She was the best prof. that I have had so far. The BEST!!!!

Energetic and Fun - Great class

She's really good. . .try to get her if you can!
Best Prof Ever! She makes everything easy to understand, gives encouragement where needed and takes no bull ****!

good prof. the sample exams online make the course twice as easy.
Fantastic lecturer!!! Get her if you can.
Excellent professor. Best accounting prof at MUN.
Tests are a bit tricky, but stay focused and you'll be fine. She knows exactly what she's doing, and classes are good and to the point. She's pretty funny too, especially when she marks herself with her marker by accident.
Great prof! Get her if you can. But expect her to get progressively sarcastic throughout the semester.

An excellent prof!! Gives plenty of examples and helpful info!! I recomend to anyone!!
not a bad prof by anymeans but there are better. Gives examples but moves quickly through them. Easy to lose pace with her if you fall behind on a topic.
great
not bad
She knows what she is talking about..Hard course though, willing to help you if you need it. She is overall a good prof and the best you will be able to find for this course
Knows her stuff and is willing to help you whether its the last accounting course you ever have to take, or you've got your eyes on a CA. Great for everyone; a definite asset for the department.
Judy is by far one of the best professors I've had at MUN. She is very knowledgable, and can actually explain concepts to students very well. Her classes are good and to the point, and they easily prepare you for the tests and the final. I wish she taught more accounting courses!
Judy was an excellent prof! She knows everything in accounting..She moves a bit fast through some topics so you have to keep up. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the exam and if you go to class you'll do fine on the tests. The final was a bit tricky, but overall she was an excellent prof
she was okay, but dont listen to the people who say she is the best, or that she grades easily. there are many better profs who teach accounting.
Great prof. Don't listen to the people who say there are many better accounting profs. There aren't. Clear, concise, sacrcastic. Moves through problems quickly so be sure to bring sol'ns to class. Check for both sol'n CDs (some books don't have them). Practice exams are gold. Double-check tests.
complete "fill in the blank". dont go to her tutorials if you are not in her class. or she will jump down your throat. arrogant
Great prof! Gives good examples in class that prepare you for the tests and final exam.
Good prof, but kills you on the final.
Most arrogant, rude person I have ever met. This lady is very very rude
stay away
Good Accounting prof. Knows her stuff, don't ask for help. Uses the old tests faithfully.
She is so mean, it's unreal. Her jokes are not funny, all you'll hear all term is "you'll gte a doughnut" or "you can try this question...or register for this course next term". Really now, how is that helpful? She knows her stuff, but she's just so unapproachable that it's a waste. For someone intelligent, she is a waste of a prof.
She is not friendly and very hard to get help from.
I would recommend getting her because her old online sample tests let you know exactly what to expect, so it's not hard to get a high mark. As a person, she seems needlessly arrogant. Her class was the first time i've ever seen a prof stop everything and tell somebody in particular to write down the notes. She knows her stuff though.
She's a very rude person, and I'm actually kind of afraid of her. BUT, all her old tests are online and she uses the same (or similar) format every term. READ THE BOOK. Going to class is helpful, but don't depend on it. The class is a good overview, but the book is where you learn. Good book too, interesting for accounting. I'd recommend her.
Knows her stuff, but is the rudest person I have ever spoken to. Don't bother asking for help because she will try to make you feel like an idiot.
very unhelpful
Judy is extremely knowledgeable and knows how to teach accounting for sure! She can project herself as a little standoffish but she can be approachable, just do your work
Judy definatly knows her stuff. Seems a bit rude in class but she expects a certain level of knowledge especially at this level
Okay teacher, but very rude and mean. writes stuff about you during class, like if you take notes or not, or if you miss class or leave early. Not the nicest, but if you go to class you can get an alright mark
Teacher is hard to follow. She can also be quite rude. Attendance required for random study notes given in class. Otherwise, the classes are not much help. The only benefit is that the past exams posted online are virtually identical to the current exams, if not for this I'm sure students would not do as well.
What can I say about Judy....Shes the Best!
Judy is a really good professor, she explains everything very clearly in class and lays it out so everyone can understand it.The tests have been easy. I think she's funny and I didn't find her rude, just impatient with people who don't do their work. Hello? that's what we're here for isn't it?
