This Professor is excellent. She is hard, but needs to be. Goes at what seems to be fast paced, but covers all the material throughly.
Awesome teacher. She is always available to help her students and she really cares about them. She has a BBQ at her house every Spring for her students.
She is an excellent teacher but moves much too fast for most students to grasp the concepts.
I love this Teacher! She is so helpful! I try to take her for all my Math classes!
she will challenge you but acolades jobs well done and is very helpful if you have questions. plus, it seems like she cares about her students so it is a refreshing change of pace. nothing free in her classes but well worth the effort to learn form her.
Joy really knows math. You must attend every class or you will be lost. She moves very quickly but covers all the material. Her tests are very fair and she is too. She will make time to meet with you for any ?s even outside of office hours. She c
She is awesome and very helpful. She guides you in understanding math. Her class is interesting and high energy. Thanks Joy!
I'm taking her for Social Calc and she is awesome! She moves quickly, but teaches to a point of understanding clearly! She is fun, fair and the tests are not that difficult if you understand what is going on in class.
I went into this class with an overwhelming fear of math. Joy quickly made me realize that math CAN be fun and you can actually enjoy learning it, too. She has a great sense of humor, an obvious passion for math and teaching, and most importantly, a Niners fan. :)
I highly recomend professor Fuson. She is one of my favorite teachers and I am so thankful to her for getting me through math 100. She is extremely helpful and always, makes time for her students. She has a huge passion for her subject, and I never got bored.
One of the first math classes I haven't fell asleep in. Joy is very enthusiastic, approachable, and humorous. She does her best to make sure everyone in class understands the material being covered. If you take this class... do your homework!!
Joy is a wonderful teacher who really takes the time to make sure her students understand the material. No question goes unanswered, and she will never make you feel like your question is stupid or irrelevant.
She is a great teacher and also very approachable outside of class when you need help. She gives hard tests but really prepares you for them. If you do your homework and study for tests passing is easy.
I didnt like the teach, but she has a passion for what she teaches and is helpful if you need it but i've had better professors.
She is a great teacher who makes math not seem overwhelming. She goes step by step through the material, but try not to miss too much of class you'll get behind, and also stay on top of homework and you'll definitely get at least a B.
Joy is a great lady! She really wants to help you understand math and doesn't make you feel like an idiot if you don't understand something. She doesn't keep track of how many days of class you've missed-all you have to do is turn your homework in & then you can leave if you feel you understand the next homework assignment. Take her class!!
i wish i was having her for my nexy math class
I LOVE JOY FUSON!! She's sooo fun and inceredibly helpful and smart. She always puts a smile on your face--even if it's a 7:30am class! Haha. Recommendation: Take her class!
I took her elementary algebra class.Math has always been my enemy but Joy made it much easier for me to understand. She is always smiling and makes you actually want to come to class because of her fun and energetic teaching. She is down to earth and really easy to talk to and doesn't put people on the spot so that you are comfortable in class.
Joy is an awesome teacher!!! She is very clear and explains things step by step. She is always smiling, happy and very energetic. She makes you want to come to class. She is really good with questions. Doesn't make you feel dumb at all and will keep explaining it to you until you understand. She doesn't give you only one way to learn and understand
Joy is one of the most approachable teachers on campus. She goes out of her way to help students who are having problems and is an overall great teacher. I highly recommend her regardless of your confidence level in mathematics.
Joy is the best teacher I have ever had. She is always happy even at 7:15 in the morning. She explains everything in a way that everyone understands. Take her if you get the chance because I know you will love her
Awesome teacher! Explains everything very clearly. Only thing I would have to complain about is her test taking guidelines. If you are not there on the test day there is no way you can make it up even if you are halfway across the country attending a family death. BE THERE FOR THE TESTS!
Joy is an awesome teacher. She makes math easy, explains it in a way that make sense and seems to really care whether or not her students learn. She has a great positive attitude all the time and it rubs off. I cannot say enough about her. She is great and if given the choice - take a class with her - you'll be glad you did. LOVE JOY!!
