Could rarely if ever be understood. Class never made sense before he got his hands on it, and was not improved. A voice that changes frequency like a radio should not be lecturing, and reading off a powerpoint word for misunderstood word doesn't help. How anyone could pass this course is beyond me, but about a third of the class did. Avoid.

For Physics 259, switch into Wilson's class. In my opinion, Biel is the worst teacher/professor I've ever had. He often uses powerpoints which may or may not have good content, but powerpoints just aren't good teaching tools in classes. They put me to sleep. On the occasions he isnt using powerpoints, he's only below average though.

Couldn't understand the basic ideas conveyed by Biel due to his frantic behavior. Learning more in a single tutorial showed that Biel does not explain concepts thoroughly in class. Once in a blue moon, Biel uses the board instead of his primitive powerpoints. Would be recommend going to give Biel hope. Not showing up to lecture would break Biel.

I couldn't go to any other lectures since my labs and other lectures conflicted with the schedules so I was forced to attend Biel's lecture. I couldn't understand a thing he was teaching and he usually taught stuff that wasn't needed for the exams. I basically learnt the course through the textbook and other profs slides

Reads off of his notes that are posted online and he never gets through them in time for assignments. Just read the notes and skim the book

Okay, so a lot of the reviews on here are kind of nice because people pity him because he basically had an emotional breakdown in the middle of lecture. The reality is though that this prof is straight up terrible. Reads everything off of his powerpoints, which are themselves taken almost word for word from the textbook.

Professor cant teach, 1010 would not recommend. Hard to understand and explains things in unnecessary detail. Just reads straight off powerpoint, and his power points are pictures of the textbook. Better off learning on your own.

He seems like he is a pretty nice guy, but not a good prof. He literally reads off of the powerpoint word for word, and every number. I could not focus in class because it was so boring. I stopped going and went to a different lecture, or just read the powerpoint for myself.

Seems nice enough, but he's really not very good at explaining things. The power points are awful and hard to understand, doesn't help he reads word for word off of them.

Got Jozef Biel for the last half of my first university physics course. I did really well on the midterm because during the first half of the semester when I had David Feder who was amazing! However, once Biel started teaching, my marks in the course noticeably went down along with my understanding of the course material.

His lectures were him reading directly off the slides which were textbook pages. He also has an accent which makes it really hard to understand him so your best bet is to skip and study on your own.

Biel is a great guy, but his teacher has a lot of problems. No microphone use with a voice that certainly needs one, monotone word for word reading off the slides, inability to use the technology that's supposed to assist with the teaching... pretty poor.

I had to teach the entire course to myself. Did not get any of the material explained when going to his lectures. Might as well read his slides by yourself.

Not kidding, his slides are screenshots of the textbook. He reads integrals and math verbatim during lecture.

Pretty nice guy, knows what he is talking about. The good: explains theory well, well structure and organized. The bad: sometimes spends entire classes deriving formulas, just runs through slides (pretty boring). Seems to be disinterested and thinks everything is easy because he literally will vocalize "this is simple" after everything he teaches.

I read rate my prof prior to coming to his lecture so I knew what to expect. Everyone is 100% right about him, he reads STRAIGHT OFF THE "SLIDES"(which are really just screenshots of textbook). Today in lecture he called out everyone on here n said the ratings are not true... He tries to defend his "great" teaching all the time. Just fix it.

He's a good guy and knows what he is taking about but he puts way too much material on midterms and finals and not enough time to study. really monotone and reads directly off the slides.

The course itself isn't bad. But he did not help. Reads straight from slides. Didn't finish all the lectures in class so you had to learn the last few chapters on your own + material before the midterm. Final was 50% of overall grade & poorly constructed. Had LOTS of typos and asked questions that were not emphasized or explained well in class.

You literally need binoculars to see his slides in class. The font is extremely small and he gets really sensitive when someone complains about this issue. He always reads off slides and just basically mumbles words without clarifying. If you want to fail then this is your first choice.

Many students didn't like him and left in the first couple weeks. I stayed with him until the end and actually found he made an effort and improved as the semester went on. I didn't have to do additional reading from the text book and still found the course an easy A. Good proffesor.
