Easy professor, and easy class. Tests are straight from the notes, nothing new.

I had this guy stuttering and sputtering when we discussed some of the issues. He's neither a good lecturer nor that bright. How did he get a PhD?
he is a good teacher, you don't really need to buy the books, as long as you use the spark notes on-line(he has a link to them on his page). If you fail an exam he allows you to retest for a max grade of 75.
He a good teacher. You dont really have to attend class to do well. His tests come straight from the reading and notes, if you do bad on an exam he offers a retake for everyone. Hes pretty good as a whole
Incredibly easy professor. If you take his class in a triad, that is even better because you get a thorough review from Seminar leader Chloe Yowell before each test that completely makes up for not going to class. If taken outside, it would probably still be incredibly simple.
Dr. Huerta is great. Take his class if you want a fairly easy A or if you just like "Everybody Loves Raymond". Plus, he uses Macs!
EASY class. Straight forward tests that come straight from the notes. Can't stress enough how easy this class is.
Dr. Huerta was very simple. I did not have any problems with his tests. I would recommend this class to anyone that is not very interested in Political Science.
Doesn't really lecture. Just talks with students a lot.
His lecture helps you to understand a little more about what you read, however like someone mentioned all he does is talk with students. He does however put questions from the conversations in the exams. Exams straight from the notes.
Very easy class. Exam straight from lecture notes!
HE is boring but very easy

I loved this class! He was very into involving the class which makes his lectures easier to understand. His tests are very easy if you go to the review sessions! If you fail then he offers a retest for a 75 at the most! He's a great professor in my book!
Goes off topic alot, but very easy class!
The man speaks gibberish...Powerpoints have no information on them but on the brightside the tests are on WebCT and are open book open note, not like he could make us not use resources, we don't take the tests in class.
Dude, buy the books, bring your lunch, and get ready to do nothing in class! Sooo easy to sit there and let all the poli-savvy people do their stuff while you goof off or whatev! Too bad we did have to read to pass the quizzes....but it's not rocket science. And the Raymond thing? Crazy resemblence! Too bad he's not that funny....but who cares--the class is a breeze!
class is boing, lectures suck, too many students
Very awesome, lectures were kinda boring, but the class over all wasn't difficult as long as you showed up and did the readings.

Easy class... testing online...
You can tell he truly loves what he does. As long as you keep up with the reading and attend class regularly, you should have no problem at all. He doesn’t take attendance, and his tests are pretty straight forward. He tends to ramble a little in his lectures, but if you take good notes, you should have no problem.
class was horrible. want an A? just read the book. tests r a combo of the quizes. he dosn't take attendance. no challenge @ all. nice guy, but he doesn't seem to know too much about his field. how did he get his phd?
Read the book, because its hard to understand when he lectures. The subject material is really boring, and the quizzes are over the reading material. Even if you think you know the material, READ, because I promise you don't. Vocabulary definitions don't help either.
Great Professor. Tests and Quizzes are over the textbook material. READ!!! He hates talking/texting in class, and if you have a laptop, be sure you are only using it to take notes! He will make you put laptops and cellphones away or leave class if he sees them out. Very helpful to hardworkings students!
Easy lecture, gets off topic so much that he doesn't finish the actual content. Tests are straight from the book and online Americans Governing assignments, which are a waste of time. Terrible class, easy A.
Easy to get a high B Just do the Reading Reactions and Americans Governing assignments (they are easy) Then study his notes and reviews for test. He is a pretty cool guy, everything he does is to help us, for example, giving us time in class to share notes. Its very helpful. Take very good notes and pay attention and dont miss a class
I didn't go to his lecture about half of the year and I still maintained a high B average. make sure you are reading the chapters though because it is very easy to fall behind. and the online assignments will effect your grade more than you think.
I really enjoyed his class. He's very passionate about political science but is respectful of the students who aren't. I loved his lectures but missed a few and still got an A. He's very nice and understanding. Just do the connect assignments and go to SI sessions and you'll do great!
Lol I went to three classes the entire semester, and got an A in the class. Do your homework, go to Tricia's SI sessions and you will do fine
This class is so easy its boring. Dr. Huerta's lectures are very straightforward, but directly from a power point. His test are very easy and the online assignments are very easy.
prof is funny guy. he is always willing to help students. what really helped me succeed in his class was Tricia's si sessions. although class was boring at times, I would go to her sessions often, and she did a great job of helping us all understand what was going on in lecture. dr. huerta and tricia will make you love polysci!
Great professor. Funny and easy to understand. Go to class everyday, he gives examples that he puts directly on the test. Go to SI. If you go to class everyday and SI a few times before each test, you'll get an A.
Go to the SI sessions and you will pass the class. Honestly you don't have to go to class to pass the exams as long as you go to the SI sessions but he will put some stuff on the exam that he says in class. I had him my fall semester and took him spring semester by choice because I knew his exam and grading style. I definitely advise taking him
Be sure to go to class and pay attention to his lectures, as its pretty word for word on the test. He also hates phones so I would not recommend sitting in class texting the whole time. He is pretty awesome!
