She needs to brush up on her teaching skills
Biggest mistake is to take a class w Handley. I dont know how a person like that can have a PhD. She does not know how to teach...she's too old..she changes lab instructions and you end up staying overtime...should get fired but wont bc of experience
People told me she was a whoribble but i thought she would be fair, as in you work for what you get. but this women is CRAAAAZY. I have never had a worse teacher, EVER. she doesnt know basic algebra, i always correct her mistakes. WORST TEACHER BAR NONE
The Rumos are true... hard work on a lab will get you a 7/10 every time. Picky as hell. Dont plan on gettin an A in this class. She is SLOOOOOW and has some problems. I think she takes her bitterness out on her studnets.

She is horrible. If she doesn't like you, then you will definitely get a C or lower. If she likes you, you might get a B.
This professor made my time at GCC unbearable. For example, I recieves a C- that I answered all correctly. She counts off for the stupidest things. For comparason after nearly failing her class and ruining my GPA I aced every other chem class I ever took.
I must admit that she's not that much of a good teacher, and she is kind of hard. However, I found her lectures fairly understandable, but she is very picky about significant figures and details in lab reports!

This class is the hardest class I have ever taken in my 13 years of schooling (Although I got an A) it did not come easy!!! She does know her topic very well though, but her class is also extremely boring. She is wayyy too picky on her labs

she is absolutely crazy. she is picky on everything. you always stay till the last second of the lab and the class. on test days she even teaches new things AFTER the test even if you have 3 min left. she is terrible. avoid her.
She is paranoidal. Bitter and excessively controlling. She will pick on everything, even on how you write your name on the paper! Last name comes first, lecture notes should be stampled in front, etc. She always shakes from nervousness. Terrible teacher.
Boring,boring,boring class. She lectures on unrelated stuff like how to turn on a bunsen burner, or sink for hours; she adds pictures too. Her exams are in chapters ahead, her lectures on the exams suck,labs are picky, GCC DO SOMETHING ...... TIME TO RETIRE >>>>>.....
she is a perfectionist, everything has to be her way or no way if you can follow instructions take her you'll be fine. She might be boring at times but she is also very nice.
she's not an easy teacher at all but if u study hard u can get a good grade. her lectures are excellent. u dont have to read the book if u have her lectures.
very anal teacher and is not very helpful when you ask her questions. she tries to stick to the schedule even when the class is behind because she cancelled a couple classes. boring lectures and she often loses her concentration in the middle of them.
I love chemistry and the sciences yet due to this teacher and the head of the department I will no longer be taking anymore classes at GCC in the science department. Due to the fact that only one student earned an A gave students grades they did not earn in order to create a proper distibution.
She is always late even during tests. Very hard, picky, stressful, unhelpful... She does not know her subject and she is so confusing. It's time to retire! The worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. Do not take her!!!
She's kind hearted; however, she lacks the ability to teach well. Her exams are easy, but her fastidious grading leaves you with low marks. An A is possible if an individual has a strong chem. background or if he/she can understand the concept easily. All I have left to say is I hate Le Chartier.

Dr. Hnadley is someone who descriminates her students alot she is very strict during Chemistry lab hours and walks behind you and watches you if you do something wrong without you knowing someone is behind you and she will scream. she is not helpful at all. Her tests are very easy but she takes points off for spelling a simple thing wron.
DO NOT TAKE HER WHATSOEVER!! OMG she made me HATE chemistry... she should def. go into a career that does not require her to teach ANYTHING!!!!

Well i must say that Dr. Handley can be mean sometimes, but i asked her questions many times and she actually helped me, and was nice. Ey her tests are easy, don't complain, obviously it's chem, you should do your part too. But i must say that she does have an attitude, and damn she is an extrememly hard grader. Make sure your papers are perfect.
She doenst know how to teach any chem at all. She just copies whatever is on her yellow paperpad. In her lectures, there isnt any room for questions, having anyone ask her after class and in her office hours in which most people cant make.Plays favorites.Makes mistakes and expects students to understand her mistakes just by rewriting over again.
She is boring and crazy. she doesnt let peopel laugh in class but she laughs alone and nobody understands why she is laughing. i got an a in her class because i learned stuff before not becasue she explains well. her notes are extremely long and everything will be on the tests. more than half students in my class dropped. she cares about spelling

Run for your life! I read all the comments prior to enrolling in Dr. Handley's class; however, for lack of time and lack of a better choice, I was forced to take her. She is extremely condescending and doesn't look up from her notes to take questions! We spent a month covering chapter 1 and covered 3 chapters in a week at the end of the semester.
Sorry but she has ruined chemistry for me. I have never had such a bitter taste in my mouth from a teacher. Being a prof is not for her. She is really losing her mind. Sadly she is an old cat woman, who does not see that she is the ones who comes off with an attitude first. Get far away from her, AVOID HER. You will save yourself lots madness

Had some really great profs at GCC, but she was terrible. An insecure, useless professor who clearly had no interest in teaching (other than pulling a paycheck). I hate to bash her so hard, but she was the worst professor I had all through college (and I'm 3 weeks from finishing my Masters!) and all of my classmates at the time agreed.
I agree with everything in the previous post except that I DO think she tries. My biggest beef - incorrect grading and in-class examples. Also low degree of professionalism. For those of you who find this site too late, my suggestion is to rely heavily on the textbook. I managed a decent grade that way.
By far the worst professor at GCC. She talks down to the class and gets upset when corrected. She makes plenty of mistakes when she give example problems and gives you a sarcastic smile and annoying laugh when you correct her. She is not helpful at all. DONT TAKE HER CLASS!!! You'll regret it.

