AMAZING TEACHER. He wants to give all students A's. Attend class! If he remembers you he'll give you extra points and "boosters" at the end. He is very helpful and extremely nice!
JD is awesome i recommend him!! He truly cares if you pass or not and is super awesome:)
BEYOND AMAZING!!! So is so kind and says very encouraging things during class. he always says "dont let a grade determine who you are, you wont even remember this in a few years" he wants to see everyone succeed! And the rest are hard my test average was a 60 but he takes care of everyone! DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO GET HIM AS A PROF!
JD is by far the nicest professor and one of the nicest people I have ever met. He wants you to succeed and will make sure you do if you put in the effort. Get him if you can.
JD was SUPER nice!! I went to his office hours and got to know him and he really helped my grade out. He LOVES his students and always says that he wants to give A's and B's.
BEST PROF FOR MATH 151!! He is very generous and wants to help you. Go to office hours if you have the smallest question. He wants to know who you are and if he knows you the better you are! Probably getting an A in this class because of you and i have never taken calculus before.
He is an amazing professor but his tests are a whole lot harder than the homework and the quizzes. Be ready to actually try to understand.
JD is an amazing prof. He noticed the grades for the class was not where they needed to be so he changed the homework (which is very easy) to almost half the grade. He is very helpful and wants to give everyone an A. His week-in reviews are very helpful. The only reason i did not make an A in this class is because i did not study at all.
JD was a great professor personality-wise, but when it came to teaching I was confused most of the time. This was his first time teaching 150, so he wasn't as clear as he could've been. There are a lot of homework problems, usually due every TuesdayThursday. You'll take quizzes in recitation, have three midterms and a final.
JD is a very good teacher. He really cares about the well being of his students. His class, however, Isn't that easy and he doesn't curve. Great choice of a professor.
He definitely has the best lectures for MATH I have met.
J.D. is a very helpful professor. He communicates well with his students (responds to emails, updates his webpage, makes time for office hours). Going to every class is important (pop quizzes) and the optional week in review sessions will really save you come test time. He's good at explaining the concepts and actually cares about his students.
JD is seriously the best! Hilarious guy and cares so much about the class. The material is hard and he goes fast but he wants you to do well! He gives a 5% boost to your grade if your final test is higher than your 3 tests averaged together. He doesn't curve the tests but curves your grade at the end! Super nice guy and I would take him again.
Awesome Professor! He really cares about his students and wants them to do good. I highly recommend taking a class with JD.
JD is awesome!! He is the BEST teacher. Not only does he care so much about all his students, he is always willing to help. He really cares about how everyone does. He wants to give all A's and B's. He always says that a grade should not define us, but he does his best to give you the grade you EARN. Never took calculus in high school, but its good
JD is an awesome prof! He is so helpful and really wants to see his students do well. The material is hard and there is a lot of homework and weekly quizzes. But he does week in reviews that are very helpful. He does curve if your final exam grade is higher than the other 3 tests. Overall great class! Would definitely recommend him!
JD Kim is hilarious and cares a lot about his students success in their academic career. Lectures are clear and he offers help. The class overall was not very difficult if you had taken Calc AB or BC in high school, but there a a few new material that can be taught easily. Great guy overall !
JD is THE best. I would take his class again and would recommend him everyone. He really cares about his students, wants them to do well, and makes sure everyone understands everything. He is a great person and he is hilarious! I always look forward to this lecture and am never even tempted to sleep.
He's cool
I never have any preCal class in high school. I knew absolutely nothing about Calculus. But I get pretty good scores on the exam because JD explains everything well. HE IS THE BEST! He is a friend that understand you and is always willing to be there for you, helping you to succeed in math.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE JD KIM!!! Nicest man on campus. completely brightens students days with his amazing personality and kind spirit. Not to mention he is a very entertaining professor who cares about all aspects of his job, the teaching, communication, and the responsibility to care and love all of his students. Hoping that I get him again next year!
JD is one of the best instructors I've ever had in my life. Although I took Calculus in high school and coasted through this course, even people who did not take Calculus prior did well also. His notes and lectures are easy to understand, and his exams are based on examples from notes and homework. He cares about each one of his students, too!
JD is absolutely the best 151 prof out there. He really cares about his students and makes it clear that he is always their for us. His positive attitude and love for his students make a great learning environment and he makes everything very easy to understand. He is hilarious and I wish I could take him next semester.
