She keeps class interesting and has an obvious interest in sociology. She enjoys helping out her students and doesn't hesitate. She's awesome!!!
Professor Joy uses a very effective teaching method. Engages students in open discussion, which allows for reflection and thus more meaningful learning.
queen of sociology. She definitely knows what she's talking about. She's so open to others opinions, and I love how she enjoys her students debating, so enthusiastic. She has a lot of patience, some students will be incredibly rude or talk over her. Her lectures are really fun and she really wants her students all involved. No regrets on taking her
She's so amazing and very beautiful, she's funny, smart, probably likes sci-fi, zombies, and video games, which would be my dream. OK i think i fell in love, but i have to come to reality, she's short and i find it cute when she goes on her toes to to write on the board and i don't check her out because i respect her, her personality is great!!
She is literally my favorite professor at Cerritos College. Hands down the most down to earth teacher i've ever met. Her class was very interesting, and it was very easy to pass (if you read the book and do assignmentsquizzes). Easy class considering i took it at an intro level. Would recommend to anyone.
Amazing professor, the lectures can be long, but she always takes time to explain things to her students in a creative way and often has videos that make her point clearer. She is also very helpful and is more than willing to answer any bizarre questions on the topics. She is for the students and it is shown in her teaching.
Professor Tsuhako's class was awesome. She makes it interesting and up to date with the times. She makes you think , her assignments are enjoyable . No tests final paper at the end based on weekly chapter reflections , super easy if you keep up with the weekly assignments , plus one group project
Ms. T is awesome ! You will have weekly online quizzes that should only take you an hour or less to finish. Never took a test in her class , our final was a group presentation of our career goal & incorporate it with a topic in which we learned in her class. I highly recommend her
She was my first teacher in college and I am glad I took her ! You definitely learn a lot and retain information, online quizzes are due every week but it should take less an hour to complete (straight from the book) no final just a group presentation. Really pretty, smart, and funny ; loml. I wish she taught more of a variety of classes.
Amazing Instructor! She's able to make the reading and lectures interesting connecting it modern issues. She really has a love for sociology, which you can tell by the way she talks. I highly recommend her her for Soc 101 and another class! BTW she's really really really pretty!
She is simply an amazing professor. Her assignments are straight forward. Her lectures are also very interesting and believe it or not, you actually learn to view things through a sociological perspective. And to top it off, shes beautiful!!!! Take her class, you won't regret it.
No quizzes or exams, however like 3-4 online assignments per week, she expects this class to be a priority for science majors, and the outlines of her assignments are all the same, and you must have read at least 10-20 pages of the textbook to do your assignments, I hope I'm wrong about her. I just can't see how students really like her class
Professor Tsuhako is a wonderful teacher! She is very passionate about sociology, which reflects on her presentations. Our learning was composed of PowerPoint lectures that summarized the book, reinforced by in-class assignments, discussions, and homework that tied into what we learned. No quizzes or tests! Also, she is beyond gorgeous!
She is by far my favorite professor. She understands how hard it is for students to go to school and work. Her class is easy as well as entertaining. There are no exams. The assignments are reasonable. I would definitely take her again. She is super hot and has tattoos.
She's so passionate about Sociology and because of her I will minor in it when I transfer. Honestly it is an easy class, just do the homework, extra credit and projects and you'll be fine. Only complain I have is her class can feel rushed sometimes, which then makes you feel rushed on your assignments.
Easy class. Same boring online assignments every week. Group Project. 4 page paper. Make sure to follow up with her on grading assignments cause it takes her to the end of semester to grade something smh , so make sure she doesn't miss anything. She's not organize so be prepare for that. DONT BUY THE BOOK. YOU DONT NEED IT.
She's very passionate about what she teaches... She really takes her time to explain her lectures. You do have to participate or she will make you. There is plenty of extra credit. She gives NO tests whatsoever. Your final is a group project to create a video and also a 4 page essay. It's an easy class. Don't buy the book, you won't need it.
She doesn't take role unless the day's schedule involves a class discussion. But she usually picks a handful of students at random to participate and takes role that way. No book, no tests, no quizzes. Homework assigned each meeting which is usually just a paragraph or two wrote up about the unit
Ms. Tsuhako was so nice and you can really see how passionate she is with what she's doing. Great class to see a better perspective of society. She explains lecture well and really relatable and useful in life. Assignments are easy and straightforward. It should only take you less than an hour. Love this class!
