HE is a great professor as long as you take notes and attend class oh and also read your textbook if you dont then ur screwed. X choice quizes. X choice exams w/ essays
No Comments
I do not recommend this teacher. He was not clear with his instructions and did not give contact information and talked about himself a lot.
Pretty difficult...but talks about interesting stuff.
Good teacher, but very hard. Expects to much and class is very boring
An exceptional history teacher. The class is not boring, he always tries to make us think. This is not an easy or blow off class. You have to read the textbook and selected required readings that relate to the class (most are interesting) also take good notes and follow instructions. Great class and rather challenging
I really enjoyed this class. It was not a blow off class but it really gets you thinking. You must attend and you must read and you must use your brain...i definitely recommend him, but he is difficult.
Mr. Tovanche was the worst teacher I've ever had! I wouldn't even recommend him to someone I didn't like. He does not understand that most people taking classes as a community college have other things on their plate. Several times he gave assignments that were near impossible to do. He showed absolutely NO compassion for his students.
Straight forward prof, firm and fair. Prepared me for the university. No free rides and expects you to act like college students all the time and be on time. Glad TCC hired him.
whine, whine, whine, all students do and behave like elementary students. tovanche is hard but this is college not grade school. will take him again, if you want a real collee prof take him.
Second semester with Mr. Tovanche. Excellent professor. Difficult, but excellent. Challenges and gives quality education comparable to four year colleges (i imagine). I made an A :)
Good teacher, and interested on teaching his students.
Great Prof!I ended up with a D, but he did everything he could to guide me,and help me to do better. One of the most important things he did was to encourage me to not give up.He is fair and dislikes for his students to not take advantage of his office hours. He is always available to help.I recommend him.Not only is he a great prof.He is sexy!He has
Has a chip on his shoulder big time. He is a very smart guy, knows what he is talking about. Hard to follow his lecture. Nothing was out of the book just what was discussed in lecture. Lectures every day. Don't miss any class. He is very serious, strict, insulting and not open to offering his opinions.I dont recomend taking him keep looking further
I enjoyed his class, but I had to work hard for my grade.Prof.Tovanche is a tough and strict instructor who expects his students to do the work, and act like adults, but he is also very helpful if seek his help. His lectures are informative and his tests are hard. He encourages discussion about the topics, but does not let the class get off subject.
He is a smart guy, but he is extremely strict and demanding, and he expects nothing except the absolute best from every student. He is a very bitter/angry guy half the time, although he does have a mild sense of humor. He kicked me out of class without warning because my phone went off... ON VIBRATE. Take him if you dare.
Mr. Tovanche is a very good teacher, and encourages class discussion, but if you ask a question he makes you feel stupid and glances at the clock if you talk for too long. Tests are complex, and quizzes have five questions, so get them all right! Make sure you show up, too, or you will get behind.
Very tough teacher to pass almost made an A but did not because of the long essays he makes you write for the tests. this professor makes you work hard for your grade. His lectures do not come from the book. His tests are from lecture and have to write page long essay.
Seriously, grow up and get use to college! 1st it was not his fault our bonus points have been taken away, it's the childish kid who still wants their mommy to hold his/her hand. 2nd this is college! If you read and study this class is an attainble A. 3rd he NEVER forces his opinions on us and he is FAR from biased! One of the BEST teachers by far!
Wow...lots and lots of whining. He is by far the best professor I've ever had. The man knows his stuff and is extremely helpful. He likes discussion and students who ask questions. It's too bad I only took one of his classes. Read your syllabus and your book! I highly recommend him, you'll take away more with his class than in any other.
This guy ruined History for me...
Professor Tovanche is a GREAT Professor he makes he lectures interesting and he is definitely not biased. Make sure you take good notes and read the chapters he assigns!!! BE ON TIME! I LOVE his class and i will keep taking his classes as long as can. He can be mean but as long as you do his work you should be good :)
VERY VERY HARD!!!!!!!
Great professor, lectures were great. People need to stop whining and do the work. Very helpful if you ask for it. If you want a challenging experience take this professor.
Easily my favorite class.
I learned a lot in his class. I scored well but at the expense of nearly failing my other classes. I had to dedicate too much to his class to recommend him to anyone else. You will learn from his lectures. But only what he wants you to learn. He drastically scaled the difficulty down halfway through to accommodate the failing majority of the class.
