ok prof! needs to work on her teaching skills
Great Prof! She knows her sexuality material!
It was an online course and she was one of the TA's. Horrible, worst teacher ever! Comments are like: ...I don't know where your head was... . The guys I was talking to all said the same, they don't learn anything, she only confused us. She was supposed
very easy course if you read the text. tests are a breeze and no papers to write! lectures are useless to attend but you do recieve up to 21% of your grade just to attend 7 1 hour tutorials
i cannot say enough bad thins about this prof. she doesn't know her sexuality material, her lectures are straight from the text (which is awful), and she is increadibly biased in all her opinions. This class tried to teach values in a condescending dehumanizing way. DON'T TAKE IT!
Class is easy, teacher is horrible. Teaching skills amount to a big zero. This class is completely useless as you are encouraged to lie how some of these pointless theories apply to your everyday life. If you do not lie - you are penalized for not firmly believing in the theories.
I am not to impressed with her teaching skills. She gave the lecture notes for the course and all she does in class is talk about them for 3 hours and it is not really helping us. If you have a choice between her and someone else for this course, take someone else.
sucked
I had Judith for AHSC 260 and by far, she was my worst teacher i had ever had. She givevs the lecture notes to the class, and during every class lecture, all she does is discuss them for 3 hours. Her T.A. was an idiot also saying every class that in every one of her classes she has gotten an A+.
Bad teaching skills
Diversity class has changed my perspective of many prejudice i earlier had... very understanding... and very "Bubbly"!
One of the best classes I ever took. The instructor is approachable, and makes herself available. The course really challenges you to think and become more aware of choices you make. I came into this class thinking I new quite a bit about communications and relationships and I am leaving with a better understanding of the Subject. Thumbs up.
Ihave read someof the comments about this course and I disagree. Yes she gave the notes and the courseis very dry but she was available, exam was fair, brought in guest speaker and material for promotion. Very understanding, supportive and professional. Average to good teaching skills. I enjoyed the class but she may not be for everyone.
Great experience in this course.I have had her before and would take her again. She's not as good in large classes but good in smaller ones. She is very personable, available to students, good with e-mail, does films, speakers and knowledgeable in what she teaches. Fair exams and supportive. Over all a good teacher. Lecturing skills need work.
Judith was an awesome teacher for self-manage learning. Out of all the courses she taught, this is her strength. She definetly brings her real life experience and helpful tools to this course. WARNING: It is not an easy course and alot of writing but if you are looking for a meaningful course, take it.
One of the best classes I have ever taken and I took it on a Saturday morning. I learnt so much about my self, about communication and real practical tools I actually could use the very same day. A must take course. Judith is committed to her students and to their learning. One of my best classes ever. Not my first with her but the best one yet.
I enjoyed everything about this class. I thought Judith was excellent. Very interesting lectures, text, etc.....one of my best classes to date.
This professor is very helpful, she could help you through e-mail late at night (if she is not too tired). She shares her own experiences with students, so you really learn something in her class. She is not harsh but you certainly need to study to get "A". You will have a different point of view of life span once you finish the class. Good luck
The nicest and sweetest professor I have ever had. She wants everyone do well in her class and she is concerned about all of her students well being. It is best to take her in smaller classes if you can.
Prof was great, present, open challenging. She s very tell-it-like it is. Loved her, but had issues with my group.
I found this class to be very difficult. Judith is a great person, maybe relies too much on her T.A.s. If you take this class be prepared to work hard writing journals and to talk alot in front of a large group (about personal things). Not an easy class.
tests were way too hard.
honestly the journals are hard. no matter how hard you try you will never get perfect NEVER. she is super nice, you truly learn a lot from the course. i took it because i thought it would be easy it's not but my god i left with a new understanding of myself. discussions, films, fun!!!!!!!
Teacher is very kind and is always willing to help you! However, the lectures are very very boring while she lectures directly from the book by reading out loud the chapters... Hence, if you stay at home you will not miss anything you read the book.
Great class, interesting professor, always available to help her students. Really big class though and lectures are a bit dry like most intro classes. Fair marker and distribution of exams since there is a lot of material to cover in a very short time. All in all it was a good experience and I would recommend it.
I loved this class but it was not easy. Journals and paper are really challenging. I had to work really hard. Meeting with the teacher was very helpful. I would recommend it as she knows her stuff. My marks improved once I understood where I was going off. She is available as far as profs go. I walked away with lots of practical skills.
Avoid this woman, she's the worst thing that ever happened to the department. Absolutely useless! Her arrogance is hidden well beneath a tree-hugging front. I would've dropped the class if it wasn't mandatory. Try taking it with another prof, maybe it won't be so awful.
