Very fun professor. Makes jokes, does funny drawings, finds analogies for evertything. Also gives more extra credit opportunities than other Chem professors. Very cool prof. Oh yeah, and you learn.
Excellent teacher! Easy to talk to if you need help or if you just want to talk 2 him & his drawings are cute. Don't froget to take colored pencils, he likes that!! Kinda cute, too.
Really easy, ridiculous class. Thought chemistry was going to be hard but to him it is all about drawings! Fun class and funny guy but learned only very basics. Easy A because it is based on organized notebook with nice drawings. If you are doing bad in the class, just have to talk to him.
Tons of analogies. Easy laid back prof. Be sure to take good colorful notes for a good amount of extra credit at the end of the semester. Only downfall, Becvar creates half of the final, which can be a littl difficult.
You guys are nuts...You wont learn a THING in his class. Its easy, but hes horribly disorganized and his lectures are pure ramblings. Hes real nice, and makes cute drawings, but that wont help you answer Becvar's questions...
Sure, his 1301 class is excellent, but steer clear of his 1302. Nothing but ramblings. Take Becvar instead for 1302. He was late to class often and even came w/o his notes once.
This class is easy. The class is not meant to focus on how well you can answer Becvar's questions during the final. NO ONE can answer his questions...so just forget about it. Noveron is so easy, and he'll give u extra pts. on tests. His drawings make it easier to understand his lectures. Ignore the whiners--TAKE NOVERON!!
Not the best chemistry teacher I've encountered. He is easy and gives lots of curves so it can be easy to earn an A in his class however, his class is mainly self taught so if you believe you can teach yourself then by all means go ahead and take his class. Would not recomend this teacher
Smart guy, bad teacher. you will have to teach yourself through the book and the workshop. Gives alot of extra credit but hes very disorganized so he might forget he even assigned the extra credit and not give any points. If youve taken chem in high school it will be a whole lot easier. If not, youll need a tutor
Why is everyone calling this class easy? I will agree there is a ton of extra credit giving you a descent grade at the end, but the tests are absolutely ridiculous. It is also very hard to get in touch with him and he does not respond to e-mails and is very forgetful.
Helpful when you go and ask him questions, but he is a really tough professor. Take Lee instead.
He is very cool and helps a lot.
Professor Noveron is really smart, but really didn't do too well teaching. I ended up learning it on my own and in workshop. His tests are difficult and he's pretty disorganized. His class is not impossible to pass, he gives ton of extra credit, but you'll have to work hard!
Hated his class. I would never recommend anyone to take his class.
There's no doubt Dr. Noveron knows chemistry. The way UTEP coordinates some of the underclassmen courses is what distracts from the quality of the class. Pumping several hundred students into a single 50 min class twice a week is a waste of time for all. In the end, extra credit saved most everyone's grade.
Very hard class. Teacher was almost never in his office, and never responded to any emails sent to him. The guy knows his subject, but he does not know how to teach. Tests were always a struggle. I haven't a single clue how I actually passed this class.
You might as well buy the book and teach yourself Chemistry, because he is very hard to follow. As far as extra credit goes, there was only one opportunity for it this semester. The tests were extremely difficult and when he did post reviews, there wasn't anything from the review on the test. If you have to take Chem, AVOID Noveron.
Easiest CHEM Professor. Draws notes during class. Gives 10 pts extra credit on exams if you notebook have w/ 5 additional examples. Do notebook on chapter of exam and you'll do well. Run to his office before line forms. You can ditch his class and print his notes on blackboard. It will save a lot of time. Near end semester, extra credit film 20pts.
Easiest chemistry class available (gradewise). Not the best professor. Look out for exams because he is very disorganized. Notes+Exam=?
you can get up to 40 points of extra credit PLUS the exam only covers what he lectures. Easy
he should be an art teacher. enough said.
Overall, the class was pretty good. I think it would be more beneficial if we could've had 3 lectures a week instead of 2 with a workshop. The workshop I was in seemed more of a hindrance than a help.
