This 106 class, a continuation from the 105 was obviously going to be more demanding and honestly, one of the reasons I decided to take Hood was because I heard she was easy. Well, she gives terrible instructions and I don't know what she wants from essays. Not a good professor at all for 106.
Weird lady. Her essay topics are weird and the class itself seems to be pointless if your in it. However, she can be an easy grader at times and if she gets to like you, you can excell. I hated the papers, but somehow i ended up with an A. She was easy on the final portfolio.
This class made no sense, and niether did her essays, the more i thought about them the lower my grade was, the less i thought about it the higher my grade was. She definatly has favorites, and grades a lil easier on them. Also if you go to her office hours she basically tells you what you need to do on your essays.
Prof. Hood is a genuinely sweet woman! The class "Watching You" was a class i wasnt interested in but ended up learning alot... i didnt want to take but ended up staying in it because i heard she was easy! SHE ISNT! i worked hard and ended up with an A but you def. have to put the work into it! She is a very helpful woman and if you ask for help sh
an outstanding prof.she is extremely caring and giving of her time.her class on foucault was great
This lady, while very nice, was a bit of a pushover. She accepts papers late (with a good excuse) and sometimes just cancels papers all together. She's soft-spoken and brings treats to class sometimes. I felt almost like I was in kindergarten when doing so
Judy Hood is an extremely dedicated, caring professor and a wonderful person. Students who are seeking a supportive, nurturing educational environment will excel in her class.
well i got an A on all of her essays and I wrote it the day before it ws due. All you need is to learn what style of writing she is looking for and you're off to an easy semester. The only thing is that you shouldn't over analyze the topics or you won't do as good. Juist answer what she asks and thats that especially when all the essays have to do with comparing stuff to pictures!!!!
By far the weirdest professor I have ever had in my entire life. It almost feels as if you are back in Kindergarten playing with blocks. She favors so suck up! If you get a bad grade, go back to her and resubmit your essay, she will give you a higher grade guaranteed! Pretty easy class, you just have to write the weird things she is looking for.
hood is a nice person, the class had some b.s. work like posting online on blackbboard and group projects. If u just do the essays how she says u'll end up w/ a good grade
Ms. Hood has an innovative teaching method that encourages students to push beyond what they see and write into what is known as visual rhetoric. I greatly enjoyed her class. If you are a deep thinker then her essays will be easy; the same goes for class activities. She enjoys participation so show up to class often.
Nicest lady and VERY easy! go see her before an essay and youll be fine.
She is by far one of the nicest and most helpful teachers I've had in a long time. She is available to help you whenever you need it and is always there to see you before you have to turn in an essay. If you happen to do poorly on an essay she lets you make corrections and turn it in for a better grade. She is awesome!
Professor Hood is a really great teacher who truely cares about her students. She was very understanding (extended deadlines, held individual conferences) and always willing to help. Only a few papers and you'll do well if you see her in the writing center or her office before it's due.
She treats her students like they are in 5th grade. The class is boring and moves at a very slow pace. Although she is easy, if you actually want to improve your writing, I suggest a different English teacher.
She's one of the nicest people you'll meet. She's willing to take the time to meet with you and go over assignments. Her essay instructions are a little confusing and she sometimes grades weird. One minute she'll tell you not to do something and the next she'll tell you to do the thing she told you not to do. However, I recommend this professor.
She's a nice person, but the assignments drove me crazy. It took a really long time to figure out what I was actually supposed to write about, and it was a very high-school course. She makes you do lots of peer editing andrough draft reviews, and I found it really difficult to meet all of her deadlines with my schedule.
nice lady, but her assignments make no sense!!!Dont take the surveillance patriot act class!! too confusing and makes you do weird activities that are a waste of time in class
Hood is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students and their writing. She gives a lot of extraneous work at times, but you will see significant improvements in your writing by the end of the semester. The extra work is worth it because you'll be a better writer throughout college. I loved the surveillance class.
Nicest professor in the world! She is a little confusing with topics but if you ask her questions during conferences she'll clear things up. I took her for both composition courses because she was so nice. You do have to work hard because she's a tough grader but your writing will definitely improve. She's a hot old lady too (no joke) I love her!
