Tests are extremely easy if u pay attention to the lectures and read over the chapters in the book. He doesnt take attendance, but go to class to get the lectures. He posts study guides that dont really help, but there is extra credit on each test that you just barely have to attempt. Dropped lowest test grade. I never really studied and got an A.
His tests are pretty easy. Multiple choice, 5 identifications, extra credit essay on test. He is also an easy grader for the EC essay. Does not take attendance, and is very nice.
He gives good information on the things he teaches. Study the book and his powerpoints and you'll do fine.
Prof Valenzuela is a very good teacher, and the class is fairly easy if you read and pay attention in class. Teaches from a very liberal viewpoint, if that matters to you.
Best professor I've had at Kennesaw, smart, funny, and he knows his stuff. If you get a chance to take a course of his, TAKE IT. His grades were 4 tests, and you were allowed to drop the lowest one. He makes the content extremely interesting with his humor and with his extensive knowledge.
Very nice prof and fairly easy so long as you take notes and pay attention. Grade is based on 4 tests, with ability to drop 1 with the final. Tests are mix of multiple choice, identification, essay, and small bonus essays for 5-10 points. Book is definitely not needed or used, except maybe once for small group activity.
He is an extremely nice man if you ever need any extra help from him. He doesn't require attendance and doesn't use a book, all powerpoints go online. The studyguides are sorta useless, just READ the 100 slide powerpoints and it really helps. He drops the lowest test and always puts extra credit essays at the end of them. Extra cred assignment too!
He really loves history and knows what he is talking about! He is helpful and approachable even during tests. He does a good job at working with the class and is not against changing the way he does things to accomidate. I don't even like history and I liked this class!
This is one of the nicest people I have encountered, ever. He responds very quickly to emails, very attentive, and will answer any questions you may have. He is funny and charming, and the tests are reasonable. He doesn't have mandatory attendance, but trust me you're going to actually want to go to class. I think anyone can enjoy this man.
Professor Valenzuela genuinely wants his students to do well. His lectures are kinda boring because all he does is read from Powerpoints but he will throw in a joke. There are 4 tests and the lowest grade is dropped. So if you do well on the first 3 you don't have to take the final. Class is not mandatory but he tries to reward attendance.
He is the sweetest professor ever when you ask for extra help! You never use the book except for an extra credit assignment at the end. Attendance not mandatory, all ppts online and the material really is interesting stuff if you care about history. I would take him again and recommend everyone to him. Drops lowest test grade.
Very passionate guy and I fully appreciate that. He teaches the REAL history that they didn't teach you in high school. I hope that KSU gives him a full time gig because he deserves it. Drops the lowest test grade so there's only 3 grades for the whole class. Keep up with the readings and you'll be fine (he picked a great book, so it will be easy)
Even though class is mandatory I recommend that you go to class! Read the point and go over his power points for the class and you should be okay. It is a lot of reading though.
Absolutely wonderful professor. He is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching and really wants his students to succeed. There are three test and a final but he drops the lowest. He also gives five random pop quizzes to encourage students to show up to class for 10% of your grade. I missed a few and still did well. Highly recommended!
There was 3 tests and the final was optional if you wanted to take it. Also, 3 papers, but they were just a page and a reflective paper. Very easy! The first test was not easy for me, but the last 3 test were easy! I took the final & made an 106! You have to put effort in, but you will be ok. Very good teacher! Class is not mandatory.
Mr. V is a great professor. He is incredibly helpful and pretty flexible. His class is pretty simple, 4 test, a few pop quizzes and a very easy perspective paper. He drops the lowest test score and lowest quiz grade. HIGHLY recommend.
Great Professor! Extremely clear about what he expects Read the chapters in the book and you will do well on exams Lectures can be some what boring..but it is history Optional Final 3 exams, 5 reading pop quizzes, 1 paper over a documentary film you watch in class. Notes posted online & study guide but I didn't find it helpful. Would take him again
Professor Valenzuela is a great professor! Very passionate about what he is teaching. His tests are easy if you just read the text and study the power points, but you have to study! He is extremely fair and pleasant to deal with. He made a field that always bored me very interesting!
Great teacher. Test are fairly easy if you read the book and study for them. He posts study guides to tell you what to know for the test. I would definitely take him again.