I love Dr. Noveron! He is so passionate! He understands we are students and so he tries to make real world applications to more complex topics. Homework is sort of like extra credit, the iclicker thing is for participation and bonus points, he curves a lot!! His exams are based off of the homework and his lectures mostly.
You wont learn in class read the book,he is very smart but doesnt teach that good in lectures. He gives massive curves in the exams and he is nice,he draws alot in lectures and doesnt get to the point of what he is teaching, easy class but you have to study a lot.
Do the homework , do good on the work shop , and you will be good .
My post is straight honesty; if u have time/dedication for this course, take him. No one gets his test, BUT he does offer extra credit. Assigns hw, don't waste $ on the book, u can pass, his lectures are GOOD but the tests are confusing/hard, trust me. I dropped the class because I didn't have time, if I did I'm pretty sure I would have passed.
Class is pretty easy, just make sure you show up to workshop. You will learn everything in workshop his lectures are pretty much pointless to attend he doesn't teach. He spends more time drawing. Tests are very difficult but he offers A LOT of extra credit.
CURVES EVERYTHING!! DO EVERY ASSIGNMENT AND READ THE BOOK. HE CURVES A LOT FOR THE TEST!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is very unorganized. His class is confusing at times and he has a very thick accent. His methods of teaching are obsolete and makes the class extremely boring! He lost a lot of my grades and thus resulted in a B instead of the A I should have received. I do not recommend you take him.
Easiest chemistry class EVER. You learn at workshop not at the lecture, gets off topic, hard tests but huge curve and A LOT of extra credit. You end up having a 100+ in this class.
This was a great class,I learned a lot.Go to tutoring in the chemistry building whenever possible.Honestly though,I didn't attend class much except to hear announcements(Noveron teaching method confused me a bit). The homework he gave though was incredibly helpful.I recommend writing out each problem of the homework to help you understand concepts.
Easiest chem professor ever. Took Becvar the first time around and dropped him, that class was awful and ridiculously difficult. Noveron tells you to study only what you need to know for the exams. The exams are also pretty easy, plus he curves a lot and gives a ton of extra credit. Take him, super easy. I got an A.
You will pass even if you do not understand chemistry. He gives A LOT of extra credit like A LOT plus he curves. Exams are not easy but with curve and EC you could easily get an A. Do not attend to his lecture is not mandatory and is not worth it. Go to workshop and clear your doubts there. You will learn in workshop.
gives lots of homework, but do it because it will become an exam grade, also offers a lot of extra credit, and gives exam retakes, i made a D because grades are based on class average, my class had a secret group in which they would make 100 putting the rest of the class at a disadvantage :( so i have to retake, but he gives a lot of opp to succeed
If you have to take chemistry, I HIGHLY suggest taking it with Noveron during the SUMMER! His lectures are confusing, so you will need to read in order to truly understand, but his tests are fairly easy. And he gives so much extra credit, and an overall curve at the end of the semester that it's almost impossible to fail.
Do the extra credit!
Highly curved and not very helpful. Waste of money and time to take it with this professor. I DO NOT recommend him at all!
An embarrassment. Although I am passing the class, I'm never taking this professor again. I don't recommend him. Take classes with someone else or SOMEWHERE else! The explanations are vague and not clear. Read and teach yourself the material. It'll be a better investment of your time. He's not there for you, and often can't be found.
Dr. Noveron is a good professor. He really cares for his students. If you do the homework and the extra credit you should be fine.
Often late to class, extremely disorganized when it comes to nearly everything, wastes SO MUCH time drawing pointless pictures and talking about subjects that are completely off topic. Go to workshop and teach yourself the material, because this professor isn't going to teach it to you. However, he does give a lot of extra credit.
Very disorganized. The lectures are pointless and difficult to understand and the workshop did not help either. He is not very helpful and does not answer his emails. I recommend taking this class at EPCC if you actually want to learn and not have to waste time and money doing a workshop. Get ready to teach yourself.
Terrible professor, always late and always strays from the topic he's teaching. Never available in his office or over email, but does give lots of extra credit opportunities for what they're worth. His lectures arent helpful and are a waste of time. Don't bother with this class, take someone else, or take this class somewhere else
I do not recommend this professor. The class ends up being really tough, mainly because you teach yourself. Extra credit gets you through. He does not seem prepared at all, tends to go off topic. Take the class with someone else.