He demands too much time outside of class. If you're studing to be a writer take his class.
Be prepared to study! He is very passionate about history, but to me, didn't feel like he gave me all the correct answers for tests. Read all chapters he requires and take notes on anything he says. He used slide shows for notes this semester and said it was his first time to do this. I don't know how I would have understood anything without them.
Yes he's hard, yes he's strict, and yes he makes you work for your grade. Because of all of that he's the best professor I've ever had and one who I've learned the most from. He makes you understand the material; so If you're a person who pays to go to school to actually learn, he's the guy for you.
He makes you earn your grade. You get what you put into it and he is a very fair professor. He makes you think about things in an irregular way that makes you understand the material. He also does a very good job of not putting a bias perspective into his teaching, which can be hard for history. Overall very respectable professor.
He is a very great speaker. He gets his classes involved during lecture. His test were very easy as long as you do not wait till the last day to study everything. He respected each students and opinions as long as you respected him and classmates. He gives you 93% of the answer, for test, from his lectures and the rest from the book.
Great professor, I learned more in this class about history than all of my previous classes combined. He is a great speaker and interested in the subject. Plenty of extra credit is offered, is difficult. He became easily frustrated with the class, and sometimes had a bad attitude that I did not appreciate, but overall I really learned & loved it
He is a highly intelligent and extremely precise with his lectures. A little strict, but definitely a stern and respectable man. Easily my favorite class.
He kept me interested through out the whole course
Don't come to his class with a mindset that he will take sympathy on you. He knows what he talks about, very professional, and he expects nothing less from you, because you're not in High School anymore. His classes are on a different level.
Best teacher ever. Not only you learn what you are required, he goes the extra yard to make it even more interesting. His test are 99% based on lecture, and his essay questions, for my class, were given in advance. He even came in on a Friday to teach my class, dual credit, with doughnuts. If you don't put some effort in, you will not do well.
Best history teacher I've ever had in my life, he goes into depth and helps you understand it better if you require that extra help. I would defiantly tae his class again.
This class is definitely worth taking. He dives deep into the history of America that has gone untold. No quizzes or homework, just five tests that are online. He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had and I highly recommend taking this course.
Professor Tovanche is great professor. He is very intelligent and knows how to keep students interested in his lectures .Would definitely recommend him.
If I could take this class again, I would. He is always asking for students feedback in class to make sure everyone is up to pace. He is always at his office hours and loves to help you succeed.
4 EXAMS, 1 Comprehensive EXAM (optional- replaces lowest grade), 4 GRADES TOTAL. Show up on time, take notes, READ, and watch the videos. He only cares as much about your success as you do. Although he may appear a tad bit intimidating, he is very insightful and VERY resourceful! Mr. Tovanche is a little guy with a lot to offer!
This is the best history professor you could ever find. Just show up to class on time, don't use your phone, and take notes. I didn't even buy a book for this class. Just watched the videos and took detailed notes. He loves participation in class to make sure you understand what he's talking about. MUST TAKE IF YOU NEED A HISTORY CREDIT!!!
Great history class. Would take him again. You will definitely learn some amazing things in this class. He loves when students participate. But he can care less about any excuses, so show up on time turn off your phone and pay attention.
got an 89.7.. he doesnt round up
Took this class online. Broad range of reading, if you like to read this class is for you. 4 exams and one optional. 50 questions in 50 minutes. That is it, no papers to write or pop quizzes. I took lots of notes on the reading.
Dr. J is the reason i have an account on Rate My Professors! I have had many different majors, as well as many different teachers. Dr. J is probably the best professor I have EVER had! His lectures make you think (historical truths and tales of experiences). Lectures over things outside of the book. Law school grad expects you know the syllabus.
I didn't like history before I took his class. He makes the class so interesting. He very strict on phone use.. So don't get mad if he tells you to leave. Amazing professor will be taking him again
This may have been Professor Tovanche Paredes first online class, as he had problems creating tests without errors. He was humble about it and fixed everyone's grades. Though I took him online and never met him, he seems like a no-nonsense kind of guy. I like this, but if you want a pushover professor, my guess is that he is not for you.
Mr. T was the best professor I've had to date. Lectures are super engaging and very interesting. Tests are online and you don't really need the book. He's always willing to answer questions during office hours but come prepared. Stay off your phone in class or he will lose it. He can come across as harsh but he's really just passionate.
