Good teacher, but the course can be pretty hard, ESPECIALLY if you dont know politics. She makes the best of a HORRIBLE situation. I barely escaped with a C, be warned.
Professor was very good teacher. Gives study guide and everything on the study guide is on the test. Really knows the topic. Makes class interesting. Exactly half of the tests are on lecture and half on reading. She tells you what to study in each.
Nice and Funny
Very down to earth, funny teacher. She makes her lectures pretty interesting. For the tests, she gives you a study guide and reading list..those are the only things you need to study to do really well on the tests. She also drops your lowest exam. Take her class. It's a good one!
Very funny. Has great stories. Tests can be a little challenging because she doesn't go over the book much. Tests are based on half lecture- half book. Crack open the book once in awhile and you'll do fine.
Cool prof, but you definitely crack the book open.
she is soooo Great...tought me much more then just posc...also tought me how to study, great way to start out at college. Wounderful metor for students just starting out...although her class is not a brezze you HAVE to go...but wait to read the book until she gives you the review sheet.
great class! the lectures are interesting however the test can be a little tricky.. when she goes over the test take notes!!!
she is amazing. is really enthusiastic about what she does and makes you feel the same way with her stories. take this class, but go to class and read the book and review before a test, theyre all tricky.
she is a very cool teacher. it helps if you know/remember us history or government from high school. her interesting stories make time fly by pretty fast, but her tests are worded kind of tricky, but if you read and review notes, you should be fine.
She's a really good teacher. Tells good stories. She know alot about the subject and makes it fun to learn. The tests are straight forward: 1/2 lecture, 1/2 book. Take alot of notes in class and you'll do fine. Take this class!
fun teacher...recommended...
she was very interesting and knew a ton. i had trouble on the tests cuz i didn't read just took notes but i got by just fine. just make sure you take notes and read a lil. you'll enjoy it i hate history but this class was good.
This was one of the best classes I've taken. She is one of the best teachers I've had even though she gave me a B-. She knows a lot about PoSc and makes the class very interesting. I only wished she taught other classes because I enjoyed this one so much. Class consists of 4 tests (lowest score dropped), final, and 2 papers. Take papers seriously!!
Very entertaining and easy to understand. Definitely study in her class even though she gives freebies as much as she can.
real fun teacher to have. is very helpful when preparing for tests.
She's awsome. I reluctantly learned a lot. you don't need to buy the book, just look everything up on the web.
Yeah, cows go moo... and aliens abduct... it's that simple. Oh, about Stambaugh, yeah, she's really cool and I'm really glad I was fortunate to have her because I used to hate Political Science. Now I actually LIKE it. So yeah, don't forget that pigs go &q

its either 100, or 101, i dont remember, she is a good professor, very down to earth, and her class is very interesting, her tests can be tricky, but if you study its not really that hard. the only thing is, you need to have a good notes system, because she just talks, and she loves interacting with students, its great. and she's not to bad on the eyes either!
ummm she's really cool. and i do good on her tests. hah. the last one there were 7 b's and i got one of'm (out of a class of 58). hah.
Great Teacher! She does a great job at explaining the material clearly and makes class fun with lots of interesting facts and stories. Easy class to do well in.
Good professor. Knows her stuff. Is willing to help if you need it. Just read the chapters and pay attention to her lectures and you'll pass. Relatively easy course. No real graded work besides tests and 2 papers.
I didn't even do that well in the class but I still liked & recommend her. Lectures can get a little boring, but what doesn't? It's only boring if you're not interested in the subject (like myself). But she's entertaining & awesome! 4 exams (lowest one dropped), 2 papers, & 1 final. Gives lists for what will be on the test.
FUNNY LADY. FUNNY STORIES. ALL YOU DO IS TAKE NOTES IN CLASS. 2 ESSAYS, 4 EXAMS, AND A FINAL. WILL DROP THE LOWEST EXAM. EXAMS ARE NOT TOO HARD IF YOU READ. SHE GIVES YOU A READING LIST AS WELL AS THE ANSWERS TO THE FINAL. ENJOYED THE CLASS ALOT =)
she is a good teacher and knows what she is talking about...alot of reading from the text book but she gives you exactly what sections to study for test. You don't have to try very hard to pass. She gives you all the answers to the final throughout the course.Only four tests(one dropped), two 3 page papers and the final...
She was a good lecture teacher. Info in lecture was exactly what was on the test so take notes! Come to class and ask questions is needed, she's very clear and precise and willing to help whenever. Do all the assignments and try your best, if you are on the edge of an A/B or B/C and she sees you attended/participated/tried, she will be graceful!
must come to class to do well on tests. amazing person. i love her.
She's really funny but she goes off on tangents which can be anoyying when you don't want to be in class. REALLY nice & if you are struggling, go to her office hours. She'll talk you through everything & she genuinely wants you to do well. Do the reading... it helps & the worksheets. If you try at all... you'll get an A!
Made the class super interesting. Always willing to answer questions. Didn't even write one of the papers & still got a B.
I hated political science but she makes it really fun and interesting. She likes to crack jokes alot but can be a little strict when it comes to interrupting her class. She lectures alot and is good at giving good notes.
she makes it easy as long as you go to class, seems genuinly helpful
She is very animated and is really nice. She makes the subject interesting. Must go to class and read.
I hate poly sci and she made it great! I would really get sucked in to her lectures and she was really funny!! you definately have to go to class and study... it was challanging but still good. I got a B and I worked pretty hard.
She is great! She really cares about her students and is always there to help! really good for freshmen because she starts the semester teaching you how to do well in all classes in general, she goes on ALOT of tengents, so if your bored ask her questions and it will tke up like 30 mins, not an easy A, but I still got a B and i didnt try that hard.
she talks wayyy too much and gets off track and goes on about nothing. tests dont make any sense and she talked for about 5 minutes on how to erase your choice...shes one of those GE teachers that thinks the class is the most important class you're going to take in college just cuz its required. i hate this class.
