Honestly one of the best teachers i've had here at BCIT. Extremely helpful, clear and actually enjoys what he does. Weird right? If you not only want to LEARN about business systems and want to enjoy class while youre at it... take this class with Juan!
Juan Azmitia is one of my favorite instructors. He taught me how to use Excel 2013, which is now a large part of my life. By choice. Man this class is dope. He paces things based on the slowest student.
great teacher
Juan is very passionate about the subject. Learn a lot of new tricks in MS Office. Assignments are long, but they help to master the material
AWESOME TEACHER. SAD TO NOT HAVE HIM ANYMORE. mircosoft office is amazing!
Very motivated to help students succeed. Engaged.
Very helpful.
Wonderful teacher - truly there for you to help you get a good understanding of the topic. I wish I could have had him for other BSYS classes! Goes that extra mile to explain things and genuinely cares if someone if lagging behind. Makes you feel comfortable learning. Can't say enough good things about this instructor - worth every penny!
One of my favorite classes to attend. He made a semi-boring subject enjoyable and he was very helpful throughout. Juan is a great instructor and really knows how to lead the class.
Great guy, class can be a tad boring but Juan is truly a fantastic teacher.
Juan is a great person. If you have no idea about pc and Microsoft Office, you if you have some idea about them, you will find this course pretty useful for your other courses and generally for your life at work. If you are good at them, some of the classes will be boring for you. Remember, the assignment are quite long. good luck.
Great instructor. Can relate to students. Too bad we did not have him in the labs
This course was not difficult if you complete assignments and attend class regularly. Juan is more than willing to assist with any questions, and provided time at the end of the class to complete assignments, so homework is completed in class unless you choose to leave early. Definitely was a grade booster.
LOVED his class! I bought the PDF version of the textbook for $20 off some guy, it's mandatory for the homework, and the only way of passing this class is if you do it! Very easy marker and all tests are open book. His lectures go for 1-2 hours and I would use the rest of the class to finish the assignments - never had any homework!
If you talk to him personally you can tell he cares about the people he teaches, would lobe to have him again. Group projects are long.
Juan is probably the most relaxed and funniest teacher I have had. He is very clear and straightforward with how he teaches, and you will understand what is required from you on the exams.
Straight to the point. No surprises on the exam.
Very helpful and accommodating. Best computer instructor I had at BCIT. Hard to judge, he is kind of a nerd, but at the same time he know how to interact with students.
The dude does not sleep. He replied to my e-mails at 2 am, 11 pm, or 5 am. Very approachable.
If you skip class and you don't make the labs you will suffer on the final exam. His exams are fair, but if you skip classes you will find them extremely difficult. Juan is very approachable, and he will help you if you ask for guidance
Excel is very hard. Juan assumes that you have time to read a chapter per week and to do the homework every week. We take 8 courses per term, who has time for this stupid class. Who cares about IF statements and Vlookup tables, I will have my assistant to deal with it. I don't see why we have to take this class
I wish more profs were like Juan. He is always there for you and makes lectures interesting by creating his own slides and not using the pre-made Pearson ones. He's very approachable and can relate to the students.
Dude's pretty chill, willing to help and overall a nice prof.
Very good instructor. He is always at BCIT. If you ask for help, he will help you.
Juan is a very helpful instructor and is very approachable.
The subject is boring, but he makes it enjoyable. I will be taking classes with him in the future. The textbook is expensive and is mandatory. I did not like that we had to buy the book.
Average instructor. The exams are fair. Make sure you read the textbook
Very tough grader. Easy exams, but he deducts 5% for each question you get wrong. Do not ask for partial marks.... You get full marks or no marks. Hard to compromise with him
Attend classes, his exams are based on his lectures. Don't be late to his class, he deducts marks for being late. Expect 3 pop quizzes. Be ready to read.
Juan is a great guy, and someone I wouldn't mind seeing outside of class. But as an instructor, he is lacking in many areas. His teaching style is not appealing to the students and his lectures go off topic far too often, with little cohesiveness between lectures/chapters. Perhaps that's a problem with the MIS textbook, but it is still a problem.