Wow what an intense course. I learnt so much. Challenging. Good teacher and helpful T.A.'s.Teacher knows her stuff, approachable and will work with you to succeed but you have to put the work into it. It was a great experience and I hope I get to work with her again. Highly recommended.
shes a nice teacher but her classes are seriously hard. at first you will have the impression that she doesnt like you, but once you know her she has a very good heart. but still, her ahsc 232 class was the hardest ive ever had in uni!
Horrible teacher! She thinks that her opinions are the right ones and any other opinions are wrong. Very difficult to communicate with her. Not helpful at all! I really did not like the class.
I am very suspicious about this site especially about this teacher... there is 6 pages of comments which is alot compared to the other teachers that teach the same class. I wonder if the teacher herself read those and reply in a positive way.. very strange!!!
She is a very lousy teacher. Although the class activities are fun, they are not related to the exam material and she doesn't give any lectures. The very few times she gave a lecture she read straight from her piece of paper which seemed to be point form notes that came with her textbook. She was also very slow to give grades/feedback back.
Very confusing teacher. she mentions one thing and constantly changes her mind, very strict on expectations for written assignments and contradicts notions learnt in class when applied to favour students. very arrogant and direct when adressing students, though she might not intend to intentionally offend students. logs have to be extremely detaile
One of the hardest but one of the best classes I ever did. I am walking away with lots of learning. Wish I had taken the course earlier. The professor was available, knows her stuff and did a good job but it is a lot of work but well worth the experience.
Really interesting course, lots of fun activities, films and guest speakers but I had difficulties with my group. Class discussions would have worked better if more people participated. Teacher did her best to get discussions going T.A. was not really helpful. Still I got a lot from the course and would recommend it.
This was one of the best classes I have taken. I really got a lot out of it. The teacher is available knows her stuff and will work with you but you have to put the work in to. Its not an easy class. I had a really good group in this class and we still hang out.
awesome...the best. Highly recommend... you actually learn something that you can use out in the real world
This is a very though course and this instructor makes it way thougher. Avoid take this course with her. She is not clear what she wants and her marking is Extremely hard.
Absolutely HORRIBLE teacher! Awful with communicating, if you ask a question she always confuses you more by answering very broadly. She always asks for specifics but is never specific herself. Very ambiguous when explaining tasks. Unhelpful, and unaccommodating. One of the worst profs I've had at ConU, avoid her! She should not be teaching
For the whole semester, I hated that class with a passion because it was very very demanding. It is not an easy class and you can not expect to score high. However, now I find that my hard work is paying off for class 330 and other classes. I realize that I learned a lot and it will be useful in real-life.The teacher is strict but she is fair.
Very hard marker. I have never received below a B+ since I began University and she has somehow given me an extremely low mark on a reflective log. I am thinking about dropping this class and losing the money to save my GPA.
Judith comes across as a teacher who is working because she wants to retire. The class teaches how to become a better communicator, but if you were to apply her instructions to your life then you would call yourself a better communicator, while everyone else calls you a a55hole. The class was interesting but I suggest getting a better teacher.
Judith is a really hard marker and she expects a lot from her students. It's very hard to get in the A range in her class but she really makes sure that you understand the theory very well. Tries to push the group into conflict which is good, because that's the point of the class!
Pros: Available, approachable, nice, down to earth, ready to help. You will learn a lot. Cons: AMBIGUOUS! Lacks clarity in explanations, doesn't encourage creativity as she quickly shoots down your team's ideas and suggestions.
Awful teacher, i should have checked rate my prof before i took this class with her! very unclear, ambiguous,no examples, VERY HARD MARKER. She doesnt give good grades (what she told us first class)I've never had such a horrible experience.
She is the worst professor I have ever had in my 5 years of university experience. She is unclear and ambiguous in her explanations and expectations for the assignments as well as on feedback received on completed assignments. She is a hard marker and does not clearly state where marks are taken off. She gave back an assignment a whole month later.
horrible horrible horrible teacher. NEVER take her!!!Her explanations are horrible, extremely hard marker and expects everyone to write what she wants. She likes to hear herself talk and often has useless lectures not relevant to whats on the exam. DO NOT TAKE JUDITH GRAD! Do yourself the favor!
Had this professor for 2 classes, learnt a lot, gives lots of feedback, cares about students, hard marker but fair and gives you a chance to redo your paper. You have to work in her classes to get a good mark.
Loved this course and professor's approach. Very original and interesting. Had a great group. Over all thumbs up and highly recommend this class and professor.
Wow this class changed the way I look at being a student and how I approach classes. I learnt a lot of new skills and have seen my marks improve since I started. A great course to take in your first or second year and if you have trouble getting the marks you want.
Different then what I expected but really learnt a lot. Very interactive class with lots of discussions, films, guest speakers and research project. Good class and good professor
Freakiest class ever. Make you hold hands and scream .Weirdest class ever!
