boring class
Great teacher...never learned so much.
Disorganized, frequently late. Seems preoccupied by other things. Doesn't maintain control over class and allows students to be rude to other students. No clear purpose in course. I felt as if I hadn't learned anything at the end.
She is very difficult only because her class is so boring and you will never want to go. She is very knoweldgeable about art history. You can pass the class if you attend but don't expect an A.
boring class, seriously awful.. blah

Very boring! She tends to ramble and I get lost on what we are talking about. Tests are very easy, papers are easy and hard to mess up. Okay class
so boring. never wanted to go, but had to because she took roll. how stupid is that in a stadium class? book was hard to read too. fell asleep half the time. barely read, didnt take notes, and listened sometimes. got a B on the paper and C on the test. not impossible, but VERY BORING!!
very boring class! hard to stay awake and writing those papers were killer since the topics were boring! but all in all the class is somewhat easy..just drink lots of redbull and try to pay attention and u should be fine
extremely boring, and i love art! i really did want to learn, but she made it boring and tedious. she knows her stuff, but does not make it interesting. nice lady, but really annoying.
I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. I never felt bored or wanted to skip class. I do think she tends to treat students like 5th graders. Constantly repeats directions and gives very detailed directions like we would never figure it out on our own. Harder than some art history professors, but I still got an A by studying and going to class.
The Class is boring if your not an art freak but its not too difficult.
sooooo boring!!!!!
Advice: go to class, take notes, review notes before test. That's pretty much it and you'll ace it easily.
I hate this woman, she is overly ambiguous and never goes over tests to tell you what you did wrong. She is condescending and thinks that changing the date on paper dates are okay. She's a ****. Don't take.

Awful. The lectures are SOooo boring, but in order to do well in the class you have to force yourself to go at least once a week. She tried to make our large class into a discussion by asking vague questions from the text, and when no one answered them, she just waited and kept asking. It's really easy if you just make yourself show up.
If you dont like art dont bother.Dont trust the TA'S and make sure you cite everything!
Wow. Lots of work, 2 really hard essays that are graded roughly and 2 tests. Tests are not so hard as long as you study the pictures and do the reviews. Class can get boring but you learn a lot. I studied rarely and got a C.
Essays require you going to Museums and are very hard!
This class is extremely easy if you're not a moron. Although Steinhoff is one of the worst teachers ever. Tons of fun if you like being asked insultingly easy questions. I felt like she was teaching at a 2nd grade level or something.
She's kinda ****y, but the material is interesting and you can learn a lot. The essays are alright, just make sure you turn them in on time, take notes in class if you can stay awake because they are important on the test. Oh yea make sure to be on time on test day, she snapped at me and made me feel really stupid... :(
There are two tests they aren’t too hard but you need to study. There are two papers and they are graded a bit hard especially for a freshman class. She doesn’t use a microphone so when she is discussing things with other students you miss out. Overall not a bad class.

This had a lot more work than a sophmore level class. It's 2 multiple choice tests, a 10 pg essay, and a reading journal that she picks up randomly. She relies heavily on student participation in class which can be frustrating. She is a great prof, and is very passionate about what she does. She is more than willing to help students out.
SOOOOO BORING!!! I absolutely LOVE art, but this class made even my huge interest in art go down dramatically. I mean, the class is basically easy if you study and do the papers, but Steinhoff is extra spontainiously boring. My suggestion: dear God, please choose a different teacher for this course
It is true from what other students say about Professor Steinhoff, she is moderately disdainful. I give her credit for a superb syllabus and WebCT documents but hate her 2 paper and 2 tests method (don't screw up!). I also hate when she constantly assault her students about plagiarism (she overdoes it). For visual/performance req. DON'T TAKE HER!
Prior to this class I had a lot of intrest in art, but that sure changed. The papers she gives are alright, but you have to go to the museum two times and her test, well let's just say she tries to trip you up. The teacher herself is as one reviewer said disdainful and shows little respect towards her students and is of little use.
She's neither terribly boring nor terribly great (as a lecturer). She does her best to engage the class as far as calling on people, but she calls on people who raise their hands, not just random people. Both her tests and papers are quite fair. She gives a review sheet.
This is a really great professor! The class has two essays and two exams- and their is no final during finals week! You do have to go to the museums for the essays, but as long as you follow the directions they are graded easy. Also the tests are not bad, all multiple choice with some just identifying art pieces and others just general questions.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken. Steinhoff is a bore and doesn't teach in this class. It is almost entirely led by your peers and their understanding of the weekly readings from which you have to turn in a summary. Steinhoff has ruined my favorite subject,I wanted to go to grad school in this topic...not anymore. I would not recommend her.
