Very nice teacher..always willing to help out!
Excellent english teacher. Will keep you engaged in interesting discussions. After the discussions, writing on topics is a breeze. Expects high quality of work. Coasters beware.
His class is very easy. All you do is write essays and he lets you rewrite them as many times as you want until the last week of the semester. Sometimes he has discussions about a topic that has nothing to do with what we are writing, but when it has to do with what we are learing it is very thurough and it will be easy writing the essays.
Flores is a very, very hard grader. His voice is very monotone, and he jumps around from subject to subject and expects you to know everything in the end.
Very good guy. Passionate about writing/literature. Don't expect to get what he's saying. He dissects literature on a really deep level (i call it over-analyzing...). Essay prompts are very vague.
He is an interesting professor. I took him for comp 1 and 2 and got an A in both. He is very vague and does jump from topic to topic, but his class is pretty easy and he is very helpful if you take the time to go to his office and see him. He does expect you to analyze at a deeper level, but he knows what he is talking about.
I loved this class. What an intelligent man! He does jump around, but that made it all the more stimulating. He will help you in anyway he can. The rewrites can be a life saver. I would take him again and again and again!!!
juan was very interesting, I can tell he loves to teach. He expects students to interact in class, so if you are a shy person be aware!
Flores is very experienced and passionate about English. All paper writing all the time, but this is an english comp class after all. He's always willing to help, and by the end of the semester you will have learned a great deal of writing techniques. Not a tough grader if you show you're making an effort. Be prepared to write your booty off!
He was a great teacher, he lectures daily and if you pay attention and do the essays you will pass the class. He puts alot of thought into every conversation he has with you so be prepared to think about different meanings for evrything.
I took Flores for both Comp I & II. He truly is a fantastic teacher, and it ALWAYS willing to help you. He does expect you to visit him during office hours, and will always answer questions. He does allow rewrites on papers, until the end of the semester. In C.I we did not crack the book once, whereas in C.II we used it each class period.
To this day, he is still my favorite English teacher. I like the fact that the course work was challenging. In order to get an A, you had to put some effort. Don’t be discouraged by that, because the class was very fun. He also took the time to have class in a different environment. I would recommend him any day!
Mr. Flores is probably the best english teacher I have had in a while. He's a challenging teacher but he inspires creative thought and learning and I'm really glad that I decided to take his class.
Great teacher his is very understanding and helpfull. He is my favorite teacher if their is some problem with geting the assinment in on time he will work with you.
Professor Flores will help you with your papers and tell you exactly what he wants. If you show effort and ask him for help he will see you are trying and give you better grades.
He's an OK teacher. Really wants you to think outside the box, which is great. His assignments are kinda wacky, but if you take it literally for what it's saying, you'll be OK. Extremely helpful.
Mr.Flores is a GREAT teacher. Just as others have said, GO TO HIM...He expects that. The students who frequently visit are the one's who get the A's. He is a funny teacher who will push you for the best....But definately worth it
Professor Flores is a brilliant man! He's also a very interesting person to have a discussion with. His essays are challenging, but not impossible to receive an A on. Being creative is key. He doesn't assign much homework... if any. Overall, it's a good class to take if you're a creative thinker/writer.

Professor Flores is an excellent teacher. He is very helpful. I like the fact that if you turn your papers in on time he will allow you to rewrite them. He does take a while to grade papers. I do not recomend him if you are bad at writing. If you are good at writing I recomend him for Composition.
I really enjoyed Juan (Mr. Flores) He will push you to do your best, maybe even help you go farther then you ever thought you could. I really found alot out about myself in his class, and look foward to Eng II with him in the fall. Hopefully he will read this and have some insight into his paper.
Juan is really an incredible professor. His constructive criticism has really benefited my writing, and the in class discussions really do challenge the students. I would recommend this class to everyone.
good teacher, will work with you but comp class is difficult. i recommend this teacher if you are wanting a challanging comp class. this teacher goes really deep into things and is sometimes difficult to understand

Juan his class is not hard its funny, he wont remember your name he will make one up for u. hes tight as hell. first essay is after 3 weeks. i failed his calss on purpose to take it again. nah just joken. but awesome teacher.
His class was an eye opening experience for me. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for this teacher. I was not fond of comp especially literature prior to taking his class. Hands down the best professor i've worked with thus far.
This teacher will encourage and inspire you to think "outside the box" so to speak. Hands down the most enlightening class i've taking thus far. Juan will work with you as an individual and he will show you what it takes and what he expects to make an A. I think the difficulty of his class varies with the performance of each individual.
I really like this class. I actually like coming to this class. He keeps it interesting. And if you ever have any questions he is there to help you like all of the time. At least it seams that way.
funny guy
Highly recommended by other professors. He allows rewrites if essays are submitted on time, but also assigns weekly essays as well as 4 main essays expecting 400-800 words on the weekly ones. He gives harsh criticism, but with good intention. He is a little spacey and forgetful and wants you to think about everything to the point of over analysis.
400-800 word essays on a weekly basis (only worth 10 points each which u get for writing ANYTHING).....ARROUND FIVE 800 WORD ESSAYS...DO GOOD ON THOSE YOU PASS....UNLIMITED REWRITES--THO HE TAKES ABOUT 2WKS TO GRADE A REWRITE....THATS IT! havent used the book yet couple months in
I love this guy, but he's a little out there.