Loveliest person I have ever met and one of the best teachers I have ever had. My writing improved and she made me want to do well. You will do well if you put in the effort, and she is understanding, approachable, and helpful. She really loves teaching and cares about the students. 100% TAKE HER
She is nice, but there's something off about her. There are SO many writing assignments that exhaust the readings. She offers extra credit and requires you to post things on blackboard. Her assignments for the papers are also very ambiguous, I'm never 100%clear as to what she wants and there is always something wrong with your paper.
Not a fun class at all. There is always a ton of work and she expects you to write stuff all the time. She always finds something wrong with your paper and you will have to rewrite them.
Very easy class. She is weird and ANNOYING... But she is a very nice person. She gives 4 essays and you get a lot of time to write them, and she gives little free writes in between which she also grades. I never put an effort on the essays and always got an A. Just write what she wants to hear and make it "deep" even though it might not make sense!
She is a great person and professor.
she's really nice, and very helpful! sometimes there is busy work--but overall easy.
She has an annoying voice and she has a lot of hand gestures. But she is a fair grader and assignments are easy. There's a lot of work but it is easy.
she came off real nice telling us some great plans ahead. So I liked her a lot, then she became a b'''h and I hated her ass because of this difficult picture essay we always have to do, then toward the end of the year I liked her because when I thought about it, She made me become such a good writer. She finds almost every mistake.
Professor Hood is so sweet and helpful. Though the assignment topics may be vague at first, if you just ask her for assistance, it will all make sense. Overall, she is a very fair grader-and if you put in effort you will reap the results. Took her for 106, too. Same great experience!
Seems like a lot of work, but if you actually put in some time she notices and you get a good grade. Actually learn a lot about writing in the class as well. Always willing to help and always available for questions
She is very nice but slightly crazy. She gives an assignment every week and is never very clear about them but does it on purpose you think so even if you think you are doing it wrong you probably arnt but it makes the class very confusing. she is an easy grader but is picky about certain things which makes it annoying.
She is a very sweet lady, but really confusing when giving instructions. However if you just ask she will explain.
I wasn't all too interested in the Into the Wild theme, but she made it tolerable. She is a very sweet lady and wants everyone to do well--however, you must try on all the writings and papers. There is a lot of assignments and work, but if you try hard you will do well.
She is a sweet lady and is there if you need her help. Her instructions for the papers are not always clear but she will explain if you ask. Class feels more high schooly than college like and there is a lot of focus on peer review which sometimes feels like a waste of time. Otherwise class discussion were pretty interesting.
Confusing
Confusing!
Assignments can be confusing and if you don't write the essay the way she likes she makes you redo it. Also, assignments every night. Lots of peer review so you have to go to class to get credit. Would not take this class if you want an easy A.
She doesn't really explain essay topics really well. My class spent all of the 50 minutes asking her questions about the essay. She is nice and wants you to exceed. The topic is very similar to a film and literature class in high school. Interesting if you like film. Very confusing but she will try to explain and make it clear if you ask her.
Hard if you don't like English
Professor Hood is extremely sweet and loves her job! She wants all of her students to succeed. All you really have to do is show up to class and do the homework and essays and you should be able to get an easy A.
Great teacher. She really helped to improve my writing and is not too tough of a grader. she wants to see you succeed and will help you to do so! the work load is very reasonable and she breaks it up so you are never too overwhelmed. take her course!
Such a sweet lady and a great teacher. She makes you work for the grade, but makes it very attainable. Lots of essays and writing, but she is always available to meet and to discuss prior papers.
Honestly the worst professor I've had to date. Completely baffled by her high ratings on here. LOTS OF WRITING that becomes repetitive and unless you write exactly the way she wants you to, you won't get higher than a B+. More papers for this than all my other classes combined. Ridiculous
Do not take this class unless you want to be bored out of your mind for at least 45 minutes. Extremely repetitive assignments and the instructions for each assignment are more complicated than deciphering the Da'Vinci code
Judy Hood is nothing short of amazing. She cares about her class like a motherly-figure, is passionate about her students' learning, and is always willing to help. If you go see her for help on your paper(s) during office hours, she'll give you great feedback, notice your effort & grade you accordingly. Also offers extra credit! Sweetest prof ever
Not a particularly hard class, but she might treat you like you're a kindergartener...