I had her this past semester and she is really great! She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is one of those teacher's that actually remembers who you are. I think I will always remember most of the material covered in her class. And she is a great story teller.
Intersting class but she goes off topic alot. Hard exams though, you really need to study or else you'll FAIL. I studied a little on the Gergen exam and got a C. No essays in this class and about 2 midterms, 1 Gergen exam, 1 Final. You actually need the book because she makes you do your own study guides and you can check them with hers in class
she is extremely hard!! you have to study good for her tests, they are very TRICKY. you have to be aware of whether the question is correct not only the answers!!! STUDY HARD! shes funny though and the class was related to us so it was interesting
She is one of the best professors I've had at csuf. She is really clear and pretty much guides you through the text. Class is extremely easy. Just go to class, read the book, and you'll be fine. It's a fun class too. I dont think i've ever liked a class this much before. Oh, and test are 95% of grades. The other 5% are attendance and classwork/hw.
She's funny and goes off topic a bit, but it's all related to the class and it helps to better understand some topics. Tests are most of your grade and 5% is participation+attendance. Tests are half from the book and half from the lecture, but everything she covers is on the test. You really have to study because she gives a lot of trick questions.
she is very nice & energetic! she is always willing to help you when you need it. tests are TRICKY.. you HAVE to know the events/issues THOROUGHLY. tests are 50% notes & 50% book. just study them and you'll be fine. i passed with a B =)
HORRIBLE. Needs to keep her political views out of her lectures. Her right-wing propaganda is irritating and doesn't belong in a 100 class. Her exams are confusing, but she does let you review them after for the make-up exam.
For a 7 am class she was very energetic -- it was crazy. Tests are tricky, do the reading and take good notes, you'll do well...
Friendly, helpful teacher who clearly loves her subject but presents it in sort of an esoteric way. Her lectures were engaging, informative, and best of all bipartisan but could get kinda haphazard at times. Not too much writing but a lot of hard reading, and very tricky tests. Basically...take her, you'll learn something, but expect to work hard.
She is hard if you do not study. If you at least review your notes, you will be fine with atleast a B/C which is the majority of what people get. I luckily passed with an A-. I recommend taking her for POSC 100!
Prof Stambaugh is enthusiastic, energetic, and entertaining. She is very helpful, informative and tries to be nonpartisan. Occasionally she will let her conservative view points slip, but don't let that keep you from taking her class.Class was very front loaded. There is a lot of reading, and several quizzes in addition to tests, and in class writing.
Stambaugh is really funny. She goes on tangents that are relevant to the lecture so that you can understand. She breaks it down and makes it easy to learn. Quizzes are easy! No HW. She uses real world events that relate to the lectures. Take her! She's is helpful, entertaining and easy.
this must be a jokei bet she wrote all those comments herself horrible teacher there were so many questions she couldnt answer it was embarrassing &mostly just uncomfortable to even watch.
This class is very straight forward. She has very specific notes that she shares, she scales it down because lots of non-poly sci kids have to take this class. You must pay attention to the readings, which aren't long to do well on tests. She ask obscure things, so scan and memorize the book like crazy for a good grade on the tests.
Too demanding for just a 315 course. Although she has no political agenda when she teaches, she clearly thinks that CSUF students are academically spoiled. Students are required to read, write, discuss, and memorize A LOT/TOO MUCH information. Definitely try to avoid her if possible. Very difficult to get an "A" and difficult to get a "B" or above.
notice how the easiness ratings for her classes are all low. not a GPA friendly instructor. if you miss class even once, your grade will suffer. she uses up the entire class time. u gotta read and take a crap load of notes to even pass the exams. all exams after the first one are hard. one of those classes where u learn a lot but get bad grade.
strict, no mercy, my class is the only one that matters type of a professor. teaches u about a ton of new stuff that u have to write down during class. only a small part of that is on her tricky exams. treats class like it is a mid 400 level class. class sucked cuz a certain nerd always raised his hands and typed so loud u wanted to slap him.
Professor is very clear informative but her test are hard. Her notes are useless, I read all chapters, horrible I rather take another professor, or wait an entire semester to take someone else..!! A type of class where you learn a lot but dont pass the class!
Dont take her if possible. She is too demanding and strict but you will learn a lot. You just wont get a good grade that's all unless you have a lot of free time. Always got the feeling that she goes out of her way to make things difficult for students.
She has to be one of the best teachers in CSUF in Poli. Sci. department. She cares about her students and really does teach. She is not an easy teacher, but if you actually try, you will get an A. I got an A. Her tests are a little bit tricky, but if you study, you're going to be fine.
An "A" for this course is only possible if you have excellent memory and extra time to treat this as a 5 unit course. Take this professor ONLY if you are taking 12 units or less and do not work. Yes, her class is that demanding. The few that received "As" studied more than likely studied their butts off and took 12 units or less and did not work.
(GOOD THINGS) punctual, professional, passionate about teaching, unbiased (BAD THINGS)basically forces students to do work during her office hours, unforgiving, strict, demanding, callous, GPA killer, overwhelming, mercurial, tricky multiple choice options, outline and 12 page hand-written final exam in 2 hours, no PowerPoint lectures. Overall 5/10
I seriously think she wrote these comments herself. She is a horrible professor who subtly bashes Obama and gay people. Totally right wing. Her tests are tricky and she doesn't teach! She has no structure or agenda, she just goes off on tangents. Don't trust the other ratings, she is a horrible professor and I wish I could drop the class. Take Hill
This class is hard. Test are tricky, you HAVE to read the books and take extensive notes to be able to pass. However, her lectures are extremly clear and straightforward, shes very charismatic and not boring at all. The subject is actually interesting when shes lecturing; theres a lot of class dicsussion. makes it a little easier for non-majors.
The final is ridiculous hard. Attendance isn't mandatory but you'll easily fall behind if you miss a couple classes.