Terrible this professor paired with a few other general chem professors to force you to buy a program to do homework and access book, buy another book for workshops, a third book for lab and this professor doesn't stay on track so you will have to teach yourself most of the information through the hundred or so easy problems he assigns for homework
I do not recommend this professor. I did not have a good experience in his class. You have to teach yourself the material, he is extremely confusing and not very clear. You pass from all the extra credit. If you MUST take his class, I would advice that you read the material before you even enroll.
I do not recommend this professor. It's difficult to learn, you end up teaching yourself. You only pass from all the extra credit.
Great teacher. Explains stuffs really well. I like this teacher alot. Highly recommended
I do not recommend this professor. Never available and not a clear lecturer. I passed because of the extra credit.
I do not recommend this professor. Not a good lecturer, unclear, not accessible. Extra credit gets you through, and read on your own. Take the class with someone else.
Dr. Noveron knows a lot about chemistry but isn't the best at teching it. He goes too slow to be able to cover all the material and ends up just giving a bunch of extra credit to make up for it. Grades took forever to be posted, and there were sometimes mistakes. Don't buy the text book because you'll have to buy a subscription to TopHat anyway.
He is an okay teacher. Overall, you'll probably learn enough to get you an A in the class, but he gets off topic quite a bit and doesn't always cover things that are needed for the tests. He does curve test grades and gives TONS of extra credit if you just go to class. One of the easier chemistry teachers. Please take him if you have to take chem.
There are 6.022 X 10^23 of extra credit points in this class.
Good luck, professor Noveron is not a good teacher at all know his material but is not good at explaining it well. Studying does not mean you will pass the test his exams are very tricky and it makes you dispuse chemistry. Most likely the reason you will pass is due to the extra credit.
He's an okay profesor, he goes pretty slow and explains things very throughly. Gives tons of extra credit and curves tests. He's also a genuinely good guy, it's clear that he cares a lot about his students.
Study for tests and you will be fine! If you are failing towards the end of the semester, he will use your grade from your final as your grade for the class.
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken. He does not teach well AT ALL. If you plan on actually learning and getting a grade better than a C go with ANYONE ELSE. His tests are ridiculously hard and always have things he NEVER even mentions. Don't bother asking for help he is useless. I emailed him multiple times and he offered nothing.
Does his best to explain at lectures. He gives a lot of extra credit which are through TopHat.
Terrible teacher. Was stressed most of the year because I got low grades on all 4 tests. Give a lot of extra credit, which is the only reason why people pass his class. Good luck.
Dr. Noveron is a good teacher, his exams are hard but his extra credit helps A LOT. I would suggest actually going to class since some of his notes are on the exam, takes attendance and uses REEF for in class questions. His homework is easy and you can re-do it until you get a 100.
Dr. Noveron is an amazng proffesor And you will learn a lot from him if you pay attention. Also, STUDY or you won't be passing his exams, but if you still find yourself unable to get a decent grade, don't worry, his extra credit will probably cover it up. Also, ATTENDANCE matters. Overall, he is one of my favorite professors and truly deserves it!
Pretty abysmal teacher - shows up late to a class that already requires students to be there at 8:30am. Lectures are confusing because he just draws pictures. Attendance is mandatory unless you can just get the quizzes and code from your friends. The tests are only "hard" because they're riddled with typos and he does multiple correct problems.
People who took this class know that you are freaking out the whole semester just to learn that you are fine at the end. I two of my exams and I still got an A. The curve is extremely big. Relax if you're failing but not too much. If you are failing, definitely take advantage of ALL the extra credit in class and at the end of the semester.
Good professor and very nice guy but his lectures can be confusing sometimes. He cares a lot about his students and offers a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. You must study for the exams but even if you get a bad grade extra credit can give you a lot of extra points.
Professor Noveron is a very caring person. His lectures can be a bit confusing, but you need to keep in mind this course is CHEMISTRY and it is NATURALLY difficult, it is not his fault. He offers a lot of extra credit and is always willing to help. He gives reviews before exams and the exams contain the same questions just different numbers.!