She is very passionate about the subject matter. If you take good notes and read the material, the tests are pretty easy. The images on the tests are in the study guides. You must write 2 papers and go to the museums. Class can get boring and her asking students to participate gets irritating, although you get extra points for participating.
She is sooo boring and makes you go on fieldtrips. Your have to memorize differnt painting/buildings/statues for the test(there are quite a lot). Basically she tries to make art as annoying as she can.
okay class. takes attendance, so you have to go. have to go to museum to write the two papers. two tests, lots of reading!
There is a reading assignment everyday, two exams and a 10-12 pg paper. A difficult subject if you don't pay attention. All the information you need to pass is presented in her lectures or the reading, so do your work and you'll be fine. She is a good prof, but ITAL ARTH is lengthy and difficult- do not slack off!!
If one does not plan to read and participate, do not take this class. I loved the class, and Professor Steinhoff is extremely helpful. I made an A, and worked to obtain it. I will take another class with Professor Steinhoff.
If one does not plan to read and participate, do not take this class. I loved the class, and Professor Steinhoff is extremely helpful. I made an A, and worked to obtain it. I will take another class with Professor Steinhoff.
i am an art hist. major & have never made lower than an A in an ARTH course & I made a C+ in her class. She is not understanding or helpful. Reading notes are due every class, (this is not hight school) I will NOT take another course with her! TERRIBLE
I am extremely dissapointed, yes,she tries to engage the class to speak but in a poor fashion.Might as well leave the class alone and teach the subjectin my opinion. Complete waste of time listening to what and how my classmates can describe artwork.I am an art major- Sculpture, this class means alot and is important to me but I cannot stand it.
lectures are okay but kind of boring. you have to wrtie two essays which seems like shes big on plagiarism very particular about that.. currently hating this class.
I feel terrible for leaving a negative comment on 2-21-09 about the class, because now I really enjoy it.Professor Steinhoff is interesting, and the way she engages the class now is much much more interesting and helpful. Her preperation and materials for the class are very helpful for the examination and the papers.Go to class.Study. Success.Period

I dont know, I've had her for other classes but this one was super boring. 3 hour class and she kept you all 3 hrs. Students who enjoyed it seemeed to be the older students and those attaining a higher degree.I wouldn't recomend her for this class.
I did really good on the 2 papers that you have to write, although a lot of people said they didn't. Just make sure you write about all of the topics on the checklist she gives you and you'll do fine. The tests covered a lot of info discussed in class, and although you can share notes online, I didn't get any responses when I asked for them...
Overall an okay class. The second test is more difficult than the first because it covers more material which is also more dense, study accordingly. She also adds three extra credit points to your final average if you participate in class often.
Terrible lecturer. Terrible use of time, and does not stay on track. Gives out too much info that does not pertain to the tests.
almost done with the class, one more test to go. i have a B so far but i'm really stressing the last test. lots of info for one test. essays havent been too bad - A on first B on second. it's not bad if you know a little about art.. which i don't know any. i am basically guessing through this whole semester on what i'm doing. she's not a bad teache
Great professor. Took her for the first part of art history, she made it very interesting. Grade based on two tests and two essays. The essays are a bit of a pain, but easy and not graded too hard. The tests are easy as long as you attend class. If you go to every class and take notes then read over them before the test, you can make at least an A-
I wouldn't recommend her if you're not a an art history major. There's 2 tests, no final, and 2 papers. The papers aren't so bad but the last test is the one that made everyone screw up their grade. Some of the art looked the same to me and that's what made it so difficult. She encourages speaking up in class for extra credit.
If you are an adult, you will do fine in this class. If, however, you are a whiny little brat who never comes to class and always has an excuse and is ALWAYS begging for notes, you're screwed~ (as you should be!) Steinhoff is an excellent teacher who is more than willing to help you out if you ask for it. Read the book, come to class, take notes!
I found her way of teaching very confusing, i would try to follow her lectures with the book and she would be all over the map. Tests a lot on art styles but in lecture she would not explain styles from the art slides clearly.Gave reviews for tests but it seemed over half of the review material wasnt on the test. i would NOT take her again.
