Doesn't go over lectures adequately. I've met only one person who liked her. Not nice to students who are struggling in her classes, almost wants them to quit.
Very easy Prof. Take her if you can
Good teacher if you really try...

She isn't very helpful....students who are struggling just continue to struggle and it sucks. I would recommend you not to take her. Seriously.
Terrible thats all i have to say.
Was completely unhelpful. I squeaked by in spite of her. Avoid her if you aren't very good at math.
She doesnt make an effort to help students that are having a difficulat time. Is very demeaning and assumes that students understand the material just because she does. If math isn't your thing, dont take her!!

She is a crazy lady! Everyone did so bad on her test that she made us retake it and I brought it to the math tutors and none of them could figure out what it was saying so they needed 2 other math professors to figure out her test! Way confusing and hard!
She is very hard to understand. She is very unhelpful and does not answer questions. She assumes everyone knows everything and she is very demeaning. She definately does not know constructive criticism.

She is sometimes hard to understand. If you catch on to math quick then you won't have a problem. If you are not good at math then stay away.
If you are thinking about taking her class, step out in front of a moving truck because that how much it is going to suck!!
I learned a lot in the class...however she teaches too fast and says understand and you with me? a lot. You have to learn to slowly nod your head because either way she's going to continue. She goes really fast, but that can be a good thing.
Every thing I was going to say has already been said, she is just a bad teacher.
her tests make sure you know your material. if you have everything down pat, you will do great. in my class, half the class got a's and the other half failed. you just have to know for sure what you are doing, not just sort of know it
Very difficult professor to learn from. Over 3/4 of the class ended up failing, and retaking it the next semester, with the only available prof....Joyati again! Did really well in all math courses untill I met Joyati. She almost killed me!
She is a great teacher and you will learn a lot and it will be very helpful, but she is not easy.
Meanest teacher in the world. Total witch.
Very strict, she watches the paper and has failed people who've gotten caught drinking. If you do the work you'll be fine. I learned a lot. take time to say hi, she'll love you.
Why is this lady still teaching? WORST PROF @WSU! very difficult to understand, doesn't clearly explain concepts and gets VERY angry when [CS] students in the class understand sorting concepts better than she does. grades on how well she likes you.
great teacher, fun, and interesting. She can blow up on times but makes up for it. Id recomend her but NOT for 210, hard class cant imagine a good prof for it. (dont let the easy start fool you)
I thought this class was very easy and that she taught it in a very good way. I understood everything that was taught.
She is strict but fair. It was the only math class I ever liked! She is the best in math She is nice but does not know **** about politics.
I Agree, the WORST PROF @ WSU as well. When everyone in the class practically failed the first test she made us take it home to do it. When I brought the test to the math tutors, they had no idea what it was, so 2 math prof's had to look at it.
She is always yelling that her son learned this stuff in 7th grade, making us look dumb because we cant understand her version of calc.
talks very fast and has an accent. I felt like she was more interested in getting through the material then understanding it. A bunch of people dropped out in the beginning of the semester. I eventually had to drop out as well so I wouldn't have an F
She seems more interested in keeping up with the schedule she set than teaching the material. Goes very fast and gives the impression she doesn’t want to help out, rather have you visit a tutor who is also confused.
Evil evil woman, avoid her if you can. Teaches far to quickly, rushes everything.
Yes she is a nice person... but as a math teacher she is horriable. The material covered in class is not so difficult but she rushes through thinks and makes you feel stupid when you ask her to slow down. I wouldn't take her again in a million years!
nice teacher learned a lot
Joyati knows her math but at times it is hard to learn from her. overall i enjoyed the class but i spent the time to learn the material. if you have to take calc 2 she is a good teacher if you are looking for an easy A she is not your gal
By FAR! The worst Prof I have ever had. Not only did she make me feel like an idiot, she would also refuse to answer questions on the homework during her office hours. Temper really shows her lack of ability. "A" student ended with a "C&qu
yells at you if no one asks questions then tells you you're stupid if you ask one. thinks her son better then you. will not help you if you have ? I got A w HS notes and no help from her even when I asked
The hardest math class I ever had to take. Tests are long and really hard. She gives no partial credit. She isn't always that approachable.
Saying you don't like math is like cutting my arm, enough said
just awful...the worst
I would spend extra time at the tutor so i could underssshhhhhhhhtand the material, and when I did it for math matical induction, I got an F on two of my assignments, and me and the tutor went through all the problems. Shes really sweet and nice but teaching is not her thing
Took Joyadi for a Discreet math class. I struggled through her class all semester. She moves way more quickly than her students can handle (Especially with her terrible Indian Accent that can be difficult to undershtand) She's not very helpful either (Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question).
Her way of teaching is horrible. Goes way too fast for us to handle. Yells at you for asking questions, but yells at you even if you don't. She's very demeaning and puts the class down. Also, her son is apparently the best student ever and is better than all of us. An indian accent makes it worse!!
This calss is really boring. She is damn demanding and not helpful. take with other teacher!
Seemed smart, but a bit unclear, and accent only contributes to confusion. VERY excited about math, and pretty funny. Pretty easy tests, if you're not an idiot.
The class is not that hard. Go to class, take notes, DO the homework which help your grade a ton, and you will get a fair grade. She is on a power-trip every day but it keeps you awake.
