Very picky testing. Tests do not match content from class lectures. Reduced sit time class but requires 5 times more outside of class. Avoid if you can.
Great teacher. will let u know exactly what to expect. be actively involved in calss and you will do well

Easy class if you attend most classes and pay attention. She likes to titillate you with her sexy screen cam videos! If you do what she tells you to do you will be fine.
Avoid this class unless you are a whiz at Microsoft Access. That's all you are going to do in the class. Expect to spend alot of time outside of class.
Expect to do alot of work outside of class. You will not learn anything from the book, so save your $120. The class is just learning to program and code Microsoft Access. Nothing to do with Accounting Information System.
One of the worst. Very b*tchy. Pushed heavy on one topic then tested on the one she bearly mentioned and never went over. Just a POOR attitude. I am so glad there is tenure.

Awesome teacher! material's hard but she makes it easy to understand. She makes class interesting too (hey she kept me awake every day).
Dr. Welch makes you work. Or should I say, if you want to do well in her class you will need to work hard. Sorry whiners. Excellent preparation for my job. I'm a CPA working in accounting/finance at a bank and have found Access to be invaluable.

This class is horrible because you have to teach yourself. The projects arent too bad, just busy work. Hate the 65 average you have to get to pass the class on the 2 tests in which SHE DOESNT TELL YOU CRAP ABOUT!! Overall its a stupid class and I'll never use Access Again!
For accounting majors this class is a must, but just be for warned that Dr. Welch will not help, nor will her so called assistants. In fact if you do muster up the courage to ask her a question she will look at you like you have 10 heads and then give you an attitude and not answer.
Rough class. Class time is dedicated completely to learning how to do things in Access and Excel. Pay attention, you need to know everything for three huge projects.
Dr. Welch is a very nice and knowledgeable professor. Material is somewhat confusing but lots of studying should help. I wasn't particularly interested in the material, but it was a great exercise in logic. Then again, so are Academics!
Most annoying voice ever. It seems like she is yelling at you while you are sitting in class.
She is hard, but fair. A lot of work in this class. Access project take forever to complete.
This class is not an easy class, but Dr Welch will explain it to you untill you understands. You can alwasy meet with her also and she is willing to explain untill you get it. Make sure start on your projects early, it helps!
This is one of the few classes you will take at UCF that will actually provide you with useful knowledge that you can take into a real career. It is not easy, but you will be an Access pro by the time you leave the class. Watch out for the 2 day exams though!
This Class is Suicide in the Summer. No way to know grade until after the 55% of grade final exam. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Dr. Welch is very unorganized in the summer session. She is not prepared when it comes to our projects. We had a project due in two weeks and finally after one week she found some mistakes and expected us to figure it out in a week. She also does not take kind to pointing out her mistakes (which there are a lot of).
4 words: AVOID AT ALL COSTS! she gives two day tests and she thinks she is higher than anyone at ucf. annoying voice, and does not till u crap about the tests. why does ucf have teachers like this one?
Very smart professor teaching very difficult material. She presents information kind of hazy.
she sucks
She was slow to answer e-mails and your grade is weighted so that 50% comes from the final. She was not understanding of her student's needs.
Awesome teacher. The course content is easy compared to that of 3141 and TAX, and she gives you more than enough help and aids on projects and exams. Classes are worthwhile.
She is so mean for no good reason. Very annoying voice! While she will help you outside of class, she is snippy and rude. She thinks she runs UCF. She should take her tenure, shove it you know where, and get a better attitude.
Very rude & short tempered she plays favorites with grades so suck up to her Projects are very time consuming & graded very harshly Tests are harder Doesn't answer e mail through webct if doesn't like you. Doesn't like to explain concepts if asked for help. Grades on attendance & participation points (subjective)Don't take Welch You've been warned
The class is not that bad really. She is just too tough and her grading is very very bad. She takes off points for nothing. Plus She considers personal impressions while grading. participate if u want to be among her fav. Perhaps if she were a better person, people will learn more.... Projects are fun to work on provided you start early. Avoid her
AIS is an interesting class. You get to develop your computer knowledge. This class however has a bad correlation between the amount of work you do and the grade you get. You bust your ass, to do the projects. You have to get a C to pass, but they are both worth 10% of your grade, TOTAL. It is crap!