So much writting with this class, but your writting really improves. Just make sure that you have enough time to write all of his essays. We had once a week essays and 5 bigger essays. The smaller ones you could pretty much B.S. them and get your ten points, but onthe bigger essays you should put alot more thought into, overall great teacher.
Fun Class. everyone should take his class EVERYONE!!!!!
The best teacher I have had in my life; if you show you care, he will too -- pay attention, take notes, read some on your own, and you will do fine.
LOVE THIS GUY! Best Comp teacher ever. Had him for both ENCs. Do the weekly assignments & essays he assigns youll get at a B. Hes willing to work with you so you get an A. One of the only teachers I know who cares so mucha bout a student. AND Juan remembers your name and makes an effort to say hi to even when you no longer have him for a teacher.
I took him for 1101 and 1102. If you are looking for an easy class then dont take him. But if you want to be challenged and actually think, then take him. He is always making you try harder and pushing you to better your style of writing.
At first I disliked this course but grew to appreciate it because of his enthusiasm and his encouragement for his students to think. I took this course online and he gives you plenty of time to complete each module (about 2 weeks). He's very helpful and encourages students to stop by his office.
Professor Flores seems to be everyone's favorite professor, but I saw him quite differently. He sent out an e-mail to every student stating that everyone's writing was nauseating and that he had irreversible brain damage from reading our essays. I need a professor who will motivate me, not discourage my efforts.
took him online, great teacher, gets back to you quick if you have a question. essay due everyweek, but it is not hard at all. outstanding teacher
This professor was so rude. When ever I wrote an email he was so unhelpful. I am a very intelligent student and always try my best. I made sure to get flores at my teacher cuz i heard great things, but they were lies. Trust me when i say this, STAY CLEAR OF THIS CLASS. He grades sooo unfairly. I have never tried so hard and been graded so poorly
Best Comp teacher there is at SPC! Don't listen to others that don't understand him. If you want to have fun and learn take Juan.
great teacher. if anyone needs this book i can sell it for you. it is LANGUAGE OF COMPOSITION AND THE LITTLE BROWN ESSENTIAL HANDBOOK. if interested email [email protected]
You can b.s. your way through his class ... you might have to. If he doesn't agree with your opinions, he might grade you unfairly. He's not a good choice if you're stubborn about your opinions. You have to write a lot in his class too. Personally,I didn't like him. I got a B in his class. I'd recommend Ned Johnson instead. He's great!
Not a good class to take if you expect to learn anything, Most of our days were spent watching youtube videos, Seems like a nice guy but not a good teacher
Interesting. He definitely writes his own rules (min. 300 wd paragraphs), but once you learn them, you should do fine. Just forget them when the class is over! Very liberal, and the reading and writing assignments reflect this - many abstract topics. Only take this class if you are a good arguer and a good writer already (skills you'll need.)
Never used the book, don't bother wasting your money. This guys excentric to say the least, he's out there. He's a nice guy, lots of writing in this course, but not too tough. Never really HAD to go to class. All essay's turned in online.
Have points to support your ideas, and he can understand where you are coming from. Great guy, my favorite teacher ever. Visit office for as much help as you need.
I don't know why people say he's a bad teacher, he definitely isn't. Not an extremely hard teacher if you know how to write decently, he's not going to accept you saying "In my opinion" and "I think" etc. His class wasn't boring because he talked about interesting topics, but you didn't really have to show up. Hardly used text, 4 big essays, 1 fina
He's a really nice teacher and very helpful. You just have to know how to write well and be able to put together a well structured piece and you'll be fine.
If you're an unusually lazy student, this class is not for you. However this is not always a bad, If you're in college to learn like I am, you'll love Juan. He's helpful, interesting, knows the material, and lenient within reason. I HIGHLY recommend Juan as your Composition professor and I will be taking Comp II with him in the fall.
Love this guy. Took him for both comp1 and comp2. Enjoyed every moment of every class. The most inspiring teacher i've ever had.
juan is the man. his classes are difficult but you learn a lot. he teaches you how to think abstractly. if you enjoy writing take his class for sure.
Juan is awesome. He is always looking to help students. Juan really makes sure that students leave his class with an understanding of writing good essays. This professor makes class fun and upbeat while still teaching.
Professor Flores' (which by the way he doesnt prefer- likes Juan) Comp II class was the first class I decided to take to complete my AA after a 20 year hiatus. This was by far the best class to take to get back into the swing of things. He was very helpful and fair when it came to assignments and essays, but you will have to work in his class!
Great Professor! Although he demands critical thinking out of all his students, individuals who know how to analyze literature will make it through the class with a well deserved A.
he is a good professor but not for enc1101. i took his class online and the class is more like a mix of humanities and comp2. he does not teach what actually needs to be taught in comp1. he goes straight for the essays. if you want to learn grammer and sentance structure, as you are SUPPOSED to in comp1, then dont take his class for comp. worst!
Juan is an awesome professor. He likes to go in-depth with theme and iconic meanings. By the time you finish the class I guarentee you will be able to write any type of college essay! I am going to become a Dr. and what I learned in his class is in-valuable and will help me for years to come! And he totally doesnt mind helping anyone out with work
Juan is a great guy. However he is difficult for ENC1101, he focuses on art analyzing and his class focuses more on humanities. Look for another instructor for 1101 unless creative writing is your forte.
Juan is an awesome teacher, and is truly passionite about his work. However, the workload in his class is very large. No easy A here. If you are looking to improve your essay and writting skills, then this is the class. If you just want to get through English Comp, then I suggest looking elsewhere.
