The class was entirely internet based so therefore you only had to show up once a week to turn in homework and take a quiz. I went once a week and got an A. The class was very boring, though.

This teacher is the best Math teacher anyone could ever have.At first she seems a bit weird but she is just really funny and very helpful.She goes out of her way to individually help you.One time she schedule a study time outside of her class time for the whole class so she could teach how to do better.She is an easy grader and doesn't demand much. I would love to take her again if I had the oppurtunity. You should definitely take her!!!

Super Teacher!

Joyce Algren is a great teacher. She is the only math teacher I've had that made math understandable. Her method of presenting the material made all the difference in understanding the subject. I highly recommend her.

In response to the person who said that it seems like only people leave comments who like her; well, it's because most people do. She is really challenging and her class may not be the easiest, but her heart is amazing, she is a gift to the school and even though I had a difficult time sometimes, she was always willing to help and explain.

Joyce is a great professor! I took her for 301 A,B and C, and I'm very sad she is not teaching 308! She truely cares about her students and their success. Professor Ahlgren Wonderful teacher! Math 301,A,B, C, became a high priority for me as a Liberal Studies Major. She made it interesting and Helped me every time I went into her office. Concepts are difficult, but she will cover it again if you ask her. Great Class Right to bad she is not teaching 308 Word Problems.

The IMP program is really helpful. It's in the summer and you take math 80 & 90 for 8 weeks. You don't have to buy a textbook, however you have to be focused & determined. In the end you'll save money & time cause you won't have to take math 80& 90 throughout the year.

Mrs.ALgren is the best math teacher for any course. SHe is down to Earth and all Homework is online. She givesyou study guides before each test . I highly reccommend hr if you want to take an easy math course.

Professor Ahlgren was one of the best teachers i had at cal state. Very patient, really funny and kind hearted. I was a student who gave her a HARD time in class. I wasnt the best, but she put that all aside and helped me when i asked for it. do the HW and ask questions if ur confused and u will pass. Also she loves starbucks,(carmel fraps) :)

Very good instructor and easy course. Problem is, even though you have an A in class, basic skills AND Final MUST be passed or else will fail regardless of the amount of work put into class. Found notes useless when looked back upon, so make sure you take better notes than she provides!

Professor Ahlgren is a legend! If you don't take her then you are doing yourself a disservice. You will be confident in Math after you take her class. Ask questions, participate and you will learn. This is a safe zone for people who are not "mathy"! She encourages you to use those weird strategies that other teachers have put you down for using!

Prof. Ahlgren changed my life! I had a fear of Math, but she explains things so well that you get it! If you don't, she always makes herself available to help you out. I took two Math classes with her. She has helped many students, and she will help you. She has a great sense of humor and makes for a fun class.

BEST math teacher ever!! she is definitely worth taking her class. She is very helpful and makes you understand the material just pay attention and do hw. I always disliked math till i had her class I'm actually looking forward for Math 110 with her.

You just need to show up to class and do all of your homework assignments (there is never more then 8 problem per class) the homework problems are the exams. She has a great sense of humor and she does all that she can to help you, you just have to show her that you are trying. You need the book for the homework, but that's it.

I love Joyce! I took her my freshmen year, for summer program, or whatever. I was always math silly until I sat down for 7 hours a day with her 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Yes she is a though grader, but trust me it's for your own good! I would do horrible in my hw, but when I sat down to study for my test I knew what I needed to study. My test made up my homework. She is very helpful if you need help one in one, and I think that is a plus! She loves starbucks haha... I highly recommend her you wont regret it!

Prof. Joyce was amazing I took her for 301 a,b and c. She truly wants her students to succeed and will help you. She is a tough grader,but only because we are going to be Future teachers she wants to make sure we teach our students the correct way. For 301 a it was 2 test. For 301b 2 test and for 301 c we had 3 test plus hw. Take her!

