Can be hard to understand through accent. Very boring speaker. Offers extra credit without being clear that the homework is extra credit. Overall not happy w/class wish I could have had Mrs. Gumbiner
Very hard to understand, examples not explained well. Study guides not very helpful for tests.
Very Easy Teacher. Nice Guy and very Lax. I enjoyed his class alot. Hard to understand at times but if you follow along you will be okay.
His class is hard, he gives mult. question test, and extra credit is your homework, but it's still hard to make an A because he lacks teaching ability. Very Confusing class. If you want a good teacher for College Algebra take Jason Wethering at the North Campus. Trust Me, you will make a A or B if you do the reviews there just like the test!!!

Very hard teacher in my opinion. Probally a very smart man, but he cannot teach. You do need a tutor or really understand the materials. Homework is all extra credit, and you will need it
overall, he's a nice guy, but his teaching method sucks. Accent doesn't bother me, and it's funny when he says like questions 1 "doodoo" 5 or something. He lectures for like 20 min, then lets you out of class. Easy to approach, but not a teacher I would take for a second time
He made me retake the first test because I didn't show my work even though nobody else showed their work. ...and he has a problem with playing "favorites."
Hard to understand but great teacher. Lectures for 20 min. then your free to go, but he stays the entire class if you need the help.
He lacked teaching ability and he never showed the whole process of doing the problems. He was a nice guy but was not a very helpful teacher. He did not explain things very well and often talked with his back to the class. He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had, and I do not recommend him.
I was nervous about taking his class after reading all the bad reviews. Not to mention I had to miss the first test. He is the easiest professor that I have ever had. He lets you make a "cheat sheet" which basically means you can write your notes down word for word with examples for the tests. He also gives extra credit for homework. EASY! Take him
He drives me crazy. He doesn't thouroughly explain anything so I pretty much had to teach myself the material straight out of the book. Be sure you stay up on the material because the tests are comprehensive. Extra credit is a plus!
Dr. Burbano's class is super easy, and im not good with math, i failed the class the first time i took it with someone else and now i have an A! Take it with Burbano. If you need help make sure you ask otherwise he will assume you know what your doing.
very easy, all homework os extra credit and he has an awesome policy for making up tests
He does not teach you ANYTHING! He believes that students learn by repetition. BUT if your like me and need someone to show you math, than he is horrible! When I called and asked for help and asked if there was something xtra I could do to make up my grade, he stated "This isnt highschool, whats done is done" and he HUNG UP ON ME! Hes a jerk!
Completely useless. Everything I learned was self taught, he refused to stray from the book and the class examples weren't helpful. Homework was extra credit, but he didn't tell us this. Barely understandable with his accent, very absentminded. Avoid him unless you can teach yourself everything.
I dont know what these other people are talking about. Professor Burbano is an awesome teacher hes very helpful and loves to be asked questions until YOUR finished and sure of yourself! He makes homework extra credit and gives out lots of handouts to go along with the homework! Great teacher! guys if you can get him your lucky!
He instructs by handing out copies of the even set of problems from the homework assignments with the problems worked out and reads over them during class. If you don't understand, you must ask, he will do problems on the board if asked, otherwise he assumes you know. Extra points for homework.
If you show up and ASK QUESTIONS- IN CLASS, he'll help you. Hard to understand. If no one asks, he assumes you know and moves on. Can be tough, but in all reality, you really just have to work really hard at home and do all of your homework.
Prof Burbano is great! I think people that complain about him are just lazy and didn't put in the work to get good grades. He's not on your case to do your homework but if you do it it adds 5 points to your test scores and guarantees a good grade on the test.He also reviews what will be on each test and lets us make a cheat sheet with that info.
I have taken Prof. Burbano for Stats, Inter. Alg, and College Alg. He is the best Professor I have taken to date. He gives people the opportunity to work or not. Homework is worth 5extra credit toward the next test. If you don't pass his class it is only due to your lack of effort. He stays and helps anyone who needs it after class Highly recommend
he was a horrible teacher. by defintion a teacher is someone who teaches you, not someone who stands and talks to the bored then sits down and stares. he uses all the material out of the book and will not work problems anyway else. he picks favorites and is unfair in grading, you have to teach yourself. im mad at myself for paying to take this class
I took the class for a grade and actually came out understanding some things. Very nice to be treated like an adult who is expected to work for a grade instead of being handed one
Worst teacher I've ever had. I couldn't understand him and he never helped. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!