Prof. Joy really cares about her student and her community, as a sociology professor should. Her lectures are engaging and open your eyes to new perspectives, and she's very passionate about what she teaches. Not a lot of work and you'll learn a lot.
I adored Tsuhako. She's a brilliant professor, very kind, outspoken, and genuinely cares about her students and social justice. I learned so much from her class and it really gave me a voice to speak about injustices I care about too. The homework can be tedious, but it's self-guided and you get to speak your mind which was really unique.
Professor Joy is an outstanding teacher. Her lectures are easy to understand and she emails the class the notes to print out before class. Homework is manageable even if you have a busy schedule. I would take her again, it was such an interesting class. Easy A.
She's a nice teacher and not mean at all. Lectures are kind of boring and she talks a lot. There's a lot of hw.. if you love sociology I recommend her. In her class participation matters!
She follows the syllabus and is a very easy grader. Definitely not a typical instructor but her style is much more beneficial for learning. Classes include powerpoint outlines where you fill in occasional words so you can focus on lecture material instead of writing. The homework is NEVER hard, and is often time meant to be a learning experience.
I'm in High School. I took her class for Summer 2017 and liked it very much. I usually work hard in any class, but I've never gotten a 100% before, meaning if you follow the assignment prompts, you can get 100%. No tests/Scantrons; just a few write-ups and one easy 4-page essay. Bring the helpful lecture notes (fill-in-the-blank) to class.
Joy makes the class fun and she really knows how to relate to people in her class. Her lectures are fill in the blanks so that helps with having you just listen instead of trying to write everything down so don't forget to print out our lectures before class. Do the work and you will pass because she doesn't give out any test! Thats the best part.
Her class was so easy to pass. You didn't need to read a lot and the homework was so little that it didn't really count as homework. Not only was her class fun, but she has everything outlined for you to fill in. The class was an easy one, and I would definitely take it again.
Really passionate about the subject and I definitely learned a lot. It was a lot of work but a lot of the work was worth it and applicable to my daily life. She inspires passion for social issues outside of class. I took this in the summer so there were a lot more work stuffed into a week so it might be less work spread out in the normal semesters.
professor joy tsuhako is an absolutely amazing teacher! such a super fun and easy class. i actually enjoy showing up because she is that interesting. she never goes off topic and teaches you exactly what you need to know. no textbooks, no exams, no quizzes. hands down the best and beautiful professor at cerritos. so glad i took her class.
Professor Joy, is so inspirational with her lectures! No tests at all, and plus no textbook! Just take notes in class, and do the online homework assignments, reflections, and one final essay which is not hard. Goodluck. Would definitely recommend!!
Her class is easy. You just do what is called "doing sociology" and "Reflections" online for homework. This is just your opinions and to make sure you understand the topics. You will have to do 2 hours of community service and write a essay on it. You will write page essays towards the end of semester just be ready for it. Make sure to write notes.
Honestly she's the best. Yes there's a lot of readings in her classes (I've taken two with her) but it allows you to really know your stuff and become aware. She's the reason I changed my major... SHES THE BEST. No exams just a lot of readings. Really laid back on late work. She knows her stuff and is so INSPIRATIONAL
I felt that her class was too much. I had her for SOC 201, which was Social Problems. I didnt like the structure of the class. The class seemed very INDIVIDUALISTIC and self centered. It was all based on an individual's opinion and thought based. Its good to share and thoughts. However, majority of the students think think their opinion is correct
My first time taking this class and everything you have to do is online or via the campus website and or other syllabus directions. One thing that really bothers me is that she has to actually documents your attendance almost every time you go to class so I felt like I was in elementary school and felt degraded treated like a child my opinion!
Out of all the other sociology classes, this class bothered me the most. The professor is genuine and kind, however I didn't like the structure of the class. Its good to share ideas and thoughts, however students are very individualistic and self centered. They would think that they're the best or their answer is correct etc. It really bothered me.
One of the best professors at Cerritos College hands-down. Power points with no textbook required BUT that means HW at the end of each class which is a solid exchangeespecially if its easy work! You have to share at times to gain credit, so get over shyness to pass! Genuine, smart, & caring teacher who is open-minded & lives + breathes sociology.