Took online. 4 tests and final. Thats it! Lowest grade dropped so if happy with 4 tests, skip the final. Rent digital book. Tests are online, 50 minutes, 50 questions with 5 extra credit questions, all multiple choice. You must have the book. Gives study guide. Read and take notes using guide. Gives extra credit. Watch a video and write 250 words!
If you are a good test taker i would suggest this guy. He gives 4 unit tests with 1 optional. No WORK! This class requires READING and NOTES!!
You get what you put into his class. He gave us bonus points on all exams, so your grade is your grade. He does expect you to be on time and stay off your cell phone, but that's college stuff. I went to his office a couple of times and it helped. Just come with specific questions. He doesn't like laziness.
He comes off as very mean, but he means well. He has the tolerance of a high school teacher in that he explodes whenever you're late or if you even pull out your phone for a second. His class is very interesting, and you do learn a lot, but I wouldn't take it again. He's just very rude about very small things. If you're late, don't show.
Not easy to approach he won't even respond to your email's if you are too casual. Office hours ONLY if you have a question. He WILL NOT answer questions if the answer is on the syllabus. The syllabus is not easily understood. Don't even think about having an electronic device, even a laptop. Tough isn't even a good word for him.
As college Professors go he is a great one. He expects you to act as adults. YOU will have to read the book ( online/free) and his notes to pass exams. I do not find him rude at all. If you follow directions and be respectful in his class you will have a great experience.
First off, his lectures are great. He knows what he's doing and I genuinely enjoyed the lectures. HOWEVER he is extremely unhelpful and quite frankly rude. Tells us to ask questions then gets mad when we do. Tests are worded tricky. Frequently said "come on guys this is 4th grade stuff" when we didn't remember someone or understand a concept.
Really great teacher, he won't dumb anything down for you and actually expects you to listen and learn. As long as you comply with his rules you'll do just fine.
Professor Tovanche is an excellent lecturer, extremely passionate, and connects with his students. You will get the grade you deserve in his class and he will challenge you, which is a great thing. 10/10 would take his classes again. I wish more professors were as great as this guy.
Took for online class. Everything is laid out in the syllabus. 4 tests, lowest grade dropped. 2 discussion boards. Test questions come from the book so if you don't read it, you won't pass them. He doesn't give "busy work". Only reason I got a B is because I didn't put A work into the class.
A serious teacher. Students were cheating on online exams so he did change exams during the semestr. Stay off phones, follow his rules and you'll be ok.
he expects you to do the reading before attending class. he likes to engage with his students by asking questions. his lectures are on a power point, and yes most of the stuff you need to know on the exam are there, but the majority it through your reading. he expects you to attend class, you never know when he's going to give extra cred.
Professor Tovanches is a great guy! He is very strict on policies, and very big on respect in the classroom!! He doesn't give homework, but expects you to read ahead! The book is online!! Definitely read the syllabus. I loved his class! And taking his Hist 1302 this fall! All in all, he cares about his students and passionate about what he teaches!
Online summer. Made an A BUT required LOTS of reading/study. Wouldn't recommend for those w/limited study time or hectic schedules. 4 major exams/Comprehensive final optional. Very fair Professor/Responds to email. Optional videos great but lengthy. Study or you will run out of time on exams. 50 questions/5 xtra credit in 55 mins. Doable but tough!
Not a bad professor, but his class was very challenging. And it wasn't even because of the heavy readings or lectures, but because of the actual test. You have to be an excellent test taker and study vigorously, considering the test are the ONLY thing he will put in the gradebook (which are 4) NO assignments ,NO essays, barely any room for mistakes
It has been a while since I had a teacher/professor like this, not since sophomore year in high school. The teaching experience is hands on fantastic, his lectures are amazing and grip you into the experience like a well directed movie. He actually challenges you on what you know and you can actually have a well rounded conversation about it.
Second time taking Professor Tovanche. Show up, phones away & on silent/off, take notes, and participate and you will do well. This class was only essays and participation. I'm not the best writer but this class made me a better writer. He is extremely passionate about history and shows through his teaching. Would take again in a heartbeat.
4 tests and a final, lowest of all is dropped. Go to class, take notes, keep phones away & silent or off. He pours his soul into teaching and expects the same respect he gives his students. Always starts class on time & ends on time, very rare you'll get out early. Would take again if my major needed more history classes.