I was so scared to take this class after reading these reviews, but I can honestly say this was my FAVORITE class of my entire time here at CSUF. She has a clear lecturing style, she's funny, she tells you what you need to know and she wants you to succeed. PS: Final research paper is NOT that hard! Just give it some honest effort. Take her!!!
Professor Stambaugh is a sweetheart. She has an opinion that is rare among professors at Fullerton, but that makes the class refreshing. Very interesting lectures, but a lot of work required, especially for a 300-level class. I recommend her if you're looking for a challenge.
Only 3 exams in addition to the in-class final essay. The class may seem easy due to the nature of the lectures, but dont be fooled. The exams have specific questions so carefully analyze the readings. Oh, and the professor has a pretty funny laugh.
Professor Stambaugh is hands down one of the best professors I've had at CSUF.She's extremely nice and approachable and relates the class topics to everyday life very well. The final wasn't THAT hard. I didn't even finish my essay but I still got an A because I did my research and it showed. I would definitely recommend her.
If you work Full Time only plan to take this class if have nothing else to do on your weekends. I should have listened when they said she is a GPA killer. This class is very challenging and includes lots of writing. She does not allow laptops in class. In addition the final is a 4-5 page in class 2hr handwritten final based on a one page outline
It is seemingly impossible to get an A in this class. The multiple choice tests are extremely detailed and she uses tricky language. She isn't that friendly and comes off arrogant. She only offers help when its in weeks in advance. DO NOT take this class with her.
Definitely a challenging class. Her lectures are interesting, informative and makes learning fun. Her exams are extremely hard. she needs to get out of here with her "All of the above, none of the above, a and c only" BS on exams. If you miss class you will fall behind. You will learn a lot. Overall, good professor but difficult class.
Interesting class easy to understand if you do all your readings. She doesn't use power point presentations, so you must attend class or you'll fall behind. 4 Exams and a written 10 page final in class. Tough class, but if you study hard you will pass!
She is a great teacher! I highly recommend her class but don't take it if you're looking for an easy A. She makes you EARN your grade and teaches you discipline. I am thankful to have had a teacher who reminds her students that higher education is a privilege! If you keep that mindset during her class, you will do very well. Loved the class!
Simply, hard exam (period). The whole exam is based on question which in themselves would warrant writing a paper on to get write. Not to mention, the almost all the question have "all of the above" and "none of the above choices"
Intersting and understanble lectures but overally hard exam. A gpa killer
If you want to maintain a high GPA and take a full course-load this class will not benefit you.
She believes that the only way a student should learn is by a lecture without the use of power points, visual aids, study guides or even a list of key points to look for in her lesson plan. It is hard to keep up and you will resort to studying all the time and still get a low score on the exams. Be warned that she WILL lower your gpa.
This class is not for the faint of heart. It is a very challenging class and if you're looking to work hard for your grade and still perform lower than expected, this is the class for you. She is very knowledgeable of the subject, she just doesn't instruct very well due to her strict nature and lack of visual aids. Your gpa will surely plummet.
This is a difficult class. You can stay up all night studying and still do bad. She somehow expects you to memorize 3 25-30 pg. articles for the final exam with only a notecard to help you write an 8-pg. in class essay. If you're taking this class, try to find a better professor.
Very rude, very hard. Struggled hard in this class and I am in no way a bad student. It's like she wants to make your life harder. Her class is all that matters, nothing else. Just take this with someone else. If she wants to make it impossible do yourself a favor and steer clear. Learned very little. Only what she wants.
Great Professor. Lectures are very clear and interesting. She's even generous enough to give you a note card for the final. Read the textbook and articles, show up to class, and you'll do just fine. No she is not a GPA killer.
She is a very good professor; with that said she switched some of her styles in her classes and they are indeed very, very challenging. I would definitely take her again because of her passion as well as for the insane amount of knowledge she gives. She is also fun to listen to.
dont take. i took this class for ge credits and it was a regret. i barely passed with a C. yes she is a gpa killer. very tough class, lots of reading, and final is brutal. you have to read 3 articles, about 40 pgs each, and only allows one notecard for final. good luck if you take her.
Judy is a quality professor and I definitely recommend her class. She actually lectures, no power points, just by oral communication. She allows ample time to write down notes. Class is tough, but doable. Also, annotate while reading. Judy makes the class enjoyable with funnywitty remarks and genuinely seeks to better her students.
In order to pass in the Mid terms (2) and Final (1), you would have to go ask during test "Does this questions apply to the lecture or the book?" because depending on her answer so should yours. She ACTUALLY told us to ask her for all sixit eight question ow we should our base our answer for the Multiple of Choice(s) and then there is essay too.
All in all pretty fair. Extremely tough grader. More reading than I've done in my entire college career and it HAS to be done if you expect to pass. She tends to go off on tangents, but they're funny, so most people don't care. Points are entirely from 2 in-class written exams and 2 multiple choice exams.
Judy is perhaps the best Professor in the PoliSci dept. The class is hard but you will learn a lot. Read the articles; I repeat, MUST read the articles to pass the class. The tests are a combination of the reading and the lecture, no surprises- she tells you exactly what to study for.
Harsh Grader. If you have a good GPA and do not want that to change, then do not take her. It is a fun class to be in but if you would rather learn and receive a good grade then do not take her. Multiple questions for the two exams and the final are tricky. Oh and Participate, participate, did I forget to say PARTICIPATE in class all the time.-5%.
Is Aceablepassable but caveat is that it requires much more studying than you might expect for a GE. NO POWERPOINT some info can only get in class some from book. If this isnt part of ur major dont take her, take an easier teacher your effort is better spent elsewhere. Exams require lot of differentialcritical thinking many choices r similar.