Exams are easy and he gives you a pretty specific study guide about a week beforehand. Easy to understand, overall great professor. I'd take him again.
Overall a great professor. If you pay attention in class it's fairly simple material to absorb. He has no attendance policy but does give out quizzes every now and then. He drops the lowest test and quiz grade so if you do well in the class you will not have to take the final. I would take him over again if i had to.
Great professor! Classes are slightly boring, but if you pay attention and take notes, there should be no reason for not getting an A. He lets you drop one test, and a quiz. The book is more or less helpful depending on your learning style. Good guy, I'd take his class again.
Professor Valenzuela is awesome! He does power points and posts them online. You rarely use the text book, but I found it helpful to use when filling out the study guides. No attendance policy but there are six pop quizzes through out the semester. He lets you drop one test grade and one quiz grade. Great teacher and you can tell he's passionate.
I honestly think this guy gave his own recommendations on rmp. Not easy to follow during lectures. Literally need to read all chapters pre class To pass matching pop quizzes. Dry humor. You definitely. Have to work for a passing Grade. Won't let you see old tests for cumulative final either. Do able but not an easy a.
I disagree with the comment below. Yeah he makes you work for it- but hey its college, not HS. you're here to learn & prof. valenzuela makes you think outside the box. those pop quizzes will getchya though-so def. prep b4 class. i'd take him again. im walking away w knowledge, not just a grade.
Hard class. Have to read many chapters and doesn't tell which chapter that would be used for the quiz. Tests are hard and study guides are hard. Must pay attention in class and attend class regularly. Would not take him again. No extra credit but does drop one quiz and test grade. other assignments none just one paper. Good luck!
Why the poor comments? He's so nice & funny. Gives study guides for every test. If you do the study guides, the tests should be an easy Ahigh B. One short, easy paper. DON'T NEED BOOK, I rarely used it. Go to class, sometimes there are pop quizzes. Uses power points, bring your laptop & type in his commentary and you will pass w a good grade.
the tests are easy. he puts the test on a studyguide for each one. go to class .cause he gives pop quizzes.
i did the bare minimum in this class and managed to get a C. If i would've just slightly put some effort it's definitely an easy B or A class. He gives study guides for each test telling exactly what you should be studying for and I would teach myself the night before tests. 6 pop quizzes for attendance check
he's a good professor. very passionate and also funny. there are three tests and one final but he drops the lowest grade. test arent difficult if you study and know the material. take good notes and read the book. there are 5 pop quizzes which are easy if you pay attention and he also drops lowest one as well. one short paper. pretty easy class.
This teacher is not good, this teacher is great. You will pass this class easy, if you study, that will be an easy A. He gave study guide, and quizz in class. you do not need the book, but make sure you come to class. Best history teacher I have took.
He was a good professor. There's a few quizzes, sometimes he will hint at them sometimes he won't. I didn't really read the textbook. The study guides were helpful. He's sarcastic it's funny. You'll have to watch films in this class, but they're interesting.
He was awesome. Very clear about expectationsrequirementsgrading system from day one. Class attendance is required so you can be there for the 6 quizzes but more importantly so you know the information on the test. His lectures are interesting and you can tell he's a good guy. WIsh there was another class to take with him.
Easy AB Course. Pop quizzes are easy drops the lowest one along with the 4 tests. Tests are easy as you move along and he gives study guides for each exam. Can exempt final which is the last exam if satisfied with your grade! Read book and listen and you'll be fine! Very nice man and is very will to help students. Grades on curve (usually 4 pts).
Lecture is straight from textbook, verbatim. He has 6 quizzes that are random so, show up. Drops one exam, and one quiz. If you study the material, go to class, you'll make an A. Nice guy, awesome Prof. Strongly recommend. :)
Best US History class I've had. Shows multiple views of history, and you'll really learn a lot from him. Tests were pretty much from lectures and presentations. Drops the lowest pop quiz and test grades. Lets you exempt the final. One film paper is required, but the films are interesting and easy to write about. Definitely would take again.