She is an amazing professor, She taught me a lot! I took her for SOC 210 and 201, she is very passionate about her job, and so involved in her community. She is super nice, a very understanding and overall, id take her again. She got me involved in so many wonderful things that help others... A professor you can go back tbh...
Professor Tsuhako is the best, i am honor to be able to say that i leanred under her material. She is one inspiring person. she taught and open my eyes to see that the world is not just black and white! overall great professor
i really enjoyed prof. tsuhako's class because of the topics we discussed. i liked the reading assignments and how we were able to discuss our thoughts in class. it's clear that she is passionate in her work and strives for her students to find that same passion in sociology. i've learned a lot more with her and am planning to take her again!
She give outlines for her lectures so students only have to find the missing part by listening to the lecture. If you dont follow the instructions for the homework youll lose points. The class wasnt hard at all but Professor Joy tends to ramble and makes the class feel long.
She assigns a lot of homework and readings. On one hand, this is college so the workload isn't really an issue, however nothing is spread out. As soon as you get one assignment done, another one is due a day or two later. Her lecture slides aren't organized and sometimes don't match the outlines. She also talks a lot.
I loved this professor! All her lectures tied into real life so it made understanding things much easier! Lots of writings to do but easy if you go to class and understand it! Shes an easy grader and works with you! Definitely take her!
Professor Tsuhako is really passionate about sociology, but she gave a lot of work when I was in her class. Even when we had to transition to online learning because of COVID-19 the workload didn't change. However, she was very lenient when it came to late work. Sometimes it could be a bit overwhelming though. No textbook needed or exams.
Professor Joy is a great prof. Her class is composed of basic assignments, theres no exam nor quizzes so its already a plus. you should be able to get an A in her class by just completing the discussions and assignments given
Professor Joy is a very nice and friendly professor but whatever you do don't chose to work independently. She gave us so much more work compared to the people in groups which only had to write a short paragraph and respond to a discussion. Also the last day of class would of been on a Wednesday but she made all assignments be due on a Monday.
Her class is strongly politically left. Her class is easy to pass, no exams, no quizzes, lots of reading though. Shes very passionate about what she teaches. Shes a nice professor.
I love this class. As long as you do all your work and are on task this should be an easy A.
Professor Joy was awesome, I really enjoyed her class. No book, she provides you with a pdf for all the readings. There was a good amount of hw, but as long as you pace yourself, you should be fine. She was really cool and lenient this semester because of COVID. I definitely recommend taking her, youll learn a lot of things and shes super caring
She is the best Sociology professor I have ever taken, her lectures are 100% knowledge - no UMs or pauses, she is that smart and that driven to give you the best information. She's also very caring and lets students speak as well. She is clear in her assignments and I will take her again if possible.
I took this class during the Pandemic and it was pretty easy to take. All assignments are due Sunday so before that you have the rest of the week to do them. During the Semester you'll have to do lectures, discussion questions, homework, and a project. Overall I recommend taking this class.
Consisted of 3 projects, 3 documentaries, weekly discussions. You have the ability to complete extra credit in each lecture. All work is assigned on Monday and due Sunday. No test or quizzes.
One of the best courses I've taken throughout my college years. Definitely the best inspirational teacher. She engages with her students all the time. She is very understanding to any situation that you may have going on. Assignments are easy. Very passionate about her material and dedicated. She knows what she is talking about always.
She was so sweet and is very knowledgable. Took her in the spring and I learned so much from this class. I didn't find the class difficult at all she offered zoom lectures to attend but were optional I couldn't attend them bc of work but I did all my work my own never had an issue. Would definitely take her again. She explains everything clearly.
Great! I really learned a lot and the assignments really made me think a lot. Lots of homework but it is straightforward.
Ms. T was really the best introduction to college professor I could ask for. She was very easy going and ver relaxed. She was always open to conversation about the real world topics. Her class really gives u different view and insight to the world. Also willing to meet with me regarding questions to an assignment out of her schedule meeting days.
Mrs. T has to be one of my favorite professors in college in so far. Shes very thorough and passionate about her work, she made her classes very interesting and informative. I was very nervous to take a Sociology class but I enjoyed her class every bit. I took a 9 week semester so there was plenty of homework. I would gladly take her class again (:
Professor Tsuhako's Sociology 101 class was such a great and interactive class. She emphasizes on current topics and things that are overlooked in as a whole. Very educational course you'll for sure leave the class learning something that can be used lifelong. Extra credit given weekly and her essays are simple if you pay attention. 10/10 class
Professor Joy is an amazing individual. She is exceptional in her line of work and is extremely passionate. If you are interested in taking her social problems course, get ready to read! She gives extra credit opportunities and although she gives a good amount of work, she provides clear instructions.
