Show up to class and pay attention. She drops hints occasionally, but she has the expectation that you will know everything (which is nearly impossible). So long as you attend the lecture you'll do fine in the class, we did use the textbook but to a very small degree, also do all the extra practice given on the class site as some questions on the tests are just straight up copied off the practice.

Enjoyable teacher and fairly easy tests (open book) but with HIGH averages (e.g. final exam had 91% average) so the curve is somewhat high.

Took this hybrid class mostly online. Lecture recordings were clear and complete. Testable information was highlighted in red and tests are open-book. Wrote one paper for the course and was able to receive feedback. Would recommend 100%.

The professor has online recordings of the classes, so if you want to do asynchronous learning it is totally possible. If you do show up to the classes, she can have interesting stories that can break the tensions of the class. She's a great professor.

She was a really and funny good professor! The course itself isn't hard because the midterms and assignments are open book and you can use anything. She recommends doing the self-studies and they are very helpful for her assessments however they're not mandatory. There are lecture recordings that have pretty much identical content to the lectures!

Dr. Gnarpe was soo funny and a good educator! Personally, the course itself wasn't the most exciting for me, she made the concepts being taught understandable and clear. I only used the textbook to complete the assignment, her tests are about 98 % all from the lecture so just attend lectures and you will be fine! She is an icon!

Dr. Gnarpe is a caring instructor who makes this course a breeze. Lectures are all recorded beforehand, so you have the option of taking this as a hybrid or fully online course. ALL exams are online and open book, and are easy with minimal prep. Her textbook is required for the assignment, though she did mention an alternate quiz was available.

Professor Judy is fantastic - her lectures are clear, and the open-book exams are a breeze with some prep. Definitely use unstuckstudy for extra practice questions to nail the assessments.

Judy Gnarpe was a great prof! Her lectures were engaging. If you couldn't make the lecture, you have access to watching her pre-recorded lectures. The only thing that sucked was since her exams are non-proctored all the averages for her tests are SUPER high. If you want an A in this class, you basically have to get 100 on all the tests.

Dr. Gnarpe was a great prof. She had good lectures, office hours were made available for students especially around midterm and final season, and grading was clear for assignments. She clearly is passionate about her field, and as someone who was not interested in microbiology, I was engaged throughout the semester.

The exams are difficult because of the time constraints. VERY specific grading criteria as well. With short answer exams you aren't testing students knowledge if you don't give them enough time to show that knowledge. Prof is dismissive and rude when approached. Do not be fooled by the other ratings. Take with caution.

Taken fall 2023:All exams are open book, meaning if you make a chart with the microorganisms, you are set for all exams and the final to CTRL F. Judy is a fan-favourite; she is carelessly funny without trying and an amazing professor. Her lectures are insightful and very interesting, and her exams are more than fair highly recommend.

I think the course would have been better if she was the one who actually taught it. Mostly guest lecturers so can feel disjointed at times. Exams are tough and graded harshly. Overall I think Judy is a good prof, I think it would have been better having less guests.

Her teaching is ok, explains things alright, but is very rude. Extremely passive aggressive and rude in her emails and in her feedback. There is no reason to belittle students who are just learning the content when you have been studying it for years. Not sure if this was just towards me, but overall just a very nasty person.

Judy is amazing! she does lectures in person, but has videos posted if you don't want to attend her class. 2 midterms (25%) and final (40%) with one individual assignment. Her exams are difficult but doable as long as you go to her lectures and study a bit. It's all online and not proctored so I would say it's an easy A for most people!