Juan is an amazing person and teacher. Some of the comments have stated a lot about the workload of the class. This is college people! If life were easy we would all be sitting on a beach somewhere, but instead we are all here with the same goal, to graduate. Why not learn something in the process. If you are ready to learn, Juan's class is for you
Great class, educational, challenging and fun.
You will work hard, but end the semester with new skill of essay writing.
AWESOME teacher. he really loves what he does and you can tell that in the class. in 1102 i wrote 3 papers and the final was overall theme of stories you read ( pretty easy!. read some SHORT stories over the weekend and EASY tests the next day. OVERALL i would HIGHLY reccomend this teacher to anyone. you will NOT fall asleep in his class trust me!
Juan is the man when it comes to learning writing skills, yes he is a bit of an overkill in the reading assignments, but when it comes to his essays you will kill them and make that A+ your looking for, he does give extra credit, but use them at the right time, you can pass with an A as long as you work hard, worth the extra effort in class!
I took Juan Flores for comp 1&2 and he is an amazing teacher. Its beyond the reading and writting, a lot of analyzing involved and a lot of critical thinking. Keeps the class interesting! He is fair when he grades and very helpful when you need it.
Very passionate about what he teaches. Very nice and understanding- will give you chances to correct your mistakes and earn a good grade if you try.
Love Mr. Flores. He is always willing to work with you during and after class. His class has nothing to do with puncuation. His class is about thinking deep thoughts and writing them down. He is very passionate about what he teaches you and will expect you to learn. He will give you many chances if you see that you are trying.
Prof. Flores was an inspiration. His class opened my mind in so many ways and made me a better student overall. I will always sign up for any class he offers.
Highly recommended if you want to broaden your mind and give A work! Not only is this professor "professional", he is very understanding/fun/kind and true to his students/teaching. You will learn more than expected and become an academic journalist very quickly if you follow his guidelines. This is not a class for lazy students!
Mr. Flores is the best professor. Very passionate about what he teaches. I recommend this class 100%.
You show up to class... you participate in really good discussions... He tells you how to write... you do it...You get an A. This is a great college class, do what he says and you will get an A. Don't be lazy or it will haunt you...Read the stories he says!!! One of the best professors at SPC
A truly enlightening experience. I had a blast learning from Juan, as well as with him. Class discussions were nothing short of intellectually stimulating and plain ole' amazing! Juan's interactive class discussions made our learnings of literature analysis almost too easy!
Took me two days to notice he is very much into psychology, and that is why he makes an amazing comp teacher. He taught me life interpretations, writing techniques, and how to improve in my academia overall. His class was not as hard as people insist--write a few essays, read several short stories/plays, and check angel often--thank you Flores.
Juan will keep you on the edge of your seat when he speaks! He is creative and an amazing Professor. Take him he is the best there is!
Awesome professor! Very interesting lectures. Fair with grading, allows rewrites.
Great teacher. You stay busy but the assignments are pretty interesting. I would say I spend more time on his assignments than other classes. Took his class online. Able to get a high A, but I can see others are pulling lower grades. I don't see how. If you are trying at all you should be able to get a good grade. Nice guy too!
You know those professors you come to love not only because they stimulate and provoke your mind but because there an awesome person! Thats Mr. Flores. This class opens your mind to propaganda, the human condition, all sorts of great subjects, the readings are fascinating! TAKE DR. FLORES!!! Unforgettable class
I took Juan's comp 1 class online. I liked that his entire semester workload is consistent and even. There were a few times where his suggestions on essays were a bit vague, but that's true for a lot of writing courses. Overall, it was an enjoyable semester and I would recommend him for anyone needing to satisfy this course.
Flores is absolutely amazing!! I loved his classes. Took him for comp 1&2 and he always keep class interesting. Do his work!! Its interesting enough were you would WANT to do his assignments. Strongly recommend. No one like this man!!
Prof. Flores was my motivation to come to school! His class is provoking and philosophical in that we all participate and have open discussions about material! UNFORGETABLE!
great friendly person inside and out of the classroom. spends alot of outside time in his office on campus for your convenience always willing to help
From the second he walked in the door I knew this guy was going to be a great teacher. Just the way he carried himself inside/out of the classroom. His use of examples was bar none! Taught me more in one semester than I learned throughout my entire high school career. Very passionate, hands on, caring. Always there to help and get you motivated!!!!
I LOVED this class. Never a dull lecture, extremely helpful in every way! I gave it a 3 for easiness because it is not supposed to be easy!! Professor Flores rocks!! I highly recommend him. He is very fair!
Awesome Professor! Loved the group discussions. I actually was very excited to attend class, each day was very interesting.
I took Professor Flores online my first semester of college. He was a great first professor to have! He portrayed such a great personality on the online class, which you don't get very often. I ended up taking his psych/lit class the next semester and enjoyed that just as much. So full of life and truly inspiring!
Juan is one of the best teachers at spc. You will cover all topics and talk about some deep stuff in his class. Gives alot of writing but grades fairly on all assignments, and just want you to think and try hard. Loved going to his class. Took the class with my younger brother and we both enjoyed it.
He may seem mean but he's not. It's funny cause he's philosophical. I thought I was going to fail & I ended up getting an A. I was confused on some assignments but I went to him especially for the essays. If your having trouble then you need to go to him and he will help you. Respect him and the class, do the assignments and you should do fine.
