She really is an amazing teacher, and EXTREMELY helpful. Sometimes people get lost in math like this (I do) but if you're lost she'll go over it until you all get it. And if you still don't get it after she's exlaned it a million times, she'll try after class or in the math lab. She takes special effort to help all individuals pass.
She's way better than all of the math teachers i had in high school or...ever. She will break everything down for you and she has no problem answering questions. Shes a really nice lady.
She is a great professor and she teaches so you understand it. She tends to go somewaht fast but if you tell her you dont understand it than she will slow down.
JOY CONNER IS THE MOST HELPFUL MATH TEACHER I'VR EVER HAD! SHE'S ALSO CONCERNED THAT YOU GET THE MATERIAL. SHE GOES OUT OF HER WAY TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN CLASS UNDERSTANDS THE WORK. GREAT AND AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!
She is a great teacher. Very sweet lady. I liked her a lot. She looks just like mom from the movie Carrie but she is not psycho. She is very nice and a good teacher.
She is an awesome teacher! She really cares about her students & wants them to understand the subject so they can pass. I have never seen a teacher go above and beyond like her. If you are having trouble understanding something you can go up to the math lab & she will help you and she doesn't make you feel stupid about it either.
Teacher was not helpful and did not respond to continued requests for help. Moved over the content quickly and was not willing to adjust her pace.
a great teacher, very approchable, has a wonderful attitude about math, she is fast passed but thats why in the beginning of class SHE WANTS YOU TO ASK QUESTIONS!!! shes always in the comp lab if you want her to slow down..she def will. Quizzes on line, tests arent to bad, she doesnt check homework but that doesnt mean you shouldnt do it.
Very helpful!!!
very good teacher.loved the class and the way she thought it. just dont be lazy or you will fall behind and play hard catch up
Mrs. Conner is a great teacher. She will get frustrated if you dont ask questions and then fail your test. She is more than willing to help in any area you may be having difficulty. Her test come from the chapter test in your book. Pretty easy teacher. I like math again.
Teacher expects the student to know all lower math before entering her class. There is a lot of home work in the class. You need to spend at lease 2 hours a day 7 days a week doing home work. She loves Math and you will have fun if you do the work. Her tests can be very hard, but she is always willing to help
I must have been in the same class as the previous comment, so I agree with everything, but with clarification. I did not find her tests hard, but I did do the take home quizzes and the homework. If the class average for the tests were low she did extra credit. I liked her.
The best, very helpful. If we did poor on the tests, she does extra things to help bring up your grade.
Great teacher, Answer questions and gives you SEVERAL chances to pass by giving quizzes. She is ALWAYS in the Math lab and will help you whenever possible... Any Math you have you need to take this teacher !!
THIS TEACHER LOVES MATH, SHE'S NICE, BUT CHALLENGING, TRIES TO ALWAYS MAKE CLASS FUN, SHE SAYS SHE DOESN'T GIVE EXTRA CREDIT, BUT SHE DID ANYWAY, I WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN, BUT I AM TRANSFERRING TO ODU THIS SEMESTER. :)
She's completely ridiculous. Thank god I knew exactly what I was doing in this class or I would have failed beyond belief. I felt terrible for every other student in the class. She doesn't "teach" at all. She rewrites her handwritten notes on the board which are already error ridden and doesn't explain at all what she's doing. Avoid her!
WOW! I don't know what happened with the previous student, but I'm in her class now and I don't have any of the problems. She makes a few mistakes, but all my math teachers do. She tries to do as many of the homework problems as she can so you can do the hw. She is always in the Math Lab for help, I am doing well in the class, the best ever.
I somewhat agree with the post on 10/4/2010, but I am starting to think part of the problem is this Mathzone crap. It is never used for our test and doesn't help prepare you at all. One on one she is very helpful, but class moves very fast. I can't speak for the whole class, but I know all the students I talk to are also struggling.
The class was pretty ridiculous. She uses the mathzone a lot and it doesn't help at all on the tests. She just copies her notes onto the board and moves wayyyy to fast. She constantly makes mistakes and was no help to me at all.
Great teacher, I'm taking her for 163 next semester. Very nice and helpful. I did not like mathzone, and neither did Ms Conner--she said she would never use it again. 163 uses course compass--we used that in math 4--I liked it better than mathzone.
The class scared me because I haven't had math in a long time, but the teacher helped me through it, I didn't think I would pass, but I made an A. So I would recommend her to anyone. I just wished she taught Statistics.
