Shes a tough teacher. She likes things to be done a specific way and there is no room for variations. By the end of the semester though when concepts are more easily grasped it will be easier. If you like a Latin American influence in your learning take her class.
I do not recommend her English course for non-native speakers because her accent is very heavy. Her assignments are not announced very well and the syllabus was changed so many times it was almost pointless. Discussions were mostly dull.
she does have a thick accent, & she have quite a temper if you make disagreeable opinions during class discussion, it is better to just not say anything. she tries to make everyone pass, very accomodating, but will try to intimidate you with her grading technique.
I took this class and completely regretted it. She is one of the worst professors i've had. She is very unclear on what she wants, discussions are useless, her grading is HARD, and the is no personal variations on essays.
Horrible professor, wastes time with useless comments and movies. Awful!
this professor was one of the worst professors that i have ever take, she changes the whole syllabus around. She isnt much help when writting papers, she grades hard and yet doesnt tell you precisely what she want. I do not recomend her to anyone looking to take ENG 102 just to get bye. Worst eng 102 prof. i have taken
Judy teaches a hard subject to grasp. I can honestly say I hated her for the first couple weeks. By midterm 80% of the class droped. Regardless I have learned through classes she is fair and compasionate with students who come to her for help. You WILL NOT pass enles you time to met her in her office for help. If you do you will. She is verry clear

She has such a thick accent and tends to change her mind alot. She confuses the class and is very demanding! Her grading is hard and confusing, she sometimes seems impatience with the class and has bad writting.
Her accent can sometimes get in the way. At times it seems as if she's speaking spanish (her native tongue). Be prepared to fail the first few papers. Her directions aren't clear and you won't discuss the paper until after the class does poorly on it. She really doesn't follow the syllabus so don't stay up all night trying 2 do the hw. Very Hard!!
Thi teacher is great
Be prepared to get fustrated with her its because she wants you to get it. Work load will start off slow at first but you will be drowned in the last days of class. She is a great teacher, loves 4 U to come to her office and she'll give you all the help in the world. It may be fustrating @ 1st but hang in there like I did!!!! I got an A!!!
Professor Rivera van Shagen was a very helpful teacher in every aspect of the class. I was in her English 102 class that took place in the evening and she made it pleasant to come to class after a full day of working. Although she is tuff at times and voices her concerns for some students, she always encouraged every student to do their best.
she seem intimidating but once you get involved in her class, she isn't as horrible as you thought.
This teacher is crazy, She does whatever she wants, I had a very hard time understanding her, she doesn't have much patience and she expects you to understand everything out of the books. She gets mad easily and will tell you her life story. She always wants you to see her outside of class... oh and shes very specific
She is horrible! She is very confusing and not consistent at all. Be prepared to get mostly negativity from her. Her speaking is just rambling and all her words seem to run together as if she was speaking Spanish (her native language) She will fail you if you do not agree with her theories all the time. If you protest then she will grade you poorly
Judy is very helpful. The class challenges students to THINK, which many students are unwilling to do. Attendance is another requirement many students disliked. While she may grade tough for Chicago City College, she gives plenty of er extra credit.
She does NOT force you to think. Forces you to think the way she thinks. Rubric is incredibly confusing and she does not follow it, grading is completely unfair. I haven't met one person who enjoys her teaching, unless they say it to suck up to her for the good grade. I loved to write until I took this class. Horrible.
I used to love writing until her class. When you turn in what she says she wants, she says you didnt do what I asked. Very confusing, very difficult to understand, because of her english & her directions are not clear. She doesnt really explain until AFTER the paper is handed in. I absolutely hate this class & I really regret taking it.
I took her class this summer and it was horrible. she was willing to help though.I got out with a C.
I've taken both college honors english and Eng102 before at another University (had to drop due to circumstances) and I know that this class does not have to be structured the way van-Schagen does it. She's confusing and demanding. Also, it gets considerably harder towards the end which means that there's a lack of balance. Don't pick her.
Most horrible proffessor in the World.. Not sure where what school she went to but they obviously did a horrible job. She hates the world, and she is miserable, she talks like a child, very disrespectful, she thinks shes is she is just ignorant very Ignorant. My 5 year old sister would do a better job.
She's a very strict teacher, but if you do EXACTLY as she says, you'll do good. This is one class not to daydream in since you never know whether you'll need the information later. I do have to say, a couple of times she would get me mad because she doesn't accept a point of view that's not hers. Sometimes i liked her, sometimes i didn't.