Great prof, knows what she is talking about and if you do the work, a good mark will be rewarded
Very intimidating lady but her midterms are carbon copies of the post sample exams. Brutal final though so prepare yourself and do well throughout the whole term. Go to class or she will make you feel like an idiot... which can be pretty hilarious to watch.
Just go to class, keep up on your work and you'll get an easy A. If you skip class you can expect a bad mark and probably being called out infront of the class for answers because she knows you won't have them.
Good teacher, definatly knows her stuff. better than the others, but still was not a good course. accounting isnt my thing so had to work for a decent mark. Keep up with class work, easy course to fall behind in
She is a fantastic prof who really wants to she her students do well,I had her for intermediate accounting and she knows most people in that class want to pursue it and she will do anything she can to help you out, great for advice and very fair tests/.she takes a lot of stuff from class work so go to class and do your work and you will get an A
Excellent prof. Wish I could have her for each class I take. Very fair marker and knows when someone puts the work into studying. Always there to help if you ask. Thanks!
probably one of the better professors for this course. I wasn't the biggest fan of this class, so probably why I didnt like her teaching as much as I could have. But over all if you pay attention in class, and go to her for help you should do fairly well
Loves her field, and is very helpful if she knows you're putting in the effort and attending classes.
Great teacher!
She is an okay professor. She notices if you go to class and remembers you and is willing to help you if you ask. She knows her Accounting, and if you stay on top of your work and go to class, you'll do fine.
i thought she was the janitor. LOVES her janeway childrens foundation shirt, hiking boots and st.fx ring. also LOVES the textbook, a billion questions must be prepared for each class. never directly answers questions that are asked. had no interest in accounting, and hated it even more after this class. ...at least she speaks english!
Extremely organized, expectations clear from the beginning, great course notes. If you show up to class and do the example exercises, you will do well in the course. All of the test and final questions came directly from in class examples and assignments, just using different numbers and company names. She's funny and made accounting enjoyable.
Her tests are pretty straight forward, as long as you pratice the questions that she tells you to do, you will do fine with them. The final exam however, is a bit more challenging then the other tests. I didn't feel that she quite prepared everyone for the exam, but otherwise she wasn't too bad.
Judy is probably one of my favorite profs in the faculty. Her course is extremely organized. She uses the book a LOT, but that's my kind of teaching.. She is very helpful outside class and no question is EVER a stupid question.
Fantastic teacher. I had no interest in accounting before i took this course. She likes when people answers her questions and is a little scary if no one answers. She likes people who ask questions and get into the lecture. Tests are super easy if you do a little practice and she marks pretty easy.
great teacher, she is very helpful if you go to class. her tests are very straight forward and the practice exams are awesome.
Judy is a decent prof. She tends to be somewhat boring but that's partly due to the dry nature of financial accounting. I did very well in this course. She notices if you go to class or not and appreciates it when you do. I'd recommend her.
well, everyone here seems she is nice, maybe you were so lucky then.......You should ask the current accounting student, fall semester 2010, they have a lot to post.....If you want to know accounting and an A, try WONG, the china guy.
I do like her if she could teach a little bit slowly.
great professor. teaches very well. class and textbook is mandatory. her tests are almost identical to the practise tests she gives you
Very good prof, a little boring at times but learned a lot. She was very willing to help if you had any questions and very easy to contact. Gave lots of good practice material to prepare you for tests.
fair marker. go to class. she is good at answering questions.
Knows her stuff. Very straight forward and to the point method of teaching. Make sure you go to class this is where she gives study notes etc. A little intimidating but an overall good prof.
Very straight forward teaching method, but really knows her material. May seem crude or intimidating but really does care about how you do and will help you (as long as you ask!) Her markers grade fairly and her tests are consistent with material covered in class. Overall a good prof!
one of the best in MUN
Judy is a great prof. Intimidating at first, but then you realize she's straightforward about teaching. She knows her material, and if you show up to class you should get a great mark. She's will help and gives lots of "study notes". Excellent class & prof, learned a lot. Highly recommend Judy and I would definitely take a course with her again.
Great prof overall. Tests are almost the exact same as the practice tests and gives great final review. Will help with any questions you might have.
I've spent five years in the business faculty and of all of the profs I've had, Judy in the first one I would ever take again. So long as you respect her, she respects you. She is willing to help anyone who puts in effort and will give you tips that are helpful for the rest of your business (and accounting) career.
