In my opinion, Dr. Olson is one of the very BEST teachers I have ever experienced. She makes class very interesting and she actually gets excited about what she is teaching. Students that don't like her are the ones who don't want to put in effort.

What in the WORLD? She's one of the few professors that I know of that comes to class with a smile on her face. She's very passionate about her work. She's there to expand our minds. If you're not there to endure that, I don't recommend this class

Many students are afraid of her and think she's a bit nuts. She is, but you have to THINK A LOT on YOUR OWN in this class. She's not going to hold your hand. It's what college is all about. If you try to understand her lectures, you'll understand them.

She is a very hard teacher. She doesnt know what she wants. She may ask you for one thing but when you give her that she will not accept it and say she wants something totally different. You may constantly have to redo papers because of this. But I am telling you, you will learn how to write essays.

If you go to her office hours and talk to her about anything, she will really help you out. Just talk to her about her life for about 20 minutes and then ask for help on the papers, she will tell you exactly what to do.

She may sometimes act off the wall but she is really smart and will really help you if you let her. Class is never boring and will really make you think. If you think she's a bad teacher it's probably cuz you're lazy, resistant to learning, prudish, or just dumb.

She has a unique style of teaching. She is dedicated to helping her students improve with writing so if you feel confused or lost the best way to go is to meet with her after class or office hours. This class is not about what she wants. This class is about how you as a student can learn and improve your writing skills and she will help you do so!

This is the REQUIRED English Composition course. When she walks into the class she says: "I am a Marxist! And I am here to CONVINCE you of the wrongness of Capitalism. We are going to study the EVIL of White Western Imperialism." What does this have to do with learning English Composition?

Awesome teacher, passionate about her work and beliefs. Pushes for better papers, which is obviously too much for some people. Lectures are some of the most interesting I've ever had. And she gives back ALL papers, FULL of comments! Not for the lazy or thick.

Dr. Olson tends to go off during class discussions but she's funny. She expects a lot from her students. She may seem lika a hard professor but she is there to help her students and as long as you work with her constantly throughout the quarter, you will pass the class. If you really want to work hard to earn your grade, you should take her class.

Scares the crap out of you at the beginning with the amount of reading she assigns. Eventually, you learn as long as you visit her office hours when papers are near being due, you'll be fine. Overall, while her lectures are disorganized, her office hours will make you a better writer.

Dr. Olson is exactly what a teacher is supposed to be like. She has high expectations for her students, and she is committed to actually making them better writers and better thinkers. Judy is my fave prof! She made me want to be a Engish professor even more! Listen to her, she will teach you how to write. After her writing will be so easy. Go to her office and she'll give you all the help you need. She knows so much.

The professor who set my brain on fire. In a good way! Tangential and demanding, but I found her energy and mode of life refreshing and I appreciate the passion she has when lecturing and explaining. Dr. Olson can be intimidating, but she can teach! I have learned so many things from her-- not just materials in the course, but about life! She is not lenient because she believes that people who learns the material should be able to pass and those who do not should learn it. I suggest not to take her if you do poorly in your English classes.

I had her for Eng. 101 and 102. At first, she seems intimidating and working on the papers are hard at first, but you get used to it, you just gotta think it through. Already commented here; I want to add that this teacher CAN be very biased at times and I really hate it when professors (such as Dr. Olson) go and indoctrinate students. Ignore or deal with these issues, however, and she is the best English teacher ever! Took her for both 101 and 102 two years ago but I have little doubt that she's changed much.

If you want to improve your reading, writing and critical thinking skills, take Dr. Olson's class, take notes, THINK MORE, see past the unorthodoxy, and focus on what is being taught. Don't be too judgmental. Remember this: ALWAYS follow instructions. Everything else will fall into place if you do this simple task.

This teacher is one of the best i've had. she is hard though, but she's brillant. her writing just makes sense, and after a while it becomes easy. i'd take her if you want a challenge, because she's awesome. a little scary, but it's okay. you get used to it.