Very cool class - watching movies and writing about them. Does take some thought and work put into it. Class discussions were intriguing and the teacher did well leading them. Came out with a lot to think about.
Will ask for students opinions but will shoot them down if they do not agree with hers. Not a good teacher; very unclear and really believes she owns the truth. Very unpleasant overall.
hard to understand her with that accent..loses all our work..unprepared sometimes..unorganized...her syllabus is useless about 90% of the time..random pop up quizzes..unclear most of the time...stay away from her
This class requires a ton of work but I feel that its for a good reason( preps you for the big paper and gets you reading ) The writing skills you learn you can use in future classes and in real life. Yeah the amount of work sucks but its actually useful and interesting and so is the teacher.
I understand the negative reviews because Judy's classes are hard since she's very demanding. But if you get more involved in class and participate, she'll be more lenient. she's also open minded as long as your argument is well built and consistent. Don't be afraid to ask her for help!
Just terrible teacher. Please don't take this horrible her class. You'll learn nothing. I'm pretty sure.
She is a GREAT teacher. I cannot think of a class where I had learn so much. Yes, her class was very demanding, but it did help me a lot. If you're not a slaker this is your class.
My first assignment with this women was not communicated well at all! After her review, everyone had done it the wrong way, it was our fault. She's the English teacher, it obviously wasn't communicated well at all.
As a person nice but as a 102 English teacher nit picky. something will always be wrong, consistently gives C's to the entire class, very confusing quiz questions that are unclear. If you oppose something that she is trying to impose in class have a damn good argument but your probably wrong.
She can be kind of demanding. Ask for help! You must participate which isn't hard especially if you love to read. btw, you must read the stories! She is a nice woman, but has some personal issues she has to resolve with a therapist not her students.
I don't understand all the angst, granted she is a harder and "nit picky" professor, she promotes creative and constructive thinking. Everyone who attends a city college is just hoping for an easy ride, but there are professors out there who want their students to think outside the box and not laze by in class.
I really liked her, but she was confusing from time to time. If you didnt understand somehing, just go to her office. She is very willing to help her students; she came to school on a saturday to help her students with their essays. I dont know any other teacher like her. Again, go to her office she is VERY sweet in person
She was very particular about what she wanted but as long as you are willing to work hard then you will be fine. I got an A and I didn't have to do anything extraordinary to earn that grade. Just pay attention and do the work and you will be fine.
She is a great professor, yet you have to work hard. If something is unclear, just go to her office and ask her for help; she is willing to do that. She can be a VERY helpful professor ONLY WHEN you ask for some help. If you want to sit and pass the class learning nothing, do not take her class.
I would not take her again due to the work she gives out and the way she words her questions are a bit confusing and you do have to ask her what her meaning is.
She deducts points if you have to excuse yourself from the class for any reason. She's very strict, and is unclear at times and not so understanding in others.
Everything she says is confusing. You will never, ever get an A on her essays or writing assignments. More than half the class dropped because she was not clear and too strict.
She does not make it easy to understand what she wants in an assignment.
Only a lazy student would have a problem with this teacher. You have to work hard. My writing was thousands of times better leaving this class than entering it. It's obvious that this professor cares a lot about whether we learn in her class, and she is always available to help. She is also super smart and rad. Five stars.
Extremely passionate about what she does, and is very helpful if you are unclear about anything, very welcoming office hours. It is a lot of reading but she assigns very interesting literature. She will question your assumptions, but like any statement be sure you can back it up. Recommended to ALL ambitious students (especially English majors).
Dry personality, fights back with students, very hard teacher, usually get A's or B's? Expect your A or B effort to land you a C. She's very picky, usually always has negative feedback on papers. I never once got an A in this class but got straight A's in eng102..
Worst teacher ever. She is not help at all and she very confusing with her assignments.
You cannot get by doing only the bare minimum. This professor is very extroverted and can be coarse. Stop by her office as she is energized from creating solutions together and will tell you exactly where your errors are without soft pedaling. Proactivity matters to her, as long as you are interested in doing your best ; She WILL help you.
You can easily get an A just by following her rules, doing assignments and paying attention in class. She gives a lot of extra credit, too (If you did something worth it of course). The textbook she is using is really cheap and you will use it a lot.
