Best Math Prof. at SCC
No Comments
Keep up with HW and her schedule. She's nice and fair. Though her tests can be hard at times, depending on which calc. She may even ask a few short answer questions on the tests. Fall behind and you'll fail. NO pressure :|
the best math teacher there is
Expectations are excessive
Has a strict policy. Do the homework and listen to her lectures and you'll do fine. Also, i cant urge enough to study the word problems, they can really hurt or save you.
Her tests were impossible to pass.
She is a good teacher. hse knows alot about math. BUT She is Extremely Hard. and if you in a boarder line like 89.3 she is not going to give you an A. Thats How I got a B in 185. Shoot for Dr.Smith. or Sacamoto.. good luck.
took for intersession. performs examples based on the hardest and/or the most obscure problems in the text. I liked that a lot. Needed a 50% on the final to get an A lol.
Dr. Wagner is one of the best math teachers that ive ever had!!! She explains things well and is very helpful, just ask! she will help to get your grade up (i had a low c in 150, ended up with a b in the class)
You have to put a lot of time and effort into this class. I was was one of two people in class that got an A. Just depends on how bad you want it.
you have to study like crasy,. she is helpful.. but not a good teacher for 185. i doubt that too many people end up with a B. most people get CS and Ds. so I think u 100 percent safe with DR.Smith. or Dr.Socomoto. good luck
she teaches really good. but she never give you one point if you are in a boarder line situation. I would not take her. take dr.Smith or Dr.Sakomoto. She is not a fair teacher .
Yes, she is hard but I actually find myself liking math because she makes it easier. She explains things very well. Take advantage of her office hours, it helps a lot.
really good teacher. she wants you to understand it, and is willing to help alot.
had to drop her class...ive never gotten below an A in math its my best subject but with her was failing. you have a quiz after every hw assignment and tests are unreasonable and she doesnt tell you what to study.if you go into the test knowing the information you still will probably fail. she does not explain information well-very unclear
This class is killing me. I always get As in math and I currently have a C. She is a very nice person and a great professor for lower level, but be very prepared to work your butt off in her class, and still maybe not get the grade you really want to get. Good luck to anyway in her class, p.s. seeing her during her office hours helps for sure.
took the course in the summer. She is a bit tough as others say. But when you get past her class you are MUCH more knowledgable about the subject which helps for upper level classes. Very sweet lady and she enjoys to teach. See her in MASH tutoring center and she will help you A LOT!
IMO, best math professor at SCC. I've had a few others. Very knowledgable. Grades fairly. Do the homework and you should be fine.
Very smart, very clear. If the class seems hard, it's not because of her. Calculus is hard. period. She explains everything very well. I wish she taught all my math classes.
Math must be tough to teach and she does a great job. The only thing I didn't like were the quizzes every period. Sometimes I do not have time to study until the weekend. Anyway, she is the best I've had in AGES and you should take her!
Very clear on objectives and expectations for class. Excellent instructor. Keep up with HW, attendance, and use the tutoring center if needed. It is a challenging class but it is possible to do well.
a great teacher. explains everything clearly. Gives you the hardest examples in class, so tests and quizzes are very easy. Class is a little boring, but all math classes are boring to me. I wish i could have her for all my math clases.
Great teacher, I took her for inter-session and she managed to effectively teach us a semester long math class in 4 weeks. I recommend her to anyone, she approaches the class based on understanding, its different from other teachers but very good.
She is a very good teacher and explains things well. I would recommend taking her for any class you can.
Awesome! Daily quizzes, easy points to boost grade up. Very helpful if you need clarity.
This teacher is good, but you're expected to do your end of the work. Whenever everyone in class is struggling and your not the only one, she'll give you a break. Great teacher, extremely smart.
Challenging and goes very quickly but is fair. So smart! Gives lots of opportunites for earning extra points through homework and short quizzes.
Dr. Wagner is a very nice woman. She doesn't give much credit on the homework which was the only part I didn't like. You will have a quiz every class (only 4-5 questions), 4 exams, and the final. There is a good amount of extra credit if you do all the modules in Plato that is listed on the back of a test you take at the beginning of class.