I had to withdraw from this class. Horrible teacher. He does not teach and will not help. I asked in several occasions but it was useless. Not my style of teaching.
I took stats with him. Very easy class. He offers extra credit if you do all the homeworks. If you don't ask questions, he won't help you. Lectures are boring, you really don't have to attend class if you're not interested in doing the homework. Everything you need to know is in the notes.
You have to teach yourself the material, everythings out of his notes or the text book, there really isnt a reason to go to class. Homework is optional and extra credit.. its nice if you understand math but if you have trouble take a diffrent teacher
Dr. Burbano obviously loves teaching, but he doesn't understand that people learn in different ways and he only has ONE way of explaining things. I really respect him as a person and a professional individual but I honestly don't think he is suited to being a teacher. I wouldn't recommend him if you aren't strong in math and an independent learner.
He is very helpful, always willing to work with you, to help you understand completely. I loved having the preprinted notes so I could follow along and not worry about taking notes, I would just have to clarify a few thingsin the notes.
Good class, he was helpful, flexible, and went above and beyond for many students.Homework was optional, tests were similar to the reviews he provided. Overall, I would recommend this class and this teacher.
Teacher is difficult and really pushes struggling students to use the free tutors. Homework is extra credit on test scores. Don't miss class or you will fall behind. His personality is dry but math is not typically fun anyway
***LAZY? DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES.*** There is no way to not pass with a good grade unless you do not apply yourself. Extra credit just for doing the homework? What other class has that? If you actually DO the homework and not just copy answers you'll understand the how and the why. He'll sit with you and explain things, all you have to do is ask.
This teacher really wants his students to get a good grade but he is hard to understand because he only explains the math in one way and does not recognize that people learn in all different ways. I love algebra but I had a difficult time with this class. Also he did not give my class any extra credit even for the homework tho he promised he would
Dr. Burbano is an excellent teacher, he really wants his students to do well and will help during break or after class. He is willing to go above and beyond. He gives extra credit on the exams if you do the homework, which was nice. If you do the homework, you'll get an A in the class. I would take him again.
Great professor. Had him for two classes. Always willing to answer questions and explain.
Dr. Burbano is an excellent teacher. He has an accent, but once you get past it, he is understandable and can be funny. He provides very helpful notes, allows some note at test time, and, if you go to every class and do all the optional homework, there is no reason not to get a good grade in his class.
The first time in my life I got an A in math. Homework is extra credit and the reviews are exactly the same as the tests he just changes the numbers. He replaces the lowest grade with a 90 if you get a 90 on one of the tests. People who complain are immature and lazy. his accent is thick but so what, get used to it do the work and you'll be fine.
He's an okay professor. He's difficult to understand, talks in a monotone voice, and speaks super slowly. Reads off a powerpoint the entire class. Doesn't demonstrate anything. You have to learn on your own. he'll help if you ask, but only in person. never answers email. Gives a study guide before each test that mimicks the test. 4 tests.
Test made up of multiple choice only is not a good test. the teacher needs to develop a better understanding and deep knoweledge of Maths.
Gives exam reviews, that are helpful.
He is good at teaching and his test are not that much hard
Dr. Burbano is an amazing teacher who really cares about his students. he lets you leave to complete homework halfway through class. He has a strong accent but I thought he did a great job at explaining the material regardless. College algebra is never going to be easy, but with his practice tests which are the same as the exams it's an easy A!
Dr. Burbano is the best math professor i've ever had! he cares so much about your understanding of the material. He uses stat crunch and my mathlabs which makes it extremely convenient to do homework and get help online if you do not understand. I recommend this class to anyone that struggles in math. Love Dr. Burbano he is amazing!!
I have taken two classes with Dr. Burbano and he was amazing. The class may be boring but he helps you through it. The homework is online an dis counted as "extra credit." The test were just like the reviews. You are also allowed an index card. Best math teacher I have ever had.