OMG MRS.CONNER WAS BEST I HATE MATH BUT SHE MADE IT SO EASY AND IF YOU DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING SHE WOULD BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU UNTIL YOU DID. I HAD HER THIS SEMESTER AND MYMATHLAB WAS HELPFUL TOO.I LOVE YOU MRS. JOY CONNER WE NEED MORE TEACHERS LIKE YOU...ESPECIALLY FOR SLOW-MINDED PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF LOL...WISH SHE TAUGHT MATH 4!!!!!!!
OMG!!! The best--practice tests, tests on MML, so many extras I can't explain them all--she will do whatever it takes to help you understand. Love her!
Best math teacher EVER! She makes it so easy for you to undersatnd.
GREAT TEACHER, DOESN'T PUT UP WITH ANY MESS. PLENTY OF CHANCES TO BRING UP MY GRADE--WE USED MML--LOT OF WORK, BUT WORTH IT.
I should have taken math 158 first, you have to know the algebra before u start precal. It was a good class, she likes to let students work together in class and with the online quizzes. I wish she was teaching statistics.
She was a good teacher, she went fast during class, but when there was something someone didn't understand she would go over it. A lot of homework on MML, which wasn't bad, just a lot of work. Quizzes were with MML also, she would give you practice test so you would be ready for your test, we even had take home test.
I couldn't stand her. I took her because of this site and all her high reviews. EVERYTHING IS ON MML! If I wanted to take an online class I would have. She barely teaches. I'm an A math student and I couldn't stay in her class. She seems nice but if you have questions she'll say "I don't have time to reteach, you should have learned that already"
Excellent motivator. She enjoys watching her students blossom.
Took her summer class. She moves unbelievably fast and expects you to have things memorized from past math classes even if you haven't taken a math in years. I'm not usually bad in math at all and thought it would be a breeze to take as a summer class but it was a big mistake because she just does problems and moves on.
She was an ok teacher. Everytime I asked her a question she walked away and told me to ask a neighbor. I passed but I basically taught myself and got a friend to tutor.
Not sure if I would take her again - Fast past, no patients for slackers or cell phones, lightens up as class goes on(actually has a sense of humor), reconizes your struggling efforts, best to approach here in the math lab, she hammers you with homework and practice tests
Great teacher, summer is not a time to take a precal class, so it moved very fast. I liked the MML, it helps when there isn't enough time during lecture.
Took her this summer, fast class, it is usually 16 wks, but the summer is only 10 wks long-I didn't realize how much faster the class would be. Very good teacher, didn't think I would pass-made a B. She believes in me doing the work--way different from HS days. Love my math lab--it shows you how to do everything even if it a lot of work. Take her!
Lots of homework, lots of chances to bring up my grade, just talk to her and she will do whatever it takes to help you get through the class. I made a B, and thought that was generous for her to do that for me. I wish she taught 164 next semester.
You will earn your grade--this is not a "give me an A class" so don't sign-up unless you want to learn precalculus, she will difintely get you ready for trig. Loved her, lots of online hw--its required. I like MML.
VERY HELPFUL, NICE, ALWAYS AROUND IN THE MATH LAB, EASY TO TALK TO, VERY GOOD TEACHER.
hard subject--math 3 and 4 in one semester, i did good--surprised me though--she helped me a lot.
good teacher, gives test reviews--tests come from them, answer and ask questions in class, do the online homework, you will do good
Best math professor I've ever had. I used to get C's but now I'm an A/B student because of her. If you have the chance, take her.
She comes in, and starts with examples. She kind of assumes you know it all, even if you havent tken a math in long time. She is very nice, and will help you out, but the online homework doesnt really help me. Its a tedious class. Oh & NO graphing calculators.
Mrs. Connor is nice(except for when she yells shut up at you for asking questions). She does assume that you know what to do, like the other comment said. This class was really hard for me, I was in MathLab after every class for the majority of the semester. I think I'll get an A but I've worked my but off!!!!!!!!it's been hard!
She is really good at getting to the point and if you need help, she has no problem addressing it and making it really easy to understand. If she taught the next class I have to take, I would definitly choose her.
I have had Ms Conner for 3 semesters and she has never yelled "shut-up" to anyone. She will tease to get you to start talking, but is not mean. I would take her for every math class I could. There is a lot of work but math is always work for me. Good teacher.