His class was so easy! Literally your whole class grade is not only determined by your exam grades, they're determined by the learnsmart grades (which are SUPER easy). DON'T forget to do those and you'll pass for sure. They're important. Exams are pretty easy if you study for them. Just look over learnsmart, it's also a great study guide.
This class was so cake. I didn't even go to the classes, just did learnsmarts and studied the day before the test and still ended with an A. The profes is super chill as well so don't trip if you need help.
Huerta is a fair grader who gives amazing lectures and will help you if you show that you need help. His tests include in class examples so go to class. He gives many tests so that you can have more grades. DO THE CONNECTS!!! They are worth more of your grade than all the tests. Great professor. Would take again. 10/10.
This professor had non mandatory lectures, a reasonable amount of homework, and clear tests. I only did my homework and did not do ANY extra studying, and had an A the entire year.
Dr. Huerta may seem a little odd or tough at the beginning, but he really does work hard to relate the boring material to our lives. His tests are heavily related on his lecture, so I would recommend going to SI. The best part of his class is he allows a full sheet (front and back) of notes for his tests.
Attendance is not mandatory, but does put questions on the test that pertain to examples we discuss during class. Has one reaction paper, but it's an easy 50 points if you answer all the prompts and tie it to the Interest Groups chapter. Funny and nice. Would take again and recommend.
HE WAS AMAZING, DEF RECOMMENDED
He was one of the best professors I ever take. However, you really need to study, attendance is not mandatory but you should attend for extra credits. One more thing, I was late final exam 40 minutes late, and I told I fall asleep while I was studying for his class, and he understood that and gave me extra time to finish the final
He is the best professor I've taken so far, he's very approachable, nice, caring, and mainly understanding. He makes his lectures interesting and fun to learn. I would definitely take him again. He has my respect. 10/10
Very approachable professor, clear grading, non mandatory attendance - however he lays everything in front of your for your exams. Highly recommend.
This class will for sure make sure you work for your grade you should for sure attend class because a lot of his lectures cover what will be on the test. His test correlate with his lectures and some what the book but make sure you know you definitions as well he does not give out extra credit and kinda rude in his office hours
He doesn't take attendance, but he says things during lecture that are put on the exams. 8x11 sheet of paper allowed for exams. Be sure to do the Mindtaps, or you will not pass.
His class was difficult, and a lot of assignments, but he makes it easy as much as he can. Also, one more thing, while taking his class I was late to final exam like 35 minutes, and he still let me to take the final exam
If youre not good with politics and how the government works, pay extra attention in his lectures and take notes! Never stop reading or you wont understand it either.
Great professor who really cares about his students and their success. Very knowledgeable on the subject and brings in real world examples into his lectures all the time. He tends to add questions on the tests that he discussed in lecture so even tough attendance is optional, make sure you always show up. Simple grading system: 900 points A 800B
Recommend this professor. Uses in class examples on his exams, so attendance is usually necessary if you want to make a good grade. Tests are extremely easy if you pay attention in class, allows one full page of notes front and back, for each exam. HW is once a week, extremely easy. No reason to not get a A or B.
Even though he loves to brag about the textbook "he wrote" (has a small part in it) he hardly even tests you over textbook material, instead every-other question on his exams are "as we discussed in class..". To make matters worse you can hardly even stay awake in his lectures. Would rather watch the synchronized swimming for four hours then show
be prepared to want to fall asleep every class. i would suggest bringing a monster or maybe some adderall because his lectures are so boring but everything he says is on the test. tests are barely about the readings but the mindtaps are so you have to read them (or quizlet) basically try not to die
Mindtap is required for this course, and a chapter is due about every week. If you want a decent grade, you HAVE to attend lectures! The exams have many in class examples. The exams arent too bad & you get to use a page of notes. In my opinion, he made lectures as interesting as they could be. The class itself is boring but he tried his best.
The MindTaps don't seem like much, but they will make up a HUGE portion of the grade. They're very difficult to make A's on. The SI sessions aren't required, but if you can't go, your grade will reflect that. My test grades took a 10pt hit between exam 1 and 2, then another 8pt drop between 2 and 3. This class was unneccesarily difficult. Avoid it.
The hw quizzes might seems hard but this is how you get a 100 every time: take it with 2 other people and look for the quizlets. you get two attempts so if y'all get a few wrong go over every question before the next person submits it. Go to class and take notes, tests q's come a lot from class. He is a good guy, try and you will do good.
Hes a really good professor. He spends most of his lecture talking which is fun because he just doesnt read off the slides (if that makes sense). Definitely would take a class with him again!!
Honestly the best professor I have ever had. I always thought government and politics was boring but he actually made it super interesting! He never read off of his slides and as long as you pay attention during lecture/take good notes you will do fine on the exam. He even got the prosecutor for Selena's trial to give a speech for us!
Good professor, tests are based off of his lectures (which he often makes note of letting you know what will be on the test). Homework is online and done by answering questions from textbook reading.
