He's a really cool, funny and nice guy. Unfortunately, those aren't the qualities you need in a professor, when learning a foreign language. Took him for spanish 1 and the stress is too real. Lots and lots and lots of online hw. Over 300 modules. 2 oral presentations, 5 tests, 5 exams, 2 papers with rough drafts and more. It's a tough class. Avoid!
He's an incredibly good Professor, very helpful & reasonable. But VHL (Online HW) sucks, any class that makes you use VHL? Run. It's an avalanche of HW. That's main reason the class is hard. If you at least are trying in the class? He -will- help you out. If you want to learn Spanish, take him, if you want easy A? Do not. (P.S. Focus on grammar!)
AMAZING professor!!! I loved class, he truly cares about his students and is willing to help. There is a lot of homework online but it really helps you learn the language. Show up to class + do your homework and you will get an A.
Do your homework and you'll do fine
Great professor. I think he is pretty new but you can tell he loves to teach and help whenever you need it. I made an A and actually learned something.
easy A. Just do your homework.
Two thumbs up.. Show up to class, do your homework and you will get an A. He speaks Spanish during must of the class but it really helps you get familiar with the language. TAKE HIM!!!
I don't know how Professor Salto has so many good reviews on here. I took him three times because I needed this course to graduate. (Only professor available at that time) I failed all three times. QUIZ EVERY CLASS, tests aren't even what we covered in class. Asked him for help, he laughed in my face. If you want to fail take him. HE IS THE WORST.
Gives great lectures and always available for help. It's a tough class but he really helps you get though it.
This class was harder than I thought it would be but I am older and had never studied another language. Juan Alberto is a fantastic teacher and he encourages all his students to participate. ALERT! LOTS OF HOMEWORK, HOMEWORK IS 23% OF THE GRADE. I will be taking Spanish 2 and will choose this professor.
LOTS of online VHL homework, sometimes even up to 20 or more assignments due a night. Liked the class but the amount of homework was almost too much.
Easy A if you do your homework. I loved class and actually looked forward to it.
I do not get how this guy gets so much praise. He seemed friendly at first, but halfway through the semester he got really passive aggressive with the class. He expects you to understand the concepts he is teaching immediately, and is not a very forgiving grader. He isn't the worst profess I've had, but definitely would not recommend him.
If you show up to class and show a little participation as well as keeping up with your online homework, it is a class to pass no problemo.
So much work it is too much. Expect to have homework almost every night and have to go to the testing center at least once a week.
When taking this class, you must have a drive to want to learn spanish. If you don't, you'll find yourself falling behind and ultimately failing. GO TO CLASS- it is important. Tests/Quiz every week and in the testing center. He really does want you to learn and will help you out when you need it. Ask questions, show up, try your best, DO THE WORK.
I took him for both Spanish I and II, and I would take him again. Yes, there is a lot of homework everynight. Make sure you come prepared to class with the homework done and be prepared that every class has a test or quiz. Tests and Quizzes are in the testing center and he drops the lowest of both. Participation counts in every class
he takes forever to grade any thing
Worst professor I have had in my 3 years in valencia. I took his Spanish 2 Class online and was beyond stressed in this class. He gives homework 4 days a week on top of quizzes, tests, compositions, and projects. I had to do homework 5-7 days in the week for hours every single week for the entire semester. He never grades the work on time either.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. He will never grade your papers. It's the end of the semester and there is not 1 thing graded except for tests because they're automatically put in but even some portions of the test have to be hand graded and with 4 weeks of the term left, i'm stuck not knowing my actual grade. Lots of homework and projects.
Probably one of the worst professors I took online. The tests had lot's of spelling errors and were sometimes very subjective. Didn't grade papers/tests/oral assignments until the semester was over so I was stuck guessing what my grade was the entire semester. Assigns too much homework through the worst online learning system I've ever used.
This class is ridiculously jam-packed with assignments. For each night of homework you will spend up to 2 hours. This does not include other essays and projects! If you are taking any other classes DO NOT take this professor. He holds you responsible for work and deadlines but doesn't do the same for his students.
My only complaint is the amount of homework this prof. makes you do. It's a lot but if you know how to manage your time you can do it. He does a lot of discussions and video projects. I learned how to edit videos because of him. He takes a few days to answer his emails too.
Professor Salto is a fine professor. HOWEVER, be prepared to have homework every single day with no breaks. His discussions were the most annoying because you have to reply to 5 others & draagggg that comment out of your behind in order to meet the 2 paragraphs (6-10 sentences each) required, its ridiculous & redundant. Tough grader too.
