Very organized for an online Biology class. I took this class in a classroom (with another teacher) and had to drop for personal reasons but then took her over the summer online and she is great. Alot of stuff in her class but her test come right off her chapter outline..so if you do her chapter outline and study questions-you will be OK
I really like Prof. Stewart. She is very willing to help when needed, with phone interviews, office appoitments, or even coming to our study groups.
Judy is a great professor. Took this class online during the summer. It was alot of work but it was a great class. You have to be sure to read the book, or it will be difficult. She does supply alot of study guides and such which help. Lab also gets alot of points!
I had a hard time in this class because to me the lectures weren't clear, the teacher wouldn't help when I needed it, and the test were a joke. This is the worst professor I've come across at CCSN.
Pro. Judy is very sweet person:) She will encourage her students to learn before jumping to another path. Her test/quiz tells u whats in it and review her previews discussion she moves on to another topic. I highly recommended her for any science class.
Ok, so the other ratings on her were for the easier bio classes- for BIO 189 however, beware! In lecture, you will find it easy to follow along and understand what she is teaching... come test time, it is a whole different ball game! Out of 80 students, only 10 with a C or better. This is what she told us is the norm for her classes..yikes!
I took her for lab 189 and she was a good teacher. The way she explained and taught the material helped me alot on my lecture class. She always took the time to help students with their questions. So I recommend you take her for your lab.
Sweet lady but her class is very hard, you think that what you hear from the lecture will be on the test, but that is not so, you need to study EVERYTHING on every chapter if you ever hope for above a C
This Prof. made the class harder than it should have been. Although I passed the class, I would never take her again.
She made this class so much harder than it ever should have been. She provides study guides for tests, and none of the material in there is on the test. If you want more than a C, you will have to read every chapter word for word! Her homework only touches on what is in the book, you will have to look elsewhere for answers. Take someone else!!
I took this class online during the summer. I would recommed this class if you want to take it online. Do your reading and the quetions at the end of the chapters, take the practice quizzes and do the 15 homework questions each week and you will find that the questions n the exams are very familiar. Labs are easy and interesting, read first. No more difficult tahn I would expect a biology class to be.
I love this instructor, i took her class before taking any other instructors at ccsn and she turned out to be a great one, i see other students are saying shes hard, but thats not the truth, IF YOU STUDY. and put somtime into it ull get wat u want at the end, this is not HIGH SCHOOL its COLLEGE!!!!!!so u better be planning to study before registeri
She is very sweet, but makes the info VERY DIFFICULT. SHE WANTS DETAILS...too many details. She puts TRICKY questions on her quizzes and words them in ways that take hours to answer. Be warned. Don't go there. She is good, but over the top. Nice lady overall.
Great teacher! I really enjoyed her class. Tests are challenging, understanding the material is the key. If you want to really learn Bio this class is it. This has been the only professor to challenge me, I loved it.
This instructor does very well at making her notes clear and understandable. She hardly uses the book, although reading it is helpful. On her tests she sticks with her notes, though her tests are challenging. Studying is the key to this class no matter what professor, but she helps make it easy to understand.
This professor made me rethink my college career. I was really interested in the class before I took her, and I've decided to stay as far away from Biology as possible. The exams have nothing to do with the reading, homework or labs. If you want to maintain a good GPA, find another professor.
Unfortunately, her sweetness does not transfer to her teaching. In my experience, she was always late grading the labs, homework, and tests. I love Biology, but with her I felt like I was trying to decode her questions since she claims they come from the book. There are instructors who know how to teach online, she is not one of them.
always read the book and be attentive to the questions during the tests. what is nice about her exam is that they are very specific. so.. just ba extra careful
JUST STUDY AND STOP COMPLAINING!What helped me in her class the most were reading the book and taking notes. The practice questions in WebCT helped a lot too.She doesn't give out extra credit, which sucks, but just do good in lab..it'll help pull your grades up big time. She's not a hard teacher, only her exam questions are a bit tricky.
She is a great teacher, but overall THE most difficult one, ever. I know that some of these posts say"IF YOU STUDY, YOU WILL DO WELL." Listen, that's NOT the case. Trust me, I studied more than most. She is smart, but EXTREMELY tricky on tests. If you are an over-the-top student and excellent at detailed BIO, then, by all means, go for it!!
She is a hard teacher, but very nice and open to different opinions. She is one of the nicest person that I met in a long time, really goes out of her way to help you. Her tests are very trick and sometimes too many questions for the amount of time. You really got work hard on her class. Read ahead and good luck!
If you are reading this then just get out and don't bother taking her class. its not worth all the trouble. she is tricky.