JD Kim is such a caring and nice professor. He goes out of his way to make sure we were always prepared for the exams. I liked that in his lectures he gave us exactly the type of problems that were on the exam and on the homework. He posts the notes online which is super helpful. I wish he taught math 152 that would be amazing.
JD is an amazing teacher. Engineering calculus isn't easy but he is willing to give you everything you need to do well. He has some accent but its perfectly understandable. Gives reasonable homework and is very helpful at office hours.
JD is the best cal 151 prof there is. You will get used to his accent and learn to enjoy his hilarious mannerisms. He gives a "booster" if you're final grade is higher than your tests average. He really cares about his students and i loved how he sneaked in his christian faith into his calculus lectures.
BEST MATH PROF EVER. I'm not a morning person, but I loved going to his class because it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. He wants to be more than just your teacher - he wants to be your friend. The course is very fast paced, but he is always available outside of class if you don't understand something. TAKE MATH WITH JD!
Easily my favorite professor I've had at TAMU. He is very inspirational, and totally there to help you as a student. His class sections had the highest test averages in the University my semester. He does everything he can to help you and is very good at helping develop a problem-solving mindset. Lots of homework though and a tough final exam.
HE WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH. All of the other students that I know who had him enjoyed his class! Of course he has to go rather quickly to cover all of the material but if you have a question during class, he will do his very best to make you understand. Does his best to make sure each of his students get the grade they want. Amazing professor.
This guy is hilarious. Pretty easy grader. You get the grade that you put in the work for. Definitely go to office hours just to know him.
JD is great!!!! he really cares and this is a professor you will really learn with, he is Asian however not a heavy accent and he makes it duper simple to learn. also you can talk with him and get to know him ENGINEERING MAJOR TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
Great professor. I told BC calculus, so the class was an easy A for me, but even if it's not his averages were way above the other sections. He offers lots of resources and cares a lot about his students. Take him if you can. I would retake him in every class, but do make sure you show up and study. It's really important for the first exam.
JD was AMAZING. After a first failed attempt at 151 due to a bad prof I was nervous about re-taking the course. JD really cares about your grade and will try his hardest to give you the grade you deserve. He doesn't curve the class but he does provide a "booster" at the end of the course to help out the students who improved.
He is a great professor, and actually teaches the class. Sometimes he is hard to understand, but he uploads all of his notes to his website. He also sends out great reviews before the test, that are extremely helpful.
JD is the best math prof I've ever had, make sure you to class, not because he takes attendance, but because he's actually really amazing and really passionate about what he's teaching. He loves math and loves his students and he's willing to push back homework if you're honest with him about why. Also, he sends out the most helpful reviews ever!
A+ would take this professor again, for every math class i have to take if i could.
MATH151 is tough in general but JD made it easier to come to class. He really wants to help his students out and you can tell he actually cares. He puts a lot of effort in to making sure you understand the material and his accent isn't that tough to understand. Would HIGHLY recommend him!
I had to retake 151 and JD explained the material so much better than my first prof. I definitely recommend taking JD because he really cares about his students and how you are doing. If you don't understand something go to his office hours and he will help you figure out the problem and explain it thoroughly. Great prof!
Hands down the best professor ever. He genuinely cares about your success and treats you like a good friend. He is a great person and a passionate teacher. He makes sure you understand the concepts and is always there to help. He tries to best of his abilities to help you earn the grade you want. He is just amazing. He made 151 so much less painful
I can go on and on about what an amazing prof JD is. Just take him! you won't regret it.
I really loved taking his class! This is my second time taking this course and I attribute a lot of the the credit for my grade to how great a teacher he is! Also, even though the attendance isn't mandatory, you should still go! And don't skimp on the studying.
JD was an incredible instructor. He taught a little fast at times but always made sure he could help students who had questions
An overall well-respected man. Always cares about your grades and teaches the material very well. He also has really great jokes during his lectures.
Best professor I've ever had at A&M. He cares about his students and their success. He's a great person and teacher. He explains the concepts in depth and helps students understand why and not just how. If you attend class homework and the common exams will be easy. I absolutely loved him. If you can take him as a professor please do!!!!
Incredibly great professor and really funny. Has the highest test averages out of all the Math 151 classes.