I took an 8-week course meaning there was more homework than regular courses plus it was a 4 credit course but he gives clear instructions. He gives a reasonable amount of time to finish your work and provides feedback quick. Also, he is super organized with the course material.
Im used to putting in work but this class was insanely too much. Get ready to do 15 assignments or so 7 days a week on top of projects and more. Yall please dont take this class. If you need it choose a different language
Tough class for sure lots of homework and you must WANT to learn Spanish. I have always been interested in learning and getting better and did learn quite a bit in this class. However professor Salto cares about his students, I was going through a lot and got really sick while in his class and he really worked with me to help me be successful
I took this class as an already fluent Spanish speaker with some trouble in writing. Not only does this class lack guidance, lack of effort from professor Salto to actually teach anything, but also he assigns 10+ homework assignments nightly on top of a college paper writing discussion every week. If you want to teach yourself everything go for it.
Didn't submit grades til 2nd to last week of the semester. There's 10+ homework assignments a day from mon-thur and a 4 paragraph paper due every Fri with 10-12 sentences per paragraph requirement. If you have any type of job outside of this class or are taking other classes I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROF. Not lenient or understanding in any way.0/10
Very good professor, condense course is a lot of homework but not too hard.
Professor Salto is professional, knowledgeable, and responsive to the online student. There are clear concise instructions for every assignment. The course is designed to challenge you but not overwhelm you, as you stay current with the calendar due dates. Also provides helpful additional learning resources, outside of the etext.
bro goes ham on homework decent amount of tests. very good and cares about his students but but assigns too much imo.
Weekly assignments due on Friday which require 5 paragraphs of 10 sentences, and you must reply to 5 classmates with 2 paragraphs and 10 sentences. Pearson lab work 3 to 4 nights a week (10 labs a night). 3 to 4 projects that require video plus quizzes and exams. He designed the course so you must dedicate 15 to 20 hours a week. Do not take
This class is A LOT of work. 5/7 days of the week you will have to do something. Minimum of 10+ assignments a day. Tests/quizzes are graded last minute. There are 6 tests including mid term and final. There is a research project, 3 oral assignments and 2 written assignments. I had to drop to PT at my job for this class it was overly time consuming.
Devious amount of homework, and if you have other responsibilities this is not the class to take. He does two Pearson courses which u have to teach yourself from, books are expensive just for us to never touch them, takes long to email back for help, takes long to grade, I am a Spanish speaker and this class makes me wanna strip the Latino off me!
No feedback, he takes forever to respond to emails, doesn't grade anything on time. There is 10+ homework almost daily, two textbooks didn't use we could find them online easily if needed. Weekly discussions of 10-15 sentences per paragraph and respond to a minimum of 5 peers. Very disappointed I know Spanish fluently. This class stressed me out.
Does not care for teaching or helping you do well in the course. Assignment instructions were vague and "resources" were out dated, doesn't respond to emails until a week later when you don't need him anymore, when he does respond to emails he doesn't answer your questions and instead copies and paste the module instructions passive aggressively.
I have never in my life had to complete so much coursework for a class-ever. (I take STEM classes) it's actually extremely strange. minimum 2-3 hours of homework per day if you actually are trying to keep up and not cheat. This class is near impossible to take with other courses and actually learn material due to workload.
This professor graded my work two days before the class ended. Due to this, it is hard to fix your mistakes and do better on the next assignment. Also, this is a Spanish one, and the professor grades harshly as if we are not all learning Spanish for the first time.
BEWARE!!! Do not take any of this professors courses. You will have so much homework and tests that you will not have time for yourself or other classes. He will not grade your assignments until the end of the semester. I will be contacting the Dean to make a compliant with this professor. Do not waste your money or time with this professor.
I struggled with Spanish in middle school through high school and I always did poorly in Spanish, until I took this class everything became clearer, and he actually seemed to care. I do think it's better to take this class if you're willing to put in the work though. He does require participation which personally kept me more engaged.
Professor Salto is very well educated on the Spanish language, if you are someone who wants to really learn Spanish, he can answer all of your deeper questions about why things in spanish are the way that they are which helped with my learning and understanding tremendously
Great professor! Clearly cares about his students and takes time to explain things and never makes you feel bad when you are struggling with a topic. Just wants to know you are trying. Would take again.