She is the best Biology teacher that I have had so far. She goes out of her way to help students in any way. If you take notes, come to class, and study you will be fine. She makes you think and most students think this is trickery, but it is not. She is the best professor for Biology that CCSN has and I wish that she taught more classes.
Prof. Stewart has high expectations of her students but is very willing to answer questions and help you. She is extremely smart and knows her stuff. Do not take during the summer unless you have the time to devote to studying and doing homework. It's more than simply studying and memorizing to do well - it's understanding what you're learning.
Excellent instructor! Knows exactly what she's talking about, and loves to do so. I would take her class if you need the knowledge of its class for your major, she gives you the basics that you'll ever need to succeed in biology related fields. Not for students that just need a quick science class. Thanks to her,I got A's in all following bio classes
Very organized, knowledgable, dedicated instructor. If you have a Biology related major you HAVE to take her class!!! Absolutly brilliant professor.Do not take this class if you just need to pass a science class!! This professor will show you how interesting Biology is. If you do not like this class you should change major.
Pro. Stewart was SO helpful. I took the online 8 week course and had a lot of cry babies in my class. The class can be hard because of SO much information, but she posts a ton of study guides, returns emails promptly and explains answers to your questions very well. She really was involved and deserves a very good review!
The class was challanging, but the theacher is great at explaining things. You do have to read the book!
she is cool, she tends to over explain and some timse confuse but she means well. she will be a gret teacher if u have her for 189 or 95
Prof. Stewart was great! I had her for my 189 lab, and as long as you participated in the lab and reviewed your notes, and the material the quizzes were pretty straightforward. The class itself can be hard, so study hard and you should succeed!
Took the online class and lab. Dont take her unless you really have to or if youre really good at biology. She is not lenient at all, does not offer explanations only tells you where you can find the answer. Pretty useless as a teacher 4 an online class! 2 weekly quizzes and 3 on campus exams-all really hard that you have 2 really study 4!
I took this class online. Don?t take unless u understand biology well. She is extremely hard; quizzes are every week and 3 exams. The exams are extremely hard; you have to basically memorize everything. She doesn?t allow you to see what you missed on quizzes so it?s hard to prepare for exam. Her due dates are all over, very unorganized.
I was very disappointed with this online Biology class. Exams and quizzes have confusing questions & are extremely tough. Pay careful attention to all posts as dates change repeatedly. 2 quizzes per week & 4 exams on campus. She will not show completed exams, though does offer to do phone conferences to review the exam.
never returned my email, or letter regarding my grade dispute.
Do not take this class online with her. She requires way too much work in one week. She is not clear in her instructions. Her time limits on tests are too short. I felt like she was setting us up to fail.
The posts prior to mine just pretty much sums her up. I really should have gone with someone else. Do not take her course, her class structure only sets you up to fail.
Science isn't my strong suit by any means, but this online class wasn't that bad at all. Just make sure you read and study all the material provided by the professor and your text. Quite a bit of time should be devoted to studying, but you'll learn a bunch. Very knowledgeable professor that loves her subject.
This is a college science class and should not be taken by kids wanting an easy A. This teacher knows her stuff, is very willing to help students. Expects students to learn, not memorize. Test questions can be confusing because they require application of things learned, but if you can justify your wrong answers, she will credit you. I learned alot
I took biology 100 over the summer online. It's a heavy load and fast paced. Prof Stewart is organized and fair. If you're lost set up a phone conference. She explains well and I bet her lectures are amazing. You must know the vocabulary, outline and study questions to do well. Memorization does not help. Study extra for the final. Its HARD!!!
I'm taking 095 online, it's hard for me to understand. exams have to be taken on campus which is a pain, but it means I have to study hard and know material to get a good grade as there are no notes allowed in the exam room. good incentive to study. I'm barely passing, if at all, but even learning something is a step in the right direction for 189.
WORST online teacher EVER! She is unorganized & unfair. Posts work on Monday if she gets around to it & is due on Friday. No flexibility. All tests are auto-graded, labs are not graded for weeks, no lecture or discussion or guidance. Call for clarification & see what happens. Its non-science major class but makes it confusing.AVOID THIS ONE!!!
Useless & NO INSTRUCTION! Worst online teacher! No lectures OR discussions. Textbook is ONLY resource. Makes you go to campus to do tests for online class. Labs are for a research methods class-not a 101 level. Makes you do standard deviation for a 100 level NON-SCIENCE MAJOR course. SLOW Grader. Can't tell what your grade is & she doesn't help!