I?ve had better professors. Joy teaches very quickly and doesn?t focus essentially on whether the students grasp the material. Her tests are very complex and she works straight out of the book. The plus side to Joy is her enthusiasm but her class is a lot of work.
Love her! Very clear, does warm ups every class so you don't forget what you learned at beginning of semester. Extremely helpful, even called me at home to help. She came to our study group too! She really wants you to succeed.
Far and away my favorite math instructor! Joy is absolutely amazing - lovable personality & incredibly clear explanations! I would highly recommend to anyone taking math at FLC!
SUCH A GREAT TEACHER! always high energy, and interesting. she makes math more fun than anyother teacher ive had. she keeps moving which keeps the energy flowing. i love it!
Love love love her!! She's amazing and always has a smile on her face. Take her class and you will love math with her!
Joy is by far my favorite instructor. Her enthusiasm and silly humor make math FUN! She is very available during office hours, and wants us to succeed. I can't wait to start Math 120!
good teacher. good at explaining things
This is was fast paced class but you will be fine if you make an effort. Explains things very well and is very clear about what will be on the test
VERY difficult if you struggle in math, she is very fast paced.
Joy is a very polite and fun teacher to have. She never comes in feeling down and always seems to have a way to make math interesting. She is also very knowledgeable and helpful when you need her to be which made me rate her very highly.
awesome math teach and a great mentor! if you struggle with math like me, her monday-thursday classes will benefit you greatly
I am not good at math and was really dreading this class. But Joy was so friendly and helpful and was really able to make me understand the material. She is willing to go to just about any length to help you so long as you take the class seriously and wanna pass. I really recommend her! She's awesome!!! :)
I really enjoyed this hybrid class. Joy is always so happy and makes math fun. Her tests can be tricky...but she offers extra credit and makeup tests when the whole class didn't do well. Awesome communication through email. A joy to be in this class!
I have taken more helpful classes. She gives a ton of hw that had so many problems (6 pages front and back usually) that by the end I just became lethargic and less sure of myself then when I started. She is very strict on tardiness, and grades tests pretty tediously. She does have a great attitude and sense of humor.
DON'T TAKE HER if there is another option. I have three other friends who are takings the same class, and are doing much less work. They look at my tests/hw and cringe. They all have above a B and more time while I have a C and have hours of hw.
SUCH A GOOD TEACHER. I'VE NEVER HAD SUCH AN EASY TIME IN MATH. SHE EXPLAIN EVERYTHING VERY WELL AND IS CLEAR ON WHAT WILL BE ON THE TEST. SHES ALWAYS IN A GOOD MOOD AND VERY POSITIVE. HER MONDAY-THURSDAY CLASS HELPED ME A LOT.
I took her Math 30 Hybrid course. She is an extremely harsh grader- I have never had a more unreasonable teacher. Please take the course with someone else.
She is a great teacher, but be prepared for the fast pace of teaching just like every other mat teacher. Don't be alarmed by her over spunkiness and liveliness because that's jus her which adds an extra to the class from not being fun. Btw u get a food day for Pi(3.14)Day! Just saying! Great teacher and very clear! Test are long, but not crazy hard
Joy was the best math teacher I have ever had. She always got so enthusiastic about what she was teaching and it kept me interested. I'm not a math person but she turned me into one!
Joy is the most helpful professor I have ever had. She always offered to help anyone during office hours (take advantage of them!!).She is the NICEST woman ever. Not an overload of homework either. Love love love. I definitely recommend taking her! By the way, I haaate math, but she made it so much easier for me!
Joy is seriously so great. I took her monday - thursday class and she always comes in with a giant smile on her face and a good light-hearted sense of humor. Yes, she has a lot of homework, but she's trying out a new system with a lot less problems. Just go, pay attention, do your homework and you should get an A
Prof. Fuson was a great teacher. She is helpful and getting help during her office hours made all the difference for me. There is a short amount of time to get through a lot of information. Prof. Fuson is always smiling and enthusiastic about math in general but not in an annoying way. :)
she is the best. take her. she is very easy.
Joy is by far thee best math instructor I have ever had. Do your homework, pay attention, ask questions, you will be fine.
