Dr. Phagan is awesome! She's extremely nice and accomodating, her tests are fair and she's an easy grader. She's also pretty funny at times. She was my favorite prof. this semester. Definetely take her!

Great professor, but is strict about showing up to class. Very clear on everything, makes english fun. Cancels class a lot and lets you out early if there is nothing else to go over. Def. would take another class w/ her. Long, boring research paper though

a credit to the dept. she lets the students teach each other. Beware the group work! dumb kids take her class cause she is easy. they will drive you nuts. because, you know, youre not like that. a good way to avoid the boring regular english curriculum

took a couple of classes with her cuz she's great. lets you rewrite almost any paper for a higher grade. stimulating group discussions, usually with the group sitting in a circle. not your average class...far superior!

Pulls no punches, straight forward and very helpful if you seek the help. Shows the world in a different light so that one can handle different views of the world if one is mature enough. Eventually, when one matures they are able to use her knowledge of the world in order to survive in it. Great teacher. Sometimes people just cant handle the truth

She is a very good teacher. it is very easy to do well in the class, all you have to do is read the short stories and do the weekly diaries. Its good if u participate in class discussions. She is very funny and the class goes by fast and she makes it fun.

*Very straight foward, kind, and funny. She makes class fun, talks about topics even if they're touchy. Nothing is sacred, everything is open. I love the way she teaches and her class is easy. Just read and do the reading diaries and you will do very well.

we tended to get off topic during class, but i must say she definitely made the class interesting. the work was not too bad, she allowed us to rewrite all of our papers for better grades. as a result, my writing improved. i will miss this class. thanks dr. phagan!

very fair teacher... states assignments in beginning of class workload may seem overwhelming however each assignment is explained and questions are welcomed... rewrites are always offered to receive full credit... i definitely learned a lot in the class and would recommend :)

Great Teacher. Opened many students eyes to other points of view, not just what the media and your parents tell you! Pro-people. No person is illegal. Very Fair grader.

A lot of students think she is kinda "weird", but if she weren't then the class would really suck. she is one of those rare teachers who actually enjoys teaching. she opens your eyes to many new perspectives and is histerical!!

Phagan is great! She is enthusiastic and very helpful. She is the type of prof. who is honest and critical, but it's worth it in my opinion. If you get bad grades,chances are you are not a good writer. She helped my writing improved so now I don't get C's in her classes, I get A's!!!

I think that she is great. I try to take her for all of my English classes. She knows her stuff and is very liberal about everything. She asks our opinions about papers and topics that we are discussing. She is my favorite professor at St. Joe's.

Dr. Phagan is a tough professor, but she isn't all that bad. She is a tough grader, but she allows rewrites on papers, and will try to help you improve your work. The thing I liked the least about her was that she is very liberal, and pushes her political agenda. If you publicly disagree with her, you may run into trouble with her.

I took her for Analytical Writing. Every paper she has you write, you get to rewrite as many times as you want to get a higher grade. She's personable, too. She cancels class to let you have time to work on the papers she's assigned. It wasn't a stressful class.

She is a great professor! I found her to be very helpful. We did a few writing assignments but she guided us through them. If there were any issues in regards to grades we were allowed to re-write.

Professor Phagan made me want to become an English teacher. She is truly inspiring. I still remember so much from her class, and it has been a few years. If you get the chance, take any of her English classes - you will not regret it!!!

If you take Phagan your writing will improve for all of your other classes. I have found that after taking her even the papers I rush to write I am getting higher marks on! Whoever said she is crude is wrong, she is a human that relates to her students casually during discussion but gets down to buisness with your writing. TAKE HER

Forget what you hear any loud mouths say about Dr. Phagan she is incredible. Not close minded, very helpful and really knows what she is talking about. Her classes are informal, but she takes the work seriously. If you want to improve your writing and yourself - take her.

Dr. Phagan is one of the best teachers I have had at St. Joe's. She makes class interesting,and you actually have class discussions. She welcomes new ideas, and definitely helps you improve your writing skills. If you want a teacher that really cares about helping you improve your writing skills, and are looking for an interesting class, take her.

extremely engaging class..i reccomend participating it keeps it interesting and shes open to discussing almost anything! there are quite a bit of readings assigned but they are all awesome and more current books/writings.. i definitely suggest Professor Phagan to students that want a class discussion setting

Professor Phagan is seriously a great teacher. For the poetry class I took with her there was 2 short essays, 1 research paper and a midterm and a final which were both open book. She even lets you do redos on all your papers. Just go to class and participate and show her your trying hard, and youll get a good grade.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING PHAGAN...great classes you can make her talk about anything and she will help your grammar and writing skills exponentially. make her talk about disney youll have a fun class, thank me later

She is an AMAZING PROFESSOR as well as and AMAZING MENTOR! If you do not understand something she does not make you feel stupid for not understanding it. As well as the amount you learn in class with the re-writes! She is big on the idea of always learning which is true! If you need to take and English Class I wuold recomment her. SHES AMAZING!

I love professor Phagan. She is so helpful and is very passionate about what she teaches. (True, she does often voice her opinions but she does not force it on anyone--and frankly as a college student you should be able to handle some conflicting opinions with maturity). She is, however, a tough grader, but usually lets you do re-writes.

Dr. Phagan is very opinionated and needs to focus on the class material more than her strong opinions on everything. She has the ability to make her students feel extremely uncomfortable, and she is not afraid to embarrass you in front of the whole class if you do not agree with her. She needs to learn to respect her students more.

Dr. Phagan is a great professor. In African American Literature, she considers lecture as a conversation and she requires feedback. The reading is a must and so is participation. She is very opinionated and definitely makes her views know but she does not force it on her students. She is open to other opinions and you will learn a ton from her.

Professor Phagan is probably one of my favorite professors ever. She can be very opinionated and I can see how that would rub some people the wrong way but overall she's an unbiased grader and will give you good feedback on every essay, as well as allow you to rewrite them. If you love English and American literature you have to take her.

VERY political, but it can be fun to discuss the world today instead of class material. Automatic C if you have 3+ grammar mistakes, but you can re-write everything. PARTICIPATE! Don't be afraid to voice your opinion, your grade is more important than 5 seconds of embarrassment. She's a nice woman overall, but very hard if you're not an Eng major.

Professor Phagan is a harsh grader, but she is an understanding person! She is always available to help with your essays and will give extra time if needed. She is an amazing professor who will go above and beyond if you are willing to put in the work. Quid pro quo.
