she knows her stuff, might seem annoying at times, but she's a great prof
very annoying.....not hard though
excellent

Professor Galbus is a fine teacher who knows her field. She also is able to keep students awake in a more then one way.
I love this class...
she is a very nice professor and all, but a lot of her "brainstorming" doesn't end up helping my papers at all. i also think that she doesn't give grades that the papers deserved!
We do a lot of things in class that would be just as easy to do at home.
She is very self obsorbed, got tired of hearing about her. she does has some interesting things to say.
do NOT take her! She is mean spirited and liked to talk a lot about herself. She is very unhelpful when it comes to assignments and her garding is harsh! Avoid at all costs!
Taking her upper level classes are not like her freshmen classes: much better. She likes students who talk a bunch. She is young enough to relate to students as a friend (but expects work from her pupils).

Insecurities and self doubt seep from this woman's pores. How else can you justify talking about yourself; pulling out dissertations, and trying to prove to the whole world how smart you are. Get a life, please.
She has her quirks, but once you get past them, she is an excellent prof. She demands that you work, contribute, and learn. WHICH IS WHAT COLLEGE IS ABOUT. Her own beliefs can get in the way at times, though.
She is a very self-obsorbed woman. All she does is brag about herself and her accomplishments. BIG DEAL! She doesn't help students when asked and makes them feel stupid. Please don't make the same mistake I did.
She puts down students who have potential and refuses to give them grades they desrve. I took her last year and she gave me the same grade as a girl who writes like she is in middle school. My current eng prof could not believe how my papers were graded and noticed she feels threatened by students
DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN for ANY CLASS!!! You have been warned. She is so self-obsorbed. She is all about I! Grades are partial as stated by previous users. Avoid her unless you wanna take a GPA hit and emotional abuse! She is the biggest waste of money at USI!
Don't listen to those people who tell you not to take Dr. Galbus. If all you want is an easy A, then steer clear of her. If you want to learn, few professors will give you a broader, more complete interpretation of the literature. I highly recommend her.
She is not an easy professor, and I assure you that is where the negative comments are coming from. She cares about her students and will bend over backwards to help you if you need it. If you won't put up though, she definitely wants you to shut up. GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!
She is a teacher willing to help students whether it is about english or a job application, but don't expect her to be nice. She takes up the whole class time to teach you about her personal life rather than your class you payed money to take. It's your choice, but I would not take her again!
can you say its all about me me me. that is what she bases everything on. its about how many people she knows on the news or how many poetry writers she knows. all class is about her. she grades off of previous students which is very unfair.
Very good professor. You will learn so much if you work hard in this class. The personal input she gives makes our night class seem short. If you aren't willing to work you won't like her.
It's not that Galbus is a bad prof, she just seems very self-centered. She requires you to attend 3 community lectures...which is 15-20% of your grade. She hardly ever gives an A on papers. So if you want an easy class, don't take her. If you want to work and improve your writing, then take her
Self-absorbed man hater. Looks like Noah Wyle in a flower dress.
Holy overload, Batman! She's spoken about how much her previous classes work in comparison to ours, and our test scores prove it...it's a damn hard class, but you're gaurenteed to learn something interesting every time you attend her class. LOTS OF WORK, but she wears some pretty groovy threads!
Do not just not take for humanities don't take her for any courses. I agree she does look like Noah Wylie. All she does is brag about her accomplishments. I give her the most conceited award at USI along with Steve Cox in ECON. If you have had Cox you now how she is.
Money Wasted = Julia Galbus Any Questions?
Pretty snobby and needs to learn the definition of "tact."
I took two classes with Galbus and yes, she does talk about herself alot but she is an interesting person and you will leave her class a much better writer. If you want a blow off class do not take her for anything but if you are serious especially about your writing go for it.

she comes to class every day talking about her work-out routines or her "friends". she talks about her dissertation a lot also. not very helpful as far as assignments. says at the beginning of the course that you can trust her, but then she betrays that trust.
She likes to bad-mouth students in front of other students in the classroom. She is definitely something that rhymes with witch, and I'll assure you I'm not talking about a ditch here.

