Dr. Anderson is a brilliant instructor who can take a highly complex subject - higher mathematics, such as Diff Eq, etc. - and make it accessible and interesting, even for those not majoring in math. One of the finest instructors I have ever had!
Just be awake for his class cause he does use his allotted time to teach, and rarely gets out early. Hes a very helpful person and very smart teacher.
I've been saved!Mathematically speaking. The first good math teacher I've had.Clear, patient and easy to understand.Very responsive to questions and problems.Gives thorough reviews and opportunities to raise grades w/quizzes & Homework.Struggling with math?Do yourself a favor and choose this prof.!
Dr. Anderson is awesome. I'm sorry I won't be able to take him again(he's not teaching Cal III this summer).
This man should not be the head of the Dept. He has no idea how to work with students and likes to make them feel like sh*t
Thank you for the advice on hyper cubes.
HE IS RUDE AND SHOULD NOT BE A DEPTARTMENT HEAD... HE LIKES TO MAKE SURE THE STUDENT FEELS LIKE CRAP AND DOESNT REALIZE THAT WE PAY TO GO TO SCHOOL...
Hes an awesome teacher. I like the whole homework on the internet easier than dealing with alot of papers!
Great Teacher!!! He is easy as long as you do your home work, online and in the book. He explanes everything with great detail. I think any one that is going to have to take math 0305 should take his class.
Best math professor I've had so far! Friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. He has excellent notes online and is a very throrough instructor. Do some work outside of class and you should be fine. I think most people just get intimidated by him because he is a mathematical genious. I highly recommend for engineer/math majors.
J.P. Anderson notes are AWESOME!
This professor is super smart. I highly enjoyed his class
ANDERSON IS NOT A PERSON WHO LIKES TO BE WRONG. HE IS RUDE TO STUDENTS. HE IS VERY CONDESCENDING. AND NEEDS AN ATTITUDE CHECK.
Pay no attention to the reviewer who keeps commenting in all caps. Someone is obviously bitter about making a bad grade that they deserved. He is a smart, kind, and very helpful prof. If you love math you will like this guy.
WOHOOOO! Made a B!
Wonderful teacher! He is very helpful. If there was a question I didn't know he was never rude about answering it, even if I went to talk to him 5 mins before the test. At the end of the semester I was fully prepared for Calculus, and I remembered and understood everything he taught in the class.
My math skills are horrific, and I managed to pull off a B+ in Dr. Anderson's class. He's the best math teacher I've ever had. He's organized, clear, and sarcastically humorous. =] He made the summer session go by reallly quickly. Show up, spend an hour for homework, and ATTEMPT to do a problem on the test, and he'll give you some credit.
The best, the most awesome, teacher EVER.
San Jac South has got some excellent math teachers. Anderson and Stockton are the best teachers in all of the San Jac schools.
This is the best math teacher I have ever taken by far. He is very clear when teaching the material, and the tests are similar to the review problems. I definately recommend this professor to anyone.
The BEST.
only word i can say. he's awesome!!
idk what happened but this semester was the worst in math for me because of him! everyone said he was great and he is nice but he wasnt prepared for class and even gave us a review from another teacher for our test and there was hardly anything on the test that was on the review. be careful choosing this one..
i wouldnt recommend him. maybe it was just me because im not that great at math. but i dont think his teaching style suited me very well. reviews are kind of pointless they arent even his reviews he uses another teachers. i will say he gives partial credit on tests. that saved me.
He is a good teacher but the reviews are from other teachers and really don't go with his tests. My worst problem was he didn't give us a review for the final- which I NEEDED a good grade for and I studied the wrong material. The final was only 18 questions so it wasn't over much.
He goes pretty fast and you must STUDY STUDY STUDY! dont miss a class or you will fall behind. Not unbearably hard but his class does require close attention and studying
very hard.. boring classes.. reviews are nothing like the test
His teaching style wasnt for me, hes really unorganized. He doesnt really tell you what hes doing, just starts doing problems randomly, so on review days and you dont understand a problem, you have no idea what section to go to. its really frustrating.Hes a nice guy, but id recommend getting a tutor like i did.i worked my butt for just a B
Extremely rude + Mr. right guy
Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and now that I know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified-- do not take his course
I took him back in 1998. He was VERY FIRST college instructor. That guy was amazing.
Amazing teacher. One of the best math teachers I've ever had. I highly recommend taking his class. He's very helpful to everyone and goes out of his way to make extra review sessions for tests. It's been one of my favorite classes.
Extremely helpfull, and answers all questions ask clearly and fully. Knows alot about the subject. He pushed our due dates back and had study sessions near the final. Best algebra teacher ever, we even had food days in class.
He was an amazing teacher. It was so easy because he explained things step by step. He even had study sessions after class. I got a 100 on my 3rd test!
