I had him as a TA for Math 11 at UCSD and this guy is by far the best TA I've ever had. He definitely knows how to teach statistics and really cares for his students and their learning. I learned way more from Juan than I did from the actual professor. I couldn't have passed the class without him!

It's barely the first week but so far I like him. He is new and fairly young to be a professor but it is nice to see someone fresh and really enthusiastic about math. Plus, he is very easy on the eyes and has a really great personality, which makes him very approachable. Let's see how the semester goes and hope I can finally pass this class!

I wish I hadn't dropped his class but it was really early in the morning for me. He is actually really nice and such a sweetheart! He cracks jokes here and there to make sure we are awake but I just wished the class wasn't that early. I'm definitely taking him again and I like the way he dresses. Very fashionable! :)

good smart guy and really entertaining since most of the class was half asleep cuz class was early but really enjoy his class. hes young but a pro a teaching and seems to really get along with the students because of his personality. one bad thing is that he does assign a lot of homework

Class is mandatory so you have to go and if you don't go, you're pretty much screwed because he doesn't use the book often because it sucks. He's a great lecturer and is a really bright guy but his tests are a bit hard, at least for me they were. He is a nice guy but make sure you are on top of things because he will pick on you to answer questions

Too bad this is my last math class or else I would have taken Prof. Juan again! The material is hard if you don't practice but he gives a ton of extra credit just so we can have motivation to practice the material. He's amazing and good looking too! Def made me get up in the morning

I use to hate math, but this professor seriously change my perspective on it. Overall he is a great professor. His good looks can be distracting at times. I recommend anyone that needs a math course to take it with this professor. ugh I can't seem to click the chili pepper enough ;)

This guy is awesome. He would stop and review to make sure that everyone in the class can catch up. Probably one of the few professors who is actually available during his office hours. He also replies to emails. Overall a very nice guy. He has long homework but you'll have several days to finish them and his exams and quizzes were easy.

Must take! He goes down to your level and actually explains concepts in a way that everyone understands. When you talk to him, its like you are talking to a professional homie. I was always afraid to ask questions but he encourages us to ask questions and wants us all to pass. Pre-Calc is hard but he made it seem like cake. And his laugh! lol

Motivating, encouraging, funny, inspiring, and sooooo cool! I never had so much fun learning the material. One of the few professors who actually cares about students learning, never made us feel dumb, and he knew all of our names. I think there was like 50 of us. Two midterms and one take home exam (super hard but gives us a week to complete it).

He talks super fast!! But I heard him speak Spanish fast too so I think its just a cultural thing. That's the only bad thing about him but if you ask him to slow down he will. Overall, everyone likes him and he gets along with everyone

I took him at Grossmont College for Math 088, He cares about his students, he didnt have office hours, but stayed after class as long as need to help. You must study the material. This can be an easy A, if you study, I learned a lot. I wish I could take him for my Math 90 class. If you get the chance take his class!!!

I do agree, he does talk so fast so it can be hard to understand him but he is so unbelievably smart! He is like a crazed math robot just solving problems and crunching numbers. The way he thinks about math and presents it us is probably the best I've ever seen from a math professor. Overall, he's pretty darn good at teaching and super nice.

Bernal is a fantastic teacher. Most people have a hard time in math, but he explains everything really well, and doesn't mind going over things a second time if you don't understand. Tests are a little hard, but you're allowed a page of notes, making it much easier. He's really funny and just makes math class awesome

I just finished a semester of Math 119 and I am so thankful I took his class. I don't like math and he made statistics easier to understand. He helps you so much but you won't pass the class if you don't try because he does everything in his power to help you pass. He is funny and knows his math. Taking this class once a week was enough for me.

His class is like a roller coaster and you just want to ride it over and over and over again. He is organized, so funny, and knows his stuff even though he is really young. He does talk a little fast though but he is really good at math.