Not a good class or teacher. I believe she is very smart and knows what she is talking about, but she just can't teach very well. There is A LOT of work in her class. I wouldn't recommend taking anything with her.
I think Galbus is very nice and very interesting. At first she was different but once I got to know her she is really awesome!! I would recommend taking her class you learn a lot.
The marijuana and brownies before class must stop. That ass has gotten so big, I don't even know who you are, anymore. People, she's self-absorbed because she is insecure about herself. When people act like Galby, their really wanting to be recongnized; appreciated for their contributions to humanity. So ligthen up on Miss Brownie Butt.
Totally snob. Did not know what she was talking about and was way too much into herself. Accused me of cheating before midterm and decided to tell me after the final. Said she knew she was going to fail me after the incident. Here's the thing...She couldnt prove I was cheating, so she can just suck my....
Someone once said she looks like Noah Wylie. Very secure about herself and flaunts it wayyyyy toooo much!
All she can think about is how smart she is. "Look at me I have 9 degrees, and do spinning classes, and I can kick azz, I am SOOO smart!" basically all she says every day.
Challenging, but worth it. People complain USI has a high school reputation, but whine when a prof makes them work. Don't take her if you can't write at a college level and have no interest in learning or improving.
I simply could NOT get an A in this womans class. Though she tried to be helpful, I never felt that her ultimate goal was to teach, it was to talk about her life experiences. Which would be great if cared ? Well if you want a B or lower, take Dr. Galbus.
I thought this class was very challenging. Dr. Galbus makes you use your head and you get to write about what you want as long as it fits the criteria of the assignment. She will help you if you ask her to. Everyone gripes about classes being to hard but when they are to easy they gripe they dont learn anything. I recommend her if you want to learn
Challenging, but a good class. I learned a lot. Thought-provoking
Awesome teacher, and great to just talk to after class.
I write so much better and with more confidence since taking Dr. J's class. Hard work is a must, but nothing is unattainable. She works with students who want to work. She does talk about herself a lot, but the stories are interesting.
One of the BEST professors in the English Dept at USI. I actually was challenged to do better than what I thought was my best. She has high expectations, but it is to make students learn...what a concept. She is one of the nicest, most interesting people I know. Dr J's rocks!
DOCTOR Galbus is a great teacher. She really is. She gives you ideas if you are stuck, she emails you back immediately, she cares. She's just really a great teacher. She likes the sound of her own voice sometimes...but she's really great. I would recommend her for sure.
One of the most interesting, well read, thoughtful and insightful professors I've ever had. She makes you work, but she's fair and generous with her time and advice.
She's all right. She's really understanding and everything, but sometimes I get lost in that class (regarding the syllabus) and the test I took in that class sucked.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The final exam is 40% of your grade. You read around 2000 pages over the course of the semester. You write 500 words every single week. She intentionally makes the final difficult. She talks constantly about how amazing she is. This woman really likes herself.Unless you like worshipping someone, STAY AWAY. Worst class so far
Communication Majors: I wish I would have listened to the ratings on this site. She truly is awful. SELF-ABSORBED. If you're the masochistic type that enjoys 3 hours of hell every week, take this class.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Do not take this class, especially if you are a Mass Comm Major. She treats you like a 2nd class citizen, does not hand back work for grades, is not available outside of class, makes you read to the class personal writings unpromopted. Completely useless, I hope she gets fired soon!
Dr. Galbus is an absolutely wonderful professor who gets a bad rap for pushing her students to do better work than "passing." If she talks about herself and the things that she says are all impressive... one would think there's the possibility that she's an impressive person with a lot of experience to share.
She is a very well rounded and challenging professor. It is hard to find good English professors at USI but she is truly one of the best. She opens your eyes to a whole new world of literature. Would definately reccomend her!
I'm surprised Dr. Galbus gets such a bad wrap from her other classes...I can't speak for them, but I can say that her Capstone Autobiography course is really interesting. Easy? No. But since when was any worthwhile class easy?
The most interesting English class I've ever had. Grades hard, she's one of those professors that doesn't give you an A an A- is the best you can get. If you want a higher gpa take someone else I got a B in the class.