Worst teacher I've ever had in university so far.. Very hard marker, Four assignments of 15 pages, 1 final paper, 2 exams and 1 oral.. A lot of readings with 3 really expensive books.. Unclear guidelines.. Avoid this teacher at all costs!! she will destroy ur GPA for an useless class... Do yourself a favor and Take Tim Farmer for AHSC 232 instead!!
Do yourself a favor and take this course. I learnt so much. If time management is an issue for you or procrastination this course will help you. Its helped me and I am doing better in all of my other courses because of this. The teacher is great and really cares about her students...
Wow not easy but I learnt so much. Its a lot of work. The material involves a lot of reading and writing but you get a lot of feedback on the work. Liked the prof. approachable but sometimes explanations are not clear but will work with you if you need help. Is available and answers e-mails quickly. Over all liked my experience.
Good prof. easy to talk to, gives lots of feedback, exams based on book only but also gives lectures for added information. Sometimes instructions could be clearer but is available and will take the time to talk with you. Accessible by phone and e-mail and will even Skype if you need to speak to here outside of class. Worth taking this class.
Horrible teacher, huge amounts of weekly assignments, hard grader, confusing instructions, mean, etc. Avoid at all costs! This teacher has the ability to turn a class as ridiculous as analazying a group into complex rocket science.
Students are assigned to home-groups and I was lucky enough to be in a good group. The lectures are kind of boring, she does not make them very interesting but most of the time you are working with your classmates; which spices things up. You have many logs to hand out and 15 pages to write by the end of the semester.
I have had many professors before Judith but oh my Wow, she is the toughest grader I have ever seen. If you have a choice between this teacher and another one, choose the latter. It's ridiculous.
You have to work in this class. Fair marker and if you do the reading you can do well in this class. Prof. Is available, answers emails and gives lots of feedback. Not an easy class but I feel I actually learnt something. If you are doing it just to up your GPA be prepared to work. I have had this prof. Before and would take her again.
Nice person, terrible teacher. Cons: Lectures are boring, notes are all over the place, guidelines are unclear. Pros: Judith is cool and if you pick a good group for projects + do all the readings you'll do fine. Mostly a self-taught class.
Very different class. Part of the work is in teams but the way it was set up I had the best experience ever. Topics covered are relevant unlike other classes I've taken. You have to read and do work in this class to get a good mark but it's not a hard class. I had this teacher for 230 abd did well and would take her again for another class.
This class has been what one might call truly pivotal experience for me in my personal and academic life. As my instructor in this class and AHSC 232, Judith made this experience as productive and meaningful as possible. The encouragement I got and providing a safe space for students to learn and grow in.
By far the worst teacher I've encountered in my academic journey! I've done 6 years of college and university! She hates men and will grade you according to what she feels like. She will not give you any help and will not tell you how to improve. Hard exams & long papers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! take Tim Farmer instead! It was hell on earth...
I took 230 with another prof, and got an A+ in the class, and was really optimistic and hopeful about 232. Her lectures were abysmal, confusing, and left out a lot of info. Her study guides gave no guidance about what should be focused on for the tests, and I barely passed them. I gave up on the class, and took it with a better prof to pass.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. She gives no instructions for her exams "just read the book" and barely goes through the material for the exams. She also gives an tons of workload to do and it's all due at the same time. ex: We have a 40 minute group presentation, a 12 page final paper and another assignment all due in the same week.
stay away; stay very far away. you will literally die in class of boredom. someone else told to me to not take her but I did anyway. that was a huge mistake; don't make the same one.
Jaded (adjective): tired, bored, or lacking enthusiasm, typically after having had 2 much of something. She may inspire you to drop out of your program, for the rest shes very uninspiring. Shes had it & it shows. Theres better out there. B wise when you pick your teachers. Time for retirement. Terrible teacher. Not a good asset.
I was hesitant to take Professor Grad's class because of the negative reviews Ive read. I love the way she teaches, shes tough but fair. She's awesome and very supportive. Prof. Grad gives a lot of valuable feedback which helps in the logs and final paper. She's there for you and wants you to grow.
Took this prof. for 230 and love it and hope to take her again. She's available to work with you, gives lots of feedback. I had a good experience and would recommend her.
She is very straight forward. just do the work and you will pass. the more work you do the better your grade will be. She is accessible when you need help.
Boring lectures with mandatory attendance. You really don't learn anything in this class. Her assignments don't make sense. She's a very particular grader. Won't give you back your marks even if you make reasonable arguments - Acts as if she is open to it. Group project really brings down your grade. Wont consider the fact you put more effort.
You will either like how she teaches or won't. I've taken 2 other classes with her and did well. l've gotten a lot from her classes and as an instructor she makes herself available, gives lots of feedback and encourages participation. I recommend her and have had a good experience.