By far the best math professor I have ever taken. Definately recommend this class. She gives homework, a midterm & a final. All are equally important to do, so make sure to take your time on the homework. The tests come from the homework and notes. She grades tough on homework but it's because she wants her students to be the best possible teacher

Best Math 301 professor. Her classes are the first to fill up but she will allow more students because she knows she is a desirable professor. She is funny and cares about student opinions. Take her class, do the work, and learn some math fundamentals!

She is good at explaining the material and always makes sure you understand it. She gives homework after each section and is picky when it comes to grading, but she tells you exactly how she wants things beforehand. She's also very understanding.

I was scared going into this class because of what other people told me about the Math 301 series. Luckily, I was able to have Professor Ahlgren. She is the best, and I made sure to get her for the other Math classes. She makes everything seem so easy and if we don't understand she will help you to understand. Professor Ahlgren is wonderful. I've had her for all the math series courses. For those who say she is picky or a tough grader, not true. All she is trying to do is make sure we understand by EXPLAINING (writing rather than just figuring it out with #'s) Students who say that are just too lazy to write an explanation out.

I wish I had her for all the math series. She is an amazing person and teacher. She is always actively looking at her entire classroom to see if there are any confused faces. She grades your homework and gives feedback on every single problem! This helps because then you know what she expects on the tests.

I cannot say enough good things about professor ahlgren. i had her for 301A and B and was devastated when she wasn't teaching C. i have never understood math, but she is so patient with you and will truly go out of her way until you understand something. she also cares about you personally and not just as a student. so kind and caring, TAKE HER!!!!

Ive taken prof Joyce for both Math 301A/B and tbh if she wouldve taught math 301C I wouldve definitely taken her! Just do your work the way she teaches you and you should be good! She literally makes things way easier to understand!!

It wasn't until the end of each quarter that I learned to appreciate Mrs. Ahlgren. Yes she assigns a lot of homework, yes she's a picky, yes she's tough, but she is an amazing professor. I took her in the winter and spring of this year and although online was challenging, we made it. Take her if you're willing to learn!

Prof. Ahlgren is a kind, funny woman. She teaches the MATH3011 lab class which prepares you to pass the requisite skills course. She is excellent at explaining things and helping people understand. She helps with homework, exam, and any other questions you have. Math 3011L is a GREAT RESOURCE for passing Math 3011, and Ahlgren is a great teacher

I'm not usually one to write reviews on my professors ever but here's my honest review about professor Ahlgren. I love her way of teaching. She is very accessable outside of class!!!! She is very helpful during office hours, for rst questions and math homework. However, I will say that SHE IS A TOUGH GRADER for hw. Do as she teaches!!

Wow! This lab class was incredibly helpful and easy to pass. She really strived to help us grasp concepts we were confused about. She is an incredible, sweet, kind teacher and I am heartbroken she is retiring

You really need to attend class to really understand what is being taught, but if you don't she has office hours that are super helpful as well! She is a tough grader on homework, but gives great feedback

Professor Ahlgren is great! She is funny and cares about her students- she makes math make sense. The only criticism is that she grades WAY too harshly on assignments/tests. Sometimes she doesn't explicitly explain what she's expecting from certain assignments or math problems, and then marks us down for not doing it how she wanted.

I just finished taking this class over summer and I really enjoyed the professor. I will say she is a tough grader but she really gets you prepared for math 3013 and really cares about you being a good teacher. She loves to talk but she always does office hours and will be there for you if you need help. Recommend this professor. Hard class tho.

I took professor Ahlgren during summer '23 and she is AMAZING. Disregard the negative rates because she is totally the opposite of what is said. She is caring, accessible, a tough critic (c'mon we are future teachers and she has high expectations of us), and passionate about teaching. She genuinely cares that you understand the material, take her!!

Professor Ahlgren is amazing. She's got very high standards and expects your best work, but she also guides you to getting there. The class is tough but she really strives to strengthen your understanding in Math topics for your future students.