He bounces from one idea to the next, and that's amazing to watch! But I know what he's doing! He's looking for a topic to write on! When I realised that, I began to smile in his lectures! This guy works from the cuff! I loved it!
Juan is amazing-the best professor at SPC and probably the best in Pinellas county. His class makes me want to come to school, and once I'm there I don't want to leave! The entire class is usually deep, philosophical discussions, instead of a lecture. Juan challenges you to think critically and evaluate. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Very interesting individual but does require a lot of writing.
Juan is a great professor!! I loved writing before his class, but I have improved and grown as a writer. His class is amazing and I would recommend for college freshman to take it with him!! You'll love him. He is a unique teacher and his way of teaching is perfect!
Juan Flores expanded my horizons on every level. I highly recommend taking comp 1 with him. You will not regret it. Average amount of writing, but interesting topics. :)
he is easy going guy. answers all your questions.
This is the 2nd class I've had him for and Juan is quite possibly the best teacher I have had. He is passionate and enthusiastic about what he teaches, invites energetic discussions, and genuinely cares about his students. There will be no regrets if you take one of his classes. Easily one of the best!
Juan is one of the best teachers i have ever had. There is a 600 word theme pieces every other week and 4 800 word essays. It requires much analysis to get a good grade. He kept class interesting and i looked forward to going. GREAT TEACHER!!!!!
Juan Flores is such a great professor! Keeps the class very interesting and is a very fair teacher! 600 word weekly theme every week and 4- 800 word essays!
he is OK, he tries to give a lot of assignments to make you a better. bad thing he does not give you any chance to rewrite your paper.
I wish that Juan would get a degree in every subject because he is seriously the perfect professor! He is so wise, and yet so humble. He is very willing to consider things that are contrary to what he believes and he really makes an attempt to make everyone feel catered to! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Teaches outside the box! Makes you want to learn and question things in constructive ways. Juan should be the president of the college, he is a amazing person that is wise and kind. A true "gem" at spc. Lucky to have had the privilege to take his classes
Took professor Flores (insists that you call him Juan) for 3 classes: ENC 1101, ENC 1102, LIT 2120. Can't say enough nice things about him and he was easily the best instructor I've had at SPC. Involves you in the learning process and very lenient on due dates and helpful. Makes writing less painful with the interesting topics for essays.
So many positive things to say about this man, where do I even start!? He is so humble, funny and willing to help. Managed to make every single week interesting. Always provides comments on how you are doing. I learned so much and I am very happy with my experience. Take Professor Flores, I guarantee you won't regret it!
Dr. Flores is an OUTSTANDING professor he doesn't treat the class like just another college semester he really cares about his students. His advice is knowledgeable and influences you to continue to do a great job after his class. Weekly discussions are easy and the syllabus is outlined for whats needed to pass. GREAT PROFESSOR I RECOMMEND HIM ;-))
For comp 2, definitely best teacher to take. You earn good grades by showing him you care in class, always show up and contribute to the discussions. Essays are fairly easy, he will help you a lot. Provides great feedback, overall I really recommend you take him!
Read and write every week. Essays are okay if you're organized and you deeply analyze the story. You can rewrite the first essay if you drastically change it. The 600 words you write each week are worth 20% of your grade and each essay is worth 20% of your grade.
Professor Flores will help you improve your writing abilities through lots and lots of practice This is a true college level composition course. He's an awesome teacher who will do whatever he can to help his students succeed. Great guy! Take him!
I thoroughly enjoyed the class discussions. He has high expectations, so come to his class to actively participate and produce quality work. He taught me to dig deep within the stories where there is form and dimension. I am a better writer because this professor. He is truly passionate about writing and analyzing essays, poems, plays and movies.
Wow Professor Flores.. Where do I start.. Amazing Professor.. He will teach you how to write with alot of practice.. At first I was like what have I gotten myself into. Weekly theme pieces and 3 Formal essays.. However it was not only fun and intresting.. He taught me alot about writing and about myself really.. I cant wait to take him in Comp II.
Professor Flores is a great teacher. I adore his enthusiasm and drive for the subject he teaches. I would recommend him to anyone!
I loved taking this film class with professor Flores. I've been in four of professor Flores classes now and his teaching never gets old! Ill will take Juan for every class I can because I learn something new about myself every class. There is reason his classes fill up so fast! Teaches outside of the box and will expose you to crazy awesome films.
Flores is an awesome teacher. He is very passionate and cares about his students. You will never have to write a paper on a boring subject. Grading is a little tough sometimes, but only fair. He learns his students and expects different things from every student. Engages in critical thinking discussions instead of lectures. Loved attending class
All i can say is take Juan for FLIM CLASSES!!!! they are EPIC and will open your eyes to the way movies are filmed and how plots unfold.... Juan makes you think outside the box always... if you need a fun elective and enjoy movies this class is for you!!! enroll and enjoy this class... also bring the popcorn and sodas
I would say professor Flores is the best teacher so far I have come across. The best thing is to do that keep up with your weekly themes and essays.Better to clarify the mistakes if you received lower grade in his assignment. Though he is a tough reader,at the same time he is an honest, too. Try to impress him from starting of the semester.
Professor Flores is a great instructor. Juan is energetic and enthusiastic but this makes him hard to follow sometimes, just try and keep up. Even though attendance is not mandatory try to attend everyday, this way you can keep track of due dates and assignments. It requires two textbooks for this class but he only uses the Mercury Reader.