Professor Juan Pablo is amazing at making history relevant! I usually am bored to tears in history classes, but he's got jokes and a storyteller vibe with his lectures. He gives pop quizzes only when he knows all that attend that day will pass. Attendance is up to you, but you kinda need it to pass because of the 6 pop quizzes in various formats.
Very good teacher that makes history entertaining. He makes funny jokes and doesn't try to sugar coat history and tells it like it is. Actually cares about his students and history. 6 pop quizzes, drops the lowest. 2 tests, midterm and final , if you read the book and fill out the study guide you should get an A, or a B
I loved having Professor Valenzuela! Some days his lectures dragged on, but besides that I really enjoyed this course. Midterm and final are easy. There are pop quizzes, so make sure you go to class. But the quizzes are really easy as long as you have been paying attention. Two mini essays over the semester (did not even read the books).
Great teacher. We read 2 books this semester with questioners, gives pop quizzes throughout the semester in class. Attendance isn't mandorty but if you miss a quiz its a 0 with no excuses. He drops the lowest quiz grade. Easy class!. Hard to understand and not a lot of grades.
Lectures are long and a lot of notes but always interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Tests aren't bad at all, midterm and final both 50 MC then two book questionnaires which aren't bad just do them asap. He really knows his stuff. I don't like history and I wish I could take him again, highly recommend!!
Professor Valenzuela made this class so enjoyable! You can tell he really cares about the subject and he makes it his goal to get others interested as well. Mid-way through I found myself actually looking forward to his lectures, and the textbook was a good read too! There were two exams, a few pop-quizzes, and one short paper. Take this class!!!
Great professor!! His lectures are a little scattered sometimes and you have to come to class for the pop quizzes. But his midterm and final are super easy multiple choice questions- define all the key terms and the tests will be no problem for you. Book questionnaires are pretty much giveaway points. Loved this class, he makes history relevant.
He takes the teaching material straight from the text book. He also assigns 2 books for you to read and write feedback on, not hard but don't put it off (15% of your grade for each book). Gives midterm and final study material, answers found in book easily. Gives pop quizzes in class sometimes (matching) so look over key terms and come to class.
Class was 50/50. I wouldn't take him again but I know he is definitely not the hardest out there. Honestly just blessed that I got a C in the class. Midterm and a final. several pop quizzes. and then two required reading (small novels) did not read them and got an A on both papers. (found summary online which helped me write it)
Prof. Valenzuela is great! The class did not required too much work- read 2 books, take notes, a few pop quizzes, take 2 tests, write a paper or 2. DO go to class and listen to lectures and show him you care about the class. Fortunately, his lectures are interesting and engaging. I would definitely recommend his class!
6 quizzes, takes highest 4 drops lowest 2. Book questionnaire is easy and you have all semester to answer 4 opinion based questions. Funny guy, easy going and easy to communicate with. Mid term and Final. Not cumulative. Take him.
What he says in class is on the exam, go to class take good notes and you will pass. He does pop quizzes, so you have to go to class. He is great at answering questions or clarifying details. The book report kinda sucks but you have lots of time to do it, FYI don't put it off till the last min. Prof Valenzuela is amazing!
Great class, a lot of reading but thats fine. 1 or 2 papers that are short and easy. there was a book report we did also that was good with an interesting list of books to pick from. He knows his history, but I feel he is pessimistic on his view on it which is fine. He's a good teacher though, teaches right from the book!
BEST history teacher by far! I hate history, it's my hardest subject, but I completed this class ending with an 'A'. Awesome, AWESOME professor!
Best professor ever! He's super funny and extremely intelligent! Now, if you attend every day and take notes, you don't really need the textbook but it is recommended. If he's reading through the notes and then repeats something, write it down and star it! It's important! All in all, I'd recommend everyone to take his class. Easy A if you try.
If you do most of your reading and at least show up sometimes, you will pass this class. Attendance not mandatory, but he gives 6 random quizzes (drops 1). He gives super helpful study guides before each test. Use these and youll be fine. Also he gives you key terms at the beginning of the semester. These are usually what are asked about on popquiz
Very good professor. As long as you do the readings you should be fine. Just beware of the surprise quizzes there's 6 of them. He also allows you to drop the final exam if you like your grade at the end.