This is a NON MAJOR's class but you would never know with the amount of technical details you have to learn in order to even pass the class. NON MAJOR meaning, give me the basics, I could care less about every detail on the subject. Exams are given on campus even though it's an ONLINE course. Avoid this professor!!!!!!
Took this class online. Would have got an A but there were 2 chapters on DNA & I don't understand DNA. Took lab online with the class, incredibly easy. All quizzes are online and the exams are at the testing center on campus. If you take all 3 exams and like your grade you don't have to take the final!
I am currently taking Biology 95 online. Prof. Stewart is extremely helpful. She offers study groups, go & you'll ace quizzes.Anyone who gave her negative feedback never took the time to show up.You have to study and there is alot of info but what do you expect...it's Biology. If you're willing to work 4 an A you'll get one- I am.
Online/Summer- I appreciated the fact that prof. Stewert genuinely cares. She will meet one on one, offers study sessions and goes way beyond what other online profs. will do to make sure you understand. I love Biology now! I got an A... I had to work at it and go to study group but I don't have a problem putting in work as long as I get the grade!
Will never take any of her classes again. Horrible teacher and experience.
I managed a C This bio class was hard on line. I would avoid at all cost. Take all Bio classes in person. Leary seems awesome. Stewart is nice however speaks in riddles and is hard to understand therefore the material is harder to understand. My biggest grip materials not posted in timely manner. Some never at all.
My all time favorite teacher! Very helpful very knowledgable. Just wish she taught more classes!
Took online. Very difficult, with ALOT of studying, and she plugs non-biology related liberal causes. Highly discourage.
Judy was my lab prof for Bio 189. She went out of her way to answer questions and explained things in an understandable way. I'm not sure why she has all the other bad reviews; I can only guess it's because a bio class online isn't easy. Judy cares and is competent in the course material. What more can you ask of a professor?
Stewart and this class were awful. This class is NOT for non Bio majors as it claims! Stewart was unhelpful, her notes incomplete, study guides were almost useless for exams and quizzes. If you have another choice for BIO teacher please take it!
I think she is a nice lady and tries to do her best. But she has a hard time answering questions and always seems to have something else going on. We even had a substitute teacher one of the days, and he was much better. She was ok.
Love her! She is so helpful. She made me believe in myself.
Have found incorrect questions on quizzes, she makes you proctor exams if you take her online class, the study guides for exams are useless and she claims to have objective tests by her syllabus, yet puts subjective questions on the test. 4.0 student and getting horrible grades on test because of the bad study guides.
I just withdrew from this class. Exams have to be proctored, the study guides are useless, I failed an exam and withdrew because this class may affect my 4.0 GPA. The exams were so hard and you will never know what you get wrong on your quizzes so you will never know what to study more on!
Online course and EXTREMELY difficult. Average class grade in the 40's, managed to pull off a B but was very difficult. Exams are proctored and the hardest part of all. Her labs contain incorrect information which I had to point out to her. Doesn't communicate with class, just assigns work and then silent. Would not recommend
It was a very hard class and on the quizzes/tests, information studied for was not on test. Questions on test were not on her study guide.
Summer class online 2012. Be prepared to work for your grade. Even for a C. I think she was straight forward and perfectly clear on everything. Read the syllabus over and over. Read her guidelines. Quizzes due by 11:30 p.m. every Sat. Lab due every Wed. by 11:30. Test in person every 2 weeks. Take the time with this class.
Study the study guides and the results from your quiz. Read the chapter but focus on the study guides as you read. For a summer class put in at least 6-8hours a week if you want a passing grade. Labs are easy and online, the test are in person and hard if you don't study the quiz results and study guide. She tels you what you need to know.
I highly recommend Judith, she was very helpful. You can tell she wants you to succeed. All of her outlines are on the test. The test are easy in the beginning and she slowly eases you into more challenging test to help you succeed in future biology classes. you can take exams and quizzes multiple times. Just study outlines and you will do great.
This class is very time consuming. There is a lot of reading, and the Labs are hard. This class was overwhelming for me. There are 11 quizzes, 6 labs,3 exams,1 final, and 4 DB post. Three lowest quizzes, one lowest exam, and one lowest lab, she will drop.If you are happy with your three exam grades you do not have to take the final exam.
I took BIOLOGY101 online; She is definitely a very good teacher from what she taught us. Best teacher ever. The course is time consuming , please take it seriously. You will succeed if you do all your homework. Labs are interesting and unusual. Professor is always available via email. If you try you will pass, she has a great passion for teaching
Avoid this professor/class if you can. For a 101 course there is too much detail. It took me 2-4hrs a day to get through the assigned lesson. The labs have nothing to do with the paired lesson and are very hard. Exams are proctored on campus. I'm an A student struggling for a passing grade in this course.