Really cool dude! I'm not a math person so I did very poor but that doesn't make him a bad proff! He's caring and very energetic!
Amazing proffesor and amazing guy. Truly cares about his students and makes lecture (relatively) interesting.
JD is my favorite professor I've ever had. I hate math but I would be a math major if I could take him every semester. He really cares about his students and his lectures are really entertaining. He posts all the notes online so it's ok if you miss a class. He also has the highest test averages out of all the professors on the common exams. 10/10
JD Kim is one of the best math professors at Texas A&M, and the best teacher I've ever had. He's an incredible man, loves his students. Teaches in a way that makes a lot of sense. Really cares that you do well in the class. Get him if you can
JD Kim is my favorite prof. He provides a pdf of weekly notes that you can print and follow along with in class. He doesn't take attendance but I highly recommend attending class. He seems to really care about his students and how they do in the class. Definitely get him if you can.
JD is an amazing professor that I would recommend to all. He is so sweet and kind, and constantly tells us that we are more than a test grade. He prepares us very well for the tests with very good (and entertaining) examples. He was truly a blessing to my freshman year.
JD is the BEST professor I've had at A&M; not only does he teach the material in a way that's easy to understand for everybody, but he really cares about each and every single student. His humor makes the lectures fun and he always offers kind words of encouragement. If you keep up with homework then tests aren't too difficult. Everyone!! Take JD!!
Great teacher teaching material that is very difficult for some students. I wasn't very good in Calc one but KD made it bearable and was a very real blessing for my first semester of college. I would 10/10 recommend him if you can take him. Cares about his students and is a great person overall.
Dr. Kim was an amazing professor. You could tell instantly that he cared enormously about his students, and he seemed to work very hard to me. He was very clear and easy to understand (despite an accent). He was always willing to help, and he seemed very driven. I would absolutely take his class again, and I would recommend him to anyone.
JD is the sweetest professor and also really funny. Definitely recommend taking him! And for the class it is harder than calculus in high school so do not underestimate it.. you need to study and do the previous common exams and you'll be fine.
Dr. Kim was a very great professor for me. He is a very kind and caring professor who likes to tell stories. He is great at making the class laugh, relax, and feel at ease. The tests are hard, and the class pace is fast, but Dr. Kim himself is a great Professor who I would gladly have again.
JD goes through a lot of examples during class and posts clear notes online. His class is well organized and he works hard to prepare his students for the tests. He is also very kind and understanding.
JD is an amazing professor. He genuinely cares for his students and he teaches the material very well. He is so funny and makes the class very entertaining. Sometimes he teaches fast, but he makes sure everyone understands the material before each test. I would definitely recommend taking JD!
TAKE JD KIM. I cannot stress this enough! He is by far one of the most respected math professors I know - many of my friends who didn't have him would go to his help sessions. He truly cares about his students' success. I love him so much and I wish he would teach all the math courses so I could take him again! 10/10 recommend! LOVE YA JD. 3
JD Kim is my second favorite Math professor - behind Ben Lynch, but JD Kim is hilarious and makes his class fun. He dropped 3 homeworks, 2 quizzes, and 1 lab at the end of the semester. He's probably the best Math 151 teacher at TAMU. TAKE HIM
Take JD! He cares so much about every single one of his students and he knows his subject inside and out. If you are ever confused about anything he went over in class (he moves a little fast during lecture) GO TO OFFICE HOURS he is seriously the most approachable person at A&M I wish I could take every single math class with him.
His common exams are difficult and there is always a lot of homework. I would recommend taking him however because he probably is the best professor at TAMU. Make no mistake however, this class is difficult.
JD is THE BEST PROF. Im not even exaggerating, he knows all the material very well & while he knows its a more challenging class, he tries his best to keep his students engaged. He's super accessible for office hours & is really helpful during them. He goes fast in class b/c of everything he needs to cover but posts everything online so its fine.
JD is by far the BEST math professor that I have ever had. He is so genuine and really cares about his students. I promise, you want him to be your professor. He will help you so much in preparation for the test, unlike a lot of the other professors. There is a lot of homework and the tests are challenging, but with JD as your prof, you can do it!