He is a great teacher who really knows the material. The lectures can get a little boring at times but overall solid. The quizzes are easy and he always let us check out answers with a neighbor. Your only grades are tests and quizzes, but he lets you drop the lowest of each. It says he does not bump grades, but without asking he bumped mine. nice!!
Prof Valenzuela is the greatest professor I have has at KSU. He is such a good teacher, & he gives such a good view on US history. His tests are 40 questions multiple choice, and they are over his powerpoints & lectures in class. He gives you key terms out of the book to go over & study guides for each test. 4 tests- drops lowest (includes final)
Great professor. Read the chapters, it will make the lectures and tests so much easier. Has a few pop quizzes but they are verbatim from the text, so do your reading! Overall enjoyable class.
Easy class if you show up for lectures. I bought the book but never opened it, and kind of regretting it. Pretty sure all his lectures are based off the book and the class will be easier if you just read it. I'm lazy though. 8 quizzes, drops your lowest 4- 40% of grade. Midterm and Final- 60% of grade. Not a hard class, just show up and listen.
Be prepared to take notes fast. Talks fast about a lot of topics and is very biased on his beliefs. Two tests make up 60% of total grade, so mess up on one and you're out of luck. Pop quizzes are his way of keeping attendance and there's about one a week. Tests are mostly lecture material. If he says something twice, write it down, it's on the test
Great prof, gives interesting lectures. Tests and quizzes are largely lecture based, reading the book always helps though. Attendance, though not mandatory, is really in your favor. Answers for tests and quizzes are all covered in detail if you just show up for class. Prof really cares, suggests interesting outside reading options worth exploring.
Did not like his teaching style at all. 2 exams, 8 pop quizzes. Drops 3 lowest grades. No homework, no extra credit absolutely nothing extra to help your overall grade. Does not post powerpoints online until after midterm. Lets you work as a team on pop quizzes unless the class does bad on the midterm or doesn't ask in-class questions.
He has a very opinionated class. The midterm almost everyone failed. He curved it to make people pass. His opinion on history is what you are tested on. Attendance not mandatory but don't go to class and you will NOT pass. He will not bump your grade.
There is a lot of reading for his class. Try really hard to stay on top of the chapters and participate in class. The worst thing about this class is that there are only 2 tests and I think 10 quiz grades. So you need to do good on everything or you could fail. Tests aren't bad as long as you read and he does give a "study guide"/outline.
Professor Valenzuela is one of the best prof's here. He is super funny and makes the material interesting. He flips what all your typical old white male coach history teachers in high school taught you. Tests are multiple choice, and easy if you review your notes and look over the topics he gives you.
He's a cool guy but kind of opinionated. However he made lectures interesting, and the tests weren't too difficult. He does give "pop" quizzes but they are very easy. There is also a fairly large individual essay/project that you'll work on for the last part of the semester.
I hated History, but his class wasn't that bad. You just have to show up because ALL of his quizzes are pop quizzes. Honestly, if you read and pay attention in class, you should be okay.
To do well in his class, read the chapter and take notes before the lecture and star anything he repeats during class. He lectures straight from the book so it's really important to read. He gives a list of terms for each chapter which helps with the study guides for the midterm and final.
He is a very good teacher and I did enjoy his class. You need to be prepared to read and go to every lecture. Tests are what we talk about in class and how it relates to the text so keep up on the reading. Also for test study the study guides.
attendance not mandatory but you need to go in order to pass. pop quizzes are 30%, midterm & final is 50% and project is 20%. He expects you to read every chapter before class & power points are very brief so listen to what he says.
Great professor! He makes sure you understand the material and he is very passionate about history. I have learned a lot in his class. The quizzes are vocab straight from the book or notes. I was worried about the exams but they are super easy if you attend and pay attention in class!
Prof. Valenzuela is the man! His class challenged me and made me a better students. Everything you do in class is useful. Only 2 test (mid/final). 8 pop quizzes but drops 3 lowest. 1 paper (1 page).
Prof. Valenzuela is by far the best professor i've ever had. His classes are incredible and leave you thinking about things deeper than when you entered. Easy if you pay attention, do your work, and read.