This class is really not at all difficult. I didn't buy the book. I went to every class and took good notes and came out with a VERY high A. She teaches concept well and I really liked the fact she connected themes from different culture/region. I definitely recommend her.
While the course is easy and interesting enough, I would have preferred a different professor. Mrs. Steinhoff is incredibly flaky and made huge mistakes such as not giving us the link for turning in papers and omitting critical information from tests.
She has no idea how to use her computer or power points, Very annoying as she is computer illiterate. She talks down on the students who participate as if they are stupid. I just don't like ****y women and she is one of them, The last test will ruin your grade, the 2 essays were graded harshly by the TA's as expected. Conclusion: WRETCHED HAG!!
She irritated me very much.. Never admitted to being wrong. She would change things like quiz answers/syllabus info after the fact and tell you it originally said what she changed it to.. Lectures were repetitive and dull. She was rude to people that offered opinions on art that she didn't agree with. Attendance not taken. Just read the book well..
Pretty clear and concise professor. If you ask questions, she will do her best to answer them. The tests are not hard at all if you study her study guides and read the book. Essays are pretty easy too, and if you think that there may be a mistake, email the grader and they will most likely give you points back. Definitely recommend.
So the class is unbelievably easy if you pay attention in class or read the book(exchangeable). I never read the book and made a perfect score on all the tests. She is unbelievably boring and goes very slow. If you consider yourself intelligent take the class; its an easy A.
Prof Steinhoff makes this class extremely interesting. I love this stuff so I went to class a lot but you don't have to go always to get a good grade. Just make sure you do her online study guides prior to the tests. Paper topics are fairly easy and fun to write. Take for visual arts requirement!
Professor Steinhoff is overall a decent teacher. The class is interesting at times, but sometimes boring and repetitive. The guidelines for the second paper were not too clear, but I ended up making an A on it somehow. Not too bad of a course. I recommend her unless you know of a great teacher for this subject.
She was a good professor, very detailed, not the most interesting subject if you're not into art nor history. But she does a good job of getting through all the material, helps to review the book and stuff she posts online.
She's a good prof, helpful and understanding IF you are working hard in her class. Expects participation and is very responsive on Blackboard. Gives very detailed study guides for each test. NOT tech savvy but tries. Knows her subject well. Writing papers worst part, don't wait till last min to do paper! xtra credit opportunities.
Best professor ever. She drives you to fully understand the material. This is not a class to memorize vocabulary terms and dates but truly master Art History..so you can know what she's talking about. Her lectures are very interesting. The tests are essay. The papers no so easy (just DONT leave until the last minute).Highly recommended!!!
Go to class, read the book, study for the test with her online guides, if you have half a brain you'll make an A. If you're lazy you'll make a B. This is art history. Notice the word art before history, I was bummed this is not a history course at all, it is just a bearable art course.
Great Professor. Really helps you understand the material as a whole instead of memorizing minute details about art. There are 2 tests that are multiple choice, 2 papers, and 4 quizzes, all of which a super easy!
fairly easy A or B class, like mentioned two tests , 4 quizzes, and 2 papers. got an A -, which sucks cuz to get A you need a 96 avg, take notes and do the test review and befamiliar with images she shows in class and the style, era and culture it comes from for test. papers are easy just need to follow rubric!
I came with 0 knowledge of the subject and I think she is pretty easy. There is 2 tests, 2 papers, and 4 quizzes. The tests are MC and are mostly common sense/little history. Papers are a joke. Started both on the day they were due and Aced both. Bs ftw. Quizzes are based on class lectures but I just google my way there. Read the book maybe twice.
This was my blow off class for the semester. I went to 3-4 classes total and will probably make a B minimum. All you need to do well know how to write good papers/know how to bs papers well and quizzes the answers are found by googling or looking through e-book. Never read the book, just listened to e-book and slept. Easy class.
Easy A/B class. If you go to class and pay attention, you'll hardly have to study. Paying attention is half the battle. She can put you to sleep, but if you stay awake, I can almost promise you'll get an A. The 4 quizzes are easy and can be Googled, the 2 papers are straight forward. I worked on both the night of and got an A.
EASY CLASS. ta's grade papers and it's more about good writing style than info. Never went to class and aced all the tests. Definitely take for core.
Though at first I did not like Professor Steinhoff, she is extremely knowledgeable at what she does. She will teach you accordingly and prepare you for the 2 tests. Quizzes and papers are easy. She's actually pretty nice. She gave us Thanksgiving week off and an off day after every test. I fell asleep every other time, but still made a high A.