Take the calc companion because she tells you what she wants on tests/homework. Also, answer as many questions in class as you can, otherwise she gets mad. If she makes a mistake on the board correct her because then you get extra credit. Be thorough on the homework for full points, it helps!
Go to class and you will succeed.
She is an alright teacher, but talks a mile a minute. If you dont tell her to slow down, she will go on forever. Doesnt really "teach" just does problems from the book. Sometimes spends enture class going over one problem, and then leaves you clueless on the homework.
Pay attention!
C*nt of Calculus! She does not teach, she does examples. And shes one of those teachers who want you to remember forever, really learn and not just get a grade. . . and shell pick on you in class (not me).
Ya..... well she dosnt know how to SHOW you.. she just thinks that you should be able to do it. Do the homework and you can do pitty mad on your test. if you go in she will like you and ya. dont ask questions cuz she dosnt ever really answer them!
she is bad... that is all you can say. Can't talk, don't get me wrong she knows a lot, but she can't teach worth sh*t. I feel sorry for anyone who must wonder into her class. HONESTLY
She's an awesome person...very excited about math and life, and she's funny, but she's so intelligent that she cannot teach! She only goes through examples...and she talks very fast so make sure you tell her to slow down! If you take her...good luck!
She is a nice lady, but it is really hard. I am not that good at math and she doesn't teach you how to do it. She cares about you but gets frustrated with your questions really easy. Do the homework and it will help with your points a ton!
only take this from her if it's your only class, you have no job, and no life... because she will make sure it takes up all of your time!
She doesn't know anything that she is teaching! She doesn't explain things well, if you ask for help you won't be able to understand what she is saying. And then she grades everything hard. It should be an easy class but she makes it hard!
Joyati is nice. But she CANT TEACH. If you miss two classes she, gets mad. She grades each assignment so you can't just get points that way. And the tests are hard. When you get confused she says, "It's precalculus, you must undershtand". Oh,and she makes crappy analogies all the time. Supposedly the chain function is like leaving a baby in the car
She is the worst teacher i have ever had in all of my school years. Thats all i am going to leave it at. Shes nice and all but she just can't teach which is kinda a big thing for being a teacher.
She's easier once you understand how she teaches.
if you think Joyati is a bad teacher, you're wrong, it's as simple at that, she does things they way they are supposed to be done, the problem is, you people aren't willing to put in the work it takes so succeed in her class, maybe you just don't have the time to do so, then i have a great suggestion for you, don't take calculus
whats the deal with the bad ratings, man, this is crazy, joyati is the best math teachers i have ever had, sure she does not just give out A's or make things really easy, it is challenging, but she does things the right way, she cares about her students, and she knows her stuff, if you're gunna take calculus, take it with joyati and just work hard
Her English is like Shakespeare (it's English, but you can't understand it) and she goes on power trips. I'd take someone else...just my two cents worth.
She moves at 200 mph from the start of class until the end. She covers a lot and expects you to know a lot. She MAKES you do a lot of hw. I liked the way she teached, it forced me to learn. Her style of teaching isn't for everyone though. She's a hard butt.
Very Hard to understand. Hard to get questions answered. Sometimes makes you feel little. Try not to take.
Fairly easy class. Read the chapter before class, and take time on the homework and you will do fine. I had her for several math classes my first semester freshmen year. Test is usually a bunch of questions from the homework or lecture. Very good teacher, but it is easy to get lost if you don't pay attention. Don't take if you are lazy.
What a mean lady! Can't understand a word she says and makes everyone feel stupid. Avoid like the plague. I hated every minute of her class!
Hey. She is the best. You have to be interested to learn mathematics. It is difficult for me but I amdoing well only because of her. She is excited about teaching and mathemtics. Take her.Take her.Take her if you want your education money well spent. Do all the homework and come to the class. Explains everything well and expects you to do well too.
She is crazy !!!!!!!!!!!! But the class is very easy and she is a good teacher. Don't take this class with her if you don't like math otherwise she is going to make your semester miserable.
We learned so much of math. She will teach you everything you need. I say, take 440 from her if you want to learn. Hard course but a good one to take from aprofessor who knows well.
Absolutely awesome class. My favorite. Very talkitive, not just a sit-back class. Engaging. Recommend to people who want to be involved. Her stories are also hilarious.
Calculus Diva!! She will kick your butt..work hard, ask her when you get stuck, easy to talk to once you figure her out, very friendly, makes you learn the most. her enthusiasm rubs on you. I surprised myself.
She is hard, but if you try and really work at it. It will be worth it. She really wants you to do well in her class.
Are you kidding i HATED her.. she dosnt teach she just does problems. You can understand her most of the time. and when you ask a questino she makes you feel stupied for asking it! Take a dif celc teacher and save your self the pain!
Can honestly say I earned my C in her class. It's hard, but you will learn a lot. She can be very intimidating.
Joyati was very hard to get used to but her friendly nature and overall helpfull attitude kept my interest. she will go pretty fast but if you keep up, take notes, and attempt the homework, you should do fine. participate in class and go to tutoring. i earned my C and am proud of it :)
She is a pretty good teacher! You will learn a lot, but be prepared to do a lot of work. Her test are pretty hard, but overall she is not to bad of a teacher.
