He's awesome. Teaches the fundamentals and doesn't worry about the useless details. If you want to learn the basic concepts and have easier exams than other profs take Badjic. He teaches by doing examples of the types of problems that will be on the exams. Dude rocks the house down.
Best ochem teacher EVER. Some say Chris Callam is the best, but that's definitely not true. Badjic is equally as clear, if not more and gives group quizzes. His exams are what you would expect, without any surprises. In my opinion, he kicks Callam's ass.
Great teacher. Very easy to understand, very helpful and fair tests. AMAZING HAIR, seriously.
Great guy. Had Callam for 251 and and this guy was much easier , however i feel like I learned a great deal from him. His exams are fairly straight forward and no curve balls. Also if you have any ochem intuition what so ever, you'll end up with an A for sure. I did it. you can too!
Clear lecturer. Quizzes/midterm/final were straightfoward, no tricks.
Lectures were very fast paced, and nearly impossible to understand, I just wrote everything down and tried to make sense of it later. Group quizzes are great if you're in a good group, otherwise you may as well take it alone. Test averages were around a 50%. Taught myself from the book and did decent thanks to a laughable curve.
Goes ridiculously fast. Starts INSTANTLY after the bell rings. By the time ONE MINUTE has passed, he has one whole reaction on the board and is already half way done explaining it. Test averages are very low (22% on the first midterm). As far as the "group " quizzes go, seriously consider the previous person's advice.
started SUPER slow then started blazing through stuff. First midterm was easy but so is the material. Second midterm had a lot of material on it but wasn't too hard if you studied the book. His lectures are ok but I got an A just by doing all the problems in the book and studying it. lectures are super boring (no questions, just rambling.)
Awful professor. Teaches fairly simple material, then hammers students on tests. First midterm is ok, and then waits several weeks before giving the second one, which contains a huge amount of difficult material. Class averages were in the 30's. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
took both 251+252. this guy is awesome but i would not recommend if you just want to memorize rxns and mechanisms. his exams always ask to explain why something happens. LITTLE TO NO SYNTHESIS PROBLEMS!!! i expect why people do bad is b/c they just try to memorize instead of understand WHY something happens. prof is not for everybody.
i am not that smart with a 3.3 GPA i pulled out an A in this class. Exams are really straight forward. Read the textbook take notes and understand concept and dont even do the problems coz his exam problems are easier than the book no trick ?s and his class is already curved 85% u are guaranteed A- and on top of that u will haf another 5% curve
I really didn't like him as a teacher. He was missing for half of the quarter because his visa expired so we were taught by random chem profs. The first midterm was really easy but so was the material. The second midterm was extremely hard. The group quizzes were okay but most of my group members just mooched answers off of me. Callam is better!
He's kind of a goofy guy which makes lectures light hearted and easy to sit through. The tests were easier than Callam (who I had for 251). Averages were in the 50s so if you had anything in the 80s you got an A. Just study and know the theory behind the mechanisms. If you did well in callam for 251, be prepared for an easier quarter!
Its OChem, so its supposed to be hard. But if you had a good 251 teacher, his class is pretty easy. He was hard to follow during spectroscopy, but the rest of 252 wasn't bad. His tests are very conceptual, the averages are usually low in his class. He's helpful during office hours.
If you're premed, take this guy! When studying for the MCAT, the organic chemistry portion is really easy. I got a 14 in Bio partly because of Badjic. Plus, it's pretty easy to get an A if you do his practice problems he posts online.
Before the Paul cronies attack...Badjic doesn't goof around in class and try to make you understand concepts with cute analogies...he gets it done. In conjunction with the book, there is no reason to struggle in his class. The tests aren't easy, but fair, and if you struggle, he's more than willing to help. If you don't like BS, I recommend.
Great guy and really knows how to teach chemistry. Go to lecture, take notes, and the exams will be easy (as easy as Orgo can be)
He is the worst Chem professor I have had so far. In his 251 class he is unclear on the topics and is often unable to answer questions. When he does answer a question, the answer is usually incomprehensible.
