She is the only proffesor in campus that would let you re do your essays and work. i have not meet any proffersor that does that. Yes, she does grade hard, but she gives you chances to pass them. Is not bad, just do all the homework and re do the essays if you need to do so, yes its a lot of homwork but you would learn!
avoid like the plague unless you want to ruin you gpa. There is no honor is taking a class with a harder professor.
She's terrible. Her jokes are awful. Her assignments are rediculously hard and unclear. She's also now easy on the eyes.
i liked her alot. she will let you retake an essay to improve your score. there is only one test at the end of the class. corny jokes here & there, but it's okay. downfall was you only get one absence...
if you stick until the end then the class becomes more easy. the class started with about 28 students and at the end only 7 stayed and passed it. It seems as if she is hard at the beginning because it is a whole different class but at the end she is not that difficult.. The biggest thing is completing HW on time but if you do the HW how she wants it then you will pass. Her syllabus the exact date and exact assignment to do.
She's boring at the beginning for like 4 weeks all u'll do is notes notes and notes. Later you work on essays. You end up doing 4 in total all in class. Usually 2 classes per essay. Grades pretty easy. Turn in all work even if late and you'll pass for sure. Make sure to stick around it's worth it!
This is absolutely the worest English teacher at Imperial Valley College. I went everyday, never missed a class and still got a C-. I'm a 3.5 avg. student, and I've had hard classes before, but this is the first time I fail a class due to a bad teacher. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. IVC needs to get rid of incompetent teachers!
She is an awful teacher, the worst teacher I have ever had. I am a good student with a B Avg. GPA, she made every students life a living hell. Don't take a class with her, there are better english teachers at IVC then her. I would highly recommend, Mr. Huemman, Mr. Davis, Mr. Rapp, but avoid Mrs. Cormier!
She is not at all helpful. Runs off topic making jokes that only she laghs at.
Best teacher I have found at this college.
Hard in the beginning but gets easier half way through the semester. Doesn't give a lot of homework. Grades are mostly based on how well you do on the six essays. Pretty easy compared to most ENG 101 professors.
Mrs.Cormier is an OK person, but honestly, I was really disappointed with her. I took her for 100 and I got a D, after having done all assignments and went to every class. I did bad on 2 essays and no, she did NOT give us a chance to redo them. At least not with me! I took her again in 101 and she dropped me!
Horrible teacher. She never seems to shut up about bunnies and she is a MAJOR let down.
HORRIBLE TEACHER DO NOT TAKE HER!!! I have always been great in every english class i have taking in the past, i have ALWAYS done great in my essays, B's and A's. but cormier takes off points for NO reason, and does not have a proper grading method. DONT TAKE HER!!!
don't bother taking if you have a full schedule.
simply not a good teacher. might have been better in past years but now she is simply not good.
Mrs. Cormier started out as an innocent looking teacher. She seemed nice. However, with the passing of the semester, you will see how harsh and critical she really is. She takes her job too seriously, believing she is a university-level professor. I do particularly well in English, but her class proved difficult. Would not recommend.
She is terrible. I'm a freshman starting college and having her as an English professor ruins everything. She tells terrible jokes about her bunny and is harsh with her work. She takes her career way to seriously. She expects perfect papers and will deduct points if you are missing something simple like a comma. Very critical and easy to get on her bad side. Yes she will forever hate you and look down upon you. Wish I would've known of this site ahead of time.
I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS TEACHER. THE CLASS IS NOT EASY IF YOU HAVE SOME STRUGGLE WITH GRAMMAR OR ENGLISH. SHE TAKE EVERYTHING TOO SERIOUSLY
Not good, avoid at all costs.
Ms Cormier is a great teacher. She provided the necessary tools to earn a good grade. Notice I put EARn, not GET. You have to work hard to get a good grade in this class. It's not an "easy A." But with English, I think it's necessary. She is strict with her papers, but it's not ENG 09 anymore kids, this is College Level English now.
Cormier is a hard tracher and i don't recommend her to anybody taking english 110, but despite this i enjoyed her class. if you're looking for a teacher that will push you to do much more than other English 110 then go with her, i did learn a lot from her.
This teacher is very strict. If she doesn't have it her way she will mark you off in everything. She is very picky and she is not clear when she grades some of your papers. Let's say you get a low score she doesn't write down why she gives you that and there is no way she will let you re-do it for a better grade.
This is one of the best teachers in the whole college. She has very useful lectures and she leaves everything on the website for everyone to review. Dont miss class because youll miss a lot. Tough grader and no rewrites but you have a whole lecture day for editibg itself. Pay attention and dont miss any of the assignments. Amazing teacher!