Mrs. Stambaugh is honestly an amazing professor, and it was such a surprise I ended up liking her since she has somewhat a conservative bias, but she has a great respect for everyone and opens your mind to both spectrums of political parties. She's a tough grader and you cannot forget or mess up on one test. Only take if you need it. Thanks Judy
Take her. Her lectures are pretty awesome, I enjoy the examples she gives---the analogies she makes are funny, and there weren't any times where I nodded off in her class. There is reading that she assigns, but it's not bad and most of it you don't really have to read read. Pretty easy class, take her. She's great.
She tries to be funny but her humor is an acquired taste. I found her rather annoying as I couldn't focus on what she was saying because she either used a weird voice or was just screeching. Long articles to read, lectures are not organized or clear. No homework besides reading, and straightforward but difficult tests.
She knows how to teach well by telling stories to connect it with currents events but she gives difficult tests that makes studying useless. I personally wouldn't recommend this unless you find this class easy.
One of the toughest graders, but the best lecturers I've had. The class does tend to get off topic because she lets students discuss for a bit too long and forgets to get back on track. But if you don't mind a bumb in your GPA then take this professor.
Prepare yourself for an overload of reading. Do not skip class because lecture is crucial part of your exams. ( 4 exams + 2 written in-class essay papers). VERY tough grader, and acts she acts like a english teacher. She has annoyance of students not knowing how to use proper english grammar on your papers. NOT offer extra credit. NO text book
I wish I'd had more time for her class. The reading just became too much and I only just passed the course with a C. But being a tough grader makes her among the top profs in the department. You will actually learn and you will enjoy learning because she has real stage presence and has a remarkable way of getting complex ideas across. Take her!!!
Her lectures are awesome but your whole grade is based on three exams and those three exams on bases on the lectures. She doesn't give power points, you have to take notes as she is talking. She doesn't use the book but gives a few questions on the exam from the book. HARD exams. Two in class essays. Like I said, good lectures, hard exams.
This class makes me wish I NEVER took AP Gov in high school, because CSU's make you take POSC 300 if you did. What a nightmare!! I am a business student doing well in my business classes and this is the class that i probably will have to retake in the summer. It is true, GPA killer, thinks shes an English professor, no PowerPoints, no study guide.
Stambaugh is a fantastic lecturer and made a 3 hour class breeze by quickly. However, she is unnecessarily difficult. It's not too hard to pass, but it requires effort, since her exams require a lot of detail and reading. It's annoying, but she isn't THAT hard, you just have to be willing to put in the effort and always attend her lectures
Professor Stambaugh is not a bad or mean professor but she is very difficult. A lot of her exams are mostly lecture based so if you are the kind of person that doesn't like to come to class if it isn't mandatory (like me), don't take her. Her written exams are really difficult and she is a VERY hard grader so beware of those.
The whole class is based off three exams. If you don't do well on your first exam your're pretty much screwed. Lectures and reading are 50/50 on the exam. There are 70ish MC questions and each exam and there is a written portion. If you don't pay attention lecture you might be screwed or if you don't read. Wish there was more than just exams.
This lady is NOT someone you want to take!! Take someone else
Her lectures are nonpowerpoint but I find that technique easier since it requires us to pay attention and after all her, exams are like 50% lecture and 50% based on the book which I did not buy but managed to pass. There are 2 written parts which is graded harshly. Buy the book if you want to pass. A good thing is that there is no C- in her scale.
In my opinion one of the worst professors at the school. Lectures are long and boring, with half hour tangents into unrelated topics. Her grading on the papers, 3 of which you need 80% on to pass the class, is completely subjective and unclear. The tests themselves aren't too bad but overall avoid this class however you can.
Professor Stambaugh is a great prof and I would definitely take her class again. If you want to pass the tests you have to show up to class and read the parts of the book she instructs you too. Always took time in class to answer any questions and talk about current political issues. Always looks at politics with a fair and balanced point of view.
Shes a great prof!! She actually cares for the students she teaches and is so helpful if you ask for help. 3 mupltiple choice exams 60-70 questions each and a mid term paper in class. She grades the mid term paper harshly. The mutiple choice exams are a breeze if you read the book. Just memorize the book ( its easy af).
Do yourself a favor, do not take her. Lectures are weirdly structured which makes studying difficult. 4 MC exams that aren't that bad I guess, but they aren't easy. The 2 written exams are absurd. You can receive an A, B, C, or a 0. Yes, you get zero credit if you don't get a C. Oh and she's very comfortable giving zero credit. Save yourself
Professor Stambaugh is one of the best professors Ive had. Shes funny, caring, and she knows what shes talking about. A majority of your exam will come from her lectures, so make sure you pay attention. She always tries to make sure you understand what is going on.
Professor Stambaugh doesnt used PowerPoint however her lectures are amazing, she goes in depth and really makes you understand what shes talking about. Shes pretty funny and sometimes quirky, but dont let that fool you; shes a tough grader when it comes to writing assignments and multiple choice tests arent that bad, study and youll be fine.
She does not use a textbook for this course which made the class hard to follow and disorganized. Lectures are boring with useless information. We read articles, but they were outdated or irrelevant narratives. Makes the class even difficult for poli sci majors. Writing packets graded super hard with a terrible grading scale (100%, 50%, or 0%).
Tests are multiple choice and based on lectures and readings. The writing packets are hard. You get full, half or no credit. No book required. Stays on topic for a long time. Talkative and no PowerPoint slides. Throughly grades and leaves well thought out comments. Aim on getting an A on all MC exams in case writing packet grade is awful.
She makes us write down notes on paper and never has any powerpoints so its a good idea to show up to class. Her lectures are hilarious and engaging, she clearly tells you what you need to know for the test. That being said, the class is based off 4 tests, and 2 written tests. 1 of which she drops. Shes an awesome teacher and helps students in need
There are only 2 written exams and 3 multiple choice tests that make up the whole grade. However, she gives 4 multiple choice tests and only counts 3 (which makes the final optional). Her written exams are tough. Any grade lower than a C automatically counts as a 0. Attendance isn't mandatory, but a large portion of the tests are based off of notes
I took a night class, she would be off topic for the first 20-30 minutes which was kind of annoying, but she would teach really well when she started teaching. She always wrote stuff down on the board and would go in order and explain everything. Always open to questions. She doesnt use PowerPoints, so if thats important dont take her.