Her lessons are out of the textbook completely. Don't use the selected answers book, not helpful at all. Follow the textbook and you'll be good.
Joy is very energetic and ready to help her students succeed. I took her in the morning at 7:30am-8:35 and she is definitely a morning person. I'm not sure if it was just that class or what, but she moves a little too fast for me (granted math isn't my best subject anyway). If you need help, she is there. She emails you back very quickly too.
The pace of this class is extremely fast. Prof is enthusiastic and cheerful, and will help if you ask for it. She moves quickly through the material. Be prepared to work very hard to pass this class.
She is fast paced. She keeps things interesting. She is really interested in helping people succeed. A great educator, but the courses are fast paced, so not everyone is going to adapt regardless. If you do the work she asks, and seek help from her and the resources she suggests, you are going to succeed.
Professor Fuson is by far one of the best math teachers I've ever had! Very helpful in class and during office hours, and responds promptly to emails. Would definitely recommend taking her for math!!!
Joy is one of the best professors you could ask for. She encourages class engagement to ensure that everyone is understanding the material before moving on. The HW and Class Syllabus contain all the information you need throughout the semester. She responds to emails and always makes herself available to help those willing to help themselves.
Professor Fuson was a great professor she was always willing to listen to your concerns about math. I loved being in her Math 10 class just do not ask for tutoring services because it not that type of class. However, she really does care about your her students and stories to overcome math anxiety. She is a very understanding and caring professor.
EVEN# HOMEWORK HAVE TO DO BY YOURSELF, TRIGONOMETRY IS NOT AN EASY A, YOU HAVE TO WORK A LOT FOR IT! SHE CAN REALLY TEACH YOU THE MATH! FAIR, GENEROUS GRADING CRITERIA ON THE EXAMS AND HOMEWORK.
Fuson is a fantastic professor. She makes complex topics easy to understand. Great communication. Very generous grader. Returns work usually within the next day. You always know where you stand in her class. Highly recommended.
Professor Fuson will prepare you for the next level. She keeps you up to date with assignments and grades. Do not miss class, or you will fall behind. She gives a heads up for quizzes which is great for people anxious in math. You never feel like the rug is pulled out from under you. She actually cares about her students and her work. Thank you.
Tough class. Tons of information to learn and review. Make sure you're solid with your Trig and Algebra 2, or you're going to struggle. This class is moving faster than all the other Pre Calc courses... We're into Ch. 9, most classes just finished getting tested on Ch 3-4. Buckle down, work hard, study, and ask questions.
Probably the best math instructor I've had in college or high school. Her teaching is easily absorbable but if you don't study and blow off homework, you will definitely not do well. She really cares about her students and will answer questions.
Professor Fuson has always been a fantastic teacher! Her lectures are very clear, and she works through many different types of examples so you can get the whole picture of each math topic. And her tests are at a good level, not too hard, not too easy. Also very enthusiastic, and super nice. If you struggle in math, Fuson is the professor to take!
A great teacher, but very difficult class. Felt rushed the entire semester and sometimes things seemed very chaotic.. especially during the first couple weeks. Constantly felt like this isn't a class that the professor usually teaches. Either way, a fun and challenging experience. Not a lot of HW either. Tests were tricky, but not too hard.
I absolutely recommend Joy. She is by far the amazing professor I have had, and helped me love math again. It is mandatory to bring your book and attend class, she does check for those. She teaches quickly but she does answer questions as well, so don't be afraid to ask! Also during offices hours feel free to check your homework, she provides them.
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had! I struggled with math in High School, but she is a fantastic teacher and got me back on track. The class is fast paced but manageable. She goes the extra mile to ensure you every opportunity to succeed, you just need to do your part. Highly recommend!
joy is a good teacher. but for this class specifically don't take her. she seems to be new to teaching it and the tests are way too hard for most people. only 1 person managed to score an A with 3 Bs and the rest of the class with Cs or just failed. The people in the class were actually above average and most would've got B's and A's in other class
Scared for Calculus after having taken PreCalc with her. :-/ Wish me luck.