Professor Salto is very patient and willing to help you with proper sentence structures. There is a lot of homework but I believe that is just the curriculum for SPN1121. Overall, I would take him again.
He is a very good instructor in relaying information about each section of the course.
I really enjoyed this professors class, I would recommend him, there is a decent amount of homework that you will need to keep on top of, but beside that the class isn't too difficult, so I would recommend it.
Had a blast I had a blast in this class Juan -Alberto is the greatest!
Professor Juan-Alberto is a fun teacher for starting Spanish and he'll tell you all he knows about Spanish speaking countries. But beware of the small assignments on VHL website. There's a lot!
There is a decent amout of work; one needs to keep track and be on time. Take time to grade assigments, util the end of the semester. All quizzes and tests are done through honorlock (Beware)
The professor is very clear in his lectures and takes the time to ensure everyone understands prior to moving forward.
I am so glad that I chose Professor Salto for Spanish 1. This was this perfect class for an introduction to Spanish. The class was divided into units where I learned a lot of Spanish at once and never felt overwhelmed. Especially if this is your introduction to learning Spanish I would highly recommend you take Professor Salto's class.
I had a great experience with Professor Salto and would highly recommend him as a teacher. I think it was a great introductory class for Spanish and if English is your first language he is the perfect professor to teach you because he is very knowledgeable about both Spanish and English
Professor Salto's course is well structured however there is a bunch of homework. We have multiple assignments to do every other day. Its almost impossible to balance this with any other courses and if you have a job or social life for that matter then forget it. I did meet him and he is a nice professor but beware it is a heavy course.
This is a really good professor. I like his teaching techniques. He's
Mr salto is great your gonna have a lot of fun while learning just don't fall behind in your book work
Very easy to get along with and has a calm and collected personality. He's open to answering questions even if they may be slightly off-topic.
He is amazing just pay attention and go to class
Professor Salto is a great professor and his class is fun and engaging. There is a lot of assignments and class participation.
Pretty easy class, just stay in top of your work
Very nice Spanish professor. I haven't taken a Spanish class since high school, but this was easily the most effective at actually teaching and not just a load of busywork. There is a lot of homework to stay on top of, but if you understand the material it's not too hard to get ahead. Would take again.
He's amazing he's very understanding. Participation is graded in his class and so is attendance. It's a lot of homework but the website that has the homework give a penalty of 5 percent everyday it's late He's very patient. I got a high b in his class just by studying and doing the homework.
Professor Salto is very engaging with his students and knows how to facilitate a memorable and constructive learning environment. His lessons are very entertaining, informative, and encourage interactivity which helps reinforce the course material. He is very open in conversation and flexible to helping students learn. I highly recommend his class.
Professor Salto is great at keeping the class engaged. He always accommodates for students who are willing to learn, ensuring that his students understand a concept before moving on. He's easy to speak to and his lessons are always fun. Guarantee you'll be missing it when it's over!
If you are ready to learn Spanish take this professor and you will definitely know a lot by the time your done
Great teacher stay on top of your homework
Salto is incredibly kind and approachable. The class involves a substantial amount of homework and additional assignments, so I would recommend it to those who have the time and dedication to thoroughly engage with the material.
This professor takes a really long time to grade Assignments and Exams. It was a month and half later and I didn't know my grades for two exams and few assignments. I e-mail the professor to find out my grades. He claimed my grades for the exams were bad. I don't understand why he took so long to grade these exams and assignments as well.
Very meticulous in instruction and delivery. Completely covers any questions you may have and thoroughly answers them. Would take again.
Very homework heavy, be prepared to put time in. At least 4 2 hour long assignments due a week and attendance counts towards your grade. Nice guy but the homework was a bit much and drained my motivation.
Attendance and vhl are hand in hand if you fall behind in either it's easy to fall off track. But Mr Santo is a great teacher loads of insight and great energy
Very good professor. Very nice and easy to communicate with, even if the book requires a lot of assignments he is always there and helpful to make sure you are learning. Would take him again if I didn't complete my Spanish requirement.
He pays great attention to detail and will help you out anyway he can during your time taking his course
Very good at helping u understand.
Great professor who genuinely cares how you are doing in the course and will help you out whenever he's is given the opportunity.
Mr Salto is a really great teacher, and his class provides you with a lot of resources so it's very hard to fail it. Overall, it's a pretty nice class, just make sure you do your VHL homework and attend as much classes as possible.