I took her for Eng 265 & she is a hard professor. She expects you to do the work & read the assignments. Overall, she made the class very interesting and prior to it I did not like American lit. Her tests are hard but you only have a midterm and final. It really helps if you participate in class. I really enjoyed her & took more classes w her
Demanding? Yes. Helpful? Unbelievably yes. She pushes u to do better than u think u can. She is very understanding and class is always interesting. Yes, she does reference her experiences but it's not all about her in class. Sometimes my head wanted to explode afterwards from all the new ideas and thoughts, but thats what college is supposed to do.
Class is always interesting-no exceptions. U don't get many assignments besides the readings, 2 small papers, & 2 tests. She's an incredible prof, willing to do anything for her students if they show interest. She pushes u to be more than u thought u could be but alwyas in ur best interests. I would def take her again :)
"DR" Galbus...well, I have to say she was my least favorite teacher. She was always busy buzzing around talking about herself. I can honestly say I heard her say more than once that she didn't understand why we "southerners" didn't talk about ourselves and our accomplishments more, and that bragging was okay...
This woman had some interesting stories, but none i needed to hear on my time of learning. i paid for this class and i expected to learn. i literally didnt read the books and didnt really participate in class and wrote my essays and still managed a B. I believe that this woman doesn't need to be teaching freshman.
This lady seriously went off whether she liked your topic or not and graded you differently every time. she never stayed constant and was always talking about other students and her previous years. Us 2010 freshman were treated as if we were juniors. i strongly believe she shouldn't be able to teach freshman.
She knew her material, but she was all about herself. She does not grade fairly. She will base it off of her prior classes. She is rude and will call you out in class in a heartbeat. And dont dare not call her Dr. or she will flip. I could honestly care less if you had 7 degrees or not. Really rude, and I dont think I would take her again :(
she loves to tell stories that relate to her lesson is you will never be bored and she will help you until you get it
Dr. Galbus is smart, interesting, and full of stories. It's hard to walk out of her class without a few new perspectives. She does expect excellent writing, which might be difficult for a non-major, but if you are serious about English you need this! And if her outfit looks like it might be from another country, it is. Ask about it!
Immediately disregard any comments left by non-english majors or 101 students. Dr. Galbus in her true English courses is an exceptional professor. She is a pretty strict grader, but only because she expects quality work. If you're an English major take her class and you will improve your writing.
DR Galbus, make sure to call her DR. She talks about herself, alot, sometimes it relates to the readings. Two tests, and about 3 one page papers, so you can't afford to get low grades on anything. overall shes a tough grader, but knows her stuff.
Do ALL the assignments and do them well, because there aren't very many. The homework is on the syllabus, she won't announce it in class. She's difficult, but knows her stuff. If you don't like English, don't take her. It's not a class for slackers.
Dr. Galbus is an incredibly bright, insightful, and all around wonderful person. She is consistently fair and works with students to find methods that work for the class. Exceptional teacher!
I'm actually surprised by any negative comments about Dr Galbus. She is a wonderful instructor and a very sweet person! Her midterm and final was hard but only if you didn't do any of the readings. If you skip a lot, DO NOT take this class as the class discussions are key!
Very interesting person, personality wise and teaching wise. A LOT of reading, at least one story assigned per class. Test are difficult and you have to read EVERY story and study to expect a passing grade. But I appreciate that because slackers shouldn't get the same grade as people who try.
She's a hard professor and she demands excellence and high performance. But trust me, it's worth it! I loved this class. A lot of work, but you'll actually learn something. Don't take this class if you want something to just skate through, but if you want to learn its great!
I don't know why anyone would think this class is hard. She practically gave us every test question before the midterm and final. As long as you read the material the class is cake. I'm not an English major. So anyone who says this class is hard, and you're majoring in English, I suggest you reconsider.
I absolutely loved her class. She is so helpful and she uses so many metaphors that make things so much more clear. She is funny and always willing to help you if you have questions. She's an incredibly smart lady and she really taught me alot!
She is a very good teacher when it comes down to a Junior to Senior level. Her grades are all over the place, they are never consent and she doesn't post grades. If you don't do so good on a test, but do really good on in class short essays and extra credit assignments and ask about your grade mid way she bases it off of that one bad test.