Cormier is eccentric, and I would not be able to take her class more than once every other day. I don't see why everyone hates her, but I also see why they wouldn't like her. however, not doing the work and expecting a passing grade is no excuse for giving her a low score. I guarantee the people not going to class ad not doing the work scoredherlow
Class is not dismissed until said. Must pay attention to lengthy not so interesting lectures. Jokes are not funny, and often said. NOTES, NOTES, NOTES. If sees potential in student, will offer to redo assignment in her office during HER time. Likes to pick at students. Not there to be a friend. Not recommended for freshman year!
The worst thing is her boring repetitive lectures and horrible jokes, other than that if you try you'll be fine. If you actually take the to sit down and edit your papers you'll be fine. I'm not even going to I was a bit lazy and did little editing and got c's on my paper. I think most of the negative reviews here expected it to be like highschool
Wish i had known about this website before. I will never take her class again. EVER. She seems nice but those essays are too much. Plus she is a tough grader i had to drop her her class. Do not take her class i repeat, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
She explains everything clearly, she is going to help you if you ask her for help, and you can get extra credit! The essays are not hard, like she says, "they are time-consuming."You must take your time to do your essays; don't do them the last day or two, she gives you enough time. She even gives you all the info you need in paper and blackboard!
I was warned before not to take her class, but I gave her the benefit of doubt to take her class anyway. Regretfully, she failed me knowing that I did all of the necessary requirements she wants for her class. This professor has no heart, she does not care if you have children to take care of. Why do IVC have this kind of professor?
Her class is time consuming. If you're a good writer you will enjoy her class. Shes a great professor, and really does her job in explaining the instructions on an essay. I loved her class.
Great person but really hard class..
If you want to have to do 101 essays take her. if you love to spend every week on essays and research take her. If you hate life take her.
If you get this teacher, you definitely can't slack off. You actually have to try in order to get a good grade. The cool thing is that she shows you how to do the essays and gave instructions on what to put in each paragraph of almost every essay. Honestly, if you pay attention in class and show up as much as possible, you should be able to pass.
Don't take this class. Currently taking it but can't afford to drop this class. Her lectures are long jokes are the worst at times she comes off as rude. She somewhat gives good information but too much of it. You have to work your ass off don't recommend this class if you stress a lot
The only way your going to pass the class is if you are really good at writing MLA format essays. Like perfect. I already know i failed the class because every homework i turned in was a F. I beg you don't waist your time unless your career is journalism take the class. I'm so frustrated on wasting my time on all the homework and for what.
Professor Cormier is a great teacher. I honestly am not good at eriting papers but managed to get perfect scores on all my papers! I just followed directions and the payed attention to her lectures. The only reason i got a B was because i missed the final.
I got traumatized with this professor. She's a tough grader. I went to tutors and had my essays proof read by 3 people whom major was English, and still she was giving me D's on my essays. I had to drop her class. The only good thing is that she doesn't gives any test. Take it from an A student with a 3.8 GPA. I Will never recommend her to anyone.
Her lectures are boring and unclear, but she can be interesting sometimes. Very tough grader.
Take it from a student with a 3.9 GPA. The class is not that hard, its only hard if your not willing to learn from your mistakes. She tells you exactly what you did wrong on each essay. That's why I got a C on the first essay, read the notes she left, and got nothing but As after that. Because I refused to make the same mistakes on later papers.
She is not the best teacher. She is very knowledgable and definitely has a passion for literature, however, she does not communicate well with her students. She graded my first essay very harshly which made me try harder the next time. Her test are based on the lecture so if you miss class you miss the answers. Always read before class!
Assignments and papers are a lot longer than you would get with other professors. Grades very harshly. If you fail one assignment or paper you basically fail the class.
Mrs. Cormier is a good professor. Yes, at first I was a bit terrified based on these reviews but she was not that bad. She is very passionate about literature and she's actually kind of funny. Typically students that slack off or like easy professors wont like her, but if i was still at IVC i'd take her again. So, if you want to learn, take her!
She does not help you at all you go up to her for help and she technically tells you that your gonna fail. Also this is something most of my class saw this semester is that the only people that were passing her class were White. I recommend that you don't take english with her.
Summary: Boring class, awful jokes, Professor who likes to talk too much. Only interesting lecture was the background for Macbeth. Grading is a bit tough I guess, most people I know get low scores on their essays even though they ask for her help. To be fair she is very well educated but she needs to find a way to teach better. I am passing for now
Half the class drop since she was hard on the essays, she gives a long explanation of what she expects in every essay but hardly shows any examples, so be ready to work the whole semester, she really doesnt try to help out and if you are in danger to fail she will straight up tell you to drop before failing.
In English 110, we did about 4 essays and 1 research paper. There was no quizzes or test (only a final exam). If you do all the work how she wants it (she usually provides an outline and tips) and put effort, you will be good. Her class is college level: if you are lazy or you often ditch, you will struggle and most likely fail.