I wish I would have known that the only four grades are literally the tests. So basically if you fail two tests, you fail the class because he puts nothing else in the gradebook. A history class shouldn't be this hard. Do not take this class unless you have time to read several chapters in the book and remember everything for the tests.
BEWARE FOR ONLINE! Took this class online (since I took 1301-which was very easy), turns out this is the hardest class I've ever taken. Only 4 tests, 3 bonus opportunities (which get you barely anything) and tons of reading. The test are extremely difficult and you only have 40 minutes to complete them, so if you're a slow test taker, good luck..
Great teacher who is willing to help you with any questions in class as well as tips in study methods. As long as you read and review the materials the class will go by smooth.
Difficult. Lectures are amazing though. Does NOT post notes online, so come to class. And don't be late otherwise you're absent. He hates cell phones. Gets agitated easily. Expects you to answer questions in class and will pause lecture and basically belittle the class until someone correctly answers. Must read 1 chapter of online book a week.
Beware if you take online!!! Test are HARD!! He gives you key terms to study yet it's not even on the test. You have to read 4 chapters at a time the test is only 40 minutes long. Its ridiculous this is by far the worst online class I've ever taken. So frustrating. Do not! I repeat DO NOT take his online class!
If you have a choice, do not take this professor. He is extremely arrogant and not approachable at all. He makes his students feel very ignorant if you don't know the answer. Very tough grader. I dreaded going to his class so much.
He is an amazing instructor who teaches WAY above his pay grade. Everyday that I walked through the door I felt as if I wassitting in a UT classroom. Puts a lot of effort into his lectures and expects the same from his students. Do NOT show up late or use your phone during class. The textbook if online and free
Course is set out, no surprises. Do what is asked and you will succeed. Very few grades so you cannot slack off.
This is probably my favorite teacher at TCC. If you aren't willing to pay attention and get involved do not take this class. However, if you actually want to learn he is always willing to teach.
Just awful I have 50 credits and this class was by far the worse class ever. 4 test 40 questions in 40 minutes seems easy but after failing the first exam I read every single word in the chapters and still manage to fail every single test. I have made all a's and b's but this class I made an F. I should of dropped this class when I had the chance.
Really pay attention to the rule about grading. If you have a 89.6, There isn't any rounding up to 90. It is just going to be an 89. I went through this the whole semester. Pretty sure this is the guy who believes that no one is perfect and needs improvement.
I go to every class and study all the time for this class yet i seem to not pass his class he is not a good teacher and nothing in the book or in my notes have been on the test.
He lectures like no other. I like his passion, and how he wants us to learn about life.
He expects you to study. Most students seem to just come to class and don't read the stuff he gives us. I'm doing pretty good because I pay attention and study my stuff. If you want a good teacher who will push you to learn, he's for you. Pay attention to the syllabus and you'll do fine.
I took his class online in the Spring. There are only 4 grades, all tests. His tests, however, are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. He writes his questions in a way where multiple answers are correct but he wants you to pick the "most correct" choice. The tests have extremely short time limits. Even with the online book and internet the questions were hard.
I took his online class, and let me tell you. I have learned a whole new appreciation for quizzes and homework as he calls "busy work". Overall, I understand his concept of pushing ourselves to learn the material and key terms that is given to us and respect him for it.
The reading material is free! That's always a plus. There are 4 exams and a CE, but he drops the lowest grade to the CE is not required if you are happy with your grade. He offers a few extra credit too. The reading material is an easy read. Good study guides provided too.
If you don't know anything about history don't take him because his lectures and notes have nothing to do with his tests. In class he seems nice, but once you go to him.. he is actually pretty rude. He is also strict and is very short tempered.. makes you feel like you're still in high school.
Honestly, Mr. T has been one of the best professors I've had at TCC. This isn't one of those "easy A" classes where you get a packet with dates to remember. He makes you work for your grade. He doesn't make you buy some big expensive book, instead he uses a free online book. Do the required reading and get involved in lectures, and you'll do great.
His Mex-American history class was tough, but great. Only 10 grades for the semester, all essays. It used to be 20 essays, 2 per unit. There's no word limit, just as long as its clear, concise, and you answered the prompt. The book is super cheap, and very useful. You get what you put into the class.
I advice you not to make the mistake of taking his class. Tests are timed and it's not something studying will help because his tests are very confusing. He makes up difficult & detailed questions and expects you to get them in limited time. You won't get the chance to review your grade besides: F. He makes you feel stupid for asking for help soo.