I'm in his 251 class right now and I love the way he teaches. If you do the book problems and go to class there is no reason you shouldn't get at least a B in his class. Tests are fair, if not on the easier side compared to other professors like Callam. Let's you pick when your exams are which is a plus. Way better than gen chem!
The best chemistry teacher. He is so calm and laid-back. He knows how to teach and is definitely not full of himself like some other professors.
He is one of the best professors I have had in the Chemistry department. He goes over the essentials that you need for OChem. Take notes and do problem sets and do some practice from book if you are not sure. Exams are fair.
I loved having Badjic for 251 he is definitely easier than the other professors (Callum and Mattson) but he still explains the information well. He is very nice and laid back. Go to lecture and do the problem sets because that's where the exams come from. You also get to take group quizzes and you get to drop a midterm.
An adequate professor who was hard to understand in lecture and we had to cover two chapter in a matter of 4 days!!! Disorganized but you will learn a great deal. Exams are fair
Badjic is an awesome professor. His tests are very fair and consistent with what you learn in class. The quizzes can be taken in groups, and your lowest midterm grade is dropped. Doesn't get much better than that in the OSU chem department
If you want an A in ochem, TAKE THIS CLASS. Don't get me wrong, of course it is hard. But the grading format and the way that Badjic creates exams makes it the easiest OSU organic class. If you are somewhat smart put in lots of time, you will get an A. The same CANNOT be said about other OSU profs. Also, he is pretty odd/funny/ cool
The MTs are freaking HARD!!the average of MT2 is 44.85/100. If you are really good at organic chemistry, just take this class because you have a chance to drop a MT.
His notes on the board are very hard to follow and he doesn't explain how he gets any of his answers. The quizzes are easy because you get to take them in groups but the exams are super hard and wordy.
Group quizzes started off easy. My group did not understand concepts very well late semester. Midterm 1 easiest/Midterm 2 hardest. Study hard for the first one. His lectures were terrible... He can go really fast on hard concepts but waste time on easier ones. Read book, do the problem sets, and end of chapters questions.
He is an awful professor, averages consistently lower than other sections of ochem. Dropping a midterm does not really help that much, just makes the final worth even more because there are only two midterms that count. He is really disorganized and unclear.
you think he will be easy but he is useful, unclear and wastes time. good scientist... bad teacher. makes little sense... ever
You get to see the quizzes before you take them, but that makes it sound easier than it is. He is very bad at teaching material. You have to go to class already understanding it, and only then will his lectures mean anything. His midterms are very hard. I do not recommend this professor if you can help it. There are much better ones available.
Avoid taking this professor if possible. The lectures are not clear and the Midterm exams are difficult and unlike homework and quiz problems. The averages in this class are much lower than other sections.
He is good for some of the material and not so good for other parts. After the first midterm the material was much tougher and he could be confusing at times. You get to work in a group for quizzes, but if your group members are stupid you won't do too well on them. You will need to read the book and do lots of practice problems to do well.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Easily the worst professor I've ever had. His lectures are jumbles of reactions that you have to go home and teach yourself. His exams are difficult and the averages were always at least 10 points lower than every other class. He just seems like he does not care at all
He's horrible. One of the worst professors I've had at OSU. His exams are easy, but his grading is horrid. He made some random undergrads grade our final exams, and they were graded so poorly, we had to go back and ask for points back. I got 15 points back... can you imagine?!
This is the Ochem 2510 that you should take. He is very thorough. All his exam comes from the textbook end of chapter problems. Although they may become hard, they are doable. If you are a premed, you should take him. Great preparation for the MCAT
I learned everything for this class from the book, lectures were useless and the grading of exams was terrible. The averages on exams were stupidly low. You're better off just attending a different lecture if you take this class.
Do not take this class. If it's required for your major, change majors. Badjic is super confusing so you teach yourself. He's gone for 50% of lectures and our subs never know what they're supposed to be teaching. I hated this class. The exam averages are ridiculously low. I seriously considered throwing myself off the McPh balcony after every exam.