Do not expect to recieve an 'A' in the class. She is unclear in her directions, and is very combative when asked for clarification. She will praise one moment, then use you as an example to the class on 'what not to do'. She also has a large ego. You will hear multiple times that she has a PhD. That's about the one thing she will be clear about
Absolutely frustrating. If your opinion doesn't match up with hers then you are just WRONG. She is never clear in her directions for assignments. Deducts points for simply leaving the room for ANYTHING. I have always received good grades in English classes and I will be lucky to leave this class with a 'C'. DO NOT waste your money on this teacher.
UNCLEAR! The entire class, at times, would come into class with the homework done, and, according to her, it was all done wrong. But she was the one who assigned it. I think she picked who she would help because she helped out a friend when she went to see her in her office, but scolded me when I went to see her. I dropped the class. Please avoid!!
Judy is THE WORST HUMANITIES TEACHER EVER! she barely speak English, cant clarify what she's trying to teach the class, there is no structure to the class. Its unorganized and all over the place. She contradicts everything she says, she wants you to come to her office and beg for good grades, she does NOT grade based off a grading scale. just bad
Will teach you a lot if you can get past the mountains of work and irrationally hard grading. Our class started our with 30-something students and ended with about 11. Not sure all even passed. English is one of my best subjects and I barely came out of this passing. Prepare yourself.
She is a very hard grader, but it is all worth it. i am very glad i stuck through the class because she made my writing a 100 times better. I ended her class with an A. with a little push, it is very possible. she is a very smart woman and knows what she is talking about. Visit her in the office, do the grammar & all the essays and you will be ok.
Everything has to be done in her specific way exactly for you to get points, no shortcuts at all, and she lives by her syllabus. Her teaching style is throwing a topic out for the class to discuss and will spend a whole class complaining about lack of participation. You are not allowed to leave class, eat, drink, or have electronics of any kind.
She is the worst teacher I took in our college in 3 years. If you do not talk to her in class, you got low precipitation grades. You can not get good grades ever for writing assignments. She always says she is PHD, so she should not see the writing like yours. When you come to her office and show some writing to her, she never had a smile face.
She emphasizes her PHD and that's about all she is clear on. Going to her office to talk about your paper ends up being talking about personal matters and that is how you earn your grade! drop the class
Not Helpful and a Tough Grader.
Do not take this class! This was the hardest class I had ever taken. She is not very clear when it comes to assignments and often confuses students. Van Schagen is very strict, She doesn't allow you to make up assignments if you are ill. Van Schagen also does not do well with preparing students for the exit exam. I would not recomend her.
Terrible terrible terrible!
I learned a lot taking this class and proved to myself that I could succeed in college. I went to her office everyday and she was very kind and helpful. I learned how to make my writing college material and learned grammar that made me succeed in the final essay. Also even though I am rather shy I participated everyday, just be a hard worker.
I'm 4 weeks into her class and it's the worst. All her lectures include minimum talking through the 4 books that are required for the class and mostly asking students why they haven't done the homework, why they don't use her templates, etc. It's a waste of time that will leave you feeling stressed beyond belief. She has an accent & talks fast.
She is an absolutely horrible teacher, she is not clear on what she's teaching but expects you to know. It is hard to understand her when she talks, she mumbles, and jumps from subject to subject. She is there if you ask for help but comes down on you for having to ask. She gives extra credit though.
Her class is tough but with hard work and persistence, you can pass the class with a B if not an A. Many people complain that her class is hard but if you take good notes, do the homework, and participate in class, you will have the grade you deserve. Her accent isn't an issue, just pay attention.
Terrible. Terrible. She is very opinionated (too opinionated) and frankly, she exhibits patronizing superiority. Though the course work isn't too hard, she is very particular on her grading and she focused on every little detail when it comes to her grading. I do not recommend this professor.
She's a tough and strict teacher. Her essay assignments are unclear sometimes. You have to actively participate to get a grade. She says 70% of the work should be done by midterm or she'll drop you then says if you don't have a 70% grade in her class she'll drop you. If you leave during class she'll take away your participation points.
her accent is a big issue for me :(
The worst professor I've ever taken. Had us buy 4 books for class and she handed us pamphlets to read instead. Assignments were never clear, you'd have to see her outside of class after assignments given to know what she wants. Spoke poorly of all men. She'd put you on the spot and make you feel dumb for having an opinion different than hers.