Prof Tsuhakos SOC215 was one of my favorite courses this semester. Instructions can be a bit confusing- especially for our final assignments (which consisted of two projects we had all semester to complete)- but the assignments were interesting and insightful. I enjoyed the lectures, too. Would definitely take if you like SOC or need credits.
I took her summer SOC 101 session. It's quite a bit of work you have to do, but it's nothing too difficult to comprehend. If anything, I really enjoyed her class because the content she taught really applied to the real world. As long as do the readings, fill in the blanks, and actually try on reflection papers you'll be fine.
This was one of my favorite classes. I learned a lot and the professor seems to be very passionate about sociology.
She is very passionate about her subject and really wants her students to learn and to think about the world. She is great at what she does and really cares about teaching. Great lectures and work!
Loved her. Very interesting and easy. Please take her.
Professor Tsuhako is down to earth and really wants her students to succeed. Her lectures are very thorough and informative. For the last assignment, she allows you to choose from her options of how you want to express what you had learned from the class. I chose the essay cause she tells you exactly what she wants in it. I highly recommend her.
She is brilliant! I would advise if you want to take her short semester classes, to attend every lecture because the extra credit given by doing the lecture outlines bump up your grade LIKE CRAZY. I recommend this professor if you dislike tons of homework and learn visually and auditory.
You just have to follow the directions for her assignments and you will receive an A.
She is a really great teacher, even though the workload is quite dense (For a 9-week Course). It is pretty straight forward since she pwovides all of the documents for you to read and write about. No need to purchase any books. You can turn in late work!!
A bit far out in the game of this website BUT would like to say Professor Joy is the REASON I majored in Sociology. Her class was inspirational, to say the least. She has clear lectures, manageable assignments, and phenomenal projects! If you ever get the chance to take her for any SOC classes at Cerritos DO IT!!! 10/10 Recommend!!
very very straightforward. one film (plus one page essay), a few readings with quotes, and a weekly discussion. you know what to expect each week. NO TESTS OR EXAMS. your grade is what you make of it. is it some work? yeah. but it is not bad at all if you pace it through the week. gets a little repetitive though tbh
She is a really understanding and caring person and fun all around. The class isn't hard at all, and she accepts work no matter how late. The work consists of weekly reading or watching a film and writing a short reflection. The final is a 6-page essay and doing a social change experience. Honestly, just show up and do the work. It's an easy A.
Great professor! Passionate about the subject and I truly learned a lot about sociology. Accepts late work so if you don't pass this class with an A it's honestly on you for not doing the work. I will say there are 4-6 assignments every week so be prepared to not fall behind, and if you do, you can catch up! A lot of reading and discussion posts.
This is a reflective class, so there are no wrong answers. There are no tests or textbooks. Lots of discussions, readings, videos & lectures. Drawing required.
Professor Tsuhako's Soc 210 class is super informative and enjoyable. Easy reads and assignments. The films are great. No textbook required. She's kind and her lectures are really good. All of the assignments and lectures are interesting and good reads. Quite a bit of assignments but they're doable and simple.
Best professor ever, she was very clear during her lectures and teaches with so much passion. To pass this class with a C or better do the readings/watch the films and type what she asks of you, super easy. Also please show up to class an engage.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Such an easy A and so many easy extra credit opportunities. Professor Tsuhako is also great at what she teaches and she is also very lenient with grading. This is my first time studying sociology and I'm so interested in it that I'm considering minoring. Loved this class, and would 100% take it again with Prof. Tsuhako!
Professor Joy was great. I enjoyed her class. She does really fun assignments like drawing or our final was interviewing a person that already works in the field we want to get into.
Although I was in an online class Prof Tsuhako was interactive via announcements, emails and her videos. Was always easily accessible and her class is very easy as long as you put in the effort. There was always a chance for late work and extra credit + a very lenient grader. Would recommend securing a seat in her class.
Very caring and understanding professor. She is easy to approach when you need something and lets you turn in work late for full points. Would take it again!