Professor Cumby was a pleasure to have. She made the course very understandable. If you go to class, listened and took notes you will have no trouble doing well. Judy made accounting very enjoyable and simple. I would strongly recommend her and I hope to have her in my future accounting courses.
Judy is a great prof. Very clear cut and does lots of examples in class.. but be sure to go to class as she doesn't put notes online.
She is a good, clear and fair teacher.
I love Judy! She is so straight-forward with her teaching. She recognizes hard work and cares for her students if you are putting in effort. She doesn't take any non-sense so if you skip class, text in class, or leave early she takes note of it and sometimes makes a blunt comment to you about it.
Fantastic prof, wish I could have her again.
very helpful and tries to deliver the best of her knowledge
Best prof I've had at MUN so far. She gives practice tests that are basically the same as the real ones, and if you need help is there for you.
Is good at accounting but expects WAY too much from students, like she doesn't realize how busy we are. Expects you to know everything from previous classes FOR every class, and not afraid to be unfairly rude about it. Good at showing what we need to know but there's so much its hard to get straight where you have to make your own notes. Annoying.
Judy is a great prof if you are actually interested in accounting. Personally, I thought it was the most boring course of the year. She is very to the point and by the book. Attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade, often takes attendance.
She is a decent prof but extremely rude and intimidating. I felt like I couldn't ask any questions simply because she would make you feel like an idiot for thinking them. Not very helpful.
Judy is very clear with what is important in this course. Any examples that she does in class are essential to learn and prepare to do problems like it on her midterms (doesn't post notes online). She gives practice midterms which are similar to the midterm that she gives. Go to class, do the practice problems and midterms, and ace this course!
Literally the worst prof I've had at MUN. She was very unorganized and was incredibly hard to follow. Be prepared to teach the course to yourself if you're stuck with her!
Need to read the book to understand the material. class is a must as she gives exam question from what she teaches. Good at explaining but very fast.. sometimes hard to catch up.
Judy is a great prof, she makes it very clear what will be covered on the midterms and final. If you go to class and pay attention you should have no trouble doing great in this course.
Judy does a great job explaining material for the accounting class i took. Only issue was the 7:30am class was rough to attend. Material is quite dry for Intro to Accounting 1101.
Judy is definitely the best prof to teach 1101. Class sometimes go by slow, but accounting is pretty dry. She's a really good professor, she knows her stuff. Posts old tests D2L that are basically identical to her midterms in class, 0 surprises. She's very prompt with returning emails ( like 15 minutes prompt.) Take her if its an option!!
Judy is a great prof for BN1101. She knows her stuff, and is always willing to answer class questions. She also posts old tests on D2L that are very helpful for the midterms and final. She's been teaching this course for years for a reason and if you put in the work you'll do well :) I would really recommend taking this course with her!
Judy definitely ranks high with all of the profs I've taken at MUN. For a course that's known for its high rate of failure, Judy makes 6100 easily accessible and understandable to anyone who shows up to class. She's also very fair when marking tests as long as you show your work. Would definitely take again for 7125!
Judy is one of my favorite profs to date! Super sweet and practical prof. She was so good at explaining things simply. She was very clear and specific in what to expect for tests/exams. And gave plenty of examples and assignment questions similar to what showed up on testing material.
Judy is the best choice for taking Business 6100. She prepares her students well for midterms and the exam. It is essential to attend class because she gives major hints about what will be on the tests. The major concepts she did in class were all on the exam. Attend class and put in the effort and you can get a solid mark in her class.
Judy is a sweet lady and really wants to see students do well. Her classes are somewhat fast but if you follow the book it's not too bad. Her test are straight forward and she makes sure you're more than prepared. There were only two midterms and an online assignment every week (which prepared you A LOT).
Really enjoyed her class. Great prof.
Judy is by far the best choice for Business 1101. Review all the examples she does in class and you will be all set for the midterms and final! She is so kind and very approachable. If you ever need something clarified just drop by her office, she will be glad to help!
She explains everything so clearly, usually ends class 10-15 minutes early, and makes sure you only focus on the important stuff. If you didn't show up to lectures and read the textbook on your own, you're gonna struggle, but she does lots of examples to help. She really wants her students to do well, and it shows. Would love to have her again.