If you want to be prepared for math classes after calc, take Joyatti. She's very difficult but you learn A LOT! Very helpful as long as you're looking for help. Also, I found myself slightly attracted to her :)
I thought she was great!!! Calculus is hard to begin with and I thought she did a good job of breaking it down so it could be understood. If you do your homework and try hard to listen to her lectures it is managable.
Joyati was a great professor! She was very helpful and made sure we understood what she was teaching. She also has a sense of humor and has lots of stories to tell which makes class interesting. You should definitely take her class because she knows what she's teaching and I don't think she deserves the sad face that she's currently getting.
She's a very nice teacher, but she is difficult to understand. The class moves at a very fast pace, so unless you know exactly what you are doing this class will be very tough for you.
joyati if your reading this(which she says she does), YOUR AWESOME! i sucked at calc my senior year but i understood it so much more after taking this class. its definitely not easy, calc classes shouldn't be, but you do learn alot. she's willing to help you with any question and keeps class very fun and enjoyable. very nice lady..highly recommend
Joyati is just a great person! the class may seem really intense but if you manage your time, do the homework, and the review problems this class isn't tough. i promise you, if you have a problem, go in to talk to her. she is always willing to help and wants you to succeed. i would take her again in a heart beat.
Good teacher, isn’t afraid to stop to re-explain something. Her main goal is to have you smiling while you are learning. Just make sure that you keep up on the homework and do the review problems (for sure when they are extra credit). Not easy, but fun.
Joyati rules! She cares about her students and is more than willing to help wherever she can. Very sweet lady with a great sense of humor
joyati means well and wants you smiling in class. she'll always re-explain something which is cool. but she goes way fast and has a weird way of explaining things- i had trouble following her!! if you like math go ahead and take her but if you miss her class beware cause she gets offended and will ask where you were.
Joyati isn't a bad prof at all. She moves at a fairly quick rate, but that is because she has to get through alot of material. If you have had any other Math in college you will be fine, and even if you did't (like me) you will still make it through. Just don't get behind on the HW, and make sure your HW is neat cuz its worth 50 pts.
Joyati is an awesome teacher. She grades on numerous things so tests won't wreck your grade. Homework is worth a total 200 points and gives extra credit. Always smiling and telling funny stories. I'm not a math major and I enjoyed this class. Wish she taught Calc. She is a very nice lady who cares about her students and enjoys teaching.
She was the nicest teacher I have ever had. She cares about all of her students. She is crazy, but in a fun way. The class is pretty fast paced, but if you do the homework every night it won't be overwhelming in the end.
Great teacher, loves math and teaching, maybe a little too much. But she is always willing to help and wants her students to do well. I dont like math but she made it bareable. Overall great teacher especially if you really want to learn.
What a hard class-she made it so much easier to handle-she was there everyday all the time for help-asked her questions-answered with no problem. Take her class if you want o learn and feel good.Recommed her no reservation.
She says she is willing to help but then gets pissed if you ask her questions. She is very enthusiastic about math. I barely passed and I worked my ass off. You do stupid journals. I don't recommend her if you aren't very good at math.
She was a very helpful teacher and made sure that everyone in class were on the same page. I highly recommend her.
Be prepared to study well...she cares about you and your learning...don't skip classes and do all the homework. recommend her highly.
Don't take this professor, I used to enjoy math and she has ruined it, she is very unclear, when she is sick or gone you still must get to class, it is a vitory if one person passes her test she is extremely hard and extremely unclear and doesn't teach just shows problems on the board. DO NOT TAKE!
She talks waay too fast, she is hard to understand, she works through the problems like you already understand every bit of it. AVOID at all costs.
Joyati is great!! Very helpful and funny. She answers all questions. She explains it all and shows many examples. She lets us try first and walks to help in person. iam making good grade and learning too. Recommend her highly.
Joyati is the greatest teacher in the world! She expects you to work hard to achieve the grade you want...therefore not easy. She is always available to ask questions and offers extra credit to those who seek it. Great stories, including those about her son. Great professor!
she always gives extra work. lots of hw and she doesnt explains clearly.
Joyati is the nicest woman you'll ever meet. she's funny and REALLY loves math. But this is a hard class. if you don't really get math, or don't care anything about it, i wouldn't take it. But she'll answer any question and there are a lot of study sessions available. Even though it was hard, she was awesome!!
Joyati is super woman!! she can help 3 different students in 3 different problems! an incredible woman! hope you take her and enjoy the class, learn a lot and have fun learning it. best teacher ever. yes.
She is the best teacher i ever had. Go in for help and she will help out a lot. I never recieved a B or better in any math class, but i got a B+. This was the first time i took Applied Calculus, and i did really good in the class.
She is an incredible woman. She is hard working, caring, thoughful and very helpful to the students. She gave extra time for the students and helped us until we get the concepts. Take her to learn the real concepts of mathematics. You will be happy to learn.
I had a really hard time keeping up with the lessons. I left class everyday thinking I finally had the material understood and would get the test and look at it for about 20 minutes before I realized I had no idea what I was doing. My advice, do the homework after every class, and study for this one or you won't do well
I heard a lot of negative things about Joyati so I really wasn't looking forward to having her, however, I thought she taught this particular class really well. She lets you use a sheet of notes for every test and quiz, and usually gives you review problems that will completely prepare you.