Too many technical terms. The textbook is dry. Too much reading and not enough opportunities to apply what we learn.
I wish I had taken the course at the beginning of my program. Learnt so many useful tips on MS Word and MS Excel. Plenty of time to work on your assignments during the lab. Open book exam.
I took this class before, and I failed it. With Juan I got 80%, and not because his classes are easy. He takes the time to explain things. MS Excel was so difficult for me, Juan made it very simple. If you ask for help, he will help.
He is very funny during lectures, and has a very fair mid-term and final. Easiest class I have ever taken. Classes sometimes end early but his lectures are very easy. Show up to his class, and its an easy A+. Open book tests, and he makes learning fun.
He pretends to be a nice person. His final exam was hard. Juan makes you believe that his exams are easy. His final exams are brutal. Don't take the course with him, he enjoys when people fail.
He gives a lot of homework, but if you do it you will get a good grade. Assignments and projects are related to the exams.
Juan's exams are easy; however, if you make a mistake he deducts 5% for each mistake. He helps during the class and lab time. Exams are 100% from his lectures. Don't have your cell on during his lecture; he gets very upset if people text during his lecture.
Explain word, Excel and ppt key points during hours of lecture. He will share many type of problems he'd use in midterm and final. Overall is good. He's good at explain details on excel. If you read and take time to practice those chapters' cases, you would get more than pass. Lack of sufficient problem discussion during class makes lecture dry.
He is OK. I heard good things and bad things about him. He is an average instructor. The difference is that he cares for the students who are slow.
MIS is a boring subject. The instructor was OK. You read, you show up to lecture, and you take notes.... you will pass. Juan's marking is hard. If you want an average grade you will get it. If you want an A, you will have to read
Way too much homework. But at least he gives you time to do it during the lab. Exams are based on his lectures.
Juan is a good teacher. If you ask, he will help. His lectures are short, so you can work on your assignments. Way too much work in his class.
he is good at what he does
Juan is very nice teacher. He is hilarious, friendly, respectful and professional. His class is very easy going and he answers questions very clearly and easy to understand. A very good teacher for a boring course. He makes it fun and easy.
MS Access is hard and difficult. Juan took the time to answer all my questions. His exams are fair, but you need to know your stuff.
He replies to e-mails within 24 hours. Provides great links and resources.
His exams are hard. If you skip class you won't pass. Juan is a very nice professor; however, he is very tough when it comes to grade assignments and exams.
Juan sometimes can be nice once in a while but usually if your stuck he just makes you figure it out yourself is very hard sometimes to be in his class.
one of the worst teacher professors I had
Gives few good few back sometimes helps sometimes don't not sometimes chooses to be sometimes chooses to be nice.
Very easy subject.. Exams are open book, open internet. His way of marking is hard, but if you know your stuff you will get over 80%.
hes puts in more papers in a exam and expects you to do it in a certain time only the finals he was okay but all the other time if you did not finish enough you will not pass
Lots of homework but easy exams.
Homework exercises are long. Exams are very different from the homework assigned.
It was a compressed course. Juan illustrated the main concepts during the lecture. Lab time was optional. Lots of homework but the final exam was based on the homework
Juan grades very hard, but his exams are easy. If you do all the homework you will pass the course. Do not use your smartphone in class; he will not answer to your questions if he sees you texting during lecture.
Good instructor. Open book exam, but if you don't prepare ahead of time you won't pass.
Juan is hard to read. He seems to be very easy going, but when it comes to grading he is very strict. Do not text during his lecture; he will give you a nasty look. His final exam was very hard.
Long assignments. Don't be late to his class. He takes attendance at the beginning of each lecture
Great instructor, very personable and caring. Has realistic expectations when it comes to homework and exams. I would definitely take another class with him, he was funny and helpful and considerate of his students. I learned alot.
Juan was available 7 days a week. He really supported the class during COVID 19
I enjoyed taking the class. The course was interesting and Juan offered comprehensive explanations and examples. He is very patient and has a great sense of humor. I really feel that I improved my knowledge regarding MS Office. Totally recommended.
