One of the most influential teachers I've had. She will make you work, but she will guide you through everything. I've had her twice and learned *so* much each time.
She is a great teacher. Very informative and willing to help anytime.
she is a very good teacher. her work was sometimes difficult but she was very helpful and i learned alot in her class. i wouldnt mind taking one of her classes again.
intelligent and caring, but she made us write an 80 page art/culture log. 80 pages! what a waste of time. overall a good teacher. her voice tends to annoy the faint of heart.
She was a mythology nut and she was pretty easy.
Teaches well, very informative. Don't think taking her will be a breeze, because it won't. She is the worst grader, tests are hard, and her final paper is terrible. Do yourself a favor, don't take her.
She's awesome, very informative, LOVES Myth so she's great at teaching, interesting, fun, time flies in her class, but she's HARD at grading.
This class is not easy, and there is a lot or reading. But she does have extra credit and works with you as much as she can. Always willing to take time and meet with students. She teaches very well and knows what she is talking about. I reccommened her!!
She is a very informative teacher though the 80 page log applying her lectures to the real world practically gave me a hand cramp the last week of class, writing like heck
She is a hard grader. NOT FAIR

she is very interesting to listen to and class always flew by. however, be prepared her tests are hard and there is tons of reading..at least for mythology.
Wow, this professor knows everything about Greece, she is passionate in what she teaches. She puts all her effort into the myths and stories that she speaks of. Time really flies. Would recommend to anyone who loves myths and humanities.
she really is a good insturctor, because he puts her students first. She gives you ever oppertunity to pass her class. But her test are extremly hard, if you don't study for them. If your looking to take a humanities class, take her, you'll do good in the class because the way she teaches it.
this woman needs to put all the information from the readings into terms that everyone can understand..not just her. she was horrible. and way too into that stuff.
All the tests but 2 were take home..Research Paper is not the way to go at the end of the semester project...Visual one is..Judy knows her stuff..very well I might add. Pay attention, take good notes, and show up for those one minute papers.
I love mythology and she knew what she was talking about
awesome teacher, take home tests, actually knows what she is talking about. Just dont get on her bad side
great teacher. tests are take home fill in the blank. final is a little rough but no big deal. lectures can get boring so ask questions to have her talk less. knows her stuff. very cool unless u get on her bad side so dont u will be better off.
This is the single best teacher at Harper College. She is one of the reasons I am in school. She's so smart, informative, funny and nice. Yes, you must expect to work if you take her class. It's not a cakewalk. But you will learn and she will help you. Judy Kaplow is my favorite teacher of all time and I will take every one of her classes.
Take home tests really helped my overall grade. Final was pretty hard, but if you study, it was possible to get a good grade. Essays at the end of every test...and a research paper due at the end of the semester. Visual arts portfolio was the better one to do!! Very fun teacher...made my interest actually go up!
Best teacher ever. Loved the take home exams. The downfall to this class is that there is TONS of READING. So if you can keep up with the reading.
Interesting class there were no tests but there were projects. Felt like we were rambling on at times but always interesting. Lots of reading
She's a great teacher and very nice. There is an annoying research project at the end of the semester but other than that the class is not hard. Just do the reading and you should be fine.
She is really helpful teacher. IF You really like to learn about different cultures, then sure take her class, You will have blast & it will be fun. But if you think it's an easy going class, then don't take her because she's not an easy teacher. She will make you work, especially if you don't read stuff, then it will be kind of hard for you. Bu
drop out of the class it will effect your gpa don't take here at all she is awfull , she has phd and the faculty head dont take her you will be lucky to get c
one of my favorite teachers, humanities is certainly not "my world," but after taking two classes with her my interest in the subject has grown. shes very helpful, keeps the class involved, makes class, especially with her enthusiasm, fair in grading, very insightful , a little reading involved, but def one of my favorites
OMG! she is like the worst teacher ever! she rambles on about nothing the entire class, most of the time i have no idea what is going on, there are no tests though, and the projects are pretty easy.
I loved her class!! Sometimes her lectures are too long and you feel sleepy but in general her class is so much fun! Take home exams are fill in blank and a short one page essay, not difficult at all. The only hard part about her class is the research paper which is due at the end of the term but she helps you a lot.
She's a nice women and pretty helpful with questions.
I adore her! If something isn't clear, she's willing to speak with you however long it takes until you feel comfortable. I've seen many students have conversations with her whether it's related to the class or not. She REALLY knows what she's talking about and taught me to speak with conviction.