She loves students who participate in her class. She is very helpful outside of class if you go to her. She is very energetic about math, but don't let that scare you. *cough*freshman*cough*
One of the Best Professor in Math! She builds cornerstone of your math and makes you crystal clear of the topic. You love to take the Math classes with her after you take once. She is very helpful.
Best ever! Makes clear explanations with great details. Very helpful. Understands the difficulty of the students. Go for help.
Joyati is a very good teacher. She cares alot about students learning the material. Attend class and practice the problems and you will understand the material. Her quizes and tests are pretty easy and you will get a C just on filling out the questions with somewhat appropriate work. So even if you only somewhat understand the material you wontfail
Joyati, if you read this, we want to say, thank you. Math was very difficult to us but now we know we need to think and apply ourselves. I might even minor in math.I will work harder in math now.
Joyati is an amazing lady. Shes a great teacher, and makes math interesting and fun. I hated math before taking her, and now I actually enjoy it. ANYONE who talks bad about Joyati, is a DUMBASS! Super easy, and EXTREMLY nice lady!
Easiest teacher i have ever had in my life!!! She makes pre-clac so much easier
Joyati is a great teacher! She can be SO funny at times..not too hard to understand. Love her huge nose ring! Basically go thru examples in class every day. No real tests, just chapter quizzes. Final covered two chapters. I def. recommend attending the SI sessions where you just go over more examples. I was surprised with how much i learned!
Absolutely a great teacher!! Cares a lot! No big exams but many small tests. Ask questions and attend the study sessions. She gives credit if you answer her questions. she walks around to see if any body needs help. Do all the work as she says. I had a great math class..for the first time.
Best ever...fun...quiz evry week. recommend her highly. Way to go Joyati!
Can not tell what she is tryin to say and she goes way to fast,
Joyati is super great! If you study you will make the greatest grade. She explains so well and makes it easy. Math has never been so much fun.
Joyati is cool but intense. Will remind you several times to use your time effectively. Attend study sessions, go to the tutors, get help.
Joyati is the best. She can make hard concept really easy to understand. Recommend her.
Do your homework, answer questions during lecture, and smile whenever you see her in the hall; she will be the nicest teacher you've ever had. She's strict and has high expectations, that shouldn't be a surprise, she'll tell you that. Do any outside of class activity she offers, she won't forget it.
Do not take her. she is not clear at all. Just does the problems from book without teaching the techniques...have to do a lot of home works and Attendance is mandatory.. she asks why you missed a class if you miss one...
She explains everything very very clearly. She is a technique lady. She shows all the techniques in details. She helps each and every student in class. She writes really well and expects all to write well too. Take her by all means if you want to learn.
Joyati is a nice teacher, BUT she can't teach. attendance mandatory and if you miss classes, she gets mad. grades hard, goes through examples only and she MAY pick on you ....
generally nice lady, although very stubborn. gets a little TOO involved with her students. if you answer questions too often she expects you to know the answer to every question, and makes you feel stupid when you don't know or have the wrong answer. sit in the back, attend every class, be quiet, always have your TI-83 and book...you should be fine
She doesn't speak very good English, and she moves very quickly. She does questions straight out of the book and solves them herself, you seem like you understand it, and then she quizzes you on stuff that just confuses you. If this course if offered by anyone else, take the other person, I would not Recommend her at all
Goes threw material/examples way too fast. Doesn't explain very well. Expects everything to be learned online. Do not recommend her.
She is not helpful at all. she goes through the assignments realy fast. she expects you to learn everything from one or two examples. Explains nothing. I would not take her if you already struggle with math.
She was great. She's there to help you learn. Listen, take notes and pay attention and you'll do fine. Ask her questions if you don't understand something; she'll answer them for you. I would recommend her.
Tells too many pointless stories and doesn't teach. Her accent can be distracting and she only accepts perfection.
Joyati gets distracted easily and will go off in tangents ALL THE TIME. She expects you to know all the material, and she will get angry if you do not know something. She is a really nice person, and she is easy to talk to, but i would not recommend taking this class if you want to get a good grade.
Joyati is a great person. She just isn't good at explaining things well. She thinks you should understand her way of thinking. This class was difficult at times but if you are good at math take this class.
She can be very hard to understand and often refuses to answer questions. For the first half hour of every class she would talk about nothing relating to math and goes off topic regularly. When she did decide to teach she was alright but avoid if possible.
Get anyone else. Can read other reviews and see shes hard to undersatnd, heres a few ways to show it. Shes one of those people who by 7th grade was taking calc and doesnt get how people dont understand it. A math major is avoiding a class because shes the only one offering it. Shes nice and good at math, just really not good at teach other others.
wow! i was surprised to see negative comments on Joyati. i might not be getting good grade but i could honestly say how much i learned from this class. students should be open to the diversity and accept people that way they are. you are here to learn and try learning. best teacher ever in my opinion. i would highly recommend.
Class work is hard. Teacher's examples don't help. Prof likes to tell stories. Offers extra credit and study sessions 2 nights a week (saved my grade, but were very time-consuming)
She is a very passionate teacher. I think sometimes her passion can cause confusion among some students. Yes her class is hard BUT I have never met a teacher that is more willing to help her students than she is. If you take the incentive to seek her out - she will make sure you understand the information and help your grade in the class.