With moving to an online platform Juan adapted very well. He's very clear with what he expects from you in this course and how you can succeed. If you follow the directions given, you'll pass with great marks no problem. He also went out of his way to provide students with studying materials such as flash cards. Great instructor.
There are weekly assignments on this course. Be ready to spend 2 or 3 hours per week. Course material was new to me; very difficult to understand. His exam is multiple choice. Fair marker, but too much reading.
Juan lectures for 1 or 2 hours, and then he allows to work on the assignments. He stays until the end of the lecture to explain assignments and to assist students. During the week and even on the weekends he is available for Zoom meetings. Great prof.
The exams are way easier than the assignments. You need to know your stuff, time on the exams is very limited. Lots of assignments but you get a lot of time and help to work on them.
I waited 2 sems so I could take his class cas it was always full. Very easygoing and fair, respectful and understands life as a bcit student. He answers q's in and out of the class and makes sure you understand. BUT make sure to do the wkly assignments and read the txtbook to improve comprehension on the logistics. He also adds relevant stories.
Hard to uinderstand and talks really fast.
Juan sets the expectations from the beginning. His lectures are very entertaining and he is very creative to take attendance. Weird to see a college professor wearing suit and a tie these days. He looks more like an Accounting professor. Straight to the point and willing to help.
My class was in person. When I had questions and I e-mailed him he replied with a video and provided an example to answer my question. Took the time to record videos for several students. Don't be late to his class, he takes attendance at the beginning. Weekly assignments and those assignments can be time consuming.
Inspirational. Difficult to find someone who is passionate about teaching. Juan balances a technical class with a humanitarian approach. I learnt from him a lot about how to use excel to track my personal finances. Too bad he is not teaching us this semester.
Well structured and organized. At some point very predictable. Every week has the same structured. Videos are not long and support the content presented on each chapter. Exams are multiple choice, can be tricky. Overall he is a good teacher.
Nit-picky marker who is unnecessarily punishing when it comes to grading. He uses a system to grade tests where if you get a question correct on exams it will earn you 1 point, but if you get that same question wrong, he will deduct 5 points. He knocks 20% (a full letter grade) off for a single mistake in assignments with 25+ steps. Awful.
Juan is a good teacher overall but is a tough grader. He provides a lot of examples for how things should be done which is helpful. It's best to not be late for class even though he is understanding if you have problems. He is more strict than not.
I just finished my Final Exam for FMGT 2701 today. All exams are multiple choice. Use the test banks and practice questions from the publisher. If you do it, you will get an A. Final Exam way easier than the Midterm. Pre-recorded lectures give you an overview of the chapter, but most of the questions come from the book.
Great, passionate instructor. He does a phenomenal job working personal stories into the lectures to keep you interested and tries to make the class as interactive as possible. He understands how people learn and you can see it in his teaching style. If you show up and do the homework you will do well. He's also a friendly guy who loves a chat!
One of my favourite instructors at BCIT. I always recommend to other classmates. Thank you, Juan
Juan is incredible! He knows his stuff and he knows how to get it across. His class is definitely worth attending. Loved him!
Juan is hands-down one of the most professional and charismatic educators I've had the pleasure of learning from. From the moment he stepped into the classroom, he exuded a contagious energy that instantly captivated the attention of every student.
Mr. Azmitia's classes are infused with a delightful sense of humor, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters both intellectual curiosity and a positive atmosphere. Mr. Juan Azmitia is an exceptional teacher.
Juan is very organized. 12 weeks, 10 prerecorded lectures, 1 midterm and 1 final exam. He added youtube videos and other resources to make the course easier to understand.
Juan is extremely strict when it comes to attendance and being late. He does not tolerate any cheating. He is a nice person, but if you cheat be ready. I have seen students crying after they try to justify cheating. He has traveled all over the world, and he uses examples from his trips to illustrate points.
he is in his own world where he thinks he is the best and that whatever grades he gives on assignments is right. he just makes his own things to stay relevant while teaching easy courses at bit. Arrogant and uncompetitive prof not to mention half of the time
Prof Juan Azmita iis very pleasant. However; if you cheat on his class, he will fail you. I saw many students crying because he caught them cheating on the exam. I don't have a problem with him, average professor. He can track all your moves online. Amazing at showing how we leave a digital footprint on everything we do online.