Easy A, he gives +20 extra points on each exam.
Not the best, not the worst. He teches slow, other proffesors are ahead. His notes are very colorful, (draws lots of pictures) good if you are a visual learner. Will pass if you do all the extra credit he gives. He has never once answered any of my emails throughout the semester, had to talk to him throughout the class. Attendace is mandatory.
He does his best to make the class topics easy to understand through his color presentation on his app. He always gives extra credit for most of the exams. However, you must put your effort if you wanna pass the class like creating study strategies to understand or memorize rules or concepts. Best professor to introduce you to this science field.
Not good at teaching. Class is relatively easy if you learn the stuff on your own. Tests are hard and confusing. Lots of extra credit and curve for tests. It's very easy to pass due to the extra credit just make sure you learn in the workshop.
CURVES SAVES GRADES AND STUDENTS' MEDIOCRITY
The worst class i have ever signed up for, thankful its only for the summer and we are half way through because had this been a whole semester class i would have definitely reconsidered dropping. TRY NOT TO TAKE PLEEEAASSSEEEEE
Worst ever. Tests are different than hw, test reviews are different than tests, lectures are different than tests. Inputs wrong grades all the time and is impossible to reach for corrections. His workshop TA's are left in the dark. His hw and test questions are ambiguous. He messes up on creating hw and makes problems that have no correct answer.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are well made and understandable. I really don't understand the negative reviews on Dr. Noveron, he is a very good teacher and I am sure that the students were just lazy and undisciplined. He's very flexible
His tests and homeworks were a mess, he was hard to reach for corrections
Dr. Noveron is a great instructor! I wish I could take his class face to face but since the pandemic shift every class online, I still managed to get through. You just have to make sure you put the effort in workshop and participate. I do consider taking him for 1306 in the summer as well and be a Peer Leader in one of his classes.
Very passionate about his subject, however tests are very specific. TA is horrible. Doesnt know how to help with material and book is full of mistakes and issues. Chemistry is a difficult class so in order to pass you have to STUDY
This professor is terrible. There's errors in almost every homework assignment, quiz, and exam. The exam questions are extremely different from what you are taught in workshop and lecture. I studied for weeks for every exam and never got an A because of all of his surprise questions. Cumulative final worth 200 pts with no notes allowed.
you dont know what your grade is until the semester is over which is super frustrating! The only grades that count are your exams there is no other work that will help bring your grade upHe does not answer emails! the final exam is ridiculously long 55 questions no notes allowed, respondus lockdown is required, I recommend taking another professor
So here is my update after taking Dr. Noveron for CHEM 1305 in the fall 2020 semester online. I took him for CHEM 1306 Online for the Summer II 2021 session. Yes it was a summer semester, so it was fast paced. However, it was possible and the class did run smoothly! Recommend for 1305 in the Fall/Spring & 1306 in the Summer!
If you need to take Chem 1305 take it with Dr.Noveron! I took this online class and it was great. He does have some typos in Hws and exams, but it's not that big deal! Trust me, you won't regret taking his class. Chem I is not an easy class but if you attend the workshop you'll be more than fine.
I don't recommend taking him, this guy is delusional, He has you write most of the questions for homework he'll use as a "project" then grades the final like 200 pts more than all the other grades combined and you have to pass it, not to mention he requires you to use lockdown and posts exams even if there's national holidays in place
The homeworks are full of typos which would usually be fine if it did not inhibit your ability to understand the questions being asked. Many question on homeworks and tests are poorly written and it does not seem like this professor puts in much work or effort into creating them. Teaching content is broad and you learn more from your PL workshops.
I strongly advise you to take proffesor noveron! I was unsure whether I should take him or not at the start of the semester because he had received negative feedback. But, to be honest, it wasn't as horrible as I expected. If you want an A, you must study. If you do not intend to study, do not enroll in this class. he also gives 50 extra points!
I took this class online. The online video lectures were great and informative. If you watch the lectures, have an amazing TA, attend review sessions, and the free tutoring you can pass the class. Dr. Noveron also curves the final which other professors do not.