Debnath has a wonderful personality! However her teach. style can be difficult &she can seem condescending at times. She loves it when you ask questions She allows calc. and notecards for her exams and her exams are easy if u just study ur HW. Overall she is a good professor but u will have to do a lot of work on ur part to understand the material.
Switch teachers as soon as you can! She is hard to understand and over uses the Aleks software.
Only teacher in Winona State who is too good. I m happy that I dropped the class. All I learned in class is her son has a dual degree in Maths and B.chem. He has a 4.0 and more about him n his school. Dont ever take a class from her.
It is correct, all she talk is about her son, her achievements, way to much. very annoying sometime. Do not take any class from her!
She is really great! Do not believe the ratings. I was sceptical but after having her this semester i realize if you come to the class and do your work you will do well. She can make math easy and fun.
Dr. Debnath is a good teacher overall, though she can go a bit fast at times. She gives many examples for the problems and welcomes questions. She also sets up study sessions with tutors available which helps a lot with the online homework which becomes available to do right when class ends. Overall, I would recommend her.
she needs a really hard work to get a good score !! She is fair but not helpful .. better to teach yourself on her class!
Hard prof and hard to understand
Professor Debnath is a very nice parson but she can be hard to understand at times. I had taken Pre-calc in high school and it wasn't that hard for me, so coming into this class I wasn't expecting it to be hard. The only hard part about it was the homework because it was online. Some sections have a lot of problems so don't slack off on it
Loved her class this semester. You can't find anybody in the middle, either you absolutely love her or you would never like her. She demands thorough understanding and appreciates if you answer questions or ask some.
Horrible. she expects you to answer in 30seconds or less, relies on ALEKS program..which is horrible, i want to drop. If you get her, drop her.
Joyati is a great women but her class is tough if you're not already good at math. She relies on Aleks to teach you and expects 160-200 hours on Aleks by the end of the semester. Her test are extremely hard, if you expect to do good do all of the class work she gives you. In the end if you're not good at math avoid her at all cost.
AVOID! Worst professor I have ever had. She is very rude. If you ask for help she will make you feel stupid. She expects you to know everything after she buzzes through her lecture. She doesn't teach! She is horrible and assigns so much homework. Her exams are fairly short, but all the material she puts on the exams she hasn't gone over!
This professor is very confusing. She's funny and a great person. She just can't teach. I've never been bad at math. Yet in this class I struggled a lot! She uses ALEKS and thats where all the homework is at. Her lectures are hard to understand. She's willing to help, but makes you sound stupid. I felt very discouraged to learn math.
Lectures are long and boring. She hardly teaches the material and very few examples. LOTS of Aleks homework. Get ready to teach yourself and learn from Aleks or be clueless. Ask her a question and she will be rude and no help at all. Nice lady, gives lots of life lessons, but terrible teacher. I only did good because i learned it all in high school
terrible professor
She talks fast, wants answers in seconds, and scolds students for lots of little things. I wasn't getting the best grades and she constantly brought up how other students have already finished everything. Use ALEKS every single day or you'll fail, and have at least 100+ hours put aside for it, more if you struggle. $200 book was unopened.
Joyati is my own personal devil. I thought I was good at math until she got to me. She was gone the first week of classes, oversuses the ALEKS program and does not actually teach. Never once used the book. If you can take another professor DO IT!! Even other professors understand the issues everyone has with her.
if you need to be succed in math don't take with her any calss
awful class. the ALEKS online homework is bad enough with a good teacher, but debnath somehow makes it worse. she is very hard to understand, and often rambles on about random things that have no relevance to the topic at hand. 210 stars
Joyati is the hardest math teacher at Winona State. It is unreal that she depends on the Alek program so much.. The test are really hard and if you are not really good at math I would not suggest taking her. By the end of the Semester the 30 people that were enrolled in her class shrunk to about 14 people.
Worst professor at WSU. She is hard and it is impossible to do good on her test unless you excel at math greatly. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Ten reasons to take Precalculus from Prof. Debnath 10. You get your money worth 9. Unlimited time to upgrade the homework scores 8. Practice tests given before every exam 7. All exams are final, last exam is not comprehensive 6. You get credit for class attendance, 20% of your grade 5. You get extra credit for going to the study sessions
The homework is hard to keep up with and you never really feel like the class prepared you for the test. She is a good person, but awful professor. Tons of people fail and even more drop. I went from a full classroom to only a handful of students by the end of the year.
Dr. Debnath is to this day one of my favorite professors I have ever had. She makes a real effort to help you if you want to get a good grade. She provides study sessions with specialized tutors twice a week. Make it a habit to show up, because she will bump up your grade if you've attended some of these. Plus, she's hilarious.
Joyati is a great person. She really cares about her students grades and answers any questions you have for her through email almost 247. I had a hard time with the Aleks homework, which there was a lot of, but there are practice exams given out before every test that are very similar to the actual exam. Study sessions with tutors twice a week.
Prof Debnath was the worst professor I have had in college. DO NOT take her. She was rude, unhelpful, and her lectures were impossible to follow. I had to teach myself from the book after every class. The Aleks homework that she assigned was never ending, and didn't help you learn the material on the tests. Stay away if you want to keep your GPA up
Joyati is extraordinarily helpful, and friendly, she is hilarious. But, expect 100+ hours of out of class work on the ALEKS program. She does offer tutoring sessions, and extra credit if you attend them.