I took prof Tovanche multiple times because I loved his class. No, hes not going to let you sit on your phone all class, and no its not ok to show up late, but this is college and Im not sure why anyone expects anything less. Just make sure you read the syllabus, Im serious, memorize the syllabus. All and all truely an amazing professor.
He is really passionate about history and how it affected people at the time. Lectures are really interesting and fast handwriting is a must. You have an online textbook that you have to read every week.
worst teacher I've ever had. You get your grade by doing the tests, which are pretty much impossible to pass. He makes them up on his own and they're so confusing. I gave this class a chance but had to drop. He teaches by lectures and shows powerpoints that wouldn't even help you on the tests. . if you care about your GPA then don't take it!!!
Its a college course and he expects you to put in time in his class. I think that overall he was a really good teacher. Plus the textbook was free! Not an easy A at all, but doable.
I took this class online and it wasnt to terrible. You do have to put time and effort into the work! Not an easy A, but if you put in the time to read I think youll be just fine. And the textbook is free online!
I took his class online in an 8 week semester. He gives quizzes from the book and two writing assignments that are pretty easy to do. The book is free. Doesn't take late work.
I took the class online. He offers a free book and some extra credit. Dropps the lowest of all the quizzes and gives short writing projects. Everything is laid out clearly in the syllabus. All in all a very good experience.
Very difficult quizzes, and lectures do not relate to quizzes
Horrible!!! Grade based on 2 grades. Changed syllabus mid way and missed exam.
Took my soul. You have to really pay attention to understand what is going on and be on top and understand the readings. He is hilarious, but at your own risk
The time in class doesn't matter or is even useful, being used as an opportunity to interject his politics and way of thinking onto his students. All you have to do to succeed is to read the online book and get the quizzes done on time, though listening to his lectures is useful for regurgitating his subjective views on essays.
He is energetic and passionate. He really makes you think and will challenge students to support their opinions. Uses a free online textbook and gives about ten quizzes and two essays. He hates tardiness and classroom disruptions and can be a bit impatient about that stuff. You'll still learn alot.
His lectures and power points are very interesting. But, he treats all his students like high school students. Don't be even a minute late to class or he will make a scene and still count you absent. A LOT of reading, and his quizzes are impossible to pass! Only take if you are looking for a CHALLENGE!!!
You love him or hate him. If you want to learn a lot, take him. If you want to skate by then don't. You will have to read and he will call on students, specially when they come to class late. He doesn't play favorites. Uses free textbook for a bunch of quizzes.
A very knowledgeable, hilarious and smart professor, he is kinda tough but if you want to learn history, then his class is for you. Oh by the way, its not that difficult to get an A! just do you work
Dr. Tovanche has done a ton of legwork putting together his online course. He's serious about "Read the Syllabus," and for good reason--everything you need to know to get an A in this class is in there. This is the first time I've ever taken a class with a FREE ONLINE TEXTBOOK, which is awesome. Your grade is based on 8 quizzes and 2 discussions.
I took the online class and it was great. The textbook is online and free. A few quizzes with questions that will come straight from the reading. Then two discussion board posts that are easy grades if you follow instructions and put effort into them. Read the syllabus and you should have all your questions answered.
He's the worst. He's awful about responding promptly. Not helpful. He does provide e-text book but the majority of your grade is based on quizzes which are hard to pass. The reading material does not provide all the answers for the quizzes. Don't take this professor, he's the worst.
He is the best professor I have ever had. I took him for both HIST 1301 and HIST 1302 and I can honestly say his class changed my outlook on life and even led me to a whole career change. His class is hard, nothing will be given to you. I received a B in both of his classes. I would rather have a B in his class than an A in someone else's.
Great professor. He expects you to read and come to class on time. Doesn't test on dates, tho. He gives a bunch of quizzes and two essays, including a free textbook online. I'm getting a B.
Haven't even been in class for more than 2 weeks and I already want to drop him but I can't because I want to lose my financial aid. Basically, all he does is make his class seem much harder than it is with his awfully worded quizzes that goes over material he didn't teach and his strict lame rules regarding technology. Do not take this man lol.
Do not take him! He is horrible!!! His test are terrible, he words everything so difficult to trip you up! Its like he Purposely trying to make fail his test! HE IS NOT CLEAR IN DISCUSSION BOARDS.. He acts like his class is an Ivy League course. If you take him READ everything at least 5 times. MAKE SURE TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES!