He is a happy man ...that is nice ... if you are a white man do not worry you pass with A
easiest math class ever. good prof
Extremely Rude.
best prof i've ever had. def wants everyone to pass his class
Awesome math professor. Ask questions he'll help you understand then and there. Go to class and take plenty of notes, they help with my math lab and reviews. He has study sessions, I recommend going even if you think you're prepared. Tests are cake if you do all this. (all this from someone that struggled with math throughout high school)
He's really helpful. At first I thought it was gonna be hard, but he made everything so easy :) He's REALLY nice :)
I really enjoyed his class. He was an excellent teacher, thoroughly explained everything, and was ALWAYS willing to help.
He is a really great teacher. He always is willing to help you, and makes sure that you understand the information. I took the interdisciplinary class with him and Hutchinson, and JP makes taking that interdisciplinary class worth while. If math isn't your greatest he is definitly the best.
Such an AWESOME professor!! he really is willing to help you. he is welcomed to question and answering them. Need to do Mymathlab to fully understand things better. I would def. take him again.
AWESOME!!!
Great Professor!!! 2nd try with Math 1314, he helped prepare us for the exams, what will be on the exams is crystal clear. Lots of work if returning to math after many years like me. Homework, quizzes, tests are all part of the grade, so if you bomb the comprehensive final you can still actually make a B by doing the other work, knows how to teach
Great Professor!!! his class is super easy, I hated math before i took his class, and I really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend anybody to take his class, would take his class again in a heartbeat!
I will admit that Mr. Anderson has a passion for math that is unique. I took him for Cal 1 and am happy to say I made an A! His class requires work, and Adv. math courses are a little challenging. He cares about his students, and always feel free to ask a question. He is fast paced in his teachings, so pay attention. He is a good teacher!
Mr. Anderson is a great teacher! He is SUPER smart and is fast paced, but if you have a question he will slow down and walk you through it. Highly recommend him for any math class.
I had a really great semester with both JP and Matt. Made a B in the class. Notes were crystal clear with tons of examples for me to flip back and refer to. The fact that they make you do hw for the 11 pts on test is great incentive and practice. If it weren't for cramming all my hw into 1-2 nights, I wouldn't have done so well. Recommended!
Dr. Anderson is a very happy, helpful professor and he's probably the best math prof at san jac. Disregard bad comments, he was always more than happy to help and would even stop the class to make sure everyone understood the topic. He always posted notes online and gave out extra credit. Math is my worst subject and he made it easy to understand.
He's an amazing person, teacher and help. Loved taking his class. Always willing to take questions will joke around and make sure you remain interested in class.
Dr. Anderson is freaking amazing, he always took the time out to explain the what and why. He doesn't just give you a formula and then be done with it, he explains the different parts and makes sure you understand. I've taken Coll. Alg and failed both times and this time I passed with a B. Dr Anderson is a God-send for Math
Dr. Anderson is an interesting individual, but awesome none the less! He is a great teacher and really makes sure you understand what you're doing! Def, recommend taking him!!!
John Anderson is a fantastic Professor. I took him for Honors Precal. He was reliable when one required assistance and is one of the most passionate professors I have ever met. Although, I would expect those who are not strong in math will struggle to some extent, as his tests are rather challenging, but you can get by.
Cool teacher to learn from and can tell you the why for most things and very clear explaining the topics Took College Algebra under him and currently Cal 1 and will again for Cal 2 in spring would def recommend him -sw
Professor Anderson is a GREAT teacher. You can tell he really loves teaching. He gives you everything you need to be successful in his classes. He is always willing to help you. The class is a lot of work and very time consuming, but it can be done.
JP was a great teacher! He was always willing to help you and explained as many times as you needed until it was crystal clear. There was a lot of homework but it was good practice for the tests. The tests were veryy similar to the reviews he gave and if you did the review you should be fine. Overall he was a wonderful teacher! :)
Helpful
If you have the option to take him for a math class, you should. He posts a recommended study schedule. You don't have to do it, but it helps. There are two homework sections, graded, and notebook. The notebook hw is worth 10% of the test grade, so do all of it and the extra problems for 4 bonus points, they are vital. Do the graded hw as well.
He's by far the best teacher I've ever had! He's always there if you need him, and is always willing to explain your problems no matter how many times you ask him. Yes, he makes you work for your grade, so if you're looking for an easy A, he's not your man. His tests can be lengthy, but extra time is provided if required. Smartest person I know!
Great teacher, especially if you like old red head hippies who walk around barefoot in class. He knows his stuff, and he teaches it well. By far my fav teacher in the school. Cal 2 is a hard math class and he explains it simply. You will have to work though, expect no easy slacker A's.
Here is your JP Anderson survival guide right here: 1. Go to class, pay attention and don't be afraid to ask questions, he explains any question in full detail. 2. before every exam, he gives reviews, go through every review and double check your math with the key. 3. Do the book work. He is an amazing teacher, by far my favorite in San Jac!!
You'll have to do a lot of paperbook work, but if you keep on top of that and STUDY, you'll do just fine. His lectures are long but good and he's always willing to helpexplain more if you need to. Tests are not too long but homework can be. I'd take him again if I wasn't going to a 4-year university next semester!