JD is by far the best professor I've had. I did not deserve an A in that class but I got one anyways. He does literally everything he can to give you the best grade possible. He cares about his students and the curriculum. He's a really funny guy and tries his best to make boring and difficult concepts fun and easy to understand.
Attendance optional but if you don't go you will miss all the information. His tests are all similar to hw and his reviews. Yes, he does leaver homework but most of it is similar to the problems he goes over in class. He is a caring professor and gives extra points as long as he sees you try! Gives really good feedback and makes sure you understand
JD Kim has significantly more passion for his job compared to any other professor I have had at any institution. However, I was struggled to excel in his course, and to this day I'm not sure why. Maybe it was his accent (challenge to understand), or teaching style... regardless my opinion of him is that he's not be bad, he's just not good either.
Best. Professor. Ever. So so patient, he worked with me to get an A as if I was his only student and he had all the time in the world to make sure I understood the concepts. He cares about his students so much, you will not regret taking this class with him!
Yes, he leaves a lot of homework but it all counts when the tests come around. His reviews for the tests help A LOT! Has amazing lectures and you rather be there to get all the notes. With that being said, be ready to write cause he goes faster than normal which is good cause he stays on track. Has great sense of humor and will keep you awake!
JD is the best math prof I have ever had. He truly cares about his students and gives a ton of opportunities to better your grade throughout the year. His lectures are so good that students from other profs skip their own lecture to come to JD's, and you get over the accent fairly easily. If you can get him 110% do!!
JD is one of the most caring professors I've met on campus. He wants his students to succeed and will help you achieve the best grade possible in his class. He makes lectures entertaining, and prepares those who go to class for any sort of question that may be given on a test. JD is one of the best professors A&M has to offer, take him.
I loved JD! He is the best professor for math 151. Take him if you have the chance! Easy to understand, funny, lectures are lively, he also boosts your confidence greatly. Feels like being a part of a math family in his class. Take him no one I know has had a bad experience with him :) Love you JD!
Professor Kim is willing to help any of his students outside of class, extensively, if you need it, and does everything he can to pass his students that put in the work.
J.D. Kim is definitely the best MATH 151 professor you can take. He is extremely caring and makes sure that all his students understand the material. Students from other professors eventually go to his lectures because he is the best. He makes class entertaining, posts all notes online, and helps you get the grade you want if you put in the want.
Dr. Kim is completely literate and understandable, so don't worry about taking him since he is foreign. I can't begin how to tell you how good of a professor he is. You will know and understand everything, and be a master in this class when you are done. He knows how to teach and he knows how to help you succeed.
JD is my favorite mathematics professor ever! Every class he works out examples the whole time taking the smallest amount of time to explain new concepts, but he explains so well! He will stay after to explain something to you if you need. Take his class! Go to his week in review even if you can't get into his class! He posts in class notes online!
JD's lectures are really fast. If you didn't take Calculus in high school I wouldn't recommend him. otherwise, he's great
JD is hands down the best prof here. He goes through notes super quick but he posts slides online. His reviews are lifesavers! He is the most caring person I've met and he makes calculus fun and engaging. He is hilarious and loves to crack jokes in the middle of lecture. I wish all of my profs were like him.
JD is an incredible guy and a great professor. He posts his notes online before class and then posts the filled in notes after class. He is by far the best prof for MATH 151; I had friends with other professors that not only used his notes but sat in on his class. He cares about his students and explains the concept in an easy to understand way.
Great Professor, definitely take him if you want to actually learn calculus while getting a great grade.
JD is literally the best. He teaches the course really well and he is the most friendly, caring, and hilarious guy! His lectures were never boring, and he is always open for questions and he gives his all in his lectures! He gives out positive vibes always! I wouldn't have wanted to take this course with any other professor! I recommend him 110%!
JD is the best professor ever! He is hilarious and definitely the best MATH 151 prof there is. He makes calculus fun and is a really stand up guy. The common exams are hard for everyone but JD's students always get a higher average than the rest of the students.
He knows how to teach. You will definitely learn a lot from him if you are willing to learn. He is absolutely the best math teacher I've had in my life so far.
JD is the coolest math professor you will probably take. If your looking for a good Math 151 teacher take him. He gives the best tricks and everyone wants him. People from other lectures come to his class; thats how good he his.