She is a super nice and helpful teacher. She tends to go off topic, but its usually an interesting discussion regardless. Her grading is very fair and the class in pretty fun to be in. I would definitely recommend her.
She's nice and easy to approach, you can tell she truly loves the subject she teaches. She is a bit of a tough grader, includes grammar in your grade so if you're not a very good writer (or reader because some of the material can be difficult to understand) I would not take this class. Overall she's a good teacher, would take another class with her
5 papers, 6 tests-including final. She grades the papers in alphabetical order so if your name is at the end of the alphabet, she leaves no comments because she "ran out of time." Reads the first paragraph in class and then determines your grade, while others classmates have page long comments on what to do for the next paper.
I took two classes with her because the first one was so fun. She knows what she is talking about and loves the subject, I wish she were at my new school so I could be in her class again. Beware the final project.
Ms. Kaplow is really passionate about mythology and she definetely knows the material inside and out. This class can get confusing, and the tests are challenging; however, she will clear up any questions you may have. Beware of the final project, it is not easy. And lectures can sometimes be boring.
GREAT teacher. movies are boring but she isn't. She is very entertaining, loves what she is teaching, and will help you with anything you need. She keeps you up to date on any information you need, and has a great sense of humor. i plan to take her class for the next mythology class offered. you won't regret taking her.
GREAT teacher. You will not be confused about anything, she is extremely helpful. Tests are easy, just some memorization. Some boring movies, but overall great class and great teacher. way better than a regular humanities 101 class.
She's a really nice lady, but i found her class to be very boring. she wouldn't really cover the material, she would go over these one min papers for 30 mins.. i found this class useless.
Prof. Kaplow is very knowledgeable and passionate about Humanities, she taught an interesting class. Her class is great for anyone struggling with learning like me as she gives five homework papers to review the five exams, five 3-4 page essays and a final exam. Show up, do the work well and you will pass.
Judy was very helpful if I had any issues, even with another HUM class I was taking. She really knows what she is talking about, and truly wants her students to become s passionate about the subject as she is. On the first day she told us that if we leave the class satisfied then she didn't do her job. She left me wanting to know so much more!
I know she has a lot of great reviews but the class is sooo boring, you have to really pay attention. I ended up sleeping all the time. And there's too much reading. All it is is just stories that just rambles on and on. I would not recommend this class.
Prof Kaplow was very passionate about the subject matter but a lot of the material blended together (hard to differentiate on tests) and only gave about 10 days to do take home exams AND matching essays. Est. 100 pgs/reading per week. The assignments were interesting and varied, but requires a lot of upkeep. She is very helpful and kind, though :)
she just wants you to listen to her, and listen and listen. Boring class, egotisitcal teacher. Don't walk, run to registration and get a new class.
If you have taken her HUM103 class, can you answer me few questions please: how many papers do you write? how long are papers? how hard papers are graded? how is the class graded (ex: quiz 10%, papers 40%, etc). how hard are quizes and tests? Please, it'll help me alot.
She's nice and helpful, too much reading though and she talks, and talks all the time. She makes you tired.
It is a literature class, nothing like my other humaniteis class. She talks to much says one thing and then doesn't doit.
She is a very nice teacher and she is willing to help out a lot. There is a lot of writing and reading for this class. Her classes are very iteresting, especially hyer myth classes. I did enjoy both of the classes that I took with her. She is a good teacher.
She's a little bit better than average. She does talk a lot but that can be a good thing for those who dread reading the books. She is always straight to the point and if you have a question, she will answer it. She knows what she's talking about. She does offer SOME extra credit. Grading difficulty is okay.
Most inspiring teacher I ever had. The content wasn't easy for me and I took it just to mix it up a little and it was the best decision I made at Harper. That class usually made my day even though I didn't do too well on the tests I got more out of it than a grade. Read the material and show up you'll be fine. She's always willing to help.
One of the best teachers i've ever had.
She is an incredible teacher. If you have a problem just talk to her. Extra Credit is offered. This is appropriately challenging as a class. It's not too difficult. The Aeneid is probably the slowest, most confusing section of the class. There is a final project for this class. All info is given at the beginning of the semester.
Great class. This is the second of her classes I have taken. It was lots of fun. It covers many different myth systems. Great place to start for anyone who is interested in myths other than Greek and Roman. She welcomes participation in class so speak up. If you don't though she is more than happy to talk through the whole class. :D
This was a great class! Ms. Kaplow is an amazing teacher! She makes the class fun and understandable by proving tons of examples and stories! Great class and great teacher. Definitely recommend.