Tests are easy if you at least review the material She grades papers very critically. She is not the most interesting teacher but her work load is manageable.
This teacher gives me mixed feelings. I learned some things with her and made me wake up as a student and got me to study much better. However, she is a really tough grader. You will feel like you have done a good job and the grade won't reflect it. The textbook is common sense. Just read it for the 2 MCQ midterms. This class is common sense.
Average B+ student down a grade point because, not only are her classes blah; as she just sits there and reads of her PowerPoints which are, just like her, unclear at best. She can be very rude, not just to me but all her students. That being said, she has her rare moments where she teach you something practical and be help you out. Real challenge!
Seems to side with certain students, if she doesn't like you from the start you'll get crappy grades no matter how much work you put in. Would not take again.
AVOID taking this prof. Assignments are graded harshly with unclear instructions and feedback isn't useful. Save your GPA while you still can
Challenging, fair marker and you can't just do well without putting the work into it. Did this course in the summer, but really feel like it has helped me with my other classes. Didn't like the class while I was doing it but really glad I had Judith as I learned more than I thought I had. Be prepared to work in her classes.
She has a preconceived mindset of what she wants and expects from her students. If you don't do things exactly as she wants you won't get a good grade no matter how hard you work. excruciatingly boring, but the key is get her to like you and you'll do okay!
Judith is a tough grader but she gives clear feedback and it is possible to improve your grades if you put in the work. She is knowledgeable about her subject and is accessible outside class. Lectures can get boring sometimes.
She is a rude person that does attitude to the student when they don't understand. she also gives passive agressive comments on the papers you do and on your personal opinions
Cares about students learning. Available if youre having difficulties. Expects you to be responsible for your learning. Gives feedback that challenges you. I think she brings out what possible even when I resist. She makes me think for myself. You can disagree with her but she will push back so you got to know or at least argue effectively .
lots of students in my class blamed the teacher for their own irresponsibility. she is a great teacher, you just need to adapt to her style of correcting and learning. only thing that sucked was the group exam since its very likely your teammates will not study.
I had Judith for AHSC 316 and i found her to be amazing. I loved how she let the students teach each other by doing orals throughout the semester. She acknoledges that her lectures are really boring so that was her way of trying to accomodate. She's also very nice and takes he time to acknoledge each student as they walk in. Her tests are tough tho
She basically had us teach the class for her, we had to spend 50$ on a coursepack for one reading our group needed to present. From the beginning of the semester half the class was her reading from notes on a power point and the other half was a group presenting. Extremely boring. Vague and confusing questions on tests, no one did that well.
The way she teach isn't optimal at all, the workload is ridiculous and she's the hardest grader I ever had. You will get bad grade, because you will understand what she really wants after the log 3, she's not clear of what she wants and she doesn't want it any other way. Hopefully you might get a nice TA.
VERY boring teacher. VERY boring lecturer. Monotone voice. She is kind, but she will make you WORK for a SHABBY grade. You need to attend every class- or you WILL fail.
she treats her 200 level like a 400 level. the amount of work she gives is unreasonable for an introductory course. it is a prerequisite so i you might have to take her but try to get into the other section if possible . she answers her emails quickly but she is also very rigid with her arbitrary class rules. if you have a choice do not take her.
She can be difficult to follow at first but if you follow to the T the instructions for the papers you will get a very good grade.
Though grader, harsh feedback that tends more to the negative but comes out as ranting. Her lecture put me to sleep, you can read the slides on your own as she just reads over them. She tries to force participation instead of facilitating it or creating a good environment. If you can avoid her I recommend that.
Although the course material itself is very heavy, Judith is a very caring, honest, approachable and empathetic professor. One of not many that will postpone your deadline of cancel the quiz if needed. I would take all the classes with her if I could. Very inspirational!
I don't care if she is old school or asked us to attend mandatorily. What bothers me is no matter how much effort you put in, you will still get a low grade. Unreasonable grading method.
She treats AHSC courses that are mostly based on self-reflection as if they were STEM classes. By assessing students' work based on their ability to "reflect" on their experience, she is only creating impossible grading standards. When you ask for concise guidelines about what she wants from you, she will say "dig deeper". Avoid it.
Prof Grad was great! I really liked her. There was a lot of work to do in this class regarding assignments and readings but I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class material. I think Grad went above and beyond to help us students, especially in this difficult time. Very patient and caring :)
Awful class, grading, and prof. Grading is very subjective, and the workload is intense. You won't be motivated to complete the HW because you already know that no matter what you write, your grade won't reflect your effort or thought process. Unhelpful lectures. Plus, she has favorites, which is very obvious. Just avoid unless you like sucking up.