Dr. Kim's lectures consist of examples which cover all the topics that are on the exams. He posts the notes online before lecture and I would recommend printing them out and taking notes directly on them. The online homework can be repetitive if you already understand a topic, but is also a good study tool. Overall, this is a good calculus class.
Best professor of my freshman fall semester. JD cares about his students so much, he REALLY wants everyone to get an A but its up to you to show him you want it. His lectures are very easy to follow and he posts super helpful test reviews before each test, so show up lectures to get the link. He is super funny and integrates cute stories into calc
JD is a MUST TAKE! He is super helpful and is willing to stay after to sit with you through problems you struggle on. He loves his students and cares so much about us! If you ever walk around the campus asking for the best MATH 151 prof, DEFINITELY JD!
I came in to the semester with high expectations of JD, and I was a little bit let down. Don't get me wrong, he was willing to help with anything and was very caring. He is a great man. But when I would ask him what else I could do to get better he would just say don't worry, study. I showed him I was working really hard and didn't give me the B.
JD is the absolute best MATH 151 professor!!! Defiantly take! He makes the tests (common exams for all MATH 151) so he will give you hints and help for the tests. Go to his week in review sessions and the classes he lets you ask questions. He is hilarious and a really nice person. Easy to talk to and accent isn't too hard to get used to.
JD was one of the best profs that I have ever had. He is extremely passionate and caring and does his best to make sure that his students do their very best. I got sick before a big assignment was due and he gave me an extra three days to complete the assignment, with just an email saying I was sick. Love this prof, wish he was teaching 152 and 251
JD shows up prepared for lectures and makes them interesting. You will need to prepare for tests but they are not very hard.
He's a really sweet guy and I'm grateful for curves but I barely passed this class. I did all the mock exams, homework and even went to his office hours but still failed the tests. He kept telling me that he wanted to give me a B and to keep working. It all comes down to understanding the material but with his style of teaching, I couldn't grasp it.
JD is a great guy and really cares about his students. However the class moves at an extremely fast pace and when asked for extra material to practice he didn't have anything. The way he taught I had a hard time differentiating some topics since he would go through them so fast.
JD is am amazing professor, and I would recommend anyone take him for calc 151. He is very passionate about his teachings and students, and only wants success for his students.
JD Kim is honestly the coolest prof you could ever get. He is passionate about math, hilarious, and genuinely cares about his students. I am just bad at calculus in general, yet still managed to nearly get an A. Most of his students do get an A. He is by far the most caring professor I have ever had.
Dr. Kim is the BEST math teacher I have ever experienced! If you want to learn you will learn in his class. He cares about all his students. If everyone at TAMU was half the student centered instructor he is we would all graduate in four years!
If you can take JD then take him. Do not second guess because his class will fill up. He loves his students.
JD is the reason I got out of Engineering. Not because he's a bad professor though, but because the man just loves his students so much and genuinely enjoys teaching. Being in his class made me realize that I didn't want to be an Engineer, I wanted to be a teacher. I'm now an Education major, planning on teaching Math/Physics. Thanks, JD.
JD is amazing. He's such a great man who loves and cares about his students and is pretty nice about giving extensions on the homework as long as you have a good reason. He's a solid choice for calculus!
Hands down one of the best professors at TAMU. Cares about you understanding the material, lectures are amazing, and does everything he can to propel your grade. 100% would recommend him!!
You will never meet another professor who will educate you with such passion in you and his course. Kim will give you every opportunity to pass his course with flying colors it only falls on you to accept his outreached hand.
Great guy who genuinely cares about whether his students pass the class or not. He gives great lectures, and although he does have a bit of an accent, understanding him was not a problem. He always does a great job of prepping students for the exams and gives out a pre-exam study guide which really helps. I would definitely recommend him.
BY FAR THE BEST PROF, I'VE HAD AT TAMU. He loves us so much and wants to make sure that you pass. I hate math, but JD just makes it 1000x better. Always comes to class happy and lectures aren't boring. He's great I love him and if you get the chance to take him you'll feel the same way
JD Kim is amazing! He really cares about his students and knows calculus really well. He can convey difficult concepts really well and understands the material in a complex manner. I hope to get him some day!
JD IS BY FAR THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT A&M! He manages to make math fun, and lectures interesting. His lecture notes and sample tests perfectly prepare you for the common exam I made 100s on the first two exams, and 97s on the third exam and the final. Hes an amazing professor who truly helps people learn and enjoy math.