I cant even tell you. You will have essays weekly, and if its not exactly how she wants it, she will not give you a grade. Shes in her office once a week, and doesn't give great feedback. I tend to get lost in class, and we do pointless activities. AVOID!
If you want to have to go to 20 conferences with her, take this class. Shes bipolar and the way she grades is something I have never seen before. AVOID.
Shes horrible! Makes no sense.
she made me hate writing
If you have no other option for an ENG106, try to do it at community college and not take Hood. Her directions are confusing, and the way she grades is unreal. I don't recommend her.
Ever heard of a joke? well she is 1, see, my English is so bad because she no teach me nothin. I no recommend!
She is not a good professor. During class we would do pointless activities, some to the point that I did in third grade. She wont help you with your writing, so dont even ask. Good luck if you have her
Imagine your teacher is a crazy cat lady on acid; that's what her class is like. Makes absolutely no sense and you will grow to hate English and all writing
If you're looking for an easy A, or at least a reachable A, and you don't want to invest a lot of time in the class DON'T take this professor. She's sweet, sometimes, but she's a really really tough grader and gives A LOT of assignments-- hard, time consuming, assignments. She takes attendance every single day.
Professor Hood isn't too horrible of a professor. You can tell that she knows a lot, but when it comes to her explaining things, that can be a little off. There are multiple writing assignments. Attendance is a part of the grade as well, so coming to class is crucial. Also, she can be a little sassy with her attitude, but it's funny sometimes.
OK. I just handed in a MASSIVE research paper for my final in this class today so peace out Hood, u were the woat - Literally turned in ten essays this semester. Ridiculous amount of work for a basic level english class. She is a tough grader and makes you work for it. Plus, she is totally out of her freaking mind.
She is the most wonderful teacher I've had so far. She knows how to convey concepts and ideas in ways that everyone can understand, and is one of the kindest, respectable teachers I have.
If you want your GPA to get wrecked, take Hood. If you want 100 pointless essays, take Hood. If you want to have way more work than any other English class, take Hood.
Her grading is something not seen in mankind.... so awful. There are so many other professors easier than Hood. She wants you to not do well, seriously!
A strange one. I've learned to ASK QUESTIONS for EVERY assignment. She won't explain what she expects until much later. She helps a lot if you approach her, but she might have uncontrolled reactions when you first tell her you need more help. It's a takable class, and there is not much homework at all. She gives us a whole month for each essay.
She's kind of annoying because she makes the class more work that necessary by giving busy work, but she's an easy grader. I never got anything less than an A on her essays but make sure to go to the writing conferences and follow the corrections.
Amazing teacher. Very sweet. Lots of writing but if spread out effectively wont be too bad. Flexible with due dates. Not a harsh grader. Wants you to succeed in her class. Overall easy A, highly recommend.
very wacky but sweet. her lectures/assignments dont really make a lot of sense but are engaging. jumps from essay to essay with no breaks, but isnt that hard at all. very passionate about what she teaches. more of an art/photo class than english. minimal reading due. easy grader, you just have to be sure to understand the assignment
Sweet and caring old woman. I will be taking her next semester due to the easy A. The writing is a lot of work, but even if it is not your best work you will most likely get an A if she likes you. The subjects that we wrote about didn't make a lot of sense but overall love this woman. Also, everything is on google drive in a folder.
Professor Hood is very passionate about English, she tries to never tell you that your analysis is wrong. She gives a ton of assignments which feels so unnessary and the class moves quickly. She is horrible at explaining assignments so everything seems confusing. Attendance is mandatory. But she is very lenient though.
Very sweet lady, but the work in the class is a lot and pretty confusing. She never really tells you when assignments are due and is terrible at explaining how to do them. However, it is very easy to get an A in the class and as long as you participate often she'll love you.
This professor is the most boring, vague, monotone teacher I have ever had. She will use every second of class telling you about random readings and power dilemmas. Although as long as you do all the work she gives you,(which is a lot of work) every class is torture. She did not make me a better writer and I would not take this professor.
my grade isn't the best but if you reach out to her she will help you. You can revise ur papers and WOCs. I highly suggest that you read and annotate each article she assigns because it will haunt you if you don't. Sweet lady and only wants the best for you. she wasnt my 1st choice but worked out in the end
Nice person but my God this class is boring, pretentious, and overly stressful for a 100 level course. Long essays, readings that make little sense, a terrible and confusing grading rubric, uses a google drive instead of blackboard making things confusing and hard to find, nitpicks every little detail of a writing until it's exactly to her liking.