The projects in this class are very difficult! They will take you DAYS to finish, and for only a very small portion of your grade. She does not explain things clearly and can be condescending if you ask her a question.
The class is unbeleivably difficult. I think she and co-worker designed this curriculum and takes pleasure in failing people. The amount of work that is required is rediculous and the timed tests are unreal! I have NEVER failed a class until I took this one! Be prepared to take it at least two times - most people have to!
Very rude to students. No respect. She seems to have no understanding of the real world, expects you to be an EXPERT at information you will never use again. Seems to enjoy her students doing badly and does poorly of helping them when they are.
This class is very time consuming, but not that difficult. There are 2 projects, both are worth 10% of your grade combined, but if you don't do them or fail, your grade in the course is lowered by 1 letter grade. Dr. Welch is very organized and is a good teacher. She does expect that you know basic accounting skills (from principles and 3131).
Welch is rude, snooty, and a waste of space at UCF. She is so convinced that this class is a necessity, yet other respectable acg professors will attest to the uselessness of this class. Points are unfairly spread amongst proj & tests, and she seems to enjoy driving her students into the ground. This was my first prof rating to warn all of Welch!
If you are going to be an IT auditor you will love this class. This is a database class for accounting majors. I was already familiar with databases and she does a much better job at making them easy compared to other database courses. This course is necessary no matter what other professors say, because databases run modern accounting systems.
She grades you like a 5 year old and she'll treat you like one too. Has arguably the worlds most annoying voice...made my skin crawl. Besides the excel/access hands-on stuff, subject material is worthless and boring. Take the other lady if you can.
This class is so time-consuming! Projects take 15-20 hours and are only worth 5% of your grade each. The midterm's a nightmare, but if you stick the class out, the final is easier. Welch knows her stuff and warms up to you if you participate and show that you want to learn, plus I had friends who struggled in Benford's class, so I recommend Welch.
If your wanting a class where you "do" nothing and receive an A, don't take this one. However, for those of us that are adults and understand that "A's" require commitment, planning, and sacrificing, an A is attainable. Welch definitely isn't easy, but she doesn't deserve the bashing she receives. Study hard, plan, and GO TO CLASS!
Talk about a waste of time and a snottnosed professor...I have worked for a major national banking firm for several years and I can tell you this class is an absolute waste of time. The teacher is the most unhelpful teacher at UCF, and refuses to assist students if it is an inconvenience to her. She is an example of why tenior is horrible. AVOID.
Dr. Welch is a great professor! I thought she didn't like me at the beg. of the semester, but I think she just takes a few weeks to warm up. She's always willing to help students outside of the classroom. She ALWAYS asks for ?s and will explain things 3 times if she has to. I would DEFINITELY take another class with her if possible.
I wouldnt take her again. you work weeks on projects that are only worth a small portion of your grade and sit in class questioning what the heck shes talking about. Never responds to emails. Overall a pretty weird teacher that dosent offer any extra help to her students.
The class itself is hard no-matter what teacher you take. READ THE CHAPTERS. projects are long. excel/access exams are easy. The midterm and final exam are a nightmare but if you study hard you can pass. focus on REA diagram bc the multiple-choice/short essay part of the exams are horrible. respond all the question in the exams to get partialcredit
This class is going to be hard and it's going to be a lot of work. If you want an A or high B, you're going to have to put in more time that you probably want to. Dr. Welch helps the students that appear as if they want to learn. Read the chapters, go to class, do the assigned work, remember what you do on projects and STUDY and you'll be OK.
This teacher treats her students as if they are in middle school. Very condescending. She expects you to speak up in class so you better keep up with the material. Two major projects are required which only count for a very small portion of your grade and they take a LONG time to finish. In all I think this class is a waste of time.
I would have to say that if you get a chance take any other teacher.
DR. Welsh needs to retire or update her class. What I learned in this was useless. I took her for 8 week before withdrawing and learned nothing, I will ever use again. I took Kuhn over the summer and learned so many real world applications. I think she has biggest drop and failure rate of any teacher in UCF.
Take another teacher if able; outdated class. The school should review the policies and objectives for this class, b/c I little accounting related material, and a lot about programming.