GREAT
I thought that she was a really good teacher. She gave quizzes every class. It was her way of taking attendance. I did all of the homework and did well on the tests, but did horrible on the final and still got an A. The final was extremely hard.
totally helpful! highly recommend for everyone! work hard and you'll get A
Best math professor I have ever had! She made everything so clear and I am HORRIBLE at math! There is a lot of homework, but it's worth doing. She gives daily quizzes that make the tests a breeze! She is so kind and really wants you to succeed. I took her 4 week summer course and got a 97%! Take her, you will not regret it!
She was a nice teacher and really cared about her students. Homework after every class, but if you do it you can get an A or B easily on the weekly quiz. A teacher worth having.
Loved this class despite hating math. She made it very simple to understand, hence I recieved an A. If you need math credits and you are not the best math student take one of her classes. She makes it easy to succeed.
I was worried coming into buisness calc, but she was really helpful. She is very good at explaining the concepts. There is a ton of work, homework everynight, quiz everyday, but all the hard work pays off on test day.
Pretty much exactly how I expected this class to be. Lots of notes and quizzes and tough material. She's good at explaining it though. 2 positive things I found were you get out 30min-1hr early almost every day (and even earlier on review and test days) and her tests are pretty short. I dont want to say they're easy, but normally no more than 25 q
highly recommend for those who keen on doing homework.
NEVER cancelled class which was a huge bummer. Never gave a break with a 2 hour class and always said she would let us out early (the only times I got out early was for a test) But a good teacher overall.
Math is never an easy subject but Wagner made it SO easy and simple to understand. She is very helpful. It's essential to do your homework. It will help you do well on the quiz the next day. Recommend her!
Wagner is one of my favorite teachers here at SCC I never really liked math at all but she made it sooooo easy!! She is very clear when explaining.. Syllabus is just one page and she is always there to help you. She never misses a class and she is always on time(:!. Lets us out early most of the time overall she's an amazing smart teacher !!(:
Not the greatest math teacher I have had at SCC. She won't let you ask a lot of questions in class. Homework is due everyday. Tests are way more hard then what she says the questions are. Late to her office hours also. There are a lot better math teachers. She is just okay.
She REALLY knows math. 1, She is articulate, and explains things well. 2, always open to questions. 3, ORGANIZED. 4, supportive, and cares about students success. She increased my understanding of math. I work slowly, but she is SO patient. There is a lot of homework, plus quizzes every class. But she gives students everything needed to succeed. =)
Best math teacher!Wagner is very smart! she reviews homework before! she actually teaches you why you do things! she knows her math and she explains the subject well the only down fall is that she will give a lot of homework and its do every class meeting and a quiz everyday but it's only 5 PTs so it will not hurt you! Take her she's awesome!!
Awesome teacher! explains concepts very well and actually teaches the material. She requires a fair amount of homework but if you take the time and do it, you will get a good grade. Super nice lady and very helpful. She makes math easier.
I hate math and i actually enjoyed this class. She is very nice and will help you with anything you don't understand. There are daily quizzes worth 5 points which forces you do you HW but they are not hard at all if you actually do the HW. We had 3 Projects, no oral, and they were the easiest points. She goes over everything that is on test
She is a really smart professor…actually knows what she's talking about. Always willing to help you and stay late. I mean it is math so the material is going to be difficult but she is super nice and will make sure you get it. Only con I would say is the homework assignments she assign take 2+ hours, but you will benefit from taking her
I have never had so much homework in my life. Class is extremely difficult, but it is very clear how much time you need to put in in order to receive the grade you want. Everything is challenging, but reasonable. Great professor.
Took N48 with her and oh my goodness I'm so grateful for her!! I took it with a different teacher last semester and failed and re took it with her and I got an A in the class! She explains it so well, if you are still a bit confused you can go up to her after class or whenever and she will help you! Makes it fun and interested to learn!
Professor Wagner is one of those teachers who likes what she's doing and because of that she really wants her students to succeed, but she doesn't make it "easy." She makes herself available if you need help and she is really understanding. If she sees that you're putting in the work, you'll get the grade you deserve.