Not an easy class by any means. The exams all had to be taken on campus. The tests are weighed very heavily. Even if you do well on all of the labs, assignments and quizzes, the tests bring you down if you are not the best at memorizing information. I would not recommend this teacher!
Not an easy class. If you are not a good tester, avoid the class. She is not always available, and responds late to emails.
Judy Stewart is an excellent professor. She communicates with the class, responds to emails promptly, and seems to be very dedicated to teaching. This was my last course before graduating, but I would take more classes w/ Professor Stewart if I could. I also disagree with the comments saying this was a difficult class (it's an intro level course!)
Her online class was brutal, not like your typical advanced high school biology class. This involved chemistry, requires knowledge and memorization of extremely trivial specifics, and the layout of the online class was confusing. I have a C+ in her class and yet somehow all my test scores are shown to be in the upper percentile.
This class is extremely hard. Took it online and wow. 3 hours per assignment is reccomended because every exam (on 3chapters) is proctered However, this teacher is extremely attentive and cares about her students. For someone who isn't extremely savvy in biology, I learned ALOT, and felt like I mattered even though we only connected through screens
Wow!! I just began taking this class and even a professor told me I should have read up on her before. Really hard Class!! You don't expect anything in life to be handed to you but when you have 4 other classes, the format of this class does not fit well. The assignments are for a extremely overwhelming.
Professor Stewart was my favorite professor this semester. 7 labs, 4 exams, optional final, 12 homework assignments. I would always email her my lab assignment before turning it in and she would look over the entire thing and email me back with anything that was incorrect, I would fix it, and get full credit. She's honestly very nice.
There are 4 proctored tests, and that's really the hardest thing about the class. She responds very quickly, and most of the assignments are through McGraw-Hill. I took the online class, with the lab, and it was good.
took online cons: tests are taken on campus, don't fall behind hard to catch up pros: only 4 tests and optional final, she really cares about her students and she does pay attention to how you are doing. this is a straight forward course take notes and read lots it is time consuming so don't wait until last minute you will fail.
I would take her every year if I could. Very fair. Takes away three of your lowest scores on tests. You have to pay 85 for SmartBook. My SmartBook glitched out the last day of the chapter test at 9:00 pm and she reset it for me the next day. Study though. The midterm isnt worded like chapter tests. I recommend her to anyone!
took Bio 101 online everything is explained in syllabus She really cares about her students and wants you to pass She is always there to help out as long as you're actually trying. Must take 4 tests and optional final on campus that's the hard part the labs aren't bad quizzes you are open book stay on top of it an you will be fine great professor
This class is doable if you don't slack off too badly. However, if you don't read your textbook, you're not going to pass at all. And when I say read the textbook, I mean really really read it. Not only that, but to also pay very close attention to the flash cards it provides. The exams go very much in detail on what you've learned.
Professor Stewart was incredible, she was so caring and willing to help her students succeed in the class. I was dreading biology, but this professor made it bearable. You have to put in the work/hours since it's biology and definitely difficult, but even the six labs we had to do were not impossible in this class. Take this professor!
Pretty relaxed course since you can read ahead and take your tests early. Four tests and an optional final which can help raise your grade. Tests can be difficult so make sure to take your time when reading. First two exams seemed hard but the last two were a lot easier in my opinion. Don't wait till the last minute and you'll do fine.
She's a very caring professor who actually cares about her students. The class does have a lot of homework that takes a lot of time to complete, but reading the textbook definitely helps. There are four exams that must be taken on campus that are kind of difficult, so make sure to study. 8/10 would recommend.
Love her. I used the covid-19 to my advantage with the due dates pushed back but this class you can probably complete everything in the "Grades" section within 2 months. Stay on top of the due dates and submit early because some modules do take time. The online book takes A LOT of time but may help with understanding. Did not take Exam 3, Grade 81%
I specifically made a profile for this website so that I could leave Ms. Stewart the review she deserved. Ms. Stewart was not only a caring and attentive professor, but during the unusual circumstances of COVID-19, she made sure to reach out to her students and provide accommodations given the crisis. Be ready to work, but it will be worth it.
This class was great. The homework was very easy and if you do not do the readings needed for the homework you will not pass the exams.
The class was overall straightforward; do your assignments, labs, quizzes, exams and you should pass. Just make sure to STUDY.