He missed a ton of lectures. You get to drop one quiz and one exam which is nice, but that final will kill you. Averages were super low and sometimes partial credit isn't even given. A 60% is a C- but I might have to take the class again anyway.
Organization? Horrible, no real structure to course. Multiple lecturers, all had no idea where previous had left off! --Exams? Easy, basic-- Grading? Horid! Absolutely awful! Clear mistakes made on grading. Got 15 pts back on final after regrade.-- Beat average by at least 13%, got B- for class. Not Reccomended
Although I know he's probably not a bad guy, professor Badjic is not interested in teaching. He does not walk you through things. Just comes in a minute before lecture and starts scribbling on the board and when questions are asked he is almost demeaning. If you want to actually understand and learn ochem don't take this you just end up memorizing
Make sure you go to class, there are no notes posted and he will not give them to you in office hours. Exams are super tough, you have to study at least a few days before. No homework but do the suggested problems. Badjic just doesn't care about teaching, he shows up to lecture and runs off, don't expect to ask questions after class.
Do not take this professor. I honestly would suggest putting this class off a semester if he is your only option. Badjic doesn't care about teaching at all, he walks in class 30 seconds before it starts and runs out the door when its over. Have had a sub 5 classes this semester already. badjic makes this already had class, next to impossible.
Unbelievably difficult. If you do not understand chemistry and can't commit 40 hours a week to teach yourself then you will struggle with this professor. Every point in the class comes from quizzes and exams, no assigned homework, and his lectures are just him doing reactions with no explanation
Very knowledgable and good professor. He does not give out what to do in lecture directly, he always wants students to use the think for themselves and use the textbook as that's directly what he teaches out of. His tests can be difficult but they are fair to his material, would recommend for anyone who wants a very good but challenging professor.
Badjic's lecture helps but isn't always necessary to show up for. The class follows the book. To succeed, a student should read the book, do the problems in the back of the book, and MOST IMPORTANTLY do the practice tests and materials several times over. These give students a chance to understand how to take the exam which is very important.
Prof Badjic was an okay guy. He has a fun sense of humor but didn't seem to care about teaching. He came in at the last minute and left the second the class ended. The class is difficult enough. He showed example after example but very rarely went into more detail. Thank god for the curve in this class or I would have definitely failed.
Dr. Badjics class wasnt the hardest ochem class at OSU. We got 3 exams and dropped our lowest one and our lowest quiz. But the averages dropped after each exam. His final was pretty tough so be prepared for that. As a person, he seemed distant and intimidating. Even though he was funny in lecture, it was sometimes confusing. Good luck!
Overall a very interesting professor, he was clear about the material that would appear on exams and he was always available and helpful during office hours.
Badjic gives extremely fair exams and covers all important material in lecture. There are no graded assignments (only 1 optional worksheet per chapter) so you have to put in a lot of effort yourself by reading the book and doing book problems. He is extremely accessible outside of class if you need help and does want you to succeed.
He is a really passionate guy who tries his best to make lecture interesting. O chem is hard in general but he has very fair exams that follow exactly what he teaches in class. O chem is hard but thats not his fault. No points outside of the exams and quizzes which is rough but doable.
The hardest teacher ive ever had. His tests made me want to kill myself. Really study for the first 2 tests, they are easier than the last 2. The quizzes are difficult too, read the book before lecture and dont be afraid to ask questions. i had a 47% before the curve after the final. Do your best. Go to tutoring if youre really having trouble.
I was really struggling, especially at the beginning of the semester, but the final grades are curved. To do well in the course, read the textbook section before or immediately after lectures to help fully understand. DONT FALL BEHIND. If you stay on top of reading, do the practice problems at the end of each chapter and on canvas youll do fine.