A horrible teacher, she is heavily opinionated, is quite cocky with the way she acts. She is very unclear on what she wants you to do in assignments, then proceeds on dumping a workload on you, stripping every detail and instead of helping you correct your mistake, she tells you it's garbage and to refer to the worksheets, never actually teaching.
This class she created herself. She isn't as bad as others make her out to be. You just have to read, participate in class, and make the changes on your work that she takes the time to make comments on.
Absolutely absurd grading, I've always been an English master and even received a perfect score on my exit essay, yet somehow I barely passed this class. You cannot miss any days and do not expect sympathy if you do decide to attend any courses. (Prayers to students who do decide to attend)
Dropped the class! She is a strict professor. She was unclear on all the assignments she assigned. Her accent was a problem for me. It's as if she forced her students to participate and I honestly didn't like that. Do not recommend her!
If you are a robot and can be reprogrammed, this class is for you. But if you are a normal student and want to improve your English skills, this class will do the opposite. I am a decent writer, but if you do not write the exact way the she wants, she will give you a "F". She is unclear, unfair, and a terrible teacher.
She's been through a lot, her teaching style isn't the best, but I must say thanks to her I was able to push myself into places I didn't think possible. She is really tough at grading, you must participate. If you don't want to work, don't take her.
I took her class over a decade ago at HWC and still I speak of how great a professor she was. She was demanding, but she gave great feedback and provided us with every opportunity to improve our knowledge and skills in English. If you think she's an awful professor, you're probably lazy OR have no interest in taking college English classes.
I would not recommend taking her class. She is very strict in grading and shows no sympathy for late assignments. It was a very rough semester.
Wayyyyyy too opinionated. I have interest in putting effort in this class and aren't lazy but she grades way too harshly and is probably the worst in giving feedback as she refers back to any other useless template and her syllabus instead of giving worthy feedback as a teacher that helps.
Took two classes with this prof, Eng 102 and Hum 145. Class involved reading works, discussions, and writing assignments; very little lecturing occurred. Grading was very tough and criteria unclear. Prof frequently rambled during class and expressed political and religious opinions. All quizzes were unannounced writing prompts. Dropped after Midte
I took this class Fall 2017. The professor was unclear in regards to what she expected of the assignments. Meeting her during office hours also did not effect my level of understanding of what she expected as she would ramble and not make sense of her own corrections on your work. She was also condescending. Would not recommend for any subject.
The Class is tough, and there is a lot of work that needs to get done, she is a wonderful person that has challenged me to push myself though the course, pay close attention to what she says and review your work, clarification can be an issue some times but give her a chance, organization is a big part in this class!!
A tough grader, lots of readings and papers. She is nice and all, but would not take her again.
You can tell she is very nice and caring outside of class, but her teaching was polar opposite. She constantly complained about not wanting to be there. She also jumped from topic to topic making it difficult to understand assignments. I dropped the class and instantly felt relief.
I took her class fall of 2017 and at first I thought maybe she wasnt too bad but as the semester progressed it was just messy. She would switch from topic to topic and would speak very low that it would be hard to hear or understand. She was not clear with assignments and would get upset when students asked for clarification or follow up questions
Just dont.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. She is one of those professors who does not answer any questions and will refer you back to the syllabus-but the syllabus is inadequate and unclear . She also did not know how to use BrightSpace so finding the homework and navigating the site was awful. Only positive is that you can use all of your notes.
She's really strict and does prepare you for the exit essay. The only bad thing is that you can't always hear her during class and she grades way too heavy, if you miss one assignment, goodluck. She always expected good essays and even gave points for revision but you had to make an appointment with her and her feedback wasn't always the best.
Prof. Rivera has an accent that can make it difficult to understand her at times. She is a tough grader, however, you can revise assignments and turn them in during office hours. Assignments can be tough. If you miss 1 important assignment, it can really bring down your grade. She does prepare you for the exit exam which is a pro.
Horrible professor. I just took this class the first day. I already feel like she is confusing. When she handed me the syllabus of the grading criteria. I cannot even understand at all. Dont take her class. If you have drop it. She has a very heavy accent which is hard to understand.
She is an amazing teacher! She is very honest and objective. She will make you work had for your grade, and she is kind of hard grader but that is because you knows students have the ability to the work. She asks to take time reading and to read critically. She expects you to come to class have read chapter and with questions.