He is a nice professor. If you have a question he's glad to help but honestly you will have better luck getting help from a tutor. Lectures and the text book are useless, I just did my homework in class. You basically learn from the homework (MyMathLab). Gives study guides that are almost exact to the exams. Easy A class.
He is a really caring teacher, and loves to help you get better. Wants EVERYONE to pass his class.
Droned on and on. Rushes through lecture. Not helpful. Need to teach yourself for the most part.
I was recommend to take him by a few girls in another one of my classes. You will use the online statcrunch software, but it's better than a TI calculator. If you attend his class, and (STAY) to watch him go over problems you will get a guaranteed B. He gives out practice problems before the test to prepare you for the real one, and will help.
Every class he lectured it looked like he was trying to teach himself as he was teaching class. He couldn't really answer questions without getting confused. There was a final paper that was supposed to count for credit but I never received credit for doing it. Overall this was a rough class...
Gets irritated very easily and very snappy with students, if you have any questions that are not an actual math problem, Such as a question about the class or a test. Lectures are very confusing and doesn't explain things very well.
For college algebra and his stats class, do the study guide before the review day, then pay attention as the exam has the exact same format. For stats, he tells you what to click to find every exam answer. Easy A for both classes.
Dr. Burbano was my favorite teacher ever. I took him for college algebra and stats and he's so nice and seriously caring. He funny and makes statistics enjoyable. Dr. Burbano just wants everyone to pass so as long as you show up, respect him, listen and ask questions you'll get an A. He also gives study guides almost identical to the test.
Gives practice test before test thats similar to test, just study the practice test the night before and youll pass, he answers your questions while your taking the test, wants all students to pass, I never write reviews so he was worth one
Definitely a really caring professor. Wants you to pass and will work with you one on one. Never been too good at math but I passed Algebra and Stats with him with Bs. *The study guides are exactly like the tests so study them.*
He explains everything and makes sure that you understand before you leave the class.
I took his Intro to Statistics class Spring 2019 and ended up with a high A. I don't think he grades attendance, some kids didn't show up to class at all. You don't use many formulas, it's all on stat crunch which makes it much easier and all his tests are multiple choice.
EASYYYY !!!! he only grades test, the review IS THE test. YOU LITERALLY CANT FAIL!! he will help you earn the grade you want. take him!
Dr. Burbano had clear expectations from day one and lays out what the course will cover. However, this class is mostly based online which is difficult to follow sometimes. The lectures are clear and attendance isn't mandatory.
Incredibly rude to students.
The lectures for this class are extremely unuseful. There is never a clear lesson plan and he also has no breakdown of grading. He loses train of thought very easily and looking around the class it's very clear everyone is confused. Although he will help you on tests, he's also temperamental and if you don't understand he will give up trying.
During COVID-19, F2F classes were canceled. Unlike every other professor who reached out within 2 days, I had to reach out after a week to get a pasted response that was useless. He never updated his course schedule after they extended the semester. I could go on but bottom line I encourage everyone to reconsider taking his class. No communication
Dr. Burbano was boring. Used BigBlueButton instead of Zoom, so face does not have to be shown. Had technical difficulties with the class and during tests. Just goes over the powerpoint that is in MyMathLab. Only 2 tests: midterm and final and HW. Make sure you know what you are doing, you basically have to teach everything yourself.
All assignments are on MyMathLab and on zoom he goes every most of the problems so you know how to do all of them. We use stat crunch for calculations, and it makes this class so easy. For the tests, notes were allowed. Easy stats class
Nice guy, I feel Burbano did the best he could (COVID related). He went over the types of HW problems we would see on MML. Midterm and final were both on MML, so don't rely on the study guide because it was not similar (use the hw for studying). HW is weighted a lot higher than tests, so if you do good on the HW you should be good.
His class is one of the toughest one; however, he is very approachable and willing to explain. You need to do the work prior to the exams to be able to pass with a good grade (not only do the study guide). You cannot procrastinate in his class.