I've had such a hard time in this class! It is next to impossible to take notes as she does not plan her lessons and if she does, she plans them horribly. She constantly drifts off topic making the lesson hard to follow. She is very polite and a good person and has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject but I don't think she should be teaching it.
If you are not 100% in love with mythology DO NOT take this course. She does not explain well and often gets off topic. She lectures the whole class period and in my opinion grades too hard on those who put in effort just because they don't enjoy mythology. This is one of those classes that I can't wait for the semester to be over.
She is by far, one of the best professors you can ever take. She is very reasonable. the materials taught in class will be helpful in real life situations and will really stick with you. The way she teaches is very fun and will truly make you realize how much you take education for granted. You have to put time&effort for HW & readings!
Do not take this class unless you truly love mythology. You will be doing tons of out o f class reading and the lectures are most of the time off topic. proceed with caution
she talks non stop, don't go to her office you will never get out, cannot recommend
I hated this class so much. You have to really love mythology in order to pass. She talks no stop, half the time we don't even get out on time because she's rambling on about something. Would not take her again.
If you're looking for easy humanities credit, then look elsewhere. Professor Kaplow is a tough grader. I wrote more papers in her class than my English 101 class. Prepare to be handed a lot of reading assignments. To be fair, she does state that she will make you work for your grade in the first week. The class was interesting though.
Ms. Kaplow clearly loves what she does. She puts 101% into her lectures and picks very interesting material. I happen to love Greek mythology, so this class was very enjoyable. But I would recommend only taking her classes if you are actually interested in the subject.
I really enjoyed her class, all the material was interesting. I think this was a class I really enjoyed. RDG 099
Ms. Kaplow is definitely passionate about this class about African cultures. Reasonable teacher that will help you if you need it. The class consists of 4 take home tests, an in class final, and 2 papers/project. It can be a lot of reading but if you're interested in this subject you will enjoy the class.
She talks a lot but her class was very fun & interesting. She is also hilarious and very cute when she talks about mythology. There are 2 essays both 200 pts each. The first exam is in class the last 3 are take home exams and she gives you 2 weeks to do them. If you go to class she does not mind helping you out! She does also give out study guides.
Prof Kaplow is outstanding. She expects a lot but she prepares you for a four year university and life. Take her if you are truly interested in learning. If you are looking to simply complete a Gen Ed requirement or slide through a course pick another professor. There are easier professors, but not better.
Judy Kaplow is hands down one of the most passionate and dedicated professors that I have encountered. She makes incredible use of her resources and expects you to do the same. Prepare to read from all of the required texts, and prepare to discuss them in class. Also, sends take home tests and gives a long time to complete. Professor Kaplow da BEST
You do not actually learn anything in class. Instead you are forced to do hours of busy work to pass the class. 75 question study guides with 25 question tests. She speaks over the end of class every time. Overall, this class was nothing more then a typical class you expect out of Harper.
She is a great teacher and knows her stuff. Shes super picky about the books she wants you to get, but she messes up in our class and made it hard to actually track down the specific books she needed. Overall enjoyable class and pretty easy tests
Mrs. Kaplow knows her stuff and really makes class interesting. She gives easy tests and doesn't surprise you with anything. The essays are a bit of a challenge but nothing too difficult. Really cool as a person, I would take any class with her.
Very long lectures, but only assigns 4 papers and has online discussion forums that are very simple. Easy A if you show up and do the work. Definitely recommend her!
Mrs. Kaplow is fantastic, you can tell she's very down to earth and passionate about the subjects she teaches. When it comes to the two essays for the class, beware! Go to the writing center, she used to be an English teacher so she's strict on grammar, she will take away points! Otherwise she gives take home exams, just make sure to read.
There are 4 main projects: Essay, painting, etc. Every week there's a Discussion Board and readings. Nice teacher, a lot of writing.
Great teacher! I learned a lot. She cares about her students.
Professor Kaplow is such a great teacher, you can tell she's passionate about what she teaches. She is always willing to help if you have questions and you can tell she really cares about her students. The class is easy to follow and the material is very interesting. She also gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
Kaplow was a really good prof!! I took this class just to get a humanities out of the way, but I ended up really liking it. You read a lot in this class, but she goes over what you read, so it helps A LOT if you had no clue wtf you read. Her lectures were funny too (like, professor funny). She was cool and actually cares about her students' grades
Professor Kaplow is very passionate about her topic and she cares about her students always reminding us the due dates of assignments and papers. She grades harshly on essay assignments, and I usually go to her office hours for those for her opinions, and it helped a lot. Writing is a vital part in this class and she is a tough grader in that.