She knows what she is doing. Sometimes she goes a little fast but she will ALWAYS clarify something if you ask her. Her grading is reasonable. She gives extra credit opportunities on the projects. I would take her again if I could.
Class was a ton of work. Don't let the "reduced seat time" fool you, the "reduced seat time activities" consisted of recorded lectures that were painful to watch plus extra activities and took more time than any class period would have. 2 giant minimum 20 hour projects that count for little of your final grade. I would try to take another person.
I'm a nice guy, but honestly she's the worst professor I've ever had & ever will at UCF.
I am a graduate of UCF. Going back to work on my Masters Program was an exciting moment. Welch has to be the worst teacher I ever had. She does not explain in class the book material. Her projects are beyond of what explains, grading is poor. Exams are off the chart. You cant concentrate on any other class. Have a problem? Dont expect he help.
THe class is hard and she makes it even harder. you have to spend a lot of time doing every project; every RSTA (weekly quiz); and she gave us extra credit which was an extra quiz included 4 chapters and two lectures (35 min ea.) for only 10 points out of 1000.....hard hard class.
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Please save yourself if possible and never be taught anything by this women. She is entirely incapable of teaching students to succeed, and she doesn't want them too, and she takes joy in seeing her students stressed and worried about her exams. UCF should be ashamed to have her on staff.
Do not take this teacher. She is unprepared for class, although she expects the student to be. She is incomprehensible, as she flies through the material to get out early, which is just as well, since there is not much teaching going on anyway. The material is difficult, and with this instructor leading the way get ready for a trip through the fog.
The tests are hard. She loves to add fill in the blank and paragraph questions to the exam. Projects in AIS were really hard and doing the requirements of the project will only get you a C. Above and beyond is required to get better than that. Way to make it confusing! Just add that stuff to the requirements!
no wonder they kicked her out of ais.
ok so i took Veit and Benford for summer AIS and now Welsh, and if you thought Veit and Benford were tough, Welsh tops them both. She make her class so much harder than it needs to be, talks about USELESS stuff in class and makes it mandatory that u sit there and listen to her. Too bad shes the only one teaching this class! boo!
This is the worst teacher I ever had. She made the class a lot harder than it should have been. She made you do RSTAs every week, and they're not worth the time you have to put in to do it. It was worth almost nothing. The two projects were only worth 45 points...out of 1000! And both projects take you about a month to do. Do not take her, I warn u
Come prepared to work...Projects, Chapter check-ups, in-class quizes, handouts due, attendance and participation are graded, and all of this does not include the exams which are multiple choice and essay (and the journal entries have to be typed 'perfect' on the testing software). More a boot camp than an undergraduate course. Would not recomend.
Anoter user said it best: "Come prepared to work...Projects, Chapter check-ups, in-class quizes, handouts due, attendance and participation are graded, and all of this does not include the exams which are multiple choice and essay (and the journal entries have to be typed 'perfect' on the testing software)." I would not recommend this teacher.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Not organized, expects students to know details about everything, yet she is unable to answer questions. Uses intro level book which is very vague and her teaching doesn't make up for it. She is now the only professor that teaches this course so be prepared to spend hours on busy work projects.
Hands down the WORST accounting professor I have ever had. She clearly has no interest in actually teaching the subject. She would rather torture her students with assignments that take days to complete (and are only worth 2% of your overall grade) and HORRIFIC exams that go on for days. Does NOT curve even if the class average is a 68% RUN AWAY!!!
This is the WORST teacher I have EVER had in both colleges I have attended (UCF and FSU). Hours on hours of useless homework that you will not find answers to in the book or in the notes. Not to mention you are quizzed and graded on ALL information BEFORE it is ever taught in class. Therefore, your grades are completely affected by material you hav
I agree with all the others that this is the worst teacher ever. She treats you like kids and wastes time taking attendance. The tests are hard and she loves to include essay questions. I think that the subject is interesting however she makes it harder than it is. She doesn't really teach. She's the only professor teaching the course so beware!
Welch does not teach the class at all. Be prepared to learn the subject entirely on your own and be overwhelmed with useless information. All of the other comments previous sum her up quite well. Worst teacher I've had in my 4 years at UCF.