I love this man! He is great but be careful if you also have other stem courses. He is really caring and will help you. Try to go to his office hours and study all of the past and practice exams, as well as his old week in reviews. His exams are similar to those. Go to as many classes as you can and even stay for the next ones if you don't get it.
JD Kim is by far my favorite professor EVER. He is sooo funny and makes math lectures actually fun and easy to follow. Like any other class, you need to do your homework and do the study guide and you should pass with a good. grade. He genuinely cares for his students and gives life advice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
JD is a great man and is more willing to work with you through difficult material. However, doesn't prepare for exams (which are common/written by other professors). Don't rely on his lectures to do well because most of the class is graded on the tests. He's really nice and chill just do not count on an easy A, especially if new to Calc material.
JD Kim has a way of explaining math that just MAKES SENSE. His hilarious , awkward nature makes him the best professor by far. He is passionate about the material and truly cares for his students. He wants everyone to succeed in his class and goes far and beyond to do everything in his power to make that happen. Week-in-Review sessions are helpful.
Everyone in Math 151 takes the same common exam. As a result, most of the grades are nearly identical across teachers, except for Dr. Kim who has better averages than everyone else. He teaches extremely well, good sense of humor, and made Calculus as enjoyable as it can get. He's got a bit of accent but nothing too extreme.
One of my favorite professors of my first semester at A&M. He is caring, kindhearted, and wonderful. His lectures are very amusing and easy-going. He publishes class notes onto his website so you can review if you miss class or while you do homework. Homework was via WebAssign (buy subscription). Around 4-5 problem sets a week with 8-17 questions.
JD Kim is one of the best math professors at A&M. He's super nice, super funny, and he really cares about his students. I took Calculus in high school so this class was a breeze; that said, if you haven't taken Calc before, maybe look for another professor. He goes EXTREMELY fast during lectures and pretty much expects that you already know it.
JD Kim is best! He makes the hard concepts easy to understand and is hilarious during lecture. The tests are fairly straightforward. He posts notes online which are super helpful if you miss class. Take him!
JD really cares about his students. He REALLY wants everyone to pass and will make sure you get there if you talk to him and are reasonable. Favorite prof this semester!! His lectures are great and he's always trying to relate to his students.
If you don't take his class, you will instantly regret it. People from other professors even come to his because they're that good. He knows how to teach the material in the most creative, hilarious way. He also provides an appropriate amount of practice that will help for the test. He cares about his students genuinely and is willing to help.
Although his accent may be tricky to hear sometime, overall, he's a good prof. who really care about his student. Also, he's very funny and give a lot of help for those who need it. His lecture is always up-to-date with all the new material so if you got sick, no worry. Highly recommend for everyone.
He is incredibly funny and cares for his students' success. His lectures are pretty solid and should be enough for you to do well in this class, but even if you struggle he will do his best to help you as long as you actually try. Overall, he's a great teacher and an even better person!
JD is the best professor I have ever had. Strongly recommend. He is beyond caring for each one of his students, and he is willing to work with them on an individual level. He also gives amazing lectures and really wants his students to succeed. He does have an accent, but is willing to further explain in office hours if the accent causes confusion.
If you couldn't tell by now, JD is the best calc 1 professor at A&m. He is a nut in the best possible way. He cares so much about all of his students and will give you a grade "booster" if he can tell you're trying hard. His lectures are hilarious and very effective. He is your best shot at getting an A in calc 1.
ok jd ACTUALLY cares about you and trying to help you get a good grade, not just understand the material. go to his week in reviews if youre not getting whats going on, jd is so understanding and helpful that if you try you should be able to get a B no matter what. A+ helped me on the common exams because i hadnt taken calc before. take him.
I had a bad calc teacher in HS, so I was worried that 151 would kick my butt, but JD is freaking AMAZING. He moves very fast in his lectures but he's fantastic at teaching and it's obvious he loves and cares for every one of his students. If you actually listen in class and study the past exams before tests, you should easily succeed under JD.
Don't get me wrong when I say JD is a great professor, but the course can be difficult and lectures are fast-paced especially for those of us who had no prior Calculus experience in high school, which is the minority of students taking 151. If you're in this minority you may have to study/prep more etc.