Provides readings (so no textbook purchase), accepts late assignments, a lot of reading (stay on track), very informative class, many extra credit opportunities, and a kind professor! There's no way you won't pass this class with an A.
'Textbook' is the readings she provides (no additional costs) There's EC and an optional final. The only thing that saved my grade was the fact that she accepted late assignments! However, that doesn't mean you should wait til the last minute! Schedule your assignments so that it's fair on both ends! Overall great professor just communicate.
She's a very caring and understanding professor. A quote from her that stuck with me was, "Why would I try to make your life even harder than it is?" Do the extra credit lecture outlines to gather points and it'll boost your grade a lot. She's a student herself finishing her doctorate so she's very understanding if you have things going on.
I took her class in the spring of 2024. she is overall an amazing professor she truly does care about the wellbeing of her students. I took her faster pace course but even then if you fail, you didn't try. She is very straightforward when grading and gives helpful feedback.
Prof. Tsuhako is truly one-of-a-kind! What a gem! This class is laid out so well. Her modules are clean and simple. There were no exams! Lots of readings and writings, but not too difficult. She is a very fair grader. When she says she is there for your success, she means it. For a speedy summer class, easy to get an A! (JULY/2024)
Great Professor. She responds to emails quick and is more than happy to help you out with any assignment you don't understand. Her assignments are easy to understand as long as you do the readings and watch the videos. Extra credit is also provided.
For an online class, I recommend taking her. Her lectures are recorded videos, for extra points fill out the outline provided pertaining to the videos. She responds quickly when you email her, she provides excellent feedback on your assignments, lots of reading, but those readings are your discussions, homework, and drawings. Great Professor!
Prof. Tsuhako is an excellent professor that truly cares about her students. Her class emphasizes genuine learning over grades, all readings are provided for free, and there's no exams or quizzes! She has many extra credit opportunities as well so it's very easy to pass her class if you're engaged at all.
Very quirky teacher. I would say this class went against conventional and was a memorable unique experience. She is constantly involving the students in regard to how the class goes about, and created engaging class discussions. Even when I was weeks behind I passed with an A. Super easy class, and she truly wants you to pass.
Professor Tsuhako has an amazing teaching style that truly puts her students first. The grading scale she uses makes it extremely easy to pass this class and while she does take attendance, she is seemingly extremely lenient on her attendance policy. Overall an amazing lecturer and I would take her again for sure.
This class was really easy and her assignments were very clear. She accepts late work and is patient with her students. I would take again an easy A in this class. `
Professor Tsuhako was amazing she is very passionate about sociology. Her in person lectures are very interesting. Homework was easy just reading or video/movie and then a you write like a 250 word reflection. I would take her class again I learned a lot.
honestly if you fail this class you literally didn't try at all. I took her during the summer she was nice and very easy class. Let's you turn in late work and an easy grader.
The only reason I said difficult is because the topics can get heavy and it can be hard to hear the information but it is very easy homework. Incredible lectures, some of the best I've ever heard. Firm but kind and her passion for native plants and sociology is respectable and inspiring. Great teaching and great content for films and reading.
Professor Tsuhako is very passionate about what she teaches. She is caring and responds promptly to emails and Canvas messages. She has a very lenient work policy. She values engaging class discussions based on the week's lecture. I normally don't like group projects, but the group project she assigned turned out to be quite enjoyable!
Unpopular opinion but I find her class to be extremely underwhelming. I didn't appreciate how she pushes her own agenda onto her students and is easily frustrated when other people don't share her opinions. She's a definition of a hippy professor who preaches about Good vs. evil which threw me off. I also find her to be too idealistic to tolerate.
Such an amazing professor. Her course is already setup so all you have to do is get the work done. I took her in Summer 2024. It's mostly discussions or watching a film or reading a memo and answering questions. There is a final where it asks about your background and I love that she is very welcoming about various people's identities. Very caring!
Prof. Tsuhako accepts late assignments. Thank God because I was abroad while enrolled in her class and I had discussed that I am behind on submitting assignments. Prof Tsuhako was very understanding grades the assignments without taking points off. A real-life saver!
Great teacher and very passionate about her subject. Great feedback and answers back to questions right away. Lots of videos and lectures but if you take notes this isn't a hard class at all.
This social studies class was not a good fit. The professor focused heavily on social and political issues like privilege and victimization, which often overshadowed the actual course material. I prefer a more balanced approach, so I would not take this class again or recommend it.