Professor Stambaugh can be intimidating at first, she's strict about phones in class. Only because she truly cares about us learning about the material. I passed with a B which I was happy about. The tests aren't that bad if you read the book and attend class daily. She made the class fun.
Prof. Stambaugh doesnt use PowerPoint and doesnt allow laptops in class, but makes lectures interesting enough to not care about either of those things. Objectives and course content are very clear and easily accessible. She turns lectures into standup specials, gives minimal reading, and bases grades on only three exams.
It isn't an exaggeration to say that she is literally the worst professor I have ever had. She goes on long tangents and can go off schedule, which is a problem because she doesn't use powerpoint or a textbook. Tangents can last nearly 45 minutes. Also, if you get below a 70% on an essay she changes it to a 0%. She expects perfection only.
This class was by no means easy; I definitely worked hard just to get a C. However, it was possible, and Judy is an amazing person who genuinely cares about her student's success. I don't think I've ever had to try harder in any class, but it really helped me develop myself as a person, and also develop vital habits. College should always be easy
Prof. Stambaugh is a nice lady, but has no idea how to teach a class. She doesn't use textbooks or power points and she goes on tangents for almost the whole class and teaches random things every week that don't relate. There's no structure to her lectures and there's articles she posts that are on the tests but they don't relate and are outdated.
Professor Stambaugh was great. Although the grade for the class is based off 3 tests, a final, and 2 assignments she is an amazing teacher. She always makes sure the students understand the material, is very accessible and she drops your lowest test grade. Tests are multiple choice based on lecture and reading so make sure you read!!!
Stambaugh is awful. This was the worst class I have taken this semester. Insanely boring, lots of reading. If you hate political science do not take her. She has no study guides or powerpoints so you have to take good notes. She made me hate my life.
She grades very tough on the papers & doesnt use PowerPoint or allow laptops so she repeats what she wants us to write about 5 times until everyone has time to write it which seems like a waste of time. Not a super heavy work load but the assigned readings are usually very long & hard to understand. She is caring, funny & an engaging lecturer
This class is very easy, if you know anything about Politics or you did good in high-school politics you'll be fine, 4 exams all multiple choice around 50 questions, and the lowest one is dropped, and 2 assignments that take less than an hour and are due on the exam 1 and 2 dates. High-school was harder than this class.
She knows how to make lectures fun, only assigns two easy worksheets and a few chapters to read.
Professor Stambaugh was one of the best professors Ive had while at CSUF. Although she doesnt use powerpoints, her lectures are easy to keep up with and shell even repeat things if theyre on the exams. Tests are difficult if you actually do the readings and take good notes. Go to her office hours after exams, she gives great tips for next time!
Great teacher, I had a 3 hour class with her and her class was really engaging and students really participated. No powerpoint or cellphones, laptops, or iPads just a lecture. Exams were challenging.
I am very interested in politics, but I couldn't stand this class. She'd go off on huge tangents about her personal life that had very little to do with the course material. I found myself only writing a few bullet points of new material every class. Her tests are not too bad, they don't take a lot of studying to do well.
She did not use power points so make sure you take notes in class. No laptops or cell phones permitted. Tests can be tricky but she drops the lowest grade so you don't need to take the final if you don't have to. Grade is based on 3 tests and 2 homework assignments that are too hard. As a person she is nice, sometimes goes off topic.
2 HAND writing assignments, 1 quiz, 3 exams (1 exam gets drop- lower score, no need to take 3rd). Exams weights the most grading with 40% each (2). Quiz and exams are based on knowledge, comprehension and application type of questions. You have to master the material. For such boring subject, she makes the class fun. Extra credit opportunities.
Not a college level instructor. Believes that assigning reading and lecturing class with elementary school methods such as repeating statements that are important. (Theyre really not, theyre useless) No powerpoint to go off of. Cannot use laptop in class either. Tests are not great. My higher course classes are 10x better than her. Guaranteed
Wow, Judy Stambaugh is truly one of the best professors and educators I have ever come across. She is diligent in making sure that her students pass the exams and the quiz. She makes you want to learn and feels like a genuine person. Stambaugh also offers great extra credit options for those who are truly on top of their work.
If you're a non-humanities major and taking POSC300 bc you passed the APGOV test, DON'T. Take POSC100 instead even if it doesn't count for units. The professor starts class late, goes on tangents often, & doesn't use powerpoints so you write lecture notes from what she says. Her tests are difficult and mostly test on articles posted on Titanium.
She was an okay professor. She does not do powerpoints so you take notes from listening(she makes lots of jokes). Tests get more difficult further into the semester. Tough grader! Does not round grades or do curves. 1 quiz, 3 or 4 tests & you can drop one exam. 2 or 3 hws. U HAVE TO READ TO DO DECENT (yes i said decent, at least an B-) ON EXAMS.
God what an awful class. She goes off on tangents when she lectures which makes it so hard to write the notes especially since there is no powerpoint and laptops are not allowed. She even makes it more difficult for students who do use laptops for DSS reasons. Avoid her for whatever reason!
This teacher doesn't care that a global crisis is going on, she pushes tricky questions on her exams. Be prepared to be confused because this teacher has no direction topics fly all over the place.
An amazing professor. Lecture based, so take good notes. Lecture is on the test, but if you closely follow you should do well. Therefore, attendance is sort of mandatory because lecture content is on the test. Gives book reading & will provide what parts to focus on before test. 2 assignments, go to office for help. 1 quiz, 3 tests, 1 test dropped
Everything was going good until the pandemic began. Since moving online, she had our regular lectures via zoom during the time slot. But then in April she sent out an email quoting "because students are having a difficult time adjusting to the new format, lecturing on new material is suspended." She gave up on teaching us.