I thought the class would be a drag but it was a fairly interesting and easy class. Great professor. When you study make sure you look at the Quiz in addition to the study material because a lot of the quiz questions are on the exam
I really enjoyed this class. She was super clear in her expectations on the first day of class, and had a guideline of what the class entailed. It involves four test (one will be dropped), two papers (which build on each other), and multiple quizzes, which are pretty easy. YOU HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS.
i didn't want to take this class because i thought it was going to be boring, but it was anything but that. the class was fun and interesting. dr steinhoff is very knowledgeable and makes everything clear. she gives you every opportunity to make a good grade in her class.
Overall easy class if you study and review the notes. She sometimes can put you to sleep but if you pay attention you will easily get an A or B. There are 4 quizzes and 2 test which are fairly easy to do. There are two papers which are related and fairly easy to do. Overall good professor and good class to get an A or B
Not a very difficult course. 2 exams, 2 papers, 4 quizzes. Exams-read ppts, pay attention in class, and take good notes. Papers are not difficult, and grading is fair. The subject is pretty interesting, but she likes to drag on a lot and loves discussion (won't force you though). Good core class for GPA boost. You still have to do your part though.
This is not an easy class. You have to put a lot of effort in this class. If you are taking any other hard class than don't take this. The material for this class does not completely come from the textbook so if you miss a lecture, that is it. Powerpoints are not helpful.
Not the hardest class, but you will have to really make an effort for a decent grade. Steinhoff is very passionate about Art History and wants her students to engage and to grasp what she is teaching. There is a lot of information to memorize. Powerpoints don't really help, you're better off taking your own notes.
2 papers, 2 exams, 4 online quizzes, and no final. You need to attend class and take notes in order to do well. Powerpoints do not help and her exams are based off what she talks about in class. Book isn't need, even though she emphasizes on how crucial it is to have it in the beginning of the semester. If you make an effort, you will do well.
Easy class, I never read the textbook. Just need to go to class, study terms and quizzes and you'll make an A on the exams. The papers are do-able for people who hate writing essays like myself.
You don't really need the book but if you skip lecture you will need it. The papers are easy and the test are simple as long as you study. I didn't buy the book or read any extra material and got a B+. She's a nice lady but her lectures can get boring.
Either pay attention to lectures, or read the book. You wont need both. No attendance. Four quizzes that were really simple and two tests that were also simple. Two papers that were less than 3 double spaced pages and thats the whole class. Plus she gave two or three extra credit chances. I didn't show up to most of the classes and still got an A+
I am an engineer major and LOVED this course. Professor Steinhoff basically gives the answers to all tests in her lecture. The papers are tricky if you aren't really into art already. I found the second paper to be extremely hard to get a well-developed thesis. Other than that the tests are straight forward and the quizzes easy.
Steinhoff is a really good prof to take. She is very passionate about the subject and makes lectures interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives extra credit for participating in class (aksing and answering questions) there are two papers, but they aren't that bad. Really great professor!
Class can be tough, but do-able. I rarely attended, although should have. 2 tests, 4 quizzes, 2 papers. Papers aren't hard, first one is graded easy, second is a harder grade and its 5 pages. Quiz and review answers on Quizlet. Study power points, and focus on identifying what styles and images are fro m what time period and you will do fine.
Very easy class! She urges you to buy the book but you don't need it at all. Just show up to class and pay attention, and you'll pass. Attendance isn't mandatory so people skip, but then you have to read the textbook and it has extraneous info (she only focuses on certain stuff in class). 2 in class, 3 quizes (answers on quizlet).
Judith is super helpful, very attentive in class as well as via email. Lectures cover everything you need to know. She makes it an easy class. Don't sweat the tests, or the papers. This class is geared for learning not stressing. Super detailed syllabus. Use the study powerpoint for easy notes, use the key terms sheet provided. Enjoy.
Steinhoff is very passionate about Art History lol. This class is an EASY A, no doubt about it. Her lectures are pretty long, usually completely fills up the the entire 1 hr and 20 minutes. She tells you everything you need in class. 2 tests, 2 papers, and 4 quizzes (answers are on quizlet). She gives an extra 5% (of 100%) for participation!
Do yourself a favor and do not take this class. Took it as a creative arts credit and its probably the worst decision I've ever made in my life. You can take a way easier course. She is such a boring lecturer. I can't believe I will be bringing down my GPA for a creative arts credit. The only easy thing about this class were the quizzes.
