the class and do the homework, you are sure to pass.
Knows what he is talking about and is very descriptive. Gave a 2 because he is not kind nor nice to students. Tells you to ask questions but gets angry that you ask a stupid question. Makes it hard for students to ask questions in fear of being called out.
Look. He is not an easy professor, but without a doubt, you WILL know the material by the end of the semester. It's daunting but ask him questions if you are confused. Take the time to digest the material and you are fine. If you value your education over an "easy A" take Uvah.
Does not explain very well in class. Spends half of his time talking about things that do not matter to the subject. You will be spending hours learning on your own outside of class to make up for his rambling about how "students must pay attention!". Do yourself a favor and do not take this professor.
He is a hard and has high expectations. However, I believe he is a fantastic teacher that knows his stuff. He does expect you to know cal 1 frontwards and back, but he does give you some room to let him know what you don't know. Again, he is hard, but if you study enough and talk to him about what you are lacking, he will be there.
I learned a lot about differential equations, but I don't feel like my grades reflect that because he is a ruthless grader. However, taking his course definitely did make me a better student and I am glad I had the experience. He is clearly an expert in his field. Do not take differential equations if you cannot do integrals. You will be sorry.
Egotistical, outdated. His class was mentally and emotionally draining. Didn't even have Pearson set to the correct time zone. His biweekly "quizzes" are tests. Our grade was 95% quiz and 5% hw and he is a very stern grader who wants very specific answers. Please save yourself the money, headache, and mental health. Left class crying many times.
Best math professor that I've ever had. Go to class and do the homework, and you will learn.
Professor Uvah has an exceptional understanding of mathematics and a clear passion for teaching. As he says, he is not a jailer- attendance is not graded; but to get the most out of the class, lectures & the supplemental exercises are crucial. I failed due to external circumstances this semester, but I think he did a good job as a professor.