Juan has been my favorite professor while in college. He is so helpful and pushes you to your potential. He has made me open my eyes to what I am capable of. As long as you participate and show you are interested you will do great in his classes! Take him, he is the best!!!!
Professor Flores is hand down the best professor I have ever had! He expects nothing but the best from you and is there for you when you are struggling. He gives feedback that you need, you just need to be able to write well organized papers and you will for sure pass this class!
He is the best for both English Compositions. I know he is a tough grader, but as long as you show up with the hard work, you won't get any trouble. If you start receiving lower grades on your assignments, please ask him what he wants from you. Be specific, once he starts believing in your paper, no worries till the semester end.
Professor Flores loves what he does and is very inspiring. Literature is not my favorite subject, but he makes is stress-less; I have taken him for both comp classes. Attendance is not mandatory, but recommended because you gain a lot from the discussions that occur. Interpretation is necessary, but this allows for opinion which he is for.
Slow grader but GREAT professor. Incredible feedback, you feel like he actually cares and doesn't just slap a grade on. Took online for comp 2. Super nice and great attitude. A LOT of writing though but that's just the class. Love love love!
Great professor. Took him for Film History and loved it. If you enjoy watching movies, then you'll like this class. Easy A as long as you do your work.
One of the best professor's at St Petersburg College. Lectures were always interesting and so were the topics of the assigned essays. Professor Flores was very helpful and offered rewrites on papers to help improve the quality.
I took his online class and I wasn't impressed. He gave poor feedback and took weeks to correct the papers. He may be a great professor if you take a face-to-face class, but I wouldn't recommend him for an online class.
Juan's class was truly fun and interesting. He is very engaged with his students. I turned in all of my essays in like a week late (3 essays, 1 final in class essay, little class assignments that I never did) and still got B's on them. He grades easy, if you reach word count you will get at least a C. He made me a better writer. Doesn't take atten.
All around one of the best teachers I have ever had. As long as you are active in the class and read your assigned books, you will do fine. Be prepared for critical discussion, and if you say something be prepared to defend your idea with facts from you reading and other sources. I'm really just sad that I have no more classes with him. Must take..
Juan Flores was AMAZING! He completely changed the way I read, write and even watch movies! He nurtured deep, creative thinking and had a gift for drawing out even the most reserved students and making them feel like their opinion mattered. This was not an easy class, but SO enriching! Take Juan Flores!
All that you need to do to pass his class is show up and put a little effort into writing the essays.
Great teacher. Really challenges you for the simple fact that he wants you to become a great writer.
He helps students improve their writing. His classes are very philosophical and he encourages critical thinking as well as thinking outside of the box. He makes you excited about writing, which is difficult for a professor to do.
He is the best professor I've had yet! He is very clear in what he asks for and made the class very enjoyable! It was a discussion based class and he takes interest in everyone's opinion in the matter being discussed.
I loved Professor Flores! He is very down to earth, and is a very forward thinker. His assignments were somewhat challenging in that you have to think outside the box. He scheduled the course week by week, so it is hard to plan far ahead. He recognizes this and if you ask for extra time EARLY and explain the situation, he'll give you more time.
He is a very nice guy and the class consisted of many intellectual conversations. However he frustrated me sometimes because he doesn't really explain his assignments all that well and I missed a few that I didn't even know he posted. He is very serious about literature & if he tells you to read something, READ IT
No matter a student's "strong" or "weak" subjects, Professor Flores is sure to do a thorough job in ensuring that all students are comfortable with the material being taught and grow as a writer, reader, philosopher, etc. Lectures are in-depth, involved, and always offer something for one to take away at the end of a class. Definitely recommend!
one of the best professor I ever had. Class is enjoyable and he is hilarious. assignments and essays are easy.
Overall I enjoyed Professor (Juan as he likes to be called) Flores' class. Lectures grew deep with discussion and guaranteed student participation which was great for discussing the literature. Each class was a bit unclear, papers are very particular, almost too specific. Still, you work for your grade and it's worth it if you put in the effort.
One of the best professors I ever had! Amazing, inspiring, and takes you to a place in writing that you only expect from an unversity professor would. I disliked writing a lot! But thanks to Professor Flores, I want to write and I feel confident I can handle it to the best of my ability. Do the work and easily pass!
Amazing teacher. A little scatterbrained. Just try to go for what he's asking for or you think he will like and you will pass. Be friendly and talkative.
Juan is the best teacher on the tarpon spc campus. Stop reading this and take him NOW!!! He makes you think outside the box and you'll look at things from different angles. I wish I could take him again or just sit down with him and have a beer and talk for hours. coolest teacher and grades super fair!
Professor Flores is very easy to communicate with and very encouraging when you have doubts. He lets you think outside the box and gives great feedback. He responds quickly to emails and never seems short or rude about any questions or help you may need. TAKE HIM!
I took a online class under Prof. Flores and I couldn't have asked for much more. He helps clear up questions and understands you're a human. He grades well, but doesn't grade too timely. I'd recommend him any day.
This was the best class I've taken at SPC. Professor Flores is a great teacher! Prepare to read and write. Weekly essays between 400 and 800 words. An easy A if you show up for class and participate in class discussion. I learned more than I thought I would and really enjoyed the lectures. Thanks again Professor Flores!!!