Apparently the textbook had a lot to contribute to her rating in the previous semester. Not the worse professor now, but certainly on the low side. Will expect u to know the book & details inside out. On top of Online quiz(hw), she requires attendance & participation, which negatively impacts your grade. Exams take very long to complete, >1.5hrs.
This class is passable but only if you take other classes that don't require much work, very time consuming. HW takes hours to complete! Material is not hard to understand but that does not mean the exam will be easy, she can be very tricky, if it looks too easy something is up. Do well on the OLCU's and Participate, many fail by only a few points!
She is outdated. Her husband used to be on the faculty and didn't get tenure - and she did. She's a teacher - not a researcher. She was so outdated she doesn't get to teach systems anymore and now we have to suffer with her for government/nfp.
This woman is awful. And thats an understatement. Be prepared to teach yourself. She has these weekly outdated prerecorded lectures that you learn nothing from. She checks attendance, HW and weekly quizes and class participation. The worst part is her 3 hr long exams. She is the only one teaching this course so good luck.
She is BY FAR the worst instructor at UCF. Her online lectures are tantamount to torture: pregnant pauses, shuffling papaers, phones going off. Her exams are very difficult and tricky. The quizzes don't necessarily help with the exams. Definitely do all of the hw, the OLCUs and show up for class, no matter how grating her voice or teaching method.
Go to every class, participate, and do the homework. She's a horrible teacher and her online lectures where the worst hour of my week. The tests are very difficult and she never gives curves. On the second test the highest grade was a 94% out of 150 students. Good luck!
Her exams are 3 hours long and don't be surprised if you need every minute. They are beyond tricky! She even takes off points if you misspell a word in the journal entries. The online lectures are unbearable! She shows absolutely no enthusiasm in what she's saying so why should I be expected to? She's the only one teaching this, so good luck!
Horrible! HORRIBLE!!
The content of the material is easier than she will allow. Everything has to be difficult with her. Teaching style? Teach yourself, do the homework, then come to class to correct any mistakes that you just taught yourself. This is more like a correspondence class with seat time! I've had 2 other classes with this professor. I'm done.
Horrible class, Horrible professor, still do not understand why UCF waste money on people like this, she just wanna fail you thats her whole purpose failing student does not help, does not explain****.
All the negatives are correct, her prerecorded lectures were torture. I spent more time studying for her class than for AIS4401 or 3141 and yet I still did better in those classes than I did for this one.I knew my stuff, but her exams and quizzes were tricky, the formatting of her exams threw me off, but the material wasn't difficult. Just read.
I would say DONT take her but she is the only one teaching the class and rumor has it she is never leaving. Attendence is mandatory her online lectures are so boring, and her test HAHAHA are brutal. Honestly the only teacher that does essay questions. The only good thing i can say is she sounds like the teacher from jimmy neutron which is soo funny
Tough class but the professor is helpful if you ask for it. First test isn't difficult if you study, but the second test with all the government-wide statements is tough. Substitutes online lecture for 1 of the 2 class days a week, and there's an online quiz every week. Study hard and you could possibly pass.
Sadly, she is the only one teaching this course. This is not rocket science, yet she makes it MUCH harder than necessary. Tricky tests with drop down boxes, matching questions and essays. Oh..and she will take attendance (with your photo affixed to a card) every class and it affects your grade. Good luck
The material isn't difficult but she makes it extremely hard to pass. Tests are nearly impossible and are so long. Definitely take this class in the summer with the other teacher or you will have the worst semester ever. Attendance is mandatory and you lose participation points if you do not attend which affects your final grade.
Not my favorite course but at least it motivated me to go into engineering and leave accounting. Class was much harder then my chem and phy classes due to the teacher. Glad I made the decision to leave accounting when I did. My friends who are accountants are working much more than me for half my salary:)
Course is made very difficult by the lack of instruction and the textbook used. She does not respond well to questions, and has an air of superiority. She is not an asset to COBA.
Welch overcomplicates the material. Read the book and teach yourself. Don't expect your grade be a reflection of how well you know the material.
Don't be an Actg major if you are looking for an easy way out and not willing to put in effort to learn - good luck passing the CPA w/ that attitude! Yes, the class is hard. You must ATTEND class, READ & take notes on chapters, and DO the hwk each week to do good. In class exam is fair, but conceptual MC test in lab is tricky. DO NOT FALL BEHIND!