Dr. Galbus was my all-time favorite professor for my first semester. She is a thorough teacher, and though it is a difficult class, she is extremely helpful and encouraging. She pushes you to be better than you were. She speaks intelligently and is extremely interesting. I would recommend her to anyone taking ENG 201.
This was a great class! I really enjoy Mrs. Galbus' classes. She is so smart and I gain so much from her classes. Some people don't like her but she is a great professor and always willing to help. She is also really funny!
Dr. Galbus is an incredibly insightful teacher. She is fair to all students who put forth the effort. Exceptional teacher! I loved the way she spoke her mind and allowed you to do the same with no consequences. I loved her class, you just have to be prepared to work.
Dr. Galbus is a wonderful person and is EXTREMELY SMART. I felt like I was getting smarter by listening to her and she makes class fun and interesting but she is a hard grader. She expects you to write your papers like she would which is impossible. I got all As on my papers in high school and thought I was a good writer, but I got Bs from her.
Dr. Galbus is an amazingly resilient woman with a wonderfully large and compassionate heart- and she's incredibly intelligent! I loved just listening to her, because I knew my worldview grew each day just listing to hers. If you need help, she is definitely there for you, but don't just expect it- ask! Changed how I view the world in some ways.
Only two options for this particular semester were to take the class at either 7:30am or 9am. She's very chipper and ready to teach, but classes aren't that interesting.
Dr. Galbus is a tough professor, but she challenges you and makes you think deeper. I didn't like her at first, but as the semester went on I started appreciating how difficult she was. I've probably grown more as an English Teaching major with her class than I have almost any other professor. 10/10 will for sure take again.
Dr. Galbus is definitely not the easiest professor, but you will without a doubt learn something from her. As long as you go to class and do the readings, the class is not ridiculously hard. She doesn't hold students' hands; she actually makes you learn something.
Dr. Galbus is a great professor, and I really enjoyed her 205 class. I was able to get extra feedback on my assignments if I wanted, and she was always willing to take the time to help me out. She will not hold your hand though. You have to read what's assigned, and be ready to participate.
The first time i met Dr. Galbus, i was like "here we go." She is a tough professor, but you can easily get an A by reading, coming to class, and doing the homework. I was one of 3 people in a class of 20 to get an A, and those were my keys to success. ASK for help if needed. She is very intelligent and WILL help you. Do your part, and an A is easy
She's a very nice person and cares about what she does. When I took her Brit-Lit class participation was such a large portion of our grade and this really affected me. If you are not one to enjoy classes that treat you like you are still in high school by a "the students doing the talking" this professor is not for you.
Kiesel is ALL about herself. When she would discuss the readings, she would go off on a tangent about herself. You will know her better than the book. Completely self absorbed. She is a very tough grader, she is solely focused on word count and does not give good feedback about content. At least 3 readings and a 200+ word response due each class
Dr. Galbus Kiesel is a great professor. She is understanding and really wants you to ask questions so you can better understand the material. Be ready to read, she gives little pop quizzes over the material you were supposed to read for homework to make sure you did it. Also be ready to write, lots of papers and writing. Tough but great teacher.
Professor Kiesel assigns a ridiculous amount of work as if her class is the only one the student is taking. At the end of the 7 week course you have to write a 1200 word paper, along with a 4000 word annotated bibliography. Not to mention the papers she assigns are only worth 2-5 points so you either get a 100% or you get a 0.
Dr. Kiesel was an amazing professor. Her feedback on papers was quick, and she wanted us to really develop our writing abilities from those edits. I liked her lectures because it felt more like a conversation than a lecture. Meeting with her regularly outside of class will definitely help with knowing what she expects from papers. Loved her class.
I was afraid of Prof. Kiesel, but she is a caring and talkative person(often controversial topics). She takes participation seriously, and if she notices that most people are not reading or participating, she will have quizzes. We read our whole textbook,so buy it. Read the syllabus and follow the guidelines for papers. we had one quiz and 3 papers.
Dr. Galbus does not provide a clear rubric or instructions for her assignments. Homework is due at class time, so DO NOT pick a morning class time if you can avoid it. There is only 100 points per semester so every point counts. Do not fall behind.