He definitely knows what he is talking about. He does lecture for pretty much the entire class, but he is always wanting feedback and questions which make the class SO much more interesting. There are pop quizzes, but you typically know when they are coming around the corner and he drops the lowest 3. No homework:)
Only has a few grades, 2 tests (Midterm and Final) each worth 25% of your grade (50% total), 8 pop quizzes (worth 30%) where you get to drop 3, and a short paper (worth 20%). All assignments are pretty easy and class is fun.
A very nice man. Very easy on the eyes. Love the accent.
One of my FAVORITE professors at Kennesaw. Theres a midterm and a final, 10 pop quizzes, and a one page paper. It sounds like a lot but hes worth it and very entertaining during lectures. If its an opening TAKE HIM. Thank me later.
I enjoyed his class. 1 book questionnaire, 2 tests, and I believe 8 pop quizzes but he drops the lowest 3. Each tests has an essay portion, a short answer, a matching, and a multiple choice but as long as you take notes word for word youll do fine. He gives a study guide so you know exactly what is on the test. Quizzes are matching
Valenzuela's class was the most interesting class I took this semester. He doesn't focus too heavily on memorization, but rather on gaining a deeper understanding into the topics. There are only two tests, both of which are not difficult. Quizzes are easy too if you go to class, which is worth it. It's one of those classes you hope will go overtime
Super cool professor, would take him again no problem. One paper, 2 tests and 8 pop quizzes. Drops lowest 3 quiz grades. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss a quiz its a 0. His lectures are long, but very interesting if you like history! Definitely recommend taking him!
Easy A for sure. Took him in the summer, just go to every class and take good notes. There's 1 paper but he is not a harsh grader at all. The study guide he gives for the final is pretty much everything you need to know. Nice professor overall and teaches at a good pace. Answers all questions too and loves what he does.
He's great. There is a lot of reading. Take good notes and fill out the study guide. Questions on tests can go into extreme details. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't come to class you will not do well. Extremely interesting lectures.
With regards to the tags those are only to give a heads up about some of the bad things in the class overall I really enjoyed him as a professor. There is a good amount of reading, but that comes with the class. Other than that he is extremely nice, knowledgeable, and passionate. I recommend him. I took his class during the summer.
There are 8 random pop quizzes throughout the length of the semester. Two of them are dropped. There is one midterm test, a final, and a paper. He doesnt use a textbook but sends you reading to do each week over email. He is very knowledgeable about the subject, but the class is somewhat difficult to achieve an A in.
Mr. Valenzuela is a great guy who gives entertaining lectures. Super easy course as long as you study and read material. 8 pop quizzes throughout the semester but if you breath in that class you will probably get a 100 on them because they are so easy. I enjoyed taking his class and would recommend him to anyone looking to take history.
You have 8 pop quizzes throughout the semester and two are dropped, but if you pay attention to the lecture you should get 100s on them. There is also a midterm and a final which are each 25% of your grade and a 1 page paper. Almost every class is lecture, but Prof. Valenzuela is a funny and likable guy who makes the course truly interesting.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! so funny and makes the lectures bareable. i wish i could take another class with him.
Professor Valenzuela is great!! 8 pop quizzes (that's why attendance is mandatory because you never know when there's quizzes) midterm and final and a one page paper due at the end of the semester. I pulled out a B but that was because I gave little effort. You could easily make an A. Quizzes are mostly matching and midterm/final match study guides
He's a great teacher. 4 tests throughout the semester, 3 Unit tests, 1 final, the lowest one is dropped. 8 quizzes, 2 of the are dropped. One Book Chapter Questionnaire at the end where you just write about a chapter in the book, not hard. Study guides were straight forward. No attendance, you need to go to class since his quizzes are pop quizzes.
Love this professor! 4 tests including the final. He drops the lowest test. 8 pop quizzes, drops the lowest 2. Quizzes are easy, just pay attention in class, tests are straight forward, he gives a study guide. Take notes in class, study and you'll be fine. I will miss him, I wish he taught world history! I would take him again in a heartbeat!
Professor Valenzuela is an amazing lecturer that makes an otherwise potentially dry subject into something that I looked forward to learning about. He also makes the tests based on what each group discusses, so you are encouraged to ask questions about the topics. Overall fantastic professor.