Do not get her very hard to please. I went to the writing lab for all the essays she assigned and still received low scores. She is very hard and rude Avoid!!
She is a very tough grader.
Very hard to please, especially because there aren't may quizzes or assignments. Don't you dare miss class, especially if it's once a week. Make some friends, and pay attention to everything she says. Tough class, but I worked hard and got a B. Good luck to those who take her in the future.
took her 1st sem of college. almost died. doesn't do tests or in classroom assignments, class is her lectures BORING but very IMPORTANT . TAKE NOTES. A LOT helped me immensely & passed with a B. if you skip: max 3 times & check syllabus for what you missed. all you're doing are papers, put effort in them. if you aren't that good writing, DONT TAKE
This professor will teach you the material without shortcuts, however; she can be a tought grader and be confusing at times when she changes due dates. she also didnt posted progression of our grades on canvas for the entire semester which made it a whole lot worse, she only let us keep the graded essays to get an idea of where we were at.
Professor Cormier is an excellent teacher who is clearly passionate about literature. It is by no means an easy class. You have to put in the work and the time in order to earn your grade. The class consisted of two papers, the midterm, and the final. There were also few pop quizzes. Attendance every class is required per her rules and to pass!
Professor Cormier often goes off on irrelevant rants in order to hold her students captive for as long as possible. She is extremely picky when grading your essays and she reads all of her lectures straight off canvas. She does not connect well with her students and does not care that you have a life outside of her class. To her: class > work.
Professor Cormier was a great instructor, She gave us a lot of tips that i know i will use to the day i die. She does try to joke around but a lot of her jokes arn't all to funny but once in a while she will have that one joke that you just lose it on. She does answer questions and she knows her stuff if you listen and take good notes its an A+
Started with a class of 30. Ended with a class of 7. DO NOT TAKE HER.
All these negative ratings had me a bit hesitant on taking her class. However, these rating are far from the truth. She is amazing, Professor Cormier assigns several essays but will walk you through the whole thing. She is EXTREMELY helpful. I really recommend her, just make sure to show up to class. No test either only essays! No final nor midterm
Boring And Hard Grader With Few Assignments In Grade Book
She was pretty tough and VERY picky on what she wanted on the essays she assigned, but didnt give good feedback on what we were missing. She has me redo a WHOLE essay just because I, according to her, did not do ONE part correct. Wasnt a lot of assignments, maybe 4 essays but we did have a lot of in class discussions and had to read the book a lot
Professor Cormier is very passionate about teaching literature. I had this class once a week and she kept us the whole time. Class is mandatory! We had two essays throughout the semester and a couple tests. Highly recommend DO NOT wait till the last minute to do the research essay! I got a B in this class, but I believe it's harder than ENG 201.
So refreshing to have a real teacher who knows and cares about what she does and does it well. I thought she was funny and more importantly very helpful and genuine. The only English class youll ever not want to miss, not just because youll be behind. She also made Shakespeare interesting and digestible.
VERY boring and long lectures, shes always talking and trying to make jokes. Overall a very nice person but not that great at explaining and there is no actual class work only essays that she doesnt clearly explain. Very tough grader and is extremely picky with all essays.
Professor Cormier loves listening to herself talk. She teaches by directly reading off a pre-made PowerPoint and believes she is the only class you have during the semester. She's excellent at making you feel inferior and dumb. However, she is the ONLY teacher for English 102, so good luck.
Her lectures are pretty long and read from slides (you can view them all on Canvas). Her grading is confusing. There were only 3 papers throughout the semester and almost no homework. Doesnt give feedback and when you go to ask, shes vague.
Her instructions are convoluted and unclear. During COVID19, she posted a letter to the class that this was so unfair to her to have to teach online, and insinuated that our grades will likely suffer because of it. She then just uploaded recordings of herself reading. She's rude and doesn't try at all. Even before that she was inaccessible.
She really made this class HELL before and during the COVID situation. On test she would not give feeback AT ALL she would make fun of your answer if the answer was incorrect and did not help at all! It's true, she will belittle you. It's a shame she is the only instructor teaching this course.
Judy doesnt seem to care about her students at all, when asking for help she just seems to make fun of you and tells you too bad and try harder next time. She is the only teacher l teaching this course which is unbelievable, even the staff and counselors are trying to remove her due to many complaints of students. Im sorry but shes a b word
A pompous professor who won't let a pandemic stop from their usual ways. Believed that is was awful that changes had to be made at the student's expense. She actually wanted us to come in to class during the crisis trying to convince us using outdated reasons. Is too vague with what is sought after in the papers. She is the only professor for this.