Professor Fuson is THE BEST. She's nice, funny, and a really good teacher. She makes concept connections everywhere, and doesn't mind if you have a "silly" or off-topic question. She makes everything really fun and easy to learn. Hands down, amazing professor. Best math teacher I've had in a long time.
I didnt miss one assignment or one class. This teacher expects you to have no life or other responsibilities. Has too many expectations of someone who is a college student. Dont take this teacher!
The questions she puts on her tests are way more difficult than the homework. If you think your prepared for a test because you understood the homework, think again.
Best math teacher I've had so far. She always comes in with a smile on her face and she's passionate about what she does. Easy to email her to ask questions about homework too.
She grades based on quizzes and exams. She doesn't grade homework but it is highly recommended to do the homework since some questions do show up in the quizzes. She gives out amazing lectures and provides everything for you to succeed. I enjoyed her classes and it helped me grasp a strong concept on Calc 2.
After taking around 20 classes at Folsom Lake I was beginning to think we didn't have any bad professors. I was wrong. She is horrible at both teaching and grading. Her tests are much harder than the work she gives out. Over half the class got an F on the first test. I lost my 4.0 in this class, so I'm warning you to please take anybody else.
Judging by the past reviews left for this professor maybe she used to be good at her job when teaching in person but online was another story. She completely took advantage of the online/asynchronous teaching style. She would not respond to my questions and always told me to use other resources other than. Do not take this class. She is no help.
I really enjoyed taking my Calculus class with Joy Fuson. It was easy to communicate with her, because I could text her with any questions, which was very convenient. Just like any math class, don't expect to get by without doing much. You will be doing hours upon hours of math homework each week. I would gladly take another math class with her!
A great teacher who goes over what to study and gives optional HW. Interacts with students and will help if you ask a clear question. Will drop the lowest quiz and allowed students to take MATHS81 to drop an extra quiz. Takes attendance and has random quizzes each week, so make sure to attend. Very hard but if you study you can do well.
Very easygoing course! Great professor. Didn't have any mandatory Zoom lectures, so that allowed us to have more free time. Homework isn't checked, but still highly recommended to do it if you want to pass. Quizzes almost every week; you can use your notes on the tests but no calculators or online tools. Various opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Fuson was a genuinely nice person and really wants every student to succeed. She is more that happy to help with any questions over zoom or phone. Her recorded lectures are straightforward and simplify a difficult subject. Her tests are challenging and you are only graded on tests and quizzes, not homework.
Professor Fuson is a really nice person but the setup of the class was rough. There are no office hours or lectures so you have to rely on email or the discussion page to get help. In the videos, she doesn't really teach, but rather just does some examples and calls it a day. I did a lot of self-teaching and homework problems in order to get an A.
Fuson is a good professor, the only issue I have a problem with is how exam-heavy her class is. I failed one exam, did really well on the rest of them, even getting a 21/22 on the final, and still ended up with a B in the class. Her exams are a little bit tough but they're mostly taken from the quizzes. She is really good at teaching
Each test is worth 25% of your grade. If you fail one, there's no coming back from it. We started with class with 35 students. But week 7/Midterm 1, we were down to 19. By week 14/Midterm 2, we were down to 16. By the final, we were down to 14 people left. Class average test scores for the three tests: Midterm 1- 74% Midterm 2- 64% Final- 70%
Professor Fuson is a great teacher overall. She is extremely passionate which makes this class more interesting. She offers very little extra credit. Her tests are extremely difficult and each of the three are worth 25% of your grade. I personally feel the exams were no reflection of my understanding, but quizzes were easy. This is no easy class!
Shes a great person and really cares for her students but the tests are so difficult and she grades extremely hard. If you pay attention and asks lots of questions as well as practice multiple problems frequently, you will pass. Otherwise youre giving up youre life for that class.
You will regret taking her class. She is an extremely hard grader. She has lecture videos recorded from a year or two ago she uses, where she does NOT teach, but does the problems and calls it "teaching". Most of the class is at around a low B or C, because her tests are extremely difficult. More than half dropped the class. Read other reviews.
