Wonderful teacher. He wants you to succeed. Open book and notes when taking a test. Very helpful and more than fair. Does not like you to be late for class. He is easy to contact when needed. Earned an "A" in his class and you can too if you come to class, take good notes and study for every tests. TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!

Professor Catala is a nice guy, straightforward, always tells you what he wants. The class was easy, I never turned reports in early to him yet i still always got A's on them. Tests are long but open book; you should know where the material is in the book because tests are timed. If you are smart then you will pass easily.

This class must be taken very seriously if you're going to take it with this professor. The tests will be completely different from the online homework and quiz material, and that work is another story. As much as the professor and the class itself is interesting, you will fail if you slack at the least bit.

Professor Catala is very understanding and is willing to help you. This class is not a piece of cake though. You must study hard and not slack around or you will fall behind! Take this class seriously. It is not impossible though. Professor Catala will help you but you have to do your part as well and demonstrating you care about the class.

I can guarantee that you won't be able to find a hardest professor. However, it will also be impossible for you to find someone who knows more about physics than him. Lots of HW every week, very picky when grading, but extremely helpful too. He's a great prof. and most importantly he's a very nice person. I don't regret I took him.

Mr. Catala easy? No at all. But he loves to challenge his students in excess; after all, you will get with him the knowledge that you need to be a better student.

Physics is hard but he has a grading system that if you do hw quizzes and warm ups + 100% attendance which allows you to take a 5 point extra credit assignment and 60% on average test the grade should not be less than a B. I really enjoyed this class. I recommend him, don't be afraid and give him a chance. I don't regret taking him!!!

If you take this class with Catala, your every Friday will be devoted to 20+ homework problems, and every Sunday will be a quiz. If you spend 4+ hours a week studying physics you can do well. Exam problems come almost straight out of the book, but that doesn't really help because the book has very hard question. At least he's friendly and helpful.

Dont know about the Leture Class But i had him for my Lab class and he was very helpful and the class and experiments were fun, as long as you do all your labs and understand it you should have no problems

Class is very hard but he is a good guy. His multiple choice is harder than free response because it can have more than one answer and up to 5 answers can be correct on one question. Gives a lot of hw but 50% of the assignments were online so you could fail all of the tests and still manage a b or c. Attendance is mandatory in order to get e.c.

His lectures are interactive with his class, and for the labs you are required to work in a lab group. Tardiness and Absences will affect you in the long run. Prof. Catala is a great professor. This is the second time I took PHY1004 after having to withdraw with another professor and this time I did 100 times better. Tough Tests. Homework is 50% of your Total Grade. But there's a lot of it. Super personable. Cares about knowing his students. Helpful, if you have a question then ask him. And will always help you with your grade if you are borderline. It's Physics 2048 so it isn't too hard, just make sure to do your HW. One of the tests is usually online.

His lab is pretty straight forward. Weekly labs and lab reports due a week after the lab takes place. A decent lab report would take anywhere between 3-6 hours to complete and if you put in that much work you'll get an A for sure. Grading criteria is straightforward and will offer extensions on due dates if asked. Will really help you out.

Catala is by far one of the best professors I've ever had, and is actually a physicist. His lectures are well-prepared, entertaining, and thought-provoking to wider subjects in physics. If you expect to absorb the material just because you're sitting in the class, then seek a different major; but if you truly want to learn, take his class.

Catala is a good man and a great professor. The Tests are worth a lot. Even though I didnt do so well on them I still passed the class with a B. I was surprised. Anyways, be sure to answer and complete all assignments on time.. ALL. And you get the benefit of extra credit IF you have 100% attendance. Good luck.

prof Catala is a good professor. he's a little intimidating at times but he's cool. yes, his tests are hard but he does provide study guides and usually uses the same questions from the study guide but with different numbers. he gives you plenty of chances to do well in his class. so do what you need to do and you'll be fine.

If you're actually interested in physics, or if you seek to acquire a solid foundation in physics for engineering then this is the best professor at Miami Dade College to take; at least at the North Campus, I'm the familiar with the physics professors at the other campuses.

A rewarding class if you're willing to work hard. Catala is hilarious, knowledgeable, and professional. However, don't take this class if you care about your GPA. He believes that knowledge matters more than grades, and his grading style reflects that. His tests are very challenging, and if you don't do the weekly homework you WILL fail.

I took Catala's class for the intro class, phy 1+cal, the labs and phy2+cal with labs. So more or less I know how his class. works. You want to pass his class? Do ALL the homework correctly on time. STUDY for his test. And do ALL his extra credit. Most importantly. NEVER GIVE UP. Fail the first test? Do better next time. But in stay in his class.

It was a six weeks class. I cried for it, work hard for it but it worth it. He gives extra credits in class and at the end of the semester. Pro Catala, is the best I took his class for PHY1004/L he was GREAT!!!!! He gives you time to write notes also but up videos on canvas so if you miss class you can go back and watch it. He is always willing to help you if you don't understand the equations. He also makes the best coffee!! The hw is a lot so be ready to use your notes from class.

I took Catala for PHY2053 lecture and lab. I am planning on taking Physics 2 with him also. Highly recommend taking nothing lab and lecture with him, the classes intersect and taking one helps you understand the other. He is test heavy but gives you chances to improve your grade. Your lab group will make or break the class. There is a lengthy lab report every week but doable. Go to his office hours! He will make time to help you and check your work. To give an rating for anyone wanting to take him for Mechanics (PHY2048) Catala is for those who want to learn physics to the best degree. He yells to alert you, he's harsh to train you, and he's abstract to open your mind. As, he ALWAYS does the rationale of the concept from scratch and creates informative demonstrations of the topic in class.

READ THE SYLLABUS. Professor Catalá actually cares about students learning and growing. The class is rough NGL, and it will take a LOT of your time, but it is what you need as a STEM major. Go to his office hours, get the PDF book or read the book on Pearson, do the extra credit. Don't take him without a good base on CALC 1.

Catala is the kindest, most caring person I've ever met. He did everything he could to help me get through the class with him. The other reviews are right that it's a difficult class, but that's because it's physics, and physics is difficult. He really cares about his students and I wish I could take him again. I'm not a physics guy and I struggled a lot but he helped not only me but the whole class giving chances, AI-enhanced retake, and many extra credits. It's physics; class is gonna be difficult either way. Though I only had him for this class, I'm gonna miss him.

Okay honestly, he's great and very head strong. At times it was difficult to keep up with him but he's very nice and tries to assist you. His exams weren't easy but he lets you have flash cards and give a lot of extra credit opportunities.

He's a good person, and he helps you raise your final grade at the end of the semester. His two final exams are difficult, and the lab reports can be complicated and confusing, but I would still recommend him, he's better than many professors.