Professor Flores is a fantastic instructor for Comp II. Although you have to read, and you will do a lot of discussions, he makes the class interesting and really helps you improve your writing skills. He doesn't count attendance, but if you want to know what's going on, show up to class. All in all, he's an awesome professor
Really great professor. Really gets to know the students. If you try to get an A you'll get an A. The highest grade he gives is 96. Amazing lectures, discussion heavy. 10/10 would take again! Visit him in his office he loves students who visit him.
This isnt just a professor he will change the way you look at things for the rest of your life. He a professor that everyone should take and he opens you up for a new thought process, but you have to go to class and listen and think about what he says and teaches. go to class and you will pass 100% take him.
Flores is a good guy and all but his grading is a bit too specific. Never gives over a 95% and its really annoying that on my INTRODUCTION discussion post i got a 98%... How can one not score 100% on an introduction about themselves. Topics are boring and the stories he gives to read are all WAY too long and boring.
I took Juan for online comp 2 and I loved him! Obviously you have to write quite a bit but its comp people, what do you expect. Maybe 2-3 "large" papers (800 words) and 10 small (150-380) Overall amazing, inspiring teacher. Gives great feedback and makes sure you stay on track. Also, he is hilarious and understanding, I would 100% take him again.
Took Comp 1. To clarify what I mean by a lot of papers, he had these little essays we'd have to do each week for the first 4-5 weeks. Then we'd get a few more of those throughout the semester, but all together there were probably only worth between and 15% of your grade. Great teacher and very clear and I am taking his class again for Comp 2.
Best Professor in the world! He is absolutely one of my favorites when I was in community college! He helped me to believe I am a good writer again after a horrible AP Lit teacher in High School. Would absolutely recommend!
He is one of the best professors that I ever had! He is really caring and wants you to do great always. If you need help with the assignments, he is ready to help. Most of the class is based on discussions. There are 2-3 papers to write, but don't worry he will prepare you to write exceptional papers. He helped me improve my writing skills!
As long as you show up to class and complete the work you will pass. If an assignment Professor Flores assigns is too difficult he will provide help. Proffesor Flores really cares about each student passing his class, but you must put in the work. He is even willing to stay after class hours to discuss anything you might be struggling with.
He was a good professor because it was fairly easy to pass his class. He gave many assignments that would help boost your grade and he is an interesting nice guy. Sorta crazy in an awesome way.
this professor has been one of the best in my life. he has a positive and relaxed environment in his class. the professor helps a lot by providing you help and instant feedback on parts in your papers that need to improve.
Professor Flores is absolutely fantastic. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone. He truly cares about his students and will give you all the tools to make you become a good writer. As long as you do your work you will have no problem passing this class with ease.
Hands-down my favorite professor. Not only is he an incredibly easygoing and relatable person, but he goes out of his way to make his lessons interesting. He encourages thoughtful discussion amongst our peers which allows us to consider several perspectives for one topic. Very easy to speak to and very clearly wants all of his students to succeed.
Juan is one of the best professors at SPC. He wants you to really think critically about the materials you are learning in class. He is always available when you need him and he'll look over your paper & gives great feedback. He is really inspirational & funny.
Professor flores , though ive only had him a few weeks so far, continues to exceed my expectations for what an educator should be. Genuinely cares for his students. anyone taking his class will agree he is excited to give what he knows to you, not just lecture. overall great guy.
Amazing teacher changed the way I look at things in life! needs to teach as many classes as possible! he is truly great!
Great Professor currently taking his ENC1101. Will help you if you ask. Writing assignments there is quite a few but easy work, easy class to pass if you do the work and turn it in.
Professor Flores, while a very difficult professor, is fantastic. He will teach you to write the best that you possibly can. Be ready to write a WHOLE lot of essays though! Practice makes perfect.
Great Professor and will stay longer if you needed more help.
Looking for a professor that will help you one on one, and with anything on papers or anything, in general, this is the professor you want. Great teaching, lectures, and stories.
When I started the class, I had no clue what anyone was talking about. Now, at the end, Flores has genuinely changed the way I perceive things and absolutely made me a better writer. Probably one of the best professors you could ever take in an entire college career.
Never felt comfortable writing until i took his class. TAKE THIS CLASS! He will help you with your essays. Helps you to think about the topics. Allows rewrite on essay 1. Really cool person
Professor Flores is an amazing professor and wants you to pass. He gave great feedback and I felt like he truly appreciated the work I put so much care and effort into. He even went out of his way after the semester ended to help me. His class is very cool and Sci-Fi themed and the "textbook" was an anthology of SF stories-- so cool!!
prof flores is one of the best comp teachers i had him for comp2 blended. he just wants you to do the work
Flores is one of the best professors I have had so far. He opens up a new perspective for you, looks to help students succeed and is hilarious. You have to put real thought into your essays but he gives you the tools you need to achieve a great essay.
Not only is he a great person to be a professor, hes hilarious and compassionate giving life skills to use in other places etc, along with educating those who never wrote previously. his teaching style is universal and he is good at explaining things, all you need to do is turn in papers on time and show up to benefit from the whole class.
A great professor always respectful and ready to help if needed
Prof. Flores gives few assignments and a lot of extra credit opportunities. I am taking him again and do not know anyone who regrets taking his classes.
You read two LONG books every two weeks, once you have finished reading them you will do a discussion on it then an essay. The discussion are worth NOTHING but those essays are worth almost your whole grade.
Flores is a great person, however I hated taking his class. He graded every essay incredibly harshly and it's almost impossible to get an A on an essay. Maybe he's better with composition 1 but he assigns awful stories to read that are long and challenging. Also, he treats it like a literature class not a composition class.