Sweet guy, badd prof. Course was disorganized, exams were so hard that the class average was ALWAYS an F (a 49% one time!) and he never responded to emails. Neither did his TA. The quizzes and exams often had content that was not in the lectures and there wasn't enough time to finish them. Probably the worst course I've ever taken tbh.
Im currently in his class, man does it get hard fast. Starts out pretty easy with a review of Gen Chem and basic stuff, then it gets to the point where he is writing down reactions and moving on to the next one before you finished adding to your notes, let alone even understood the mechanism. Likable guy though.
Really smart guy but found his lectures to be confusing. Personally just did not like his teaching style (very old-fashioned with chalkboard). Content gets really tough near the end. First two exams are easy, but the third exam sucked (get one drop tho). Final is 40%
This man skimmed over important details of many concepts, and was so unclear about what would be on exams. Lectures were an absolute bore and he expected us to memorize every bit of the textbook. Recitations were just time to take quizzes, with very little time actually reviewing anything. The worst college class Ive ever taken in my life.
I would advise anyone who does not have Organic Chemistry already mastered against taking this class. Frequent mistakes during lecture and in the answer keys for the homework. Talked very briefly about topics that were on midterms and quizzes. Lecture was disorganized and taught with a piece of chalk. Professor does not care about students.
Plan on being at every lecture. If you fall behind, there is NO catching up. 90% of the grade is based off of 3 midterms (lowest gets dropped) and the final. Lectures are extremely information dense; however, he is genuinely a great lecturer. Would highly recommend using Organic Chemistry as a Second Language as supplemental textbook. 9.5/10 prof.
Dr. Badjic was an amazing professor. O chem is a hard subject and requires a lot of outside work. Attendance might not be required but it is extremely beneficial if you show up. He only teaches you what is important and doesn't focus on anything that would not be on the exams. Overall amazing professor and person in general
Dr. Badjic is a decent guy who puts little effort into teaching his class. He makes frequent mistakes in lecture and on practice answer keys. He doesn't quite explain overviews of concepts (or mistakes) well enough. His tests are fair if you study well. He doesn't care what goes on in recitations, lab, or even show up for his own tests and final.
The points were made up of 3 midterms (lowest gets dropped), quizzes each recitation, and a final so not a lot of wiggle room. In comparison to other sections, the tests were easier but his lectures I felt were not focused so the exams were still hard. Didn't show up to the final and overall I didn't feel like he cared. Made lots of mistakes.
very good professor that explains all ideas needed for class so we can easily understand and for the exams. only one quiz per week and 3 finals where one gets dropped so make sure to study and u will do perfectly fine. made mistakes here and there on practices but overall great professor that i wish i could have for ochem2. very likable and funny.
He teaches the basics of organic chemistry and only tests the basics. Pretty funny guy. He does make mistakes here and there, but there will be that one guy in class to catch him. Simple to understand. Read the textbook. Again exams are straightforward, tests what is taught.
Dr. Bajic was a good lecturer, he very much focuses on the basics of organic chemistry and doesn't expect you to know information that he doesn't cover in class. His problems sets were useful and tests weren't super difficult if you studied the material in depth. I highly recommend reading organic chemistry as a second language for this class.
90% of the grade relies on midterms and final but he is very clear about the material on each. Only downside is he spent a little too much time going over the easier stuff instead of on mechanisms. He was a funny lecturer and I really enjoyed his teaching style (chalkboard). I would choose to take him for ochen 2 if he taught it.
The best ochem professor. Very clear explanations, only tests what is covered in lecture.
While he may seem like a Soviet operative infiltrating the OSU Chemistry department, he actually is not as scary as he looks. Compared to other Ochem classes, he has by far the least homework (none). He is a nice guy, but there are virtually zero practice problems beside of practice exams. He also did not tell us what the cutoffs were for grades.
For teaching a very hard topic, he did pretty good. Sometimes hard to understand but not awful. Used the chalkboard religiously. Recorded lectures. No posted notes/slides. Has practice exams and questions but personally didn't find them very helpful.