You go to class and just listen and interact with him about statistics and data. He's so intuitive and makes you understand why something is a certain way. I learned so much in this class (even though it was a lot of information) but make sure you take good notes and write down everything on the board. That is key to pass his tests.

Juan is like one of the coolest people I know! He has so much energy and you can tell he is passionate about what he does and is really interested in getting to know you. Juan is the most fun professor I've had so far in college. He's not strict about attendance at all! He's very good at explaining things and is there for you if you need help. He's very helpful and gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. He does give a lot of hw and tests, but the tests are open note. He's only a few years older than me! Ha

One of the most disciplined, poised, knowledgeable yet chill, laid back, and caring professors I have ever taken. He made the class manageable and interesting with his energy. I will definitely miss taking this class because he made us feel important and worthy. Super inspiring and motivating and so confident. I want to be him when I grow up!

Juan managed to go over important sections in just less than 8 weeks. He gives out practice tests that really help you to prepare. His tests focus on the important and useful topics but you still need to practice. He cares for his students and is lenient. He's a nice funny guy, too.

Professor Bernal was extremely helpful in any confusion had in work and was easy to get ahold of if needed. He cares about his students and helps in whatever way he can. His lectures are usually pretty short but still get across all the material followed by in class work which if you paid attention in class you should be able to finish easily.

Honestly the best math professor ever. Lectures are really clear, and not fast paced. He allowed one page cheat sheets on exams, which really helps. Always had a positive attitude, and enthusiastic way of teaching that made students enjoy the class. For the final exam, students were allowed to choose what was to be on the exam.

Very approachable person/professor he's also humble. His way of teaching is easy and straight to the point, of course you need to come to class to understand everything. Jaun is one of the best instructors I've had. This is my second class with him and I wish I could take another. His lectures are great and a really good mix of lecture and class work. There is a lot of homework so its not detrimental to your grade to miss one. He truly cares about his students and is someone other professors should try to be like.

Juan is an amazing guy. He actually takes the time out to break difficult problems down into much simpler ones. How hard you work is what grade you will get. We can use 1 sheet notes on exams and final consisted of a partner final which was open notes. TAKE THIS CLASS and do your homework you will get an EASY A. Plus hes super cute.

If you struggle in math and have overwhelming math anxiety, Professor Bernal is your algebra blankie. He takes the agony out of math and provides you with all the tools to succeed. Classroom tutor, tutoring sessions, notes for exams and a partner for the final. Seriously, take him.

He honestly wants his students to pass, and it shows in the way he teaches. He will answer any questions you have, even if they've been answered before (other professors would mock you for repeating questions.) I cannot recommend him enough, he is genuinely the best math professor on Mesa Campus.

Class is flipped, so he does youtube videos and in class, we do data analysis. He does quizzes to make sure you watched them. This guy really knows his stuff and I learned a lot! Classwork, 3 exams, and a final team presentation. Don't skip class cause the class gets hard (CLT and HT are the hardest)! But funniest guy I met with the best eyebrows!

Amazing professor I actually sign-up for his math119 course because I absolutely love him. He makes math easy and is willing to take his time and explain to the students. Honestly I wish more math professors would be like him, if you do not pass you must have tried to not pass he makes it easy to pass his class.

Take Juan's class for stats 119, you won't regret it! He honestly cares about his students passing his class and always offers help. Class is pretty straight forward with 3 exams, a couple really easy quizzes(of course if you watch his lecture videos which help a lot!) and worksheets. Do the work and you pass. Professor Juan is incredible! You don't have to have the physical textbook, but you need a MyMathLab subscription. Attendance is not mandatory, but don't expect to pass if you regularly miss class. Very clear grading system. There are ZERO surprises on the test - he is extremely clear about what you need to study. Pay attention and it's an easy A.

Math 121 was my last math & I'm glad I was able to have Juan as my math teacher again! He is really amazing if you need to take math 121 & he offers it take it with him!There are 3 exams, 1 final exam, class worksheets, and hw online. This math isn't easy in general but his videos help a lot & he cares about you passing so if you need help ask him!