Noveron was a good professor, the class is very lecture heavy and there are only a few quizzes in between exams, but he is very lenient on retakes and extra credit.
Took it online, was a very difficult class and he was good for an online professor. The course is difficult, not the professor. The seminar is where I learned the most. A few HW "tests" between exams, every exam was lockdown browser. He will admit his mistakes. Gave everyone 25 extra credit added to an exam because some questions were wrong.
The course was difficult, but he was a good professor The course itself is tough, not his teaching. I learned the most during the seminar. There were a few HW "tests" between exams, and every exam used a lockdown browser. He admitted his mistakes and gave 25 extra credit points for an exam with wrong questions.
Great Lecturer, took during the summer, and provided extra credit opportunities. Exams make up large portion of grade, however due to it being a summer course, his exams are reused with randomization of lots of problems learned throughout the year. some questions on the exam were not covered in class. Must study on downtime to understand concepts.
It is his first time teaching in a physical classroom, he is great :), shoutout to the Peer leaders :).
Typo-ridden homework and exam questions make work far more difficult than it ever needs to be. Awful time wasting workshops, although I'm not sure if it's up to the professors to implement them. Worst part is the end of year special assignment. You have to submit 100 question, like 5 would've been fine. Overall, needs to learn LaTeX.
Dr. Noveron is a great professor. Course is heavy, but his tests and homework assignments are pretty strightforward. Peer leaders are great!
Easier chem 1 class for undergraduate students
Noveron is a good professor, but he tends to get off-topic. I loved how he did his tests and homework assignments all straightforwardly he didn't try to make the questions complex and wordy. Everything you see on the homework will be on the tests. Studying outside of the homework is advised. Shoutout to all the amazing Peer-Leaders.
great teacher, little homework, go to lectures to do good in tests.
Very good professor! His lectures are great and he is very nice. His homework's are not long or difficult and they will actually help you a lot. He also has videos of different concepts of the class and you can see them if you want to or if you didn't get something. The final exam is worth a lot but if you study constantly you'll be good.
n short, he's a good professor. He helps you avoid failing the class, some exams are online, and he gives very little homework. The first time I took chemistry was with Dr. Monarrez, and this time I decided to take the class with Mr. Noveron. He just pays close attention to your workshop, because he barely teaches during class.
Exams are online and lockdown. But the exams are easy as long as you pay attention in workshop. Cool professor very sweet but he can go on a tangent in the lectures. Overall easy class
He is a very good professor but the exams were hard. He drops the lowest exam grade. The homework was pretty difficult as well.
His lectures are virtually useless to actual learning. Everything I grasped from this class was from workshop. He wastes a lot of lecture time talking about things that don't necessarily pertain to what we're learning currently like the MCAT or careers in chemistry. So we're left with little time to actually grasp what he's teaching.
I would never take this professor again, his test are evil. The morning lectures are evil and I would recommend any other professor instead of him.
exams...so unnecessarily hard and unlike practice problems on homework or workshops. They drop your grade so hard, and I guarantee you the first or second one (while they in theory should be the easiest) are by far the hardest and will tank you. Lots of spelling/grammatical errors throughout the course year.
He's really not a bad teacher. His lectures are solid if you pay attention, even if he goes off topic sometimes. He clearly loves chemistry and cares about his students,he replies to emails quickly and explains well. But his tests are very hard, and he sometimes includes Gen Chem 2 material, so pay close attention.
please don't take this professor you will end up hating life and chem more than you already do lectures are confusing & unorganized his TA's suck i got flagged for cheating on the final which i wasn't while the girl next to me actually was cheating and they made me take a paper exam completely different and way longer i hope the TA trips on a rock
Chem 1305 is a killer, but Dr. Noveron unfortunately barely makes it any easier. At times we wouldn't even discuss material and it lead to us not grasping the course. Very exam heavy and they're not easy at all, be sure to study hard because the lectures barely help sometimes and they are big. Got my first C, EVER, avoid if you can
Overall his lectures did help for the test but more often than not there were topics he did not go over in lecture in the exam.