Hey, it is a lot of work. But it's pretty simple. He uses a website outside of Canvas which you do have to pay for. The website is good he give you many chances to turn in an assignment just talk to him. He's pretty quick with emails. I took Spanish 1 and 2 wirh him. He's good just take him. .
Professor Salto is a great teacher. I struggled with Spanish in high school, but he helped me understand the basics. He's patient and really cares. Just know the VHL homework can be a lot, so it's better to take his class with a lighter course load if possible.
He's very willing to work with you as long as you work with him. There's a lot of homework for the class, but lots of room to ask questions in case of need for clarification. Overall great teacher, as long as you show up to class and pay attention you'll pass.
He screwed me out of graduating this semester. I had an A- the entire semester until i noticed he hasn't graded any big tests. Then finals role around and he slowly grades one by one and you see your grade go down letter by letter until your at a 69.47%. By the time your done with finals it's too late to even try to email him.
The professor was very helpful. There's A LOT of HW, so be careful. He always sends email when he sees you're falling behind. The only thing is that he's a slow grader. Throughout the course there will be very few graded, so the grade you have might not be a reflection of how you're doing in class. At the end is when you know your true grade.
This was the first fast paced class i have ever taken and I was not sure if I would be able to do well. But, I was able to and I actually learned something.
Professor Salto is a great teacher, he explains lots of things to help you understand. There is a lot of homework due for the majority of the week but it's everything that is discussed in class. I am taking his class 2 semesters in a row because he is a great teacher 👍🏻
I really enjoyed his class. Lost of group activities. Come to class or you'll fall behind. He's a great professor though, very helpful. And efficient when responding to with email.
Professor Salto is very caring but there is a lot of homework. He does want his students to do their best. This is a course heavy class.
Easy professor, easy homework, be prepared for small paragraphs and writing very small writing prompts in your texts, and projects fairly simple to understand will remind you of resources available a very no excuses teacher which is good 👍
I took it in summer, which maybe was not the best idea. But he gives you SO MUCH TO DO. NEVER grades on time & is honestly a mess. Did not unlock a quiz until AFTER the due date when I messaged him BEFORE the due date. SO MUCH HOMEWORK. I feel maybe in fall it would have been better to take but lord. Only do if you have the TIME. USES HONORLOCK!!!!
Bro dont take him if you have a busy life. I never write on here but I gotta warn people he's just ridiculous!! So many assignments on vhl you don't even learn, your just trying to catch up. He also uses honorlock on everything for those wondering. Hes a nice guy but no not a good course didn't learn anything.
Enrolled in this class over the summer. VHL homework often but very easy to follow. The class isn't hard to succeed in if you keep up with the pace and do not fall behind on the VHL. The only critique is nothing was graded until the end of the summer which made it hard to know where I was at, but if you follow the rubrics you will succeed.
I´m a hispanic individual who speaks fluent spanish and the course and exam were still a little difficult. He gives out so much work throughout the week and it´s very time consuming because the homework is so much. As a spanish speaker the course is still challenging so i can only imagine the ones who dont speak spanish.
Not a bad person, let that be clear; he's understanding & nice. Everything in his class has HONORLOCK. Everyday assignments. Don't complete ONE assignment, he'll send you an email. Takes forever to grade exams; sometimes never grades them. If you have a life or other courses you want to prioritize, walk away. One missed assignment; grade drops 10%.
VHL homework EVERY day. The second you miss an assignment... good luck cuz he'll be sending you an email coming at you like IT the clown. Not difficult if you know Spanish, but it's way too much work, like exaggerated. It was so frustrating to do it. You literally could not catch up. Much love to those who took him and still won't listen n take him
Professor Salto's class involves a lot of talking to other students in Spanish. He breaks things down well and will help you figure things out. However, he responds to emails very slowly. Do not expect grades back quickly. There is a TON of homework, worth 30% of your grade and participation is 10%. Not a bad teacher, just a lot of work involved.
Take this prof if you don't like free time or knowing what your grade is until the END OF SEMESTER. Will write a passive-aggressive email about not turning something in. Honorlock on everything, doesn't reply to emails until DAYS later, and at least 10 hours of homework per week. A dubious number of projects and exams you have to take. Don't take.
This was my first college class and it was awful. There is a lot of homework, and the professor is super strict on due dates. And coming from a Spanish speaker, this class was very difficult and if I didn't know Spanish, I don't know how I would've passed. Worst of all, he doesn't grade anything all semester and leaves everything for the final week