He is absolutely awful! You get a free textbook online that doesnt cover his impossible quizzes to pass. He gave 2 opportunities for extra credit and that was to attend HIS LECTURE in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY! If you take online classes or night classes THAT MEANS YOU WORK! WTH! GOOD LUCK! Dont take his class .
Free textbook is great. Gives a bunch of quizzes and two discussion boards. Puts extra credit on all quizzes, but they are HARD. Read everything carefully. Got a B. Will take him again.
This class is tough, grades you on 8 quizzes and 2 essays. If you don't read or pay attention to the lectures you will not pass. If you don't want to know what a real college class is like then don't take him. He is very passionate about his class and knows a lot about history. You have to put effort in if you want to get anywhere in this class.
I took him for a Friday class and he made the time fly by. He is really into teaching and always talks about pushing for success. He is a bit intimidating and expects you to pay attention. I went to his office because I was failing. And he gave me study tips. Be sure to READ your syllabus and anything he assigns. Will take him again. Got a B
Professor Tovanche is tough, but fair. All you need to do is read, participate in class and listen. Dont fall asleep either. If youre tired? Suck it up. He gives amazing lectures everyday. You can tell he enjoys being a professor. It shows.
Honestly amazing lectures, however they have nothing to do with the material on the tests or quizzes. He's very passionate about history, though he makes it very clear that we are inferior to him and tells students they are going to fail or never achieve their goals. His quizzes are nearly your whole grade, and impossible to pass.
He is the worst professor I've ever taken. I took his class online he grades very late, his quizzes are tricky. He changes the wording from what's in the book to confuse you. BEWARE! You only have 20 minutes on test and you don't have time to review notes so you need to study extra hard.
he is not a easy, talkative teacher. this class has 8 quizzes in a semester and 3 discussion boards. the quizzes are extremely difficult and, seems to me, made to trick you. say, theres a question being asked. all answers you can choose from are the exact same except for one word making a difference. this is definitely a class i dont recommend.
if you don't want to learn, don't take him
Prof. T is a great lecturer. Be on time, act like a college student. He doesn't answer stuff in the syllabus so you need to read that real close. You have to read.
im not sure what everyone thinks college entails? Yes, you have to read to pass (this is normal??). Yes, he wants you to show up on time (its incredibly rude not to ??). Tovanche is, and has been, one of my favorite professors. If you feel his class is too hard or that he is unfair maybe you need to take a look at the amount of effort you're giving
He seems to take teaching seriously. I took his online class. Everything is layed out for you, so I didn't even have to email him. I go to UTA and took this for a summer class. It wasn't that hard for me. I got a B.
His lectures are absolutely wonderful. I took his class twice, I failed the first time because his class is based off of some quizzes in which you have around 25 minutes to answer 20 questions but they're all based off of his lecture. I failed the first time because I didn't bother reading. Reading is the key. His lectures are fun and he is honest.
I was scared to take Prof. Tovanche based on these reviews, but I ended up loving his class. He's strict, but fair & interesting. The quizzes are difficult, but not impossible. If you hate history, find another professor because he takes it very seriously, but if you like the subject & don't mind taking notes, I'd definitely recommend his class.
Took him for online class. Not a lot of discussion boards but has a couple of interesting ones. Use the free textbook and you'll be ok.
He is a good teacher for those who need to prepare for the real world. I label him hard because he does not sugar coat. He will probably read this on the first day. He teaches you responsibility in your education. His material is not suppose to be hard. It is both what he lectures and what you read on your own time. He prepares you for uni.
Online course was good for me because I like to work on my own. Gives free textbook. Most of his tests are multiple choice but has two writing assignments. Clear syllabus gbut it's kinda long.
Zero tolerance for tardiness, no shows, side talking, electronics (phones, laptops etc.)or any disruptions. Comes off as a strong hard ass but he is actually very passionate about history. He's smart, funny & informative. He was the first person to mention COVID-19 to me before it hit US. He's on top of his game & expects you to be too! Just read.
Professor Tovanche is a good professor when it comes to teaching about life, but when the quiz comes around, most quiz questions are very difficult to answer due to being so similar to each other. He Has 8 quizzes and 2 essays and is a very hard I mean hard grader. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS.