Professor Flores is a fantastic Comp 2 teacher. You will learn to analyze works by authors such as Edgar Allen Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Weekly short papers (like 400 words) and 3 main papers (about 700). If you do the reading, work, and follow the super clear instructions, its an easy A.
Professor Flores is such a joy to be taught by; he's extremely cheerful and inspirational, he truly cares about his students. Decent amount of short stories to read and a decent amount of papers/writing assignments, but his minimum word count is never much, highest was 800 that I remember. Gives great feedback and makes you feel accomplished.
Professor Flores was a very good teacher. You will have to work for your grade, but he is probably one of the most helpful teachers I have had. I emailed him for more specifics when grading essays and he didn't have a problem answering any of my questions. Be aware that discussions were definitely not worth as much as essays. Take his class!
Professor Flores is a good person and cares about his students, but his class was not the easiest. He gave us new stories every two weeks where you would have a small discussion than an easy after. The stories were often very long and very strange. When he grades, he can be quite harsh, and it can also take some time to get a grade.
He is very flexible in grading, accepting late submissions, and providing comments that encourage you to do better in the next post. In order to get a good grade in his class, you have to do a thorough analysis of the characters' personalities as well as delving into the origin of the tragedy of the characters, not just merely retelling the stories
This class was an absolute nightmare. If youre not a strong writer dont even think about it. His instructions arent clear. 95% is the best hell give for his 800 word essay assignment. His course layout is all over the place. Not worth the stress and struggle.
There was a significant amount of work but it would have been manageable if it was more organized. I was constantly searching to figure out what was due when. He is also a very harsh grader but doesn't give good feedback. I was always told that my work or just average or slightly above average. However, I was not given feedback to improve.
After taking Professor Flore's class last semester, I feel confident in my writing. He really teaches how to write a good paper and focus on what is important. Now in my psychology class this semester I am receiving 99-100's on my papers. I highly recommend this professor.
I loved professor Flores! Such a kind and funny man. You can tell he really wants to help you pass the class and gives you lots of opportunities for help and reviews. Online classes were fairly short, and hour max. His feedback is extremely detailed and super helpful. I really recommend his class!
Hes the best professor I ever had hands down! Do your work and its an easy A! He lets you submit late assignments without any penalty and he will help you as much as you can.
If you prefer detailed prompts when writing a paper, DON'T take this professor. His prompts are very basic and offers almost no direction. There's four major papers including the final. That being said, he's probably the best lit professor I've had so far and gets you to really think about writing and analyzation in general.
The assignments were interesting but the professor has very poor feedback. The way he speaks doesnt sound appropriate. Instead of helping properly, he insults me. He probably does this to other students too. Also, I never get an A or a B on any of my essays no matter how hard I try.

At first I was a little on the fence about Professor Flores but I ended up really liking him. I feel like he's made me a better writer overall. He does grade kind of tough but nothing impossible. There are usually two assignments a week and three big papers that will account for 75% of your grade.
It started off well and I loved his personality, but at the end not only does he grade with the harshest scale possible, using cuss words on feedback is very unprofessional. I'd rather get feedback than be insulted. He acts like this is a doctorate class when in reality its composition. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Class is definitely on harder side. If you are not a good writer already do not expect to do well. He doesn't believe in giving 100% as grade. There's a lot of papers, but he will give deadline extensions if needed. Many stories to read, get ready to read and analyze in class, he will call on you. As long as you have good analysis, you'll be fine.
professor flores is a great guy, and has good intentions. he is a hard grader, and his feedback is definitely blunt, but dont take it to heart. if you arent good at writing, do not take this class. he helped me improve as a writer a lot, and his lectures are fun and interactive.
This is the second time I've taken Professor Flores' class, and he is by far the best professor I have ever had. He has made me such a better writer, and if you take him your writing skills will definitely improve, and you will learn useful things. I wish all professors were like Juan, and I'm so glad I took his class!
Professor Flores was by far my favorite in my two years at SPC. He got straight to the point and was clear about what he expected. He did not have many assignments and offered clear grading rubrics. He was a tough grader too, but if you show him your best work he will reward you. I can honestly say that he helped me improve my writing.
Professor Flores is an amazing instructor. Although he does give a lot of work, it is clear that he wants every student in his classes to succeed. I can gladly say that my writing skills improved more in this class than any other. I believe that much of this improvement can be attributed to Professor Flores's detailed feedback and advice.
Due to some tough comments on here, and low confidence, I was a little nervous to take the class at first. But in the end, I'm so glad I did. His comments are unforgettable in a good way, and very helpful. I am way more confident in my writing skills. He's a great professor. He gives you the tools to succeed.
Professor Flores is a good professor who just wants to see you do well. He is an EXTREMELY tough grader. You must be able to understand HIS WAY of things and how he wants them done to earn an A or B. Pay attention, analyze, show up and follow directions and you will do well.
His grading may be tough to some, however my writing skills became much improved taking his summer course. Gives great advice as well! Overall was a positive experience taking his class.
I am Gustavo, a former student of Dr. Flores for ENC1101taking his class was comparable to Composition class, blended with science. He is great at giving good feedback to students and clear instructions. His instructions are clear; is open to answering questions and helping students/ My grade was 96, and I am an English second language writer.