Cumby has been at Memorial for a long time and knows accounting very well. She cares and gives good advice about midterms and the final exam. Overall, Cumby is a great person and I would take her again.
Judy is a great prof for 1101 especially since she creates the exams. She does review in class and makes sure that you are prepared.
Judy is a great prof for intro accounting. She goes through everything clearly and makes sure everyone understands the concepts by doing reviewing questions and practice in class. It's beneficial to go to class as she gives hints about possible questions on the midterm and final. She also makes the final so you'll be more than prepared!
Although Judy is a great prof & certainly knows her stuff, i personally found it hard to learn stuff from the lectures. I taught most of the concepts to myself & never felt confident going into the exams, but she kept the tests very straight-forward so i actually ended up doing very good in this class! She also gives lots of practice & hints.
Although Judy is very knowledgable and an extremely nice lady, I found her lectures were very confusing. She was constantly flipping back and forth between pictures of notes, pictures of the textbook, and pictures of practice question solutions. Instead of actually teaching the material she would just skim over it.
Her lectures were confusing, she would go back and fourth from the text book to the white board. I found it very difficult to stay focused in her class.
Very well structured and easy class. It's not hard at all to achieve an a, you even basically get a free 15% from the WileyPlus assignments as well. Only thing about the tests is to make sure to know the qualitative aspects as well. She also responds to emails very quick, 8 minutes after I sent one at 8:00pm
She gives no practice for the final exam. She is friendly but she is not a professor I would ever take again. Her lectures weren't the best, I ended up teaching myself most of the larger concepts of this course.
bad professor
nice lady, but she didn't give much to practice from. The questions on the midterms were completely differently structured to the practice questions in the book. You also arent allowed to ask ANY questions of ANY sort on midterms
The online assignments are a given 15% . When Judy gives a handout in class study it, because that handout(s) is going to be the long answers on your exam just with different numbers. as for the MC on the exam just read the text book, chapters are short and straight forward. class can be confusing but its its not hard to get a good grade with Judy
Judy's presence for an online course was nonexistent. Long Wiley Plus assignments every week that took ages to complete. Almost no notes, just read the textbook. Exams weren't too bad.
Literally have to teach myself this course. She posts videos and stuff but not for every scenario that we get tested on. When you write the tests there is stuff on it that was not covered in the chapters and she keeps fearing us to the textbook to read stuff and learn it ourselves so she doesn't have to teach.
Judy teaches very straight-forward. Her lectures aren't bogged down with useless information. Rather, she cuts straight to the important stuff. Her assignments are online and are good for providing feedback instantly, mainly because you get multiple tries per question.
I couldnt learn anything taking this course online. I found the notes incredibly unhelpful and the examples unlike a lot on the tests. Ive heard a lot of great things about this prof in class, but I would not recommend taking her online. Youd have to memorize the textbook. The worst Ive done in any course so far at MUN.
Judy is a fine professor. Her notes very brief. The weekly assignments allow multiple attempts to help you figure things out, but also take several hours to do for little credit. She also makes the test multiple choice harder than necessary - our class consistently scored 20 to 30% lower on multiple choice than the practical portions of tests.
I enjoyed Professor Cumby's class; I thought the WileyPlus assignments were useful and added a lot to the course (not to mention you had 15 attempts to answer each question, so they were easy As), and her tests weren't that hard. The multiple choice were a little tricky, but if you read the textbook you're sure to do well in her course.
Gave long assignments I basically taught myself the course, but nothing was overly hard.
I had Judy for BUSI1101 in class and I found her difficult. Her classes were speedy and she went through topics as if we were well versed in accounting when in reality we were just a beginning class. Now for BUSI6100 online, she is even worse. She posts no videos and does no lectures. Notes unhelpful, texts difficult, textbook teaches me, not her.
Judy is an absolute gem. If you have the opportunity to take any of her classes, jump on it. She tests what she teaches, she is clear on what is expected of you and she is very helpful if you have any questions. She is always willing to help in any way she can! If it wasn't for her I never would have continued with my focus in Accounting!
Avoid her online. I went from getting 90s in previous accounting courses to failing a test in this course. She posts no notes or lectures, just outlines of the textbook learning objectives. Even if you read the textbook and take notes, you'll still struggle with the tests. One of the courses I've studied the most for, but the worst I've ever done.