He is an amazing teacher!! The semester started out fantastic as he explained everything with great detail, but as the course advanced, he did not spend as much time on the new material and sometimes i was left very confused. He always explained them to me though as I would email him or go to his tutorials. He gets back with you right away.
Great guy, very smart and sometimes funny. Would take his class again.
Great guy, very smart and sometimes funny.
Such a great professor. He comes to class everyday ready to answer any questions. He will make time to get with you if you're struggling with any sort of problem(s) until you fully understand it. Very fun and friend guy. Sign up for JP's class. You won't regret it.
Best teacher i have ever had! Very informative and wants you to learn. Will take his own time in class and out to make sure you understand all the concepts. Very informative tests, he makes sure that you understand them and tells you what will be on them. Be prepared to do the homework, which is not hard either, but, is required to do well.
Awesome Professor! Had him for calc 1 and calc 2, got A's in both of them. if you work out all the problems he gives in his reviews than you will Ace the tests! he is also very helpful! asks questions, he will be glad to help! If i could take him for calc 3 i would!
Amazing Professor!!! Just finished Cal 1. Very clear instruction on how to work problems out. If you have a question he will explain it in great detail. The amount of homework is not too much and it helps with understanding how to do the problems. His reviews are great! If you master the review you should have no problems on the test.
I took him because of highly he was rated! Big mistake. I did not like the way he taught infact he taught as if we already knew the material. Tests were extremely hard, the reviews were pointless. Lots of unnecessary homework! If you are good at math you might like him, otherwise maybe not!
I took his Cal 1, and this semester I took his cal2. His teaching is really clear and easy to understand. Doing lots of math problem as hw is necessary if you want to learn math well. Students who take cal2 should be familiar with the materials of cal1, and it's undoubted. Lazy people don't deserve high grade in this class.
JP is really nice and supportive. Calculus can be hard, but if you listen and pay attention during lectures, you should understand the subject. Make sure to do homework. It is good practice and allows you to know the material. The study guides are really helpful. He offers extra credit during review days. MAKE SURE YOU'RE THERE!
At first his lectures may seem confusing and fast paced but over time I got the hang of it. Also your hand might cramp up from all the writing haha. After doing the assigned homework I definitely understood the material better. He assigned some for completion and some that he actually looks over and grades. It is a lot of homework but its worth it.
great professor, makes every student feel like they've been heard.
Great prof. Lectures are very clear & straight-forward. All notes are posted on Blackboard afterwards. 3 exams, which are pretty easy, nothing hard/challenging, all based off of notes/HW. Final replaces lowest exam. Do all assigned HW to help understand material, and you'll get nothing less than a A
Great prof, he gives examples of each question for the test and has the class day before to review with extra credit for exam. Very personal, works to learn everyone's name and work one on one. Great help outside of class as well. Do the homework and pay attention and you will get an A. Taking again for Cal 2 bc he is the best!
I took him for Calculus 1 Honors, and he was a great teacher! His lectures are very detailed, and he always takes the time to answer any questions. He does post the class notes online afterward, but it's much better to go and take it in person. The homework and tests can be challenging, but hard workers pass. He always gives feedback if asked.
best math teacher at any SJC campus.
JP is an amazing professor. He does lecture quite quickly, but he posts notes from every class on Dropbox for you to use if you need it. JP doesn't make the class hard, Cal 2 is a hard course in general. Go to lectures, do all the homework (one set of problems from the book and one set of his own problems per week), and go to his office for help.
Took him for AIM w/Foxley. Very smart man but if it wasn't for her I would've dropped. Teaches very fast paced, and assumes you know things verses her who show step-by-step. He can be very sarcastic when asked things. Prefers both students math comes easy to & to be teaching calculus then Algebra & gives them extra help b/c Algebra should be easy.
Excellent prof. Makes you work for grade. Lengthy and difficult Homework due every week. But it prepares you for the test. Review session before test. Extra points given (max 3). Easy grader on tests. Tests are difficult. Master the review and you will get As on tests. Thought I would get C. Ended up with A. As on 5 tests.
GREAT!!!! LOVED THE CLASS !!!!!!
Dr. Anderson is a great professor. I took Calc II with him. Though its a hard class, he made it simple by explaining the concepts. Go to his office hours if you're unsure about anything. He wants you to pass and is always willing to help. Do your homework as it is a good practice for the tests. Be dedicated and you'll ace this class.
Took his class for Diff. Eq. and absolutely loved it! His lectures were on point and made sure they were also available on Bb. Exam reviews may seem hard but they really help to prepare for the exam. Homework was due the day before exams and also served as really good review materials. In-class reviews also served as extra credit opportunities.
After going to a 4 year university I realize how amazing he really is. He is not cold and boring like most math profs. His lectures go step-by-step on how to solve the problems and he uses real world references to help understand. Not stuck-up; very approachable. The review is harder than the test, but if you can do the hw, you can ace the tests.
He taught the subject very well. He helps you with any question you have. He is very kind and approachable. He is the best and the only professor I want for any math class.
JP is the best professor at san jac.