Professor Stambaugh is an accessible professor outside of her class, but her teaching style is not for everyone. She repeats herself instead of using powerpoints. Also she doesn't allow laptops. Exams were based on mostly lecture, so make sure to show up to class and you should do fine. She just has a tendency to go off tangent a lot.
Professor Stambaugh is undoubtedly one of the best professors I have encountered in CSUF. Her class was very insightful and entertaining. I walked into class every day and genuinely looked forward to what she was going to lecture about. She truly cares about her student's success and goes out of her way to help students grow their brains. TAKE HER!
I had the pleasure of having Professor Stambaugh as a professor at csuf. She was delightful, and was very easy to talk to after class. Some people may see her as a harsh grader, but she just expects detailed work from her students. I had no trouble getting an A in the class as long as I showed up and read the chapters assigned. I would recommend.
Listen closely, do not take this class under any circumstance. I have taken stem classes that do not amount to the level of difficulty of her tests. I am not exaggerating, this is THE hardest GE I have taken and I have two semesters left. Sweet lady, truly love her personality, as far as teaching style - the worst I have encountered. Stay away.
Professor Stambaugh is very fair during her lectures and does her best to give you all the information. The class can be a lot but she does repeat and explain things whenever you need. This is not an easy A but as long as you pay attention &know what's going on in the world you'll do fine. Her grading and cheating precautions can be a little harsh
HARDEST GE class. She's nice but definitely has her own teaching style. Lectures are said verbally, she uses a doc so you can reference, but you must fill it out when she lectures. No slides. The exams & quizzes are hard. YOU MUST READ. Exams are about 60 q's-70 q's, timed. You are not allowed to go back to change answers. She writes her own test.
Tests are hard and doesnt use power points so you really have to listen and take good notes. Caring and willing to help if you need it. Not great with tech. Took her then halfway through switched online because of covid but she transitioned better than expected but you could tell it was rough. Cares about subject and wants you to learn
WORST GE EVER. She has their own way of teaching and grading. i thought her grading was gonna help me boost up instead it brought my grade down even more. Tests are hard cause its more application questions than knowing info, like 70 questions each test. No helpful study guides, if you dont listen to her instructions for assignments then get a 0.
Do not take this class. In every class I have taken since quarantine started, teachers have been understanding about their students' circumstances. Although this professor did not do that, if your wifi gets slower during an exam you will not pass. You have basically a minute per question and that is unreasonable since it has to load.
Probably one of the worst professor I had this semester. No Proctorio, but her test range from 40-80 questions (one minute per question or less) and you can not go back to check your questions. Her test is very confusing even if you have good notes and you read the textbook. Try to take another teacher if possible
Probably one of the worst teachers I had this semester. No Proctorio, but her tests are very confusing. You get 40-80 questions, one minute or less per question, and you can't go back to check your answers Even with good notes and I went to every single lecture, I still got a passing grade but not an A. Try to avoid her as a teacher.
just do NOT take her. this class is too much for being a lower division. just take someone else or another class
She had a lot to say during her lectures and it would get confusing at times. Her test seem easy but it's not, test make up a good portion of your grade. During COVID she did try her best to make sure that you can pass her class, the online books she makes you read for upcoming test are a lot and confusing at times/ not easy to understand at times.
By far best professor I have had at CSUF so far, many of the people complaining about the test, probably didnt attend the lectures. Her lectures are very basic, she repeats word for word what is going to be on the exam. She just a very clear about what we will be tested on, and is very good at explaining concepts, and answering questions. TAKE HER
An absolute gem, seems a little unapproachable but she really is the nicest professor if you go to her office hours. She encourages students to ask questions and repeats concepts that will be on exams 2 or 3 times to make sure you write it down on your notes. Very transparent of what will be on exams, no surprises but definitely have to study!!!
i thought this professor was going to be ok since of the reviews and i also hate politics or any history class, but when i took this class i hated it! i tried so hard to pay attention every class but it was so boring, and for a very low division it was not worth taking her. i dont recommend if you dont like politics or boring class lectures.
This is the best professor I've had so far. She was really accommodating with everything being online. She really wants the students to succeed and makes class worth going to. I highly recommend her!
She's a heavy lecturer, & provides you w/ a note outline. Passionate about the subject. Allows students to express their thoughts during lectures, which is always interesting. She takes a pause during the lecture to ask students if they understand the topic & if there are any questions. Drops your lowest exam score & hw assignments. Great teacher!
She really puts the students' needs first. She drops an exam and a HW assignment. You have to show up to class and take good notes. Her quizzes and exams are entirely based on lecture notes and textbook reading. If you pay attention, it's an easy A.
THIS WOMAN! no papers for this class and barely any hw. if you need a political science class, take her class! Trust me. I'm a public health major, i know nothing about politics but she made this class so fun! She had such funny stories and wouldn't just read off of slides, she got up in front of the class and TAUGHT! ignore the rating! shes good!
Take this class!
class is very lecture heavy but she makes it fun. there is barely any homework. tests and quizzes are a bit hard but if you take notes during lectures and read the textbook, you should be fine. make sure to read the textbook. there are also study sessions if you need help. take her class for a chill class!
An icon. I was not excited to take this class, because I usually am not interested in politics, but Professor Stambaugh actually made the lectures interesting, and I would even consider taking another gov class from her. She is not biased in any of her political opinions, super flexible, and overall super nice. Take her!
She is lecture heavy when it comes to exams as well and the reading. Exams and quizzes are challenging but there are study sessions little to no homework. She has office hours and you're able to review quizzes if you talk her. If you have sone knowledge about our gov't you should be okay. Class us based mostly on exams and quizzes.
LOVED THIS COURSE! Her tests are mostly based off her lectures, but she is an amazing lecturer. She gives outlines for the lecture, then you can fill them in with the content. I found this course SO interesting and truly loved going to class which made it easier to learn. Just attend her lectures, use her guides, and take notes. My fav class ever!