The most homework I have ever had, although I did take the summer session (4 week) version. Regardless, she knows the material (I took her for stats) and teaches the material clearly. Grading is fair if not easy. Very willing to help. Prepared. Always quick on the grading. Projects are easy. Quiz everyday. Recommend her, if you are willing to work.
Pros: More than willing to help her students who are struggling. Fair grader. Cons: 14-16 questions on less than 90 minute exams. Expect to use all of the time you're given and manage your time wisely! Personal: I had a stressful experience. If I had more time during the exams, I probably would have been able to score higher. Finally done w/Math
You need to complete your homework to get credits from it. She is the most amazing teacher i've ever know. she doesnt even need time to come up with an answer to my question.
This semester is frustrating. Teacher doesn't teach on core competencies of the sections. Instead, each quiz and test has some curve ball she expects she you to catch that wasn't presented in lecture or on the homework. That's on top of VERY limited time. After every quiz or test she asked the class who caught the curve ball, 1-2 would have.
Homework every night. Lectures pretty quickly through materials but will stop and answer questions very thoroughly. Quizzes every day of lecture on the homework from the night before. Tests are okay if you studied. Look over notes.
She will take her time to go over tests. She goes over your grades as well. She encourages people so well. She is honest too though about people who should think about dropping, in such a nice way too. She is a really great professor. I would love to have her again. She teaches very detailed. She goes over examples. She stops for questions and answers every single one very thoroughly. She is awesome!
She is one of the most inspiring lecturers I have ever taken! Very clear lectures, understandable explanations!
This teacher is extremely smart and that's the problem. She's so smart that she doesn't realize that the problems she's asking are too difficult for people learning the material for the first time. It's easy for her because she's intelligent and has been doing this so long but doesn't realize it's extremely difficult for students.
Dr. Wagner is truly brilliant and yet remains incredibly approachable. Wagner's class will not be easy, but upper level math isn't easy. If you put in the time and effort that the class requires, you should be fine. Participating in lecture and attending office hours are a plus. She is an amazing educator who is truly there to help you succeed.
Terrible teacher avoid at all cost
Tests are several levels more difficult than the homework or lecture. She expects you to "figure it out" even though the material wasn't covered in lecture or homework. If you take her, be sure to do the hardest problems from each section because thats what the tests are based on
A lot of Curveballs on tests. Good and nice professor. The problem is it's a lot faster than most other math classes I've had at other colleges. Also, a lot of homework to do. Due twice a week. I highly recommend taking math somewhere else, if you only care about passing. If you truly love math and want to understand it go ahead and take Wagner.
This teacher is a gem. I'm not the best at math. But she explains so well. Go to her office hours for help on the homework. It is worth it. I lost my father in September of 2017. So I missed three classes. She was amazing in helping me catch up on what I missed. And I was able to take the exam we had and pass it. She is a great teacher. Take her.
Quizzes on homework almost everyday in class, and homework almost every night. The amount of work due is nowhere near unreasonable, and overall I thoroughly enjoyed the class much more than I would've expected from a math course. Really good teacher, explains things very thoroughly.
This woman is extremely condescending and speaks to the students as if they are in elementary school. When lecturing, she uses numerous outlandish examples that leave you even more confused than in the first place. Moves very fast through problems, and when you ask for further explanation she says she does not have time, and to enroll in tutoring
UC Computer Science student here. I took her for precal and calc 2. IMO Wagner is good for lower level courses (precalc and lower) because although she gives a lot of HW, the problems are shorter and really hammer in the concepts needed for calculus and higher. Anything Calc and higher do NOT take her. TOO MUCH HW + quizzes that are too tricky.
Excellent at explaining problems and very understanding
She explained things clearly and was very open about office hours and offering help. There are quizzes every day, but it helps with learning the concepts better. She lets you know what will be on every test which helps with preparing. Very understanding but deducts points from your quiz if you leave class early with no explanation.
very condescending, definitely has favorites and heavy workload.