She is a great person to get to know outside of her class room. The moment you step into her class its a new adventure. You wont feel like you are prepared for the tests and if you ask her to do similar problems that will be on the exam expect her to laugh at you. Homework doent follow lecture. Notes are very disorganized. Very poorly taught class.
once you get to class you basically teach yourself on an online system. she will help out when asked only. expect lots of homework.
She takes attendance which sucks because in lecture she hardly teaches any new material. What prepared me the most for her tests were the online homework assignments we had to do for ALEKS. Unfortunately those take A LOT of time so you have to keep up. She also put a test on the Tuesday before thanksgiving so that made me a little less thankful...
She tries to explain everything but given the online textbook, the information is not taught in an organized fashion, which causes the class to be confusing. I would rather work on the homework and put her on mute than listen to her in class since it does not seem to help me any. She knows how math applies to the real world. Work ahead on ALEKS HW.
Joyati loves attendance and participation. However, she is not very understanding. The book is online and we barely ever used it, but the homework online must be done. This class should be an online class, I learned more from the online program than I did in her 2 hour lectures. She is not very nice either if you have a problem and need help.
Her lectures are so unclear that you can't take keep up & take notes. You'll have lots of homework that is on Aleks & it's worth 40% of your grade, so try & keep up on it. Tests are 40% as well & somewhat difficult, but you're given a study guide that helps. Attend the tutor sessions bc its extra credit. Attendance is mandatory. AVIOD IF YOU CAN
Joyati is amazing! She is truly a great professor, and she is an amazing person to be around. She is super helpful and fun. She is willing to go above and beyond to help her students.
This class is all online. She relies on ALEKS for the whole class. We never had a lecture, but class is still mandatory. You have to hit a time goal of 8 hours a week, which is a lot. The only good thing is that if you finish early you can be done early. If you know precalc well then take her
One of the most caring, helpful teachers I've ever had. I've always struggled with math but Joyati went out of her way to help me succeed. My section of 115 was based largely on ALEKS, which I understand isn't for everybody but I loved it. If you are willing to put in the effort, she will help you any way she can.
Dr. Debnath is very kind. She is always available outside of class to help if needed. The one thing that sucks is just the Aleks program she makes us do. If you slack on the homework which is assigned all at once you will get very far behind in her class! Its a basic 100 level class and yet I have more homework in that class over all my others.
Joyati is a wonderful woman. All of the homework is done online through the ALEKS program and its not difficult to learn on your own. The only test you take is the final and its worth 30% of your grade. She cares a lot about her students and gets very excited when somebody has a question. She also wont hesitate to repeat herself. Overall great.
Joyati is the most amazing professor I have ever had. She cares about each of her students and goes out of her way to make sure they will be successful in her class. The class is not hard to pass as long as you meet the weekly time goal and finish the certain amount of topics per week. I looked forward to coming to her class everyday.
Debnath is a decent teacher, however it can be hard to understand her advice with her accent. She is easily accessible but I would not recommend her if you are emotionally sensitive because you will cry.
UNDERSTAND HOW ALEKS WORKS!!! It's a class that students who can get a lot of math done in a small matter of time benefit from. She is very good at emailing back and answering questions. Sometimes she can come off a bit harsh when asking a question about the same problem more than once. But overall a good teacher. Attend extra credit days !!!!
All online not once did we get taught a lesson. No learning just doing, I would have taken an online if I wanted one!
It is all online. The class is in person but the program she uses is Aleks and she is more of a tutor, there if you need her. I worked hard to get an A and spent a lot of nights late at the library.
I would never take her again if I have a choice. Her lectures are very unclear. Gets mad if we don't know something. She expects you to know everything she teaches. . She is accessible outside so do visit her office hours. Make sure you have very good questions for her in office hours or else she will yell at you.
Do not take her class. She is the absolute worst. I had to drop her class because she is very very rude. Just avoid her.
AVOID!! If you don't understand something she will make you feel dumb. She doesn't teach she just walks around and says "I'm here! " Her final is worth 30% of your grade so get ready to study more for this one hundred level class than you will for a four hundred. Joyati doesn't teach a single thing - the class is completely online but in class.
Withdrew because she can't teach.
Joyati to me seems to be a caring person. But that Side of her pretty much disappears the moment you criticize aleks. The program itself which she makes you use for precalc is PuNIshINg. Get one wrong, oh you just lost your toe. two, a leg, three, your head. Explanations are garbage and she thinks Aleks is the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ himself
Professor Joyati is the worst professor I have encountered. She is clearly not a native English speaker, which is fine, but there's a certain standard to be upheld for the sake of clarity. Synonyms are not acceptable when it comes to mathematical terminology. For instance, "periodic patterns" vs "periodic functions". Specificity is important.
Even thought last semester she gave me an A, she is just horrible. I basically had to teach myself everything online. My money went to waste taking her class. Her lectures don't have any clarity to it. She cares about you but her sense of love is just horrible. Avoid taking her class if you are not down to teach yourself.
Relies way too heavily on ALEKS and attendance is mandatory 4 days a week. Class is a waste of time because it's just an hour of her answering questions. ALEKS is a roughly $100 access code and you could honestly get the same education by only purchasing ALEKS and not doing the actual class through the university. This class is a waste of money.