2 online tests, 4 online quizzes. The only true difficult part of the class is the tests. There's no final but you have to know the pictures and eras for the tests.
If you come to class then you don't have to read the book. Everything from the lectures is on the tests and if it's not on the power points then it won't be on the tests or quizzes. Very easy A without much effort. There's only 2 test, 4 quizzes and 2 essays
Never attended lectures, they're long and dull. Professor is passionate about the subject. Show up if you want to participate for some EC points. Tests were okay, mainly pictures and seeing its purpose/context. Had to go to the museum to write 2 essays over 1 piece (CHOOSE YOUR PIECE WISELY).
At the beginning of the semester I thought she was going to be my most difficult prof but I was very wrong! She cares about students a lot and will help you out. She gives extra credit for participation and if you say something thats not right she wont humiliate you shell try to connect your comment to what she was asking. Good class great prof
Steinhoff is incredibly dedicated to her course and is passionate about everything she teaches. I found her lectures not very exciting and they're available online meaning halfway through the course most people don't show up. There are only a handful of quizes and tests, it is paper heavy. The papers are pretty easy to write and graded by her TAs.
The class was super easy, I only went to a couple of class and passed with a high B. The only thing that brought my grade down from an A to a B was the final paper. You only have two papers the first one is easy and second was easy also but, the TA's grades them and they do a HORRIBLE job. But all quizzes/test are online no in class.
Very chill professor. I enjoyed this class because I like art history so I found it very interesting. Lectures were long but fun because I knew what she was talking about. There are a couple of quizzes which I found to be very easy, but I think others had difficulty. Two papers where you had to go to the museum, but you can just google the artwork
I loved Professor Steinhoff. I personally did not think her lectures were boring. She is very passionate about art history and I learned a lot. If you go to class and take notes, you WILL pass both exams with flying colors. super easy. 2 papers, 4 quizzes, 2 exams.
She asks questions for class discussion and gives extra credit if you participate regularly. 4 quizzes that are pretty easy, 2 tests (first is easier), and 2 essays. First essay is graded easily, 2nd is harder to write and is graded tightly. Takes a while to get essays grade back.
She's a nice person and passionate, but lecture gets boring quite often. Easy quizzes and easy tests. She gives a lot of extra credit. Be careful of the papers though, do NOT procrastinate. If you get a better grade on the second paper (like me, 78 to 92) she gives improvement points in the end to bump your grade up.
The lectures are somewhat interesting but she's not a very nice professor. She can speak very rudely to students. Tests/quizzes are easy.
If you need to take this class make sure you have a good group of people to work with on things. There are two papers and all are graded by TAs who grade exceptionally hard for no reason. Tests and quizzes arent bad. The only thing that you would ever worry about in this class are the papers.
4 quizzes, 2 tests, 2 papers. Quizzes are quite simple, I think you can find a lot of the answers online, tests are okay if you know the content. But papers are graded by TA's and they are very hard on them. I got a B+ of my first and a B on the second, so I definitely say it's the hardest one. The textbook is not mandatory but handy for essays.
Not an easy A class but it's not too difficult to make an A either. Quizzes and tests are easy but the two papers are graded harshly for a 1000 level class. I would advise not to take this class unless you're a good writer since 40% of your grade depends on it. You get 2 tries on quizzes and she gives bonus points on tests to raise your grade.
This class is super easy. Show up and take notes and you'll for sure pass. Lectures can tend to be boring. Most of the quiz answers can be found online so I rarely go to class but class notes are usually word for word answers on the tests. She is very nice and understanding and won't hold you late. Two essay which are both pretty simple.
Two essays, one short, and one research- 10-15 page essay which seems excessive considering I haven't really learned anything so far. Her lectures don't always help with the quizzes, the quizzes are posted two weeks after you go over the material, plus 2-3 other chapters so it is hard to remember info. So far, I do not recommend this teacher.
Okay whole semester only 4 quizzes, 2 tests, and 2 research papers (no longer than 5 pages). Pretty easy course if you pay attention (I didn't and still passed with an A). All the quizzes are on Quizlet just get in the GroupMe on the first day and pick a good piece of art for your first research paper. Shes a sweet lady but the lectures are boring.
Ok so her lectures are hella boring but if you just attend class and take notes its pretty easy. For the essays u just need to pic a very complex piece to analyze so u have a lot to talk about. Id say if you speak up alot it becomes rlly easy.