Only two discussion boards, 8 quizzes and thats all! Work at your own pace. Grades arent uploaded till after the due date, but all quizzes are on blackboard. Free textbook too.
ONLINE SUMMER COURSE with 8 quizzes(800 points) and 2 DB ( 200 points) for a total of 1000 points (A+) Reading is crucial in order to do well on the quizzes. I actually learned a lot in this class and Im really glad I took Professor T
I took his summer 2020 course, there were only ten graded assignments( 8 quizzes and 2 discussion boards). The discussion board were graded very hard and the quizzes were very difficult as well.
Online summer course. Very clear instructions laid out. Free textbook. Just study the materials he gives you adn read carefully. Especially the syllabus.
I learned a LOT in this class. Took it online during the COVID summer, so it was hard to keep up. He gives podcasts on the textbook and they really helped me. They'r optional. He lays out the course pretty well. He also called me back when I needed extra help.
He relates the class information to his own personal life. That made him more approachable. He likes to handle things over the phone and that makes it more personal.
I'm now taking his 1301 class online and I'll probably take his other class too. He gives a bunch of quizzes and gives recorded lectures that are optional. Always there in office hours. But he does require you to work. That's college. Two writing assignments that aren't hard.
He gives a bunch of quizzes based on a free textbook. Also posts audio lectures but that's only if you need them. He reviewed quizzes with me so I could do better. You have to read the book.
Clear instructions, tough grader. There were 10 total assignments, each worth 10% of the final grade: 2 DBs and 8 quizzes (plus 2 optional make-up quizzes). The textbook was AWESOME; the DBs were difficult (he's a tough grader); the quizzes were comparatively easy- 20-25 questions, 25-30 minutes to complete.
not a good professor at all. I struggled all throughout the semester when he wouldnt respond to emails. He would only talk to you during HIS office house which in my eyes is not a good professor.
Profesor Tovanche puts everything you need on blackboard from the jump. One multiple choice test each week and two essays you get three weeks to finish. He drops two lowest tests. Also gives video lecture. I messed up bad on my essay and he let me redo it.
Prof T is detialed with his expectations. He has one chapter test per week. I plagiarized my midterm by mistake, but he let me redo it for part credit. I would recommend him but he won't just give you a grade.
Professor Tovanche is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I am a very diligent student and work hard for my grade, I went into this class prepared to read and for a lot of work. He is not accessible to his students and does not teach anything, just gives a link to a book. I would NEVER take again, keep looking for a better professor.
He gives a free textbook and video lectures. The lectures are optional. Not easy but not hard. He had a weekly review session live.
Not the instructor you want at all. Not accessible or understanding at all. He actively works against his students in their pursuits of success.
Hmm. He really helped me when i called him. He broke down instructions and stuff I had trouble with in the readings. He asks a lot of questions to make sure you're doing the work though.
He grades you on a couple of essays and a bunch of multiple choice tests. Just read the book and study the key terms for the tests. Not easy but not hard.
Prof. Tovanche was a solid choice. Took online during COVID, so I don't know what he's like irl. He gave a bonus points discussion assignment that was easy but people kept messing it up so he stopped that. He puts extra credit on some tests and makes you write two essays which aren't too bad.
I took him a few semesters ago. He lectures a lot but he talks about interesting stuff. He can be funny. His tests can be tough if you don't study. Read instructions carefully. He's pretty serious about teaching and he expects you to be too.
I beg you there are so many better teachers out there to take then him. I cant even tell how disrespectful he is, laughed at my situation, no sympathy whatsoever. His tests are not unlimited, he grades very hard, and does not show your average score in class. He doesnt teach at all . Be ready to educate yourself by only the textbook. -100/10
Wow. For me, this class was not hard. The class is organized, not like a lot of online classes. I got no surprises. He drops two lowest test grades out of 15 tests. You have to write a couple of summary essays. Just take it out of the book and the podcasts he provides.
Not easy but fair. Free textbook. Lots of quizzes. Just stay on top of the reading.
Free textbooks online, so that's a huge plus. You will not find a more entertaining or animated professor. Really made the subject come alive and worth paying attention to in class. Loved everything he taught, and I have fond memories of his stories five years later.
Took him online, pretty tough for a history class. Your grade comes from about 10-15 quizzes and 2 discussion boards. The quizzes aren't too hard but some of the questions are designed to throw you off. If you just need the history credit I would try to take someone else