I didn't want to take this class because I'm a transfer student and was irritated that I still had one more GE class to complete. HOWEVER, I think she's amazing. She is funny, caring and the class is interesting. This is NOT an easy class, but if you give it a chance you'll enjoy it too. She helped remind me why I love writing.

After having Olson for 2 quarters, I can say that she is one of the best teachers on campus. Class is fairly difficult & you will be required to put in a lot of work. An outlier in her teaching styles, but by no means are they sub par to other engl classes. She gives you new perspectives about life and reading and as challenging as the class may seem, it is very doable. Professor Olsons writing style is different from your usual english class but I learned a lot and was able to apply her style to papers from other classes. Her class is really fast-pace, do DNs and youll be fine. Essays are like midterms. She really picky about every paper you give to her. Be ready to waste money on hard copies. Dont ever miss a whole week of class.

If you want to become a better writer I 100% recommend Judy. Honestly seems kind of scary, but the kind of scary that makes you want to check your work 100 times before turning it in. She makes it fun but it's the procrastination that makes it hard. She changes when she has class but it is mandatory to go.

If you do not follow them exactly, this class will be hard for you. The HW also needs to be done exactly like the sample. Professor Olson's class is a wild ride - expect cussing, tangents, and tough grading. But the assignments are doable if you follow along. Using unstuckstudy alongside the readings really helps.

Judy is someone who opens up ideas and concepts to her class in order to gain critical thinking skills in writing and outside of the classroom

She's a great professor. Her lectures seem off-topic at first, but they actually weave into the course subject and give you a lot to think about. She provides great feedback and is very good with grades.

Class in the beginning is a bit confusing but after a while, you get used to it and becomes easy to manage. Shes is very caring and nice but don't take that as an advantage, be nice to her >:O. But overall, you have homework and three papers, might seem like a lot but you just need to manage your time. She does not give extra credit.

Professor Olson helped me with grading every assignment helpfully and carefully, with amazing feed back , that I will later use in my years to come at both Cal State LA as well as in my career yet to come. She cares alot about ALL of her students. She doesnt give to much work but the few assignments she does give are most important and grade heavy.

This was my first class where i felt intimidated and scared by the structure, and from the get-go, I wasn't sure if I was going to pass the class, but Dr. Olson, you can confine in as long as you confine in yourself; she extremely wise and intelligent and is confident and proud of her expertise, you have to earn your grade, but it is well worth it!

Overall good professor, got to give credit to her because she genuinely looks out for her students and wants the best for them. As this is a writing class, she sets you up perfectly to write up various types of papers like research papers, argumentative papers, etc. She sits down one-by-one with you and gives you feedback on your writing also

She was a great professor in my opinion she gives great feedback and a genuine person, but her work is a little confusing but honestly it's not that bad as well as the professor has some hilarious story's, but she does talk a lot though so honestly, it's up to you but I would say she's a great professor.

The class was not difficult, the assignments lead into the papers that we had to write for the semester. The papers get progressively easier and there is better grading toward the end of the semester. You will see improvement with your writing over time.

Easy class to pass as long as you do the work that is give. Work is only worth 1 point which is good because if you miss an assignment it wont really affect you. She is funny and caring and takes time out of her day just to meet with you during papers to get feedback and help you improve.

Lots of freewriting which was great. Achieved purpose of building foundational skills for college writing. If you are taking 1010, it's probably very different from previous methods of writing you have used. Fair grader, but you are being graded by a college standard. The grading ends up being nicer due to certain policy details.

I enjoyed my time with Dr. Olson. She became a very special professor to me during my freshman year in college. I will say there were times I would lose focus when she was speaking because I wasn't always attentive or familiar with the topic. That doesn't mean she isn't speaking about beneficial things one can apply to the rest of their life.