As someone who is not an English major .. and someone who is not that great at English.. I learned a lot from the class, she really makes you work for it. I really suggest to pay attention to what she is lecturing! Note down everything she says!
Based on reviews, I thought Cormier was going to be a bad professor. She is a tough grader & expects papers to be well explained. However, she's helpful & explains most of the info in the audios; there's a bunch of audios you have to listen to. Don't procrastinate in her class & wait until the last minute! 2 micro papers, 1 research paper,& 1 final
After reading other ratings, I was worried when I got stuck with Cormier, but my experience was pretty positive. Her audio clips and organization in Canvas make it easy to get work done. She gives you all of the tools and info you need to succeed - but you do have to work hard for it.
Judy is an amazing professor! She grades very fair and is so dedicated to her students. The work is not easy, but it is rewarding actually doing the work. Take her class if you actually want to learn. Not an easy A. I like how final was at night time and she is truly the best! I love Judy.
She doesn't help you with papers. The assignments are mysteries and she only has a few assignments so. If you fail a paper you're better off dropping the class. You can structurally write a perfect paper but if it's not 100% what she expects you will fail. Avoid the stress and avoid this class at all costs.
There are many papers which are fine but when there are certain things that you need to change on the papers but then she will not be specific and she will just say that you need to do better "editing" yet she brings up more issues when you have already resubmitted a paper she sent back for corrections. My majors English and she teaches it badly.
Honestly, I wish that I would not have taken her she is a tough grader, and her criteria for grading is just ridiculous. Assignments are limited so beware, barely provides any feedback on her grading. After going to the writing center to revise my paper for the 4th time, I still got a low score. JUST TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR AND SAVE YOURSELF TIME.
I was skeptical of Cormier from all the reviews left. She was not as bad as people made her seem. She had one essay she gave you the entire semester to complete and her grading criteria was not clear but after going to her office hours she walked me through my entire essay and greatly helped. Your grade determines the effort you put into the class.
Professor Cormier is not that bad, she just really looks for specifics. If you don't do exactly what she wants on a paper you won't get a good grade on it. She is a tough grader but if you follow her instructions you'll be fine. Provides good feedback and help if you ask for it.
Seemed not to give too much time in preparing for this class. She reads word-by-word off a premade power point, constantly goes off topic during her lectures, and can talk for hours and hours. If you can take another professor I would suggest you do so. She believes she is always correct and has no problem belittling you in front of others.
This class is not for someone looking for an easy A. This class requires lots of work, time, and care if you want to pass with an A. She's a great teacher, I enjoyed her lectures. She gave us the exact outlines for our papers, you have to just fill them in. I don't recommend taking it if writing is your weak spot.
Honestly, I really enjoyed her class. In the beginning I was worried since there's a lot of reviews that she's tough but in reality she's really not. She's clear on what she wants. At first it may seem it's a workload but trust me, it's easier than what you think. She gives a reasonable amount of time to complete your assignments. Just do the work!
she is plain horribkle
She expects everybody to get all the essays assignments done like in one day and plus she makes it so complicated and confusing. Everything in her class is time consuming, she doesn't even give you time to submit assignments hours before the due date which it's always due at 11:59p.m. the essays are extremely hard to do too much specific details.
This professor is not a great teacher. She is not able to explain what you did wrong and she will not correct you, she will just tell you to redo the assignment and will give no good feedback. She needs to work more on her communications and how to be specific with her essays which are not hard but it is difficult to get a passing grade.
I took this class during the summer. There was a lot of lectures. Cormier is very picky. I did make one small mistake and I lost twenty points, so try to follow all the rules. Cormier even removed some assignments to make the class less stressful. This class wasn't too difficult, just follow the guidelines and read the announcements.
Avoid this Professor! First, she is horrible at explaining assignments. Second, she is very strict at grading anything, she doesn't remove points she just gives you a zero if you do something wrong. She isn't understanding at all and won't provide second chances regardless if you email her about it. She was mentally draining for me. I had to drop.
She genuinely asks for too many specific details in essays, and wants everything structured PERFECTLY that it's overwhelming. The essay prompts are uninteresting, which makes it even more difficult. I do believe the class is passable if you put in the work, but you REALLY have to pay attention to what she wants. Def do not recommend her, though!
She is extremely demanding, if you work this class is not for you
She is a very strict grader, and her expectations often feel harsher than necessary. Her rubric deducts points for even minor errors, and her approach to grading discussions is especially tough. A small mistake can lead to a failing score, which doesn't reflect the effort students put in.
if you're reading this please be a more considerate person.
Please listen to me! DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. Extremely tough grader. Not a lot of work, but the expectations for quality is extremely high.
This teacher is extremely particular about how homework/essays/research papers need to be done, and if extremely hard to please. Wouldn't recommend.