Fussy & unclear. I topped class, bec I studied fr the book. Very picky w/ answers & puts essay questions on chem exams (to test you abt concepts). She seems to feel attacked when a student inquires too much / corrects her. Frustrates many students, even me. She's nice if you excel & don't contradict too much. Attend class but study fr the textbook.
If you're registered for her next class, do yourself a favor and drop it by all means. Words cannot express how bad this lady teaches. She grades like a Nazi and cannot do basic algebra. Take this comment literally and seriously! Stay away! Please retire Handley!

She is clueless, unclear, lacks social skills and common sense not to mention you cant talk to her and you if you try all she does is confuse you more or piss you off. I looked at this site just to see if the worst professor I ever had was on here. BTW, I love going to college. I had this poor excuse for inst., just for lab. I graduated over in Cell/Molecular Biology 11 years ago, 3.6 GPA. The previous comments are dead on! I dropped the class while I was still getting an "A" in the lecture on principle alone.
OMG!! if you could take another teacher...YOU SHOULD! but if you really really really have to i recommend buying the book...It's very helpful...do the homework problems because she takes some of the exam questions from there...also you must must study the study guide she gives...Avoid asking her questions. She doesn't like giving full credit!!!!!
I don't know why people complain about her so much. I think she is a nice teacher. You just have to listen to her, shes smart.
The last comment is such a rude outburst. First, learn to spell, second, come to chemistry class. Just because you cannot speak English, you should not blame your professor. She is a smart professor, and with very good manners. I enjoyed her class and learned a lot so I am fine going to 101.
1. Gives prepared lectures 2. In-class demonstrations daily 3. Exams, quizzes, and lab tests(drops one of each) 4. Do HW..study notes...Exams aren't hard...straightforward. Will not tolerate cell-phone use in class, or talking! 6. A large class is not easy for a Prof. to administer.. many in the class have HS mentality..thus they don't like her.
Can you say BORING? she sits at her seat and writes all class on her projector. Very monotone voice, and really soft spoken, so you cannot hear her in the back. she lacks life, literally its like her dog died before she comes to class because she is so down and mellow. All in all, maybe the most boring class ive ever taken.
She is a very smart lady, she writes all the notes you will need on her projector and you just copy and study it. As long as you do the homework that she assigns but doesn't collect you will do find in her class. Also try not to miss any labs or her lecture quiz it will affect your grade and make sure your capitals on you elements look like caps.

If you are not a hard-working student, stay away from her. But if you are willing to do whatever she says, you'll be fine. all her tests are from what she lectures, she drops 1 of the tests(5-total and final), lots of quizes, study guide.and chem110 is not that hard. just make sure you do at least all of the even number problems at the end.
Absolutely the WORST teacher I have ever had. I am already an overachiever and I have to repeat this class because this teacher is just horrible. Shes boring, monotonic, cannot grade. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Honestly, probably the worst teacher you can sign up for. I took 110 with her, took 101 and 102 with different teachers and regret not taking 110 with a different teacher. Most people don't like teachers because they don't do well, but I'm telling you now.... RUN. All 60+ students in the lecture hall hated her and thats a fact. HORRIBLE!

NO! DO NOT TAKE HER, well unless you want to fail, then do so. HARD tests, consist of a part of multiple choice then the rest are a mix of concept questions, essay/explain type, and problem solving. If you have a cough, don't bother showing up in class bec. she'll get mad at you and embarrass in class.
Well, she is not an easy teacher but people make horrible comments about her, and it is not fair. She is not the best, but she explains the material, and she is very soft spoken, so it is hard to hear her sometimes. But if you put an effort, she helps you out.
This lady is a horrible teacher. If you are not willing to study hard and push yourself hard don't bother with this class. Chem 110 is an easy class, but if you leave it to her she will complicate the simplest things and treat you like an idiot. The book is your best friend in this class not her. Take lecture notes to pass time.

The material itself is not hard at all. She just tends to not be clear about it and she hates to repeat herself so if you ask questions frequently be careful because you might end up on her bad side. The tests are manageable but this class requires a lottt of studying (I would suggest from the book).
Don't take her Class! I had her only for lab and got a C For the lecture I've gotten an A. Does it seem fair? She deducts points for misspellings, missing dates, etc.Everybody in the class just hated her.Oh and she makes copy her lectures word by word. Missing a word costs you a point.

Chem is not easy so get over it. Dr. Handley taught it the best she could when the students are basically on their 5th year of high school. She respects students that show good grades and follow lab procedure. I got an A in the class and lab. If you think you're going to become a doctor by slacking off in a course like this, get a reality check.
This professor DO NOT LIKE To Teach. as from my experience....she deduct points for ridiculous unnecessary reason. For not writing your name in a certain way, not sitting in the right seat...misspelling...she is just ruthless...she doesn't do the calculations right...the students have to correct her...JUST DONT STAY AWAY FROM THIS LADY!!

Im a straight A student but failed her class. The class was not hard itself but she made it impossible. Basically, I lost/failed my quizzes tests labs because she deducts points from misspelling, no dates etc. IF YOU DONT WANT TO FAIL DONT TAKE HER. she put myself esteem down!