I loved having Mr. Valenzula as a teacher this semester, he's a hilarious guy who is amazing at explaining historical connections in events throughout history. If you listen to his listen to his lectures, take good notes, and show up for the pop quizzes then you'll do great. He loves when his students ask questions and have discussions in class.
Professor Valenzuela is a good professor. He is funny and tries to best to personally connect with the class. He does 8 quizzes and drops the lower 2 with a final at the end of the semester (Summer). If you show up and participate in the class it is an easy A. Definitely would take him again
This man knows his history! He teaches you real modern U.S. history, unlike the flawed material taught in grade school. Attendance isn't required, but come to class because he gives vital information. Read the free textbook because you will be quizzed. Bear in mind that if you take this class, you will never look at the U.S. the same way again.
Really nice grading structure of 10 quizzes (lowest two dropped) and 3 tests (one being your final). The class gets very boring at times but he tries his best to make it interesting; it's obvious he enjoys his work. The quizzes are random so make sure to go to class because you cant remake them. Make sure to read the textbook (which is free online)
a true jerk. his lectures are all over the place. hes so a.d.d and can never stay on topic and then gets mad at the class for not understanding. makes you read a 40 page chapter pretty much every week (sometimes even 2 or 3 chapters) and he gives out pop quizzes over the reading . if you skip, you get a 0% for the quiz. bad teacher. dont take him.
Great professor, drops your two lowest quiz grades. He's really nice and his lectures are interesting.
He is a really good professor and really funny and nice. He does pop quizzes but they're super easy and he drops your lowest 2 quizzes. The tests were fairly easy if you took decent notes from the lectures. I've never really cared for history but I really enjoyed this class and did really well.
GO TO CLASS. In class he will give test questions and answers. The words he says in class are answers to the test. Made history enjoyable. Funny guy! Had 10 pop quizzes, but as long as you study the vocab you'll be good. All tests have the same format with a bonus question. You must read the textbook and listen in class. Assigns a lot of work
Professor Valenzuela makes lectures interesting, humorous, and easy to follow. He cares about his students and goes above and beyond to help them understand the material. Class is not mandatory, but go anyway. If you pay attention and take decent notes, the pop quizzes (10) and tests (3) will be easy.
If you want to pass, go to class! His tests are based off of what he says in class and he gives 10 pop quizzes (drops the lowest 2). He also gives a lot of reading every week from the free, online textbook. His quizzes are based off of the reading and are extremely easy if you learned all the terminology. He is a great professor if you work hard.
He is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. As long as you do the chapter readings and take notes on the key terms then you will be able to do very well on all of the pop quizzes. Take note that you will have a pop quiz anytime he comes into class with a rubber band on. The tests come straight from what he says in class. Just take notes!
Mr. Valezuela is a very funny guy and is very knowlegable. Readings are through an online collaborative textbook. There are 10 quizzes based on vocab from the readings and two are dropped. Attendance isnt mandatory but you need to be there for at least 8 out of the 10 quizzes. There are 3 multiple choice exams.
Professor Valenzuela is an amazing professor. Classes always had a new twist or turn every time. Reading is about a chapter a week, but its online and FREE! Classes also fueled by student participation, so read and engage in the topics. Grades only 10 Quizzes, but he drops the lowest 2, and 3 Tests. Great for History lovers and haters.
You can tell he loves teaching history. Showed me different/new POVs of the history I have learned 100 times. Only 3 easy tests if you show up daily and take good notes, 10 easy pop quizzes if you do the short readings/memorize few easy vocab terms from the FREE textbook. Really funny and sweet guy. If you fail it's your fault.
Best professor ever! Really taught a new perspective of American History and has a clear grading criteria. Three tests and 10 pop quizzes which is just vocab and really easy if you study them. Go to class, write notes and youll be good. I didnt use the textbook that much but its always good to read it. Its also free
Professor Valenzuela was one of my favorite professors! His lectures are easy to follow along. Pay attention in class, because most of the important information is given in his lectures, not in the readings. Class has three tests and 10 unannounced pop quizzes, but he drops the lowest 2 quiz grades. Be there for class, take notes and you'll do fine
I had Valenzuela for 2112 over the summer and he was absolutely amazing. He's the type of professor that even makes STEM majors like me appreciate history. We often left early. Class is heavily discussion based, get involved, the man is hilarious. Beware of (easy) pop quizzes. One paper. No textbook, readings provided online.