Judy is not at all involved in teaching this class. She doesn't post any lectures or videos, and her "notes" are just outlines. The textbook provides a lot of information, but still isn't much help on tests as she makes up her own questions. The tests are nothing like the assignments, and I feel like I've learned nothing from this course.
Doesn't post notes or lecture videos. The assignments are nothing like the exams and take hours to do, but they are the only thing saving my grade because we get 15 attempts per question. She refuses to answer emails during exams, which is inconsiderate in the case of technical difficulties. She doesn't teach - she's getting paid for doing nothing.
Professor does not provide any videos or detailed explanation for problems. You can read the text, fully understand it, and then the Wiley Assignment will throw a curveball that you dont understand. Multiple choice is increasingly tricky. Difficult for first year students attempting to master the basics before continuing accounting courses.
To this day I am not sure what's her purpose as a lecturer. She puts utube link for short videos, ya that's the only thing she does. And the videos are from 2020, so she gets away doing nothing for the students. I do not understand how there is no regulating body at MUN for teaching standards.GetReadyToLearnByYourself.
Course is much more intense than the prereqs. You need to study independently to do well in this course, regardless of the prof. Go to class, she will tell you exactly what to focus on for exams. On exams she is very forgiving about account names, provided you have the right method for the problem. Assignments boost your mark but are time consuming
Judy is great in-person - good lectures, tests exactly what she teaches, and is really helpful. Online she's not quite the same. You can tell she wants to see her students succeed and also to be prepared to start the CPA PEP. This course is test-heavy though - 4 midterms, 2 team cases at the end of the term, and no final. No textbook either.
She gives hardly any notes on what to study. The examples she does give are often hard to understand. Her final exam review its "Your final is on chapters x,y,z..." That's it.
Reading other reviews, Judy sounds like a fine prof in higher-level courses. But in this first-year course, most of the learning came from independently reading the textbook or by doing the assignments on the textbook publisher's website.
It was VERY self-directed. She had a few youtube videos to cover some material, and some pre-made notes. You will need to read the book and supplement the notes. There were a LOT of assignments but they were short and easy - good grade boosters. Make sure you do the practice problems as well. Tests were open book! Over-all a very fair course.
Dr Cumby is great if you thrive in an online environment. Even though this was an in person course, everything was posted in brightspace as if it was online. Her lectures are basically reading through the textbook and her notes are useless as they just state "refer to the text". If you dont mind learning things all on your own she is the right prof
Laziest prof ever, all of her lectures aren't even her own. Basically have to teach myself everything and read every single detail in the textbook. Only good thing is that she responds to her emails fast. But avoid at all costs if you don't want to teach yourself everything.
This class was self-directed, requiring a lot of independent reading and assignments. However, the tests were open-book, and the assignments were good grade boosters. Unstuck AI and the textbook were helpful for studying.
Judy has very clear grading criteria for her tests. It's easy to get 100's on her exams as she sets you up for it. The material is challenging as it's a capstone course but now I feel more confident about the CPA. Lectures are dull though because the material is dry
If you thrive on an online platform you will like her course, if not you will not like it. All 3 test were online.
She has been a great prof! All tests, assignments and final is online. She does use the textbook a lot in class, her lecture notes I find are good but if you dont go to class it could be hard to follow. She is very approachable and is willing to help in any way! This course is a hard course but she makes it hard for you to fail, I recommend her!
Easy-going prof, lectures were boring, but all tests being online is a huge bonus. Would take again.
Judy is a great prof! The tests and finals were online. Her classes her helpful as Accounting I found hard. Any question you had she was willing to answer it! She is very knowledgeable and approachable!! I will take her again in the future!!
Judy is one of my favourite profs at MUN. She is a super nice, and is passionate about accounting at the intro level. Attendance isn't mandatory as all the notes are posted and the class is lecture captured. Mid terms and finals are all online. Course is graded on textbook quizzes for each chapter. Easy class if you put in the work on time.
Judy is the most dry prof I'll ever take, sure it's accounting but I watched impractical jokers because she bored me to death, she told me to stop using my phone bc chatGPT wouldn't work in the real world but would for the exams, clearly stated to me to use chatGPT so if you need an easy grade booster, take this online or in person with Judy