Joyati is a wonderful person but less good as a teacher. She is very accessible outside of class and is flexible with due dates of assignments. However, the entire class is taught through an online system and she just acts as a tutor during class time. Only take if you like to teach yourself.
Aleks was the only tool used in the class. Work-by-yourself and then if you have questions you can ask them in the zoom meetings. Otherwise primarily learning from examples Aleks may give. Grading was weird, two questions wrong on a test could set you back ten or more topics, which you have to make up. Joyati was always cheerful in zoom though.
she enjoys answering questions. she is very animated. she will show you how to solve the problem and she makes sure you learn it. the class format was a little wonky because students progressed at their own pace. so questions could be from things you already did or have yet to do.
I had Joyati for 2 classes before & during covid, both ways were intense and tons of work. She doesnt teach lessons, just makes you ask questions & then yells and makes you feel stupid (in front of the entire class) because you dont know. She uses ALEKS & Knewton Alta which is nice to see progress but its 3 times the work than other math classes.
Its extremely hard to teach yourself calc. Thats bascially what I did all semester. If you ask questions that you dont know how to do she gets a little hostile and rude in front of the whole class which is embarassing and made me never want to go. You get a good grade in her class if you do ALL of the work and spend HOURS every DAY. Good luck :)
Professor Joyati takes on a almost mother figure, than a professor role in her classroom. I would have to say that although she is a good motivator, the class setup is terrible. All you do is an online learning application that you need to finish by the end of the semester. It is over 300 topics, which have 5 questions at most each. Please avoid!!
Joyati is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is rude and mean anytime you disagree with her and she thinks that all of her opinions are right. I failed the class with a 59% which is 1% below a passing grade and Im pretty sure she tampered with my grade to make me fail. I have seen her be rude to people but to gay people she is awful.
She is stubborn and bad grader with letting down feedbacks to my class mates
Joyati is great as far as personality goes, she is very encouraging and kind- the only problem I have is with the program ALEKS that she uses. Ive always struggled with math and when I reached out to ask her what I can do to improve, she kinda just told me to meet the time goals, as if I can do 6 hours of math a week with a full time job.
Professor Joyati primarily uses the online learning website "Knewton Alta" for Calculus I. If you are stuck on a question, she is helpful and wants to make sure you understand it. For being completely online, she did a pretty good job and making sure she was there for her students. She also is pretty flexible with due dates as long as it gets done.
Avoid this professor, especially if you struggle in math.. She does not teach during class, she only tutors. She is rude and inconsiderate, especially in emails, and thinks that everyone understands math as well as she does. Be ready to do alot of math homework and teach yourself. If you get on her bad side, you likely won't pass the class.
Doesnt teach and if you ask a question you will never get a straight answer. Easily the worst professor/teacher I have ever had in my entire life.
To be fair, the online system is not well designed & the content is very poor. All through this course most of her communications were long anti-plagiarism tirades, and some of my marks were so unexpectedly low that it seemed to be personal. The overall vibe I got was of someone who can't understand why people aren't polymath geniuses like she is.
this class will be a waste of your time. Do not take it, go straight to calc. she does not teach anything, she just lets ALEKS teach it (online learning). You go to class only to be able to ask her questions and she does not lecture anything, yet attendance is still mandatory. She also will not tell you when assignments are assigned or even due.
I took this class over the summer and had 2 months to teach myself calculus entirely because she did not teach at all. You get a program called Knewton and if you get a problem wrong it sends you back to do around 3 extra problems just to complete the section. I spent 7+ hours PER DAY doing math and was still behind. I'm usually strong in math.
There was a fee of $102.00 no one was told ahead of time. She is a nice person but not a good professor, she only teaches how she knows and won't be flexible with how you yourself learns, and she doesn't understand personal space. She only lets you use the calculator applied to the online application and will ridicule you if you use a different one.
Dr. Joyati is one of the best professors I've ever had. She clearly cares about her students. I once needed help with some assignments on ALEKS on the weekend and she spent 3 hours helping me. Really kind and considerate. If you take the time to get to know her too, you really begin to appreciate her more :)
When it comes to math Joyati is a little inconsiderate with feelings. I am one who when I get stress I shut down she doesn't care about that ONLY MATH. I was expecting to be taught review for this class I was met with a surprise of $102 for ALEKS this online course doesn't even teach you well I would drop this class if it wasn't required for myself
In simple words, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She is the worst teacher I ever had, I don't even hate doing Maths but she made it so difficult to learn. JUST DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
She doesn't give lectures in class. Instead, her class is a time to ask questions about the homework. You don't use the book given in class. Instead, the professor has you buy a $100 course called Aleks, which you're supposed to learn from instead. And if you don't understand the material, her help is more criticizing your work rather than helping.
DO NOT TAKE THIS!! she doesn't teach at all she makes you buy a $102 online course and doesn't walk through any of the problems you're pretty much on you're own, and she's so hard to understand
Professor would not help me no matter how many times I ask her to help me, she just tells me to search online
Go in with an open mind and be ready to learn. She's very misunderstood, but is always just trying to help (even when she's coming off strong). Just do your work and you'll have nothing to worry about
She is a good professor. She loves it when you ask for help instead of keeping to yourself. Cheat sheets are available and she wants you to use them. She doesn't lecture unless asked by a student. Class attendance is part of your grade. There's not a heavy amount of work. As long as you show up to class you should pass her class.