Very nice teacher shows that she loves what she teaches. The first essay was a little hard for me because I didn't give myself enough time to do my research. All 4 exams are take home but in order to do the exams, you have to do all the readings from the books. Other than that you do learn a lot of the different cultures in Africa.
The class I took with Kaplow I found rather enjoyable, there is lots of reading and some big essays. Kaplow is very intune and etheuastic about what she teaches, but understand that you will be doing a lot of reading, and she grades papers strictly. She's willing to help you out with your papers though and can explain exactly what she's looking for
Not a good teacher in so many ways. Always off topic, never talked about anything helpful in class. Never graded anything in time. Thinks she's funny but has made sexist comments in our women's studies class. Made me unmotivated and not want to come to class.
the course was really interesting and easy to learn. Everything was take home, the readings were not hard although there were five books to read. There are only two essays(counting for major points). She does a great job of going into depth about the readings and African cultures. There are discussions and participation does count
I had professor Kaplow for Hum 105. Her syllabus wasn't accurate & she didn't explain clearly what she wanted us to do for group projects/other assignments. She also doesn't put into considerate about student's learning disabilities & sometimes she comes off as rude/snotty when you ask her a questions about assignments that are confusing.
Professor Kaplow is sweet and very passionate about what she teaches. She can be a bit eccentric and aloof. We had to read a lot in a short amount of time and she expects class conversation, which is not a bad thing. Also is a slightly tough grader on papers.
I was excited for this class but she is so boring!! She talks a lot about nothing and is the only one talking. She doesn't seem interested to know your opinions and is very egotistical. Took this class during the COVID19 pandemic and got sick, and I still got late penalties. Doesn't understand the situations of low-income students! DON'T RECOMMEND!
If you have other options, go with them. Toughest grader in Harper. Class is easy but she isn't.
Judy is an excellent teacher, she is very passionate about what she teaches and gives wonderful feedback to journals and questions. She cares about her students succeeding and she is very on top of things - posting regular updates and reminders to get assignments done. If you care about the subject and are eager to learn - take her class.
I truly would not take this professor again as I felt I did not gain much. She wasn't very welcoming in her email responses. BE CAREFUL, toughest grader I have had in college so far. Grading projects, she is not really friendly and gives limited feedback (when feedback is given, it is not in a very nice way)!
THE TOUGHEST GRADER YOU WILL EVER FIND. If you have a chance to take another professor, please do! She does not understand that people have work, family emergencies or even a life outside of school. The class itself is not extremely tough, however if you take an 8 week course, just be prepared to sacrifice your life for it.
Look elsewhere. Don't take this prof if you need a requirement. Extremely intense. I have more hw in this class than my Calc 3 class and Chem class (which are 5 hr credit classes). The books are interesting but the amount of homework is insane. She misinterprets everything you say and takes off way too many points on papers( 40% of grade).
First of all, this professor is good at communication in person, but over emails, becomes illiterate. She doesn't read emails and just writes random responses. She grades very late and her grading doesn't make any sense. Her due dates are off and any extensions she gives you, oops, suddenly it's gone... Never take her class.
Great teacher. Super clear-cut grading criteria and very prompt with posting updates on blackboards. You will be reminded if anything is due. Weekly discussion boards address topics relevant to the unit and journal entry. Open book quizzes. 1 research paper on the topic of choice. Good storyteller which makes her lectures entertaining.
She is a good professor. Do your assignments on time and you will be fine. She has extra credit opportunities. All she assigns is weekly discussion boards and a weekly journal. She also has group projects and individual projects too. She does expect kind of a lot in your discussion board posts and projects but it is easy to work with
unimpressive
Most difficult professor I've ever encountered at Harper. Said she was going to be leaving teaching, but she's back. You wiil be miserable in her class, especially if she doesn't like you. Good luck getting competent feedback and good grades if she doesn't like you. Rude and unprofessional, had opened a case w/ making a complaint about her.
Great teacher, she has a clear guideline for what she wants you to do. Dont be late or it will cost you. If you turn everything in on time you will be fine. Shes a bit of a tough grader. I took eng101 and 102 with her. Both classes have about 5 papers but you get plenty of time. I strongly recommend her if you do your work, if not you will struggle
Professor Kaplow is an amazing person, she is an open person. You will enjoy her classes. She asks really interesting and tricky questions. But the most important thing is to always do your homework on time, and then you will get an "A"!
Professor Kaplow was very nice and super responsive. She writes emails weekly, reminding you to complete the homework. Homework is very straightforward, and if you complete it on time, you'll do well. She is a tough grader, though, and waits to grade all assignments till the last second.