This class is a full 180 from your average high school English class. In my experience, I can write longer papers and I felt my writing vastly improved. The first English essay appears scary, but the further you get into this class, the easier it becomes. If you are aiming to improve your writing skills I fully recommend taking this class.

She never gives us tests and all assignments are fairly easy. It's mostly reading and writing and she can be funny.

The class is very easy to follow.

I loved Professor Olson's English 1010-62 class, she is also very caring for her students and will always do her best to help her students. Her class really helped me a lot this year as a freshman, she made english more engaging with all her students and we only write 3 papers in the semester and they are all based off articles we do homework on.

I wanted to take a moment to say she teaches excellent. She explain's everything very clearly, and it's evident that she enjoys teaching her class. I always learn new things and appreciate her dedication to making the material understandable and engaging.

I enjoyed this professor, she gives good feedback on how to strengthen as a writer and provides workshops that can help you if you take advantage of them. Easy class with no tests and just essays, I also found myself having a fun time with this class, would recommend anybody who is thinking of taking this class to take it with Professor Olson.

Professor Olson is truly an amazing inspiring professor I had an amazing time in her class, and I would definitely take her class again!!

This class was very funny. Dr.Olson was good at lecturing but kind of a tough grader. At the end, it was a very good class.

She really helped me improve my English writing and always made time for zoom conferences for improvement and clarification on papers and homework.

Judy Olsen's abilities including her teaching style is great and you will guarantee to improve your writing. As a teacher she clearly tells you what you can improve on for the future which is good. If you do the work it is very easy and you will have no complaints at all. The students that don't do their work are the only ones who complain.

prof olson is probably one of the few teachers who's lectures will actually help you in real life in a practical sense. only one unit of homework is needed to get a homework grade for the semester and the papers are self explanatory and easy if you do the homework. very clearly cares for the outcome of her students futures and wants to help them

Professor Olson will always be there for you and will answer all your questions. She made me realize it's okay to mess up and try again to leave it behind and start all over. She taught me that mistakes are good and there is nothing wrong with making mistakes she taught me to manage my time and not be so serious. I would take this class again 10/10

Very passionate about what she teaches, especially who she's teaching. Every class is worth attending. Not work heavy. Attend all the workshops, they help in the long run. PARTICIPATE AND INTERACT WITH OTHERS! Talk to people next to you, even if it's just to ask a question. Always take her feedback. Never wait last minute to do an essay.

Professor Olson is great! Her material helped me approach assignments in a new way and encouraged deeper engagement with the content. Thanks to her guidance, I connected more personally with the work. It's easy to succeed if you stay on track and put in your best effort. Highly recommend her class :)

I can see how others would see her as intimidating. Honestly I just view her as passionate and energetic about teaching. She very clear about grading and gets grading done in a quick manner which was very nice to see tbh. As long as you follow instructions you wont have any problems.

Professor Olson was intimidating at first but she's genuinely the best english teacher i've ever had. As long as you don't get your first paper's grade get you down, you'll start to understand her teaching and grading style which is really straight foward and easy to grasp.

Professor Olson grades based on improvements and give amazing feedback to be sure every student has the opportunity to improve. Class is fairly easy with little to no notes. Great professor and great class.

Dr. Olson is my favorite professor! She likes to talk, but its not just about the lecture. She enjoys conversing with her students. She does give homework, but it's very simple and she goes over it before its due. Theres 3 papers all of which is an accumulative grade based on improvement. She's easy if you follow along with her !

This professor is amazing, very inspiring, and empowering. I would 100% retake this class and take another class with the same professor.

Although my grade for this class may not be the best, it was my fault, not hers. She's actually a great professor, I would definitely take her class again. Very good professor, she really made think about the education system and help know a little bit more about college and how important it is to have connections.

Professor Olson is a great teacher and truly cares about making sure her students learn something from her lectures, readings, and homework. If you show improvement in your work, you'll do well in this class especially since Professor Olson gives good feedback/encourages you to keep trying your best. Take her class, she's amazing!