I just left our last class and want to say I was really worried if I would pass, but I have the review, talked to Ms Conner, the final looks like the review, did all of MML except 2 quizzes, she is going to drop them--Ill get a B easy!! So happy, glad I stayed in the class. Don't give up.
Such a great teacher. She really cares about her students and will help if she can. I did spend some time in the math lab but that is the class, not because of her. She is pretty flexible if you just let her know what's up.
I chose her because I thought her ratings were pretty good on her. I was sadly disappointed in her quality becuase she doesn't enjoy answering questions and believes that if you are slightly behind that you shouldnt be in her class. I worked hard and got a B but believed if the teacher was better and more patient I could have received an A.
Good teacher, does expect you to remember something from math 4, but she did help in the Math Lab with stuff I forgot(from the previous reviewer--I needed help too). As long as I did what she asked, she was very helpful--I did the reviews, HW, always came to class, etc., and got an A.
She gives test reviews, and goes over it in class. Online homework was a pain at first but was very helpful once I figured out all of the aids attached to it. I liked Ms Conner a lot.
Ms Conner tells you for several days that this is a review class-believe her it is-hard class if you never had trig, but I'm staying in and so far I am passing. Pray for me! Her reviews are like her test.
I like Ms Conner, she gives lots of reviews, will go over homework, she likes you to ask questions, gives time to do problems and ask about them during class. Not the easiest teacher, but I'm not looking for easy, just good. At first I thought I was going to fail-hard class-but I made a B! If she is teaching what I need, I will take her again.
Mrs. Conner isn't the nicest person in the world and doesn't explain things as thoroughly as i would like. i wouldn't recommend her, the class isn't interesting and her sense of humor is not very nice
I was worried-trig is hard for me, but she helps as much as possible-she replaced my low test grade with my final grade-so I made a B!!
The subject itself is hard--trig, but Ms. Conner was so helpful. She has sample tests and test review days--this is what is on the test. The final exam replaces your worst test grade. I wound up getting an B-I thought I was going to fail at first. Do your homework in MML if you can afford it, and you like it. It will help very helpful for me.
I like math anyway, but Ms Conner made it not so boring--lots of explanations for some of the why questions. Her test reviews are long but they cover everything and do not leave out anything like some teacher's reviews. I did not do mymathlab, but it can be 30% of your grade if you need a grade boost.
Not the best teacher. She teaches by doing examples on the board and she just does the problems without saying how she got to the answers. very disappointed. everyone (now about 7 students in there) is pretty much failing. sure she gives a lot of make up tests but that doesn't really help....
She is nice yet she makes many mistakes while giving a lesson. All she does is problems on the board and at once a class period the students would have to correct her mistakes. The fail rate in our class was above 50 percent. I would NOT recommend her!
I like her, you have to work for your grade, but she gives you practice tests, can use MML, your choice. go to class, do the practice test and you will do good.
I took her last semester and she made PreCalculus easy! Unfortunately, she is not teaching MTH 164 this semester, but she still helps me with my MTH 164. She did curve grades--that helped, she grades fair on the tests, she goes over whatever you need to know, and she is so helpful!
Ms Conner is the kindess and hardest working teacher at TCC. Attend class and don't be afraid to ask questions, that is how you learn. She is always available at the math lab, and will gladly help if you just put forth the effort. Work hard and Ms. Conner will work with you.
I thought that Mrs. Conner was the most helpful person on Campus. I took her for Mth158 Fall 2013, Easy Class if you do homework, pay attention, and ask questions. Fun person but does have a sense of humor that can be taken the wrong way. She is always available in the math lab or even an email away. I planon taking her 163 class in the sprin.
liked her a lot, gives practice tests, will go over hw, but few people asked, always on email, works in the math lab, lots of office hours, highly recommend her.
Funny, interesting, very helpful and patient. She doesn't allow graphing calculators. Does her best to make sure everyone understands, and will delay tests if she thinks more practice is needed. Final exam is cumulative
She is rude and impolite. I would never take a class of hers again. She also calls on people and she focuses on that a bunch. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Very friendly, although she can be a little discourteous when answering certain questions but she's quick to recognize a determined student and is willing to aid them in passing the class. She's also the mathlab teacher.