I believe Joyati could be an amazing professor, if she actual taught anything. I paid for that class just to teach it to myself. 300 topics that are all completely online. She gets frustrated if you don't understand right away, but will help you understand as much as she can. I recommend this class, but not this professor.
Joyati is kind, sometimes. She has a bad rap but loves helping students when they ask. However, this class required an insane amount of work on an online math software, and there were no lectures explaining, you have to do it yourself or ask for help on all 300 topics. Could work for you if you're good w/ math, didn't work for me. No Phones allowed
she doesn't do any Letcher class time is just sitting and doing a site online while she walks around and helps but she would go on long rants about her son or how her last students loved her and how her dad made her do 50 math problems a day. won't let you use a calculator unless the sites give you one. She is an good person but a horrible teacher.
You have to buy an online course to teach yourself 300 topics. She won't actually teach, she just walks around while you work on problems and criticizes you when you get a problem wrong. When you do ask for help she gets in your face and asks how you don't understand. She constantly gets into your personal business. No calculators or phones allowed
She doesn't teach. You'll buy a online course for $100+ and attend class just to teach yourself. Attendance is mandatory and she'll talk to you if you miss class. I always hated asking for help because it felt like she made a big deal about everything.
My favorite professor this semester. Yes you are graded on attendance and all the course work is online but showing up makes the course enjoyable. Joyati is incredibly kind when you get to know her. She enjoys her students and wants to encourage them constantly. Positive attitudes and asking questions go a long way in her classroom.
This class was ABSOLUTELY terrible. When you ask her questions she diminishes you. She thinks math is the most important thing in the world and doesn't understand that we all have lives and other priorities besides one pre-calc class. The workload is insane and I would transfer before I ever have her as a professor again. You've been warned!!!!!!!!
She can be straight forward with students and some people cannot handle it. Calc is a hard class for many people to wrap their brain around. It's not a class you can memorize you need to conceptually understand the material. Those who don't conceptually understand math will struggle with this class.
You might as well just drop out and teach yourself calc because that's what you do in this class anyway. You also have to pay $100 to do the homework. Joyati is the type of teacher...oh wait, she doesn't teach. She is basically a babysitter who sits there and talks nonstop about her son, hiking, her health...basically anything but math.
Joyati's class is a unique experience - you'll spend a lot of time on an online math platform, but her genuine desire to help students shines through. unstuck study ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
This class is really difficult to do since you pay $120 for an online program called ALEKS where you have to complete 25 topics PER week. Once you get to the harder topics it gets harder and harder to complete them. Joyati is helpful sometimes, but 90% of the time you are teaching yourself the material.
The entire course is taken online on a program you pay $100 for. She doesn't lecture, which is nice if you like to go at your own pace but it's difficult when you're stuck on something and she isn't there to help you. When she does help she is a fantastic teacher, one of the most genuine professors I've had.
If you want to get taught anything switch professors she won't teach anything but tell you random stories about nothing not a teacher just a babysitter
Where do I start, Prof. Joyati is super kind and caring, however, she is blunt almost rude if you don't understand where she is coming from. In my opinion she is very sweet and wants the best for her students. But thats where the compliments end, this class was just awful ALEKS was 100+ dollars, the grading is unclear. IMO AVOID, OR TEACH YOURSELF.
Joyati is good for motivation and discussion, but it doesn't teach math. You must purchase an expensive online program and learn independently. You can complete the course early by finishing all topics and passing the final. It's an easy class if you're self-directed, but expect limited help as she mainly focuses on theoretical explanations
Joyati is very fun to be around if you understand the math you are doing. If you don't understand ask for help, but be ready for her to make you feel stupid in front of the whole class. This class is totally online (alexs) but you still need to be in class so she can watch you. Save yourself... do NOT take this class!!!
She's funny, and has a good personality, but she did NOT teach. I mostly taught myself. Most of it is just homework on Aleks. There's 3 big exams and they are pretty content heavy. She seem to try to incorporate a life lesson every time someone had a problem even if it was simple. Fun person, not a good teach
She doesn't teach AT ALL only thing we do in that class is Aleks and its horrible. she wants us to come to class even though everything is online and during class she wonders around annoying students asking them to ask her questions. Me personally especially for a math class prefer textbook or paper assignments not an online program.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She ain't teach nothing, but always says "The first step to success is to attend class," no. I enjoyed her stories in the beginning, but it got annoying as the semester progressed. Very easy to progress because all you do is Aleks, but Aleks isn't a great teacher as well.
Good person, bad teacher. Nice storytelling. All work on ALEKs and ALEKs is not a great teacher unless you really lock in and read. Easy to pass if you just finish ALEKs. States that attendance is mandatory and required but not really. Yes, points will be docked but ALEKs is accessible on its own by your laptop. No lectures, you're on your own.
She uses an online program called ALEKS, which costs $100. You're completely on your own with this program as she doesn't teach. She requires you to spend 3 hours a week doing it outside of class. She's rude to students and just talks about random, unnecessary things. Attendance is mandatory but all you do is sit there and do the online program.