Though he may be a great in-person professor I can't say the same about online. He does not respond as fast as he says he does. 1 module quiz for every chapter. They are 5 minutes for 10 questions. He will only increase the timing of the quiz if your entire section emails him to change it. Instead of tests, he gives 3 essay questions to submit.
The class is very straightforward. Weekly quizzes and discussions. An essay-type exam every few weeks. First and foremost, Prof Valenzuela is a very kind and caring man. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he offered his utmost support. I would take him for every class if I could because his is such a kind man.
I took Professor Valenzuelas HIST 2112 class online - no regrets at all. He is a fair grader and the course syllabus maps everything out for you from day #1. His class was not hard, but you DO have to read the required assigned readings for the 14 weekly quizzes. No actual midterm test or final, but rather 3 essay papers instead. Great teacher!
Not a tough grader. Took this course summer semester during the pandemic and we had 10 quizzes(30%), a midterm essay (30%), and a final essay (40%) as our total grades. He posted lectures and other resources but the quizzes are formulated from the key terms of chapters from American Yawp (a free online textbook). Not tough, just required to read!
Valenzuela gets class discussion going on relevant topics and is a very reasonable guy. He's fun and cares about his students, especially the ones that participate. Gives fun and thought-provoking homework rather than boring stuff.
Dude grade papers like an advanced English class. Also, he is unclear about what to write about. Failed my essays in which I shouldn't have. You should pass on taking this class. This not it.
tests are 3 essays which includes the final. He is a nice man, and helps his students out. You have discussion posts every week along with weekly quizzes which can be difficult. Drops the five lowest quiz grades. His essay prompts are not the best, and it can be difficult to give the minimum for the essays. They can be answered in a paragraph.
Great teacher. Because of Covid, I had to take his class online and it wasn't bad. The only thing I would say to get an easy A in this class is to keep up with the discussion posts and read the American Yawp textbook. His quizzes are straight from that book and it's a lot of reading. 3 exams; you have to write an essay, not too bad.
I was super overwhelmed in beginning because of all the readings and key terms, but honestly stopped doing all of it bc it wasn't worth it. The quizzes are 10 questions in 10min but as long as you look over the videos and readings your fine, but reading the whole chapter isn't necessary if you watch vids
Worst history professor ever. Takes 25-30 hours each week for his class to complete assignments. He test are impossible to do well on and he thinks a class average of 40% is okay on a test.
Judging by these comments, the workload is changed pretty often. The current style of the class isn't working for me. The tests cover a LOT of material and weekly discussions aren't a good review. Get ready to memorize 6+ pages of precise dates/events/policies/politicians/acts/riots/groups/acronyms and more PER TEST, each test is 25% of your grade.
Really enjoyed this class. He's DEFINITELY not an easy A but he knows his stuff and teaches it really well, really gets into lesser-known historical events. His tests are pretty straight-forward though not necessarily easy so plan to set aside a fair amount of time to prepare. He's pretty generous with partial credit. Would definitely take again.
For this semester, we were only grades based on 3 tests, but our participation in discussion posts also counts as a test grade so 4 tests kinda. For sure not an easy A, but you're more likely to fail if you don't have good study habits to begin with, so that's on some people, not the professor. Curves tests pretty well.
He makes you work for your grade but for those who are not doing well, they need to study and watch his lectures and do the study guides and actually study for a long time. His study guides are great and go off his lectures and some of the textbook. Study hard and do the study guide on your own and the tests will be easy.
I enjoyed class with Professor Valenzuela's. History is not my thing but he was very straightforward and the graded workload was very light. He provides fairly long video lectures but they are worth a watch especially if you are not interested in doing any textbook reading. Lots of memorization due to 3 tests and very long study guides! Take him!!
Professor Venezuela is a hard grader. Attendance is mandatory. Beware of pop-quizzes! Lots of reading and studying outside of class due to the material given and the pop-quizzes. Needed to study 10+ hrs for his class. There are 10 quizzes during the semester but he drops the lowest 3 scores. Quizzes are vocab-based and matching.