Great teacher! Super funny, laid back, does not give a lot how hw. Let's you resubmit papers if you come to class. It is just a really easy 100% recommend.
D.R. Flores is a great professor and has good intentions. I took my composition one and composition two with him. Most students feel fun and interactive in his lecture. He gives his students more chances to update their grades.
W teacher, super chill, funny and cares about you. He has lots of energy and makes class worth going to.
Professor Flores is the type that want's to see your writing style grow and improve. Always finding something to critique and never giving 100s, but if you put the work in it is easy to earn an A. His lectures are always engaging, inspirational, and funny; definitely expect to be called on as well. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Excellent prof. Probably my favorite.
He is funny and tries to get to know all the students. He made me inspired and willing to learn. However he can be a bit harsh in his critiques sometimes.
I took his class over this summer so it seems like a roller coaster. all due dates were messed up. He seems hard in the beginning but once you understand how he likes papers, you will be good to go. No exams only writing all the time writing. If you need help he will try to help you.
Prof Flores is an outstanding teacher, he is a bit of a tough grader but with that comes excellent feedback to understand where you may have gone wrong. I appreciated his insight and knowledge and I am grateful to have been apart of his class.
No required textbook and offered extra credit. Would have to read a variety of articles and then write about them weekly, gave all the links to these readings. Some larger essays. Saw my writing improve throughout his course. Sent updates frequently throughout the week, and answered emails quickly when I needed help. Highly recommend Flores!
Amazing Teacher! He has great classes that keep you engaged and encourage discussion. The assignments are relevant to the discussion in class, and he gives great feedback. If you take his class, he will make sure you succeed.
Overall, I would not take any of the classes taught by Prof Flores in the future. Although he is a tough grader, the issue I had was that the feedback he gave was not at all constructive. When reading the feedback he gave on assignments and essays, it felt as though he was throwing insults at me and not helping me to improve.
Definitely avoid this teacher if you want to have a good time. He's super strict about deadlines and gives bad grades if your assignment is even a day late. Plus, he's always making rude comments and hardly provides any useful feedback. He puts assignments in the gradebook but never actually opens them for the class. I wouldn't take this teacher.
This teacher only makes rude comments and never gives good feedback. No matter how hard you try, you won't get an A on your essays.
This professor is not recommended for taking classes. Grading is unclear, assignments are not published, and it takes forever to receive grades. Very unprofessional.
Do not take this teacher.
Do Not choose this professor! The whole online course was disappointing. He is very unorganized, takes a really long time to review and post grades and gives the rudest most unprofessional feedback. I felt so discouraged after every assignment. I did not learn anything. He is definitely not a professor that anyone should choose to learn.
professor gave passive aggressive feedback "show dont tell" refuses to give clear examples, i can appreciate he answers emails quickly, material was fun to read, assignments were not difficult, professor comments and feed back was repetitive, redundant and unhelpful.
professor flores is a tough grader for sure. I took him during the summer and there were a lot of papers and discussion posts. he let me fix a citation and resubmit for a better grade. you have to definitely try in his class, or you won't get more than a C which he states in the course module. he loves literature. this is not a fly by course.
professor gave passive aggressive feedback "show dont tell" refuses to give clear examples, material was fun to read, assignments were not difficult, professor comments and feed back was repetitive, redundant and unhelpful. Never tried to give critical feedback always had a rude comment. Couldn't wait for the class to be done!
Professor Flores runs a tough class, but with unstuck ai and some dedication, you can succeed. His feedback is strict but helpful - just be sure to understand his grading style. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding experience.
This prof was rly helpful and allowed me to grow as a writer. He is always so helpful and sweet. He is super accomadting and understanding. Definately would recommend taking his class. The begining of the semester will have alot of hw/ reading but the other half of semester is just wring essays, GIVEN LOTS OF TIME. no midterm or final
Looking forward to his 1102 class.
th only issue i encountered was that the professor waited until last few weeks to grade so you never know until later o what your grades are.
Writing is not easy for everybody. However, he is an excellent professor, and you have to be open to his feedback and never take it personally because he is doing his job.
I felt like I had a great rapport with the professor during the class. I did the assigned work, read the assigned material, and still came out with a B. I asked about EC and his response was, "I find that students who pick up these points are the ones who make A's anyway, so...you should be in good shape without even looking at your grades"
Professor Flores was so hot and cold with his feedback. Twice he resorted to "name-calling" in my feedback. Like, "don't ask questions in your essay, it makes you look childish" or something like that. Or when I wrote in first person by accident, like, "this isn't your diary" His online instructions were at times unclear and choppy.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! He grades really hard and gives no feedback to help you improve. When he does give feedback, it is very rude and basically name calling. He told me that by using the wording I did it made me look like a 3rd grader. Once I asked for help and got a zero because he only opened one file and it was not the assignment. RUN!!!
I have had the pleasure of taking Professor Flores' classes twice. Once for ENC1101, and again for ENC1102. Both times I've received an A marking. When time and effort is put into the essays, he will reward you, however he is also very blunt with his wording which can get under soft skin. His grading is fair and comes from a place of care.
I enjoyed his class! He shows short films, interesting articles, and analysis on different topics in his class. He has select days to help students check the work, giving personal feedback before sending it in. My writing and formatting skills improved significantly after taking his class.
You can tell he does care about his students. His grading criteria and directions for assignments can be really confusing just ask for help. No midterm, very very easy final. Allows late work up until a certain point. Very easy class when you figure out what he wants to see in assignments.