Class meetings are practice/example problems only. No content is taught in classes. You will need to do ALL of the guided notes to do well. This class uses the worst textbook I have ever had the displeasure of trying to learn from. Avoid this class if you have a life/job outside of school. nice professor, but impossible to keep up with the content.
Grades extremely strictly. Teacher makes mistakes. Recorded lectures are awful. In-class problems are useless. Homework is graded. Fail one test, and you won't recover. Would never take this professor again.
Worst professor I've ever had. Her lectures are of very poor quality, and are not constructive. The course is heavily dictated by exam scores, and she grades homework strictly. The tests are time restrained, harder than homework and practice problems, and her study guides are awful. I'm re-taking with another professor who is much better.
Prof. is kind and easy to reach outside of class. She is helpful with questions, fair on tests, and understanding. Has plenty of office hours, grades harshly but is very helpful and explains what you did wrong until you understand it. Course is very homework heavy and has a lot of lecture, but she makes it work. I would definitely take again.
Prof. Fuson was an excellent professor! Definitely the most available, helpful, and easily contacted I've ever dealt with. She teaches a very tough class, but if you put in the effort she will do everything humanly possible to help you. I went in to calc2 expecting to really struggle, and while the workload was immense I wound up enjoying it!
This professor is not what it seems in the reviews. She is quite unclear on her grading giving others higher grades than some. She would not round up my grade despite me bringing evidence that my grade should have rounded now I am stuck with a B. I recommend TAKE A DIFFERENT PROF. You don't want to risk your grade because of her grading skills.
good person bad teacher
tough course but what advanced math isn't. Luckily she is always there to help, she gives you her phone number, always has office hours, and allows for plenty of study materials (especially if you engage with the embedded tutor). Comprehensive lectures, great energy, just an amazing teacher over all.
While it is an incredibly test heavy class, and real tough grading, its expected when taking an advanced math course. To make up for this, she is incredibly easy to reach, cares about a student's success, and is overall really enthusiastic which makes lectures a lot more bearable. An excellent professor for such a difficult course
Very uncaring. Not empathetic. Does not accept late assignments whatsoever. Wish she was a good enough teacher to even be that rigid with assignment dates but is not. Expects you to put her class before all other classes, as if we do not have a life outside of the class. Worst part is her lectures are horrible but attendance is mandatory.
I found her to be very easy to learn from, but as a warning I've heard the opposite from some people. No mandatory homework besides "section previews" but they take roughly 10 minutes each if not less. She's also pretty lenient on partial credit on exams, but exams are roughly 80% of the grade total I believe.
Professor Fuson was such a delight. She has things she's strict about and is not super lenient with many th
Okay my phone tweaked and submitted my review prematurely,.. Professor Fuson was such a delight. She has things she's strict about and is not super lenient with many things, but she is a wonderful and happy person, and she offers many resources for help and tutoring. Being respectful to your students goes a long way, her name is fitting! Joy!
I loved having Prof. Fuson for Calc 2! The majority of your grade comes from exams. Calc 2 is a material-heavy course, so it's important to show up and stay engaged during lectures. Prof. Fuson is very friendly and easy to reach outside of class, so if you're struggling with content, don't hesitate to ask her anything!
The entire class time is her unorganized lecture. Makes Calc 1 way too hard. Exams are way harder than what she covers in class. If you ask her a question she might give you an ambiguous answer. Expect half the class failing the midterm exams. If you can, save your grades and don't take this professor.
Unnecessarily strict. 5+ min late and assignment not accepted. Been late to class a couple times and already got a warning that I'm borderline being dropped. Like to make things harder than they should be. The combination of difficulty, strictly long lectures, heavy material makes this an overwhelmingly difficult class. One of the worst.
Overall, a fantastic professor. Initially, I had a hard time following her lectures due to the class's pacing, so practice up on your basics! Incredible with responding over email, and wants to help you in office hours, where there are so many and you get extra credit for attending!
Fuson is an amazing math teacher. Even though the lectures are 2 hours long, she always explains the concepts really clearly and always willing to help you. Just make sure that you do good on the exams since they are worth a majority of your grade. She's really nice and makes the exams not too hard. Ignore the bad reviews, take her if you can.