I have always had an immense amount of anxiety brought on by math. However, this class changed the way I look at math. Juan is great. He posts weekly step by step videos for the weekly quizzes. WATCH THEM. I took notes on the videos, and came to class and took lecture notes. I aced every exam and quiz. He lets you use a "cheat sheet" for exams.

I took Math 96 online/blended with professor Bernal. His lectures online were easy to understand and concise. He was always available to answer questions or provide assistance, and it seemed like he really cared if we did well. Online during summer session this class was very fast paced, so it wasn't necessarily easy, but I got an A.

Had Juan for Cal II in the summer. He is a solid professor. In my previous math class, you had to sacrifice taking good notes and miss out on lectures or vice versa. It was a mad scramble at times. Juan's class, not so much. His lectures are slow, methodical and exceptional. Don't hesitate, take his class if you can.

Best professor I've taken. I was on my last attempt to take Math119 and he made it easy to pass and fun. He makes videos for your class so that makes everything a lot easier. Additionally he is always available after class or before so there is no excuse not to pass his class. He is very knowledgeable which explains why he's good at what he does.

He explains things so easily so you understand it and even if you still dont he is more than willing to help in his office hours. Calculus is a hard subject in general. Professor Bernal went out of his way on several occasions to explain concepts to me that I wasn't understanding the first time around. He would make the effort to explain a concept 4 or 5 times, and didn't stop until he could clearly see that I then understood the concept at hand. 5/5! I'm hoping to take pre-calculus with him this Summer!

Honestly, I think this is the best professor I have had in college. He loves his job and loves his students. Very helpful. Explains material very well and makes it so easy to understand. Even tho I have taken him half online, half in class because of Corona. He uploaded youtube lectures and is always available.

He is very invested in teaching and it is crazy how much this guy knows. He even explains where Calc 2 is used in various fields in engineering, science and statistics. He does have clear and high expectations of everyone but Calc 2 is very hard. Exams are challenging but doable if you study hard, and if you do well, you can skip the final.

Juan is without a doubt the best math professor. Hes very clear on what he expects. Since this a 2nd semester math class you should already know whats expected of you. If you get a 90 or above on everything which is easily doable if you apply yourself, you can skip the final. He has 4 exams. Homework is on webassign. Quizzes in class open notes

Professor Bernal is the BEST!! I haven't had calculus for like 5 years and I learned absolutely nothing in calc 1 and just passed it with easy A. Juan taught me every single thing from algebra and trig to calc in an easy way. During the pandemic, he provided videos and he was extra helpful. I completely recommend him!

Best professor I ever had in my 23 years of life, he really want you to pass and understand the material, I never had a B in any math class because it was so hard to understand until I took this class, I heard of him from so many people and honestly everyone should have him, with the pandemic we had to take the class online and we still make fine!

The class was taken over the summer and trig is a dense course, so I may be biased. The actual class was not difficult but there was definitely effort put in. He is a good teacher and has great videos for his lectures. You will need to show up to pass, but that can be said with any math class. Do all the homework and you will be fine.

Want to learn Calc 3? Look no further! Juan is a BOSS at Calc 3 and makes the class relatable and interesting. BUT, he is NOT easy. He expects you to know Calculus well, a stickler for notation, and his exams can be VERY conceptual. Take if you really want to learn but don't expect an easy A. HW, daily quizzes, classwork, and 4 exams. A TON of WORK

Probably the best Calculus professor I've had, and I am a UCSD grad. He makes everything easy to understand and explains methods/problems in detail for those who don't. Concepts that I had a hard time previously were EASY (i.e. chain rule & u-sub). Can be a little sassy, but he is funny and engages with the class.

Great teacher! Lecture examples and homework really help to prepare for the exams. Study guides for the exams are kind of similar to the exam. Theres only four exams and a final. Quiz every week and homework every week as well

Juan is an awesome Professor and he is extremely knowledgeable and smart. I received a B in the class and I know if I had not missed any classes and submitted every single assignment, I would have had an A. The tests can be tough but he gives partial credit. He has several extra credit assignments.