Great lecturer. They are very organized and informational. Not once did I fall asleep during class. She only assigned two worksheets and everything else was just reading. Quizzes and exams were equally based off of the readings, the assignments, and the lectures. She also gives out study guides before a quiz/exam.
This course was a hot mess. Professor Stambaugh did her best, but held expectations that she couldn't meet herself. If you are a Political Science major, I would recommend her to get to know a new professor and have a different experience. However, I would not recommend her to anyone who dislikes the subject.
Professor Stambaugh was a pretty good poly sci prof. 3 exams worth 80%, 2 quizzes, can drop lowest exam. Two papers but you only one required. Some paper readings. Exams and quizzes all lecture and reading based so take good notes. Content is general gov stuff and California history. Make a discord, type fast, make a study guide and you're good.
Professor Stambough was a great POSC prof. Her lectures are based on her speaking so make sure to get a laptop or computer and type out everything she says. Her exams are based on lecture, 3 exams worth 80%, MC, and you can drop the lowest one. 2 quizzes worth 4%, paper worth 12%. If you can follow along and take notes of her lecture, you are set.
Professor Stambaugh was amazing! Her lectures were organized and very interesting. There were only two assignments we had to turn in and we had a lot of time to do them. There were three exams but the lowest is dropped. Her exams are based off the textbook readings and lectures so make sure to read and pay attention. Definitely take this class.
Do not miss class. One of the hardest courses I took.
She is a great professor and loves to teach. LECTURE HEAVY but she makes it interesting by incorporating stories for you to understand better. 3 Exams, 3 quizzes - drops one exam. She provides a VERBAL study guide for textbook material. Her exams were harder in the second half of semester but it's manageable.
Stambaugh's class has some tough exams! All the homework is reading and studying. She is so amazing but not the class for you if you miss a lot of class. All notes are verbal, she does not use slides.
Stambaugh is a great professor However, her exams are really long, especially for an entry-level class which is nuts (80-95 questions). The course itself consists of 3 exams,3 quizzes, and 2 assignments. The content in the assignments and the quizzes appear on the exams. you have the ability to finish the course early as she drops 1 exam.
DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU'RE A VISUAL LEARNER!! Her lectures are all talk and no slides. She talks on and on expecting you to write everything down. Her classes are boring and she usually goes off topic with what she's teaching. Exam based and not many assignments so you better pray you pass those quizzes/exams with at least a C to pass the class.
Professor Stambaugh is a great professor. She had clear grading standards: 3 Exams, in which she drops your lowest score, worth 70%, 2 quizzes worth 10%, and 2 essays worth 20%. She is pretty strict on the grading, but is understanding that we have other classes. She provides the readings, which are on the exam so please read the readings at home.
Three tests are 80% of your grade, very difficult based on both lecture and reading. Attendance is not mandatory, but the information given in class is necessary for tests. While you can drop your lowest test score, I do not recommend Professor Stambaugh. This class is way too difficult for an 100 level course.
Professor Stambaugh is really great lecturer. Her classes are not mandatory but since there are no books for this class it is really hard to catch up on the materials if you miss class. Overall the assignments can be very rigorous. The plus side is as long as you take good notes the exams are a breeze.
One of the best professors. Very straight forward with what is going to be on the exams and expectations on assignments. If you want an A in this class you will need to purchase the textbook! However, if you don't want to buy the book you can still pass this class by paying attention in the lecture! Take this class, you will learn a lot!
Don't take this class unless you already have polici knowledge. Your grade is only based on two exams. there's only two assignments and there only worth 5% to your overall grade.
She was one of the only well rated POSC 300 professors, so I would take her again. Got a D+ because I got a failing grade on an assignment and there are no redos, but I don't blame her for it bc it's pretty fair. Easy to contact. Exams based on lectures and readings. 2 quizzes, 3 exams (only one is counted), 3 writing assignments (can only do 2).
This class was extremely difficult for a 100 class. If you want to pass this class you are going to have pay close attention in lectures, read the book, and study outside of class. Collaborate with other students to create study guides for the exam. Her exams are very difficult and have around 80 questions. This class kept me up at night.
Lecture heavy with a lot of talking. Few assignments that are worth little. 90% of your grade depends on the exam.
Such a kind soul for letting you drop an assignment and drop your lowest exam score. Three quizzes, three exams, and three assignments. You can drop one assignment and one exam, though. Her quizzes are not even quizzes; they are literally exams. Her exams are so long. Honestly, it felt like her exams required so much for you to pass.
Grade is 90% test. Some of the test questions aren't clear and confusing. She's lecture heavy but does an outline to easy follow. She's helpful outside of class.
Professor Stambaugh is a sweet. However, when it comes to lectures, there is no PowerPoint. U would have to keep up what she's explaining to you. You must be a good listener to know what she is lecturing about. There are only three writing assignments that would either drop your grade completely or somewhat save it. The exams are the hard part.
Definitely a yapper. She likes to talk about other things that isn't POSC related but so do I so I'm not gonna judge. Exams and quizzes are mostly lectures and reading. If you attend the lectures, you'll be fine
Over half the lecture time is just her ranting about politics. She thinly veils her preferred party but everything is taught through the context of her beliefs, so you're not learning about politics as much as you're learning about *her* politics. I've taken a lot of similar classes and no other professors come close to her shameless bias.
She made POSC fun in her lectures. She knew how to make the literature come alive for all different types of speakers. While her homework amount was very manageable just beware for her exams because it is a lot of info. But if you need help she is very attentive to helping you pass those exams and quizzes during office hours and so flexible!
One word. Awful. She does not care simply put. There's two assignments and three exams. She honestly makes the class very boring and difficult to actually go to. If you can sit for an hour and 15 minutes and listen to a boring lecture then go for it. She claims to not include her political stance while eluding to it while teaching
She gives you outlines to follow and is very lecture heavy. Missing one lectures will make you lose many points on exams. She gives two papers and they are basically worth anything. Her test are where 80% of the grade come from. Very boring class as she just talks on and on.