LIKED HER A LOT, I AM NOW READY FOR 164
You don't understand what you have in her until the end of the semester. Tough class to take in the summer, but was worth it. She said you had to do your homework every night, she said to go over all of your old test and the final would be easy--she was right. Did I do all of these things? No. Good teacher, always ask for help, do your h.w.
good teacher, practice tests, likes interaction, do the assignments and you will do well in the class
She is an amazing professor and always there to help students. Her office is in the math lab, so if you ever need help she's there. She gives practice tests for each section and homework daily so that what you learned during lecture is reinforced. If you do your homework, go to her for help, and dont skip class, you will pass! I had her twice
Loved her class! she isn't a push over but very personal and very kind. by far my favorite professor! if you put in the effort you will do great
DON'T DO IT!!! Find another professor. Her way of teaching is horrible and she makes so many mistakes on the board while teaching and then acts like it doesn't matter. Wish I would have dropped her in the beginning. Sorry for you if you don't listen to this review.
She explained everything very well and made Precalc not as hard as I thought it would be. There IS homework but it it's not graded; however, it's best if you do it so you know what is going on. She can be course at times, but as long as you participate, she'll be a great teacher.
Do not take this Teacher!! I had her for 157 and she was horrible, I should've dropped the class when I had the chance. Your basically teaching yourself. We did power point booklets all semester and she wouldn't even have enough papers for the 5 students in her class.
Her classes require a lot of work and if you are lazy or don't like homework then don't take the class However she is knowledgeable and can help but only outside of class Her tests are not easy but if you take her then your second home is the math lab She gets ahead of her self and does not show you step by step unless asked it is possible to pass
One of my fav professors. I haven't taken an Algebra class in 12 yrs and I found that she was easy to follow. She sometimes sped through the course work but if you just ask her she'll back track and explain what you missed or don't understand. She was always available. If you pay attention in class and do the homework you'll do great.
Phenomenal ability to explain tricky math concepts. Uses time wisely and is careful not to leave any student behind. She also runs the Math Lab so the tutoring for this course is stellar. Homework takes a lot of time, but is good prep for tests and quizzes. Averaged about 5 hours of outside studying a week.
Likes to teach the old fashioned way, will give you thick packets to use for the class. Not very helpful, whenever somebody would ask a question, she gives an attitude. Can be very strict about attendance but sometimes doesn't care. The quizzes and tests are fairly easy as long as you can keep up with the lecture or teach yourself.
Do your homework. Ask questions if you need help.
MTH154: met attitude when asking for help.Teaching philosophy: "if you don't understand ask a neighbor" " you need your neighbors to pass this class". All work and homework is done on my math lab. over ten assignments per week. hw is done in excel, she specifically told us," this isnt IT class I will not teach you excel" more work than my human a&P
Joy gave us about 10 assignments for each chapter and would complain when we didn't get everything done. Said we could come to another lecture if we missed the main one, but made fun of a student who did that. The final straw for me was when she yelled at another student for making a mistake. She doesn't care about actually helping her students.
Currently taking this class and I cannot get over this professor. Her attitude is awful towards students, she provides little help when asked questions and instead just complains that we don't listen however I've attended every class. Extremely frustrating as a student.
This professor doesn't teach correctly. She reads off of her paper and writes whatever she sees. Whenever we have excels she confuses some of her work and writes wrong things. Whenever this happens i tend to do the excel again. We have tests mostly every weekend and the notes she gives us doesn't help at all.
This professor is extremely sweet, & blunt/to the point; however, she does not teach whatsoever. She solely relies on MyMathLab and ginormous notes packets to get you through the course. Class time is dedicated to her reading us the packet and following along/filling blanks. She works through the problems for you. If it weren't for my peers, idk.
The class material imo was tough in parts, but Professor Conner was always available after class for several hours if you needed help or a quiet place to do homework. There was a LOT of homework... but her videos walking through the excel file based homework (which is most of them) was a godsend. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! I also like her humor.
To preface, I am a good student and I keep on top of all my work to maintain an above average GPA. This was not a good class. If you want 200 homework assignments as well as so many excel files, this class is for you. Do not miss a day or you will fall EXTREMLY behind with no leeway.Lectures are confusing. Save your grade and do not take this class
This professor makes you feel like you are a failure. Her impression of young people is that we know absolutely nothing and goes out of her way to make you feel small. Additionally, what she lectures in class does not follow what we are doing in mylab math. We aren't tested on excel material, but that is what we are focusing on outside of class.
She is very condescending as a professor; she treats students as if we were still in high school. Don't you dare get sick and miss a day of her class. It's clear she wants to retire, and she needs to.
Heavy workload but professor makes it clear what is required and expected from the class on day one. She seems tough but is definitely understanding. If you pay attention and do as she recommends you will pass.