He enjoys teaching Math and I've only had him for one semester but he's very invested with his students. He wants everyone to really learn the material. The study guides are somewhat helpful, but they won't help much on the exams. I would've gotten a B if I worked harder but my units were overloaded. Assigns lots of homework and quizzes at the end.

He changed my view on Math and is by far the BEST math professor I've ever had! If I could take a billion math classes with him I would. He is the kind of person you either love or hate and I LOVE him(he's a gem). He goes over everything in DETAIL he doesn't rush he listens to his class and makes sure you are very WELL prepared for the exams.

Juan was the best statistics professor I could've asked for! Math has never been my strong suit but Juan made this class super easy and I ended with an A+. He's so funny and nice and is always willing to re-explain things that you don't understand. He made Zoom lectures engaging and easy to follow. If you don't know who to take, TAKE HIM!!

One of the best professors ive taken especially for a harder class like stats. Do the work and study the concepts (he explains them great!) and you can end up with an A. There is an optional final that will bring up your lowest test grade plus some extra credit throughout the semester. Definitely take Juan!

Professor Bernal is amazing! I took his class during the summer and was honestly pretty easy. As long as you watch his lectures, you will pass the class. He is very accessible which is appreciated. Don't bother cheating in his class, he will know. But very respected and explains the lessons very well.

Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. The way he teaches math makes it so easy to follow along and actually understand it. You will always know what to expect on his tests too. I took him for algebra all the way to business calc and I would retake his classes if I could.

Everything you've heard is true. Professor Bernal really is one of the best. Period. Even if math isn't your strong suit, you will pass (provided you do the work). Juan Bernal is the most passionate, caring, and empathetic teacher I've ever had and he deserves all the praise he receives and then some.

I am horrible at math. Never liked it and still don't. But, Bernal was so understanding and and willing to answer any questions I had and at a pace so that he made sure I understood the material. That being said CLASS IS SUPER IMPORTANT! He explains everything on his tests in class IN DETAIL with slightly modified questions including word problems

I highly recommended professor Juan Bernal if you're supposed to take a Math class. He's enthusiastic, fun, and friendly. Also, with the way he taught and conveyed the knowledge to students, I am for sure that even you aren't a math person, you still understand and love it. To me, this class was easy. He's the best online professor I've ever met.

Professor Bernal is a great math educator. I have struggled with math ALL my life until I took him for Math 121/122. He is not easy but he is VERY fair. Makes the material a LOT easier to understand and he drops quite a few things at the end. I am quite sad I won't be taking him again but very glad he was my last math prof. Definitely take him!

Great teacher love his class would request him for all my math classes.

Clear expectations. HW is due the day of the exam, so self-pace is required but isn't a lot of hw. Practice exams(not for grade) and solutions are given before every exam. Doesn't argue/fight about DSPS accommodations. Really cares, wants everyone to pass. Explains algebra/trig steps most of the time. Do hw & ask questions asap, you'll pass.

PROS: Explains incredibly well until you understand, makes class fun, is very patient, gives plenty of extra credit, drops lowest two quizzes from grade, drops lowest homework from grade, and optional final to replace lowest exam; CONS: None! Professor Bernal is the best math professor ever! You can tell he truly cares about his students.

I loved Professor Torres! His lectures were very well-thought-out and he explains everything, and he'll always help you if you have questions :) He's super cool and you'll get an easy A if you take some time to learn the material and have fun with it. Anyone on here who gives him a bad rating are slackers. Go with the majority, he rocks.

Professor Juan is young, has an amazing personality, and is super smart. All the girls drool over him (80% of the class was chicks). Clear expectations of the class, opportunity for extra credit, and lots of homework on MOM to practice. Drops the final if you are content with your grade. This guy dresses nice and wears some rad earrings.