Lectures were so disorganized and hard to follow, he just scribbles on the chalkboard. There was a heavy curve (My 60.22% became a C+), but the only pints in the class are from tests and quizzes. He seems like a nice enough guy, but his teaching style is not conducive to learning organic chemistry
He looks serious but actually very nice. The course is difficult though.
Very good professor. Some occasional mistakes in lecture but he explains things very clearly. He is very clear about what you need to know for exams. The material isn't too bad if you study, but the whole course is only graded on exams and quizzes- but there are no curveballs. They only encompass what he went over in lecture.
Dr. Badjic does a great job at teaching such a hard topic. I was hesitant when I found out that he teaches on a chalkboard, but it forced me to pay attention and copy notes. He explains things in a clear-cut way. The only points are tests and quizzes, but you get one drop on each. My only complaint is my TA. Avoid Chris.
Was a bit worried when his method of teaching was the old shcool chalkboard, but if you pay enough attention then you'll pick up. Prioritize doing the problem sets as soon as possible, I believe they are the number one thing that will help you in this course. For the exams, the problem sets work better than the practice exams.
I think he is your best option for ochem 1 professors. Your grade is only made up of exams and quizzes so be mindful about that. His exams are very fair in my opinion and ending with a good grade in this class is doable. Go to every lecture, stay on top of problem sets, quizzes, etc and you will do well in this class.
If you are taking ochem 1, take badjic. He is a messy teacher, he makes a lot of mistakes in lecture and the keys to problem sets are frequently incorrect and given last minute, however he has extremely fair exams with a drop on one midterm and one quiz and he teaches right from the textbook, giving you nothing from left field on the exams.
Dr. Badjic was amazing! He is good at explaining such hard material.
Personally, I was not a fan of Dr. Badjic's teaching style. He simply writes on the chalkboard each lecture and provides 1 problem set per week.I felt like he did not provide enough explanation and practice material, making the exams very difficult. I would rather take a professor with harder exams that provides all the materials needed to succeed.
I personally loved having Badjic. His lecture style is very different because he only uses the chalk board but I liked it since it made me pay more attention during lecture. I think the tests are pretty difficult but completely fair, if you study you'll do great. I do recommend his office hours he seems scary but is actually nice and very helpful.
worst professor ive had yet dont listen to the other reviews. exams arent the worst if you put in a lot of work but there are barely any resources and the ones you do get are given last minute and always have mistakes. the tas are unhelpful bc he doesnt care or keep them in line. such a frustrating class and the curve was pretty small.
I really enjoyed Dr. Badjic. I love his lecture style, which involves writing on the chalkboard. It allowed me to follow easily since we were both writing things down at the same time. It wasn't like Baldwin, where she goes insanely fast. I really enjoyed Badjic.
Dr. Badjic is a really good ochem 1 prof. He tells u only what u need to know and makes topics very easy to understand. no homework-only exams but u can drop 1. if u like chalkboard style and are okay with reading the textbook/practicing on ur own, you should like his class. he's funny too so it helps me pay attention
Doesnt post a lot of resources and is really test heavy
He was the worst. His answer keys always had mistakes, and he didn't cover the concepts needed for OCHEM II. He constantly told us to “read the textbook” instead of explaining. His sloppy chalk notes, one-color writing, and contradictory statements made everything even more confusing.
His chalkboard style forces you to pay good attention. He does not cover functional groups which are needed for ochem II. He does not provide enough of his own practice problems or provide clear indication of what topics will be on each weekly quiz. The only reason I took him was because he is easier than Baldwin.
I very much enjoyed Badjic! Out of all of the ochem professors at OSU, he provides 3 midterms, and you can drop your lowest grade. All of the other ochem professor's at OSU only give out 2 midterms and no drops. His quizzes are similiar to his practice sheets. His TA's are very helpful and nice. Personality wise, Badjic is a blunt and chill guy.
Overall good professor but gives few resources so be prepared to look for others and study a lot. Weekly quizzes are easy but need to study. Midterms are the only main grades, curve is pretty good at the end.