I took her stats class and it was not for me. Her style of teaching is quick, confusing, and if you dont understand it she rarely stops to help explain, you have to go to office hours for help. Definitely wouldnt recommend her, I had to retake stats because she gave me a 69.5% & I did much better with my other Professor from the next semester
Im drowning in homework and my tears. Make friends in this class so they can help you out with things you dont know
Took her over intersession and got to say shes amazing & brilliant. Not your typical boring lecturer, she master her field like no one else does
This woman gave you a ton of homework, but it only made up a small percentage of your grade. Exams are the key, but you'll never pass them
So fast lecture, so heavy homework (literally 10-15 papers of questions for every Tuesday and Thursday in my case.) She is no tough grader and test is no that hard as long as you get familiar to contents and homework problems, but she seems to have an assumption that we all are as smart as when she was in UCLA, so anyway going so fast lol.
Overall I have a positive opinion of her. She is one of the most helpful professors if you take her office hours, I noticed that people don't do as well if they don't take advantage of MASH, SI Groups, and Office Hours. Its not so bad, what you learn sticks with you. She's available to help you. Just don't go home after every class, go to her.
I have never had a more kind and understanding professor. Especially for a math course. She is incredibly compassionate and understands the difficulty of the material. The only reason you won't get an A in the class is because you aren't keeping up with the homework. You HAVE to do the homework every time throughout the whole semester.
she gave a ton of hw due every class period as well as a QUIZ every class period in my case. she expected us to study 4 hours a day so she assigned us a lot of hw when half of the problems were not even put on the test. Literally got multiple hw problems that had a part a-j on them. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
Wanna learn Math at a higher analytic level? Professor is an angel. She will speak to you at her office hours and go over with you any questions you may. She does have many problems and quizzes but the result of her class is an array of knowledge beneficial at a 4year university. Do the work and you will get the grade.
I mostly took the class because of this site but I wish I would have taken someone else. She is a nice teacher but I think expects a lot from each student. You really have to work for it. A tip would be to go to the SI Session they help so much! She does not allow cheat sheets & there is a quiz each class as well as alot of hw.
#9786 Beginning of every lecture she takes 3questions to answer in a 30question hw(homework),Then she gives a quiz right after, about the hw,The problem is that I have questions so I decide to go to office hours which is after lecture to ask about that hw,so I failed most quizzes,A friend took calc before says she makes everything hard for no reason
Good teacher, I enjoyed her altough it is math so the stuff can be a bit confusing. If you spend time working with her you should be able to get a solid B to A.
You can tell Professor Wagner knows the subject well however she is not understanding when students struggle with a topic. She expects students to be experts. Doesn't give formulas and lectures based only on examples without explaining theorems. Quiz every day. If you are naturally good at math you'll be fine if not I would take another professor.
Worst class I've ever taken. Quizzes every class period and they are super confusing. Doesn't fully teach lesson. Acts like we should already know what we are doing.
Prof Wagner will not give easy As, so if that's what you're looking for, don't sign up for a class with her. With that being said, she is super knowledgeable and taking 180/180H with her will set you up for success in 185. There are frequent concept checks (pop quizzes) and a couple of solo/group presentations in 180H.
Math has never been my subject and I was nervous to sign up for this class at first. However, Professor Wagner has been the best professor, especially during the pandemic. Her class was not an easy A- meaning if you do not do the homework thoroughly to understand the material, it will be hard. But overall, the best class I have ever taken!
You will not pass by just showing up to class. I'm a veteran so I hadn't been through a math class in years. If I was able to pass any student should be able to pass. I took this class remote live, and you could tell she was slightly out of her element. She still did a good job teaching and explaining what she expected. Also take advantage of SI.
Two tests EVERYDAY, one on previous math and one on math you just learned that day, makes all math harder so they are "more fun," teaches only by examples. She will help you if asked, but assumes you know most of the concepts. If you're fine with taking tests everyday, take her, but there is no need to constantly risk points, just take someone else
Math is my favorite subject, but I have never failed so much as I did in her class. She lectures us and says "if you want a better grade, be smarter", so if you're not already VERY smart, expect to barely make it. I had A's on all my math classes and I'm generally really good at math, but she makes it impossible to actually learn, BEWARE DONT TAKE
I took Calc 1 during intersession, and she did an amazing job preparing me for Math 185 given the short time span. But if you're not looking forward to dedicate hours to doing homework, you'll definitely fall behind in her class fast! There were 2 quizzes everyday, but she's fair on the question she presents given your exposure to the material.