I wouldnt take her again but while i am in her class she is amazing but she gives out alot of assignments and its exhusting at times she does have a accent and speaks low but the good thing is if you need help she will help you every monday there is a quiz on the book but sometimes her lectures can be boring
Regret taking this class with her.
constantly complains. Sends emails out every week if not every day. The syllabus is not clear. A lot of work. A lot of notes. A lot of reading and writing, Speaks very low. Hard Grader!!!!!
Dr. J. Rivera-van Schagen is very unclear with assignments and lectures. You have to read in-between the lines to understand the substance of her lessons and even then there's a small chance that what she says makes any sense. A good 7% of every class is wasted complaining about students and another 5% wasted complaining about her tragic life.
Quite possibly one of the worst professors I've ever had. All she does is complain about how she hates everything and how she'll never be happy. You WILL have a low grade if you do not share out loud in class. You will literally be writing about the same boring topics within every writing assignment, homework, and essay that she hands out, which is
She is a very tough grader and is very strict in what she says.
Profesor Rivera-van Schagen is not the nicest professor out there. She is not specific with her assignments and essays and when you ask to be more specific she repeats herself and gets frustrated. Despite doing your best, it will never be an A in her eyes. One thing for sure that will keep your grade up is participating in class discussions.
Professor Rivera van-Schagen is a very tough grader. There has not been a time where my peers and I have received an A on an assignment. Its also frustrating when trying to understand her because she rushes through every assignment. Also, she brings her outside problems into the classroom which effects her mood with her students.
Honestly Im typically a person who gets As Bs in writing but in her class there was not a time I got an A, extremely tough grader. Everyone in class was confused with her assignments and her grading rubric was messy. Her class gave me many mental breakdowns
She is very unclear with instructions and when you ask for a clarification everything is still confusing. Nobody in the class had higher than a C and she didn't bother communicating the issues. Do not take!
Professor Judy Rivera Van-Schagen is a true inspiration! ENG102 was certainly a struggle but improved both my research and writing skills. If you're struggling she is always available during office hours and provides insightful feedback about assignments. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK HER FOR HELP! She truly has the students best interest at heart.
I took this class but decided to drop it. When I would email her she would never respond. She says shes very conservative and seems bothered to talk about gender studies. I did not learn a single thing just remember her mentioning buber all the time. I do not recommend her, she clearly has some anger she takes out on students.
First off, she's just straight-up rude. Lack of respect for her students is clear, and willingness to work with them is nonexistent. Getting good grades is near impossible, which makes one wonder how incompetent a teacher has to be to result in nearly an entire class's lack of success.
She was never specific about the assignments. This was the class I worked the hardest in and I got the worst grade in (LOL). And she grades way too harshly considering this isn't even a class we were taking as a requirement for a major. She also wasted a lot of classtime by ranting about all the things we did wrong rather than actually teaching us.
I appreciate professor like Judy Rivera Van-Schagen. I took two of her classes 14 yrs ago. What an amazing experience it was. She challenges students to THINK CRITICALLY and analyze the world around them. It isn't for the faint of heart. I just took a Humanities course with her and it was pure bliss. HWC is lucky to have a professor of her caliber.
Because of this professor, she made me rate her, and normally I don't rate professors or even visit the rate my professor websit. Her class was so terrible and unorganized!! She is hard to understand and her instructions very unclear. Her office hours were very unhelpful. She would criticize work but don't find ways to make suggestions.
I understand why other people have given her a bad score on this website, she can be tough, however, if you work with her and visit her during office hours she will help you get to where you need to be. I was thinking about dropping the class at one point but decided to stay and I'm glad I did. She is a great professor & would take her class again
Personally, I did not feel like she was someone that was easy to communicate with. I could not wait for the semester to be over with.
She is very hard but also considerate when you visit office hours. You have to participate and show youre not here for a grade and work hard for it
Honestly I did not take this class, but I heard a lot of complaints from my friends. I am just trying to watch out for yall. If I get a dislike on this post you know it was her.
The lack of clarity in this class is absolutely staggering. She rants and raves about how important it is to meet with her after class to develop a better understanding of your work, but you'll leave this "feedback session" even more confused and with a long list of critiques that don't have any clear indication as to what they relate to.
She does not respond to emails. A thick accent and lack of proper communication skills make it hard to understand. Assignments should be easy but with her, you will leave more confused than you went in. The grading criteria are not clear. We ended the semester with half the students we started wtih.
Horrible communication skills, horrible with feedback, overall just a bad experience she made even the most simple things confusing.
