UMMM...
I felt this professor should teach a math course further along because freshman need time to adjust to college life and she is really a fast teacher.
OMG i took this class with her twice and did horrible both times. She's very fast and soo not helpful. She gives quizzes like every other day and her test are very hard. Worst teacher i've ever taken at UNO.
Horrible teacher, please avoid taking her if possible
Very fast teacher
horrible she does not know how to explain anything and moves to damn fast. she lets us out twenty minutes early that how fast she teaches a lesson
Professor Nowalsky is direct and gives opportunities of dropping some lower scores such as hmwks and quizzes. She gives out notes each day, and quizzes every other day which are GOOD for study guides for tests. She is a very good teacher; however a majority of the class complained way too much about her teaching speed which was totally normal!
Judith Nowalsky is a HORRIBLE professor, she has no expertise in proper teaching mechanisms, whatsoever. Everyday when I arrive to class I am only looking forward to when it will be over! She does not teach AT ALL, Nowalsky simply writes problems on the board and "review", but it is solely up to the student to teach themselves the material.
Nowalsky is a horrible professor! I can't believe teaching is her profession. She doesn't explain ANYTHING! DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
RUSHES TO MUCH
She should not teach. AT ALL. She doesn't do anything but write on the board. If you dont know something she says go back and learn it. So Useless. Im sure she is good at math but it is a crime to pay her. MathLab is compulsary. The website grades our homework, teaches us and grade the exams. If you cannot teach yourself, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Nowalsky works at a very fast pace, writes small and lacks the ability to explain what she`s doing. She`s actually quite nice, but her teaching is very poor. Do not take her.
I wish that I knew of this website before I took her this semester. Boring, lets you out of class 20 mins after you get there. ONe day she came in class and said that she wasn't going to teach if you have questions stay if not leave. I'm paying your salary and youre not going to teach?! I pray I do not fail my exam this weekend!
she is the worst teacher i have taken during my college career. She would copy exactly what was on her paper, sometimes the class would catch a mistake, she?d say ?I must have copied it down wrong?. A teacher that copies down directly from their notes is obviously not communicating the material to the students. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Horrible teacher....DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!! Take Ms. Olvaney instead.
She works at a fast pace BECAUSE what she teaches are practically things you should have learned in eighth grade. Her class may be boring or bland, but if you pay attention and try to work things out on your own, you'll be fine. If you can't do that, I suggest you invest your time with a different professor.
I love Professor Nowalsky. Before, I was failing this class. I went to the tutoring center and she helped me A LOT and took out her time to make sure I understood what she was teaching. She pressured me to try harder. I recommend her to everyone! BUT, you have to study and practice. I'm taking her next semester for 1115! :D
Whatever you do DO NOT take this class. Everyone in there has taken this class with her at least 3 times and for some reason she is the only one teaching it more then once a week. She is nearly impossible to pass and should truly look into a new profession.
Took this class in a fast-paced summer session. In that class, Nowalsky presented new material every day (accompanied by notes that were downloadable before hand) then spent a lot of time on individual help. The summer session did not have lab time, but homework and quizzes did use Pearson. It helped to download the notes and review ahead of time.
To fast. Does not explain. Responds to most questions with "go to the math lab". Though she did get easier on us as class went on she just not a good teacher.
its a teach yourself class or you'll fail but i learned everything in highschool so i passed, if you dont know how to do it, then get a dif. prof. she lets out 20 mins early every day also. and can not teach for anything.. i wouldnt recommend her..
She was wonderful. She was great at explaining. She was a teacher that wanted you to do well. Gives out several worksheets to help and gives great reviews before test. I recommend her to anyone taking Math 1115
I'm not good in math at all, but this teacher made this 1115 class a breeze. If I was ever confused about something, I'd stay after class and she was more than willing to help with whatever I needed. One of the best math teachers I've had at UNO.
Most students will not understand her teaching style. She covers the info quickly in class so that she can spend more time with the students that really need and want the help. Those that do not need or desire to ask for help are free to go. If you talk to her she really wants all her students to do well and will help IF YOU ASK.
