She is a total sweet heart! She appeals to her students with a motherly attitude. No words can describe the depth of her compassion for her students. I hope she continues to teach because a charismatic and intelligent person like her is hard to come by.

One of my favorite teachers. If you dont like public speaking she is the teacher to take. She talks about ANYTHING. So it makes you feel comfortable when your doing your speech. After taking her, you wont have any problem speaking in front of her. Very awesome teacher. Easy grade also.

If you apply yourself and show up you'll learn a lot about speaking skills and others. If you justread the book you'll do very well on exams. I would have liked more critique on speeches.

The best teacher I have had to date. All you have to do is 4 speeches - News Story, Informational, Persuasive, and Personal Experience - She has a great personality, is exciting, and very funny. She makes you feel comfortable and confident. One of the most positive, caring, and sweetest teachers I've ever had. Heart of Gold.

Interpersonal Speech was awsesome. All classes were discussion, and there are only 3 tests, which were easy - 10 vocab from each chapter, and about 5 questions that were very subjective. As long as you listened, participated in class, and studied the vocab in the chapter review section - you are good to go. No homework. Has a heart of gold.

I loved this teacher! So far I have to say she was the best teacher I have had at BCC. Even if you are not comfortable with speaking to an audience she will make you right at home. Very worth the class!

Took a hybrid class with her. Half online 1 1/2 hours in class. Without a doubt a must take teacher. I was nervous to present speeches but she makes you feel so comfortable that you cannot fail. Four presentations in class. I wish she taught more classes because I would take them.

Honestly,Joyce the most genuine teacher I've ever had. Communications 101 is just about that, connecting, communicating. By the end of the class, you'll miss everyone! Took COM101 as an honors class, two extra assignments that do require more work,but it's all worth it. You get to go to the film studio! Highly recommend this class!

Easy class! Makes topics for student speeches flexible. She is nonjudgmental after you make your speech. Just show up and do your speeches basically, on the days they're due. She's very nice and wants you to succeed.

Prof Fernandes is wonderful! If you need Public Speaking take it with her. Handful of speeches but they're easy and she grades very fairly. Prepare to spend more time casually chatting than presenting. Very caring and thoughtful of her students.

I took the honors section for this course, and she is one of my absolute favorite professors. I can't express how great the atmosphere in this class was, and how close everyone became. I hated public speaking, but I feel more comfortable with it now. She is hilarious and the nicest professor I've ever had. You're missing out if you don't take her!

Professor Fernandes is the BEST! 4-5 speeches and she made is less nerve racking than I thought it ever would be to present a public speech. My class was well rounded and everyone enjoyed each other so it helped. Missing a class felt like I missed out on a fun loving social event. Each time I did a speech she would make me feel so great. Her loose informal approach makes for an easier and better class overall. It's all about practice, learning from others and yourself. We hardly touched the free online book and only had five speeches. Easily the best public speaking professor and one of the better ones in general.

Joyce Fernandes was an absolute joy to take a class with! I had her for Com 160 not comm 101 but there was no option for com160. She's very outgoing, fun, caring, and laid back. There's only a hand full of assignments during the semester and as long as you do the assignments and show up for class you are guaranteed an A. Super easy 3 credit course.