This online course was well structured. A couple of videos had sound problems. Read the book, and do the assignments and you will pass. I met him only twice (midterm and final exam). Juan seems to be very strict. He started the midterm and final on the dot. I don't know how, but he can see what people are doing on the computers.
Juan gives weekly assignments. Be prepare to spend at least 2 or 3 hours. He gives time to work in class; however, it is not enough. His lectures are good. Very interactive. Juan has no patience for people who cheat in his class. The class is very easy, just time consuming.
The course itself is boring. Juan has a tone of videos to make it easier to understand. 10 long assignments, midterm and final. He has eyes everywhere on the exam. He had another instructor who was pretending to be a student. Don't trust who is seating next to you.
Very bad professor. He assign 0 to me because checking cellphone. He gave me 0 in course, not good person not good professor, very bad person. not help me
Professor Juan Azmitia uses a lot of examples from the news and from Canadian companies. His classes at night end up until the very end of the session. Don't be late to his class; you will lose marks.
Professor Juan is thoughtful about his students. The book can be heavy, but to make it easy to digest he shares YouTube videos, different relevant articles and government information. He makes jokes during the class to keep our attention and shares his different experiences to provide examples about the class chapter. Thank you Juan :)
He seems to be extremely harsh and strict, but he is the nicest professor I have had at BCIT. He was extremely helpful during the semester. He offered alternatives to me to write the final exam. I was dealing with cancer treatment; and he went the extra mile to accommodate. Very inspirational.
Heisextremely strict anddisorganized First day class he spent 50 minutes talk about how previous students cheated on his class so don't cheatHe never uploads his notes on time and refuses to upload the course schedule He openly said into the class "Try not to make me crazy or I'll make you crazy"This is not how an instructor should treat students
Very strict. He said "do you homework, read the book, and you will pass". Clear rules, but too strict in my opinion.
Juan is the nicest professor I had at BCIT; however, he gets extremely mad when people cheat on his exams. He has eyes everywhere. Classes are interactive, but if you are shy, you will suffer. He asks a lot of questions to the students.
I just finished the Final Exam. Go over his slides and you will pass. Time is tight. Make sure you practice all your MS Excel. He evaluates heavily on Time and Date Functions. The last portion of the class can be used to complete homework; sometimes 45 minutes sometimes one hour.
Good professor. Be ready to use your handwriting. Lot's of papers to write in class.
Mr. Asmitia tells you in his lectures what he is going to ask you on the exam. When he says; "this will be on the exam"; make sure you take notes. Open book, open internet exams. MS Excel is complicated, but he explains it very well. Assignments are long.
No "Group Projects". I love it.
Professor Azmitia is knowledgeable but lacks effective communication and support for students. His teaching style is unclear, and requests for help were often ignored or delayed. The course schedule was not provided on time, and the overall classroom environment felt unwelcoming and disrespectful. This made the learning experience difficult.
Juan goes the extra mile when it comes to re-scheduling exams. His exams are open book/open internet. You really need to know your Excel for the final exam
Good prof, but taking classes at night makes hard to finish assignments during the lab time. Juan gives you an hour of lab time, he stays until the end, but is hard to stay when you have worked all day.
The classes tend to go until the end. A lot of group activities during the lectures, but not group assignments. Exams are multiple choice. Juan uses a lot of relevant examples. He is very strict, make sure you are ontime.
Very good prof. 10 assignments that are time consuming. Lots of writing. Midterm and Final are Multiple Choice, 100 questions. Be ready to read and write, but it is a course that you can pass if you put the time and effort.
Be prepared to spend at least 3 hours to complete you homework. Juan gives you time during the Lab to do part of it. The course is easy, but you need to know your MS Excel. After the midterm the course gets complicated. Juan will lecture concepts that are not on the book.
The best Prof so far, you will understand everything in the class and via the assignment which all are easy, he is nice and super knowledgeable.