The professor doesn't teach and uses old videos for us to understand the content which is stupid. To get an understanding of the concepts you have to look up other videos to help you out. The powerpoints he suggests are word for word from the book which you can just look at. Very lazy professor in my opinion.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've had. He doesn't do anything during lectures and does not explain how to do problems. The website he uses for meetings is terrible. You have to learn everything on your own and he doesn't care about that. Worst professor I ever had. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I took him for college algebra. He used a website different than zoom for his lectures, and at times we couldn't hear him. We'd often have to unmute ourselves and tell him we couldn't hear him. When people asked for help in class he will respond but it often isn't helpful because he literally read word for word from the textbook.
Horrible. Teachers are supposed to care about their students success. Having online courses are hard as it is with coronavirus. Man has strict policies with no help. Doesnt explain hardly anything. Do your self a favor and save yourself from failing, do not take his class.
Is incredibly monotone during lectures and reads verbatim from MML questions. Class gets excessive with formulas at a point but he still only allows a single index card for aide. The website he uses for online classes is abysmal. I can't tell if he's any better in person, but through online classes he's not stellar.
I loved him
Hey just reads a PowerPoint from the book. But he doesnt even explain it just point out a topic and says you can read it on your own time. Does not go over one example or teach you the concept. In my opinion his class is pointless. He doesnt even make his own PowerPoint he just gets it from the website you pay for. Dropped the class after 2 days.
He's a very nice guy, but he talks very slow and replies to emails late. If you take his class, be aware that you will likely be teaching yourself. Lectures feel like they take forever and you barely remember half the things you learn when the class is over.
Mr. Burbano is not that great of a teacher, he uses PowerPoint to teach and it is incredibly confusing. He tried to show us how to do the problems for the homework but he talks so slow it's easy to forget what he just said. Mr. Burbano does not go in-depth with his lessons which is extremely aggravating. Statcrunch is the only way you will pass.
He is very montone and reads off a powerpoint and he is not very good at explaining things so you kinda have to teach yourself but the class is super easy and we only had two exams all semester so pretty much an easy A
prof Burbando is a nice guy, hes super reasonable and cool but his lectures were slow and I rlly could not focus. My class was online so I was on BBB its not zoom but similar.. I went to tutoring every week to learn the material in the class. hard class but few tests just hw for grades. Do the hw and try ur best!!
Great professor
Very nice professor, however his lectures are very boring. Very fair - he bumped me up 3% to pass his class (I showed up to every lecture). Do your homework and pay attention (do homework assignment first and then ask questions during lecture) and you will pass the class. Material takes a lot of time to fully understand - DON'T PROCRASTINATE!
All assignments and tests on MyMathLab. Tests on proctorio (can use a ti-84 calc on tests). He is older and not very tech-savvy, but seems pretty nice. Not much interaction with the professor.
He realized that the PowerPoints were difficult for the class to follow so instead started having us do homework in class and helping us as we went. Made everything much more understandable and I was able to do all my homework in class. Helps you prepare really well for the tests and is very understanding if you need any help.
Burbanos a good dude. His lectures are honestly pretty boring, he talks in a slow monotone voice, but he goes over what he thinks is important and won't make you practice something that won't be on the test. Couple homework assignments a week. 2 tests (1 mid,1 final). watch the recordings in 1.5 speed rather than watching in real time(helps a ton)
if your last name starts with A-J you will have two less days to study for the 2 tests which is 80% of your grade. they have around 15 Qs so its hard to get good grades. does not respond to emails. and it is listed as online but is realistically hybrid you have to go to the calls bc the recordings will end before he actually explains how to do it
Not much interaction with the professor. He doesn't respond to emails. I've taken him twice now simply because I needed an online class and the assignments are from MyMathLab and not him anyways. He is older and not very tech-savvy, tests are proctored as well.
All homework assignments are done in My Math Lab, along with the two tests. Tests are proctored, so you have to have your camera on the whole time. Lectures are difficult to listen to, as he is very monotone. He is always open for questions at the end of class. He shows homework questions during class, which is helpful. Statcrunch is necessary!
Not an outstanding professor. Online lectures are redundant, you will have access to the same powerpoint he reads in a monotone voice for an hour. Does not respond to any e-mails, i recommend addressing any questions or concerns after lectures end. Will not allow you grace for final tests regardless of your situation.