She jumps too fast that I couldn't understand her class since the 1st day I attended her class. She only gave us the examples. As you know.the we need the rule in case we can slove the math problems. She doesn't explain anything, the only two things she done is write every examples in class, and tell us go to math tutour center.Sounds diffcultly.
Pretty useless teacher. One could argue the reason she teaches the way she does is because we should have already learned it but then... why are we in that class? Classes are 15-30 min long. Doesn't explain. If you ask a question she responds like you're an idiot.
She knows her math and as others have said, she quickly explains topics then uses the rest of the time to help students who want it. You have to ask her for help - she isn't there to hold anyone's hand, but she will if you truly need it.
This was the worst teacher at University of New Orleans...hands down. She talks toward the bored and has no interaction with students at all. She does not explain anything, instead, she just wants you to do the work on the online math homework website. Being in her class is just like taking a online math class with no human interaction.
As others have said, she does move a bit fast, but if you ask her to explain something she does try to help (although she doesn't always do the best job of clearing up confusion). Also this is more of a personal gripe, but she often prints using legal paper, which is too long to fit in an average binder without folding it.
I absolutely loved her class, and I am terrible in math. She is very straightforward. She is willing to help you IF you ask her, so don't fret. She can be boring because she isn't very animated with her students, but that's it. She doesn't grade hard either. She tends to let out her students early sometimes, which is a plus (:
She is an awesome professor, I loved her. I am absolutely terrible in math, but she made it extremely easy. Although she is very monotone and lacks animation with her students, she is more than willing to help you IF you ask her. She also tends to let students out early, which is awesome.
She's a great teacher. She may not seem very friendly at first but she can be very nice. Her class is very straightforward and she sometimes goes a fast but if you need help she will be very happy to do so if you ask. She's very sweet and doesn't grade hard. She wants you to do is work hard and do the work. Plus she lets you leave early.
I took Ms. Nowalsky for the summer, and she is the best Math teacher I've ever had. She's funny, and very concerned with making sure everyone passes. If you have any questions, she's willing to stay after class (which is usually around 20-30 mins.), making sure you fully understand what is being taught. I wish I could take her for every Math class!
Ms. Nowalsky is exactly what any teacher should be: she explains the material, provides examples, and assigns homework. If you want frills then don't take her class. The exams come straight from the notes and MyMathLab. If you go to class and do your work, you will pass with flying colors.
Goes too fast during her examples and notes in class and gets angry when someone askes a question. Also doesn't help her students as much during her office hours.
I never felt it was necessary to rate a professor before, but this one is so bad I had to say something. She does not teach. She sends worksheets by email and writes answers on board in class. After that, class is dismissed. If you hang around to ask questions, she belittles you. She leaves things off study guides for tests, too. Avoid her!
I thought she was a cool teacher and that she was going to be really helpful, but i was wrong she is always in a hurry and forgets things pretty quickly. She barely teaches you, mymathlab does all the work. In case you are really good at math than this might be a good class for you, but if you suck at taking tests & want help, don't take this class
Very easy. Just do your homework and online quizzes and the test are cake.
I normally am very good in math and get A's in it. But Nowalsky is not a good teacher. She does not explain anything. She only writes out the problem and solution but does not explain how to solve it. Avoid her if you can.
Professor Nowalsky is great. She explains everything. If you have problems let her know. She is always in the math lab looking for students to help. It's important to do the homework and quizzes. The test are exactly like the study guides. I strongly recommend her
does not explain well at all. very difficult class if you are not prepared to teach yourself. good think mymathlab has a help me solve this button. definitely have to learn everything on your own
Ms. Nowalsky could be a good teacher but she talks to the board, never really allowing anyone to ask questions. You will learn everything on mymathlab anyway. She never does an actual review in class. Take someone else if possible, very boring and high drop rate.
She doesn't teach. You print out her notes and she does them on the board (really fast and makes it impossible to copy down fully) without explaining HOW to do the problem. If you take her class you'll just be teaching yourself.
OH MY GOODNESS. WORST PROFESSOR EVER. She didn't help at all. She zoomed through the lectures. If you have trouble with math, do not take this professor.