I did not take Calculus in HS and as a result, I had a harder time than most of the people there who had taken Cal in HS, but it wasn't super hard thanks to JD. The lectures are entertaining, and the concepts clearly and memorably explained. Even though I didn't get the grade that reflected how well I know the material, I would take his class again
Super duper nice guy! I enjoyed his lectures, he made them fun! The class was obviously hard, but just be sure you do loads of practice problems and you'll be fine on the test. Many people from other professors attend his lectures because of how good he is, so I would highly recommend JD!
JD Kim is a great professor for MATH 151 if you can manage to find an open section. He is a great lecturer, and offers plenty of opportunities to earn back credit. If you do the homework and show up to lectures, you should do just fine.
He is an amazing math professor! I would recommend to go to his week in reviews even if you feel like you understand the material AND have taken calc before. He will clear up every last question. It helped me for the exams. I also sometimes went to peer tutoring after. I would work on WebAssign and if I ran into issues they could help.
Jd is a God hes an amazing proff. The class is hard but he teaches really well
JD is the best prof I've had so far. He genuinely cares about his students. His lectures have clear examples and he always post his slides with all work on them. As long as you do your homework and study before exams, you'll do great!
I was absolutely new to calculus and was afraid I would end up q-dropping this class but JD made the opposite happen. I assure you his lectures keep you engaged. While JD is an amazing professor, you really need to do your part to get the grade you want. I went to lecture, office hours, help-in sessions, and JD's week-in reviews. Take him for 151!
JD genuinely cares for all of his students. He goes above and beyond just being your Calculus professor. I found his lectures and class notes to be very helpful, as well as his exam reviews. If you do the homework and study class notes and exam reviews well before the exam day, you will be successful.
JD Kim is the definition of a stand up guy. He sees if you're struggling and is willing to help you if you put forth effort. SO glad I was able to take Cal 1 with him because if not I may have not passed. If you do all your assignments and try your absolute best he will be more than happy to help. Love this guy! 10/10
Amazing guy. Keeps lectures interesting and funny. Really does care about his students. Easy to talk to in office hours. Has thick accent, but you almost forget about it.
JD is a very caring and genuinely nice guy. He offers lots of different help and practice. BUT I felt like he was not great at teaching the business calc course. He gets very off topic easily and talks about things unrelated to the course. When he is on topic, he relates subjects to random things and teaches in a very confusing way.
I worked hard, went to lecture, and still struggled like crazy. He was a really nice guy and he cared about his students, but he went so fast through the information that it was nearly impossible to keep up with. He gives little partial credit on the tests, and the tests are nothing like the examples from class or the HW . Don't take him for 142
First of all, one of the nicest and most caring professors ever! JD truly cares about his students! His lectures are hilarious and his jokes break up the extended class time. Averages for my classes tests were extremely low (57,60) however JD ensured we would be taken care of and if we worked hard we could pass, BUT might not get the grade you want
JD Kim is an absolutely beautiful soul. He genuinely cares about his students doing well and it breaks his heart to see them not do so. He tries his best to make the class understandable by making jokes or creating shortcuts to make the problems easier but the content is still hard. He is alway willing to help you study or even just motivate you.
DO NOT TAKE FOR MATH142!!! very nice and kind guy, however he is not great at teaching the business calculus course. a lot of students Q dropped and the grades have been terrible and extremely low averages.
JD Kim is a great professor and he cares about his students, but the course material was very hard and JD teaches very quickly. Tests can be difficult and tricky but he gives you easy opportunities to get extra credit!
It's funny - he won't blow your mind w/insights about fundemental calc. --You will memorize formulas ('tis the way). There's a reason the Math Dept. has him teaching 151/152 (key courses). He remembers what it's like to be a undergraduate student. Remember this guy is well respected and still really cares. Warning: He might invite you to church :/
JD cares so much for his students and their grades, he worked to make sure that we all passed his course. I just remembered some basics from my time in Pre-Cal and Calc and I ran over the sample tests once/twice before the exams and I did fine on them. Test questions are similar to the sample tests and if you understand material you'll be fine.
JD is such a nice professor. He is so sweet and caring, and will do anything to help you pass. I took calc in high school and he really waters down the material so it wasn't too hard for me but it was for some. He is a little difficult to understand but you get used to it. If you sit toward the front you'll be just fine. So encouraging! Take him!!