I took Wagner for Calc II (Math 185) during SP2021. Each class you had a quiz, but she was a very nice grader. There is homework due daily. She is both passionate about Math and her students doing well, so there is a lot of work. She gives partial credit (if you show work), has E.C. opportunities, and curved the final. 100% would take again.
Professor Wagner helped and encouraged me to pass this class when I was trailing behind. However, I had to show her that I was willing to put in the work by always attending class, doing all the homework, and preparing for quizzes and tests. She's a fair grader and gives partial credit for work. Thank you, Professor Wagner, for the encouragement.
You do have a quiz every class however that ends up helping you grade in the end. But the time you take the final it wont affect your grade a lot. She goes over every quiz and homework and will help any questions you have. You definitely have to pay attention but she teaches super well. Ive never been good at math but passed her class with A.
There is a quiz every class. When I heard this I wanted to drop the class however I'm happy I didn't. She made me love stats, which is the last thing I expected. Having a small quiz every class kept me engaged in the material and is better then having a big test. She offers extra credit and truly wants all her students to pass, she is beyond caring
Wagner is a super great teacher. She offered office hours before and after class and a whole lot of extra credit. This is not an easy class though. There is homework and a quiz everyday. It is not a class you will breeze through. I am NOT a math person at all and I ended with over a 100% in her class. You must stay on top of it. Good class overall.
Statistics is a hard class but Professor Wagner is awesome. She is very caring and will offer you her time and extra credit to make sure you succeed. Make sure you really utilize her office hours. I am not a math person but she make it easier to understand and was very accommodating. I wouldn't have wanted any other math professor.
please do not take this class. it is so useless, besides getting the requirement for whatever major you are in. quizzes every test period and a final worth 250 points, which is cumulative to the 27+ different lessons "learned" as if anyone in their right mind would be able to remember that. i hate this class. teacher is good in terms of "helping".
What are on the exams which are EVERY CLASS does not really reflect what is on the homework. just had a quiz in the class, and knew 99% of the homework, and was only able to really do a third of the quiz that i know is 100% right. how does that make any sense? do not take the class. final is worth 250 points, of 27+ lessons. no thanks.
Dr. Wagner is one of the most brilliant minds I've ever met. She's soft-spoken but knows her stuff. She does a lot of quiz drops, curves quizzes, and EC hw so everyone gets a good grade bump. I spent a lot of time with her in office hours and she always stayed to help and made sure I was learning, not just memorizing processes. I LOVE DR. WAGNER!
Hi yall. hear me out. dont take this class. math is my favorite subject and i have never gotten a B in there. i had to drop out of her class just after the first few weeks because i think it was moving too fast for me. she teaches very fast and doesn't give enough time for quizzes. she gives extra credit, though, and she really is a kind person.
So hard,, so so difficult. There was hours worth of homework for every class. At one point I just couldn't do it anymore.
She is a great teacher! If you miss class or doze off, you may struggle, but that goes for all classes. She explains things very thoroughly and has many problems on the hw to help you. Outside of class, she has MANY office hours and replies very quickly to canvas messages. She is generous with points on hw and tests as long as work is shown.
Hard class. Do NOT take it if you want the free A. There is a quiz every lecture. She has a unique way of teaching. Overall, great professor.
Quiz every class and you need to stay on top of it. Good teacher and knows her stuff, but quizzes are way too hard and too many points. Hands down the hardest class I've ever taken. Got up to almost 80 hours in the math center studying for her class only to get a C on every quiz. If you are a math genius you will love her, otherwise don't bother.
Had her last semester and forgot to write a review. Professor Wagner has a very fast teaching style, which may not be for some people, but was ideal for me to keep me on schedule. She constantly derived equations to explain WHY they work certain ways, which I always found super helpful. Definitely sets a strong foundation for other math courses.
One of the best math professors at SCC. I'll admit her teaching style is not for everyone, but it was perfect for me. Lectures are equally theory and practice. Examples are detailed. She does give a quiz every day, but I actually came to prefer that style as I had more control over my grade. She is also pretty generous with extra credit.