Whatever you do don't take this class. This professor is very unclear and when you ask her a question she gets really aggravated and asks you to go over your notes (which she makes you print on your own time which is BS) anyways, her lectures are short and don't help at all. i had to learn everything on the website cuz she's a sucky teacher.
This professor does not teach the material. She expects you to know everything and gets mad when you ask questions. Not clear at all.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. she does not explain material clearly and talks to the board!! I'm pretty good in math and I struggled in this class.
She doesn't deserve to be called a teacher. She take at most 20 minutes of the class quickly writing the examples on the board and talks at the board while shes doing it. If you ask a question she gets annoyed and either gives you a quick and not helpful response or tells you to look at your notes that she doesn't even give out herself. Avoid her.
Ms. Nowalsky was an okay teacher. She went through the lectures quickly but was willing to explain if you ask. Sometimes when you ask her a question she's quick to make assumptions and gives sarcastic replies. I believe the class was easy but if you're the type that doesn't get it the 1st or 2nd time then she will be a little difficult.
Nowalsky is by far the worst teacher I have had, and I am a junior. Her tests are only around 15-20 questions long and can be worth 20 points. Her grading scale is not clear. She does not encourage asking questions, openly mocks students, and does not curve, drop, or replace grades. I have had to reach out to the chairman of math because of her.
Dr. Nowalsky is really a good teacher. If you pay attention and actually DO my math lab and the practice problems she gives, you'll do well on the tests. Her tests are the exact same type of problems as the test review given, just different numbers.
My experience with professor Nowalsky was great. She kept it simple and that's what I loved about her lectures. I took this course before with a pretty bad professor and when I got to professor nowalsky's class , I understood everything. She's caring and will do everything to make sure you earn a good grade!!
She was very flexible to my schedule. I had a job and she did everything to help. I appreciated it very much!
I am good at Math and I find this professor very difficult to follow. She goes VERY quickly. She writes the problems very fast and moves on after briefly explaining. If asked a question, her response is very short and not very helpful. MathLab will be your best friend if you take this professor because it actually breaks down the material.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Worst thing I could have done, I had to drop and take a W. Goes way to fast during class and will not let you make up quizzes online. Lots of homework!! Be ready to attempt to take notes but she goes ridiculously fast and only does one example.
She was very difficult to follow during a lecture. I loved math until I took this class. She made me hate it. MyMathLab will probably be the only way you will be able to pass her tests. The tests were only 10-15 questions long so it is very easy to get a low grade. Good luck if you take this class, that is all I can say.
shes not clear gives terrible examples there will be 12-15 problems for a test there is only 4 test a semester. the final is 40% of your grade never take this class especially at 8 AM shes old and she explains stuff like everyone in the class has Phd's in differential equations or applied mathematics
She taught ridiculously fast-paced for no reason. She requires a lot of work to be done and then assigns a lot of work on my math lab, some of which she never teaches. She gives the basics then expects you to learn the rest on your own (which can take hours).
It appears most students do not like her because she is indeed fast, and her style of communication comes off as rude. She's far from rude. Do not take her class plan on being "lazy". An A is attainable if you're good in math, OR if you're willing to do the work in MML (easy As), visit the tutoring center when you have questions, and TAKE NOTES!
I decided to read about Nowalsky on here and other platforms, most of them were bad but it was too late to change. She can not teach math AT ALL! All she does is read off papers and copies the info down, you can tell she does not understand the material!
Hard to follow at first, but let's you do your own method in finding the answers. Gradeshands back quizzestests by next class, explains one on one correct answers. Talk to her on what you're struggling on, she will give small hints as to the way to solve it. Show work, she gives half credit, take off points for small things though.
She really does try to help the students. She goes fast, but she will stop and explain if you ask. She reads off her notes, but it's so detailed that I can't see how anyone could not understand. I barely tried and I got over a 100 in the class. Just make sure to do your work, attend class, and pay attention. Most students who struggle don't try.
Shes a hard teacher, but overall, she tries her best to help people in math.
She's a really good teacher. Whenever you find something difficult don't be afraid to ask because she will clear it up for you which can make you more confident with your work.
