Joy is a very nice person. She is harder than other teachers on campus but you will learn alot more than the easyer teachers. She is new, so just geting her flow down, but she tries hard and I have no doubt she is imporving. Go to beacon and you should be able to pull a (A) in the class. Joy will go the extra mile if you have any questions.

I like the class very much. This Bio 431 is not a class that you can eased through it. You must work hard to get a good grade of a B or an A in the class. Joy is a wonderful professor. Sometimes she's hard at times but you will get something from her and the class. I recommend that you read your materials, form study group and come to Beacon.

I had her for both 430 and 431. If you take her over summer, make sure you are not working full time; you can pull a B. Taking her in fall or spring is much easier! She mentored under Prof. Woolsey, so has the same materials and hard style. But, I have learned SO much and have become a better student after taking Joy. She gives lots of extra credit

I have never been challenged this much in school. Joy's class is not easy but you will learn a lot from her class. i wish she teaches all my classes now. If you are planning to take her, be prepared. You need to preview the lecture materials. Otherwise, you will get lost fast.

Joy is a very good teacher. The class is hard but you can't expect A&P to be easy, you have to put in the work. She is very lenient and gives lots of extra credit. I would recommend taking her. If you do the work and make an effort she will help you out.

She is a great teacher. Very interesting class. She brings a lot of clinical cases to the class. She teaches a lot of physiology and expect you to study most of the anatomy in the lab. It is helpful to study with one or two lab partners. She gives a quiz every day. You have to study hard to get a good grade in her class.

The good: all of her lectures are on blackboard, all material is consistent with book, and she tells you what's on the test. The baｄ：I've seen her be kind of mean to learning disabled students using DSPS services.

Is the best biology teacher! If you'll study A is possible. Quizzes are given every time you come to class and there is five tests. Helps you and wants everyone to pass. Wish there were more professors like her.!!

Very challenging class but fair and with lots of opportunities to make-up points and extracredit, but you must pay attention, be present and perform assignments, you can't wait till the night before the test to study!

I thought Prof. Zhao was a tough but very fair professor. If you are willing to really study and read, you will do fine. She will not accept excuses if you "have no time" to do the work, but that means you probably don't have time for school in the first place. She is very knowledgeable and wants everyone to get an A. Joy is a very helpfull teacher. she'll do anything to help u pass the class! but u really have to study! every class session there is a quiz on the last lecture, it's helpfull b/c u know what's going to be on exam. I took Joy during summer for 431, it was really intensive but she is always willing to help, and she knows a lot. I highly recommend her to anyone, but you are going to have to study hard, bio is not an easy course but she will make it interesting.

The class is fun. The tests are hard. She makes lectures interesting. I am surprised that I actually enjoyed a science class! But if you want to get an "A", you have to work extremely hard.

This Prof was really interesting. I learned so much in this class, and I did not even like bio. This class is not easy, but if you do your homework, use the study guides, come to class, and take notes, you will pass this class with at least a B. She is really cool, let my class use a little paper of notes for the final I would recommend taking her.

This is a 4unit class, you have to be present not to miss any lecture and you have to study. Joye is fun and she wants you to pass. She will help you all she can and knows her stuff! If she doesnt, she will get back to you. Not an easy class, but I recommend this professor.

Amazing teacher, very upbeat and on top of everything. Extremely knowledgable and if she doesn't know she is willing to find out. All around helpful class and I wish she was teaching the other biology classes i needed. She is a tough teacher but you learn a TON!

Professor Zhao is GREAT, she was born to be a teacher! She explains the material in a short and understandable way, she is fun to be around, very friendly and respectful to the students. But you have to study! I made an A in her class without killing myself. PS Go to D2L, print her lectures from there , study, and you'll be all set for an A ;)

Joy is absolutely AMAZING! She is one of the best teachers I have ever taken. She knows her stuff, she's stay on topic, and is always willing to help or slow down her lectures. She's also a pretty fair grader. I would take her again for any other science classes. BUT if you miss a day of lecture you miss A LOT!

Really good teacher. If you have questions she'll answer it. She really wants you to pass and tries really hard for the class to get motivated and participate. Show up or you won't understand anything next time and read your book and take great notes. Hard class but its passable with an A if you work hard.

I loved taking Biol 431 with Zhao! At first, I thought she'd be a tough teacher, since she has high expectations. But she is very helpful and fair(ie she'll throw out quizzes if too many people struggled), and her teaching style really matched my learning style. She talks fast, but she reiterates often, and her tests are based on her lecture.

At first she seemed like the worst possible bio teacher u can take, but with time I saw why she does what she does and if I could I would take her again

Mrs.Zhao is very prepared and you can tell that she loves teaching biology. The class was lecture and lab the same day, which was very efficient way to do biology. Tests are multiple choice with short essays. There were short quizes and extra credits to help our grades. I would take Mrs.Zhao for all my biology classes if I could.

Professor Zhao is a challenging Professor, but that is what school is all about, being challenged!! I look foward to taking her again this Fall for Bio 431. Great teacher, but if you expect to skate bu take another teacher!!

She's one of those professors you will remember for being passionate about their subject. She's the best for bilingual students, since she's bilingual herself. Professor Zhao is one of the best professor I've ever have. Her teaching method is excellent. You need to work hard on the class and do not slack off. I'm a student at sac state & her teaching method is extremely intense which is 10X better in what they teach at csus. D subject is hard but she will prefer u to become a better nurse. If u want to provide full quality care to ur patient take her bc she will give u the full knowledge u NEED TO KNOW about Bio431. Can be intimidating at d beginning.