Dr Stewart is really nice and helpful. Very accommodating, more so than any college prof I've had. Be ready to complete a ton of homework for the online course, and exams are proctored. This is the first online course that requires proctored exam completion. Be prepared to a ton study as well.
There were 4 exams and there were about 3 chapters in each one. Each chapter had two homework assignments that took about an hour to complete. So give yourself PLENTY of time. She drops the 3 lowest homework grades. She also has 6 labs, but they were easy. The tests are pretty hard, so you NEED to study. If you do the work, you pass.
On our first exam I received a 24/45 (53.33%). When I emailed this Dr. Stewart to see if there could be a retake, different study methods, or really anything we had a phone call where she said that I knew a lot of information and basically said she makes the tests hard on purpose.
People said you need to read every chapter to pass but I passed by just doing the homework, labs, and watching the videos she gave us. It's science so it is challenging, but it could have been way worse. Prof. Stewart is super sweet and will answer all your questions. I would take her again! Some of the labs were even a little fun!
Dr. Stewart is very kind and always answers questions through email. She even called me to help me with my test anxiety. The homework and labs were easy. However, the tests were difficult because they were recorded. The tests only increased my anxiety. I absolutely dreaded the exams on lockdown browser with webcam. Overall, she is great.
This was my first biology class and Dr. Stewart made is easy to comprehend the material and if you had any questions she was always willing to help you. Would take her class again!
Honestly, she was the worst professor I've had at CSN. Her tests were confusing and much more challenging than the homework or her study guides. She was difficult to work with when I needed help. Her class is more difficult than a 100 Level class should be. This was my last class for my AA and the only B (all A's). I regret taking her class.
Whoever takes Dr. Stewart, she is always willing to help you! The workload is a lot, and it's bulked up and due each month, there will be labs in there too. I personally had a good experience with her. Do a module every week or you'll fall behind. Exams are recorded! Tests never stray from the material in the unit. Good Luck!
The class was not hard but it was a lot of time consuming to do all the homework, Quiz and Exams. If you work a lot or have kids I do not recommend this class like I said it is very time consuming but if you know how to manage your time than go ahead and take it. on the exams you are being recorded so you need to study hard.
There is lots of work, but all beneficial and neccesary. She provides tons of resources to help you pass the class, you just need to use them and make sure to study!! If you have questions left unanswered, schedule meetings with her! She is so helpful and kind, and genuinely wants all her students to pass. One of the best professors I've had.
The subject itself was a little difficult for me in some parts but she offered many resources and lectures aside from the "book & lab" online work. Her study guides are perfectly created so you gather the info you need to pass the tests. I chose to double major in a biology field after taking this class. Great class! Love Prof. Stewart
We did weekly open book quizzes and labs with lab quizzes. We had four proctored exams and two extra credit opportunities. I was terrified to take this class, but it was extremely easy (as long as you read the book and study for the exams). The labs were cute and the professor seems super nice and caring about her students. Take this professor!!
If you have the option to choose a different professor do it! This class is just too much work. There are many steps to each assignment and every portion is time consuming. The exams are proctored so you have to go through a whole process just to take the exam.I personally wouldnt take this specific class with this professor again, the professor is ok
This class is very straight forward, you have a week to finish the quizzes and labs and you must read the book in order to do good on the tests. She uses proctorU for tests so you cannot cheat and must know the material. Other then that she doesn't make any lectures or any other assignments.
She is a great professor and very approachable. Loves her students and wants to help everyone succeed.
The study guides did not coincide with anything on the tests, barely any video lectures or guidance at all. This is very much a self-taught course in my opinion with very little input or help from the professor. The proctored exams were awful.
Please do not take this professor.I almost did not graduate because of her. she's not a good teacher, and there are no lectures. The book she provided was not helpful. There are 4 exams online, and you have someone watching you, and she will not teach you if you need help. Please take someone else
Professor Stewart's BIO101 class can be challenging, but she provides great resources. The textbook and proctored exams are tough, but the weekly quizzes and labs help you stay on track. unstuck study was a lifesaver for exam prep.
I'm going to fail because of her!! 4 exams, proctored, NONE of which follow her assignments. I asked for accommodation because I panic and blank out, but she refuses any form of accommodation. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Do not listen to all the positive reviews of this class. No doubt, Dr. Judith is not caring about her students all. She's paid to care so that's why she acts like she cares. She reads this type of "script" with no emotion that's she been unfair and harsh to all her students who took her class. Students mention exams because THEY ARE HARD.
DO NOT TAKETHIS CLASS!!!!!!! The LABS ARE impossible the quizzes are eh but the labs will compltley ruinyour life it is not worth it atall do not take her class