I TOOK 4 CLASSES WITH HIM and guys just trust me, PROF. BERNAL IS THE BEST. He really cares about students and would not make you fail in his class. I'm not saying that he will give you an automatic A. You need to study for it. However, it's easy to follow and he will explain over and over if you need it. He's hilarious and offers extra credits.

Prof Bernal is incredibly supportive of student success and a great lecturer. Loads of opportunities for extra credit as long as you show your understanding, and balanced exams and tests that he prepares for well. Generally flexible with deadlines. He's also just a kind guy with a good sense of humor and an obvious passion for teaching and math.

If you take notes in his class you'll be fine.

His class is way more straightforward than when I took it with a different professor. All you have to do is pay attention to the lectures and plug in the exact formulas he tells you to, and you can easily pass the class. I like how instead of just having us study and take exams, he gives actual homework sheets so we can practice concepts.

I really want people to know how amazing Profe Bernal is. I would have had a higher grade in this class but at the end I went through some personal difficulties. I forsure would have gotten a better grade because hes that great of a teacher. His lectures are so detailed and any concerns he helps out. He gives good material for exams & hmwrk.

I took Math 119 this summer, it was a bit overwhelming at first but it got better. His lectures videos are clear on how you need to do the homework and quizzes. He gives practice test that help so much on the test. He is also great if you have a question he responds pretty quick. I am not the best at math but he helped me understand this class.

Juan is the absolute best, his lectures are intense but he makes them easy to understand and always answers questions, exams and quizzes are almost always open note or group based, and he always will work with you to make sure you understand. couldnt reccomend him enough.

Amazing! The lectures and notes are well organized. He cares about his students and continues to improve his teaching processes! Very knowledgeable without trying to be all lofty about it. He makes math and STEM very accessible.

BEST TEACHER!!!! What teacher other that Professor Bernal has so much life, he is so down-to-earth, funny, and changed my perspective on math. He has taken tons of math classes, he is genuinely interested and knowledgable. Teaches it well, although he is a genius he still makes the concepts easy to understand for those of us who aren't.

The best F-ing math professor ever. Took him for Calc 1 over the summer and just wrapped up with Calc 2. The absolute best at what he does. Came out of his class feeling like a genius and he makes calculus very easy to understand. He truly does care about your success and if you truly want an A, he will give you many opportunities to do so!

Professor Bernal is the best prof to take for calc. I took him for calc 1 over the summer and again for calc 2. He is a great professor who truly wants you to succeed. Weekly HW assignments due Sunday, 4 exams + 1 optional final, and worksheets due each week. Workload isn't bad if you manage your time and he allows cheat sheets on exams. Take him!!

He is THE best math Professor I've taken in my entire life. His lecture is better and easier to understand than Organic Chemistry Tutor, who has been teaching me everything in STEM classes. He will explain topics that are typically depicted as hard so much simpler. The workload is so low. Exams are so similar to practice exam. Please take him.

Phenomenal professor. Gives you everything you need to succeed, and more. Makes complex topics easy to understand, creates a safe space for questions, and truly cares about his students. If you can take him for any math class, do it! He is also flexible and understands that life happens. Good practice exams and he does extra review sessions!

If you need to fulfill a math requirement, TAKE HIS CLASS. The lectures were long at times, but very straightforward and they made assignments easy as they were directly related. If you just watch the lectures, take notes, and do the assignments, I'm sure you'll get an A. Only downside was he he took a while to grade stuff, if you care about that.

Want the real Bernal experience? Take him on campus! Better teacher face to face than online. Clear grading expectations, shows where Calculus is used in real life, and challenges you to better yourself in math and life in general. Homework was okay. Definitely a cool math nerd with great fashion and is probably the funniest person I have ever met

I took Statistics with Juan Bernal over a 4-week intersession course and it was fantastic. If he gave me this experience in a fully online 4-week course, I can only imagine how amazing he would be in a classroom. He teaches in a way that makes sense. I want to mention that he is fair and understanding, grades fast, and is quick to respond to email.