The online homework was pretty awful, but I don't think he's going to be using it in the future. The class was pretty difficult for me, but his lectures were pretty good as far as math lectures can be.
He's a great guy, very funny and great to be around. He tells his students to not call him his professor but his friend. However, his lectures aren't the greatest. He may spend an entire lecture hour just going over deep concepts that won't show up in the exam and pretty much no one is following him. His online homework is awful too.
JD is one of the best professors I have taken. He makes math easy and he is easy to understand. He cares about all of his students and wants them to succeed. The class is hard and the test averages were low, but if you put in the effort JD WILL REWARD YOU. This man goes above and beyond. Weekly review sessions and TAs very helpful. Take this prof!
Funny, witty, makes the math easy to understand, lenient grader, excellent teacher
JD is one of my favorite professors I have ever had the pleasure to know. Great teacher of calculus, but an even better teacher of life.
I absolutely loved JD! He is the sweetest teacher I have ever had and truly cares about his students and his responsibilities as a professor. Towards the end of the year, I had an 89.50% and he rounded it up to an A. As long as you put in work and be respectful, he will go above and beyond on his part.
Took this class even though I had the AP cred for a gpa boost. Thought it would be an easy A but it was not - you need to work hard and DONT slack off. It is easy to fall behind and even if you already know Calc still pay attention and work hard to secure that A. Great prof, but would get distracted at times during lecture.
Dr. Kim is a nice guy but makes false promises. He talks a LOT about a "Booster" for your grade that acts like it's a letter grade difference.. but then the last week said that it was 3 points if your final exam is greater than the average of the first two exams. He and his proctors did not shut up during tests at all, very distracting!
JD is the BEST professor for MATH152 hands down, however I had to sell my soul just to get a B in the class. This class isn't for everyone and I would honestly avoid it at all costs, however if you have to take it JD will surely give you your best chance at success.
Absolute legend of a professor. Super caring professor, and if you put in the effort, he'll make sure you pass the class. One of the best professors I've taken so far, and if I had the option of taking him for 152, I would do it in a heartbeat. Grades are a combination of quizzes, labs, tests, and homework. Textbook is mandatory due to the HW.
JD Kim is the best math professor at Texas A&M. he is a real gem.
JD is a goat. His lectures are solid and his week in reviews are also very helpful. The course itself isnt bad if you took BC in high school. Even if you struggle if u go to office hours or week in review JD can help a lot. He also cares a lot about his students and tries his best to help his students.
JD is the best professor I have had so far. His class is very organized, yet he still finds time to insert humor into his lectures. Overall, incredible prof for any math class you take with him. I had him for Math 152 as well, and he was awesome! If you want to have fun in your math class, take your math class with JD.
Boring lectures. We progress so slowly that it will be more efficient if i spend the time by myself studying.
Best experience I've had in a math class so far. I lwk feel bad that I don't attend all the lectures because he is so engaging. Also, his week-in-reviews are AMAZING. I suck at math so I had to put in a lot of work but overall the class is ok and the prof was fantastic. Best 151 prof imo.
JD Kim is THE BEST!! You should def take his course! He's probably one of the best professors/teachers I've ever had, and he made the class extremely easy. Go to week-in-review before exams, it's a great way to study and have fun. JD cares a lot about his students and he has office hours like every day so he's also very accessible outside of class.
Overall, this class was harder than I thought it would be since I took calc AB in high school. Lectures are super important for practicing material that will be tested. Consistent attendance would almost guarantee an A since JD is very good at explaining calculus.
Best teacher I could've asked for honestly speaking. He made the class funny and made sure his student's understood material by extending his office hours and hosting the Tuesday review sessions before the exam that would cover EVERYTHING (that lasted til 12 am). He also always emphasized his care for students and their mental health.
lowkey one of the best math teachers i have ever had, he is funny during lectures and gives tricks on how to do problems. he genuinely cares about his students, i had a crazy medical thing going on during finals and he was really caring and understanding about the whole thing. go to the weekend review before tests and youll be fine, dont slack off
He is an amazing professor who shows you all the shortcuts you need to succeed on the tests. I always felt extremely prepared for the exams and I studied minimally and just went to class and did test review. I already had taken high school calculus so it might be a bit harder if you don't know any calculus, but quizzes and homework are easy.