She goes through notes (all posted online) then gives practice sheets. She explains stuff pretty well if you don't understand. Homework and quizzes are on MyMathLab but any you miss reopen at the end. She had review days and good studyguides. There was a textbook but I never used it. A lot of people didn't care or try but she's great if you do.
I got my first ever A in a math course in Ms. Nowalsky's class. She is one of the most caring teachers I've ever had. She is very accessible during class and is willing to sit down with you if you tell her what you struggle with. She uploads all her notes which are very helpful as she follows along with them during lectures.
Very nice and caring for her students. She provides plenty of practice work for you to get the hang of what she is teaching. I find that with what she does for the students, there should be no way to fail her classes. She is very helpful and willing to show you what you missed on previous tests and quizzes.
Shes pretty straight forward with the work, puts the lessons up on Moodle and reads straight from them. Her practice exams are also damn near exactly the same as the real exams, just changes the numbers around (so if you memorize the order of questions/formulas, youll get an easy A)
A great professor! Puts all the notes on Moodle and puts every step on the board. If you have a question, shes there to help you and explain it to you. She can be silly sometimes but overall if you try, you will pass.
THIS IS THE MOST CARING TEACHER YOU COULD EVER WISH FOR. IF YOU DO NOT DO WELL, SHE GOES OUT OF HER WAY TO HELP EVERYONE. WE WOULD HAVE FAILED WITHOUT HER!! THE BEST
I have never in my life had such a caring professor. She met with me everyday and took time out of her day to help me succeed. I would have failed and possibly lost my future if she wasn't there for me. You will not find another instructor better!
She's really cool. Always willing to help if you don't understand the material. She posts the notes in Moodle and provides an answer key for NON-GRADED in-class assignments at the end of class. Allows infinity chances to get 100% on MyMathLab homework and quizzes.
She is not a good teacher! I had to drop her class because she did not explain well and had to learn from the internet. If you have other options dont get her!!!
Decent professor, however it was hard to understand some of lectured material. But she always gave me a second chance on assignments whenever I was in an unfortunate scenario. Not the best professor but I would recommend her.
I know a lot of recent reviews have been on the negative side but when i took her she was fine. She's really like any other math teacher honestly, but she does struggle a bit with technology so expect some mishaps with online class. She is also quite responsive so if you have any questions just ask her.
Professor Nowalsky was a good teacher although her in person class had assignments and tests on MyMathLab, but she always extended dates if need be. A bit fast paced but she taught the material well.
Shes amazing, gives all the material and explains everything step to step. there is no way to be lost in her class, she is always accesible and is always open to visits on her office hours to get some guidance. Shes super nice, explains everything well. Heavy on MyMathLab.
She is a very good math teacher for people who struggle with math and with keeping up in math classes, she will review and go over concepts over again for anyone who needs it. She is also very forgiving with grades and gives her students many chances to do better than before.
I got really sick for 3 weeks, like so sick that I couldn't get out of bed. I missed a test and I attempted to retake it and she said no. I explained to her that I was sick and couldn't come to class. Even emailed my doctors notes. She told me that wasn't her problem and from that moment me and her kind of didn't work out
She never accepts late work even when you missed class because you were sick and have the work in hand. And every one in the class failed her tests, and she doesnt do anything like curve the average grade or give extra credit to help people.
This woman has made me cry over math more times than I've actually been to her class.
Prof. Nowalsky's class is the easiest math I've ever taken. She does a great job of explaining material. The best thing about her class is after every lecture she gives us a practice sheet of what was just covered and helps show you what you did wrong (not graded). She offers bonus after every test, I finished with an 103% would def take this class
I loved taking Dr. Nowalsky's classes. She is very caring and helps students tremendously. She goes over work carefully and makes sure all students understand. I highly recommend this professor for people that have previously had trouble with math.
I took her class my freshman year of college. Her tests were so strictly graded, a small mistake could cost you many points. She is a nice person. Willing to help you. She does skip steps while she's teaching so that does make it confusing.
I would take Ms Nowalsky's class again personally. She gives very detailed lectures, provides tons of examples, and never be afraid to ask her questions. I do think that her grading is strict and that she doesn't provide a curve or extra credit. However on her tests, she let's you bring a notecard which I think is really useful.