Avoid at all cost she just talks on and on , no homework most the time , grade is based on exams , very lecture heavy
As a preface from experience, those who complain about Stambaugh are ppl who don't show up to class and expect everything to be handed to them. Although she is very strict about assignments, said strictness leads to easily understandable assignments. If you do well on first 2 exams, you no longer need to attend class. Be present and you'll be fine.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this class at all cost. If you walk into class and see her start yappin, just know your cooked. No group activities, no videos, no slideshows, no questions, no nothing. All your gonna do is sit there for an hour 30 and listen to her yap. Good luck missing a day of class. No clue where she gets the quiz/exam questions.
Professor Stambaugh is one of those professors who are hit or miss depending on who you are. I, personally, think she was great. She only assigns three assignments and three exams throughout the whole class, and you're able to drop one each. She's super lenient on that aspect but is a very tough grader and doesn't allow late assignments.
Stambaugh's class is lecture-heavy, but using unstuck AI alongside the provided outlines can help simplify the material. Attend class, stay engaged, and you'll do well.
People that complain about this class expect an easy A with little effort. While this class can be intimidating with no powerpoint and textbook readings, it truly motivates you to retain information and learn. Stambaugh is a fair professor who actually lets you drop one assignment and exam. Be prepared to work for a good grade then feel rewarded.
If you are a visual learner, then this class is not for you. This professor gives only three assignments that are only graded by a small percentage. Meaning, it will NOT impact your grade AT ALL. Tests and quizzes are the only grades that matter which doing bad on those will cause your grade to worsen every time.
Great prof. rlly cares about students. 3 assignments, 3 quizzes, 3 exams (skip 1 assgnmt, drop 1 exam). Make sure to take notes and ensure that you understand everything from both the readings and lectures. Do not skip any classes or readings. Study with flashcards for quizzes and exams. Work hard! :)
Would I take this class again? absolutely not! Was I grateful that I took it? Yes! Prepare yourself to go to class + put in work. I'm the type of student who watches youtube in class (if i go) & searches all my answers up, but this class made me lock in. I studied my butt off and my grades showed for it. Really helped me develop good study habits!
Tougher class, definitely a step up compared to other 100 classes. Exams can be intensive and intimidating, but all content is definitely covered in lectures. Fairly boring class however, be ready if you want a good grade.
Professor Stambaugh is a good professor as long as you attend the lectures, there are three exams one of which you can skip, she takes the highest scores from two of the exams. There are also three writing assignments, which follow the same grading policy as the exams.Very lecture heavy class as most of the questions on the exams are lecture based.
Her class is lecture heavy, but she makes them interesting. She makes the lectures interesting and does her best to incorporate different methods of teaching. She offers lecture outlines and worksheets to help with assignments and exams. She does take a little while to grade. To do good show up to class.
Amazing professor, very good at her job and clearly cares for her students. Doesn't use any textbook and lectures with no power point slides so take GOOD notes. Tests are very difficult but she prepares you well- however no study guide other than a list of topics the day before the test. Great class but be ready to work.
She is a great teacher but teaches a very hard class. There is only about 7 major assignments all year that you can get credit for. She is very lenient and allows a dropping of an exam, but grades essays very toughly and the tests are only multiple choice.
Extremely lecture-heavy with no PowerPoint slides or slides to copy from, make sure to take good notes. Grades are based on three exams, with the lowest being dropped: a very harsh essay grader and a very snarky tone on comments left on your writing. I would not take her again, however her exams are relatively easy if you attend class regularly.
Professor Stambaugh is very lecture-heavy; however, as long as you pay attention and take notes, you'll do great. She is pretty lenient in grading as long as you follow through with a very straightforward rubric. The exams are harsh, but the readings correlated to the exams are always provided. Overall, I had a great experience with this class.
She was super engaging and I felt like all of her exams and assignments were very straightforward. She provides tons of examples and really tries to get students to connect with the material. All you have to do is show up and take good notes. I'll definitely take her again if i end up switching to a polisci major
Professor Stambaugh is a nice person but this class seemed harder than it needed to be. She doesn't use powerpoint and you really do have to take notes every day to know what is going to be on the tests. Very tough on paper format and content, but not always clear in her instructions and her feedback is not very helpful.
3 exams, 2 quizzes and 1 written assignment. attendance irrelevant but exams based on lectures that ARE NOT POSTED + no actual study guides. talks whole class and you have to try and write everything down bc unsure of what's on exams. she's funny but hard. left in the dark most of the time. would not take again.
Class is only graded on 3 exams (lowest gets dropped), 2 quizzes, and 1 writing assignment. She only talks (no slides) so if you miss class often, you aren't passing! This class shouldn't be as difficult as she makes it, i'd recommend choosing another professor.
Prof. Stambaugh gave clear, narrative-like, lectures that made it easier to recall info. The curriculum was based on current events that were relevant and interesting. She does not use slides, but posts an outline of her lectures which makes taking notes a lot easier. Lowest exam score is dropped, only a few writing assignments, lots of reading.
There is no extra credit. There are not slides you can study. You have to take good notes and read in order to keep up. I would not take again. She only gives 3 exams drops one, 2 quizzes and 1 assignment. Yes she very knowledgable and cares . but for a 100 class it is a lot of work on top of classes that are harder.
Though attendence not mandatory, all things on exams and quizzes only given in person. No slide shows for notes, no study guides, all in lecture that she reads off paper. Only thing graded for class is your exams and quizzes. And no extra credit at all.
Overall she was okay. She makes up her own exams which can be tricky. You do need a textbook, I recommend downloading it from Anna's Archive. She is super lecture heavy and does make it interesting but you have to really, I mean really, read the long textbook chapters to understand what she's talking about.