Most amazing teacher I have ever had! She took me under her wing, guided me through the class and made what I assumed would be a C into an A. She is always available for help. Everything on exams are shown beforehand. Excellent study guides. Homework info is almost always essay test questions! Keep up your studying and you should get an A!

I took this Professor, and Loved her, I dont know why some people on here say rude comments, she is extremely helpful, very nice, and explaines her lectures very well, I recorded her lectures and came home to relisten and fill in the blanks that i missed in class! Her exams are lecture heavy! Take her! She is the BEST!

Definitely a tough professor but will help you through the course. Its a tough class to begin with so you must study a lot. Her study guides were never helpful though and always ended up putting different material on tests! Overall a good professor!

Professor Zhao is ONE of the best Anatomy Professors you can come across in ARC campus. She is extremely helpful and knowledgeable in Biology. I really enjoyed her class and just coming to her office hours for extra help she is willing to explain material to you. Of course, you have to study really hard in this class in order to get that A :)

I love professor Zhao! Anatomy and Physiology is a tough subject but this teacher really takes her time to ensure her students understand the material. Her lectures are clear. Do the homework on your own because it is meant to help you on your exams. Gives quizzes daily and usually gives extra credit on quizzes and exams. Amazing and caring!

I loved her! The lectures were so interesting, I learned so much! Plus the teacher is caring, warm and funny. It is a tough class but the teacher is really fair and knows how to teach. I would take her classes again anytime! She loves teaching and loves her students.

Probably the best professor I will ever have taken. If you are searching for a prof. to get you an easy A in A&P, look into another field or check yourself. She will definitely make you earn your grade but will give you the best preparation to enter the medical field possible. Definitely wants to see you succeed but in more than her class, in life.

A&P should never easy. This class is not easy, but it's worth it. Your future career is worth it. Your patients' health is worth it. Like anything else in life, you get what you put in. Joy is passionate about teaching and truly wants you to succeed. So decide if you are ready to work hard. If you are, Joy will teach you tons!

Took her for both 430 and 431. Got A and B respectively. I have a BS in Business Admin. Toughest course I have ever taken. If you are not prepared to study 15 hours per week on this class, don't bother you won't succeed. A lot of memorizing as A and P should be. She will challenge and help you but only if you work for it.

Pay close attn to what she highlights in lectures--directly applies to tests. Take advantage of Science Study Center. Know your study strengths and apply to succeed. If you want a good grade be prepared to REALLY work hard for it. She will help, but it is on you. Started with 35, ended with 13 or so. She is tough well worth the fight.

Most of the bad reviews are because people don't realize how HARD A&P is. Don't blame the teacher because you didn't study enough. This class will be hard no matter which teacher you take. That being said, prof. Zhao is very nice and wants her students to do well. If you are confused to go her office hours or stay after class, she wants to help you

I took Joy for both 430 and 431 and earned an A in both, it was not easy. I studied about 20 hours diligently weekly, in addition; I studied for exams using the study guides, lecture notes , quizzes, and hw. I also recorded the lectures which helped when studying at home. I took pictures of models and did not attend open lab this semester.

This is a hard subject, if you do not study you will not pass regardless of your professor. With that being said, Prof Zhao does not make it harder than necessary, she really cares about her students and wants them to pass. She assigns homework, but it is for our benefit. She offers extra credit on her lecture/lab tests. I highly recommend her.

kind and diligent teacher. This class is tough and is less of a reflection of the teacher and more of the class. I suggest a study group( never in my life have I had one). She does assign homework for your benefit, tests are hard, but I received a B, while working full time and taking another class. Can get an A, if plate is less full.

keeps you in class entire time. No study guide, which is hard when tests are on 3/4 chapters, hard to know where she wants you to focus. Tons of homework 1-2 hrs a night ( not studying) Long lectures, shes funny and nice but there are easier teachers and yes this subject is hard but who you take matters and theres an easier way but its not here.

Zhao is amazing. She really cares and is pretty straight forward. Much better than the professor that I had for 431. Work hard to receive an A just like any biology class. Lecture kept getting postponed by this student Shawn but was overall good lectures.

Very caring professor who wants to you succeed. She takes her time explaining concepts and her study guides match the exams. Also, gives plenty of extra credit so it shouldnt be hard to get good grades. Just do all work and take time to study outside of class.

professor Joy is so amazing. Currently taking her right now, she makes class fun, her lectures are pretty long but they are worth it. Mini quizzes everyday before class, and it really help during unit exams. Everything on the exams is what she covers, so it's all up to you to work for your grade!

This class is hard but doable. She gave us 2 attempts on most of the exams & quizzes. Lots of lecture videos, homework, & reading. A con, she doesn't exactly tell you what you need to study for so you study for everything in that unit. You can take an alternative lab/lecture exam to replace your lowest one but it is a harder exam. Just study!

Quiz and exams you get 2 chances to take. Lecture heavy but doable due to prerecorded lectures (online class). Must read book before lectures & she provides decent study guide. Study everything even tho advises won't be on test cos it still ends up on exams/quiz. Very helpful if you meet individually for ? or feedback. Refers to book a lot.