Professor Hood was super nice and when it came to meeting with her for help or an extension on any assignment, she usually never had a problem and was very understanding. There was quite a bit of writing assignments for this this class and if you get behind and it can build up very quick.
The workload for this class was heavy, and sometimes unclear what she expected from us before the next class. She is, however, very sweet and willing to work with you so that you can succeed in her class. The work was not hard, just extensive. She has you do a lot of peer-reviewing and work with your peers.
Easy A if you do all of the assignments and get on her good side. Very boring class and nitpicky professor but if you keep your head down you'll be fine. There are probably better eng106 professors out there but this one is certainly doable.
Great professor, you just have to work with her. If you care you will do well. She appreciates hard work and extra effort. Get her feedback, send her papers before you submit. Take her class!
I had her for WRS 105 and she is very sweet. Decent amount of work but she is not a hard grader and really cares about her students.
The best professor to take for writing. Very flexible and always available to help. I highly recommend going to her office hours; it will help immensely.
Lots of papers not super difficult though. If you come to class and do the bare minimum, you will do well.
Professor Hood is a really nice person. She cares about her students, and gets happy when they understand what she is teaching. She gives clear and useful feedback on essays, and the course helped me as a writer and critical thinker greatly. Write about any subject including politics (even if she may disagree) and she will grade fairly. 10 stars
Very sweet lady. Always available if you need extra help and will have many resources that help guide you through your work. If you do the work you will get a good grade in the class. There are a lot of writing assignments, but she makes the process less stressful by making sure you have all the information needed before you start your papers.
She is a very kind teacher and cares about her students understanding the material, but gives an insane amount of work. There is a lot of homework every night and is pretty strict in class about phones and computers. Class can be boring, but it is easy to get a good grade.
She's super welcoming, and her non traditional grading is both a relief and a challenge since you don't always know your grade. Daily homework can feel repetitive and annoying, but it builds toward your essays, preventing procrastination. Her class is easy, and I'd definitely take it again. It's a great, low-stress environment.
Extremely unorganized, I felt like she was teaching herself along with the class. She was very unclear with every single assignment and I never knew what she wanted done or what she wanted exactly. Rubrics were vague and there was never a prompt. Everything in this class felt as if there was no point to it.
Do not take this professor. Uses a confusing and unorganized google drive, very confusing grading critera and frustrating grading system. Comes off as very nice at the start but in reality swarms you with excessive work for an intro writing class. Offers no diversity in her student's writing, makes you fix it until it is to her liking. Awful.
Professor Hood is super sweet. Her non-traditional grading system was confusing at first, but you get used to it. She isn't a hard grader at all. Homework sets you up to write your paper easier. She doesn't really stick to the assignment calendar in the syllabus, but her drive calendar is always updated and easy to understand.
Professor Hood is very sweet, but she makes things confusing. She doesn't provide letter grades on essays, only comments. There's a new essay every week, making it hard to keep up. While she's nice, the class is extremely time-consuming, and her approach made it harder than necessary.
Very unclear criteria of assignments, confusing class environment and heavy workload. I did end up getting an A but it was by far the most boring, tedious and unnecessary class I've taken. The professor herself is nice and caring, but she uses confusing language for absolutely no reason.
Professor Hood is a very kind professor who's clearly very passionate about her class. The entire course is on Google Drive, so make sure you have an organized drive for her class. Sometimes, grading criteria are difficult to understand, but just ask questions. Lots of busy work.
Professor Hood is very caring toward her students and wants everyone to succeed. My class had a lot of random busy work, but nothing was too difficult. Grammarly friendly!
Interesting women. Her class is easy to get an A in as the assignments are not hard, yet she is sometimes unclear on grading criteria and often unorganized. It is sometimes busy work, but really not that bad. 3 essays over semester, fairly easy grader. If you are nice to her she will like you. I would take her again.