She talks about herself the whole class and knows how to make you feel dumb lots of writing very tough grader not very understanding just 1/10 1 because theyre pretty good conversations that happen in that class about various topics
I made this account just to rate the professor. Their class was tough, The guidelines were hard to follow and rarely gave back proper feedback. My papers would normally receive a C or lower due to the fact that the heading was wrong, missing contractions, spelling mistakes etc. It was never corrected about what I wrote.
I took this professor in both English 101 , and English 102 this last school year. I struggled a lot in English 101, even debating dropping her class but I pushed through and it honestly made taking her in English 102 very easy for me. Bottom line is I would not recommend taking this professor if you are not up for a challenge.
Her instructions are never clear to the class. When she lectures, half of the time she is only talking about herself. The other half she talks about the work we have to do as a class, but does not provide any useful information as a teacher if someone is confused or has a question.
The work is just like any other English class, but professor makes it seem like we're writing best selling books. Her lectures are all over the place. Instructions do not make sense. she'll find something to drop your grade for. Her feedback on assignments don't make any sense, she says what we didn't do and doesn't give us ways to try to improve.
This professor speaks in circles and has yet to make a single clear and concise point during lectures. She says one thing, and does the other. She grades very low and her expectations are quite high, considering every class announcement she posts is error heavy. Micro manages class, talks down to people and leaves us confused.
These instructions should give you insight on how this class is. "Keep in mind that when you write a comparison/contrast essay you either compare or contrast BUT DO NOT DO BOTH. But if you compare, you must begin by contrasting, and if you contrast, you begin by comparing." This makes no sense!
Her lectures + powerpoint slides literally make no sense. do not take her class at all because when you ask her questions, she will confuse you even more. also, if you want to revise a work, you HAVE to attend her office hours. she is not even flexible with her office hour timing if we can't be able to go.
Most illogical class ever. Powerpoint presentations do not have examples, only statements that we are supposed to understand. Students always got confused as to when something is supposed to be due. She views written work as a series of highly organized blocks and her reliance on them is insane. Inference does not mean anything to this professor.
weak as hell
4 weeks in and this is already the worst class experience I've ever had. Her powerpoints are useless, and she has yet to provide a single example of how our work should look. It is funny because the one time she gave us an example, it wasn't one of how our work should look.
she sucks at explaining directions, doesn't care about her students, gives bad grades if you don't do things the way she wants you to do it. she puts students on blast for no reason, doesn't teach her students anything besides taking up class time telling her life.
Really bad at explaining and rude to students. Wants her work turned in the way she wants and if not she will give you a 0. Very difficult to understand. Had to drop her class because it was really overwhelming.
If you value your mental health do not take up this course. This professor is extremely inconsistent and confusing about what she asks for as far as assignments. She will say one thing during class time and another thing during office hours, it is extremely difficult to fulfill what she wants.
Its best to talk to her during her office hours for any questions about your assignments. Overall, she is helpful and answers emails back in a timely manner.
I'll be genuine and honest. As a student, you deserve clear and concise guidance, which can aid in your academic success. This professor is unable to provide this, so I will highly suggest you to look elsewhere. If you want to save your grade and maximize your potential, choose professors who will help you grow and succeed.
By far the worst instructor I have ever had. Never have I experienced more inconsistency and less structure in a class. Grades more on personal preference than guidelines given. The instructions you will receive are error-heavy and hard to follow, ironic given an ENLGISH teacher who removes points for simple typos such as an extra letter (ex: andd)
Her lectures go in circles, nonsense. Clarification? Says you aren't trying. Grading is NOT guideline based, only opinion. Says follow the templates, but if you do it's plagiarism! Egotistical + belittles you in class. AVOID HER. If you get stuck in her class, play nice, don't miss class, kiss up to her, because that's what narcissists love to hear
One of the worst professors I have had. She fixes your sentences and when you turn it in, she tells you it doesn't make sense even though she technically wrote it. Belittles students if they can't answer the question and always has an attitude.
Looking at all the bashed comments of Professor Judy Rivera Van Schagen from students that didn't get the grade they wanted doesn't justify the review of her. Using her office hours is important in the success of this class. She will be hard to understand at times, ask questions! Overall not as bad of a professor as students portray. Be attentive!
I was super excited for my first semester at harold until I had this class. The professor is extremely confusing and she is difficult to understand. She was even rude to me at some point when I asked her a question after class and she said, "Read the directions!" and stomped out of the classroom leaving me standing there alone and embarrassed.