AMAZING professor. Lets you have a front and back, handwritten (single) page of handwritten notes on all exams, including the final. Hardest part of his class is probably the MindTaps, but take notes while reading chapters and you'll pass with flying colors. Even helps you get registered to vote, if applicable!
If you don't bring some sort of caffeine to in-person lectures, you WILL fall asleep. He's very informative on current events, but prepare to see things that are only discussed in lectures (and not on reviews) on tests.
He is awesome, take his class.
There are quizzes, which you get two attempts one by yourself and one with a group. Two tests, the mid term and final. And two essays, that he doesnt give much help with on the guidelines. His lectures are discussion based rather than informative based. You have to remember the discussions because they will be on the tests.
I finished with 88.7 I asked for extra credit or for anything to just get 1 more point and he wouldnt. His class is super boring so its insanely hard to pay attention and his tests are over what he says in class not the textbook.
Latinx politics was super interesting and the material was presented in a way that was relevant to events that were currently happening. He gives you plenty of opportunities to earn extra credit, and if you ever have any questions, he's happy to answer them. Tests are straight forward. Read the book, go to class, and you should be good!
His test did not make sense and half of what was on the test was not talked about in the lectures. I do not recommend him. He also does not round up grades.
So Huerta is not bad, but he is boring, and nothing that he talks about makes sense; most of what he says is really biased. one annoying thing is he will not stop talking about how he's like vice president of the political science committee in Montreal or something...? I don't know. If you are reading RMPs as I do, yes, you can sleep in this class.
The lectures are very boring and all the assignments are easy since you have multiple attempts, but the tests are a bit tricky since he includes questions that are lecture specific, otherwise it's easy to obtain an A if you do all the assignments
Honestly, if you want an A in this class, just go to the lectures and pay attention. The only hard part of the class was the exams and those are very easy if you go to class. Most people who did not go to class ended up with a B. So overall this class is very easy, just do your assignments and take notes and you will be fine.
Fun professor and I enjoyed his lectures! His exams go over a lot of what he talks about in class and not the actual textbook, so make sure you attend class.
Very unprofessional. Paints his political opinion as fact and shames the other side for believing differently. He consistently gets off track in the classroom and talked about his trip to Montreal for half the year. Does not round up grades no matter how close. I do not recommend this class in the slightest.
You sit in lecture staring at the same slide for the whole 1hr and 15 min and come exam nothing you are told to review is on the test
I took him Fall 2022 and honestly it was a waste of the time I was in class. the exams were okay but sometimes it would be based on the lecture but he didn't mention some of the stuff on the exam. He also missed class and had someone else teach us a lot of the time.
Dr. Huerta is a great professor. His lectures are clear and informative. Groups are formed weekly to discuss quizzes. The learning experience was good. Dr. Huerta is a very accomplished professor but is very humble. You will be glad you took his class.
He is an annoying professor. Has quizzes due at 8am and randomly assigns quizzes.
Be prepared for exams to be about nothing covered in class, i learned more this year about his trip to LA and his love for the dodgers. He also made us watch the Selena movie ( just for there to be only 2 question about her on the exam) He does not follow what is in the text book as well as he addresses the kids like children
Took 3 tests during the semester with each one having a class average below 68. The slideshows, lectures, and online work have nothing to do with the tests. Goes off topic a majority of the lecture, and struggles to cover the topics that are vital.
Very good professor, was really knowledgeable on the subject and had good lectures. Lectures are not mandatory but you will not do well if you do not attend because tests are based on lectures.
Great class, he knows what he is talking about. The lectures are heavy, and the exams are over what is talked about in class. If you don't go to class, you won't pass the exams. As long as you take notes and do the online assignments, it's an easy A.
I failed only one exam in his class and it was his first exam I found out the exams are mainly what he talks about and not what he teaches. I never failed an exam again but the first one cost me the A he also loves to talk about himself and his textbook. I never knew what to expect on his exam are class average was always failing
Make sure you go to lectures it's where 60% of the test answers are from. But he's super chill and funny and work with you if you need!
Prof Huerta is great! He was understanding and overall a really nice guy. He's very passionate about what he teaches. The exams are HEAVILY based on the lectures but he lets you bring a letter paper cheat sheet to the exam. I recorded all the lectures and wrote out his examples on my sheets and got Bs and As on exams where others were getting 40s.
I had Dr. Huerta for POLS and he was a great teacher. The content could be boring at times, so I did not attend every lecture. I still did great and kept up on my Cengage assignments. It was amazing when he brought in the DA who prosecuted Yolanda Saldivar at the end of the semester, and he spoke about the entire process for 2 lectures.
Assignments and quizzes are all on Cengage, and if you get a question wrong, it gives you another chance to get it right. Tests aren't hard if you pay attention to his lecture, make sure to write the examples he gives for certain topics down during his lecture. Allowed 1 sheet of any notes on exam day overall a really cool and interesting professor
GO TO LECTURES. If you miss one lecture, you will miss a lot. Overall a very passionate professor who knows what he's talking about and is very quick and helpful.