Winter 4-week. His recorded lectures are quite good-- his experience as a data scientist shows. Gives a fair idea of scope, and where the math gets more advanced. Oversimplifies at times imo but not nearly as much as other profs. HW/Quizzes very fair, and labs fairly interesting. Fast class but didn't feel too rushed. Friendly and communicative.

This man is an absolute GOD! He broke his arm after getting T-boned by a truck in the middle of the semester and still came back to teach in pain and with a cast. He has devotion to his students and genuinely cares about us. I am inspired by his teaching and wants us to succeed. He is NOT easy by any means and has high expectations. Take him!

Continuing from my previous post, he is smart, caring, challenges you to do better, and is accessible in office hours until you finally get it. I know his class fills up quick but if you have a chance to take him and want to be challenged, take him! Prof Juan will make you like math and is so down to earth. I wish every math prof will be like him.

Professor Juan is very understanding and cool. His teaching style is fantastic, made it so easy to understand. HW was more difficult than the actual tests so try to complete it on time because it's helpful for the exams. He had an accident and a couple of subs (not bad) had to take over for a few weeks but I'm telling you, there is no comparison.

Literally one of the most incredible teachers - not only makes math (in this case calc 3) easy to understand, but genuinely cares about the success for each of his students. Will always stop to walk you through a problem step by step, and is super understanding if you have any issues as long as you communicate. TAKE HIM IN BERNAL WE TRUSTTT

The king, the goat, the comedian… whatever you want to call him, this guy is legit. Too smart for his own good and is classy in both math and outfits. Took him for Calc 1-3 and stats, so do not hesitate and take him while seats last. He will challenge you to do better and motivate you. Expect to put in work with peer mentors or he will call you out

The most clear lectures I've ever had. He's very good at introducing topics, and he clearly explains the fundamental concepts. It made it so much easier by the time a topic was concluded; there weren't gaps in knowledge. He'll give you every opportunity to succeed. He doesn't give much homework, so make sure you do it properly, and you'll do well.

Professor Bernal is THE best professor you can take for any math class. Amazing person and even a better professor. Explains everything thoroughly and doesn't make you do dumb pointless problems. Extremely understanding and very kind. You will learn a lot in thus class. Cant say enough good about this guy! Overall highly recommended!

THE BEST PROF EVER! I'm not exaggerating! Wish I took him 4 all my math classes. If ur picking math profs, ALWAYS CHOOSE JUAN! He never shames u 4 forgetting stuff & he explains things so it clicks. I'm the shy student & he's so approachable. Best combo of making it an easy A & teaches so well. (didn't have 2 use organic chem tutor this class LOL)

Juan is absolutely the best. Ive had 5 other math professors at Mesa. I wish everyone of them was him. Does not shame you, always helps, understands you forget how to do stuff, good exams, good reviews, grades quickly, is funny, does group quizzes. But more than anything, he knows how to teach and you dont need anything outside of him. Take him!

Took his online statistics course this summer and absolutely loved every minute of it. The lectures and notes were easy to follow, and the assignments and labs were not overly complicated and actually reflect the material that he taught. Such an amazing professor and a great human-being, I highly recommend him!

By far my favorite professor, not only is he very accessible but he cares for his students and is very open when teaching. Will take time to explain until you understand and occasionally holds study sessions for students during times that works best for you!! Definitely recommend and wished he taught 121 during my semester!

First professor I've ever had whose lectures matched the homework, labs, and quizzes perfectly. I have taken stats three times or so and this was the first time I have ever been able to understand the material and apply it. Took his summer online course and absolutely devastated it seems he doesn't teach 121 :(

Students do not know what gift they have with Prof. Bernal. Took him for the first time for Calculus 3 in the summer and this man is legit. Super smart, knows how to teach, funny and great personality, and will push you. If he calls you out, it's because he cares. Final is optional and replaces an exam. Believe me, this man is the GOAT! #homiejuan
